For the time being, we can rely only on private sector sources for radiation numbers, as our government refuses to provide any meaningful information on the situation.

In the private sector, when people fail to meet the necessary requirements for performing their duties, or by their actions put people in danger, they get fired. When you are employed by the government, you get rewarded with a five month paid vacation and get to return to work.

We have yet to hear reports of looting-related activity in Japan. For the most part, the population seems to be dealing with the crisis in a non-violent manner. But there may be numerous reasons for this.

With an already failing economic recovery in the US, a black swan variable such as the Japanese quake, Tsunami and nuclear crisis may very well be the tipping point that sends the entire world into a financial and economic catastrophe.

The matter essentially rests in the hands of those nations that determine our credit limit, such as China, Russia and Japan. They are fully aware of the inherent problems with US monetary policy, so there is no realization that they need to come to – they simply need to act on that realization, at which point the game is over.
