Elon Musk, the Trump administration’s head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), claimed that he has discovered what could be the “biggest fraud in history.” If this is true, it could be one of the country’s biggest and most damaging frauds, along with COVID-19.

The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) was established by Trump to streamline federal operations and cut $2 trillion from federal spending by 2026. Musk has acknowledged that up to $1 trillion in federal government cuts could be feasible.

A cursory review of Social Security records by Musk’s department has revealed that the social security safety net program is paying benefits to 150-year-olds. The businessman noted that many of those entries listed for Social Security recipients had no identifying information.

“This might be the biggest fraud in history,” Musk stated, according to a report by RT.  

In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, the United States-based billionaire noted that “there are far more ‘eligible’ social security numbers than there are citizens in the USA.” Musk also shared a post by an X user suggesting that 394,943,364 people are currently receiving social security payments. That is more than the total U.S. population, which amounts to 334 million.

“According to the Social Security database, these are the numbers of people in each age bucket with the death field set to false!” Musk wrote. “Maybe Twilight is real, and there are a lot of vampires collecting Social Security,” he added, referencing the popular vampire-themed “Twilight” series.

Musk further claimed that thousands of individuals, some of whom are reportedly over 150 years old, are still listed as alive in the Social Security Administration’s (SSA) records.

DOGE is not a permanent federal executive department of the government. So far, it has implemented significant spending reductions, including the dismantling of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB).

DOGE has also introduced severe restrictions for National Institutes of Health (NIH) grants as part of a broader strategy to boost government efficiency.

On February 11th, Musk took to x to say:

At this point, I am 100% certain that the magnitude of the fraud in federal entitlements (Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, Welfare, Disability, etc) exceeds the combined sum of every private scam you’ve ever heard by FAR. It’s not even close.”

Social security has been a long-running Ponzi scheme that has been collapsing under its own weight for a long time.
