Each man a serf, happiest when he is consumed with iPhones and entertainment, and easily reformed, if he errs, through the punishments of greater taxes and greater scrutiny over his transactions and any possible means of personal advancement, enrichment or entrepreneurship.

Are you familiar with Tax Freedom Day? No, it isn’t the day after April 15th. According to the Tax Foundation, it’s the day of the year when the average American has earned enough money to pay for all the income taxes they will accumulate throughout the rest of the year. In 2016, that day will fall on April 24th. Or put another way, if you work during all 52 weeks of the year, more than 16 weeks of your labor are going to the IRS.
According to the Tax Foundation’s annual report, Americans are going to spend a total of $5 trillion on federal, state, and local taxes this year, which amounts to about 31% of our nation’s income. That’s almost $1 trillion more than we spend on food, clothing, and housing put together.
Tax Freedom Day happens to fall one day earlier this year than it did last year, but when you consider our government’s deficit spending, the day lands on May 10th. It also varies from state to state. Tax Freedom Day falls on May 21st in Connecticut, but arrives as soon as April 5th in Missouri.
Historically speaking we’re paying way more than our parents and grandparents did. A hundred years ago Tax Freedom Day was in late January. While most Americans will complain about how much they’ll have to fork over on April 15th, they largely have no concept of how much they are paying in a historical context. And to think our ancestors revolted against the British Crown when 1-2 percent of their income was taxed.

Taxes today go way beyond the original function they were defined in our constitution. The constitution says “Representatives and direct taxes shall be apportioned among the several States which may be included within this Union, according to their respective numbers.… The Congress shall have Power to lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defense and general Welfare of the United States. …No Tax or Duty shall be laid on Articles exported from any State….” So many believe the sixteen amendment that allows the Congress to levy an income tax without apportioning it among the states or basing it on the United States Census should be illegal and is the start and cause of our tax misery today.
Collectively what law makers have done is leverage constitutional law to mean the individual can be taxed not just for “our share” of the “general Welfare” for the United States but of others who are considered indigent. This has promoted law makers to in act entitlements or basic benefits they consider all people should have whether the system of taxation can support it.
The entitlement system has become a spiral of pass more basic benefits, then raise taxes and repeat the cycle. However lawmaker’s have bankrupted the voters trying to promise more benefits from the system that require tax increases. When tax increases cannot be passed by lawmakers they have gone around their authority and run deficits (to pay for benefits) and have bankrupted America,

Use some common sense when eating past date foods, obviously,
If cans are bulging or if product looks or smells off, ususlly its both if its bad.
Even stuff like granola bars,
Some stuff can be spruced up, like i was eating granola bars with a 2014 expiration, tasted fine but werent crunchy, stuck them in the oven laid out on baking sheets added a drizzle of honey over all of them, made a huge difference, made them crunchy again and a little sweeter,
Stale crackers can be crisped up same way, a spritz of salt water before sticking them in oven helps.

As a people, we really need to start becoming more self sufficient. Canned corn and beans from your garden are still the same price as 50 yr ago, especially if you save ur own seeds.
Cook from scratch if you have to buy from a store. It saves many pennies from ur grocery budget. Also more healthy for you.
Make ur own clothes! They will last longer. Plenty of places to buy fabric. Visit a fabric store in an Amish or Mennonite community.
This month I’m making jellies from violets, dandelions, clover, lilac and peony flowers. All from the back yard!

I did tax returns for a short while with a well-known organization. The EIC (earned income credit) is a little known means of “redistributing wealth” (one of Marx’s planks of establishing communism). One particular gay couple (married?) with 4 children got back over 10,000 dollars thru this scheme. Our pockets were picked to contribute to this “bravo sierra”. And these people think they deserve it!!! Of course there were a multitude of others that knocked down thousands of dollars. Just think what will happen when this “benefit” goes out the window….

I cut back starting this year for two reasons.
#1 Tired of paying taxes to support all the Leaches and Zombies.

I just found out that my Social Security I have to pay in more taxes on my S.S. After paying into the damn thing for 47 years now I have to pay more taxes on it. Oh well I’m getting screwed and not getting a kiss.

Ditto on the SS problem! There is also a additional hit if you get too much income as WAGES after starting SS, they’ll cut your SS payments 30% or more! If you are planning to live off a pension, plan carefully as you will get a tax hit if your pension exceeds a certain amount. I’m not a tax preparer, but I keep up on the law.
Using a generic pension amount ( 250% of poverty level), if you were collecting SS over 50% of it could be taxable. That could drive up tax due over 60%, that could be extra hundreds of dollars due in April that could surprise you if you don’t plan for it. That is just federal. Everyone’s case is different.
If it’s too big of a surprise, there is an installment payment agreement form you can download, fill out, and send with your 1040 to the IRS. They will stretch the payments out pretty far if you wish.
You can also ask Social Security to withhold some of your check for income tax.

So, yes, you can stretch it out pretty far, depending on how much you owe. And it takes months before they actually start the deductions from your checking account. I had a question about my situation last year. I just got a letter this week from them saying that they need a few more months to address the request.
I’m thinking that the minions are slow and perhaps don’t really care. But the ones I’ve talked to on the phone have always been friendly and knowledgeable, and they seem to want to be helpful, especially since I seem a little “slow” on the phone. If things don’t collapse, I’ll eventually get it all paid up.

I also don’t see civilization surviving in any type of metro situation. Are we to devolve into tribal groups and work locally? Certainly this is effective, but we might have to give up Facebook.

I have looked at those sources for painted mountain corn but bought from rockymountaincorn.com (?) It is grown at closer to my altitude, I am about 7500 feet altitude. I got quite a bit, considering my space is limited still. If I get 500-600 kernels perseed, it will be enough for just me. I went all M&Ms with it! Planted a couple of each color. Considered going toward single color, but a lot more phytonutrients in multicolor. Don’t forget nixtamalization.

Rant on! If I were to really say how I felt the, Thought police would be beating down my door, and shooting my animals. I would never violate any Federal, state, or local law, that is my line and I’m sticking to it.
I started receiving social security last year. Now, all my working life, ss was subtracted from my pay after the federal tax was, so taxes have already been paid on that money. When I did my taxes this year, $1000 was subtracted from my refund for taxes on the ss I had received. That money has now been taxed twice. I now have 10% subtracted each month from what little ss I get just to pay next year’s taxes, if we’re still here by then. Before y’all start with where’s my IRA/401K. I used most of my IRA in 2008 just before the crash to buy my house. Lost the rest of it to the crash and never recovered. Like I said once before I have earned a little over 104 grand in my lifetime and have never worked under the table or dealt drugs. Now I live off a VA disability pension which is not much. Who knows how long that will last since the system is flat broke. Many people can just live off of less. I’ve never been one to chase money. Minimalist style. I have protested this system since returning from Vietnam in early ’72. Still of the same mindset.

Thank you for your service. VA pensions are way too small. I’m classified as SC disabled, but not enough to get a stipend, I see the guys at the clinic, that are missing major pieces of their bodies and they get squat per month for it.
I get VA medical only. DOD isn’t broke yet( VA is funded by Defense budget), but most problems are caused by bad administrators and government unions. In my experience the Pacific Northwest and Hawaii are pretty good( my VA enrollment was pretty painless). I understand the east coast is really bad.
One thing I do know, is at least in my part of the country, there is not reason for any vet to starve, be homeless, or not get some help if they want it.
looking at getting a rental income of about 1700 per month with paid for low cost rental housing. Retire to a paid for trailer so I will have low property taxes. I will redo the interior with top of the line finishes but from the outside it will look like a 5K trailer. And Then I will become a democrat and apply for every free program I can. Earning about 20K per year will give me free obama care and seems to be a sweet spot for no income taxes. and I will become a leach…

Yes, we pay a lot in taxes. So much of it goes to the military-industrial complex, mostly driven by good Republicans. The military-industrial complex protects all those corporations overseas, and we are supporting over 700 military bases to protect corporations that are off shoring jobs. Under the cover of the Afghan war, over 60 corporations moved manufacturing to Pakistan, and our good Republicans won’t bring them home. A smaller amount goes to social programs like unemplotment, which is astronomical now due to military protection of removing jobs. Good Democrats vote for all those social programs to protect poor Americans, but never think that people want jobs instead. Too busy helping good Republicans offshore jobs. Good Republicans and good Democrats keep the borders wide open to let in illegals… they come from corruption and don’t know different. Keeps corporations happy with endless push down on wages.
I am a Libertarian by nature… but this country is run by good Republicans and good Democrats. It has already collapsed under the weight… but it will get worse as our resilience disappears. .. also known as savings.

cant do anything about the taxing of paychecks. But you can buy stuff off Craig’s list and yard sales without paying tax again. Online stuff is tax free but you get zapped with shipping sometimes. I say just keep your $ bushcraft the stuff you need. It’s much cooler and you refine your skills save$. Everytime a new tax is imposed I spend less.
I expect to be taxed. I hate to see where it is spent.
The cost of eating out starts to be taxes as the sun light hits the ground in a famers fields because the land is taxed and so is his profits and so is the gas needed to transport the heads of beef to the market.

They got pretty much a third of my paycheck already, and I still owe them $1500. I’m glad I get to pay that much though because all the illegal immigrants and sorry mofo’s that don’t want to work depend on me getting up and being at work at 6:30 every morning. I especially like the fact that we give people from other countries who have never paid a dime of taxes here, free money to open their gas station, liquor store, and motel, so they can swap with their relatives every 7 years so they never have to pay anything back. Hell, maybe next year I can pay more. That would be great!!!!

My wife just called me with the numbers for what we need to shell out this year in taxes. Effectively double what we paid last year. Something in the tax code changed for the worse. It’s common knowledge that the more you work to catch up, the more they are taking. There is no more get-ahead. A horse can only run so long before he collapses.
Amazing that we pay these MF’ers to fu^k us every chance they get. We are all slaves. Too many taxes, too many laws, and way too much government! Yes, the shtf one day.
