CNN and liberal professor push for outright gun ban and mass confiscation “once and for all”

In yet another example of the real liberal gun control agenda, a recently published CNN op-ed has called for “getting rid of guns in this country, once and for all,” by making it a felony to posses any handgun or “assault” rifle.
This latest direct attack on the 2nd Amendment in the mainstream media comes from liberal poet and Middlebury College professor Jay Parini who makes it crystal clear that many on the left aren’t simply pushing for “common sense” reform but rather directly going after all firearm ownership in America.
Using Donald Trump as the starting point, Parini attacks the billionaire Republican presidential candidate for daring to suggest that certain people in schools should be armed in order to help prevent another mass shooting.
The insanity that Donald Trump embodies in his unique dash for the White House became all-too-obvious this past weekend when he suggested that teachers at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon, should have been armed and waiting. He complained that this college was “a gun-free zone.” At a campaign stop in Tennessee, he added: “Let me tell you, if you had a couple teachers with guns in that room, you would have been a hell of a lot better off.”
We can hope this his shoot-from-the-lip nonsense will accomplish two things: Put a stop to this man’s political pretensions and, more importantly, draw attention to the madness of guns in this country.
Like a good liberal Parini wants to force the entire country to rely on government forces to protect them because of course that is only “common sense.”
The article continues on ranting about how bad Trump is and how awful American gun ownership has always been while also getting in a couple of jabs at the Supreme Court because a liberal college professor definitely knows more about the Constitution and what is good for the country than the nations highest court.
Eventually Parini gets to the crux of his and the many who share his views on the lefts agenda which is the confiscation of millions of legally owned firearms under the threat of government attack and subsequent outlawing of all handguns and rifles.
Let me dream for a moment: I would much prefer to live in a country where only hunters who pass appropriately strict tests for mental competence and a knowledge of gun safety can still acquire rifles that are appropriate for hunting. Handguns and assault rifles would be banned, period.
Banned. Period. There you have it folks, CNN letting a hard left authoritarian use their platform to “dream” about disarming America. It gets worse.
So let’s get rid of guns in this country, once and for all, making it a felony to possess a handgun or assault rifle. Over a period of years, illegal guns will gradually disappear. Guns don’t kill people, as they say. People who acquire guns — legally or illegally — do. And we should make it extremely difficult for them to get their hands on these weapons.
As I and many others have reported for years, the liberal gun control agenda is not about any common sense (or whatever other buzzword is being used) reform but rather it is directly about confiscating and then outlawing almost all gun ownership in the country.
This latest open admission of the real agenda of the gun control zealots is simply one more example of the multitude of reasons why any sane supporter of the 2nd Amendment should believe that any gun control legislation drafted in the future is about eventually confiscating and then banning all firearms regardless of what pretty language is used to trick naive supporters.
For example, in the wake of the recent Oregon school shooting, multiple prominent liberal news outlets ran articles promoting the Australian approach to gun control while floating the idea that it should be implemented here.
Of course, those articles failed to mention what that would actually mean for the millions of Americans who own legal firearms considering Australia implemented a mandatory buyback program. (see confiscation)
“Despite the fact that for years gun control groups and anti-gun liberals have claimed that they only want “common sense” gun control, news outlets such as Salon and Slate are once again openly praising Australia’s controversial 1996 gun control law, a law that included a mandatory gun buy back program under the threat of government force.
Make no mistake, when outlets like Salon and Slate call for Australian gun control in America they are calling for gun confiscation under the threat of government coercion and conflict as well as openly admitting that they are willing to risk an all out civil war in order to achieve this agenda.”
You can add CNN and Jay Parini to the list of those willing to risk an all out civil war to push their ideological agenda.

Want to create a gun-free America in 5 easy steps?
Here’s all there is to it:
Step 1: Elect. For a gun-free America, the first thing you’ll need is two-thirds of Congress. So elect a minimum of 67 Senators and 290 Representatives who are on your side.
Step 2: Propose. Then, have them vote to propose an amendment to the Constitution which repeals Second Amendment gun rights for all Americans.
Step 3: Ratify. Then convince the legislators of 38 states to ratify that change.
At this point, the Second Amendment is history, but you’ve done nothing to decrease gun violence. All you’ve done is remove the barrier for Congress to act.
Step 4: Legislate. You need to enact “common sense” reform.
You can try to do what Australia did and…ban all guns? That’s not at all what they did, but whatever, fuck it. Go big or go home, right?
It will have to be passed by Congress and signed by the president.
Great! The law is passed and guns are now illegal. The only thing left to do is…
Step 5: Enforce. Guns won’t just disappear because you passed a law. You need to confiscate some 350 million guns scattered among 330 Million Americans.
Sure, you can try a buy-back program like Australia, but like Australia that will still leave behind anywhere from 60 percent to 80 percent of privately owned firearms.
The rest you have to take.
You’ll need the police, the FBI, the ATF or the National Guard—all known for their nuanced approach to potentially dangerous situations—to go door-to-door, through 3.8 million square miles of this country and take guns, by force, from thousands, if not, millions of well-armed individuals. Many of whom would rather start a civil war than acquiesce.
So inevitably gun violence, which is currently at a historic low, will skyrocket.
But that is how you get a gun-free America in five easy steps.

I have tried the quick draw like Doc, with the Super Blackhawk 44 mag; but with an 8″ barrel it is just not that easy. The results are the same though…..deadly. I keep her loaded with 300 grain hard nose, that i used for Grizzly backup in Montana Wilderness. Blows a big hole right thru 1/4″ steel plate.
Passin I have the 5.5″ barrel SBH and still can’t do it. BTW, have you used buffalo ore ammo? I shot a 259 lb. pig with their 270 grain flat nose and the piggy died before hitting the ground. I heard Garrett also makes good 44 rounds but never tried it.
I shot a 250 lb sow with a Hornady 40gr moly coat .223 and it was dead before it hit the ground, but I hit it right in the eye.

I am not clear on whether The second amendment existed in Tombstone, Arizona at the time of the OK Corral incident.
The town had established an ordinance making possession of certain weapons, including guns, illegal within town limits except for law enforcement officials.
As a U.S. Territory, was Arizona subject to Federal law, specifically Constitutional Law at that time? You make an excellent point and one I have looked at before, but have yet to find an answer.

As far as I know, going off of incomplete information, the Earps may have been acting legally, per city ordinance (unless the U.S. constitution was the law of the land, in which case you’re absolutely right).

Well,…I’m something of an expert on the issue of gun control in the U.S.A.
I generally agree with the above article, though I feel strongly that it is well on the side of the hysterical.
I won’t waste words restating points from the above. Rather, it may be more useful if offer some relevant facts.
First, there are between two, and three hundred million firearms in the hands of Private Citizens. At least about eighty million are believed to be handguns.
The vast majority of those guns are not registered, though handguns acquired since the Brady Act may be traceable to initial purchasers by reconstructing records that by law should have been destroyed.
Before confiscation can take place, universal registration would need to be done. When the Canadians set about trying to register “long Guns”, two informative facts were reported by the Press. First, it cost over $200.00 per gun to registers them, and they estimated a non-compliance rate was up to 30%.
Assuming a vastly much higher registration compliance rate in the U.S., say, only 20% went unregistered, that would leave around fifty million guns which could not later be found for confiscation. If by some miracle, the Government could keep the cost of registration down to $100.00 per gun, registration would still cost around twenty five billion dollars. And that would be before a single gun was confiscated.
If the Government decided to reimburse gun owners, say $200.00 for every gun confiscated, and destroyed, the cost would be something approaching fifty billion dollars more, not including the administrative costs which would be in the billions.
The total cost of getting rid of around 80% of all guns would be eighty to ninety billion dollars. Not exactly a small project.
Also, consider that numbers of American Gun Owners are threating to shoot it out with those who come to take away their guns. The Government would do much to mitigate this sort of thing, using the California model from when the confiscated semi-auto rifles. Still, you would be reading about bloody battles monthly.
As for those who decide not to comply, they would instantly become wanted felons. Imagine five or six, or even ten million newly created felons, subject to arrest, trial and imprisonment. How would you arrest, and prosecute ten million people? Where would you find the jail space to imprison them for ten years. The present cost of keeping someone in prison is between thirty, and fifty thousand dollars per year. How would that be paid for?
My point is, that, though there are some who want, and intend to take all of our guns, the practical aspects of it all has never entered their thinking. This makes it unlikely that a flat out confiscation will, or even could ever happen.
More likely that they would let us keep our guns, and make it illegal for them to be sold, or gifted, or even inherited. That way, as we age, and expire, or guns would be turned in for destruction by our estates. This way it would take fifty, or sixty years for all the guns to go away, but eventfully the Gun Banners would have their way.
