On Tuesday morning my good friend Ed Thomas and I sat down for breakfast at the local IHOP in Killeen, TX about 10 minutes from the entrance gates of the Fort Hood military base. Ed, who is one of the folks behind The Daily Sheeple news web site, is a retired Army veteran who spent nearly two years in the middle of it all while in Baghdad, Iraq. As is generally the case when Ed and I get together, we discussed a whole host of topics, one of which happened to be the 2009 Fort Hood shooting involving Nidal Hasan.
Not being a military man myself, I wasn’t quite clear on the inner workings of Fort Hood, a base at which Ed was stationed for quite some time and grew up around pretty much his whole life. I hit him with a barrage of questions surrounding the 2009 ordeal, and asked him how it was possible that a single lone gunman could kill 13 people and injure over 30 more, especially given that he was on a military base in the middle of Texas, a conceal-carry state.
His answer was simple.
“Fort Hood is a gun free zone, just like our schools.”
There are some 50,000 people stationed on the base at any given time (military and civilian), making Fort Hood essentially a small city packed into about 200,000 acres, which incidentally makes it the largest military base in the world. With that many people in one place, it becomes a numbers game. Eventually someone is going to snap, just like they do in the civilian world. And like many parts of the civilian world, the only people allowed to carry guns on base are personnel operating under the umbrella of the military police – who are the first responders for various incidents at the massive cantonment.
According to Ed, the military police face the same problem on this base as law enforcement officers face in any American city. When an active shooter is on the loose, they’re minutes away, giving the perpetrator vital time to execute his mission.
Wednesday morning I jumped on a plane heading back home. As soon as I landed and turned my phone back on, I had several texts from Ed.
“You’re not gonna’ believe this,” read one of them, “we were just talking about this YESTERDAY.”
“Active shooter on base. No real information at this time. Whole city is on lock-down.”
The incident is now becoming much more clear. What we know is that four people are dead and many others injured. The shooter was a non-combat service member. Perhaps the only good news was that the shooter took his own life, potentially preventing many more casualties.
Upon learning of the incident, I immediately thought back to Ed’s comment. Fort Hood is a “gun free zone,” and the incident itself was eerily reminiscent of other recent shootings at gun free zones like the Sandy Hook elementary school and the Century movie theater in Aurora, Colorado.
You rarely hear about mass shootings in places where guns can be legally carried. And often, when a shooter with mass killing on his mind enters one of these facilities, he is put down by a law abiding citizen. One example of this was when an active shooter had executed two parishioners in a parking lot at the New Life Church in Colorado Springs back in 2007. As the shooter entered the building looking for more victims, armed security guard Jeanne Assam drew her personally owned concealed weapon and took him down. The shooter, now injured and unable to move, put the gun to his head and killed himself.
Giving law abiding citizens and trained military members the ability to carry their weapons may not prevent every gun death, but they could certainly limit the number of victims. One person with a gun could have prevented the Aurora theater shooting or the Sandy hook massacre, and saved scores of lives in the process.
In the aftermath of yet another Fort Hood mass shooting, this very argument has become a hot topic of discussion today, especially across the social network sphere, much to the chagrin of those who have, once again, begun calling for a nationwide ban on firearms.
Chet Cannon, a host on MTV, showed his outrage over the incident and echoed the sentiments of many proponents of self defense and personal responsibility via his Twitter feed when he noted, “Trained military in a GunFreeZone rendered helpless, again.”

But not everyone agrees with Chet.
Shannon Watts, the founder of the gun control group “Moms Demand Action” believes that the solution isn’t allowing military service members to carry guns on base, but to disarm them.

Apparently, Ms. Watts is not aware that Fort Hood’s soldiers have already been disarmed.
Those in and around the base immediately lashed out and made the point that there are thousands of soldiers at Fort Hood who have been trained to deal with these kinds of threats, yet they were essentially handcuffed by the restrictions.
CJ Grisham was on base while the incident unfolded and he voiced his frustrations online during the lock-down and shelter-in-place order:
I can’t help but get pissed off when there is an active shooter on a MILITARY BASE and Soldiers are told to “shelter in place.” It’s so antithetical to what we do for a living. The response should be, “find the bastard and mow him down!”
His frustrations boiled down to one simple argument:

We will no doubt hear renewed calls from the anti-gun crowd in coming days and weeks demanding that the President take action to curb gun violence.
The problem is that there are over 300 million guns in America, and perhaps billions more worldwide.
It is simply not possible to put the genie back in the bottle. You can outlaw guns in America today and seize every weapon from law abiding citizens. But that will not solve the problem.
Those who want to do harm to others will find a way. They could, for example, purchase ATF-provided weapons directly from drug cartels operating out of central America. They will happily send their wares into the United States for a profit. In fact, illegal weapons suppliers may well be helping to lobby Congress for gun bans just so they can expand their trade.
Gun bans, as is evident with this most recent Fort Hood shooting, will not work.
Twenty people were killed or wounded in Fort Hood yesterday.
Had just one of those people had a firearm then maybe most or all of those deaths and injuries could have been prevented.
Gun Free Zones should be renamed “kill Zones”…..

Imagine if you will that all law-abiding Americans were required to carry a firearm. People would be more polite and less likely to be dishonest. Violent crime would lessen to a great extent. There are videos of chickens being scalded while obviously still alive and awake. I’ve seen videos that made me sick, cows getting their throats cut while they were still struggling on the hook. It is common knowledge of the videos where minks and other fur-bearing animals were indeed SKINNED ALIVE and their writhing bodies thrown in a pile.
I STILL have nightmares from a video I once saw, where animals were being loaded into an incinerator with a skip loader—the camera zoomed in on one animal, skinless and bloody as it raised it’s head, trying to escape the pile. If that doesn’t sicken you, I don’t know what to say to you.

This is resource management and when done with humane means it keeps many herds from suffering horribly during harsh winters. Going over the limits and leaving nothing for someone else is rotten and why they have bag limits on game. Animals eat other animals. People eat aniamls. Pure torture of any living creature is evil. This is what the dark force, the devil, sadism is about, enjoying inflicting pain and misery on some innocent life.

My opinion is that these crazy shooting events are caused mostly by drugs — Marijuana and anti-depressants. Look at all the shooters and notice that almost all of them were potheads or taking dangerous prescription meds. It will be worse with Obamacare. Now they will be prescribing these drugs to people who previously couldn’t afford them.

I have a very simple solution to this, require all NCO’s to carry sidearms on base. I will agree that not every soldier needs to carry on base. I probably didn’t need to carry a sidearm when I was a 18yo private. My idea of down time back then was drink and chase poonanny. But after I went through scout school and I was trained thoroughly, I should’ve been allowed to carry. The thing is the government can trust me with AT-4’s and M-2 50 cals while riding through hell or sweeping complexes with M-4’s and berettas, but can’t touch them on base.
I’m still trying to get my head around the idea of having to call the police to a military base.

That is totally true about society and different races are like dogs, many of us are not racist but too many people will always join their race, gender to a point just like animals in wild do. I also heard on a radio station that the shooters mother died and the base didnt want to give him leave to attend. Then they changed their tune and gave him 24 hours to go. Saw a headline on Drudge that insurance from businesses will go up $5,000 per employee this year. Didnt read the article and now the headline link is gone. If that happens, my company wont pay so when Im notified and lose my insurance, that’s my tipping point. No benefit, no more work. Ill kiss it goodbye and live out the rest of my life as best as possible like they did in the Depression. So we are in it for this long haul whatever that turns out to be. Ole Cal is tired of being played and screwed so the jig might be up real soon. Wont miss the job and well live on what we have and what we know. Right now, dandelions are greening up and creesy greens are clumped, both good for the vitamins and free for the gathering.

Next up is the cabin. By the time we get that built, there might be no paycheck coming in. Got a spare pasture and got a small barn. The wife wants to get some goats for milk and cheese. They can stiff us for property taxes but all they can do is try to penalize us for not buying Obamacare. But when there aint an income, there aint no 1040. Its blood from the turnip time.

Here’s a tid-bit that I didn’t know…The reason Fort Hood and others are gun free zones are because of Bush senior and it’s not a law…get this…it’s a regulation! Un-freaking-believable! Daddy Bush thought this would be a good idea and it could have been reversed by Clinton and GW (they knew full well the “regulation” but did nothing to stop it. Now those poor folks are realizing the sad reality of others choices by not giving them a choice to defend themselves. I think it is another example of infantilizing our service members….in the same way they can’t shoot the enemies in Afghanastan. The rules of the game are stacked against them.

The intent to disarm people who misused their tools, was to keep them from doing it again, which SOUNDS reasonable, since they’d already screwed up at least once and there was a risk that they might do it again.
But to support the argument of not disarming felons, you’d have to agree that ALL crimes should no longer be held against a person once they’ve paid their debt to society, and their freedom has been restored.
So, murderers, sex offenders and thieves (to name a few) would no longer be seen as murderers, sex offenders and thieves. They’d all have a clean record once they did their time.
To be fair, either we give ALL “criminals” a second chance or none. We can’t pick and choose. So would you be prepared to declare that a child molester should be able to go to work in an elementary school, once he had done his time?
If a man just got out of prison for shooting his entire family, would you be prepared to hand him his gun back? Really?
These are questions we should be asking ourselves.
When people are no longer persecuted for their crimes after they’ve done their time, THEN we might be able to have a meaningful discussion. Until then, we’re all just being hypocrites.

Our P.D. had to guard the US Army reserves/ National Guard ground because the General in charged would not arm the troops. They had around 60 guys there and they couldn’t carry a weapon. Our P.D. had to go to Retired Officers for AR 15’s, Mini 14’s and AK 47’s to arm the Officers to guard the reservation. We had three Officers there at a time. I’m not bragging but I had to show the two guys with me how to operate the AR’s they had. I had to stay over to show the other guys how to operate the AK’s and the Mini’s, they where using. Now I think they can show me how to use them. What a difference 13 years make. Talk about B.S.

WHAT GOOD is it to have soldiers, sailors and airmen on cases, posts, and other locations with no weaponry readily accessible for DEFENSE? Sure the base or post may have a *few* ABGD or Military police on location, but they are typically not even armed either! All of their arms are located in…the ARMORY! Seems to me it would be incredibly EASY to take over any number of bases or forts if all you have to do it take out the armory. SPOF= Single Point Of Failure. This to me is also treasonous as it only exposes our military and assets to extreme risk.
All one has to do is look towards the Ukraine- The Ruskies thought they were going to easily storm some of the posts there, but were repelled by the ARMED on base troops. FYI- Not everyone on a base gets to carry a sidearm or battle rifle, only active security or defense teams, period. This means the number of armed defenses on the base are limited to start with.

I have noted increasing numbers of vets on civvie street are losing their rights to bear arms due to medics saying they are too loopy. Worries me as when shtf these are exactly the types I was hoping to be able to rely on. I lived on a Navy base onetime, years ago, in the senior enlisted barracks. Inhabitants of this esteemed reservation were prohibited from personally possessing firearms. All guns must be checked into the base armory. Anyone violating this “rule” would be summarily prosecuted through Captains mast or “heaven forbid” court martial and have their contraband confiscated. When I reported aboard, I had a gun case in the back of my truck filled with evil guns, disguised as a milling machine. I moved into the barracks and placed it on the bottom of a bunch of my household goods in the corner of my room. I never said a word and no one ever bothered me after God only knows how many room inspections. After three years, I was transferred and the chief that helped me move my stuff to my truck the day I was leaving almost shit a brick when I opened the “milling machine box” and showed him the case of prohibited “evil guns” that I had kept in my room instead of turning them into the armory. I told him the Navy can go fuck themselves, I would NEVER turn over possession of my weapons to anyone, and that included the bureaucrats in the Navy; fuckem. (5 nice high powered rifles, three smaller caliber rifles four shotguns and five handguns) I loaded up my truck and left and never looked back. That was many years ago and I haven’t changed a bit. They can all go fuck themselves. There are a few laws we must all obey but most of the laws are nothing but a bunch of fucking bureaucratic rules. After many years, I’ve come to realize that if everyone simply disobeyed all the rules, the government bureaucrats couldn’t do shit about it.

a couple of months ago we had a real active shooter on the base I work at. A disgruntled army recruiter who was relieved of duty, came back to shoot the person who canned him. He got one shot off, and 2 other personnel in the vicinity pulled out their handguns and shot the agressor. They then duct taped him up and called the MPs. Because they saved the victim’s life and maybe others, they got a mild reprimand for having unauthorized guns in a “gun free” zone.

Durin the convoy ride, a man THREW a 2 year old child into the road.m the drivers had orders to NOT STOP for anything. The young kid requested permission to stop and was denied. He had to run that child over. It was a trap to ambush the trucks. Kid was unfit for duty after that. Sent back for psychiatric care.
My son did a tour in Afghanistan and he doesn’t talk about it, but he witnessed the afghan army being some real pigs. Just says he hates what our govt is putting up with over there. There’s no telling what these kids have witnessed. Never mind the truck drivers are IED targets.

I can’t point my finger on why exactly as we all know this nasty disease crops up periodically in remote outposts of the Dark continent. I think it may be because we were told it has a 21 day incubation period. So does measles and there is a MAJOR who vaccination programme in Guinea (the crucible of this outbreak) going on right now.

Has anyone used olive leaf extract for medicinal purposes? Like collodial silver, or thyme (my fave go to herb) it’s not promoted by the elite. It may not protect us against the Biblical plague that is Ebola, but it does seem to have a place in a preppers medicine cabinet/pantry as it is an alternative to several drugs that may shortly become hard to get hold of like blood pressure meds etc. It’s something that can be produced at home anyways.

I live in a state that allows open carry, but just for opsec do conceal carry. Someone apparently thought I was a threat today because the wind caught my clothing in just the right way to “print the gun” and called the cops to observe me. Absolutely ridiculous. They arrived within 3 minutes. Arrival time when a druggie was outside my apartment firing a weapon? Took them 40 minutes. Shows their priorities. But hey who needs em? That’s the beautiful thing of being armed. Armed people are independent and that scares the crap out of this tyrannical nanny state government.

My little summer project (with a homeschool kid who is showing a real talent for science) is to try and produce our own olive leaf extract. If nothing else these wee new skills projects we set our selves hone our mindsets to be independent, sharpen our ingenuity and train us for the adaptability Selco is always stressing as being crucial.
Distracting ourselves in productive ways from the constant fear meme the elites so desire for us, is never a bad thing to do.
Another fun thing to try is using the microwave to produce your own essential oils. (if you still have a microwave that is!). Google for lots of recipes. Lavender is easy enough for a 6 year old to produce.

Emergency Food and Water Supplies
If an earthquake, hurricane, winter storm or other disaster ever strikes your community, you
might not have access to food, water and electricity for days, or even weeks. By taking a little
time now to store emergency food and water supplies, you can provide for your entire family.This
brochure was developed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Community and Family
Preparedness Programs which provides information to help families prepare for all types of
disasters.
WATER: THE ABSOLUTE NECESSITY
Stocking water reserves and learning how to purify contaminated water should be among your top
priorities in preparing for an emergency. You should store at least a two-week supply of water
for each member of your family. Everyone’s needs will differ, depending upon age, physical
condition, activity, diet and climate. A normally active person needs to drink at least two
quarts of water each day. Hot environments can double that amount. Children, nursing mothers
and ill people will need more. You will need additional water for food preparation and hygiene.
Store a total of at least one gallon per person, per day.
If your supplies begin to run low, remember: Never ration water. Drink the amount you need
today, and try to find more for tomorrow. You can minimize the amount of water your body needs
by reducing activity and staying cool. How to Store Emergency Water Supplies
You can store your water in thoroughly washed plastic, glass, fiberglass or enamel-lined metal
containers. Never use a container that has held toxic substances, because tiny amounts may
remain in the container’s pores. Sound plastic containers, such as soft drink bottles, are best.
You can also purchase food-grade plastic buckets or drums.
Before storing your water, treat it with a preservative, such as chlorine bleach, to prevent the
growth of microorganisms. Use liquid bleach that contains 5.25 percent sodium hypochlorite and
no soap. Some containers warn, “Not For Personal Use.” You can disregard these warnings if the
label states sodium hypochlorite is the only active ingredient and if you use only the small
quantities in these instructions.
Add four drops of bleach per quart of water (or two scant teaspoons per 10 gallons), and stir.
Seal your water containers tightly, label them and store them in a cool, dark place.
Hidden Water Sources in Your Home
If a disaster catches you without a stored supply of clean water, you can use water in your
hot-water tank, in your plumbing and in ice cubes. As a last resort, you can use water in the
reservoir tank of your toilet (not the bowl), but purify it first (described later).Water beds
hold up to 400 gallons, but some water beds contain toxic chemicals that are not fully removed by
many purifiers. If you designate a water bed in your home as an emergency resource, drain it
yearly and refill it with fresh water containing two ounces of bleach per 120 gallons. To use the
water in your pipes, let air into the plumbing by turning on the highest faucet in your house and
draining the water from the lowest one.To use the water in your hot-water tank, be sure the
electricity or gas is off, and open the drain at the bottom of the tank. Start the water flowing
by turning off the water intake valve and turning on a hot-water faucet. Do not turn on the gas
or electricity when the tank is empty. Do you know the location of your incoming water valve?
You’ll need to shut if off to stop contaminated water from entering your home if you hear reports
of broken water or sewage lines.Emergency Outdoor Water Sources
If you need to seek water outside your home, you can use these sources. But purify the water
before drinking it.Rainwater Streams, rivers and other moving bodies of water Ponds and lakes
Natural springs Avoid water with floating material, an odor or dark color. Use saltwater only if
you distill it first (described later). Three Easy Ways to Purify Water
In addition to having a bad odor and taste, contaminated water can contain microorganisms that
cause diseases such as dysentery, cholera, typhoid and hepatitis. You should therefore purify
all water of uncertain purity before using it for drinking, food preparation or hygiene.
There are many ways to purify water. None are perfect. Often the best solution is a combination
of methods. Before purifying, let any suspended particles settle to the bottom, or strain them
through layers of paper towel or clean cloth.
Three easy purification methods are outlined below. These measures will kill microbes but will
not remove other contaminants such as heavy metals, salts, most other chemicals and radioactive
fallout.
Boiling is the safest method of purifying water. Bring water to a rolling boil for 10 minutes,
keeping in mind that some water will evaporate. Let the water cool before drinking. Boiled
water will taste better if you put oxygen back into it by pouring it back and forth between two
containers. This will also improve the taste of stored water.
Chlorination uses liquid chlorine bleach to kill microorganisms. (See page 1 for bleach safety
information.) Add two drops of bleach per quart of water (four drops if the water is cloudy),
stir and let stand for 30 minutes. If the water does not taste and smell of chlorine at that
point, add another dose and let stand another 15 minutes.
If you do not have a dropper, use a spoon and a square-ended strip of paper or thin cloth about
1/4 inch by 2 inches. Put the strip in the spoon with an end hanging down about 1/2 inch below
the scoop of the spoon. Place bleach in the spoon and carefully tip it. Drops the size of those
from a medicine dropper will drip off the end of the strip.
Purification tablets release chlorine or iodine. They are inexpensive and available at most
sporting goods stores and some drugstores. Follow the package directions. Usually one tablet is
enough for one quart of water. Double the dose for cloudy water.
More Rigorous Purification Methods
While the three methods described above will remove only microbes from water, the following two
purification methods will remove other contaminants. Distillation will remove microbes, heavy
metals, salts, most other chemicals, and radioactive dust and dirt, called radioactive fallout.
Filtering will also remove radioactive fallout. (Water itself cannot become radioactive, but it
can be contaminated by radioactive fallout. It is unsafe to drink water that contains
radioactive fallout.)
Distillation involves boiling water and then collecting the vapor that condenses back to water.
The condensed vapor will not include salt and other impurities. To distill, fill a pot halfway
with water. Tie a cup to the handle on the pot’s lid so that the cup will hang right-side-up
when the lid is upside-down (make sure the cup is not dangling into the water) and boil the water
for 20 minutes. The water that drips from the lid into the cup is distilled.
To make a fallout filter, punch holes in the bottom of a large bucket, and put a layer of gravel
in the bucket about 1-1/2 inches high. Cover the gravel with a towel cut in a circle slightly
larger than the bucket. Cover soil with a towel, place the filter over a large container, and
pour contaminated water through. Then, disinfect the filtered water using one of the methods
described above. Change the soil in your filter after every 50 quarts of water.
Family Disaster Supply Kit
It’s 2:00 a.m. and a flash flood forces you to evacuate your home–fast. There’s no time to
gather food from the kitchen, fill bottles with water, grab a first-aid kit from the closet and
snatch a flashlight and a portable radio from the bedroom. You need to have these items packed
and ready in one place before disaster hits.
Pack at least a three-day supply of food and water, and store it in a handy place. Choose foods
that are easy to carry, nutritious and ready-to-eat. In addition, pack these emergency items:
Medical supplies and first aid manual
Hygiene supplies
Portable radio, flashlights and extra batteries
Shovel and other useful tools
Money and matches in a waterproof container
Fire extinguisher
Blanket and extra clothing
Infant and small children’s needs (if appropriate)
FOOD: PREPARING AN EMERGENCY STOCKPILE
If activity is reduced, healthy people can survive on half their usual food intake for an
extended period and without any food for many days. Food, unlike water, may be rationed safely,
except for children and pregnant women.
If your water supply is limited, try to avoid foods that are high in fat and protein, and don’t
stock salty foods, since they will make you thirsty. Try to eat salt-free crackers, whole grain
cereals and canned foods with high liquid content.
You don’t need to go out and buy unfamiliar foods to prepare an emergency food supply. You can
use the canned foods, dry mixes and other staples on your cupboard shelves. In fact, familiar
foods are important. They can lift morale and give a feeling of security in time of stress.
Also, canned foods won’t require cooking, water or special preparation. Following are
recommended short-term and long-term food storage plans.
Storage Tips
Keep food in the driest and coolest spot in the house–a dark area if possible.
Keep food covered at all times.
Open food boxes or cans carefully so that you can close them tightly after each use.
Wrap cookies and crackers in plastic bags, and keep them in tight containers.
Empty opened packages of sugar, dried fruits and nuts into screw-top jars or air-tight cans to
protect them from pests. Inspect all food containers for signs of spoilage before use.
Short-Term Food Supplies
Even though it is unlikely that an emergency would cut off your food supply for two weeks, you
should prepare a supply that will last that long. A two-week supply can relieve a great deal of
inconvenience and uncertainty until services are restored.
The easiest way to develop a two-week stockpile is to increase the amount of basic foods you
normally keep on your shelves. Remember to compensate for the amount you eat from other sources
(such as restaurants) during an average two-week period.
You may already have a two-week supply of food on hand. Keeping it fresh is simple. Just rotate
your supply once or twice a year.
Special Considerations to Keep in Mind
As you stock food, take into account your family’s unique needs and tastes. Try to include foods
that they will enjoy and that are also high in calories and nutrition. Foods that require no
refrigeration, preparation or cooking are best.
Individuals with special diets and allergies will need particular attention, as will babies,
toddlers and the elderly. Nursing mothers may need liquid formula, in case they are unable to
nurse. Canned dietetic foods, juices and soups may be helpful for the ill or elderly.

for your pets.
How to Store Your Short-Term Stockpile
Keep canned foods in a dry place where the temperature is fairly cool–not above 70 degrees
Fahrenheit and not below freezing. To protect boxed foods from pests and extend their shelf
life, store the boxes in tightly closed cans or metal containers.
Rotate your food supply. Use foods before they go bad, and replace them with fresh supplies,
dated with ink or marker. Place new items at the back of the storage area and older ones in
front.
Your emergency food supply should be of the highest quality possible. Inspect your reserves
periodically to make sure there are no broken seals or dented containers.
How to Cook if the Power Goes Out
For emergency cooking you can use a fireplace, or a charcoal grill or camp stove outdoors only.
You can also heat food with candle warmers, chafing dishes and fondue pots. Canned food can be
eaten right out of the can. If you heat it in the can, be sure to open the can and remove the
label first.
Long-Term Food Supplies
In the unlikely event of a military attack or some other national disaster, you may need
long-term emergency food supplies. The best approach is to store large amounts of staples along
with a variety of canned and dried foods.
Bulk quantities of wheat, corn, beans and salt are inexpensive and have nearly unlimited shelf
life. If necessary, you could survive for years on small daily amounts of these staples. Stock
the following amounts per person, per month:
Wheat–20 pounds
Powdered Milk(for babies and infants)*– 20 pounds
Corn–20 pounds
Iodized Salt–1 pound
Soybeans–10 pounds
Vitamin C**–15 grams
* Buy in nitrogen-packed cans
** Rotate every two years
Storage and Preparation of Food Supplies
Store wheat, corn and beans in sealed cans or plastic buckets. Buy powdered milk in
nitrogen-packed cans. And leave salt and vitamin C in their original packages.
If these staples comprise your entire menu, you must eat all of them together to stay healthy.
To avoid serious digestive problems, you’ll need to grind the corn and wheat into flour and cook
them, as well as boil the beans, before eating. Many health food stores sell hand-cranked grain
mills or can tell you where you can get one. Make sure you buy one that can grind corn. If you
are caught without a mill, you can grind your grain by filling a large can with whole grain one
inch deep, holding the can on the ground between your feet and pounding the grain with a pipe.
Nutrition Tips
In a crisis, it will be vital that you maintain your strength. So remember:
Eat at least one well-balanced meal each day.
Drink enough liquid to enable your body to function properly (two quarts a day).
Take in enough calories to enable you to do any necessary work.
Include vitamin, mineral and protein supplements in your stockpile to assure adequate nutrition.
Shelf Life of Foods for Storage
Here are some general guidelines for rotating common emergency foods.
Use within six months:
Powdered milk (boxed)
Dried fruit (in metal container)
Dry, crisp crackers (in metal container)
Potatoes
Use within one year:
Canned condensed meat and vegetable soups
Canned fruits, fruit juices and vegetables
Ready-to-eat cereals and uncooked instant cereals (in metal containers)

Jelly
Hard candy, chocolate bars and canned nuts
May be stored indefinitely (in proper containers and conditions):
Wheat
Vegetable oils
Corn
Baking powder
Soybeans
Instant coffee, tea
Vitamin C and cocoa

Bouillon products
Dry pasta
Powdered milk (in nitrogen-packed cans)
Ways to Supplement Your Long-Term Stockpile
The above staples offer a limited menu, but you can supplement them with commercially packed
air-dried or freeze-dried foods and supermarket goods. Rice, popcorn and varieties of beans are
nutritious and long-lasting. The more supplements you include, the more expensive your stockpile
will be. Following is an easy approach to long-term food storage: uy a supply of the bulk staples
listed above. Build up your everyday stock of canned goods until you have a two-week to one-month
surplus. Rotate it periodically to maintain a supply of common foods that will not require
special preparation, water or cooking. From a sporting or camping equipment store, buy
commercially packaged, freeze-dried or air-dried foods. Although costly, this will be your best
form of stored meat, so buy accordingly. If the Electricity Goes Off… FIRST, use perishable
food and foods from the refrigerator. THEN use the foods from the freezer. To minimize the
number of times you open the freezer door, post a list of freezer contents on it. In a
well-filled, well-insulated freezer, foods will usually still have ice crystals in their centers
(meaning foods are safe to eat) for at least three days. FINALLY, begin to use non-perishable
foods and staples.

Speaking of the possibility of blood pressure meds being hard or impossible to get when TSHTF, there’s a remedy used in Brazil and Cuba using an eggplant. Wash really well to get rid of the pesticides (or grow your own, they might not be available either) and slice. Put in water overnight and then drink. The purple skin has a substance that effectively lowers blood pressure. The water has hardly any taste, just a slight cucumber-like flavor.
Beets, if you drink beet juice a few times a day it will lower your blood pressure.
By beets – do you mean sugar beets or beetroot the red root vegetable we use for textile dye?

I’m in the final stages of completely weaning myself off my HBP meds. You see, my BP has returned to my normal parameters and the meds are actually hurting my heart. Of course the Dr. didn’t agree, but couldn’t argue with the evidence either.
I spent weeks slowly cutting down my doses, by cutting my pills. I took 2 meds. I cut one of the pills in half with a pill cutter for 2 weeks. Then I took 1/2 pill every other day for 2 more weeks. Then I quit taking that one altogether. 2 weeks later I started cutting the second pill in half. Then half every other day. Now I’m almost ready to be free of the meds.
If you just stop taking HBP meds, you can easily have a stroke. Weaning slowly is the only way off of them. I have my own blood pressure cuff at home, so I can monitor myself.
I don’t intend to die of a heart attack, because the govt decided to cut off my meds.
The only way this can be fixed is to get rid of the guns.

Think about this, just for a moment, if there was a person who was armed, there would not be as many bodies to account for as that person would have the ability to take down an active shooter after the first shot was heard.
