Not long ago, I felt compelled to address the idea of self defense as a moral imperative in an article titled “Violence In The Face Of Tyranny Is Often Necessary.” My intention was to perhaps undo some of the propaganda conditioning that Americans have suffered over the decades that has taught them that “all” forms of violent action are “immoral”, including the defense of one’s person, one’s property, and one’s freedom.
The recent uprising at Bundy Ranch in Bunkerville, Nev., confirmed my predictions that many Americans are tired of playing by rules chartered by the establishment and are ready to take measures outside of the boundaries set by the system. The reality is that change will never come without consequence and cost, and when faced with an entrenched tyranny, if the citizenry cannot present the threat of physical consequence to their oppressors, the oppressors have no motivation to relinquish power.
To use the schoolyard analogy yet again, it is a fact of life that the class bully will not leave a victim in peace because he is enthralled with the feeling of power over others. The bully will not stop because he has no incentive. Protesting only encourages him. Using the system as a shield only amuses him. Logic and reason only anger him. Punching the bully in the teeth is the only incentive he will respect. If you show that you can disrupt a tyrant’s abuse of power anytime you wish, if you show that you can hurt him back, only then will he take you seriously.
There is a rather insane notion within modern activist movements that self defense represents an abandonment of higher principle. They argue that to fight is to automatically lose, and to prepare for conflict is “extreme.” I would say that self defense is actually the HIGHEST principle one can value, for without the courage to physically resist tyranny, without the will required to put one’s life at risk to stand against the evils of the world, ALL other principles will be lost. Even Gandhi, the man often idolized by pacifists and “non-violent” activists, recognized this fact:
“Hence also do I advocate training in arms for those who believe in the method of violence. I would rather have India resort to arms in order to defend her honor than that she should in a cowardly manner become or remain a helpless witness to her own dishonor…”
“When violence] is offered in self-defense or for the defense of the defenseless, it is an act of bravery far better than cowardly submission…”
I believe that the idea that self defense is a morally unacceptable option for dissenting groups is an obnoxiously false one, promoted by the establishment itself and sold to easily brainwashed dupes to steer the public away from the only method that could in fact do harm to the elitist power structure. The holier-than-thou attitude of the pacifists is encouraged as the system plays to their exaggerated sense of righteousness. Good people want to remain seen as good people, and even though deep down most of them understand that fighting back against aggression is not wrong, the peer pressure of the sunshine patriots often convinces them to keep their mouths shut, or otherwise they might “hurt the cause.” I say that without self defense and the possibility of action, there is no cause.
As I write this, I am working during a brief trip to Alaska. I was invited by Stewart Rhodes, the head of Oath Keepers, to check out the logistical progress of a project he has launched in an effort to counter the apathy and inability of the American populace today to present a meaningful defense against a host of threats the public faces in these increasingly chaotic times. The very real dangers of economic instability, poverty, civil unrest, open borders, viral pandemic, and Federal corruption are all factors that led to the creation of the Oath Keepers CPT (Community Preparedness Team) program.
The CPT program is a State-by-State program designed to reestablish the concept of localized community preparedness and self defense measures in case of regional or national crisis, including localized security, medical, food and water supply, as well as engineering and communications: everything a neighborhood, a town, a county, or state would need to rebuild in the advent of unexpected (or expected) catastrophe. The CPT mission is to train groups of people within as many communities as possible to a pinnacle of preparedness knowledge, and then send them out to train other citizens in other towns and counties, replicating their knowledge across the nation as they go until eventually every person has the ability to become self reliant and unafraid.
The establishment would have you wait for help in the wake of a disaster, begging a bureaucracy like the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for aid that you may never receive, when you could be helping yourself and your neighbors without any need for Federal involvement. The establishment would also rather have you unorganized and helpless in the event that they choose to overstep their Constitutional mandate and deny you your inborn liberties.
They do not fear traditional protests and cardboard signs, as movements like Occupy Wall Street end up trampled, ineffective, and mostly forgotten. But they do fear citizens with resolve ready to fight to keep their freedoms, as we saw at Bundy Ranch with the outright retreat of the Bureau of Land Management. When in doubt, do exactly what the oligarchs fear.
I have myself joined a CPT group in my home county in Montana, and I have also seen excellent groups in training in Alaska. The people I have met through CPT come from all walks of life, a full spectrum of ages, and various career backgrounds. Many have military experience, from administrative to tactical. Each person brings to the table an impressive array of skill sets, from science and engineering to security to medical and beyond. All of them have been highly intelligent, effective, and unwavering in their principles, not to mention the finest collection of folks I’ve had the pleasure of working with. If America had to start again from scratch, I would suggest starting with the Bill Of Rights, and the kinds of citizens that make up the core of the Oath Keepers CPT.
The only negative responses I have seen in reference to the CPT concept have come from establishment mouthpieces like the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), and from activists with a rabid attachment to pacifism who for some reason feel threatened by the mere idea that other activists might train for the worst case scenario.
In my view, if a goal can be achieved through a purely peaceful redress of grievances, then it should be. However, it is foolish to expect that some evils can be defeated by reasonable speech and refusal of participation alone. In fact, these methods are nothing more than a stop-gap, a delaying tactic in the face of inevitable conflict between those people who desire to control others, and those people who only wish to be left alone.
I find that people who deny this reality tend to be people who have no previous legitimate experience with self defense and preparedness. In the world of non-threatening white-bread activism, they can play at being heroes, patting each other on the back for their poetic speeches and catchy slogans. But as the movement evolves towards real tangible organized defense and proactive preparation, they lose their status as heroes and fall behind the curve. The “intellectual warriors” then have to become true warriors, or otherwise be left in the dusts of history. For some, the change is upsetting, and they tend to take the reprehensible position that NO ONE should be allowed to train effectively for self defense scenarios, lest the movement be labeled as a whole with the dreaded “M word” (Militia). In response to their skewed philosophy I would ask one simple question – If we are doing what is right and what is practical, why should we limit ourselves by catering to the unreasonable fears of others?
I see great hope in the growth of the CPT program and Oath Keepers; perhaps the only hope this country has left. For if we do not organize with our neighbors to protect our communities from all enemies, foreign and domestic, then who will? I also see a welcome alternative to the long failing methodologies of “lone wolf” survivalists, as well as shamelessly recreational protestors.
When people ask me for solutions to the collapse of America, often they are looking for a predetermined top-down magic bullet response. There is no such thing, nor will there ever be. There is no scenario in which we will escape unscathed. There is no cartoon-land happy ending at the finale of this story.
The “solution,” as it were, is ultimately something that many do not want to hear about; namely, hard work, sacrifice and a willingness to put everything on the line for the future. Our only advantage is that we still have some time, and any time is better than no time. What we have left must be used now to the greatest effect possible by organizing together for self reliance and security during collapse.

I don’t get panicky. I sure do get pissed off though. Often times lot of this stuff I read here and other sites, makes me chuckle and shake my head while wonderin’ what’s their angle.
Even thou small town and community groups sound great, Ill testify that they are usually the worse and easiest places to get yourself landed in jail these days.
First of all the politicians don’t care one little bit for you except on election day. They receive only a fraction of their income from you and very little oversight on what gets done with the money they receive. The money doesn’t come from you. It comes from the state and the feds. So that is where their loyalties lay. Most communities would fall apart in weeks without the governmental aid. They just plain cant tax the local people enough to pay the bills.
“An army of one” ain’t an army [unless it’s Yaweh.] Only hope is in groups.
Jericho, even though this was fiction it sure showed what can happen. I sure did like that TV series.
There was another precursor earthquake. This one was near Ascension Island and occurred before the 9.0 Japanese earthquake, 10 days before. There was also another earthquake 4 days ago that happened on the Mid Indain Ridge, the same spot 1 day before the 9.0 mega quake. This is two locations, same exact spots that had precursors before the 2011 super Japan earthquake. This shows that the plates are building again. Not meaning that Japan is due for another one, but it deserves watching. Today’s precursor quake also occurred before the 8.0 peru earthquake in 2007, and a 7.3 in Honduras in 2009. I will go by the same locations on comment# 3196234, as these new quakes show the same locations to be in danger.
Jericho. That is correct for this forum/subject. Even though it was nuclear, it still applies to this line of thought.
It boils down to Community, Neighbors, Friends, Family and in some cases even total strangers. We must come together to live. The lone wolf can and will survive, but to live is to have community, someone to converse with, to interact with, be it good or bad.

Great article Brandon, but try to refrain from using the Bundy Ranch as a symbol of Patriotism or a collective effort against Tyranny in the future. It undermines your credibility. I want you to be credible.
It was neither of those things.
What the Bundy Ranch FIASCO demonstrated is the depth of resentment of the American people against the encroaching totalitarianism of the Federal Government; to the point of Armed Rebellion, by the most ardent Patriots among US whose disdain for Federal Authority in general, (and their own ignorance)led them to ignore the merits of Rancher Bundy’s Case.
NO Constitutional issues were relevant in Rancher Bundy’s case. NONE. No individual real or personal property rights were trampled by the Federal Government in Rancher Bundy’s Case. NONE.
What the Bundy Ranch Fiasco reveals, is the lack of competent leadership in the Liberty Movement. Rhodes as an attorney, and Sheriff Mack as a former Peace Officer, should have recognized the legal realities of Rancher Bundy’s Case. Rancher Bundy’s Case is a simple case of commercial trespass and failure to comply with a legitimate Court Order. Twice.
I will not mention here, how horrified I was that Sheriff Mack would implement a strategy of human shields using women and children to protect these “heroes” from Federal gunfire. That strategy will not win the hearts and minds of the american People. Despicable!
Please, no one should muddy the waters here by pointing to other Cases where rights may have been violated in Nevada, or elsewhere by the Federal Government. Each CASE is different and has its own legal basis and merits.
Rancher Bundy does not have a legal leg to stand on and the Federal Government will bring the hammer down on Bundy after the mid term elections. I have a Franklin that says Rancher Bundy is in custody before Christmas. Any takers?
Leaders of the Liberty Movement should pick and choose their Armed Resistance to the Federal Government wisely. Support of Rancher Bundy is/was a STRATEGIC blunder, as NO American rights or liberties were threatened. Rancher Bundy does NOT have a right or liberty to use Taxpayer Land without payment.
On the other hand, armed Patriots, patrolling OUR Southern Border is legitimate, even to the exchange of gunfire while engaging Invaders. This would be legal, even to downing a Mexican helicopter in American airspace firing upon Americans; if the President and the Congress refuse to enforce American sovereignty, security, and Immigration Law.
The Liberty Movement must base its RESISTANCE to Federal Authority upon the Principles of self determination as enumerated by the US Constitution, and should have legal counsel validate when legitimate American Rights are infringed.

Bundy Ranch was about the US Govt picking winners and losers.Look at all of the industries the US govt subsidizes. Look at the land Bundy was using,what’s that good for ? Nothing unless Reid really had a deal with the Chinese. Why not subsidize cows ? The American consumer will be the winner.

Mr. Bundy stopped paying his tax/fee some twenty years ago. One would have thought that the Feds might have let that go for a year, but by year two, would have been on Mr. Bundy’s case by eighteen years ago. The issue probably would have been settled by now.
Nobody in the press ever asked why the government waited twenty years to make a big deal out of this. something is deeply wrong here, and I have no idea what it is.

johnfornaro: Yes, there was MALFEASANCE in office at BLM with respect to the lapse between the time that Rancher Bundy severed his grazing lease and the point where the initial legal action against Rancher was filed.
Then again after the Court ruled against Rancher Bundy and he ignored a ORDER to vacate the Taxpayer Land. Again the BLM delayed physical action against Rancher Bundy when he failed to vacate Taxpayer Land a second time.
All appropriate government officials should be fired.
Granted, charges, hearings, and judgments take time as the mills of the PTB grind slowly; but this case of Trespass should have been resolved long, long ago. It will be completed after the mid Term elections, I have NO doubt.
While the government did pick winners with respect to the Banks and General Motors, the government DID NOT pick winners and losers in the Bundy Case or in the other Ranching Cases in Nevada I have read where the rancher has won. The legal merits of each Case is different.
Rancher Bundy brought ALL of this and more (to come) upon himself.
Let me point out again that according to the Homestead Law, (sixpack this is for you) the Bundy Homestead (over which there is NO dispute) is 640 acres or one square mile. In dispute is the use by Rancher Bundy of using approximately 300,000 acres or about, 500 square miles of Taxpayer Land with paying his grazing fees for more than 20 years.
500 square miles!!!
This lying, cheating, greedy ranching bastard is going to go to jail for a very long time, if he isn’t killed in the Process. And he deserves whatever he gets!!!
I challenge anyone who supports Rancher Bundy to show me any Constitutional Right, or property right of Rancher Bundy’s that was violated by the Federal Government. 🙂

You must be out of your mind. Bundy owned the property his family has been farming for the last hundred plus years through the simple right of “Adverse Possession”. Look it up before you spout off about how Bundy and his supporters had no right and no credibility in defending themselves!

I once said I had a plan. Its not a plan to save any of you, not directly. It is my personal plan. It is going to make me a lot of money, because I know wars arn’t about tactics. They are about logistics. But I don’t want to save me. I want to enable others to save themselves. I once said I’d go broke buying bullets and rope for others. I meant it.

DO you see now–see why I speak with such urgency? With such vehemence? The hour is later than you think.
A family member of mine recently got very interested in prepping and called me for advice. After answering multitudes of specific questions, I offered this advice. Don’t get so caught up that you sell your house and move into a cave. You can quickly become overwhelmed by all the purchases and planning. I had to learn how to strike a balance in my life so that I could continue to enjoy the life that I have now.
I make a decision every Tuesday. I call it Doomsday Tuesday. If I have extra cash flow, I’ll make a point to bulk up on a few extra items or disaster preps. Some weeks it may be food, other weeks it’s just to fill a hole in my preps, like Iosat pills or maybe some more mylar bags or water filters.
If I don’t have as much disposable income that week I’ll shift gears and see what I can acomplish with work. Those weeks I may print materials like recipes and other resources that could be invaluable, take inventory or clean a rifle. Whatever is needed.
This has been a great way to keep myself prepared while not obsessing over it. There will always be chilling stories in the news. I’ve found that by adopting the Doomsday Tuesday formula for prepping, I have a nice and balanced approach without going broke and not burning out and moving on to another passion. Prepping can be a great hobby and can even isolate you from going through the little day to day hardships that most of us face, having extra provisions is a blessing in itself. It’s important to find a routine in any longterm endeavor that’s worth while.
Mt T. You got that right. Re: the schoolyard bully reminds me of our Government. Going around the world stiring up shit. Due to this we are well over due for several bloody noses. The bad part is the shit stirers will be safe in their bunkes paid for by us Tax payers while the public is left to fend for themselves. Had enough of this BS game?

Before I start, Brandon this is one of the best articles about self-defense I’ve ever read; keep them coming. the schoolyard bully is the perfect analogy. We the people are the underdog and the government is the bully. The only way to stop the bully is knock the SHIT out of him; if that doesn’t work then KILL THE SOB. I speak from experience. I had enough fights in school back in the 60s and 70s to know. EVERYONE HAS THE GOD-GIVEN, NATURAL RIGHT TO SELF-DEFENSE. I DON’T CARE WHAT ANYONE ELSE TELLS YOU. ANYONE TRIES TO HURT YOU, TAKE THE SOB DOWN. NEVER, EVER, SUBMIT TO ANYONE WHO HAS BAD INTENTIONS TOWARD YOU, EVEN IF THAT PERSON WEARS ANY KIND OF UNIFORM. AND IF ANYONE TRIES TO HURT YOU FOR AN ACT OF SELF-DEFENSE, TAKE THAT SOB DOWN ALSO IF NECESSARY. I carry certain self-defense items with me everywhere I go that are probably illegal but I don’t care what anyone’s unconstitutional laws say. I saw a book once called “1001 Uses For A Dead Cat”. In the Spirit of that book, someone needs to write another book “1001 Uses For A Dead Bully.”
Sadly TPTB through many decades and well planning have caused too much polarity, hate and racism in the USA. The meaning of selflessness was replaced by greed and selfishness even among the same classes of the society. People may come together during a natural disaster etc but in a long term everyone gets back to their trained brain washing that was planned through media, classrooms, and various religious sectors. In other words, they made most of us to get away from humanity and God.

95% of all my neighbors within a one/two mile radius would claim they are christian and haven’t “got away from humanity and God”.

We here face the same problem. We trust extremely few people. Not because they arent nice or willing to help but because they are ignorant and uninformed and don’t really want to know whats going on. I often talk to strangers about our government, just to see how many are awake and I’m amazed at how many ARE awake! Not all, but certainly many! at friend’s house last night, watching TV, the news headlines said that only 16% of US citizens trust our govenment… 16%!!! Its true, a lot of old cronnies (and sometimes young people) believe everything the MSM says, but A LOT of people are awake!!!!

Before you start taking CS, look at Google Images of people who have taken it for an extended period.
CS: I’ve been making it and using it for several years.
I took an old wall wort that was rated at 6 volts, cut the plug off and soldered two alligator clips on.
I use a quart Mason jar and a plastic mayonnaise jar lid that I drilled two holes in to tightly fit the 12 gauge silver wires. Bend a loop in each wire and insert one in each hole.
Fill the jar with distilled water and put lid with wires on. Attach alligator clips to wires making sure wires are about an inch or more apart at the bottom.
Plug wall wort into receptacle. The 6 volt transformer will take about two hours to make a batch. Gently shake the jar to mix contents every so often. If the wires start to get full of black crud, unplug and pull wires and clean with green dish scratchy and replace.
I use a simple laser pointer to determine when done to my suiting. Some use a multimeter to test resistance…personal preference…mine is KISS. When the laser beam is solid when shone through the solution, it is done.
Store in a dark colored glass container. Drink a couple good slugs a day (couple oz).
PS…Forgot to mention that you should filter through a coffee in a funnel into your dark glass container

I personally think that Oath keepers is a fine organization and one that I am proud to be a part of. You see, I am former Military and a former LEO. I think that it is great that they constantly work to remind those of us who took the Oath to defend the constitution that we are still bound by that Oath.
I Also agree with Sgt. Dale that we need to build relationships with those around us that are of Like mind. I honestly don’t believe that when it hits the fan, that anyone will be able to make it on their own. You need other people to help with Security and food gathering. I look at people today and imagine if they even contemplate how quickly and how miserable the world will be when TSHTF. Are they ready to walk miles for water, are they ready to walk for days into the woods hunting and foraging until they’re so tired their willing to sleep on the ground were they stand?
What makes us so different that we choose to live in the real world and see it for what it is, and not fall for what has been presented?
In the end many of these people who focus on the world through a straw may be useful, my hope is they throw themselves like fodder on the PTB allow we the living time to prepare and organize for the real fight to come.

Dutch Oven:
Breakfast Muffins
1/2 lb butter, softened 2 c sugar
2 c boiling water 5 tsp baking soda
4 eggs 1 qt buttermilk
5 c flour 6 c rasin bran
Warning: This makes 6 dozen. Can be refrigerated for up to 6
weeks covered.
Combine water and baking soda. Allow to cool slightly. Cream
together butter and sugar. Mix in eggs. Gradually add flour and
buttermilk alternatly. Blend in water mixture. Mix in rasin bran.
Bake in 375 oven for 25-30 min.
Biscuits & Gravy
1/2 lb ground sausage 3 tbs chopped onion
2 tbs flour 2 c hot milk
black pepper to taste
Prepare Homemade Biscurit recipe. Brown sausage and onion
together. Pour off excess grease. Stir in flour. Slowly add milk
while stirring. Cook until thickened. Serve biscuits split with
gravy on top.
Blueberry Muffins
2 c flour 1/2 c Milk
2/3 c sugar 1/2 c melted butter
1 tbs baking powder 3/4 c blueberries
1/2 tsp salt 1/4 c sliced almonds
1/2 tsp nutmeg 1 tbs sugar
2 eggs, beaten
Combine dry ingredients. Save 1 tbs of mixture. Combine eggs,
milk and butter. Add to dry ingredients. Stir until welll
moistened. Toss blueberries with reserved flour mixture. Stir
into batter. Spoon into greased muffin pans. Sprinkle with
almonds and 1 tbs sugar. Bake 15 min at 400
Crustless Quiche
1/4 lb Butter 3 oz Cream cheese
1/2 c Flour 2 c Cottage Cheese
1/2 dz Eggs 1 tsp Baking Powder
1 c Milk 1 tsp Salt
1 lb Monterey Jack Cheese 1 tsp Sugar
Melt butter and add flour. Cook into a light rue. Beat eggs,
milk, 3 cheeses , baking powder, salt and sugar together. Stirr
into rue until well blended. Pour into dutch oven and bake 350
for 45 min.
Chili Rellano Casserole
2 lg cans whole green chillies 1 lb chedder cheese
1 lb Montrey Jack Cheese 1 can (13 oz) evaporated milk
3 tbs flour 4 eggs, seperated
salt & Pepper
Place 1/2 of chillies in bottom of greased casserole dish, cover
with all of chedder cheese. Top with rest of chillies. Cover with
all of jack cheese. Beat egg whites until stiff. Beat yolks with
flour, milk, salt and pepper in large bowl. Fold egg whites into
yolk mixture. Pour over casserole. Bake in 325 dutch oven for 45
minutes or until knife inserted in center comes out clean.

Squirrel Stew
2 squirrels, cleaned, cut 2 c bouillon
into 6 pieces each leafy tops of 2 stalks of celery
1/8 lb salt pork, 1/2″ cubes 2 c fresh lima beans
2 tbs flour 2 lg ripe tomatoes, peeled
1 tsp salt 1 c fresh corn kernels
1/4 tsp pepper 1 tsp worcestershire sauce
2 lg onions, thinly sliced 1-2 tbs flour
Fry salt pork until very crisp, then remove pieces from the pan.
Dredge squirrel in seasoned flour and saut in hor fat until brown
on all sides. When nearly brown, add onions and cook until soft.
Place meat in dutch oven, together with broth and celery tops.
Cover and bake at 350 for 1 hour. Remove celery tops, add lima

Corn Meal Mush
1 qt boiling water 1 c cornmeal
salt
Bring water to boil with salt. Slowly stir in cornmeal. Cook 20
min stirring often.
Hasty Pudding
(Fried Cornmeal Mush)
1 recipe cornmeal mush flour
1 tbs oil
Mold mush and refrigerate overnight. Slice into 1/2″ slices.
Flour lightly and pan fry in small ammount of oil until brown,
about 15 min a side.
Indian Pemmican
2 lb dried beef 1 c rasins
1/2 c yellow rasins Beef suet
Using ablender, mince meat to a fine pulp. Stir in rasins. Chop
just enough to break up rasins. Turn into bowl and mix well. Pour
melted suet over top, using only enough to hold beef and rasins
together. Allow to cool slightly. Turn onto a jelly roll pan and
allow to cool completely. Cut into strips and then into bars
about 1″ wide and 4″ long. Store in ziplock baggs. These bars can
be stored for several months.
