Editor’s Comment: America has become crisis prone. The pressure points have been identified, and provoked. Civil unrest could be triggered on any given day – police killings, or stock market collapse. Maybe something to do with elections.

After the initial 72 hours of confusion and the fog of war, people will be left stranded, hungry, and either ready to turn to government for help or on each other. Holdouts and hoarders are treated as criminals, and shortages on numerous essentials will make everyone desperate. You may need to barter to survival, or learn to store and conceal what you have from intruders, etc. With luck, you won’t be like those in Venezuela or worse.

Which Items Will Disappear First During A Major National Emergency?

    by Michael Snyder

One day in the not too distant future, a major emergency will strike this nation, and that will set off a round of hoarding unlike anything we have ever seen before.  Just think about what happens when a big winter storm or a hurricane is about to hit one of our major cities – inevitably store shelves are stripped bare of bread, milk, snow shovels, etc.  Even though winter storms and hurricanes are just temporary hurdles to overcome, they still cause many people to go into panic mode.  So what is going to happen when we have a real crisis on our hands?

We can get some clues about which items will disappear first during a major national emergency by taking a look at where such a scenario is already playing out.  One recent survey found that over 80 percent of all basic foodstuffs are currently unavailable in Venezuela, and about half the country can no longer provide three meals a day for their families.  Thankfully, some stores still have a few things that they are able to offer, but other key items are completely gone.  The following comes from USA Today

Oh, there are some things to buy. Besides salt, there are fresh vegetables and fruits, dairy products but no milk, some cereal, lots of snacks and a few canned goods.

The only meat is sausages; there are three kinds of cheese. The only problem: A kilogram of each costs more than a fourth of our monthly minimum wage of 15,050 bolivars.

But basic foodstuffs – the things most Venezuelans want to eat  such as corn meal, wheat flour, pasta, rice, milk, eggs, sugar, coffee, chicken, mayonnaise, margarine, cooking oil and beef – are conspicuous by their absence. And there is no toilet paper, no sanitary napkins, no disposable baby diapers, no shampoo, no toothpaste, no hand soap and no deodorant.

Do you have plenty of the items in bold above stored up?

If not, you may want to stock up while you still can.

Venezuela was once the wealthiest nation in all of South America, but now lines for food often begin as early as three in the morning.  Some people have become so desperate that they are actually hunting cats, dogs and pigeons for food, and there are even a few very sick people that have been killing and eating zoo animals.

Someday similar things will happen in the United States and Europe too.

When that day arrives, will you be prepared?

One of the things that got my attention from the article quote above was the lack of milk.  My wife is always telling me that we should store up more dried milk, and I believe that she is right.

Just imagine not having any milk and not being able to get any more.

    What would you do?

Another thing that really stood out to me in the article was the fact that there is a severe shortage of personal hygiene items.  Most people don’t really think of those as “prepper goods”, but the truth is that life will become very uncomfortable without them very rapidly.

What would you do if there was no more toilet paper?

And if you have a little one, how are you going to manage without any diapers?

In general, it is wise to always have an extra supply of just about everything that you use on a daily basis stored away somewhere in your home.  The generation that went through the Great Depression of the 1930s understood this concept very well, but most of us that are younger have had it so good for so long that we don’t even really grasp what a real crisis looks like.

Another thing that we are seeing happen right now in Venezuela is the rise of a barter economy

Many of my urban friends are now planting vegetables in their outdoor spaces – if they have any – or in pots. Another friend, who is a hairdresser, is charging clients food to do their hair. For a shampoo and dry, she charges a kilo of corn meal, saying that she doesn’t have time to stand in line like some of her clients.

As you prepare for what is ahead, you may want to consider stocking up on some items that would specifically be used for bartering in a crisis situation.

For example, you may not drink coffee, but there are millions upon millions of people that do.  In a crisis situation, there will be many that will be extremely desperate to get their hands on some coffee, and so any coffee that you store away now may become a very valuable asset.

We live in a world where one out of every eight people already goes to bed hungry each night, and where one out of every three children is underweight.  As global weather patterns become more extreme, as natural disasters continue to become more frequent and more intense, and as terror and war continue to spread, it is inevitable that the stress on the global food system is going to continue to grow.

Today you can waltz into Wal-Mart and buy giant cartloads of very inexpensive food, but it will not always be that way.

Unfortunately, more than half the country is currently living paycheck to paycheck, and most Americans do not have any emergency food stored up at all.

In addition to food and personal hygiene supplies, here are some other items that are likely to disappear very rapidly during a major national emergency…

    -Flashlights

    -Batteries

    -Generators

    -Propane

    -Can Openers

    -Water Filters

    -Water Containers

    -Anything Related To Self-Defense

    -Axes

    -Knives

    -Sleeping Bags

    -Tents

    -First Aid Kits

    -Matches

    -Candles

    -Firewood

    -Shovels

    -Bottled Water

    -Warm Clothing

    -Lanterns

    -Portable Radios

So in addition to food and personal hygiene items, you may want to do an inventory of the items that I have listed above and see where you may have some holes in your preparation plans.

I understand that there will be some people that will read this article and think that all of us “preppers” are being just a tad ridiculous.

But when a major emergency strikes this nation and you haven’t done anything to prepare, you will dearly wish that you had bothered to take action while there was still time remaining to do so.

                • I use fermented foods too and it kills everything 😛

                  • Hard apple cider does not qualify as a “food”. It is a “drink”. 🙂

                • I have but one thing to say about Colloidal Silver. A great many of you have been taught that “silver kills viruses” and other such things.

Silver is not capable of killing anything that I am aware of, short of perhaps being crushed under a couple tons of it?

For one, a virus is NOT (really) alive until it has a host, THEN it becomes active, to varying degrees depending on the virii.

It is A FACT that this ‘wonderful silver’ will leave “greyish patches” anywhere on your body it wishes to (including ‘shades of grey’ within your brain tissues, and no idea what it may do to the brain.

Also, you can take ANY bacteria or virus, ‘prep it’ (put it on a ‘slide’ and see it through a microscope. Now, take all the silver you can afford and see if you can kill the virus or the bacteria, or mold, fungus, fungii …have a blast. That type of silver is a complete ripoff, has NEVER been proven to kill a damn thing except that it has “potential” to kill YOU, or perhaps leave you with a free “tatoo” of silver (anywhere it wants to).

I’ve a family member with two such ‘stains’. Forehead ‘patch’ and her entire left ear are now ‘greyish something’ …from that damned silver. *And that stuff is the ONLY “holistic” that I dislike, and so will you if you’ll only get a lab scope and check it out for yourself …or just call a hospital lab and ask an expert (and get an earful about “eating silver”).

You must be like,,, a fossil or something!

          • Agent SH. Are you married? You pay every day brother. And have to listen to the bitching. “What do you need that for. How about pick that up and put it away. Where are you going? Can you get me my glasses? Who were you talking on the phone with? I need money for groceries. Are you going to leave your shoes there? Can you pick up some tampons for me? When are we going to get there… Are you gonna make me some coffee too? How come you never take me out. My girlfriend’s husband buys her that, why don’t you? I need money. I want a new car. You bought that for yourself, what do I get?”

Like I said, all of that BS for some sex? You pay big time.

            • Howdydoody WWTI.

              Not married fella.

Are you proposing or something!!! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

              • AG.. Yep married twice.. First one was pretty good, but then she didn’t want to move to Florida which was the reason in the first place we got married because she needed a bigger commitment to move to FL. We parted as friends. Divorce cost= $250.00

2nd one was a fun time, kinda like my best friend, then she turned in the horror show, greedy and insane. I ran and never looked back after that one. Been single and happy since.

I did have a few other nice relationships, but in the end, did not want to listen to the daily BS. You know everybody’s after me at work, blah blah, and all the quotes I listed above.

Is there any woman out there who is normal with integrity? So now I just date weekend wives, come in for a few days for some fun action, then they are gone before the bitching starts. Cause they all do eventually.

                ~WWTI…

              • AG, I forgot to add the 2nd divorce cost me $13K and I was only married 13 months. So after giving half my shit away twice, do the math. So $1K month, I figured I would have a lot of extra fun for $1K per month staying single, and since then, I surely have. Went on about 15 week long Snow ski trip out west, Scuba in Maui, Mexico 3 times scuba diving, 29 Ft Boat for 6 years, and now living in peace in my fully paid for BOL, kayaking from my property and trail biking. And no body bitching. That’s worth a lot right there, just the peace and quiet out in nature. Lots of men out there are cowards to split or leave. Most are lazy, cause they don’t know how to cook or do laundry, so they stay up all night drinking, typing, wishing the life they will never see and many not even getting layed either. Maybe once a month if you are lucky.

So being really self sufficient and a prepper single is truly called freedom. I come and go as I please, drink and smoke a cigar if I want to, and can mail order chicks off the Internet dating site buffet menu, if I want, or not. btw. I don’t date hookers period, its mutual free loving and fun get togethers with lots of single women looking for the same thing.

~WWTI… btw/ I had asked a hair dresser one time, “What percentage of women do you know, that cheat on their spouses?” Without hesitation she said “75% do.” So not only do 75% of you married dudes have to listen to all that bitchin, you are also getting cheated on too. Who’s the sucker? She’s getting layed, but you are not. bwhahahahahahaaaa

            • “Gimme. Take me. Buy me. Please me.”

Hulk Hogan recently divorced (before his lawsuit against Gawker). He was worth $3 million, including his house.

His wife was awarded half, $1.5 million for ten years of marriage, or $150k a year. Charlie Sheen spends $50k a year to get laid (and HIV).

It’s a cost benefit analysis, but these days a Prenuptial Contract is a must if you have any cash, assets, or PREPS !!! 🙂

              • Durango, You forgot to add, that after Hulk Hogans divorce he got caught screwing his best friends wife Bubba the love sponge radio jock. The Gawker who released Hulks sex tape lost the law suite, for approx. $110 Million lawsuit. SO Hogan got to screw his best friends wife and got $110 Million for doing it. That’s some serious fucking for pay.

~WWTI… I bet his ex wife is pissed about that. lol He now gets $110 Million, and she got $1.5 Million.

            • Sounds like you’re married to the wrong woman. Get out now while you still can. Imagine what she’ll be like once the apocalypse sets in. Good luck, brother!

~WWTI… Besides food, Libations, sex drugs and rock n roll will be in heavy demand. Party on..

              • FOOD GRADE Diatomaceous earth mixed with a moist food (like oatmeal) works great to deworm dogs and cats.

Many farmers I know believe Diatomaceous earth may be dangerous to their horses and other livestock if they inhale the dust.

So, they use other natural methods (such as the recipe below) with their livestock – horses, cows and goats.

*Most of these items you can grow yourself.

                Homemade Worming Recipe for Horses
                Use a mixture of…
                40% sunflower and pumpkin seeds
30% tobacco leaves (or loose pipe tobacco from the store)
the rest parsley flakes and garlic.

Fill up a gallon ice cream bucket and you can worm over 20 horses with it.

According to research, intestinal worms release from the stomach and intestinal lining during the full moon to breed. The rough texture of the mixture scrapes the worms away and right out of the horses.

It is much cheaper than conventional worming. Also, the horse manure (garden fertilizer) is NOT contaminated by the chemicals in the tube wormer. Horse manure tainted with worming medication is also tainted and will kill the good worms in the soil once the manure is on the ground.

Ivermectin products in the manure will continue to kill beneficial stuff in your soil for 28 days post worming. Daily feed through wormer like strongid will eventually sterilize your whole place. Panacure or safeguard does the least damage to your soil.

                • Horses eat 50 pounds of food a day. Then there are Vet bills up the kazoo. Horses are expensive to maintain, therefore they are expendable in SHTF.

Sell the horses, buy electric bicycles instead for transportation. You can buy the top of the line ebike for $1,000 on Alibaba AND ship only ONE here for that price. Its a no-brainer. 🙂

                  • But an electric bike can’t plow a field or pull a wagon ect.
Horses are a great tool if you still have the right equipment and horse for the job.
Just my two cents. I know too many people that still log and farm with horses here.

                    • MommaD,

There are many people in the rural areas here that this log and farm with horses here.

The Amish and Mennonite communities continue to live this way.

                  • We’ll stick with the horses. They don’t need sunlight and mostly run on grass and water. (Not to mention they can go all day on a single charge over terrain that you could not CARRY an electric bike across or through (like, a river for example) …or just climbing a muddy driveway.

Hmm, we must be a tad further out in the country that you. An electric bike would not be an asset out here (not for riding anyway).

                • Nicotine is so toxic that is used as an active ingredient in commercial insecticides. A relatively small quantity can kill a human being.

So how much of this mixture should be fed to an animal of what weight over what period of time? Seems like a lot of risk unless quite a bit more info is known.

                  • For what it may be worth to those with animals (dogs) that have worms:

In Maine, they’ll take a ‘pinch’ of menthol cigarette tobacco and mix it up with a hunk of raw (but ‘good’) hamburger. One ‘dose’ per day for one or two days usually kills worms (but not ‘fluke’ type worms…)

        • Buy a dehydrator and Zip Lock Vacuum Sealer. Get busy. Rechargeable batteries of every size and two chargers. Get battery powered lanterns. Forget the propane and generator unless you have LOTS of money for redundant systems and room for storage. The tanks do stack well and HD has a 4,000 watt lp generator for $600.

Go solar, the fuel is free and you can have a similar energy system for the same bucks up front. The prices have dropped tremendously.

Wind Energy Systems has a 4 100 watt panel system for less than $1000, without the batteries, which you must provide. Their poly panels are manufactured in India. Renergy System is twice the price but uses Kyocera panels, the industry standard.

Trojan batteries are the six volt industry standard but a firm in Tempe Arizona will build a custom Li Phosphate battery for $500 bucks or more depending upon the capacity you want. You can discharge Li batteries by 80% without damaging them.

Self defense? Add chinese throwing stars if legal in your state, cross bow, and SUPPRESSORS to your armory. 🙂

          • We bought a SamSung propane (actually, it’ll use whatever fuel you wish just by changing out some parts), stove, oven, warming oven, and the stovetop has five ‘flames’ (one in the center is like a rectangle, good for many things.

The entire stove is stainless, and is a “prepper’s dream” in that it will perform lots of needful things, such as “drying out anything” (meats mostly) (DeHydrator Mode is very fast …amazing).

It has some sort of ‘zip lock vacuum sealer’ built into it. Regular or convection oven (the latter is awesomely fast).

Throwing ‘stars’ are “the cat’s meow” to me. I love my knives, but I’d die if I lost a star. Whether you get the small or the large (for playing frisbee at the beach), you can quickly get very accurate (and deadly). (Start with 8-inch, and when you catch on grind out some 3-inch for even better accuracy (and silence). I don’t mind cross-bows (other than the “WHANG” some make, yet I do LOVE compound-bows (3-wheelers work best for me, like “Bear”). Otherwise, I use silencers to take meat (just so as to not cause any attention getting).

      2. 101 reasons to have some supplies put back in advance,
Stay out of the frey, your life may depend on it

        • In experimenting with various types of lighting at my BOL for the last 18 months. I would say, 12-Volt Solar Power converted to 110 power and using low wattage LED lighting is by far the best for creating light in darkness.

~Anything open flame could also catch other things on fire and you will need fresh air to keep good circulation going.
~Candles, burn fast within a few days, gives off carbon and costly.
~Oil Lamps, Gives off toxic smell and carbon, costly.
~Flashlights, Good for mobile lighting, head lamps work great too for hands free. Batteries are costly, but you can also use rechargeable batteries using a solar charger.
~Christmas Tree string lighting, pretty good for room lighting, and low energy usage for tents or cottages.

Anything appliance or lighting you can use with electric power from solar generation is the best. Renewable and cheap. I run my entire BOL off of Solar electric, and have not had to pay any electric bill for 18 months. ROI-(return on investment) about 4 years. I did use my back up generator last week for a few hours to recharge up the battery bank, when we had cloudy days for like 3 days in a row. That was the first time I had to do that since last November. I used up a few gallons of gas over a few days, but I needed to keep the batteries charged, to keep my small fridge running off the 110 power inverter. So Solar is the best energy source out there by far, and its quiet and efficient. I live in the sunshine state of FL.. This may not work for you up in the tundra dark days areas.

          ~WWTI…

          • Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the local government will legally be able to take all of that from you, and if you resist they will have the right to kill you, as an example. All very legal of course. Solar panels and electric light in your home will be putting a giant target on your back, and will ensure that you will be among the first to die after tshtf because you mistakenly believe that you will still have the right to keep your own stuff. You say you’ll fight them? Okay, better stock up on shoulder fired missiles to defeat the local police armored vehicle, and then to fight the National Guard attack chopper after you have killed some cops. If you beat that the next thing would probably be a National Guard tank, and if you beat that be prepared for a smart bomb dropped on you, etc, etc, etc.
In other words, you can’t possibly win.

            • Old poop you talk like you are stoned. You OK fella? lol

              ~WWTI…

            • Well from old fella to another: I”ll take that bet, you’re gonna regret, cuz I’m the best that’s every been!

*In a post SHTF scenario (anywhere), you do NOT want interior light escaping your house as it’s a give-a-way and you’ll get “hit” hard.

If you’ve nothing else, black paint on your windows stops light (if it’s thick enough, or sprayed with “mirror glass” finish (you can see out, nobody can see in (day or night).

As for the Helicopter hovering over my house. Hell yes I have something that can bring her down and at nearly the same time we could “flip” their patty-wagon over on it’s top (or just destroyed what’s under the hood …end of problem). Now we are down to just men with guns. Hope they’re wearing fireproofed materials and are carrying air.

I’ve been here, done that. It ain’t no game, and I’m not dealing with any of it other than extremely seriously and most deadly. Yeah, they may get me in the end …but not as easily as many would like to believe.

Lastly, “they” won’t have nearly that kind of manpower and should they attack “we the people” in such a way as that …they’ll be choppers and HUM_VEEs burning everywhere you look. It seems to me that the majority of LEOs aren’t going to attack Americans. They’ll stay home and protect their own or die.

This is going to be a war of a “far different color.” (With spatterings of red all over the place).

          • Ya I run everything at the cabin on solar too. I actually have a fair excess of power. I was thinking of getting a small electric water heater and connecting the element to solar panels for free hot water. But my small on demand propane unit works great and uses extremely little propane. If need be I can convert a 55 gallon drum into a solar water heater. I have been running the same 100lb. propane tank since 2012 lol.

            • Yep G. propane is amazing & cheap and goes for a long time. I only use one 15-20lb tank about every 5 months. That’s making coffee and cooking daily and heating water up for dishes. Last Winter I used about 1 tank a month to heat up the place to take the chill off. Still $18 a month for propane heat is cheap. I have 6 filled Tanks on hand or about 2 years of propane. Good deal. Some off gridders use propane fridges.. My solar works great for keeping the fridge running cold. Put the beers on the back of the fridge wall and they are almost icey. Perfect for the Florida summer heat.

              ~WWTI…

      3. that’s why i have dogs…

      4. A MUST HAVE – get a few good survival books and the farmers almanac.

i’ve the entire series of us military manuals, a 1000 books. backed up on 3 thumb drives wrapped in tin foil, locked away in a steel safe.

        why?

it will give you hope, and teach you how to survive any where in the world.

        knowledge is your savior.

        • Long term stored data warning.

Data stored on a thumb drive has a limited shelf life, after a few years it can degrade or even be lost. They need to be plugged in and refreshed periodically. Assume 5 to 7 years max.

Worse yet are DVD’s you burn on a home computer. They are good for just a few years, but can become totally unreadable. These disks use a gelled dye that is etched by a laser when you write data. I used disks like this to create a drive image of my computer, I verified the image after successfully writing the files. Five years later when Windows 10 was pushed onto my computer but the update failed and left the system damaged and unable to boot. I pulled out my trusty backup DVDs and they were useless! No amount of cleaning retry attempts worked. One tip when making DVDs, tell the computer to burn them at the lowest available write speed. It etched the dye layer more deeply. DVDs are sensitive to storage conditions, mine were kept in an air conditioned room in a cabinet away from light sources. At even temperatures and 50% humidity.

Old fashioned write once CD’s turn out to be the most reliable. These use an aluminum surface that is etched by a laser during the write process. These can last decades if stored away from heat. Again choose the slowest available write speed when saving data to get the deepest cut by the laser.

An excellent data storage device is an old fashioned hard drive. You can often take a hard drive from an old laptop, buy a case with interface for it on Amazon that will provide a USB connection making it into an external backup device. Data on these is expected to be reliable for 10 to 15 years. If refreshed periodically it can last longer. These drives wear our when left on, so plug it in back up your files, then disconnect it and put it into a safe place.

          • PTPO. Can you provide a legitimate link to what your claims are? I don’t believe it. The only degradation of data I have seen was on track 2 VHS tapes, that will loose their magnetic qualities or music cassette tapes. Or thermal printing paper like sales receipts or Fax paper, that you will need years later in a audit, and all the thermal impression print will evaporate due to heat exposure. I have many times on sales receipts, circled the amount total on a receipt and rewrite the total in pen ink. You will need those receipts in an IRS audit. Backups to backups.

I do back up my Computer files on several USB thumb drives and keep them stored in waterproof old photo film containers with the snap top. Then lock them away in several safes and hidden crevices of furniture. Even there is a flood, they are still good.

            ~WWTI…

            • I can backup PlanTwice-PrepOnce on that much. Over the years I’ve tried everything for data storage (then trying to destroy it …it’s what I was paid to do for a few years).

Indeed, the very best “burns” are on Aluminum CDs burned at 4x or even 2x if you can turn that slow, and then store them in darkness (not too dry or damp …but at 50% or so).

Thumb drives, DVD, music CD/DVDs and the like will “go and go” then suddenly NOT go nor do anything. The damn drive won’t read the boot track and that’s all she wrote. The reasons for all these screwups are “over my head” yet I cannot deny it as I’ve got about 5000 DVDs that I’ve made myself, and some won’t work after playing them ONE PHREAKING TIME! Plays perfect. Go to replay and it’s dae’id. (And never left the trey)!

Even Memorex will admit that ALL forms of Data Storage are “iffy” at best …and with the newer HDD’s slated to be electronic chips, you can be looking for even less dependability (imho).

          • Best to use a plug in hard drive, a couple 3TB drives backed up to eachother should do

          • They make a archival quality DVD’s that has a layer of gold film that reduces damage to the dye layer. According to the manufacture “In proper environmental conditions, these discs are designed to last as long as 100 years.”

            • Newer solid state drives use a large array of the same chips as Thumb drives use. Stored memory is a function of a static charge deposited on incredibly tiny spots in the chips. These charges will dissipate with time.

Solid state drives and thumb drives have internal software that refreshes the stored data. But unplugged sitting in a safe they have limited dada storage life. They work well for long term storage if plugged in regularly so they can refresh.

Old design magnetic disc hard drives are much better for long term reliable data storage.

            • So are books, so we’ve got quite the library (and not nearly as much invested as we would have needed to expend to get electronics to do the same).

            • LS,
Thank you, I was not aware they made Archival grade DVD-R’s. I see them on Amazon when I search on “Archival grade DVD-R”. Quite pricey, but good for valuable libraries of data that could vanish from the Web if say Hillary gets elected, priceless!

Thanks for capping the thread with a solid answer.

          • i’ve hard drives from 1998 when at trade school, diskettes, and cd’s that work still 17 years later just fine.

if worried, make 3 copies on 3 different platforms if you are worried it will be corrupted.

            • Yeah, I have music CD’s 20 years old and work fine. I think he is full of BS.. Still waiting for the legitimate link to be posted to back up his BS. crickets….

              ~WWTI…

          • The CDR’s do not like salt-air, so if you live near the ocean, make sure to keep them in an air-tight container.

          • This hard drive trick I’ve done for years, only I use laptop HDDs. They’re smaller, and 1TB is pretty cheap now. I also have a wallet full of SD cards. Did you know you can put about 90 full length movies on one 32GB SD card? I haven’t taken the time to count lately, but at least 160 full audio albums fit on one of those, or about a thousand singles. I also have some for graphics, copies of software I like to keep, and my family photos and scanned documents. You can also put about 5 complete DVD movies on one SD card. I keep each in it’s own folder and play them with VLC Media player.

            • OK, my long term storage Verbatum DVD’s arrived that I ordered from Amazon. They weren’t cheap, but?

              Ok a 5 pack was $13 or $2.60 a disk.

A pack of 50 was $80 or $1.60 a disk. This is what I bought.

I have two computers to make restore disks for, plus a few CD’s of data, so I got the 50 pack. Compare this with a 100 pack of standard DVD’r discs I had bought for $20.00 or $0.20 a disk, but they failed to last even four years? It took me a week to rebuild that computer, and darn good thing I had also used an external hard drive to save personal data on, which saved my butt.

It took 16 DVD disks last time to create a full drive image, probably more now with Win 10. That’s $25 to $30.00 worth of discs? Bastards.

I’ll likely reformat my external drive and create a half dozen partitions, so I can save multiple drive images, plus user file backups. That external drive came with special software for backing up a computer. Yeah, I couldn’t boot from it, and the PC could not recover from the backups the software made. In a word it was a paper weight. I had also made separate backups of user files, so they could be restored after I reinstalled the operating system and all programs, and installed all updates………… Two weeks later, or how I spent my summer vacation!

              God I hate computers.

Now the PC is fully restored and upgraded to Win 10, beware there are lots of back doors, if you want to keep Microsoft from having access to everything on your computer. Too much to mention here, but search on “securing Win 10” if you own it. It’s full of back doors and outright spy applications from Microsoft.

I like CNet as a PC news source, so I’d typically Google “CNet securing Windows 10” for information! You also need to secure “Microsoft OneDrive”. Which is where Microsoft copies everything you do on your PC to their cloud. Once copied to their Cloud they own it…… And Windows 10, has a key logger so everything you type including passwords, they own unless you secure your PC. God what a snake pit!

      6. Hey MAC: Can you please advise me on why when I just tried Twice to do what You asked me to do, IE: You asked me to write only a Portion of other website article, and Then to Include a live LINK for others that wish to Read entire wrticle etc.

Well Okay I did exactly as you asked I do. Twice just few moments ago, I posted a Reply in the prior article of Russias 15 day miitary exercises etc, and Then I tried to do a New Seperate reply With/containing three article Links to it…And Both attempts to Submit the Links reply, disapperaed into thin air oblivion!

I never prior had this problem to submit any Links Mac. All previous times I posted a live Link to an article I instantly after submitting the reply could See it at SHTF site with the usual header message of “Its waiting in Moderation should get posted up in one to two hrs etc etc..”

      7. Down here in southeastern Louisiana there is already a shortage of these items. Our group is collecting essential water, food, and supplies to help flooded families in the Baton Rouge a
rea. The floods caught many off guard. Many had hardly any warning as the water rose faster than expected. Hard to take much when you have less than 20 minutes to get out.

Preppers are way ahead of the game but if you have to leave your BOL and supplies on short notice you will still be beholden to those who can help. Hopefully folks will be kind and generous when we are most vulnerable and in need.

Thanks to all here for your thoughts and prayers. We are a hardy bunch down here but….

        Louisiana Eagle drying out.

        • It’s pretty bad down there, hope you and your town is doing alright.

        • Laeagle:

Good luck and best wishes to all who are flooded out. We could use some of that water here in the Desert.

More reason to be sure to protect food and preps from water and moisture.

          I hope you didn’t lose a lot.

          ___

          • Search the cajun navy,1000’s of boats privately owned out helping folks in flooded areas, give one hope for this country, tis the citizens, not the govt.,on the ball there.Bless them craw fish eating patriots and hope things get better soon for those folks.

            • Thanks everyone.

The Cajun Navy was the way it use to be. During Katrina TPTB declared martial law making it difficult for neighbors to help neighbors. It warms the heart to see private citizens helping each other out. That is how it should be, and that is the American way!

I wish it was possible to send the water your way, B from CA!

              Louisiana Eagle

        • The Chick friend I know in Louisiana, said a lot of people were logging on to Facebook to get updates. Probably the best feedback from those affected. One of the biggest helpers are called the “Louisiana Navy” Private boat and airboat owners transporting food and water and well as helping people evacuate flooded areas.

It comes down to the American Spirit. I have not heard a single thing about the Feds doing anything or helping what so ever. 40,000 homes were affected and about 75,000 people have applied for financial assistance. Lets see how that goes.

~WWTI… Many are already beginning to rebuild. Good Luck everyone.

          • TPTB of Louisiana asked Obama to “hold off” until the 2nd week, so that they would not have to take LEOs “off their jobs” to provide presidential security, so Obama is waiting until Tuesday to tour the damages.

Obama, this time, is actually doing what the people asked of him …how incredible! Mayhaps they’ll toss his ass into one of those big ole crawdad kettles to help feed all those hungry kiddos?

      8. Add sturdy shoes and boots to that list. You may be walking some distances and working outdoors.

Visit a thrift shop and pick up a few pair, you can get good quality for under ten dollars a pair. Thick socks, too.

        • combat boots new can be had for 20 to 40 bucks on bookoo if you live near a military base….it’s a treasure trove of good clothing to stay warm, dry, bulletproof…cheaper than surplus stores, by a LOT….might be a good article, mac….i buy/sell, so am willing to offer advice, even to write something up for comment section or….

      9. I’ve done some tweaking of certain supplies recently with an eye toward bartering. While a 16 pack of batteries is cheaper per unit, there is no way to know how much a ‘loose’ battery has been used. Thus an sealed 4 pack would have more value than 4 loose batteries. A 12 ounce can of coffee is easier to trade than a 38 ounce can. If supplies get tight you can expect what happens now with drugs, and what has happened in the past with staples like flour – the street version gets cut with filler. So while a tampon is a tampon, anything that can be used or diluted will have more value as a smaller sized unopened package. A similar thought to the gold versus silver argument – who could afford a gold bar versus who could afford a silver dime?

        • read selco’s shtfschool….they’ll KILL for that stuff….you won’t be ABLE to go outside.

      10. Some parts of these stories make me smile. OMG NO MORE DISPOSABLE DIAPERS WTF will we do besides stopping the making of more waste. No soap OMG NO!!!! NO MORE TOOTHPASTE OMG WHAT WILL WE DO!!!! Yes please you must go out and buy manufactured items or you will not survive. If you have no clue how to produce for yourself…. your not prepared anyway. Supplies run out. Skills and knowledge do not ( Disclaimer: Unless you have very bad memory loss )

        • Everyone should have plenty of CLOTH diapers as a backup, even if they don’t have kids. They make good wound dressings, filters and cleaning rags…or Molotov cocktails…

          • Exactly what I thought too six,
Cloth diapers and rubber pants worked just fine on my kids.
Everyone should learn to make soap, it’s just so easy to do . Baking soda for toothpaste, ect.
Skills are needed, learn while we have time now folks.
            Take care all!

      11. Hydroponics with fish can be done inside or outside. Worth looking into especially if you live in an apartment or little suburban home.

Drought proof once established. Places like Vegas or Southern California must consider water scarcity for future gardens.

        __

        • “Hydroponics with fish can be done inside or outside.”
          especially right NOW!…….ummm,….bad joke i guess….never mind….don’t laugh.

          • seriously though…in loisiana you can raise them INSIDE the house, and you wouldn’t even have to buy tanks for them…..oh, hell,….never mind

                • 3 Women in Mexico

Three women go down to Mexico one night to celebrate college graduation, get drunk, and wake up in jail, only to find that they are to be executed in the morning, though none of them can remember what they did the night before.

The first one, a redhead, is strapped in the electric chair and is asked if she has any last words. She says, “I just graduated from Trinity Bible College and believe in the almighty power of God to intervene on the behalf of the innocent.”

They throw the switch and nothing happens. They all immediately fall to the floor on their knees, beg for forgiveness, and release her.

The second one, a brunette, is strapped in and gives her last words. “I just graduated from the Harvard School of Law and I believe in the power of justice to intervene on the part of the innocent.”

They throw the switch and again, nothing happens. Again they all immediately fall to their knees, beg for forgiveness and release her.

The last one (you knew it), a blonde, is strapped in and says, “Well, I’m from the University of Kentucky and just graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering, and I’ll tell ya right now, ya’ll ain’t gonna electrocute nobody if you don’t plug this thing in.

                  • you’re going to hell for bashing blondes!….but we will be laughing in the meantime……..

                    • I AM A BLONDE! Ans a big-busted one to boot, so now what?

                    • Can I have your phone number, darlin’?

                    • well, i guess that means i got to cut down on the big words in my posts…no more 5 letter words. LMAO!

                    • PICTURE(of her PREPS) first, leonard…rule #1 in online hookups….how do you know if she’s single?….she’s DEFINITELY got the right mindset…

                    • You’re right. I must have been thinking with the wrong head, again…

      12. Afghanistan is falling to the Taliban as we speak. War in eastern Ukraine is imminent. US is removing their nukes from Turkey right now. Moving them to Romania, according to open source info. Something bad is about to happen. Can the Globalists defeat Russia, China and all of their allies? Remember it’s not us against the other guys. It’s the people who control out government against the other guys. At our precious expense.

        • Time to kill Soros… The evil Satan worshiping, people hating wrinkly old bastard.

Would love to cut his friggin’ head off with a old rusty blunted blade.

Prepare to pay the ferryman Soros. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

          • a rusty old SPOON might be more fun.

          • Agree, Soros needs to be on The FBI’s most wanted Domestic Terrorist List. Dead or Alive, Providing $100 Million to Black Lives Matter, to incite hate, racism, chaos, rioting, property destruction and terror on America’s streets. He was also behind the funding of Ferguson Mo. Riots.

Hello FBI are you listening? Get busy.

            ~WWTI…

            • to read that Soros is grooming his son to take his place is the most depressing thing I’ve read this week.

              • Then make it a 2fer…father and son event.

                • According to all them Haggeeites, all 60+ Million of them in usa, You Must Bless em ALL! So that would include Soros and son too.

Because as promoted/preached by hagee and his ilk, every single one ever born and even those yet to get born are to be included in that bless them apostasy stuff they teach.

According to haggee and his Ilk, aka aprox 300,000 Fellow preacher teachers in usa. That entire tribe from day of abraham till final last day of This age/world all must get blessed no matter What they may do wrong since They and We goyim differ.

The main difference according to hagee and his Ilk, is that We the goyim have a seperate covenant with God, and the entire tribe that ever lived or yet shall live have their very Own seperate covenant. Hagee calls it “The Old covenant and the New covenant” Theirs and Ours.

He also has Yutube Videos out where he states that “Christians are to NEVER spread the Gospels of Christ to jews because they get a totally Free pass on all judgment by God.” I rekon them 60 Million cohort fellow travelers like him believe that apostasy too eh?

Everyone needs Jesus for salvation, except jewry that gets free pass…Sounds alot like God loves all folks equally but loves jews more! And that is proof God is NOT a racist or predjudiced against anyone…Or the Biggest Oxymoronic statement they make yet?

So those who Fail to bless soros and son, as well as Every dual citizen politition like schumer and boxer and finestien and Wasserman et al are going to get Huge Curses from God and cause america to also get massivly cursed as a nation due to that Failure to bless em all with a 100% FREE Pass. NO…MATTER…WHAT! They do bad or wrong period.

And 60-to-70 Million usa so called ‘christians” believe in and Live by That as if it was real and truth!

Do you folks Now begin to comprehend as to just why NO proper real usa Fix will occure as long as so Many usa folks continue such apostate beliefs?

How can usa ever get a real Fix or re set when a full one Third of majority white folk act that way? plus add in another one Third that are Lib dem fools that treat African Blacks in exact same “Can’t do NO wrongs” belief system! The one final Third of whiteys left that do not subscribe to either sides apostasy and falshoods cannot get the job done alone.

And this does not even yet deal with all them Others of many different ethnicities and sects that also disagree with and vhememantly Hate Us whiteys!

Sure looks like those Bible verses that state about how in last days era ALL nations will be against israel…is speaking about Us Whites! For Nobody but Us whiteys have almost everybody else alligned against Us now and against America which would biblically be that “I shall Regather Israel into a,New lands NOT the lands I gave Your fathers”, and all the rest of those verses well describes that CAN Only BE America and European Whiteys or Most of them anyways as being the True lost tribes israel decendants.

This Must be reason whites and america were So well Blessed by God prior and especially during the early 1800 ad era when our industrial and manufactureing age began in earnest eh….Every Nation on earth and the familys those nations contained, Did get royally blessed also when americas cup of blessings overflowed into all other nations too..Just like the bible says it would happen eh!

unfortunatly today those same 60+ Million Haggeeites also are still awaiting some Future geat blessings to happen to mid east state israel and the whole tribe globally.

But all those named or stated blessings already did happen as of 1800 ad or so. Which was the Ending era of when God in the bible said “I shall Withold the blessings first promiced to abraham and passed down after him, untill 2,500 Years ( aproximate, blessings were three times witheld and each time God added 7-times or 7-fold time to wait for those blessings, third final witholding was to last aprox 2,500 Yrs which Ended around 1800 ad era).

So if this is truth and fact biblically? Then at some point in future, WE the True modern day decendants of ten northern tribes of israel are going to get Divine Interventions to assist Us against All those Other “enemys” alligned against america and us whiteys.

In other words WE will WIN it ALL no matter What others try to do against Us period.

Put That in your bagel cart and smoke it eh!

                  • ❤❤❤

                  • I’m guessing that Pastor Hagee never read:
Galatians 5:1: Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. 2 Behold, I Paul say unto you, that if ye be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing. 3 For I testify again to every man that is circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law. 4 CHRIST IS BECOME OF NO EFFECT UNTO YOU, whosoever of you are JUSTIFIED BY THE LAW, YE ARE FALLEN FROM GRACE. 5 For we through the Spirit wait for the hope of righteousness by faith.

        • “O”
Thank God some one else is watching these things.

You don’t squat about it any where, but a small blurb here and there. People have no idea how bad it really is, and how close to all out war we are. One tiny misstep could mean a shooting war like the world as we know it has ever seen.

I read or heard somewhere that the fighting is so bad in Ukraine that Russia is about to roll in with very heavy equipment. Also NATO has added some very heavy stuff also. Heavy I mean NUKE heavy.

          Off. Topic REQUEST!!!!
MAC WHAT CAN YOU FIND. PLEASE SEE WHAT YOU CAN FIND, AND LET US KNOW. Thanks Sgt.

How dare Muslims do that eh Agent? What gave muslims the right to replace Jesus manger scene display on whitehouse Lawn, with a 95 FOOT TALL Minoarah to honor Hanakuah eh?

Agent You shouls be Appaled about this!

      15. Just remember this while prepping………don’t tell anyone you’re prepping.

And when SHTF….hopefully read/anticipate it before it happens so you can avoid it and get out of harms way.

Its really not the actual situation/event that gets you, its what happens after. That’s what gets people.

……and if you have a family with young children…..I wish the best of luck to you. You cannot have a family in this day and age.

        • first rule about prep club…..NEVER talk about prep club!

      16. Very good list above.
        Tin foil,and tarps also.

Stock up on shopping bags, double them up for your potty. This sounds funny but if you don’t take care of this you will get sick very fast!!!!

        Sgt.

        • Sgt. I found a great source for lots of free plastic grocery bags. Just dip into the plastic bag recycle box near the exit of wally world. I grab a few bundles on my way out after buying groceries. Thats what they are for, to repurpose or recycle. Go gir some and stack that away as well.

          -WWTI…

          • I do it all the time.

      17. There are some talking-heads on the internet doing nothing but chinwag over and over and over about how TPTB are using race to “DIVIDE AND CONQUER”

        Yeah right,,,
        Muslims hate you.
        They want to convert you.
They are only pleased when they actually get to kill you.

        Enough of this total bullshit.

        Islam is your enemy.

        Muslims hate you.

You need to stop the Islamification of America before they gain the whip hand.

      18. Main item: toilette paper

        • The Muslim wipes their dirty shitty ass with their left hand.

          • bomma is left handed.
I seen it I swear or swore, whatever..

            • And afterward,he always licks his fingers…

          • Its true they do use their left hand to wipe their butt with, but also the people in India do that too, not just the muslims., and these people NEVER eat with their left hand. They always use the right hand and fingers for food. I know cuz i used to know some Indian people when i was younger and they were taught at a very young age to only eat with the right hand and use the left to wipe their butt.

        • I keep 12 bundles of the 24 rolls of toilet package out in a conditioned room of the shop. I keep two additional of those packs up at the house in the garage. One day my S-I-L came to the house and saw those two packs and asked me what in the world did I need all that toilet paper for…… I just smiled, shrugged, and thought of the other dozen she didn’t know about. Another libtard who says she’ll vote for “Stumbles Clinton”.

          • Local grocery here went out of business, sold their goods at up to 75% off. I bought tons of razor blades, shaving lather, toilet paper, tea, sugar, all kinds of such things and had piles of stuff all over the house while I sorted it all out.

I have not spent a dime buying any of those things for probably five years.

            • 🙂

      19. Regards tekroanin.

I thought you disappeared into the mountains…

      20. I am looking for solar battery chargers, to charge A AA C and D batteries, don’t know what to buy, any info on the best ones would be greatly appreciated.

        • Why dink around with the all-in-one junk??? It can take over 8 hours with these to just charge 4 AA batteries and they typically don’t charge the batteries individually, so good luck trying to charge just 3 batteries.

Tenergy make chargers that charge multiple batteries at once with seperate logic for each battery… I have some that do 1to8 AA or AAA, others that do 1to4 C or D, another that does 1to6 9v and another that charges 1or2 123 (aka rechargable batteries for Surefire style lights)

These run off 12v. The chargers came with the 110v adapters (which I use now) but I can run them of the car lighter outlet if you buy/make the right cable (Some of the chargers even came with the car cable.)

Then get a decent solar panel and pickup a charge controller. The 7amp one from harborfrieght will work. The make some cables and you can run a single 240W panel thru the charge controller to several battery chargers at once.

If you must spend more, goalzero has some cool stuff when it comes to charge controllers and panels but it sucks trying to find the right style plugs for making your own cables.

      21. I think this sentence is very telling…..
“Another friend, who is a hairdresser, is charging clients food to do their hair. For a shampoo and dry, she charges a kilo of corn meal”.

There are people starving in the streets, hunting domestic pets, slaughtering zoo animals for food, but these people still go and get their hair done? Did I miss something here?

        • DMONIC

Men can go along time stinking up the place. After about a week of grime, men don’t smell nothing that offends. But they can smell food cooking.

Women after experiencing a living hell hole just want some relief and a shampoo is nice and smells good.

The sense of smell is very strong.

        • guess the women down there are just as simple as the ones in the U.S…my last wife on way out the door with not enough money to live on, had her toes painted fresh, and i remarked “hope THAT didn’t cost more than 10 bucks!”….her reply was PRICELESS, maybe even MORE expensive….”it cost a LOT more than that!”

      22. Friend of mine was ‘dropped off’ in the Balkans during their extended civil unrest, said he quickly discovered he could get or find out anything he wanted via trading BIC lighters. Top of his requisition list, when re-supplied, was a couple of those 100 packs of BIC lighters.

        • I have purchased 450 lighters off of Amazon, for about $90.. I also traded to a local kid 40 lighters for him helping me move some furniture. My cost about $8, and I told him he could sell them for $1 each. SO he saw that as a $40 value, and I saw that as getting my stuff moved for $8. Both of us were satisfied with the trade. He would have helped me for free anyway, but I gave him that incentive as a thank you.

~WWTI… So these items have great value.

          • Some of them slow leak over time, so best to check/test periodically and if any issues, sell/trade now and get more fresher.

          • Ya my wife buys the cheapo lighters and they suck. I always buy bic lighters, they never let me down. You get what you pay for.

            • I was cleaning the garage today, and moved the immovable workbench.

Behind it I found the seven year old Bic lighter that I lost 15 years ago. It’s still half full, 23 years old at least, was stored in an unbeaten garage on the floor, and worked first try. That ain’t half bad.

              • Unbeaten=unheated………….. Damn you autocorrect.

        100 Items to Disappear First

        ht tp://www.thepowerhour.com/news/items_disappearfirst.htm

and as to why people are getting their hair done ?

” The feeling that you’re human can fade pretty fast. I can’t tell you how many
people I knew who would have traded a much needed meal for just a little bit of
toothpaste, rouge, soap or cologne. Not much point in fighting if you have to
lose your humanity. These things are morale-builders like nothing else.”

        • Satori,
If people look too clean, smell good, don’t have worn clothing etc they’d standout and become targets.

I knew a Russian woman who came to the US after the USSR fall. As a teen her mom and dad bought her a pair of black market American Blue Jeans. She had them for years. One guy asked how they’d lasted so long. She said, she would carefully hand wash them like they were delicate. Any frayed edges or weak seems were repaired immediately. The old phrase, “a stitch in time saves nine” applies.

If the SHTF we will find many things need to be treated like they are very delicate.

      24. There is a treaty that restricts how many foreign warships may be in the Black Sea at any time. The Globalists violate that treaty every chance they get. The US has put Aegis missile systems on land near the coast in Romania. Romania is just a bit south of Ukraine. In case you didn’t know, the US military is being used by the NWO, i.e. the Globalists. I enlisted in the Army when I was 18. I thought I was doing my patriotic duty. I was wrong. I was working for the Globalists. We didn’t even know about them back then.(1966).

        • Lot of good it will do them now that Russia can screw with the Aegis systems.

“Aegis” should now be called “Aging”

        Bug Out Bag Contents
The Pack – I have a LC-1 “Alice” pack but any quality pack with enough capacity will do. Stick with camouflage, dark green or other atural colors that blend with the terrain.
Water – A canteen with cup and cover for your belt, water bottle and a good filter.
Fire – Waterproof matches, a magnesium fire starter and tinder.
Food – Pack enough to last 5-7 days. Rice, oat meal, beef jerky, energy bars etc. Another option is MRE’s and the freeze-dried foods. choose foods that are light weight and a suitable shelf life.
Stove – A small stove is essential it you want to stay hidden. Smoke and noise from the cutting and burning of wood would be undesirable if you are in hostile territory or being pursued. I have a Peak-One backpackers stove, there are others but this is what I have and can recommend.
military 4 part sleep system…protects to minus 30 degrees if you know what to do with it…and at LEAST have the bivy bag part of it in your car in case you get stranded….if you are dressed for the climate you’re in, it might only take that bivy to save yer life. randy
Shelter – Rain poncho and tarp or compact tent, stick with natural colors that blend with the surrounding area.
Cooking – I have a Stainless Steel 5-Piece Mess Kit, that I ordered from amazon.com but any lightweight kit will do.
First Aid – It’s best to assemble your own kit, tailored to your needs, or if you are lazy you can buy a ready-made kit. Don’t forget to add personal medications.
Light – I have a 2-AA Cell Mini LED Flashlight Mini LED Flashlight and a 9-Hour Candle.
Tools – A folding saw, Swiss Army pocket knife, and fixed blade knife. A light weight shovel and Machete are nice, but add extra weight.
Clothing – At least one extra pair of socks and underwear add other items if you feel the need and have the space.

2 pairs of socks. One pair of our socks is a thermal type(wool is best) that will keep your feet warm in up to zero degree weather. It all depends on where you live and where you will be traveling. Cotton socks tend to hold moisture so you might not want cotton.
good pair of warm gloves/work gloves. Mine are a combination of both.

The Pack – I have a LC-1 “Alice” pack but any quality pack with enough capacity will do. Stick with camouflage, dark green or other natural colors that blend with the terrain.
Fishing – Line, hooks and sinkers and a few small lures. I also have a small gill net for catching fish.
Snare wire – I make my own from copper wire. Don’t forget to include at least 50 ft of parachute cord.
Plastic bags – Two or three large lawn bags and several zip-lock sandwich bags, can be used for a number of tasks and to keep things dry.

        • Betcha didn’t write this list with your left hand!!!

          Thanks old bean.

        • Damn. Buttcrack besides the welding gear and dog food caus I dont have a dog I got about 99% of everything on that list. I also have lots of traps, live box traps, conibear traps spring traps snares of all sizes. And many calibers of weapons large and smalls. Rock on, im ready for SHTF. And included at my remote BOL and PM’s. Just need to get my well and 12V pump and tank, and a septic installed and I’m Golden.

          -WWTI..

          • seldom talked about, but when shtf, you BETTER have a dog. it will be your BEST intruder alarm. it needs to be small, because they have the best hearing, tuned in to hear the slightest sounds. because they are small, they NEED to know what’s coming at them…..and they eat LESS. you can have your big, vicious dog(i got 2), but my FIRST aquisition will be small dog when shtf….many are un-housetrainable, so i don’t have one now,…don’t want a dog in the house.

            • buttcrack. I am at the end of a dead end private road and dirt road. The 2nd house from me has 4 yapping Chihuahuas, a big ass dog and another med size dog that love to bark. So anything crawling by that house, gets barked at first, cars or people, day or night, and I am good friends with them and they watch out for anything coming.. That is my early warning alarm system.. The rest of my peninsula property is water filled with gators and miles of swamp, and nobody is coming from that direction. Land side 6 ft barbed wire fence and gate.

              ~WWTI…

        • Buttcrack, you suck!Kidding,I think!I have most of that stuff but am always on the road for work a bit and may not have access things go very wrong very fast. The place I hand when working a lot in one area not badly prepped but still.

That said, first preps most needed need to be ready to mobilize if you for reason must bug out, hopefully not.

          • Damn BCOD, that’s a good one! Don’t forget sugar and yeast! 😛

            • Home Depot has 4 soft white “60 watt” (led) bulbs in a package for $10. Stock up.

They fit into regular sockets. 🙂

          • and thanks to all of you that commented on my list….SOMEday, i’m going to whittle down a few of the repeats, but i been working that list for over 7 years now….and don’t forget, someday i’m going to ask one of you to send it BACK to me….and by all means, if you don’t SEE it there, send an addition to it here…

        • bcdoom,
          “I don’t need preps.
          You have to sleep sometime.”
“I’m coming to your house at o dark thirty for supply run.
But How am I going to carry it all away?”

How about you just adopt me.
I’m sure you came through our town around 1985?
Mom spoke well of you.. Dad.
I would have sent you Father’s Day card but didn’t have your address?

          What a list!!!!!!!!!!!
Never seen anything like it. LMFAO

          • thanks for the reminder, bcjunior, add a pound of that WEED you been smokin’ to the list……….

        • I would add to this list a pressure canner and all accessories for canning: ‘Tattler’ brand re-usable lids, canning salt (which is highly purified and NOT the same as ordinary table salt), sealed bags of granulated citric acid, tongs, canning funnels, etc. And there’s no such thing as too many canning jars.

Keep an eye open at yard sales, flea markets, second-hand shops, etc. for pressure canners being sold from house clean-outs, unwanted wedding gifts, etc. In a SHTF scenario, it will be highly advisable to have one or two backups in case your primary canner is lost, stolen, or damaged.

A system that enables food preservation without electricity will be priceless. It should never be sold or traded; but under very specific conditions (e.g., the owner and friends observe the canning process from start to finish, with arms at the ready) it could be advantageous to rent out a canner: for instance, one of every five jars of food being canned goes to the owner of the pressure canner.

I would also add mosquito netting to this list. No such thing as too much of that, either…. in a long-term crisis, you will use tons of netting at doorways, windows, sleeping areas, everywhere…. and any that you don’t use will have phenomenal value as a trade item.

          • and don’t forget the book on canning….ball, as i recall.

        • I think you pasted at least X3…

          • Well, if I repeat myself occasionally, that would seem to put me in good company here…. LOL

      26. Fresh water all around me. Got everything I need So cut off my electric my money lost my wife you can’t do nothing but kill me. If you want to try i’ll be around.

        • Sounds bad.

I wish you all the best that I can.

          Stay strong.

      27. Spent the day making chicken bone broth in my pressure cooker. Bone broth is extremely nutritious. Most people will overlook bones as a source of nutrition, especially at the beginning of a food shortage. Turned out pretty good. I had three servings.
Let me just say that my great grandmother had no feminine products or disposable diapers and no shampoo besides soap. She would have a few choice words for us today.

      28. SERIOUS QUESTION: Been reading this board for awhile; and you guys are pretty saavy. My question is: How LONG can you have store bought canned food before it goes bad? Today for lunch; I was going to cook myself a burger; with a small can a Bush’s Baked Beans from my prep pile. Looked at the Expiration Date: Jan. 2007. Popped the top. Looked and smelled o.k.; but I didn’t want to take any chances. IF somebody could clue me in to this; I’d certainly appreciate. Thanks.

        • Dave,if cans not rusting usually good way beyond expire date, just check as you open, but, especially if heating up/cooking probably good to go,choice of food or starve, well, worth any risk.

That said,as you buy canned goods among other food items rotate and eat,buy what you like/can live with.

As a wise man once said,”The smalls add up”,any little bit of prepping supply wise helps. You interested have a link that can feed a family of 4 for a year on 300 dollars, boring and dull but if you have water/safe place can be done.

          • actually, warchild…this is a good time to point out that ANYthing put in your mouth AFTER shtf,….BETTER be GOOD, or you might just end up dead…..we’ll be drinking the juice from cans of corn or green beans before it’s all over…ANYthing “sterile will be much better than “taking a chance” on gettin’ sick with no more doctors around….whether it be the water, or the food.

        • Dave, I have eaten canned stuff way beyond the expiration date and it was ok. The law rquires them to put a date on cans but it lasts a lot longer in reality. The only thing is it will not taste as good and nutrients will break down. I notice a lot of things now have a “best by” date. It may not be the tastiest but it will keep you alive.

          • Oh ya and make sure to cook it well first just in case lol.

          • I had tuna fish cans and sardine cans that were 14 yrs old. I ate the tuna. Gave the sardines to the cats as they were all mushy, still edible, but mushy.

        • Dave,
In 1975, I lived on C rats for three months, they were dated 1950-52. My understanding is, that as long as the food was sterile after canning and remain sterile, canned goods will last, pretty much forever. Might not taste as good, but protein is protein.

          • On that note, I’ve had Vietnam era MRE’s back in the early 90’s and I’m still kickin’. They weren’t the greatest, but they filled the bill at the time.

I’ve also eaten from old dated cans too.

I have heard of the US Guberment selling those “C” rations to other friendly military’s as excess and they didn’t have problems.

            • what are they GOING to say, when you’re the bully of the block(world)?

        • Unless the can is swollen, it is perfectly good. The Expiration Date is really just optimum freshness of the contents if eaten before that date. It may not be as nutritious, or as colorful or flavorful as before the date, but it’s still good foot and should be consumed.

When you open the can, listen for the sound. If it’s gone bad, you’ll hear and feel the air rushing out.

If in doubt, throw it out.

Mostly the acid foods like tomatoes or beans will give you a problem. Luckily, tomatoes or beans can be grown in a garden in one season, so your canned stuff can be used up early on and replaced by fresh veggies in season and your own canning in winter.

Rely on dried beans once the canned stuff is gone.

        • Back in 1998, I began prepping for Y2K–which, of course, never happened. Among my preps were a couple dozen large cans of Dinty-Moore Beef Stew. I’d forgotten about them until 2011,when I found them in my temperature-unregulated storage room. I tried one can–some of the flavor had been lost, but the stew was edible. I added a can of beef gravy to the can of stew, and it was better than it ever was.

        • never DID like bush…..the beans, AND the prez-dunt…..but i DID learn of an old indian trick at costco one day…add a quarter cup or so of your favorite BBQ sauce to those beans,….even pork and beans….and it really makes them much better….i use cans that are 7-8 years old fairly often…even tomatoes…the only cans i ever had go bad was ONE tomatoes, and one fruit cocktail, and it was VERY obvious by looking at the cans…when they LEAK, throw them out…and push the top down before opening ANY can…it SHOULDN’T move much, and won’t “pop” back up if seal is still good…..served 6 year old bush beans to my 4 wheeler club a while back with the BBQ sauce(kraft, 48c a couple years ago) and two of them mentioned how good they were…funny you questioned about the very beans i was serving.

        • I went through my entire canned goods section at the end of July. There were cans of fruit, veggies and tomato sauce that expired in 2011. They ate just fine. Even the leftover tomato paste from 2009 were okay, just had a slight tin taste … nothing a little extra oregano couldn’t cover.

I did have 2 cans of strawberries I found at the dollar store that busted a seal…no biggie, everything else was just fine.

I took the opportunity to write the year of expiration on every single can top. I put the newest in the back and the oldest up front for near future use.

I checked all of my buckets. And my pet supplies. All okay.

My CAT sleeps on top of the TP stack, so no mice or anything like that there. I sprayed the back of the storage area with citronella oil again. I did that 5 YEARS ago and there was not one bug anywhere to be found.

I felt pretty good (and tired) after all of that work.

      29. Don’t post much but enjoy everyone’s info, have used said info and I and some close friends are putting to good use, everyone’s on there on exercise regime and seems to be working well ,as my friends and I are getting up in age, everyone gets together once a week for meeting and a good round of arms training, but I really appreciate everyone here and hope for the best , we’re prepping here for the worst,God bless everyone here may keep you and your loved ones from harm.

        • thanks, devil…welcome.

      30. Use a pressure cooker for everything. It sterilizes food cooks way faster , and can’t be smelled by starving desperate people a mile away . And their starving dogs.

      31. Dog is a nutritious and delicious meal, according to a Filipino I once worked with.

        • That could explain the disappearance of BO–Brokeback Obama’s dog…

        • As with any un-clean meat, cook it well done to be safe.

          • I am told that the liver from any canine has toxic levels of vitamin A–same is true of Polar Bears and some sharks.

      32. Thanks for the list.
What was most interesting to me is … Gold coins and gold bars are not in the list.

I read somewhere that during World War Two … soap and cigarettes were the most common currency. Not gold.

      33. Solar Panels and EMP – None of the inverter companies have hardened or tested against EMP. I’ve emailed and called around and asked, and read extensively. You need to keep your inverters and control system in shielded storage until you think the last weapon has been fired. Also, do you really think that those with access to bulk overhead imagery don’t know where every solar-equipped structure in the world is? Panels on your roof is like an invitation to be commandeered after SHTF.

        • check out Google Sat view and note all the commercial buildings in the area that have large solar arrays. Make special notice of buildings that are unoccupied that have lots of panels. Just saying its a fun “what if” research project. Like research for writing a novel!

May I suggest people read Frank Herbert’s “Dune”. It is a thinly veiled story about Muslims taking over the freaking planet and controlling oil and the press. Read it, it really is quite prophetic. A must read for all preppers, yes they will use atomic weapons………. Got it preppers!

      34. I was reading this thread and realized, I’ve completely missed the boat on prepping, in fact the boat sank with all my guns and fishing rods, that I took for a weekend of fishing and hunting.

I don’t have any stored water or food. I’m a glutton, I ate it all. I do have a half dozen AA batteries left, does that count for prepping?

Wow this is all a terrible misunderstanding. What am I doing here anyway?

Yes officer, I do have a club pack of hamburger, I admit it….. Take me away to the FEMA camp. Oh the agony of being a prepper.
