Young People Are Increasingly Blaming “Climate Change” For Not Saving For Retirement

An increasing number of younger Americans are blaming climate change for not putting away money for their own retirement.  They say that because the world won’t exist when they retire (because of climate change) there’s no need to save any money.

But if we apply that logic to everything, there is never a need to prepare for the future of anything and the liberal ideology crumbles upon itself.

Market Watch used a young professional as an example of this flawed thinking. Lori Rodriguez, a 27-year-old communications professional in New York City, is not saving for retirement, and it isn’t necessarily because she can’t afford to, but because she doesn’t expect it to matter. Like many people her age, Rodriguez has bought into the propaganda and religiously believes that climate change will have catastrophic effects on our planet. Some 88% of millennials (a higher percentage than any other age group) believe in the climate change religion and 69% say it will impact them in their lifetimes.

“I want to hope for the best and plan for a future that is stable and secure, but, when I look at current events and at the world we are predicting, I do not see how things could not be chaotic in 50 years,” Rodriguez says. “The weather systems are already off, and I don’t think it’s hyperbolic to be a little apocalyptic.”

The mainstream media isn’t helping either.  Using manipulation techniques, the media engulfs people in a constant barrage of depressing and hate-filled news stories. So much so, that many young people are skeptical about saving for a future they are constantly being told won’t exist.

Just to clarify for these younger people, in 2008 liberal hero Al Gore predicted that there would be no polar ice caps in three to five years because of global warming. However, the “inconvenient truth” is that the ice caps are still there today (over ten years later).

Interestingly enough, right after stating that younger Americans don’t save for retirement because they believe climate change will destroy the world, Market Watch clarified that mental health could be an issue.

Mental-health issues affecting young adults and adolescents in the U.S. have increased significantly in the past decade, a study published in March in the Journal of Abnormal Psychology found. The number of individuals between the ages of 18 and 25 reporting symptoms of major depression increased 52% from 2005 to 2017, while older adults did not experience any increase in psychological stress at this time, and some age groups even saw decreases. –Market Watch

Jean Twenge, who authored the study cited by Market Watch, says this spike in mental health issues may be attributed to the increased use of digital media. Technology has changed modes of indoctrination just enough to impact social lives and communication. Millennials are also said to suffer from “eco-anxiety,” according to a 2018 report from the American Psychological Association, with 72% saying their emotional well-being is affected by the inevitability of climate change, compared with just 57% of people over the age of 45.

Two-thirds of millennials (defined by Pew as the generation born between 1981 and 1996) have nothing saved for retirement, according to the National Institute on Retirement Security. And now we know why some aren’t saving.  The religion of climate change has a death grip on their mental stability.

It isn’t that we don’t want to take the planet. Those who don’t subscribe to the climate change religion of hysteria simply believe that people should care for the Earth the best way they can.  Putting the Earth’s salvation in the hands of a few bureaucrats isn’t going to solve anything.  After all, government officials can’t even clean up a trash pile in the Democrat’s paradise of Los Angeles. If climate change was really a problem, there’s no way authoritarians could solve it nor would they want too. There’s just too much money to be made off the gullible masses.

      1. $300 sneakers, $800 iPhones etc. Of course climate change is responsible.

      2. In 1977,
By order, I attended a Commanders call. You have to have been in the military to appreciate what that is, it is a very mandatory meeting. During that meeting he informed us that we would be out of fossil fuels in a very few short years and we need to prepare for this certain future and suffer by conserving. Carter was president. Contrary to popular folklore, after giving due respect to rank you can protest when in the military, it is expected. I an, E5 told my commander that he was full of sh it and why.
Kids today don’t know how to question and think.
BTW the commander recommended me for re-enlistment, I didn’t take him up on the offer.

        • Well, at least you only got lied to. We got injected with “Swine Flu Vaccine”, because “Swine Flu is about to sweep the globe”! Half of the guys got sick, from the shot (I got a hematoma), and it came out a couple years later that the “vaccine” was never intended to be used on humans… Oh well, we were just Grunts, right?

As far as the “climate change” lie goes, the people who started it, back in the 70’s plainly stated, that it was a social change ploy. Of course, this goes un-noticed today.

The climate change is due to many natural factors, the sun, and earth cycles.

The politicization of climate change relies on misinformation and on the failures of public education.

The climate change hoax will be the joke of the 2030’s. People will be dumbfounded at the ignorance and stupidity of the believers.

A denier is one who denies that something is true. I wonder. In the months and years ahead, will climate change deniers be treated like holocaust deniers?

In Canada a law has passed; “offensive” public displays of Christianity are going to be punished as crimes.

        • My Solar Panels luv this Sunny weather here in FL.. My Battery Bank is sitting at 14.2 Volts right now, as I power my laptop. Its been 4 years this month, I originally set up my Solar system. No Electric bills since. All off the grid… Take control of your lives folks, and stop your whining.

          • TSB,
            You read my comments.

        • The politicization of climate change relies on misinformation and on the failures of public education.

Hmmmm, would this be more accurate if stated as below?

The politicization of climate change relies on misinformation and on the successes of public education.

      4. Looking forward concerned that there will be any future is a sign of the times. Not hard to imagine looking around at the overall decline just in my lifetime. So it’s understandable to take the attitude damn it all, blow it all.

      5. Perks, a hand-to-mouth-living wage, and retirement are no longer considered customary, irrespective of climate change.

If you won’t bother to find a workaround, it’s the slumlord employers, who will drive you to extinction.

Except Rodrigues, Lori. You should be ok.

      6. This sounds like an article written by a boomer who could pay for a house with 3 years of salary.

How the heck are we supposed to save as a youngster? I make enough for my 1950’s house mortgage. I grow my fruits and veggies and scratch cook every meal, dont drink, dont smoke, dont spend on frivolous things like tattoos or electronics, I drive an old beater truck that I paid cash. I have no debts except a small mortgage for a house in the boonies that I’m fixing myself.. I work 50 hours a week at more than double the minimum wage and I can’t afford to save more than 200$ a month.

Retirement is a luxury, we can’t afford the same lifestyle older gents got used to

      7. When any governmental entity tells you that there is a need for tighter regulation of our lives and greater taxation (and redistribution), it is a crock of lies. Growing up in the last half of the twentieth century, I believed that I wouldn’t live past 2000 because of nuclear war. It is 2019. You just can’t be sure of the future.

      8. The bacteria mutate too fast for the scientists who develop new antibiotics to keep pace. They’re concentrating on finding an adjunct therapy that will improve the effectiveness of the existing antibiotics. Since we “borrowed” antibiotics from fungi, who also have an on-going war with harmful bacteria, maybe the fungi might develop new antibiotics if they’re exposed to these antibiotic-resistant bacteria.

      9. Love AOC, best new Lady Comic since Lucy or Carol Burnet! What?…she’s not a Comic?

        • SW,
AOC makes me sick to my stomach.
The fact that Americans elected her,
merely re-enforces my opinion that most
Democrats are idiots and should be eliminated
          before they have kids.

          • Rellik, I’ve seen some real ‘winners’ among libturds over the years but that AOC takes the cake and the whole damn bakery along with it. Could her blowing hot air be called ‘climate change’? LOL!

          • Was she elected? Really?
Sometimes I wonder if she wasn’t placed there just to stir things up.

            • AOC answered a casting call for people to run against the Dem. incumbent…no political experience (which isn’t necessarily a bad thing)…I read about it on zero hedge..
              A true Manchurian candidate.

        • SW, that’s an insult to Lucille Ball and Carol Burnett. Those two were funny as hell. Ain’t nothing funny about that AOC bitch.

      10. Responsibility and Accountability are foreign words to 95% of people under 40 years of age, and that’s probably lowballing..It’s not only easier to blame others for your shortcomings in life, but it’s also become acceptable to do so..Kids have been taught to blame society, race and/or poverty for their shortcomings in life..The truth is, the majority of people just simply need to look in a mirror to see who’s actually holding them back..

      11. It fits the liberal agenda.
If people depend on gov, they will allow gov to get away with anything so long as they get handouts.
the poor are dependent, these libs are future dependents..

      12. They are deathly afraid of a non-existent problem (“climate change”). At the same time, they are blissfully unaware that $22 trillion in national debt is unpayable. They have no understanding of the consequences of default and the inevitable collapse of civilization which will follow. They can’t imagine a world with no electricity, no food, no water, no sanitation, no civil order, and no hope of their return. They will likely be farmed for food by desperate, cannibalistic urban savages.

      13. Let them believe that planning for the future doesn’t matter, but at the same time, let’s not support their bad decisions by bailing them out when the end doesn’t come and they are left with nothing.

      14. I remember articles from the 1970’s about the soon coming ice age, most articles quoted “well-respected” scientists and experts. They stated there would be loss of food production, starvation, and a massive shift of populations farther south to the tropics. It was even being taught in school.
Then, in the early 1980’s the alarm went out the earth was heating up from the “green house effect” with ocean levels rising more than a 100 feet higher than now due to all ice melting from the poles, the world’s coastal cities under water by the year 2000, with global temperatures causing year round highly destructive hurricanes year round. I live in the Southeast US, not too far from the ocean, the sea level and tides are exactly the same as they have been for decades. Some have said water in some places is going farther in, that is due to erosion.
It appears globals temperatures aren’t rising; now the minions for TPTB are spreading the alarm for “climate change”. When will people stop listening to them?
In a few decades, after all the hysteria blows over it will be obvious to independent thinkers this alarmism was nothing more than propaganda used to help inculcate the submissive young masses who have lost critical thinking skills. No doubt the gov’t will say at that time catastrophe was avoided due to their official measures.
Since it appears the majority of the under age 35 are not saving, or having families, or investing in their lives for the future they will reap what they sow; no doubt there will be a lot of impoverished people. They will demand socialism and redistribution, and that gov’t take a heavy hand to correct their problems (just what TPTB want).
Climate change is being presented to the world’s masses as a religion would be, so that it isn’t criticized, or examined critically, you must simply believe it. For TPTB to succeed they must have full compliance of this belief, it will sooner or later come to the point that opposition to climate change will be penalized.
Look for more useful idiots like AOC placed in positions of gov’t to help push TPTB agenda.
I am not saying we should be careless about the environment, we should be good stewards of the earth, but we should be concentrating on real problems. The most precious man-made resource a country can possess in a large, modern, efficient, and environmentally sound industrial/manufacturing base; but the most precious natural resources are its groundwaters, its soil, and to increasing areas covered by its natural plant life/greenery.
Even if the US somehow fully complied with TPTB environmental agenda (it won’t because a – its not real, and b – its not possible even if it was real) it would not make any difference globally..
If you really want to make serious environmental improvements go to India and China – two environmental sh*t holes, in every way. Those two countries alone have 90% of the dirtiest cities in the world, dirtiest air in the world, and dirtiest water in the world, google it.

      15. Blaming it on climate change is the ultimate cop out. If it wasn’t that it would be some other excuse. whatever one wants in life will have to work for it,put in the time and effort. Nobody on this planet is going to give them the life they want without struggling for it. Waiting for mommy and daddy to kick off and inheriting something is too much to wish for. Snowflakes need to get a life….

      16. We heard the same thing about Social Security for the last three generations: “It won’t be there when we get old enough to collect it…” ad nauseum. Guess what? It’s still here and benefits are still being paid. They’re not worth nearly what they were years ago, true, but they’re still being paid.

This is typical. Identify or, if necessary, inflate or create a problem and the proceed to “solve” it politically, which guarantees that the cure will be much deadlier than the (mostly imaginary) disease.

      17. Growing up in the last half of the twentieth century, the big concern was with the “inevitable” nuclear war with the Soviet Union. There were a lot of young people who were convinced that saving for retirement or trying to better yourself was pointless because we were going to be killed before we got old. This was a more real possibility than “man-made” climate change. There are a lot of things going on in the world that are threatening but giving up is not a real option. People survived past SHTF situations. Young people can survive it but it will take all that they have to do so.

      18. If you are surrounded by negativity 24/7 and are being told on a daily basis that the sky is falling, you will eventually become paranoid and/or desensitized to the point that nothing really matters anymore.Case in point, how many people here were prepping BEFORE the Internet came along? Society has been declining for over 40 YEARS and we had already lost the vast majority of our manufacturing base by 1990,yet few people were prepping in the 70’s/80’s and even 90’s..If you only started prepping after discovering and following “sh*t fan sites” all you did was simply found something that interested you and it basically turned into a HOBBY…

      19. Don’t they have to get a job first?

That’s right, they expect someone else to give them free money for life, starting at age 18.

I went on my weekly shopping trip today, another record obese day. What is sad is all the under 30 women that are pushing 220. Of the hundreds of women I seen today, only two was worthy of my time. And one of them I’m married to. Hint: I hate fat people and there is no excuse.

(AP) NEW YORK – A group campaigning against obesity predicts that by 2030 more than half the people in 39 states will be obese – not merely overweight, but obese.

Yet you prep for a hurricane that you should of evacuated from, and teach yourself how to start a fire using items you can purchase by clicking the links to Amazon.

      20. When you’re young, retirement seems a long way away. Getting out of your parents’ basement and establishing yourself is more important. Man-made climate change is not the problem the climate alarmists think it is.
