Last Wednesday, a small power station in Nogales, Arizona was the site of a mysterious bomb attack that left no injuries, nor any witnesses. The assailant(s) broke into the facility sometime between 4pm Tuesday and 8 am Wednesday, and planted a small incendiary device on the valve of a 50,000 gallon diesel tank. The device managed to burn the surface of the steel, but failed to ignite the fuel inside the container. If they had succeeded it could have disrupted power for 30,000 people.
The FBI is currently investigating the attack, but have no leads as far as we know. There were no signs of vandalism that are often left behind by environmental terrorists, who would normally be suspected in an electrical grid attack. The FBI is currently looking into several other incidents that were reported earlier this year:
“On Thursday, law-enforcement officials said the FBI was looking at past suspicious incidents in the area, citing one near Sahuarita, north of Nogales. In that incident, someone was reported to be trying to cut power lines, law-enforcement officials said.
On Feb. 9, target shooters near a substation in that area were seen on security cameras, causing alarm. Police and the utility’s security officers traveled to the site to ask the shooters to move along, but they were gone when police arrived, Salkowski said.”
This incendiary attack has officials worried after a similar incident was reported at a power substation in San Jose earlier this year. The attack was initially considered to be a case of vandalism until more details were exposed to the public, nearly 10 months after the fact.
Rather than a bomb, the San Jose attack turned out to be a frighteningly coordinated shooting. It’s estimated that 6 individuals approached the facility late at night armed with AK-47′s, and opened fire, but not before sneaking onto the property and disabling the alarm system. The attackers managed to disrupt a total of 10 transformers, and escaped just before police arrived. Investigators would later find more evidence of just how professional the attack was:
“After walking the site with PG&E officials and FBI agents, Mr. Wellinghoff said, the military experts told him it looked like a professional job. In addition to fingerprint-free shell casings, they pointed out small piles of rocks, which they said could have been left by an advance scout to tell the attackers where to get the best shots.”
On the surface, this recent attack doesn’t appear to have as much in common with the shooting in San Jose. The suspects didn’t use firearms and they failed to disrupt the facility as much as the San Jose incident. The facility they attacked was merely a backup power producer for peak hours, not a major substation. What they do have in common is a little more startling though.
Both attacks reveal the possibility of scouting and probing the property before the attack, in this case armed individuals were seen in the area several months before, and it was reported that someone was trying to cut power lines nearby in a separate case. Both attacks involved assailants infiltrating the facility after hours and despite the coordination of the attacks, neither succeeded in disrupting the power supply in any meaningful way. And of course both incidents involved cheap and relatively low tech weapons to destroy this expensive equipment. Neither incident left the traditional calling signs of a terrorist group.
Let’s play devils advocate for a moment, and assume the possibility that both attacks were perpetrated by the same organization (and given the multiple individuals involved in the San Jose attacks, it is definitely an organization of some kind). The coordination and lack publicity from any terrorist groups seems to imply, at least in my mind, that this is state sponsored. If they were sponsored by some foreign state, they certainly had the means to do way more damage and disrupt the power supply in a big way. So Why didn’t they?
I suspect these attacks are probing missions. While the American power grid is incredibly vulnerable, it is still massively complicated. If someone were attempting to bring it down, they need to know its ins and outs, and they need know where it is most vulnerable. They need to know how difficult it is to bypass the security of these facilities. They need to develop a map of all of our power plants, substations, power lines etc. Heck, they may even pull off minor attacks of little consequence, just so the news may give them more information on the facility.
Since this organization appears to be fairly low budget, they have to figure out how they can destroy the grid with the fewest number of attacks. There certainly exists a handful of locations that if disrupted, could eliminate the power supply for millions of Americans, if not everyone in the country. These perpetrators are not yet ready to pull off such an operation. They need to see what happens, on the small scale at first, when certain parts of the grid are damaged or disabled.
I’ll admit, I could be making a few leaps with these conclusions, and I’m no stranger to paranoia. There isn’t nearly enough evidence to prove these attacks are related. But if I’m wrong, that means there may be several unrelated groups interested in destroying our power supply. If you ask me, that might be even more worrisome.

Undoubtedly there are many evil people who happen to be jews, but in my experience there is no monopoly on evil. Just look at what is happening in Iraq, Nigeria, and Kenya if you doubt that. After 13.5 years, there is more than enough evidence for reasonable people to conclude that the presidencies of George W. Bush and Barack H. Obama are easily the most destructive in U.S. history.

The Bush and Obama presidencies have effectively dismantled the rule of law and the Constitution by invoking essentially unlimited executive powers in the name of “national security:” we the citizens of the U.S. can now be accused of violating secret laws, be indicted in secret, tried in secret and sentenced to life in prison based on evidence fabricated in secret, i.e. declaring unclassified documents classified after the fact to incriminate and imprison whistleblowers.
How is this any different from totalitarian fascist regimes?
This is absolutely contrary to basic civil liberties defined by the Constitution. Who benefits from this destruction of fundamental civil liberties? (Always start by asking cui bono–to whose benefit?)
The Big Lie is that this destruction of the foundations of the rule of law and civil liberties is for our own good: if the President and the National Security State don’t grab all these powers and deprive you of your constitutional rights, bad guys will destroy the nation.

It doesn’t take a crime lab tech, all you have to do is look at the shell casings. An AR-10 uses a 7.62×51 round and the AK-47 uses a 7.62×39. While both use 7.62 projectile the AR has a bigger casing than the AK.

I’m thinking these attacks are to determine things like average response time, how the media will react, whether or not other power stations will step up security, etc. The list of possible suspects is rather long, considering the porous nature of our southern border. A few years ago, I heard rumors of Iranian Revolutionary Guard command os having infiltrated via Mexico. Is this them? Who knows? It could be cartels, another foreign power, or even an offshoot of the old Project Gladio. It could just be some crazy people who think Mad Max is a great way of living. By the time we discover who, and their motive, it will probably no longer be our immediate concern, if you get my drift. On a more serious note, if war with the federal government were to occur, the best chance for resistance to succeed would be for patriot groups to take down the power grid by any means available. High tech weapons require fuel and electricity to stay operational and the best way to level the playing field is to take down the infrastructure that supplies these to the NSA and its enforcement agencies. Tanks cannot move without fuel, and fuel cannot be moved without electricity to run the pumps that move it. We can only hope the security remains lax at these installations should their destruction be required.

Sorry, but I beg to differ. Our real army couldn’t subjugate 30 million Arabs while using all the latest high tech our modern industrialized society could build. We had our asses handed to us and the only thing that kept it from being a disaster was buying off the guys attacking us and paying them not to plant IEDs and lob mortars into our FOBs.
Yes, a modern army brings with it what it needs to fight, but it is still subject to this annoying little thing called logistics. Modern armies have tooth to tail ratios that are abysmal, and drawing off more trigger pullers to protect vulnerable supply lines and energy resources only makes it worse. They have fixed vulnerabilities that HAVE to be defended at all costs, while an insurgency can strike anywhere and melt away at will. A single Taliban attack upon a line of fuel trucks at the Pakistan/Afghan border brought the forces in country to a single week of supply. Can you imagine the disaster that would have resulted if our military had no fuel to get helicopters into the air to resupply remote FOBs or provide air cover against mass attacks?
People need to stop being pessimists and realize that our oppressors are not invincible. There is no way that 3 million can control 300 million, especially when there is a good chance that a large portion of those soldiers will desert or refuse to fire on fellow Americans. Our greatest enemies will be militarized police who are already used to seeing us as enemies, and food shortages/famines, and disease.

I kind of wonder just how many of the government’s ‘hired-goons/thugs’ are going to be willing to leave their families behind while they engage in operations against their fellow citizens? It has been my experience that bought and paid for fighters are never usually much more than “place-holders”. They are there just as long as the wages are getting paid and the duty isn’t very hard to too dangerous. We are seeing just how well a bunch of “place-holders” are doing right now over there in Iraq; in spite of the bazillions of dollars worth of OUR TAXPAYER BOUGHT AND PAID FOR military equipment left behind and the EQUALLY EXPENSIVE training on how to use said military equipment.
The nincompoop in charge has caused, once again, one of our deep-water carriers to be put into harm’s way there in the ‘bath-tub’ that we call the Persian Gulf. I sure hope that we don’t do anything to REALLY piss-off those nasty Iranians with all of their expensive Chinese made anti-ship missile systems. What I’m taking away from this story is that we should all re-double our efforts to make ourselves as energy (and resource) independent as possible, by any means necessary. I’m an all of the above kind of guy, meaning that I think whatever solution any of us uses is a good thing. And it doesn’t have to be a big thing right away, or its somehow “no darned good”…. for example, I live in South Carolina, and I’m hankering to get a solar power setup. Thing is, we just bought our house, and there were tons of things that needed doing first, so right now, money for a big project is not there. That doesn’t prevent us from growing gardens, stockpiling propane, cooking outside over a fire ring, etc etc. Heck, the 5 dollar worth of clotheslines has saved us money and helped us get just a little more off the grid already: just think how much power is sucked up by your dryer. Here’s another thought: get rid of your carpets and get laminates or hardwoods. If you have dogs like we do, NOT having to run the vacuum 100 times a week is also a blow struck for our independence. Wood floors can be swept by hand

The Obama rules of engagement would not allow the military to carry out the war the way it should have been carried out. Just like LBJ in Vietnam, politics, not superior fire power was the deciding factor in the “stalemate” of Vietnam as well as Iraq.
There is a certain truth to this idea that the supply line is critical to the function of a modern army. Back in the 70s the army was changing over to more modern trucks and I heard retired military mechanics discussing why this could be bad in a war. The old trucks had been built without any “modern” parts so that if the truck broke down out in the field it could be pieced together with whatever the crew could find. They used all kinds of stuff to get those trucks moving and finish the mission. Modern trucks can not do this. They require more and specialized part to run. So if the truck goes down in the field it is done.
The hand that feeds said real army (I mean to say the US tax system being the hand here) can shut down this army in short order. We simply say no mas. No more taxes going in and no more sales to the military by private companies. Sure there would be a temper tantrum to start with by the military, but it would be short lived IF the people of the US stood their ground. Yes, the backups will buy them some time. But when you are talking about an insurgency lasting years or even a decade, the time those backups will buy is irrelevent. The Achilles Heel of the modern police state remains fuel and electricity. Do you have any idea how much fuel a modern main battle tank uses in an hour of operation? Or a C-130 gunship for that matter? Or the train of logistics that is required to provide that C-130 with it’s cannon shells, stretching all the way back to the mines and refineries that dug the ore out of the ground and smelted it into copper and tin and brass and lead; the fuel required to run the power plants and factories and power the trucks and trains that bring the munitions to the battle, and at every step along the way, the people necessary to make it all happen, all with their own logistical needs?
It is for this reason that the feds are doing everything they can to stock up munitions and weapons because they know once the shooting starts there will be no more resupply. Who keeps all those wars going around the world and provides the weapons and ammo? We do! When we are at war with ourselves though, the complexity of our modern weaponry and interdependance on the interactions of many diverse parts of society to keep the production lines going will ensure that there will be no new weapons produced. I’m well aware of what goes on and I want uninterrupted electrical power. If some anti government types desiring a self imposed revolution think that harming the public in any way would endear them to the body politic are sadly mistaken.
In the old west stealing a horse was punishable by hanging because of its need for survival. Electricity holds the same position for many with special needs. My Dad is 92 and in poor health. Electricity is not a luxury but rather a necessity for him; so many others of all ages are in the same position.
In a world of 7 billion + population and finite resources, electricity will soon be a luxury enjoyed only by the wealthy and connected. Most of the world is still devoid of electricity or only has access for several hours a day. We will revert to a world with electricity being far less common and not used for trivial purposes such as illumination. This will happen not due to patriots fighting government forces, but exhausted resources. And this remains true regardless of whatever else happens. I do not mean to sound callous, but if one is dependent on electricity for their daily survival they should be making haste to get an alternative source of electricity in place because this society’s time is almost up.

Actually the oil recovered is abundant enough to be transported by rail from the central west to the east coast for refining. Poland is ripe for fracking as it was a coal producer and NG tends to be abundant in such strata.
Fracking has dropped the price on natural gas by 70% and they’re just scratching the surface. The potential world wide could in and of itself make the oil peg moot as huge imports of energy are no longer needed. You can’t force nations to use the US dollar to buy energy if they have no need for that energy. No doubt this byproduct of it has TPTB concerned as their master plan involved controlling energy resources and requiring nations to us the USD to purchase them.

The electrical grid is a bit like the road network.
If you destroy a few key junctions you could inconvenience a lot of people, maybe even cut off a city or a town but a small group can’t ‘destroy the grid’. Most of the country won’t be directly affected.
Of course you don’t need to destroy the *whole* grid if your plan is to initiate a call for martial law or spread panic through the sheeple.
That is a good analogy; however, the grid isn’t as redundant as a highway system do to all the pieces that support it which are interdependant. For example, if several large transformers in remote locations were destroyed, or those that support pipeline pumping stations, the resulting shutdown could affect the movement of liquid fuels. If this were to occur for long enough, stores would empty of food, JIT logistics chains would grind to a halt, trucks would be idled for lack of fuel, and the resulting chaos would ensure that the powet stayed off as critical personnel flee or are killed by the resulting violence. The Pentagon has wargamed this; by their own admission if the grid went down for any length of time cascading failures would result in 9 out of every 10 Americans perishing within a year.
I wonder about these. Logically, there were no people trying to terrorize the American people because humans are intelligent animals and could figure out a much better plan. Clearly, whacking a few essential rails would shut down alot and is fairly cheap and easy to do. Similarly with the water supply for major cities in dry states. So, logically, we cannot surmise anyone has ever tried to terrorize the American people. Thank God. The core of the American people remain respectful and caring towards all other people; and, I think for that reason are never targeted. TPTB? not so much. and may feel threatened globally.
Not exactly true…Knocking out a power plant for one section of the grid would create additional load for other stations that do not have the electrical capacity to host the electrical needs of the xxx000 customers the downed plant generated for. And if it’s targeting things like the electrical junction and transformation substations…Then these plants are still creating electricity that has no where to go…Eventually leading the possibility of overloading each transformer along its path as well. Specific well targeted locations on the grid could be disastrous.

Funny you mentioned early July as gut instinct. I think Lone Ranger posted a link a while back regarding a Pastor who had been give visions/prophesies (not sure if its valid) but he did mention July/summer time frame for crazy things to happen. I also remember reading about a geologist who mentioned possible earthquake activity for California in July or September (can’t remember links but he did mention something regarding moon phases and the drought conditions). Instantly the dark cloud rolled back, together with the armies it had brought, leaving the inhabitants of the land victorious!
Then once more I beheld the villages, towns and cities springing up where I had seen them before, while the bright angel, planting the azure standard he had brought in the midst of them, cried with a loud voice: “While the stars remain, and the heavens send down dew upon the earth, so long shall the Union last.” And taking from his brow the crown on which blazoned the word “Union,” he placed it upon the Standard while the people, kneeling down, said, “Amen.”
The scene instantly began to fade and dissolve, and I at last saw nothing but the rising, curling vapor I at first beheld. This also disappearing, I found myself once more gazing upon the mysterious visitor, who, in the same voice I had heard before, said, “Son of the Republic, what you have seen is thus interpreted: Three great perils will come upon the Republic. The most fearful is the third, but in this greatest conflict the whole world united shall not prevail against her. Let every child of the Republic learn to live for his God, his land and the Union.” With these words the vision vanished, and I started from my seat and felt that I had seen a vision wherein had been shown to me the birth, progress, and destiny of the United States.
I think the article was pretty good.
1. I doubt, as of the moment, that there is a group coordinating the attacks.
2. People can act independently to achieve the same goals, such as power disruption. There is insufficient publicly available information on the two attacks, and it would be a mistake for law enforcement to connect them without reason, because it would impede their abiity to solve the crime.
3. Jackasses and wannabees could also have attempted the attack. Again, there is insufficient info.
4. Another plausible theory would be the false flag one, where attacks with minimal actual damage are used to justify the industry saising rates in order to pay for a new, higher level of security. The first attack, with the AK-47’s doesn’t seem to fit this bill, but the second one could. The false flag premise would fail, as I see it, since there is little to be gained from that approach.
5. The author was fairly obvious in stating his bias towards paranoia, and seemed to be quite aware that he was only tentatively offering his analysis, without a grandiose headline of imminent and widespread doom.
6. There also could be a home grown terrorist-ish cell which has targeted the power grid. Not enough attacks and publicly available info to tell.
7. The analysis was pretty darn good, particularly:
7a. “I suspect these attacks are probing missions.”
7b. “If someone were attempting to bring [the grid] down, they need to know its ins and outs, and they need know where it is most vulnerable. They need to know how difficult it is to bypass the security of these facilities. They need to develop a map of all of our power plants, substations, power lines etc. Heck, they may even pull off minor attacks of little consequence, just so the news may give them more information on the facility.”
7c. “They have to figure out how they can destroy the grid with the fewest number of attacks.”
7d. “They need to see what happens, on the small scale at first, when certain parts of the grid are damaged or disabled.”

I agree with the assertion that these are probing attacks, trial runs and intelligence gathering missions to see what happens and what works. There is no indication that this is state sponsored, one way or the other, not that it is out of the realm of possibility. Like the author, I see these attempts as related and am concerned that one day, these disturbances will no longer look like probing actions.
Taking down the power grid is not difficult at all. I’ve worked in the power industry for over thirty years and can tell you you don’t have to destroy any substations or power plants to take the grid down. The country is cris-crossed with hundreds of high voltage lines carrying 345,000 Volts A.C. and we even have some 500,000 volt D.C. lines running through the country. Anyone with half a brain knows the power lines can easily be brought down and not one of them is “guarded” per se since they are usually in the middle of nowhere. Their locations are not secret since they are in the open and any terrorist could plan an attack with other terrorists across the country to do massive damage. It would take weeks if not months to bring power back to the country and in the meantime our economy would fail and riots would be everywhere.
Since these attacks are on substations and power generating facilities it smacks of government false flag attacks which get massive media attention so everyone thinks a homegrown rebel did it and people start watching each other and turning each other in for anything they can think of. The Sheeple will gladly trade freedom for false security which is what the government wants.
Then…the biggest attack (false flag attack) occurs dropping the grid on the Eastern half of the U.S. and the government blames it on the Tea Party and NRA and viola’! The government gets to pass a law demanding every American TURN IN YOUR GUNS OR GO TO PRISON! I think that your theory is spot on. The attack will be a false flag most likely blamed on right wing terrorists (Patriots). The American will quickly turn against the Patriot movement when they lose power for an extended period of time. I think that it will not be nation wide, rather a smaller region. Imagine if they could disrupt Arizona, Texas, and several southern states before the 2016 elections.
These power grids attacks could be connected…or could just be whackos trying to start something. Or stop something. Either way, let’s consider the real implications of a national power grid down scenario.
-Nuclear Power reactors (over 104 of them in the US) require cooling water. Assuming dual 3.5 meter inlet pipes, that equates to 3.5×106L/min of cooling water drawn from the ocean, river or other body of water.
-Most, if not ALL Nuclear power plants have only 15-30 days of onsite diesel fuel reserve to run the backup generators. That is not enough to keep the spent fuel pools cooled for long. So national power grid down scenario is really, really bad.
-Hospitals are required to have onsite backup emergency generators as well, but face the same issues as the nuke plants-limited fuel reserves. A lot of people *will* die if the hospitals cannot keep power on, plain ans simple.
-Water, fuel and energy transport all require energy to keep things flowing. Shut off the energy and pumped water flow stops. Lift stations for sewers are no different and you will have sewage backed up everywhere.
Without water flow, people *will* die, plain and simple.
-No power means no ATMS, Banks or stores. Hell, clerks cannot even do simple addition and subtraction now without calculators or computers.
-Former DHS head Janet Napolitano stated the chances of the U.S. grid going down were at 100%. Not 20 or 30 or 60. 100% That’s a pretty bold statement.
The big takeaway word from the grid going down is- death, and lot’s of it. Now that you know some of the more grim facts you will be facing, one has to ask- Who wants us all dead? Hmmm…

Most actually every oil refinery I know of has an internal power plant that is at least sufficient to run the facility providing electricity, steam and compressed air. In the horrific event of no power those utilities will get diesel one way or another. To quote Apollo 13, ” a meltdown is not an option”.
Actually all nuclear power plants are required to have three main Diesel generators on site with enough fuel to run all three for a minimum of 30 days at full load. The third generator was added after Fukishima and more fuel storage is now required on site.
Fukishima’s Achilles heel was not having a direct coupled cooling water pump powered a diesel omitting the generator that can be (and was) shorted out. A nuclear power plant has sufficient residual heat to generate enough steam to supply turbines to power cooling water pumps once again omitting the electrical generator entirely.
Triple completely independent redundancy is the key.
One would think that if scientists were so damned smart, they’d have figured out how to make a power plant power itself, once it got started, eliminating the need for external power and “backup generators.”
The nuke plants have Diesel in storage to last for thirty days running three main Diesel generators under full load. The fuel pool cooling motors are very small electrical loads. The motors are usually only 5 H.P. motors running at 1750 RPM or so. There are two motors in the original fuel pool cooling system and in the last few years all nuke plants have added a secondary fuel pool cooling system with two more small H.P. electric motors as backup. This was due to Fukishima. The fuel pool is the least of our worries. The reactor itself is the problem. If all power is lost the reactor coolant pumps and freshwater cooling systems must be operated to cool the reactor plant water. This can usually be accomplished in just a few days after the reactor is shut down. Running these systems and the fuel pool cooling system for thirty days is very simple since all of these together is not much load, not even for one Diesel generator. The problem arises when the plant operators decide to run more major systems for comfort such as air conditioning throughout the plant on the Diesel generators. Some of these must be run to keep the interior of the plant cool which houses the electronics that run the plant and of course to keep the Control Room cool. Only time will tell if we have to face over 100 nuclear reactors melting down in the U.S. I think it will happen so make sure you know where all the nuke plants are and stay away from them. Get a Geiger counter to monitor radiation levels. It’s going to get nasty out there soon.
Having retired from a fossil fuel power plant within an oil refinery and having talked with like employed nuclear power plant operators I was a tad jealous of their redundancy and NRC oversight.
I live a few months a year within the evacuation zone of a nuclear power plant and never was concerned about its safety. The Japanese plant had their back up generator shorted out with sea water which effectively left them , “dead in the water”.
These operations against the power plants may not be only to place hardship on the people.
How about a secondary target. Something that is guarded with electric protection. Or the need to move something in complete darkness.
There was an attack in January in Tucson. Someone tried cutting suppport beam. Not reported in msm.

There is one other possibility you guys have not talked of. There are a number people, myself included, that think our power grid is too vulnerable. What if some of them shot up that one sub station to bring awareness of our vulnerabilities to the news and force the gov and power companies to increase security.

I think the San Jose attack was done by IBEW thugs. They knew the vault (underground) location, how to open it, and what fiber optic cable to cut and how do do it in such a way it could not be spliced, but a whole new cable installed. (lots of union labor needed). Also they targeted the cooling system shooting holes in the mineral oil lines, again something an electrician would know. (and a ton of union labor to replace). If the PTB wished to protect the grid, they could have been doing that ages ago with redundancy, standby systems, airgaps, hardening, etc. The grid is meant to stay fragile until the PTB take it down on purpose and blame an enemy du jour. The PTB will be in redundant-backup DUMBs with airgapped power not tied to our grid.
