Last week we highlighted comments from TSA Director Nominee Erroll Southers, in which he indicated that under his rule, the TSA would monitor domestic terrorist threats by keeping an eye on anti-government, anti-abortion, survivalist types (Click here to view video of his controversial comments).

It seems that the will of the People is not reflected only in the Massachusetts election results. We learn this morning that Erroll Southers will be stepping down from his TSA nomination:

President Barack Obama’s choice to lead the Transportation Security Administration withdrew his name Wednesday, a blow to an administration trying to explain how a man could attempt to blow up a commercial airliner on Christmas Day.

Erroll Southers said he was pulling out because his nomination had become a lightning rod for those with a political agenda. Obama had tapped Southers, a former FBI agent, to lead the TSA in September but his confirmation has been blocked by Republican Sen. Jim DeMint, who says he was worried that Southers would allow TSA employees to have collective bargaining rights.

In an e-mail to friends and colleagues, Southers said, “It is unfortunate that we are residing in such contentious political times, that exceptional, ‘apolitical’ candidates have to seriously consider their willingness to participate in public service.

With all due respect, Mr. Southers, you are exceptional only in your own mind. It is not you, or the people on your e-mail list that decide whether you will be a fair and balanced representative of the people, but rather, it is the people themselves. This is how America works.

Obviously, your comments set off alarm bells across the nation, and tens of thousands of independent voices spoke out in protest of your nomination.

A blog like SHTF Plan is only a single voice, but when we join with hundreds of others, getting the message out, the people are able to respond and react en masse. We respond with comments on blogs and discussions on forums, email blasts to friends and family, and phone calls and letters to congressional representatives.

The people did not respond because they have a political agenda – they responded because YOU have a political agenda.

    Good riddance.

For a little entertainment, and to celebrate, we provide you with an excellent video clip that demonstrates the power of the people and is also a simple way to teach your children that their voices can be heard, regardless of the perceived strength of those in power:

(We’ve posted it before in a previous comment, but in honor of Southers being booted and Scott Brown winning Massachusetts, we’ll post it again for your view pleasure. The point we are trying to get across runs about 3 minutes)
