Obamacare Requirement Blamed For Doctor Burnout

A government requirement in the massive Obamacare law is being blamed for the burnout of doctors across the United States. A new report found that over just three years as Obamacare was being implemented, “physician burnout increased significantly, from 45.5 percent to 54.4 percent.”

The report published in the American Journal of Medicine found that the electronic health records (EHR) is destroying the relationship between doctors and patients. The Citizens’ Council for Health Freedom charges the Obamacare requirement that doctors use electronic health records has caused a surge of burnout in the medical profession, explains Joseph Farah’s G2 Bulletin. “The EHR is causing doctors to leave their patients,” said Twila Brase, the president of CCHF and the author of “Big Brother in the Exam Room: The Dangerous Truth About Electronic Health Records.”

“Congress forced doctors to buy and use computerized record systems to collect and report patient data to the government. And it’s wreaking havoc on their practices and their patients,” said Brase according to WND. Brase’s book is opening eyes to the problems of government interference in markets – especially the healthcare market.

There are serious dangers lurking behind the government’s $30 billion electronic health record (EHR) experiment. This omnipresent technology turns doctors into data clerks and shifts attention from patients to paperwork–while health plans, government agencies, and the health data industry profit. Patients who think the HIPAA ”privacy” rule protects the confidentiality of their medical information will be shocked to discover it makes their medical records an open book.  –“Big Brother in the Exam Room: The Dangerous Truth About Electronic Health Records,” desription.

“Parallel studies of all U.S. workers during the same period showed no changes,” the report found. It also said studies “show the doctors spend more face time on their EHRs than with their patients.” It added, “The hours spent cloning notes in a mandated doctor computer relationship leaves the physician unable to experience the best part of being a doctor.”

The increase in doctor burnout was not seen in any other profession.  Doctors now spend two hours doing the paperwork required to comply with Big Brother for every hour they spend with a patient. If we thought Obamacare was done destroying what little medical freedom we had left, we were all very wrong.

      1. I have a local doctor that is cash only. Won’t take any insurance or medicare.

He said that the appeals process for medicare was way too burdensome. It would take one employee 30 hours of time to handle the appeals paperwork for Medicare.

The private carriers did not want to pay either. It was all too much bulls shit to deal with, so he is cash only now.

He also cut two office jobs by going to cash only. HE had to have two full time employees in his office of 6 that dealt with only insurance.

I know a lot that are going to cash only. My dentist offers a 35% discount if you pay with cash. He is fed up with the insurance bullshit too.

        • There was probably supposed to be some tax grant or corporate welfare, to hire enough quota cases, to do the fake, bureaucratic makework.

They make life was we know it impossible, dysfunctional, then, expect us to beg for financial relief.

      2. Obamacare officially added 20 million on medical insurance but almost all was on Medicaid. That was created to help the impoverished NOT the young and healthy.

Yet…no provision was made to add a single physician. No provisioj was made to create new medical schools or expand enrollment.

Nothing has addressed a RN shortage that has persisted since 1980! That is nearly 40 years long!

And Medicaid pays 10-25 cents on the dollar for medical payment.

What the heck were gullible Americans thinking? You overwork physicians, and the new 20 million insured cannot possibly pay, so ALL HAD MAJOR INCREASES IN COST. How did that solve anything???

        • Doctor and nursing shortages, along with hospitals closing, was predicted by those that opposed Obama care in the first place.

Of course those pointing this out were ridiculed by those promoting it.

But it is happening anyway, and the proponents don’t seem to be apologizing to them now that it is actually taking place and highly visible for all to see.

      3. They had reportedly trained in starvation and had no right to adequate sleep — these people, making life and death decisions, with your insides.

Barry is a poop stain, but blaming politics was intellectually dishonest.

      4. You like numbers?

        https://www.medicaid.gov/medicaid/program-information/medicaid-and-chip-enrollment-data/report-highlights/index.html

73,355,220 individuals were enrolled in Medicaid and CHIP in the 51 states reporting June 2018 data. 66,861,199 individuals were enrolled in Medicaid and 6,494,021 individuals were enrolled in CHIP (please see contextual information below regarding CHIP enrollment). More than 15.7 million additional individuals were enrolled in Medicaid and CHIP in June 2018 as compared to the period prior to the start of the first Marketplace open enrollment period (July – Sept. 2013), in the 49 states that reported relevant data for both periods, representing Nearly a 28 percent increase over the baseline period. (Connecticut and Maine aren’t included because they did not report data for both periods).

It’s all VAST increases to Medicaid!!!

      5. Well, why hasn’t the GOP offered up a repeal since the orange one was elected? After all, didn’t they vote on Obamacare repeal around 60 times when Barack was in office?

Why? Because they know Trump would sign it and Obama would veto it. It’s all a big show by two parties that are the same but for a couple of issues that don’t change the swamp’s direction. They don’t want a repeal since they are bought by the insurance lobby that wrote the ACA.

DC is a cesspool of graft and corruption. You can’t believe a word they say. Get back to work, slave.

        “Out of many, one.”

Is that collectivism or what? What’s that in Latin…”E Pluribus Unum”…I remember seeing that somewhere.
Oh yeah, it was the official motto of the US from 1782 until 1956 when it was changed to “In God We Trust”.

Sounds like the US was founded as a collectivist state.

      6. JRS,Obamacare repeal was put up for repeal. Passed in the House. However,in the Senate we were stabbes in the back by among others,a now dead senator. It wont be put up for repeal again, because like you saod,D.C. is a cesspool of corruption. Also,Americans are by now, used to this freebie

      7. Healthcare in the US is a huge farce all in service to big pharma. They know little about actual healing techniques but know every drug to be pushed out on sick guinea pigs. Male doctors are quick to tell patients to drop your pants so they can stick their finger up your butt. A big ripoff, that’s why few can afford the bilking. Greed driven healthcare is no healthcare.

        • aljamo – even more than that. I use this method of making people understand about our so-called ‘modern’ healthcare system. Ask a doctor today his/her opinion on medicine and medical procedures a 100+ years ago. I’d dare say they’d all respond more or less that “they didn’t know we what know today” or “just wrong on so many levels”; maybe even worse, “barbaric, savage, cruel, inhumane…” or some other descriptor. I then ask, “okay, then what do you think doctors a 100+ years from now are going to have to say about doctors like you today?”. “wanna bet it is going to be much the same thing?”. It goes way beyond just corporate interests and control of the system we now have. Truthfully, it is woeful ignorance and a self-convinced sense of superiority of the very practitioners of medicine.

      8. In the old days, based on Bates Physical Examination which is the gold standard in allopathic and osteopathic medicine, it REQUIRES 45 minutes to do an ideal physical examination, but an excellent classically trained family practice doc can do it in 30 minutes.

There is literally no way a physician can spend three minutes of hands on troubleshooting and examination to determine potential health issues.

This is basic science and clinical medicine. If you disbelieve me, ask any educator at a medical school.

Most likely we could offer a yearly physical AND require exercise, low body mass index, and PROOF of therapeutic drug levels for chronic medical issues like high blood pressure and vastly REDUCE medical expenditures.

However, it would be drastic that it would SHOCK average Americans but be extremely frugal to enact.

But 70-80% of these chronic patients refuse to routinely take their medicines in order to achieve this therapeutic drug level so pharmacology will never work effectively. And that translates to a decline in health.

        • Using this methodology and ordering standard tests based upon…
          1. Relevant patient history
          2. Reviewing family history of disorders and pathologies until DNA testing is inexpensive and genomics which looks at DNA and pharmacology to determine the ideal drug to treat conditions.
          3. Unusual exposure to mutagens

Then physicians would have an OUTSTANDING chance of early detection and the most beneficial treatment…but only if you get compliance with patient’s actually taking their meds as prescribed.

Additionally, there is no clincal evidence that mental illness can be successfully treated NOR detected by any scientific evidence medicine. Do you realize this? A doc has no test to determine depresssion, for example. There is no evidence it exists. If you studied just how nonsensical mental health treatment has been, it is full of barbaric practices. Even the pharmacology is absurd as there is zero evidence of efficacy for medium or long term. And there is zero evidence of the efficacy of group or indvidual therapy through counseling. The only limited evidence exists for short term “situational” depression being treated with antidepressants.

However, until about 1984 or so, homosexuality was considered a mental illness as was gender dysmorphic disorder ie would be transexuals. Yet two studies point to worse long term health effects from encouraging patients through multiple modalities! I don’t know about you, but the Hippocratic Oath says “Do no harm…”.

It’s been proposed that all patients who presume they have a newly acquired illness OR a chronic one should keep a medical journal which the physician would examine to detect clues to vastly reduce troubleshooting time. I honestly do not understand why all patients don’t do this. It’s sort of like standard troubleshooting by technicians in industry as well as what vehicle owners routinely kept as documentation.

A doc sees you for 30-45 minutes ideally in a total physical exam, but only you see your health issues every single day. A patient with a strange issue or a persistent one could log the details, along with comments by a spouse or caregiver, and then as a TEAM find a solution. Why? Because a pattern emerges and that is the gold standard for all troubleshooting.

On a national level, medical informatics is a similar idea where statistics could show the most likely endemic issues and that could point to systemic issues with say…water pollution, cultural issues, stds, the greatest efficacy of treatment, and why.

      9. The estimated amount of patients that a family practice physician can potentially see (albeit with ridiculous near impossible workloads) is 2300 patients.

Let’s presume that these 20 million newly insured by Obamacare all needed new staff. That would equal at LEAST 8,696 new physicians. Now it takes a minimum of 4 years of college. 4 years of medical school. And it takes at least 3 years of residency. So immediately you would need at least that much time . Let’s presume a medical class size of 120. Then you have retirements and people leaving for economic and personal and occupational reasons as attrition. So America would ABSOLUTELY REQUIRE 72 new medical schools. The existing ones have no way to expand without damaging current education for ones in the process.

But Obamacare did zilch to address this.

      10. You know why Obunglers ears are so big?
Michael needs something to hold on to when he’s getting butt slammed.

      11. Well, if Dr. Peck defined evil as “that which destroys”, this requirement was/is definitely destructive or evil.

        Evil is as evil does.

Truth, on the other hand, points out evil and assists in defusing it, as does not cooperating with it.

“Truth never damages a cause that is just”, said Gandhi. How right he was.

He also said, “Truth needs to be repeated as long as there are men who disbelieve it.”

        Amen!

“One man [person] who speaks the truth constitutes a majority of one.” – Henry David Thoreau

      12. No physician can actually do anything to heal you unless the patient themselves takes responsibility. And unless you take your medicine religiously, it will have a less than therapeutic dose so it won’t work.

A physician cannot make you drink adequate clean water.
A physician cannot make you get adequate sleep.
A physician cannot make you exercise.
A physician cannot make you eat right.
A physician cannot make you avoid alcohol and recreational drugs.
A physician cannot make you avoid risky sex.
A physician cannot make you have good healthy positive coping skills.
A physicial cannot heal mental illness.

No physician can troubleshoot illness in 5 minutes.

Call any craftsman to yourhome to diagnose a problem. Chances are they need at least 30 minutes of troubleshooting time and then at least 30 minutes to replace the problem and then additional time getting the parts.

You are not a machine. You are a unique biological-chemical organism. There are no replacement parts. You are not like anyone else even though you mightbe able to get a kidney transplant from a brother.

I think post1990, people have peculiar unrealistic ideas about what a physician is supposed to accomplish in five minutes of time under managed care.

By the way, imagine you are a pharmaceutical company. 95% of your investment ends up having no profit potential. The other 5% has a short lifespan due to generic drug laws. This gives about a seven year window to make a profit.

You have weird expectations…that you would never apply to Porsche or Google or Microsoft.
