This article was graciously contributed by the very prolific Michael Snyder, and originally published at his End of the American Dream blog.

Editor’s Note: Preppers have long known that disturbances to the New Madrid fault line are all too possible and perhaps all but inevitable. The federal government knows it – that’s why FEMA has devoted a great deal of its emergency planning and resources to this contingency. Deep underground emergency bunkers have been prepared in the Missouri Ozarks and other locations, in part to deal with this crisis. But all that may not be enough to even matter.

As Michael Snyder points out, any significant earthquake in the New Madrid region would be beyond devastating… it could literally tear the country apart and create such widespread disaster that no official aid could save the masses. Worse, the powers that be know that fracking and oil exploration is now creating man made earthquakes in the heartland of the country – where seismic activity has been minimal, it is now frequent and in some cases growing in scale. If natural forces or man made activity goes too far, it could trigger the worst disaster ever seen in this country by far – a true “continent changing event.”

The New Madrid Earthquake That Will Divide The United States In Half

    By Michael Snyder

Once upon a time, North America almost divided along a very deep subsurface rift.  Today, that rift system and the faults associated with it are known as the New Madrid fault zone.  This fault zone is six times larger than the San Andreas fault zone in California and it covers portions of Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Arkansas, Kentucky, Tennessee and Mississippi.  Back in 1811 and 1812, four of the largest earthquakes in U.S. history struck that area of the country.  The movement of the ground was so powerful that it changed the course of the Mississippi River and it rang church bells in Boston, Massachusetts.  So could such an earthquake (or worse) strike today?  Well, last year the U.S. Geological Survey released a report that warned that the New Madrid fault zone has the “potential for larger and more powerful quakes than previously thought“, and the USGS also admits that the number of significant earthquakes in the middle part of the country has more than quintupled in recent years.  We also know that the U.S. government and large corporations are so concerned about the potential for a major New Madrid earthquake that they have held major exercises that simulate one.  Scientists tell us that it is just a matter of time until another superquake hits the region, and personally I am one of the millions of Americans that believe that we will eventually see a New Madrid earthquake that will divide the United States in half.  That is one of the reasons why I included a New Madrid earthquake in my novel.  But others are skeptical.  They point out that we have not seen a truly devastating earthquake in that region for more than 200 years.  So why be concerned about one now?

What everyone can agree on is that there is an area of significant geological weakness under the New Madrid fault zone.  This area of weakness formed when the continents were breaking up.  The rift that formed did not end up splitting the North American continent at that time, but the area of weakness remains.  The following comes from Wikipedia

The faults responsible for the New Madrid Seismic Zone are embedded in a subsurface geological feature known as the Reelfoot Rift that formed during the breakup of the supercontinent Rodinia in the Neoproterozoic Era (about 750 million years ago). The resulting rift system failed to split the continent, but has remained as an aulacogen (a scar or zone of weakness) deep underground, and its ancient faults appear to have made the Earth’s crust in the New Madrid area mechanically weaker than much of the rest of North America.

This relative weakness is important, because it would allow the relatively small east-west compressive forces associated with the continuing continental drift of the North American plate to reactivate old faults around New Madrid, making the area unusually prone to earthquakes in spite of it being far from the nearest tectonic plate boundary.

And indeed, there have been some awesome earthquakes in this region throughout history.

Back in 1811 and 1812, there were four earthquakes along the New Madrid fault zone there were so immensely powerful that they are still talked about today.

Those earthquakes opened deep fissures in the ground, caused the Mississippi River to run backwards, and were reportedly felt more than 1,000 miles away.  It is said that the stench of fire and brimstone hung in the air for months afterwards.

The most powerful of this series of quakes was on December 16th, 1811.  The following is one description of what happened on that day…

This powerful earthquake was felt widely over the entire eastern United States. People were awakened by the shaking in New York City, Washington, D.C., and Charleston, S.C. Perceptible ground shaking was in the range of one to three minutes depending upon the observer’s location. The ground motions were described as “most alarming and frightening” in places like Nashville, Tenn., and Louisville, Ky. Reports also describe houses and other structures being severely shaken, with many chimneys knocked down. In the epicentral area the ground surface was described as being in great convulsion, with sand and water ejected tens of feet into the air — a process called liquefaction.

But there have also been others times throughout history when we have seen a major earthquake along the New Madrid fault.

For example, according to scientists there is evidence of other superquakes in the distant past

Geological evidence indicates that two such super-earthquakes happened twice in the past 1,200 years: the first some time between 800 and 1000 A.D., and the second between 1300 and 1600 A.D.

And now earthquake activity in the central portion of the nation is increasing again.

As I noted above, the USGS says that the frequency of earthquakes in the central and eastern portions of the United States has more than quintupled in recent years.  And the USGS has now gone so far as to point out the relationship between human activity and the increase in earthquakes.  The following comes from an article done by the U.S. Geological Survey

The number of earthquakes has increased dramatically over the past few years within the central and eastern United States. Nearly 450 earthquakes magnitude 3.0 and larger occurred in the four years from 2010-2013, over 100 per year on average, compared with an average rate of 20 earthquakes per year observed from 1970-2000.

This increase in earthquakes prompts two important questions: Are they natural, or man-made? And what should be done in the future as we address the causes and consequences of these events to reduce associated risks? USGS scientists have been analyzing the changes in the rate of earthquakes as well as the likely causes, and they have some answers.

USGS scientists have found that at some locations the increase in seismicity coincides with the injection of wastewater in deep disposal wells. Much of this wastewater is a byproduct of oil and gas production and is routinely disposed of by injection into wells specifically designed for this purpose.

So what would happen if a major earthquake did strike the New Madrid fault zone?

This is something that scientists have studied.  If a magnitude 7.7 earthquake hit the region today, thousands would die, hundreds of thousands of buildings would be damaged, and the economic losses would be measured in the hundreds of billions of dollars.  The following comes from Wikipedia

In October 2009, a team composed of University of Illinois and Virginia Tech researchers headed by Amr S. Elnashai, funded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), considered a scenario where all three segments of the New Madrid fault ruptured simultaneously with a total earthquake magnitude of 7.7. The report found that there would be significant damage in the eight states studied – Alabama, Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri and Tennessee – with the probability of additional damage in states farther from the NMSZ. Tennessee, Arkansas, and Missouri would be most severely impacted, and the cities of Memphis, Tennessee and St. Louis, Missouri would be severely damaged. The report estimated 86,000 casualties, including 3,500 fatalities; 715,000 damaged buildings; and 7.2 million people displaced, with 2 million of those seeking shelter, primarily due to the lack of utility services. Direct economic losses, according to the report, would be at least $300 billion.

But remember, that study only considered a magnitude 7.7 earthquake.

If we had an earthquake of magnitude 8 or magnitude 9, we could be talking about an earthquake many, many times more powerful.

It is also important to note that there are 15 nuclear reactors along the New Madrid fault zone.  In the event of a major New Madrid earthquake, we could be looking at Fukushima times 15.

Of course most Americans are completely oblivious to all of this.  In fact, most Americans don’t even know what the New Madrid fault zone is or where it is located.

But there are people in the government that are very aware of this threat.  In fact, the federal government considered it important enough to hold a major five day simulation known as “National Level Exercise 11″ just a few years ago…

In May, the federal government simulated an earthquake so massive, it killed 100,000 Midwesterners instantly, and forced more than 7 million people out of their homes. At the time, National Level Exercise 11 went largely unnoticed; the scenario seemed too far-fetched — states like Illinois and Missouri are in the middle of a tectonic plate, not at the edge of one. A major quake happens there once every several generations.

National Level Exercise 11, or NLE 11, was, in essence, a replay of a disaster that happened 200 years earlier. On Dec. 16, 1811, a magnitude 7.7 earthquake hit the New Madrid fault line, which lies on the border region of Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Arkansas, Kentucky, Tennessee and Mississippi. It’s by far the largest earthquake ever to strike the United States east of the Rockies. Up to 129,000 square kilometers [50,000 square miles] were hit with “raised or sunken lands, fissures, sinks, sand blows, and large landslides,” according to the U.S. Geological Service. “Huge waves on the Mississippi River overwhelmed many boats and washed others high onto the shore. High banks caved and collapsed into the river; sand bars and points of islands gave way; whole islands disappeared.” People as far away as New York City were awakened by the shaking.

More quakes, of a similar size, followed. But the loss of life was minimal: Not too many people lived in the area at the time. Today, there are more than 15 million people living in the quake zone. If a similar quake hit, “7.2 million people could be displaced, with 2 million seeking temporary shelter” in the first three days, FEMA Associate Adminsitrator William Carwile told a Congressional panel in 2010. “Direct economic losses for the eight states could total nearly $300 billion, while indirect losses at least twice that amount.”

And major corporations are also concerned about what could happen.

For example, in a previous article I noted that Wal-Mart had “participated in an exercise” that simulated a major earthquake in the New Madrid fault zone…

Buried in a Wall Street Journal article from about a week ago was a startling piece of information.  According to a Wal-Mart executive, Wal-Mart “participated in an exercise to prepare for an earthquake on the New Madrid fault line” earlier this summer.

Nobody knows when it is going to happen.

But this is a real threat.

And if we do see a magnitude 9.0 earthquake or greater, we could be talking about a continent changing event.

            6 Events 4+ mag.

Lots of rattling going on on the Oklahoma – Kansas border north of Oklahoma city.

            • I was hoping to hear from BeInformed on this one…

            • Look up North American Craton. You will see all the activity going on around its edges. This is just Continental Plates moving around.

              • Not a thing can be done to stop it so except for doing some prepping why worry about it. Matthew Brakken did a good novel on this event and it’s aftermath.

        • Calling commenter “Be Informed.” Are you alive? If so, your thoughts and comments would be most welcome on this comment string.

          • FS, I would also welcome Be Informed’s expert analysis right now. I hope he’s OK wherever he is. OK, everyone, I can speak with some authority on this subject. I live in Memphis, which could very well be destroyed by such a quake. My home is only a one-hour drive from that fault. I do have a plan to bugout to family in the mountains of north GA when the time comes. I’ve had that arrangement in place for almost 2 years and have made several trips there to move my supplies into a storage building on my cousin’s land where I’ll be living. We’ll probably experience some shaking there and maybe there will be some damage, but our chances of survival there will be much better than being close to the fault. People who live in the immediate area of the fault will be the first ones to suffer. The Memphis area has almost 1,000,000 people in it and I estimate around 100,000 casualties if not more in that area ALONE. Memphis is more significant than most people realize. It is a major distribution center. 2 of the major interstate highways, I-40 and I-55, run through here and both run across the mighty mississip. Several railroads run through here in all directions and 3 of those also go across the river. IF COMMERCE IS DISRUPTED BY AN EARTHQUAKE HERE, IT COULD WRECK WHAT IS LEFT OF THE US ECONOMY. If the bridges over the river come down, all river traffic from the north of us would be halted. All traffic would have to be re-routed to any other bridges that MIGHT still be standing when the dust settles. I’ve seen the old US Navy map online showing how the continent would allegedly be divided in the aftermath of a New Madrid quake. I say ‘allegedly’ because I’m skeptical of that part, but I DON’T doubt such an event will be devastating for the region if not the entire nation. I’m hoping to be in GA long before it hits. Nobody knows when it’s coming but I’m convinced it will take place. I’d love to think it won’t happen in my lifetime but I’m not holding my breath on it or anything else.

            • Swell, just what we need one humongous ass crack running through the country from stem to stern. It still couldn’t touch the size of the gargantuan ass crack that runs DC INC.

              • Damn! You mean we could be rid of that many liberals in one swift movement? Maybe all conservatives should keep to the west, while the liberals stay to the east — just in case. 🙂

              • I can’t help but think jade helm 15 has something to do with these maps you linked.. And comparing their map to these…..

            • and you’re the same flaming idiot who says ” boocoo” problems would be solved by nuking Chicago, LA, New York, an DC, without a thought in your head,{ normal behavior for you} that wouldn’t be any kind of disruption to the economy. Jesus Christ in a sidecar, you’re a SPECIAL kind of stupid aren’t you?

              • How could wiping out one of our worst ghettos, be a disruption to the economy? The only economy it would disrupt, is the FSA.

                • If that is supposed to be some kind of intelligent response to my above comment to maverick, than I must assume you’re as equally mentally challenged as he is, he says nuking 4 major cities across the country would solve ” boocoo” problems but if Memphis gets hit by an earthquake the whole economy goes down the tubes? Anybody who’s capable of following that type of logic as being intelligent is way too far beyond stupid to waste any attempt to reason with, hopefully these major league low IQ buffoons will be weeded out when the shtf for real.

                  • Sorry you don’t recognize a dry sense of humor when you read one. OF COURSE I DON’T WANT TO SEE ANY NUKES FLY. If I did, it would be aimed at Washington DC.

                    • recognize a dry sense of humor? You just repeated your own previous comment for Christ’s sake! Sorry you need to take English comprehension classes.

            • You are very wise to have done what you did. But a couple questions: How will you be in place prior to the possible event? Are you planning to move permanently?

I have seen those supposed US Navy maps. Very sobering as drawn, but based on WHAT? And probably as spurious as they are sobering. I’m not losing sleep over those maps.

          • I hope he answers, he’s been working on a project….

          • I miss “Be Informed” You have my plea of commenting again..

          • I would also like to hear Be Informed’s take on this. Miss his posts…

          • And wiping Saint Louis and Memphis off the map…. bonus two million less welfare recipients and a marked reduction in gang activity. Booohahahahaha….

        • I believe it was 5 years ago that we had a 5.7 in Virginia. It was close to North Anna Nuclear Power Station. Since I work in the power industry here I got to learn some interesting information.
First and foremost the backup emergency systems did what they were supposed too. With the exception of one emergency turbine. There are several back ups so it was not a problem. The unit tripped off line due to high vibration caused by the earthquake. Everything went as designed.

Now the scary part. The unit stayed offline for almost a year as many inspections were done and damage was repaired. In the process I found out that North Anna was designed to withstand a 6.2 Earthquake. We were so close to a severe problem. No one even realizes how close we came that day. Also the ground is different on the east coast compared to the west coast. The earthquakes can be felt in a much larger area. We may be living on borrowed time regarding this problem.
As a kid I only felt one quake and it was a 2.3 in this area. Since the age of 32 I have felt 5 or six. Most are in the 2 to 3 range with the exception of the 5.7. There have been several reported that I did not feel. I don’t know what is going on with our planet but things are changing.

This is a real threat that all should consider. I wish Be Informed was here to comment on this.

        • 15 reactors on this fault line, 5 reactors at Fukushima~ thus 15 times as bad.
Surely a product of the pubic skool system.

Bad? sure IF it happens. How about a meteor impact on NYC? Or a 1,000 ft Tsunami? no-no a 10,000 ft. one? How about a volcano eruption right under YOUR house?? Point made yet?
How about we focus, just for a little while on problems we REALLY DO HAVE? Please? Just this once?

PS- I live in earthquake country, they’re not that big a deal, until you hit 8.5 or bigger. Slept through 6’s watched the lights sway in a 6.5. a 7.7 (12 times worse than a 6.5) would break some glass etc. Depends on how close, how deep, how much tectonic uplift and where. Since it’s a “rift” They’re seperating (a divergent zone)? The article didn’t say. Or is one rising an one dropping? Facts would be very helpful to picture the effects.

      2. Boy, it just keeps getting better and better. The last days are upon us.

        • A New Madrid quake could split the US in half. Problem solve conservaturds on one side and libtards on the other. When their finished killing each other us libertarians can finally live free as founded. Wishful thinking I know.

          • Maddog, Memphis has its share of libturds and conservaturds. People from both groups will die.

            • No Maverick, if most people take a honest look at themselves they’d realize they are libertarians. Its their government that is no different between the two.

              • @maddog

NO, if most so called freedom loving conservative republicans took an honest look at themselves they’d realize they were big govt fascist liberals, that just support some gun rights. Few people really understand what liberty is anymore

          • I was hoping it would split the west coast and north east off. Then we would be good to go for a little while.

I wonder how long it would take both regions to try to invade us to get there hands on our new prosperity and freedom?

            • It would be better for all, if all three parts could begin trade routes with each other. Grain, beef, pork and other midwestern specialties, for sea foods and other coastal specialties, as well as imports.

Why should we let a little geography get in the way?

          • Jeez, I’m gonna have to move west then but then there’s a dilemma. There are liberals in California and a few other places.

          • I won’t say nuthin about libertarturdtards (actually, I have a lot of respect for libertarianism, and am partially libertarian, partially conservative) I just think namecalling is not needed (and my comment is just meant to be humourous, BTW).

Let’s not do that internecine battle thing, OK?

        • I’d rather go down in history as dying out as a result of a natural disaster, like the dinosaurs, rather than as a result of a sentient species who nuked ourselves out of existence through our own stupidity.

      3. People should look at a you tube video I happened upon about a girls dream, her name is Carolyn Kauffman and she had this dream back in Aug.2014

        • Thanks for the info, Sara..

        • I just watched her video
She says the start date is Marc 10th and it goes on until sometime in April
Guess we will see soon if she’s just another false prophet of doom
I’m not leaning either way or discounting her “dream”
          Lord knows shit happens
When your spinning around like we are on the third rock from the sun shit can come undone quickly
I pray her dream was just a dream , or a mind game played on her
The brain is a complex and little understood part of the human anatomy
Let’s just hope that’s all this is

          • EOTS, never trust anyone who sets any kind of date for anything. Someday it will happen but just don’t know when.

          • @Old Nam Vet

Another Old Nam Vet here…..But….From just looking at her and the sound of her voice…….I would go out on a limb here and say ” She needs to get her Meds Adjusted !!! ” …Just saying

            • To me she looks sad as if the knowledge that disaster is coming and there is nothing she can do about it.I thought at first she was a little kooky but not all of us are very good at doing videos. So I’m giving her the benefit of the doubt and preparing for the possibility she is right. Peace

        • @sara

so some girl you don’t know had a earthquake dream……

I don’t think I’d stop paying the mortgage and car payments just yet……. Maybe it will happen, maybe it won’t but I would suggest you keep your faith in God and not be putting too much into a strangers dream. I remember I happened on to a lady’s video on youtube where she’d had a dream America was fixin to be nuked 3 times, it was actually very eery and she had “supernatural” things apparently happen to back it all up….well that was like 3 years ago. So my advice is to not be counting down the days like a kid waiting for some apocalyptic Christmas, it can actually be quite unhealthy. May the good Lord bless you and us all, Lord knows we’re gonna need it.

      4. You have the New Madrid fault, Yellowstone, possible economic collapse, possible WW3, big blast on the back side of the sun a little while ago. It is certain you can’t predict what is going to happen and where you will be able to bug out to. The only thing for certain is stay away from the big cities.

        • Three SHTF destruction images in a single day. Mac is outdoing his self.

We’re all doomed, personally I’d prefer a quick, painful,
heart attack rather than all these possibilities.

One thing for sure, there is only one way we will leave this world..

          • yup, we are all going to die tomorrow or live through an apocalyptic event that will be hell on earth.
Oh wait that was yesterday, I mean the day before. What am I thinking, I mean last week, or is it last month. How about back in 2008 when bo was elected?

Nope, we are still here, and some of us are thriving. Will things get worse some day….yup! Will things possibly collapse or crash…probably, someday.

            • “Mac,
Why don’t you drive towards actual wise preparedness in a responsible way instead of the fear porn doom and gloom crap all the time?”

Sadly, I have to agree. I read this blog more for entertainment lately. It’s slowly morphed from “planning for SHTF” to “you’re all screwed…markets will collapse soon, nuclear war soon, sun will vomit at us soon, government takeover…BUT hedge and protect yourself by buying GOLD from our partner links”.

              • We will be expanding our preparedness section in the very near future and are going to try to make this material more accessible. There has been a ton of stuff posted to this site over the years, unfortunately our site architecture is such that it is difficult to access. More coming soon, including new material from various preparedness partner sites we will be working with.

                P

                • I would say though, it is the fear porn that gets many addicted to preparedness, so hey why not? 🙂

                  • As I said, plenty of prep/ways to prep sites listed here on home along with good forum ideas though more real prep articles would be welcome,we have plenty of man made/natural reasons to prep.

                  • We were a .5 in strength of earthquake away from a major disaster 5 years ago. I don’t consider this fear porn. It is a very serious threat.

                    • Sometimes it is all in how it is presented and how often that puts it in the fear porn category.

                • Looking forward to it, Mac. I’ve been coming to your blog for quite a while and enjoy the content. It just seems the subject matter over the past 6 months has drastically changed to more dramatic, doom and gloom topics compared to previous years. It’s your website, so you can post as you like, but the preparedness articles were what brought me here in the first place.

                  • Tex, thanks for your feedback and I agree — While i think it is critical to keep people informed, we do lack some of the actionable content that used to get posted here. We’re gonna try to make that happen again!

                    thanks,

                    Mac

                    • Mac;
My comments went into moderation a couple of months and nothing has changed. Whats up? Would be nice to be able to respond same day.

                    • Skeptic I will look into this tomorrow
                      Thx

                      Mac

                • With better access and awareness of it’s existence, the need for repetition of certain information would be bridged. We wouldn’t need to repeat ourselves so often, if some of the best old stuff was available for our reading pleasure. I like that idea…chop chop, get a hitch in yer gitalong, please.

          • “quick, painful,heart attack”

If you VFib quickly its not too painful.

            • Anybody who’s afraid of death hasn’t really lived a worthy life … The end is just as important as the beginning… Learn from your elders the regrets of facing death cold in the face… You’ll do well to pay attention to their wise words. LIVE YOUR LIFE WELL.

              • I don’t fear death but I do fear what happens to my loved ones after I am gone. I know that I should have more faith than that. God will provide.

                • God is LOVE. He won’t let them or you down. PEACE2U xXx

                  • Tell that to all the Jesus Loving Christians being killed in the middle east right now. God doesn’t promise us an easy road, just a great place at the end.

        • I live in central Montana and if Yellow Stone erupts, bugging out will not do me a lick of good, considering I would be burnt crisp within about 10 minutes, or suffocate on ash. Anyways, all anything is anymore is to keep people on their toes. While all you people worry about another false flag event, I will live how I usually do, which is prepare for WW3 and blend into the back ground. Ps the 17HMR does wonders to the gopher population, also anyone know if 1967 327 stock exhaust manifolds are worth anything? I have a set and was just curious.

          • Yep those exhaust manifolds are worth something to someone building or restoring a 327 in a Chevy of that year with that engine in it
Especially if they are the ones that look like two humps and center dump for both sides
Lots of hot rodders and traditional hot rod builders would like to own them
Giving you a price would be hard to do
It’s all up to the two involved in the transaction
I would never throw them away
I’m not talking huge bucks , but enough to buy some ammo or preps
            Can’t eat cast iron

            • Just looked up a few pairs going from $40 to as much as $100
Probably the 100$ set are for the corvette 327 of that year if I had to take a guess
The truck ones are not that popular , unless someone is picky about restoring a pickup and making it as stock as possible
That’s kinda why I mentioned above : it’s between the guy that wants them and the guy that’s selling them

              Good luck

            • Enemy;
The 2.02 heads had double humps. Didn’t know the exhaust manifolds did as well.

          • Craigslist em

          • there called rams horns the 67 turn back at the bottom and are for two inch exhaust. about $35 each the valuable ones are 62 thru 66 straight down outlets with 2 1/2 inch exhaust pipe. worth about $75 each. they are repoped you can buy new ones.

          • …if you’ve got a ’67 Impala, they’d be worth plenty.

After I spewed lifter guts (little springs and ball bearings) all over in my intake manifold, I pulled the blown Pontiac 350 out of my Firebird esprit, and dropped a 327 in it. After a little tweaking, it improved the performance a lot. The 327 is a more solid engine IMO.

            • EDIT/TYPO: “in my intake manifold” was from a deleted sentence. should read “all over inside the engine.”

          • Johnny;
Funny timing. I just ordered a set of rams horn manifolds to replace a set of headers on a vehicle this am. If they are 2.5 in outlets you should get about 50 to 60 bucks on ebay.

      5. “…Reelfoot Rift that formed during the breakup of the supercontinent Rodinia…”

Didn’t you mean the supercontinent AlGore, which was broken up by all that faux global warming, like we are having this winter????

      6. Shake it baby shake. A whole lot of shaking going on.

        • Dat ole’ cool hand luke’s a natural born world shaker!

      7. Overnight the USA would become a third world nation and join other fallen empires and become as dust in the wind.

Let us hope this never happens…..

        • WandW…The USA is already a third world nation.Where the hell have you been.

          • Its certainly governed by a two bit, third world dictator. 🙂

        • Dust in the wind-originally by the group Kansas but here is Sarah Brightmans version. This is good stuff. Peace

          • a link to Sarah brightman=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QE2gWCUP1fM&feature=player_embedded

      8. I live less than a hour from the fault in NW TN not to concerned but if happens I will be selling 5ac tracks of water front property just little humor

        • Swampratt, what part of NW TN? I’m down in Memphis.

      9. The earthquakes i can live with and deal with,
Its man and his bullshit that will suck,
        The aftermath,
Is one time i am much more grateful i live where i live,
Pity the poor bastards who live anywhere near the nuke plants, or big cities.

      10. Luckily,Im in Arizona. Prep fest in Tucson next week.

        • Tucson is the best place to be in all of North America. 🙂

          • DK;
I too like Tucson. In the event of war the air base and Rathyeon might be a little troubling. Pardon my spelling of Rathyeon. Too lazy to look it up.

      11. Had a small shaking they called a quake last month. I laughed because I was sleeping and felt nothing quakes are like a burp around here nothing to worry about. I guess it’s totally possible shit anything is these days. I was hiking of picking up a Halligan tool the fire men use it for emergency entry into wrecked cars and burning houses. They have them on amazon. $200 plus for it rugged piece of gear. Another good thing to have is the off-road jack the jeep enthusiasts carry. It could be used to get debris off people who are buried these are rescue tools so if there were a shaker and the destruction was bad I’m sure folks would need rescue. A come along is good they sell them at harbor freight tools. Cheap option.

        • Ass,good ideas except cheap come along, they worth spending the money on!Don’t get me wrong, some tools harbor freight sells actually ok,but a come along, want a quality one.For emergency lifting a floor jack and right size say 4×4/6×6 lumber does some great lifting, have used succesfully in heavy rehab work in the past.

          • I knew there was a good reason why I wanted my floor jack.

        • Get the big Smittybuilt jack from 4wheel parts
Cheaper and beefier than the high lift, got both smitty is smoother

        • Well done Ass hat… Good to see that people out there such as yourself are planning for a hit. We cannot rest on our laurels. Earthquakes rock! Be prepared.

        • A good winch is a good prep IMO.

      12. Yep FEMA will be right there with three hots an a cot. Don’t forget the free bottle water . Free bus rides to the nearest camp. And it begins. They’ve trained for this . Trust them they’re with the government. One way or another it hits the fan. Not a fan of the nukes! But at that time wind an elevation will have new meanings.

        • seen first hand the ineffective SEMA responding to the ice storm a few years ago here in S.E Mo. what a cluster. had tractor trailors of generators but they did not bring any gas with them, couldnt even get any brought in 3-4 days later. Seen the plans to the response by FEMA if a large quake hits New Madrid. What another cluster. They are expecting to cross all of the creeks and rivers with bridges that wouldnt be there. Missourians we will be on our own completly.

          • That sounds just like the FEMA we all know and love (to hate).

      13. I certainly hope you all know this is just part of the greater cycle…

        Earthquakes, floods, famine….pestilences…
It’s all in the good book and every account in every civilization recorded.

TPTB know that we are in that time frame and they’re scared…

So they keep us distracted with every sick twist their truly sick little minds can conceive…

I pray their bunkers are filled with hot lava…

Be prepared to stop this vid many times…
        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4izkPDASG7U#t=14

        • Well said monkeywrench. Peace.

        • There ain’t no amount of carbon tax that will ever stop that.

      14. Looking at the map. It looks like MY BOL2 is very close to the red area.
Where I’m at now we will feel it.
But I think this might happen when the CUBS win the World Series.
        Sgt.

        • Easy Sgt, this rift valley has earthquakes every few HUNDRED years, the Cubs winning is a whole different issue.

          • I guess this means that someday, hell could literally freeze over…

          • OK, I feel better now. Cubs win only once every 1,000 years.

        • We have relatives in NE Ga in the MTS and they are fairly close to this, I think. I fairly certain it will move things in The Dahlonega GA area approx 85 miles NE of Atlanta. Peace

        • Ha Ha! This year fer sure!!
On the upside I could be real close to the Gulf Coast. Come on down, we’ll go fishin’.

      15. When the New Madrid go’s more than likely the San Andreas will also go from the push of the New Madrid. Yellowstone, New Madrid, and the San Andreas are the 3 main wild cards in all of this here in the U. S. that the NWO can not control.

        • BI and I agreed the Cascadia and san andreas will let go first. they are the lock that holds the new Madrid together. we have a compressing pacific and a expanding atlantic. the st Lawrence seaway will pour into the great lakes and the great lakes into the Mississippi. the whole delta from southern Ill to the gulf will flood with 100 ft high waves liquefy and become a 200 mile wide swamp with a waterway in the middle. almost all who are caught there will perish. its being caused by the magnetic pole shift. I live about 200 miles west of new Madrid in the Ozarks. I will be able to travel about 100 miles to the great American swamp. look at the Us navy future map of the USA. actually I hope to see it. It should be a great adventure.

          • Now you have me thinking where I’m at in western Wisconsin, right on the bluffs would slide into the Mississippi valley if the Madrid goes. arghh… Time to find a new place, even my wife is thinking of a new location and safer…

          • Ummmm… Lake Michigan is almost 600 feet above sea level whereas the St. Lawrence – at least as it gets to the Montreal/Quebec City area, is pretty much sea level.

Care to explain how the St Lawrence will empty into the Great Lakes???

      16. Arent a series of smaller rumbles an indication of a big one to follow?

We don’t have that problem here is Aussie – a very old and stable continent/island. We do occasionally get one that sounds like very distant thunder.

Our main problems are economic like yours. We are heading for a debt crisis like the US, although unlike the US ours could still be controlled if TPTB have the guts.

Like you guys I’d like to hear from Be Informed again.

        Aussie

        • Sometimes you get small quakes early. Sometimes you don;t. Volcanoes tend to have them before they go. Some faults are locked tight and don’t. In some places like Ca, It can be hard to tell if it’s a new bunch, or the end of the last one. Large quakes around here (CA) often tend to have hundreds to thousands of smaller after quakes. The Earth does as it chooses and we are just along for the ride.

      17. Just waiting for the shoe to drop. Only thing coming is misery in epic proportions making my final stand from home not gonna run off and be some refugee to try to survive. I have three kids and the wife they would never make it like this. I know my family. For me it’s not all about survival it’s about my dignity and it would take a huge hit if I fled to the bush to survive like a vagrant I would rather fight and die than throw away everything in my life by running. To me standing my ground means something. At least I wasn’t a pushover I’m sure I will be scared as hell if this happens but I feel there is no other choice to stand and fight. It’s not about the house the cars and all the material shit or the preps. When it hits your doorstep you are like a scared animal cornered. At this point I will come out in full attack mode. Till it hits your town it’s all just propaganda.

        • You’re a good husband and father. Hope you and you’re family stay safe. God bless.

      18. Just to be clear I don’t give one shit about any celebrity or goofball like this guy

This is about the context of driving any of these new cars and how they are nothing but narc machines

Bruce Jenner’s speed at the time of his tragic car crash in Malibu earlier this month has been revealed. According to TMZ, the former Olympian and reality star was traveling at 38 miles per hour at the exact time of the crash, though the Sensing Diagnostic Module data recorder in his SUV shows he was traveling between 46 and 47 MPH when he hit the brakes.

        • He was putting on his eye shadow at the time.

      19. Hmmmm….,don’t see NH in the zone, what could possibly go wrong?!Hell, the article says could divide the nation, that as forum folks know was done well over a century ago!

      20. “Hudhaifa b. Usaid Ghifari reported: Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) came to us all of a sudden as we were (busy in a discussion). He said: What do you discuss about? They (the Companions) said. We are discussing about the Last Hour. Thereupon he said: It will not cone until you see ten signs before and (in this connection) he made a mention of the smoke, Dajjal, the beast, the rising of the sun from the west, the descent of Jesus son of Mary (Allah be pleased with him), the Gog and Magog, and land-slidings in three places, one in the east, one in the west and one in Arabia at the end of which fire would burn forth from the Yemen, and would drive people to the place of their assembly.” (Saheeh Muslim, Chapter 13, Book 041, No 6391)

      21. Hey cool,,,
        We gots a redthumbinator again,
        Somebodies panties in a ruffle!

        • Get over yourself old-timer.

      22. I built pipeline equipment for 20 years. All major pipelines go through this area to the North/East. So don’t count on oil or gas flowing if one hits….

      23. Obama has already divided the country in half.

      24. If James Bond (007) were here when it happened he would get his martini the why he like them.
Central Illinois would were I live just might get a good wake up call. Plus it just might be the thing that gets the Cubs a world series ring. (I’m a Cub’s fan).
There are a few things that I can not control and a big quake is one of them. that’s why I have a lot of goodies stashed.
        S.T.S.F.P. N.R. N.S. N.REB

        • Your a real honest to God Cubs fan? WOW!! Could you post a picture so we could see you. Do you give Autographs? Are you a real masochist like Indians fans? Do you like, actually let people you know, know about it?

          • At least Cleveland won 2 pennants back in the nineties, it’s been 70 YEARS since the Cubs won a pennant, and the Indians won their last world series in 1948, which is 66 years ago opposed to the Cubs 106 years ago in 1908. So yeah, Cleveland has their problems for sure, but the Cubs own the all time records for both pennants and world series droughts, and probably will remain in the status forever.

      25. To be serious about this, if it does happen there will be a loss of a lot of lives. Damage not in the billions but in the trillions of dollars.
So pray that it never happens and lives will be spared.
I’m not worries so much about the damage because that can be repaired. Loss of a human can not be replaced by man.
I have family in that red zone. on both sides of the Mississippi river that would be greatly effected by a giant earth quake.
        S.T.S.F.P. N.R. N.S. N.Reb

      26. If…maybe…could…possible…might. Really?

      27. Imagine some family, life savings spent to survive post crash, low wage job replacing the manufacturing employment that was shipped to China and now an earthquake destroying what little they have.

      28. Can you say REVOLUTION. Maybe this is exactly what the doctor ordered to set our nation right. the breaking up of our nation has been discussed since the 1960’s. Two years ago, a russian General wrote a paper about the breaking up of the US. This is not news except for the DHS and FEMA controlled areas which will not happen. Do you possibly think the US could wage a gorilla war against it’s people. I don’t think so. I would wage money that the US would lose hands down. Especially in the political environment we now have. Nope, not gonna happen. You might see the break up occur, but all the regions will not be controlled by the government. The west around Texas, Wyoming, Arizona and the deep South will be under the new Texas or the new Confederacy. Nope , this event will not go to waste. It will be life changing. Most of you think about the Tea party and such people. What you don’t realize is the Mexicans, the black panthers, and every other race group will be fighting for themselves. It will not be the white southerners just fighting against the government. And we haven’t brought in the millions of Muslims and other races who will fight. Everyone will be fighting to carve their piece of the pie. Total anarchy. Anyone thinks that the government will win, I have some beach front land in Florida I would like to sell you cheap.

        • @mike

you say revolution, I say millions of people flocking to the almighty gov’t for help and security and being more than happy to not only give away their rights for it, but also eager to take away yours. You think all these piss weak millenials that so run the world now are gonna all of sudden decide to take the responsibility for their life and safety into their own hands?…..Puh-Leeeez

          • Richard Head.

The best made plans of mice and men, often go astray.
The Government can only project what can happen to an extent what people will do.
Initially people will flock to government for support. As we have seen before, tempers rise as support does not come fast enough for LOCALISED disasters. As time progress’s the government will lose the appearance of benefactor and become the tyrant. No more stuff to Hand out Free. That is when the riots start and then revolution. We as prepper’s think we will do something to start it all, but we won’t. Maybe a Guns Verses Government Dependency Equation is in order. If we make past the shockwave, things will happen quickly. IMO.

        • Mayhem may breakout amongst the ravel but eventually the white people will ultimately take charge of the situation… The cream will always rise to the top.

      29. Us white folks are under attack IMHO. Obummer don’t care about white people. Just like they said George bush don’t care about black people. The birth rates of white children are lower than the minority’s . We are becoming the minority. With the border gate open we are being overrun by people from central and South America. The white peoples voice is being diminished. When I vote not one person I vote for gets in so my vote don’t matter. To me prepping is what I have control over so I have my own agenda that is counter to tptb. It’s my only recourse being one guy. I know most of the people on this board feel the same way about what’s going on out there. We need to have an underground united front. A way to know we are on the same page when the time comes to confront evil. So we aren’t killing eachother not knowing who is part of the resistance. This will keep our humanity knowing we are not alone. I want to keep our heritage intact and our dignity. This land we call home is fought for by our forefathers. We should not turn and run they had the guts to fight and die if need be. They were securing a future for us. We need to continue the legacy. White children deserve it.

        • There’s an awful lot of weak white shits out there that’ll disagree with you on this Ass hat, but I hear what your saying and I agree… The ordinary white folks ain’t worth a shit to these ELITIST TWATS and their yes-men sheeple… Fuckin’ suckers the lot of ’em… I SAY FUCK ‘EM…FUCK ‘EM ALL… Time will tell… If not us then our ancestors will bring about some sort of global peace by might alone. That’s the only outcome true men understand, both black & white… STRENGTH… Then the peace we all yearn will be achived by being hard but fair… Now just watch these fuckin’ fanny-arsed- weak shitbag boys respond with their PC corrective crap or some sly-arse pseudo “intellectual” type with their fuckin’ “I KNOW BETTER THAN YOU” bullshit… Rest assured Ass hat, we’ll win through in the end.

      30. I live near enough to the fault line Its always been known to be a big one when it comes, the first one was a monster in 1700s its not the buildings it will be the exploding gas lines you will see from space and the power plants blowing!!!!!!!

      31. Isn’t Doom and Gloom wonderful?

Can put you on the edge with all the danger these catastrophic events can cause. What you draw from all these articles is what counts. Discount the bad. All my years of preps forced me to learn subjects I would not be interested in otherwise. Doom and Gloom, although disheartening at times, has shed light on questions and given plausible answers. It has made me a “Jack of All Trades” and master of none. Applying skill sets that involve Science, Math, Mechanics, Machining, Finance, Construction, Medical, Politics, Agriculture, Human Behavior, Self Defense and so on.
It teaches us to multi task and that danger can come in many forms and multiple forms at once.

Older Preppers have so much to give but many do not want to listen. There are some things that need Hands On Experience to learn properly.

Would of, Could of, Should of.

        • The one thing i take away from all these doom and gloom articles is that it does at least make me think on the what ifs, makes me work through problems and solutions and take stock of where i am at.
Gotta make lemonade from all those lemons, and lemon butter and fermented lemon peel and……

          • Kula, another option is to throw those lemons in the face of the person who brought them and tell them to get you the coffee you ordered in the first place!

      32. Some skills are worthless to individuals like chemistry how is one without funding gonna use this skill to better his own life. I’d rather be a jack of all practical skills. Older preppers have these type of skills working with wood metal animals automotive basics this type of stuff has saved me $ which I save and put toward preps . Me I love youtube when I want to do something I’ve never done before I look it up and there is someone demonstrating it. I remember before you tube you had to know someone familiar doing willing to help you out or the old trial and error not knowing if you are in over your head. But hey it’s broke anyway whudaya got to lose. My old man built nuclear submarines for 38 years and his technical and welding skills are superb. Can you weld a pipe upside down in a hole using a mirror to see. I can’t weld for beans and never tried to make my own tools to complete a task. Now you are never gonna need to know how to build a submarine but knowing how to work with metals is a nice skill. Myself I’m not a builder but I have built things like sheds closets install doors changing light fixtures and other minor tasks home related. I feel with a few tools like a skill saw some nails hammer tape measure level chalk line square plum line I can build just about any thing I need. I know there are more tools involved at times but I’m not gonna buy tools to use them one time because they are specialty tools. I was gonna buy a shop press but I really can’t see me using it more than once to finish a project. Then never using it again I’m just gonna borrow the use of one even if I have to rent it it makes more sense to me. I have tools I’ve inherited that I’ve never used and never will. So I think having tools that cover the broadest range of scenarios is best

        • I fuckin’ love you’re honesty Ass hat. YOU’RE THE BEST.

        • Perhaps you should rethink about chemistry not being useful. One of the very first things they teach you, is what NOT to mix together…perhaps that knowledge might come in handy one day, when all you have is a bit of bleach and some ammonia…

      33. Pipelines cut all through the midwest. Most bridges over the Mississippi and other rivers collapse. Airport runways cracked. Highways cracked. Water mains cracked. Fires everywhere. Electricity off for weeks or more. Barge traffic on the Big Muddy stopped for months. Looting up the wazoo. Shooting looters up the wazoo. This is fun.

        • @the prophet

I think you’ve been watching too many movies. While not trying to make assumptions about you, I’ve always figured all these so called preppers that think any of this “stuff” they prepare for is going to be FUN, are the same ones that will likely freeze, shit themselves, and then call the police if or when things get bad.

          • …or end up slaughtering entire families, who just wanted to shelter in a shed for the night, etc. I feel sorry for any person who thinks it will be ‘fun’ to kill people. I don’t want their kind in my AO, that’s for damn sure.

          • RH, call the police? We ARE the police.

        • …. and THAT is just outside of Ferguson. Hate to be inside Ferguson after that.

Of course, according the the leftist fascists, earthquakes ARE a result of racism and colonialism

      34. Will it be Hunger or Tyranny that drives us to revolution?

        • I think hunger from tyranny

          • Kulafarmer.

See, that is why they can succeed in gun control and pass all the laws they want. You don’t have to have a gun but you have to eat. How many on government aid own guns? Compared that to the number of all gun owners.
Gun owners on assistance overlap two areas. They want their gun rights but need to eat. Hmmmmmm.

            • I know of at least one.

        • @slingshot

Well…if it were tyranny we’d already be half way through the revolution. So I guess I’ll take hunger. Though my hope in any “revolution” gets further diminished each and every day. Maybe a handful of Americans will one day seek retribution, but revolution…. as I said in an above post, so many talk about a revolution when we cant even get an uprising. I’m thinking at this point a rapture would be about the best one could hope for

      35. Hunger.

      36. Shooting people is fun. OOffta dude. I’m staying the hell away from you. Sociopath comes to mind. I had to fight and kill in Nam but I sure a shell didn’t like it one bit. Killing is not fun and I still have nightmares. Nightmares caused the breakup of two previous marriages. I’m now married to a woman that gets and just loves me-36 yrs.

        • The colapse and reset i think could be something to look forward to, but that whole taking life thing isnt something to take lightly as per your experience bud, with that said, the blood lust of some of these political elite and their appointed and hired lap dogs can only be answered one way, ill bring a pouch of action wipes to clean the puke off afterwards, i just hope that all out zombie wars isnt where we end up.

      37. Another ‘commie’ commentator on the hot seat. Keith Oberman has been suspended and seems they are looking for another time/slime spot for that old fool. Now if Rachel Madcow will do us a fave and exit the scene (or “thrill up his leg”, Chris Matthews).

        BTW:

Anyone hear if the Mexican who caused the train wreck in California, if he is an illegal. Heard his name but not a peep about his legal/illegal status. First heard he had run away from the scene; next news cast he was found aimlessly walking around in a ‘stupor’. Gotta cover his ass if he is a illegal, you know. Upsets the folks who are not diggin’ this illegal immigration thingy.

Now, why would he run from the accident…..no papers?, no insurance?, possible drugs?, no license? Probably all of the above.

        • There is a lot of speculation about him having been paid to park his truck on the tracks and walk away, causing an oil train derailment, just when oil train regulations are under consideration in several states.

      38. Excuse me, but what does this have to do with the topic at hand?

        • Daisy.

          Nothing and everything.

          “I’ll take you there”.

          Oh, that Motown music.

          • Muzac fur da sole… Turn oop da bass mon.

        • Scroll on by Daisy….Half the conversations here had nothing to do with earthquakes.

So here is another one for you….

Buck Sexton, Glen Beck’s go to ex CIA boy becoming a commentator on the communist news network. Strange bedfellows, to say the least.

          • It may be true that many comments here have nothing to do with earthquakes, but does it help to add on mindless racial commentary that’s designed to only create hatred and division? It seems we already have more than our share on this site already without hijacking every thread as an opportunity to further drive a wedge between the races. Surely we can be on a level higher than that I think.

      39. Skin I know you know what the fuck is up. My white children and yours if you got them deserve it. They are innocent pure kids. I will be damned if anyone thinks they are gonna hurt them .my brothers around the northeast feel the same but they will not say it like I will. I know the words. Survival of my race is vital to me. It’s clear to see what the fuck is going on. If my kids lose 1crumb out of their mouth cause of all this shit I won’t be smiling anymore there will be hell to pay.

        • I hear you loud ‘n’ clear Ass hat… We may not be the sharpest knifes in the box in some peoples estimation on this web site but I know right from wrong… I don’t wish anybody any harm no matter what ethnicity they’re from but I do confess to looking after white folks with a passion… Especially the old and the weak… It’s caused me a lot of shit over the years but I ain’t bothered. I can handle going against the PC Shitheads… But you have a family to take care of… That’s MORE important. You lookout for you, your wife & your little ones. Being a father is a BIG responsibility and it sounds to me like you’re doing A-OK from what I’ve read… I always lookout for your posts and read ’em through, you have a lot of incite. Thanks Ass hat, you make a lot of sense on a lot of stuff even though the smartarse pricks can’t help but to add their negative fuck head comments. ha haaah. But that’s life innit! I’m away from here soon so I’ll say goodbye to you now. God bless you & yours.

      40. I’m thinking there must be someway to Tax this future possible tragedy/calamity kinda like this global climate change warming carbon footprint thing!!

      41. So we have the new Madrid Fault line, the Yellowstone supervolcano, a trillion dollars worth of financial weapons of mass destruction (also known as derivatives), an imminent nuclear holocaust with Russia (if Dr. Paul Craig Roberts is right), geo-engineering that is spraying us like bugs with toxic particulates, massive methane releases in the arctic that have the potential to completely shred our ozone layer and fry all live on earth, vaccines that make our children chronically sick, GMOs that pretty much destroy every healthy food choice we once had, a tyrannical US government that kills 3,000 of their own people so that they can kill millions more in the rest of world in the name of fighting terrorism, an out of control police state that has lost all sense of reality and humanity, a super X-class sun flare that completely obliterates the entire power-grid and plunges the earth back into the middle ages, an economy that is on the brink of disaster and mathematically can not recover, biological super-pandemics that could eradicate hundreds of million, even billions of people globally, an on-going mass extinction of our global animal and plant life, do I need to go on?
It seems like we are constantly inundated with new life-changing threats and I have no doubt that one day, one or more of these will affect all of our lives in a very direct way. Until then, I prepare the best I can for the unthinkable, enjoy life like there is no tomorrow and cherish every moment I have with my family.

      42. Who is Michael Snyder trying to impress with his interpretation of a prediction made by Edger Casey back in the 1940’s. It seems everybody wants to scare themselves into hysterics in order to avoid the real issues. Yes, the Madrid fault is dangerous. But so is most of nature if not treated with respect.

This government is totally owned by the Big 4 national and international Corporations. Big Ag (Monsanto etal), Big Oil, Big Pharma, and Big Banking. The best way to put a stop to the “Big Government” is to stop using products from the companies that control the government. No- don’t stop eating, just start incorporating more organic into your diet, and yes, grow as much of your own food as possible. Even sprouting in your kitchen can reward you with much needed vitamins and minerals that GMO’s lack. Hydroponics and aquaponics can be done in your own home or apartment. Start riding public transportation if possible and stop wasting gas on cars. Don’t buy products from places other than the US. Support this country, not China. Us credit unions rather than banks. That way you own a part of the operation and can have a say in what the credit union does with your money. Learn more about natural healing and stop relying solely on drug pushing doctors for your health.

As Nancy Reagan said, “Just say NO!”

      43. This is an excuse for the real cause of the earthquakes in OK and eastward. Fracking is what is causing many sink holes and earthquakes all over the country, especially in places where they have not had many. Before fracking Oklahoma’s largest earthquake was a 5.5 and that happened over 150 yeares ago. Now Ok is getting hit with 50-100 earthquakes every week! The media will say anything to protect huge corporate monsters, and their hypocrite politician mouth pieces!
