The US Food and Drug Administration, charged with keeping America’s food supply safe for consumption, has gone from regulator to armed enforcer, with the most notable recent actions by the agency focusing on small farmers, retailers and individuals who engage in the illegal practice of … get this … drinking milk directly from the cow. But It’s not just dairy products. The FDA has also targeted fruit and vegetable producers, as well as providers of natural medicines that have been been used for generations to cure everything from constipation to serious medical illnesses.
The crimes are considered so serious that the FDA has deployed armed federal agents and local SWAT teams with complete impunity in an effort to curb the distribution of these dangerous products.
If it were up to the FDA, all naturally grown organic foods and food practices would be criminalized and we’d all be subject to consuming engineered genetically modified foods, synthetic vitamins, and cocktails of pharmaceutical drugs to control our moods and emotions.
As is the case with most federal agencies, the FDA and large mega corporations have an incestuous relationship that has led to extreme regulation of any foods or products that may pose a competitive risk to pharmaceutical companies and large scale food production conglomerates. At the behest of these billion dollar giants, the FDA has taken measures to effectively silence those who would pose a threat to their business model by shutting down businesses and imprisoning their operators.
This is a battle to be sure, and the first shot from the majority – and yes, those who want access to choose what foods to consume and what medicines to take are the majority in this country – has been fired by Senator Rand Paul, who has introduced legislation that would reign in the enforcement powers of the FDA, disarm them, and allow for more open health claims by natural food producers.

I’m troubled by images of armed agents raiding Amish farms and preventing them selling milk directly from the cow. I think we have bigger problems in our country than sending armed FDA agents into peaceful farmers’ land and telling them they can’t sell milk directly from the cow.
My amendment has three parts. First, it attempts to stop the FDA’s overzealous regulations of vitamins, food and supplements by codifying the first amendment prohibition on prior restraint.

Second, my amendment would disarm the FDA.
Now, some of you might be surprised the FDA is armed. Well, you shouldn’t be.
We have nearly 40 federal agencies that are armed. I’m not against having police, I’m not against the army, the military, the FBI, but I think bureaucrats don’t need to be carrying weapons and I think what we ought to do, is if there is a need for an armed policeman to be there, the FBI who are trained to do this should do it. But I don’t think it’s a good idea to be arming bureaucrats to go on the farm to, with arms, to stop people from selling milk from a cow.
I think we have too many armed federal agencies, and that we need to put an end to this. Criminal law seems to be increasing, increasingly is using a tool of our government bureaucracy to punish and control honest businessmen for simply attempting to make a living.
Historically the criminal law was intended to punish only the most horrible offenses that everyone agreed were inherently wrong or evil, offenses like rape, murder, theft, arson – but now we’ve basically federalized thousands of activities and called them crimes.
If bureaucrats need to involve the police, let’s have them use the FBI, but I see no reason to have the FDA carrying weapons.
Today the criminal law is used to punish behavior such as even fishing without a permit, packaging a product incorrectly or shipping something with an improper label.
Simply said, the federal government’s gone too far.
The plain language of our Constitution specifies very few federal crimes. In fact, the Constitution originally only had four federal crimes and now we have thousands of federal crimes.
We’ve moved beyond the original intent of the Constitution. We don’t even know or have a complete list of all the federal crimes. It’s estimated there are over 4,000, but no one has an exact number.
Finally, my amendment will require adequate mens rea protection. In other words, when you have a crime, you’re supposed to prove the intent. People have to have intended to harm someone, it can’t be an honest mistake where a businessman or woman have broken a regulation and didn’t intend to harm someone. If you want to convict someone of a crime and put them in jail, it should be a mens rea requirement.

We fully support such legislation and believe this is one of those issues that crosses the political spectrum and gives those on the left, the right, and anywhere on the peripheries an issue to come together on.
Our food supplies are already contaminated with engineered foods and unhealthy additives that have been shown to cause cancer and other disease. What I don’t understand at all, is that we all know that the US Government is corrupt and only for itself. You would think that out of 300 million US citizens (and subtract half that are on welfare, government employees, socialism freaks, and just plain lazy losers) leaving 150 million people, we can’t even find 5,000 or 10,000 people willing to give up everything and go to DC and literally take down the fence at the White House and every other government building (IRS and all others) and throw the bums out and end it.
I would give up my life to save this country with no problem, but no one can do it alone. I know we all enjoy our families, big screen TV’s, Internet, jobs, homes, and spending money, and no one want their family to be without them if things got heavy, but how else can it be done.
We as American’s have lost a lot of our backbone, we can text, email, and communicate to millions in seconds and yet we can’t get together a group of real American’s willing to do what our forefathers did because we figure it is easier to just let someone else do it.
Our local government is just as bad in every state and town in the US. Taxes are out of control, welfare losers getting more than we every will, and criminals have more rights than hard working taxpayers can ever dream of. What is wrong with the good, honest, hard working, true blue American?
This might sound over the edge for some, but at this point there is no other way anything or anyone is going to change it any other way. We are all considered terrorist because we believe in what we grew up being taught, now that kind of thinking is a crime against the government. When they take you away to some Fema Camp, your family is going to be without you anyway, so at least make it count. We all need to get off our asses and do something, because we are at the point that we have nothing to lose.

I use to sit in my recliner after skimming the top off the milk and shaking it in a mason-ball jar making butter while watching tv. I also used the milk for homemade ice cream cause of his herd’s high fat content. I allow that I might not make it through the first skirmish but I’ll be damn if I won’t be there. P.S. I hope that drone comes over my property sportin’ that high resolute camera….cause I’ll be standing in the garden with my straw hat and slip on rubber boots, shaking my “package” at ’em.

I have often wondered why more Americans do not follow the same strategy, yet the reason is frustratingly simple. There is no leader, no one who will go “first”. Like in the fable when the mice voted to bell the cat, and all is well until some brave mouse actually has to do the deed, and no mouse volunteers.
Civil disobedience such as you have suggested, does not work in isolation. In isolation, and without a leader, we can be bullied or intimidated or locked up out of view from the rest of would-be resistors. Granted, apathy is a big part of the problem. Most Americans cannot be aroused to anger over clear-cut examples of election fraud; what makes you think they will care whether or not they can drink milk straight from a cow?
If someone were to follow the civil disobedience route, what do you think would be the likely outcome? I believe the most likely outcome of disobedience would be legal action by the Feds against the recalcitrant, and ultimately would lead to confiscation of money, property, or imprisonment, and at the end of it nothing will have changed except the life of the individual who chose to defy a faceless bureaucracy.
In my opinion, the only way that this will change is with a leader. Take, for example, the civil rights movement. It took a Martin Luther King to focus attention of policy makers and to make them take notice of acts of civil disobedience. Leaders of his caliber are exceedingly rare. Dr Ron Paul might be such a leader if he were to decide to work outside the system. Drinking a glass of raw milk in the House of Representatives on live TV would be a challenge which the Feds would not be able to ignore. However, I don’t believe his son has the same charisma as his father. Ultimately, a failure to utilize civil disobedience now will lead to armed resistance in the future.

@Moon, yes, and look what happened to MLK. Someone has to be a sacrificial lamb, is basically what you’re saying. As for my suggestion, it will never be brought about by my rants in these discussions. People will keep playing this silly games with the government until it reaches a point of critical mass. When the tyranny becomes so blatantly obvious to everyone and they have nothing left to lose, that’s when the big shift comes.
We’re almost there, but not quite. When the tyranny goes hot, and I suspect it to be soon, then people will finally start to see it for what it is, evil. This is the point when the organic wave of disobedience begins.
As for how many get involved, consider the American revolution against the British. There was only a 3% participation rate. When this thing comes unglued, I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see a 10 to 15% participation rate.
For now, I live by example. I practice what I preach. In order to do so, you need to know the Constitution and carry a copy with you wherever you go. That is your contract with the government and there is precedent case law attached to it that everyone can use, but must study and know thoroughly. It may be great to possess the physical arms of weaponry, but there is no greater weapon than knowledge. The pen truly is sharper than the sword.
I have heard many times from various people that the Constitution is dead. By the looks of what the government does and the unlawful bills that are passed, the government would like you to believe it is. However, 99% of the time, people relinquish their own rights by engaging in contracts, consent and accepting benefits with this infected beast system. If you know what to say, what to reference and comprehend their language, you can hold your own as an American in most cases.

There are also many sites that can help you with just about any problem concerning your natural rights and the Constitution. The only thing people need to do is get educated and practice being an American.

We need to abolish the criminal penalties of ALL departmental policies. If Congress feels an action should have crimintal punishment, they can craft a law that allows judges to use their discretion in applying and interpreting the situation. That is how our Constitution is set up.

Actually, I would take it a step further and abolish all departments. These departments are a symptom of the underlying problem – namely, the abdication by Congress of it’s core responsibilities. Article 1, Section 8 is pretty explicit on the duties of Congress. By ceding their lawmaking powers to bureaucracies, Congress is lessening its power and authority, and creating a monster which is not subject to accountability from the voters. Eliminate the unelected bureaucracies and force Congress to do it’s job. They want to pass an unpopular regulation? Then allow them to do it and make them accountable to the voters.
When they come to my house for ANY reason, they have gone too far.

It is simple if you understand scripture. God wants us to communicate with him. He created us with free will and He wants us to use that in a positive way. He loves us (those that love Him and His Son) and he wants us to remind him that we have been reading His letter to us and that we are promised many things by Him. There are conditions for those blessings, but they are ours for the asking. If we ask for the wrong things that may hurt us, we will only get what God sees as beneficial and not the things that will possibly cause us to loose our humbleness. I feel sorry for those that don’t have that connection. God will work miracles in our lives if we trust , obey and be patient.

Having owned a “food service” venue I can tell you the “health department” is as close to “nazi” Germany as I ever want to get. Them people are scary – give them guns and it’ll be a nightmare. They already have a power trip on.

God bless Rand Paul! The sad thing is that he is one of only a handful of people in the legislature that respects the original intent of the constitution. The rest of them are too busy trying to circumvent it in order to buy votes or campaign contributions.
From time to time I bump into some of these govt employees who work in a major underground spy center near where I live. They are totally govt brainwashed & see nothing wrong with what they are doing to American citizens or to American Freedom.
It’s like the govt has little agencies full of robots with no concern for humans, freedom or individuality. In fact, I think these folks literally get off on the power they have over us – from the peon who makes minimum wage to the top level bureaucrats.
These people are just not even grounded in the reality that the majority of Americans live in. And they have the power of the govt and whatever abstract law they want to create behind them.
Day by day we are losing freedom. It’s been happening for years but its happening at alarming rates now thanks to technology and a radical administration & President hell bent on tranforming the United States of America.
I say we transform him out of a job in November. You may hate Romney, but you need to vote for him to get obama out of office (especially if you live in a swing state).
With Romney, at least we can slow down the madness, take a deep breath and figure out how to fix this. Right now there is no time for a deep breath – we are in crisis mode with literally no way to stop it.
I both agree and disagree with you. For a long time I have felt that we were being herded by the politicians into voting one way or the other. Each time, they put someone in office that will do one part of the control agenda while decrying the other. Yet, neither side repeals much of what the other did when they get in office. Thus, both can pander to their core constituencies while helping the grander plan of total control, bought and paid for by the multinational corporations. Thus, Romney will work hard to implement new forms of control in the name of “law and order”, which the Republicans are known for. Obama will work for greater control in the name of protecting people from themselves. In the end, both achieve the same ends but with different means and rhetoric. Sadly though, they are the only real choice in the matter as most of the sheep will not vote for a third party candidate. In the end then, we have no real choice at all as the American political system is set up in such a way that almost anyone not part of the 2 big corporate political party machines can’t get elected.
The only hope we might have is rather convoluted. It’s a Ron Paul independent candidacy and a economic collapse in September or October, which many have postulated might happen. This will only work though if the truth about the collapse gets out to the majority of the sheep and wakes them up. It’s a long shot, but it’s the only one we have.

ahh good ole Jersey. Lived there. Grew up there, in southern part full of farms and I remeber the smell of fresh tilled dirt. My neighbor was a farmer and in the summer i woke up to the sound of the packing machine (baw baw boom) now filled with cookie cutter homes and forclosure signs. Hardley any farms except for the big blueberry farms. All the lil stands on the roadside are gone…..but I have my memories of it. Moved a few years back to NC in hopes of giving my children a more simple upbringing, in frm country. But Jersey, over regulated and a test me state. They test new laws there to see how the sheeple will comply. They then move the laws to CA and it gets adapted elsewhere. That is why I moved but I sure loved how it was when I was a lil kid.
There have been many discussions about the economy lately and the failure of the Western political systems. Many economic problems and political mistakes could have been avoided by sticking to some simple rules. Its all about:
– keep the rules simple
– keep them transparent
– the makers and enforcers of these rule have be accountable for the electorate and the law
– the rules are made to serve the community, to offer legal security for all parties, to make live easier and not for oppressing people or give advantage for a few
– the rules are not made for the purpose that parties, organizations, private persons or companies can make a profit
– and most important COMMON SENSE must be the base of any rule introduced
This should normally give citizens a good framework to work, to do business, to run a community and live their lives. There is no need for most these government bodies to control every part of a citizens life. Many of these bodies are simply parasites living of their hosts, the people. They are growing more and more until the host either literally deceases or they are removed by the host, sometimes by reforms and sometimes by revolutions.
I had a rough discussion in public with our mayor and our administrator about this subject.The result was that I was vilified by them. Most listeners however agreed with me and a few low ranking employees in the community centre now provide a much better service and welcome me with a smile.

Look at all the people who are in jail from self medicating with relatively mild drugs like marijuana when much more powerful drugs are legally dispensed by physicians.
Answer: I believe ADRs (“adverse drug reactions”) from pharmaceuticals are still killing over 100,000 Americans every year (far less that from car accidents and firearms). JAMA reported 128,000 ADR deaths several years ago. It’s also my understanding that illegal drugs only kill around 10,000 per year.

JD, look at all the vets on meds. Over the years, some vets have taken my advice and gone to civilian doctors, for 2nd opinions. They have found out that some of the meds do them little to no good and many of the meds are habit forming and damaging(physically).
I believe many of the vets are being fed alot of meds to make them co-dependant/addicted inorder to keep them from rising up against the gov’t. I’m a vet that has never needed the VA’s help. Having counciled many Viet Nam vets and other VA patients, I’ve been told that many have been given the wrong meds for years. Verified by other doctors (both civilian and military). I hate seeing our vets treated as lab rats.

City folks (myself included) are raised up brainwashed. I find it predictable that the FDA selected the Amish (an unarmed, religious colony that practices pacifism as a matter of religion, “to make an example of them.” I think the headlines of such government abuse-of-power would have been much different if it had been executed upon a private dairy in say…Montana or Texas… Contrary to the catchy TV adds, “an army of one” doesn’t exist, but an army of a hundred thousand or a million does…And make no bones about it, it needs to be unified, educated (with the truth) and ARMED.
