Justified Self Defense: Mom Kills Armed Intruder with Shotgun; 9-1-1 Operator Gives Her the OK To Shoot

While foreign politicians at the United Nations debate the merits of allowing American citizens to own firearms, yet another example of the absolute necessity of the right to bear arms in a free society emerges from Oklahoma, where an 18 year old mom and widow who lost her husband on Christmas Day was at home with her young son on New Year’s eve.

McKinley told ABC News Oklahoma City affiliate KOCO that she quickly got her 12 gauge, went into her bedroom and got a pistol, put the bottle in the baby’s mouth and called 911.

“I’ve got two guns in my hand — is it okay to shoot him if he comes in this door?” the young mother asked the 911 dispatcher. “I’m here by myself with my infant baby, can I please get a dispatcher out here immediately?”

The 911 dispatcher confirmed with McKinley that the doors to her home were locked as she asked again if it was okay to shoot the intruder if he were to come through her door.

“I can’t tell you that you can do that but you do what you have to do to protect your baby,” the dispatcher told her. McKinley was on the phone with 911 for a total of 21 minutes.

When Martin kicked in the door and came after her with the knife, the teen mom shot and killed the 24-year-old. Police are calling the shooting justified.

      1. That’s Awesome!

        • Poor girl is having a tough week:

Her husband dies on Christmas, and then a couple douch bags try to bust into her house.

          Man.

At least things worked the way they are supposed to work for once.

          • God bless that poor woman.

It’s good to see she came out on the winning end to such a contest, but it sucks that she had to deal with it in the first place.

On the plus side, if there are any single guys in the area at around the same age, I think I now know of someone that you would definitely want to have by your side when the SHTF. Unlike most of the folks on this site, she’s proven herself tough enough to do what’s necessary when it comes down to it.

            • Wow. It’s good to hear something actually works out the way it’s supposed to in these situations. Too often we hear about how the defender gets hooked up for one stupid reason or another.

Yeah — it turns out we do actually have a right to defend ourselves and our children. Hmmmm… imagine that. What a novel concept. Anti-gun and “anti-violence” advocates rarely ever have to deal with a guy with a knife kicking in a door while their babies are nursing a bottle. I’m just glad we don’t have to read (yet another) headline where a young woman and her child are raped and killed.

I’m glad this piece of shit got thrown in the 12 gauge fan, and I feel sorrow for this woman who had to be put in this position.

            • Only in America can a young mother defend her baby and herself with a firearm from vicious criminals who were intending to do GOD knows what this poor gal. DO NOT EVER give up your guns to anyone for any reason. EVER. PERIOD. DO YOU UNDERSTAND.

            • On the phone with dispatcher for 21 minutes?! Where the hell were the good for nothin’ police in that county I’d like to know? Man, law enforcement is gettin’ real sorry these days. I keep several loaded firearms stashed here an’ there for just this reason.

          • Did you mean *douche* bags? I know it’s hard to tell the government scumbags apart.

        • Imagine how Awesome it would have been if it was some statist ideologue who was presumably a politician of Tyranny . . . !

        • There are a lot of stories like this out there. People just like this single mother who used her God-given right to defend herself and her child. Maybe not a “feel good” story like this one, but most of the time our “mainstream” media refuses to tell them. Fortunately though, this one made print.

          • When seconds count, the police are minutes away. Thank God she didn’t live in one of those candy-assed liberal states where in all likelyhood she’d be facing some serious charges. She is one tough little lady.

            • No, she would be dead, there wouldn’t be a need to press charges! That’s what’s sad about it.

            • Great point about police being minutes away. I’ve spoken to officers and they’ve said get yourself a firearm and be ready to protect your family.

Police are great but by the time they get there, they are usually taking a report, not someone to jail.

              Go, Ms. McKinley.

        • PAUL/VENTURA 2012

          • I dunno. Sounds pretty damn feel good to me.

        • Those punks thought they were going to get some leg……..and instead got some lead. Way to go Little Okie Annie!

        • What the hell? Way to go momma, but on the phone for 21 minutes? Man, the police should have been there and handled that before then. Response time of five to seven, I understand. I would have hijacked a steam powered uni cycle to get there if needed. Ladies, stamp IATOPOH on your defensive weapons. Because I AM THE ONLY PEACE OFFICER HERE, is all you will have… Probably. Hate to bash my own kind, but…… YOU SUCK!

          • Sheepdog, that’s if you’re in the city or the burbs you can get a response in 5-10 minutes. It looks like Annie Okey was out in the sticks where a deputy is is 30-40 minutes away. It’s YOYO Times (You’re On Your Own), and with cut backs it’s going to get worse for all of us, so get use to it and keep a few guns handy.

          • I was the responding officer to this tragic event. I was off duty, got the call at 2:02pm and was on scene at 2:08pm. The area is very rural and given the circumstances my response time is a respectable one. There are times when you just can’t be everywhere at once. I can say that not many of you out there criticizing and second guessing would be willing to walk into a “shots fired” call without hesitation.

        • Awesome?
No, she shouldn’t have had a gun, she should have waited for the police. Who would have scared away the two bad guys. Who would come right back after the police left. But I’m sure the police will keep coming back every time she called, after all it is their job to scare away bad guys.

Just remember that gun are evil and no one should have them. Thanks for reading, now I got to take my pills for the day and watch the news on how Obama has save the economy.

      2. Very Cool!

        • This is trully “Home land security” at its best. No gov’t needed.
Police say its justified! You think?
          Bill, I agree ‘very cool’.

      3. If you come into my home uninvited, well you’re just a dead man walking. If the dogs don’t get one of my family certainly will!

        • So whats the problem? Theres no news here, thats the way it is supposed to work, right? You break in. you get shot and killed. you are just one dead bitch.

      4. Good Riddance!

      5. One for the good guys! May to go mom!!!!!

        • Way, not May! Damn, go to excited to hear the news!!!

          • Ha! Thats funny. My brain turned the M over and I didn’t even realize it!

            • It’s wreid waht our brians wlil do to mkae tihngs raedalbe

            • regnaRteN,

              SPD

      6. Saw this earlier today! Awesome! Wherever that happened, thats a decent place to live. Crime will take a dive. News travels fast.

      7. High five to mama…some people would not have been able to keep their cool and take care of business like that.

Those dudes thought they had an easy target with a young single mother. Think again!!!

        • Need a few more mothers like that!

My wife believes that would never happen to her an guns are scary…thats what a lot of ppl think in Oz.

          • It’s sad what has become of Great Britain and Australia. Whenever I think about formerly great nations that have become second rate and have subjects instead of citizens, I think of the US, with Britain and Australia close behind.

          • Yep, that’s one tough mother. You know I had to say it…

          • I know too many people who insist, “If you don’t put your energy into something like that, you won’t attract it to you.” They just won’t believe things like that really happen to people in their own homes in America! These are the same ones who hate guns, and think those who own them are being careless and endangering their kids by not having them disassembled with the parts and ammo all locked in separate places.

Amazing. Good for this young mom, though I have to wonder if the cops jackass was sick. Why such a long response time?

            Ian

        • And we all know this wasn’t B&E for burglary..who robs a home while the occupant is there..it was attempted rape with that knife, huh??

        • i would like to see the look on the burglars face when you pop out in your xena outfit and broad sword

        • Daisy, I can see you doin’ something like that. Soft as velvet, yet hard and cold as steel when the chips are down. That’s a complement by the way.

      8. I think the NRA website has a historical compilation of other reported incidents like this homeowner defending themselves with firearms. If you happen to check out the NRA site for more stories like this you should take note of a woman named Jacqui Creazzo.
She is a paraplegic who’s story is told there but google her name to find out how she became a paraplegic. It’s incredible.

Btw, not to nitpick but it would increase your website’s credibility if more effort were made to ensure the stories reposted on here met basic editorial requirements. Don’t get me wrong I really appreciate what Mac is doing and visit this site daily.

The only reason i mention this is because there has been occasion where I’ve referred this site to some people who were put off by what they perceived as a lack of journalistic integrity therefore not to be taken as seriously as I think all visitors should take the contents of this site.

        Just my two cents…

        • Anon; if they were put off by a lack of journalistic integrity then they would’ve found something else not to like besides the journalistic integrity.
All one has to do is read a newspaper and/or a news mag and you’ll find a lack of journalistic integrity.
Me, I like the presentation of the material on this site because it is written as though it is conversational communication. Then if there is an error, Mac has been quick to make a correction and he has learned from some of the readers/bloggers. Won’t find that in the journalistic community (MSM) nor honesty.
Keep up the your personal integrity Mac.

          • Thanks for the comment. I do what I can. Mistakes are made, and like you said, if we identify them, I correct them whenever possible. There have been numerous occasions where we’ve completely scrapped a story once contrary evidence was presented.

I am not sure exactly where integrity is lost among readers. Generally, everything we post uses reference links and citations to original sources.

Sure, I add a bit of commentary and such, but that is more opinion than anything else and that’s why the comment section is here, for people to post rebuttals or to agree, or to bring to light a completely different view of looking at things.

In any case, many thanks to everyone for reading, and especially for the insightful contributions in the community comment areas.

            Mac

        • Yeah Mac,
Just sell your soul like the rest of the presstitutes, that way you will have journalistic integrity. I think you can sell it for hmmmmmm……2 cents.

        • BOOO Anon. Mac, keep up the great work

      9. Hope this story sends a needed message to would be intruders. Maybe it will give them second thoughts and maybe stop a few future break ins. What I can’t understand is: if she was on the phone for 21 minutes what to the police so long if they were running lights and siren, code 3.

        • Obviously they had just pulled off a fresh batch off the line at the Krispy Kreme. Besides she had two guns, one for each of ’em.

      10. “There is othing more dangerous than a mother with a child”…AMEN!!!

        • I believe the saying is “the most dangerous place in the world is between a mother and her child” but we got the message and so did they. Amen

      11. *nothing

      12. The poster child for self defense.

      13. The real lesson here is that you are on your own. An over 21 minute response time for a life or death, crime in progress is the new normal. It would be very interesting to know how long it took the cops to get there and clean up the mess.

        • Good point… 21 Minutes WTF?

          • Jeez! They could kill you, clean the place up and bury you, clean the house out and be gone in that time.

I agree, Red Leader. 21 minutes? Double WTF? Sorry. Oh. Sorry. Gotta say it: “Donut shop must be on the other end of town.”

Ah! I feel better now. Not a fan of cops. (Sorry, they’re really not all bad, but like rotten apples, put one rotten one in there and the whole bushel stinks.)

            • Net Ranger, what I tell people who would not think of defending themselves, it is my solem promise that I will do the very best homicide investigation possible if they are murdered. I will leave no stone unturned. I will never quit. I tell them that I hope that makes them and their greiving families feel better.

            • Well at least you said it.. I didn’t want to go there. It was my very first thought though. 🙂

            • Wouldnt be a big shock to find out the guys kicking in your door to rape and kill ARE cops…maybe not these bassturds but theres been plenty of times where they were…glad this gal wasnt a victim!

          • When seconds count, the police are just minutes away… KEL

          • to be fair, OK has a lot of rural areas. 21 mins in that case could be reasonable. my grandparents lived on a ranch here in TX, and i suspect the distance from the local PD was one factor in their having several guns (read two leaning behind every door) always within arm’s reach (including one in the pantry with a “hair trigger” for my g-ma, and a pocket pistol for gramps. gramps died with his in his pocket, and g-ma with hers in her purse – both licensed c&c and badass over 80’s.)

        • The police are a reactionary force. In rural american I’m sure that this isn’t all that unusual of a response time. In some locales there might be one sheriff or SP car that covers a 1-200 square mile area. Do the math on that potential response time. Self defense in that situation is paramount to personal safety.

          • Ranger you are spot-on. The night before I was to leave for an oveseas mission, an intruder drove over the berm near our front gate to our ranch on an ATV. (We have the Dakota Alert sensors) We have two neighbors 1.5 miles away and nothing for 5 miles after that. My wife called the sheriff and they arrived two hours later, whie I tracked the suspect down. I found him an hour later, out of gas. It was an intoxicated Native American from the reservation about 7 miles away. It turned out we knew each other from prior arrests when he was younger. We had words but he was fairly harmless.

I now have dead trees on top of the berms. My wife has a new interest in the Mini-14 I gave her with an Eotech.

What is happening to Law Enforcement everywhere is incredible. People will find out their level of service when they call in an emergency.

I should note I recently retired.

            • Agreed. I personally know a lady whose home was being broken into by an ex-boyfriend bent on killing her. She called 911 and was told that police couldn’t come because the situation was “too dangerous”.

              What!!! THAT’S WHY SHE CALLED!!!

Her boyfriend broke in and shot her. Fortunately, she survived, absolutely no thanks to her local police.

            • This type of story is not as uncommon as you might think. A kid tried to break into our house while my wife and newborn son were home and I was at work. She called me to let me know what happened just before calling 911. My wife let the 911 dispatcher know she had a gun. I booked it home. At the time I worked about 5 miles away, which happened to be right by our regional police station. This is in a northern VA, DC suburb. Let’s just say I got home before the cops arrived. The grace of God and firearms are your only protection in a situation like that. Fortunately, the kid didn’t end up dead, and based on my wife’s description the police caught him because he was well known to local law enforcement.

            • Cyber,

              Welcome back bud..

              DPS

            • I read Yakima, WA PD are losing their taxpayer paid on the job cellphones due to budget cuts, WTF.

          • ranger say “The police are a reactionary force.”

The police are SUPPOSED to be a reactionary force that ONLY responds to the VOICE of a Man or Woman. Instead it is an instigative force that responds only to corp officers involved in the same fictional affairs.

The 21 minute response time is only for People so long as the danger poses no threat to the corp. If the corp is threatened, the response is IMMEDIATE.

That Woman was right to call 9-11 and alert the only corp sanctioned users of force as a backup, but she never needed to ask the operators “permission” to shoot the SOB.

After shooting him, she should have called them back and said never mind, I will put my baby to bed and put him in the road so you can pick up his corpse there. If you can’t be here for protection, I don’t need you to clean up the mess either. Nor will I tolerate any investigation of ME as a part of your cleanup.

There is nothing the police are involved in that is not corp business. Asking their assistance makes you it’s business.

          • Ranger, our county is over 4,700 sq.miles and covered by 18 total deputies. You are right on and in some cases any responders (EMS, Sheriff,etc..) take over 30 minutes. Then with the 18 deputies covering the county, their area of responsibility is increased when officers have time off. Even when they are off, they’re always on call. Tough life for law enforcement here.

          • Ranger, it is about to get worse in some areas. I saw today that Detroit is laying off 108 officers. The only time I traveled the 200 miles to that town was to see a Lions, Tigers or Red wings game. I guess I will be watching them on TV. I am sure that this is slowly happening everywhere. We have to be ready to protect ourselves.

        • That’s why we don’t call 911. It is just Gubberment sponsored Dial A Prayer ! This lady did what will be happening every day when the SHTF. Everyone needs to wrap their heads around this. I expect that we all will be needing to protect what is ours from criminal attack.
If you think that you are going to bluff the bad guys by waving a gun around…..you will be in for a big surprise. I told my wife twenty years ago that if she ever sees me produce my carry piece…..expect to her bang, bang, bang….very shortly there after.
          Keep on preppin Y’all !
          Montgomery County Texas

      14. Here in West Virginia the castle doctrine extends to within a fence around one’s home. Recently, someone here was mugged in a Wal-Mart parking lot after which he chased down the perp and shot him. The shooter was rightfully arrested, but after much public outcry he was subsequently released.

        • Not far from here, a 23 year old left a theater after meeting her friend there–a thug followed her home..with 2 others behind him in another car..she pulled into her drive, he hit her with something steel, grabbed her wallet and purse, they beat in her face..she was interviewed and had black, blue, and purple all over her face–she ran in and told her dad to call cops; they escaped.
But, there is another judgment coming for them..bring it.

      15. Proud mother. What this mother did is a God given rights.

      16. If this mum was in Australia she would have been attacked, maybe killed. We are no longer allowed to defend ourselves.
This story really brings home to me how we’ve given up our freedoms down here in Oz.

        • Bastet

I agree. Even if you are one of the few in australia who own a gun you are not allowed to use it to defend yourself.

          • A friend of mind told me Iowa just passed a law (9 months ago)where you can’t shoot them with a gun and their breaking in if they have a knife or less. It has to be the same force against force. I told him he may as well live in California. His mom was getting her concealed carry and asked the sheriff if that was right. He said yes, you would be arrested for using excessive force. Just looks like a future Supreme court case to me.

            • Yup Iowa has crappy laws on the book…Kalifornia believe it or not has a better set of castle doctrine laws in the book….go figure

            • No matter what the law is, each of us have an inalienable right to defend ourselves. If our ignorant society puts you in prison, well, I guess you need to measure your actions against that. If this is your child, or spouse, and you have measured the situation, make your choice. And live with it, or fight it. Do what you have to do.

            • I’d rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6

            • That’s a bulls*it law. That would never hold up in court. Well maybe nowdays, but that’s double bulls@it!

            • “Just looks like a future Supreme court case to me.”

Yeah, it sure does. But just how much grief will people have to endure before such stupidity is no longer disguised as “law”? IMHO, such things are IQ tests for legislators. Clearly, the bunch in Iowa has had an epic fail. Throw out every one of them who voted for that garbage and bring in some folks who know what a “make my day” law is and why it is needed in all 50 states.

            • I am sad to say that it appears to me that the Supreme Court is the most corrupt branch of government. If they had been doing their job, the destruction of the Constitution could not have happened. It is now far worse with the Fat Slags (Sotomayor and Kagan) on the bench.
              http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fat_Slags#Fat_Slags:_The_Film

        • I am sad for you. They must be using better brainwashing down there. Honestly, in most of America, except for the less free areas, the big cities (and in the east), this is acceptable practice. I know in my state, you don’t want to mess with people. You break in the door and you’re putting your life on the line.

        • Ditto uk. Maybe I could shout bang and hope it scares them. Madness. When will tptb admit that the bad guys already have guns, it’s the good guys that are left out.

          Take care x

      17. Sure as hell won’t wait for a dispatcher to tell me what to do!

I’ll dispatch all 6 from my Sig, reload and if he kept movin, dipatch more, and then tell dispatch he ain’t movin. Come pick em up and bring a Crime Scene clean up crew. Then call my attorney, shut up and sit tight. Only talk through your attorney. Nothing more or less. CYA.

        Y’all Beware!

        • Hehehe. So, what you’re saying is you’re “Sig to death” of this kind of crime?

          😀

        • Y’all, my uncle has (in place of a welcome sign)on his gate:

          “WE DON’T CALL 911”

It also has a lovely carving of a Glock.

          • Yeah, that’s a good one. I also like the sign that says, “Forget the dog… BEWARE of the owner!” with a BIG pistol pointing at the reader.

        • Y’all,
If you don’t mind me asking what sig or sigs do you pack?
I love my sig P226…and especially love finding out that Mec-gar makes sigs magazines…and while a 15 round factory sig P226 mag costs 35 and up In FRN’s….you can get Mec-gar 18 round flush fits mags for the sig for 20 FRN’s.

Mine all work flawlessly, same company, just different marketing.

This service announcement has been brought to you by
          RWS III of Team: FREEFOR

        • You can’t talk through an attorney (fiction), nor do you have any rights if you retain one.

To hire an attorney is to grant the corp private jurisdiction over EVERYTHING you think you own, including your body of rights.

An attorney can not protect your “rights” until AFTER they have already been violated by the corp. If you want your rights, it is up to YOU to assert them, claim them, and invoke the Law that protects them.

      18. APPLAUD !!!!

This is a perfect example of young lady who was PREPARED!

Something that has been preached about here at SHTF PLAN.
Also., this is what is possibly.., what is to come for many of the good citizens of America. Things could be getting worse.

        So PREPARE !!! 🙂

        • I am over 60 and the Armed Forces thinks

I’m too old to track down terrorists.

You can’t be older than 42 to join the military.

They’ve got the whole thing ass-backwards.
Instead of sending 18-year olds off to fight,

they ought to take us old guys.

You shouldn’t be able to join a military unit until you’re at least 35.

          For starters, researchers say 18-year-olds

think about sex every 10 seconds.

Old guys only think about sex a couple of times a day,

leaving us more than 28,000 additional seconds per day

          to concentrate on the enemy.

Young guys haven’t lived long enough to be cranky,

and a cranky soldier is a dangerous soldier.

‘My back hurts! I can’t sleep, I’m tired and hungry.’

We are impatient and maybe letting us kill some asshole

          that desperately deserves it

will make us feel better and shut us up for awhile…

An 18-year-old doesn’t even like to get up before 10am .

Old guys always get up early to pee, so what the hell.

Besides, like I said, I’m tired and can’t sleep and

since I’m already up, I may as well be up

          killing some fanatical son-of-a-bitch.

If captured we couldn’t spill the beans

because we’d forget where we put them.

In fact, name, rank, and serial number would be a real brainteaser.

Boot camp would be easier for old guys…

We’re used to getting screamed and yelled at

and we’re used to soft food.

We’ve also developed an appreciation for guns.

We’ve been using them for years as an excuse to get out of the house,

away from the screaming and yelling.

They could lighten up on the obstacle course however…

I’ve been in combat and never saw a single 20-foot wall

with rope hanging over the side,

nor did I ever do any pushups after completing basic training.

Actually, the running part is kind of a waste of energy, too…

I’ve never seen anyone outrun a bullet.

An 18-year-old has the whole world ahead of him.

He’s still learning to shave, to start a conversation with a pretty girl.
He still hasn’t figured out that a baseball cap has a brim

to shade his eyes, not the back of his head.

These are all great reasons to keep our kids at home

to learn a little more about life before sending them off into harm’s way.

Let us old guys track down those dirty rotten coward terrorists.

The last thing an enemy would want to see is a couple million

pissed off old farts with attitudes and automatic weapons,

who know that their best years are already behind them.

HEY!! How about recruiting Women over 50… in menopause!!!
          You think MEN have attitudes??

          Ohhhhhhhhhhhh my God!!!

If nothing else, put them on border patrol.

They’ll have it secured the first night!

Send this to all of your senior friends…

it’s in big type so they can read it.

          • Bravo Anon. Agree, common sense that won’t be used. Thanks for the truth with humor.

          • Sorry for the BOO earlier Anon, this post more than makes up for it. I am 46 and I agree with you.

          • OMG! That may well be the funniest damned thing I have EVER read on the Internet… and when I started using the Internet, it was all text at 300 baud, baby, and if you didn’t know the basics of UNIX, you could NOT use it! Sign me up and ship my wrinkled ass down to Texas! 😉

      21. In taking my CWP, I think that an assailant with a knife from 20 feet away, is able to strike you within 1.5 seconds. Read up on your rights. No need to ask for permission.

“Officer, I felt my life and or that of my family was in immediate danger.” Check with your state rules and understand your rights before you pull the trigger.

        Y’all Beware!

      22. United Nations *DEBATING* the merits of *ALLOWING* Americans to have guns? Mac, now you know I get a real potty mouth when I get pissed.

HEY! UN, FUCK YOU! WE DON’T WANT YOU HERE. WE DON’T NEED YOU HERE. OH, AND WATCH ME WIPE MY BUTT WITH THE UN CHARTER AND EVERY LAST PIECE OF PAPER YOU’VE EVER PRINTED UP. THE WHOLE WORLD HATES YOU. MAY YOU ROT IN HELL, BACK WHERE YOU CAME FROM!

Shew! That felt REALLY good. Thanks Mac!

        • Amen to that!!!!!

        • Lol, NetRanger! Thanks for saying what a lot of us were already thinking when we read about the #!$!#@! UN.

” OH, AND WATCH ME WIPE MY BUTT WITH THE UN CHARTER AND EVERY LAST PIECE OF PAPER YOU’VE EVER PRINTED UP.”

Man, does that sound like a lifetime supply of TP for a good sized town, or what?

      23. The article says her husband died on Christmas. It makes me wonder if there was an obituary. Perhaps the prowler heard about the death and thought she would be unprotected. It’s important to be careful after the death of a family member because there are too many people who will try to take advantage of the situation.

        • very wwise and true statement

        • Well of course they read it in the paper of her husbands death, or in fact the knew this brave young lady. They did not go there to steal from her these to scum bags went there to rape her!!!! Then probally to kill her, the only sad part to this story is she didn’t get both of thses CSMF.

          DPS

      24. To the united nation I state 2 qoute’s you will here at my door step when you come to collect my firearms “From my cold dead hands” and “come and take them”

        • Molon Lobe…come and take ’em.

        • You forgot ” Hot popping and empty.”

          DPS

        • Somehow, offering up the idea of “from my cold dead hands” seems like giving the clods a bad idea. How about we amend this to something more like “Your cold dead hands will NOT be collecting my guns”.

          • “They came for my guns and I just said NO! until I was out of ammunition.”

      25. Reading about this and seeing it on the news it appears that these criminals had more then just theft on their minds. She locked herself in her bedroom and fired as one entered the bedroom door not the outside door. This poor young woman lost her husband to cancer on Christmas day. She was also on the phone for 20 minuets with 911. So much for police protection. If she was not armed there is no doubt that she would have been raped and quite possibly murdered along with her child.

Good riddance to the dirt bag.

      26. Thats just terrible. Shooting and killing a poor intruder. Why didn’t you invite him in and try to reason with him. Maybe his feelings where hurt by someone. Maybe he was unloved as a child or had issues with his sexual identity. Oh pray that our Dear Leader is re-elected for another four years so he can make the whole world smell like cocoa puffs and sugar.

      27. R.I.H. scumbag

      28. Well at least now she knows that she doesn’t have to call 911 to pop a bad guy. Sorry bad guys a 50 cent cure to save the taxpayers a bunch of money. And the possibility some scum bag lawyer will get you off and let you loose again.

      29. Apt words “Nothing more dangerous that a woman with a child…!”

        Power to her!
Wonder if she used the 12g or handgun…

Sadly in Australia she would probably be charged with Man II for “not running away” and spend $50K in legal bills…

        \Brad

        • Hey Brad,
          I owe you a big KUDOS/Thumbs up!
          You’re probably thinking…WTF for?!?
Well, when I first discovered this site…your post regarding an emergency ‘solar-voltaic’ system captured my attention.

I’d recently been informed by the DNR & Dept of Interior, that I couldn’t damn up the small brook @ the bottom of my property! My intent was to create approx 2-3 acre pond(10-15ft deep) w/ a spillway incorporating 2 Pelton turbines driving PC regulated alternators(preliminary design).
My plans were nixed because my property falls within some goobermint bio-diversity watershed exclusion zone…yet 300yds downstream is an active beaver damn!!!
          Go figure!!!

…anyway, I’ve purchased the solar panels, charge controller & the TRACE Inverter should arrive next week.

          Question:)
What mfg/type batteries do you recommend? Any additional advice would be appreciated. Thanks again!

          • Trojan Only the best.

        • She used the shotgun.

          • She lived in the U.S. where you can use your brain and own a gun.

          • Daisy,

The mission of the defensive pistol is to provide immediate protection against unexpected, life-threatening criminal violence. Unexpected is the point. Forewarned, one would go out of his way to avoid the situation, while calling in the gendarmes; or if that were impossible, he would fetch a rifle or shotgun, which are decidedly more effective tools for repelling boarders than any pistol

            DPS

            • Exactly so, DPS. A pistol is a defensive weapon while a rifle is an offensive weapon. Shotguns? Hard to say but one thing NOT in doubt is their effectiveness as a deterrent or as a criminal stopper. While my .45 Colt Combat Commander is a fine defensive weapon, my Mossy 500 with 8 rounds of #4 buck is definitely more impressive. From 15 feet away, that bore probably looks as if it is about 3″ in diameter.

      30. They should give her a reward for saving all us tax payers a ton of money! I say $100k should help her get started. If they had rewards for such brave acts we would have ZERO CRIME!

        • That’s a great idea. They should hand out guns to all defenseless law abiding citizens that do not have them and reward anyone who shoots and kills a criminal!

pretty much put a stop to ALL crime. we would then not need the government or police to protect us at all. the perfect system is when all citizens can defend themselves equally.

          • SteveO,

The Swedish government does give a rifle to everybody, plus the train them to use it.

        Love it!!

        Y’all Beware!

        • No lazer required. Come and get-sum. We’re in here.

      32. I wonder did she use the 12 gauge or the pistol? My wife won’t even shoot the shotgun. Awesome.

        • She may if she feels the urge… A man with a knife may convince her.

      33. The first feel good story of the year. God bless you!

        • Here in Massachusetts I would have confiscated her weapon. God bless the government!

          • That’s no funny. That’s damn funny!

        • Can I take you out for dinner? I’d like to ask you 100 questions. Bring your husband too!

        • I would let the blue helmets in, but I’m only a lawyer.

        • Why’s everybody picking on me. Viva La Mexico!

      34. this woman did the right thing Attttta Boy & good shootin if we all did this without asking questions when someone enters our domain well we would be down10% less criminals.
take this as a lesson a lesson that we need to send to the government that we are tired of the criminals gettin away with crimes & we are tired of the bullshit laws that protect them. complain to the legislature every day of the week.

Just glad it happened in a free state as opposed to well…y’all know where the leftist theory prevails:

Gun Control: The theory that a woman found dead in an alley, raped and strangled with her panty hose, is somehow morally superior to a woman explaining to police how her attacker got that fatal bullet wound.

      36. Daisy,
I make a glow in the dark sticker that has a picture of a P220 Sig and it says:
        SIG SECURE.
It’s on the left rear window of my vehicle as a deterrent and is also for safety. People stare at it especially at as they don’t know WTF is going on! They walk away.

      38. There was a story yesterday about a 14 yr old young man who also shot (and I think, killed) one of 2 intruders who broke into the house where he and his sister were hiding. He was also on the phone with 911 dispatch when he did the shooting. I listened to the 911 call – the young man remained cool, calm and collected through it all. He was most concerned with protecting his sister, and then at the end, with whether the intruder was still alive.

The bad guys are definitely still be being bad guys, but the populace (including 2 teenagers!!!) are evidently not inclined to put up with it! Way to go!!

      39. Daisy,
We are working on some glow in the dark products. See http://www.gloers.com for starters.

        We can play from there.

        Y’all Beware!

      40. That was certainly a better (better outcome) story than the one I heard on the radio today about an eight year old being shot to death by police as he waived a weapon at them.

        And We, Like Sheep….

        http://freedominourtime.blogspot.com/2009/06/and-we-like-sheep.html

… They never did say what kind of weapon it was, I’d bet it was a slice of pizza with just the right bite missing. Psft.

Which reminds me,… today as I was sitting in my car waiting for a group of what looked like 10 year old boys walking across the street after school let out, I saw one boy with a great big smile on his face lift his arms up and make like he was shooting a rifle at nothing in particular while pulling a trigger repeatedly,… he’d just stepped onto the sidewalk across from the school where he was “more free” so he could do that without being attacked by the bully-thug-cops/school principle/whatever.

I smiled and drove on. Ahh, those were the days, but I couldn’t imagine how it’s like nowadays, what with being treated like lab rats in a cage or something like that.

Now that I look back on it, he was lucky, he was still in “the school zone” and they still might’ve taken him down.

Just another day in the land of the free?

The boys who throw spit-wads in class are prolly disappeared these days, eh?

        Food fight felony?

The dispatcher in the newstory said, “I can’t tell you that you can do…” I Wonder why that is?

        • “The dispatcher in the newstory said, “I can’t tell you that you can do…” I Wonder why that is?”

Because the dispatcher did not want to be charged with inciting a felony or dispensing legal advice? A comment like “yeah, go ahead and shoot him”, appropriate as it might seem, could be used against the dispatcher in court or on the job. At the very least, it might get him or her fired.

      41. If you are not allowed a gun a good bow and those razor sharp arrows can take em down as well. Just have to be a perfect shot if their close because its a lot harder to reload one arrow at a time.

      42. What this brave young lady did was…pass the ultimate survival test. Sure, its called/termed ‘self-defense or justifiable homicide’ in legalese weasel-speak, but it boiled down to ‘SURVIVAL & PROTECTION of PROGENY’!

      43. Tennessee also has a castle law. I believe you can even defend personal property such as your car. Probably why we don’t have many break-ins when folks are home. Its called suicide. However, we have plenty of Meth heads which don’t care. Majority of crime it seams anymore is drug related and if they are high I,m sorry but they don’t feel pain or have remorse or care what they do to you in order to get their next fix. I do not want to send anyone on to their eternal destination but a father protecting his wife and 2 kids does not feel pain or remorse for the individual threatening my family. I live in a rural county and it could very easily take over 20 minutes for a response due to the size of my county and it is probably small compared to a county out west. So before we raise hell that it took the cops so long to respond, if it is a rural county, the sheriff could go straight to the call but still be several miles away. They can only do so much with limited resources so this is lesson to not only have a fire arm but also enough of a door to slow them down long enough to lock n load and then save the tax payers a trial.

        (2) She has our sympathy for her loss.

        (3) Please, never ask the State for permission to defend yourself.

        (4) If ever facing a situation where you reasonably fear for your life or serious bodily harm, DEFEND YOURSELF without asking or even blinking. The more we think about it, the more we hesitate, the more we ask, the MORE LIBERTY THE STATE WILL STEAL! Act, don’t ponder.

        (5) And if the State does not like it, then my advice (and I hope I have the courage of my convictions) is to play like Charleton Heston, and tell the State that they can have my weapon when they “pry it from my dead, cold hands.”

      50. This is the coming scenario, when food is scarce and sheople are desperate. A locked door may only give you enough time to load, aim, and be ready. We could never allow them to take away our right to defend our homes and Family. It’s articles like this, that will keep the PTB from stripping us of our right to bear arms.

This young woman was calm and ready to protect her baby, with only that thought in mind. She is a hero.

      51. she did this moron a good turn: she kept his name off the repeat offender list…

      52. I’m happy for this young lady’s situation turning out the way it did, rather than the way it could have been with her being raped, murdered.

I feel for her state of mind post scenario, not an easy thing to deal with, trauma.

For us, in Texas, we shoot first if threatened. We do not ask permission. O
F course we use common sense and give the appropriate response to the threat, we just don’t shoot in every situation….lol…but that will be the way some liberal tales my comment. F-them.

I’m stillwaiting to hear which 9mm you got for your daughter??
          DPS

          • It is a steel frame ?Hungarian? made 9mm, double stacking clip, so 14+ and not sure of model number. I bought it from a co-worker a few years ago and it hits whatever it is aimed at. You know, one of thos epistols that just SEEMS to be acuurate no matter what!

It is why I gave it to her. Because of its inherent accuracy. She has been practicing with a Ruger 22 and has fired my P220 45.

            Yah buddy!

            • Terry,

Cool me daughter really like my 92fs Beretta over my sigma 9mm, but she a very small young lady I need to find her something a little smaller. But for in the house I got her the 12 gauge mossberg maverick, cut the barrel down to 20″ and she loves it. She goes to school at U.N.T. so right now she carries her pink tazer. Funny stuff bada-s little tazer.

      54. To think that Americans think they have to ask to shoot someone if they storm in their home with a knive is crazy. Asking to use your second Amendment is not nessicary at all, not one bit. Sure call the opporator if you need to to feel someone is there for you and to report it is okay I guess, but to ask to use your Second Amendement is a little outrageous. Americans need to know and have the right to know their Constitutional Rights.

      55. RWS III,

      60. Maam…if you dont mind me say’in, im sorry that it happen to you, you are a hero to all who hears and reads about this, no regrets, no remorse. your my hero!

      61. deo vendici – good shooting…

      62. This how I now argue with anti gun people. No more PC BS no more nice talk.

Anti gunner: Why do you feel you need a gun?
Me: Because I might have to kill some mother fucker!

Anti gunner: Why do you need a semi auto AR15 with 30 rnd magazines?
Me:Because I might have to kill a bunch of mother fuckers!

Anti gunner: why do you need night vision?
Me: because I might have to kill some mother fucker in the dark!

Anti gunner: Why do you need your sniper rifle?
Me: Because I might need to kill some mother fucker a kilometer away?

        • Anti-gunner: Why do you believe you should be able to have armor piercing rounds?
Me: Because I might have to shoot some mother fucker hiding behind a wall!

      63. Strong emotions on this blog. Irrational. “Sir, the only thing I feel when I kill is the recoil of my rifle.”
Do you guys curse cockroaches in your kitchen when you kill them, or do you just exterminate them. Such glee at death. Be careful or you might kill the wrong person. Never kill with passion. Kill clinically, surgically, coldly.

        Just a word of caution.

Indeed, so happy this woman and her child are alive and well because of her clinical extermination of this degenerate human. She was cautious, thoughtful, and deliberate. We should all take a lesson from her.

      64. Sigh…

“McKinley was on the phone with 911 for a total of 21 minutes.”

Twenty-one minutes and still no officer shows up? Fail.

      65. Wow 21 minutes. I heard her husband died around christmas of cancer.I do beleive.I would hope she is getting some help now.I would love to do something if only a little to help this woman and her child. If any one know’s how please post it and .I will be one to help.May her and her child have peace and love if not from people around her, from us at least it is something.

      66. Just for the fact that she would “ask for permission” from the 911 operator shows how sheep-like & conditioned Americans are when confronted with using their natural right “as human”, as part of the animal kingdom” or as “living beings” to kill to defend themselves.
NEVER ask permission from ANY bureaucrat to defend your life.

      67. I watched the entire ABC video. what is amazing is that ABC even considered the possibility that the mother could have been wrong for shooting the intruder. Once someone breaks the perimeter of my residence I am pulling the trigger. Better to be judged by 12 than carried by six.

      68. And latest news, the “authorities” released the surviving perp on $50K bond within a couple of days. This on the same week that Obama signed into law legislation authorizing indefinite and unjustified detention of American citizens on any politician’s whim. This lady was on the phone to “authorities” half an hour begging for help and got none… from a government that taxes us to death for what? The juxtaposition of these two data points prove the illegitimacy of our government like nothing else before ever has. If the government taxes us and yet can’t even make a half-hearted effort to perform its most sacred duty of protecting its citizenry, what good is it?

      69. Too bad Oklahoma City is so far from Denver.
This lady has a standing invitation to join our group, we can always use a cool head that can do what needs to be done for what is coming.

      70. Her 58-year old husband had died the week before of cancer, the two men wanted to get ahold of what was left of his pain medication, the dead assailant had been there on the day of the funeral and the 29th. The two spent 20 minutes forcing the trailer door, which was blocked by a sofa. On entry, the girl shot the one with the large knife, the other fled when his partner dropped. The other man is now in custody and will be charged with felony murder, since his buddy was killed in the crime they jointly commmitted. The probability of the girl being raped and killed was undoubtedly high.

She probably asked if it was legal to shoot the intruder due to the publicity given the Oklahoma pharmacist trial, where a victim who shot a robber, then got another pistol to shoot him again, was convicted of murder.

        • smokey,
I remember that story of the Oklahoma pharmacist If I recall the pharmacist shot the man 6 times and got the other gun and shot him twice more alittle over kill but it is what it is.

          DPS

“You can say ‘stop’ or ‘alto’ or use any other word you think will work but I’ve found that a large-bore muzzle pointed at someone’s head is pretty much the universal language” Point being he needed a bigger gun.

      71. Yes, that IS the way that it is supposed to work but so often does not. In some jurisdictions, the district attorney can decide whether or not to prosecute the home owner, either for shooting some poor misunderstood youth or for the mere possession of a firearm. In some cases, this means “Which is more politically advantageous to me, prosecuting or not?”… and that’s a helluva poor way to run a railroad, as they say.

      72. “She called 911 and was told that police couldn’t come because the situation was “too dangerous”.”

Well, tell’em to lace up their panties a little tighter and GTF OVER HERE RTF NOW!

      73. It’s about time that Criminal Element 1.0 realizes that Gun Culture 2.0 is tired of cowering in the corner. Women in this country are getting armed and trained.

      74. It has been a couple of days and the MSM continues to cover this young lady’s story. Frankly, I think it’s about time, and thankfully she is lives in a castle state.

It is heartening to see folks are supportive of her. I think if she had even the slightest hint of guilt or shame or was worried about her soul in any way for shooting the intruder once the support from folks who have heard her story poured in, it is certainly gone now.

The other relevant thing is that the would-be intruder who ran away is now being charged with first-degree murder for this young lady shooting his partner and she is in the clear!

        • The law in many states is such that if your involved in a crime where someone is killed then you are charged with murder.

There might be a case made where the above rational is flawed. It is most certainly not in this case.

The intention of those two men was not theft. The opportunity for theft was presented for ample time. Their intention was far worse.

      75. She better move away from there.

The intruder’s friend will come back.

And this time he won’t be alone.

        • The intruders friend will not return. He has no loyalty, he is a scumbag. He is just happy that he is alive. He knows that he would be suspect number one if she was attacked.

          • No Kevin2 he has allready turned himself in…

        • That blade of reason cuts both ways…

Maybe the intruders friend AND HIS FAMILY should move away because the victims psycho friends hold his mommy and sister responsible for raising him.

      76. This is an example of what the Second Amendment is about, defending of property, self and loved ones with arms. I am proud of her.

      77. I’m happy this lady was able to defend herself but I’m not happy that so many commenters are cheering about killing someone. What’s wrong with you people. That poor woman had to take a life, she will never be the same.

        • Actually, she is going to be alive, along with her infant. Viewing an interview with her on television, she did not appear to be much troubled by traumatic guilt or angst, which is entirely appropriate.

        • That woman took a life of a person that was going to take hers why wouldn’t u be happy would u rather the woman and baby die. Come on how dumb are you. The guy came at her with a knife do u think he had good intentions?? Think about it u idiot

      78. Sudden death is too easy…

No hands, no feet, no eyes, no tongue, no ears, also assures an even greater justice and no possibility of ever doing it again.

Now the State can release the creature in my neighborhood, with my complete approval.

      79. 21 minutes? Where were the police? Ah yes, no donut shop close by.

      80. Why should she or anyone else feel bad about such a killing? It’s perfectly natural, perfectly normal, healthy, and good to kill those who threaten you and/or your young.

Killing is normal. Killing is good!

I wouldn’t have lost any sleep about it. Hell, I’d have cut off the head for a trophy!
