Geomagnetic Solar Storm Approaches: What To Expect

by | Sep 11, 2018 | Headline News | 22 comments

A massive hole has opened up in the Sun’s corona, which means we’re officially on watch for a geomagnetic storm.  Auroras will be likely across much of North America as the sun heads into a solar minimum.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has issued a storm watch for a G2-level solar storm on September 11. That’s a moderate storm on the 5-level scale, with G5 being the highest, according to Science Alert.  We’re currently heading into a solar minimum, the least active period of the Sun’s 11-year cycle. That means there will be a much lower sunspot, coronal mass ejection, and solar flare activity.

If you are one of those who loves seeing the aurora borealis or the “Northern Lights,” have your camera handy, because it could be a beautiful show. As the holes open up in the Sun’s corona, although these are cooler, less dense regions of plasma in the Sun’s atmosphere, they are also more dramatic with open magnetic fields. These open regions allow the solar winds to escape the Sun’s surface more easily, blowing electromagnetic radiation into space at high speeds. If Earth is in the way of those solar winds, we could experience some intense outcomes.

While the effects of this wind will be slightly stronger than those of a G1 storm, according to Science Alert, they’ll probably pass most of us by. High-latitude power systems may experience voltage alarms due to surges from geomagnetically induced currents, and longer storms can cause transformer damage, but it looks like this storm will be a relatively short one. According to the British Met Office, the solar winds could travel at speeds of up to 600 kilometers per second (372 miles per second) in the next two days.

Spacecraft operations may be affected as the storm impedes GPS, which means corrections may need to be issued by ground control. And high-frequency radio propagation can fade at high latitudes.

The biggest effect will probably be the light show since the solar winds are responsible for auroras. As they blow in from space, they interact with charged particles (mainly protons and electrons) in our magnetosphere.

These charged particles then rain into the ionosphere and travel along the planet’s magnetic field lines to the poles, where interactions with other particles, such as oxygen and nitrogen, manifest as dancing lights in the sky. –Science Alert

According to a map released by NOAA, the auroras resulting from this storm will likely be visible from Alaska, as well as the states across the United States’s Northern border with Canada and as far south as Iowa and Illinois. There will also be aurora australis visible from Antarctica.

We had a beautiful double rainbow that made an arch which was incredible, a complete half circle starting from our location, going up and extending for miles. I don’t think I’ve ever seen one like it ever before.

        B from CA,

I saw one last week that spanned the Mississippi river and then noticed there was a fainter double rainbow! I too took pictures and was delighted.

After surviving Katrina, I can really feel for those good folks on the east coast. This month promises to be active hurricane season. Gordon was a non-hurricane for us but it did drop a lot of water elsewhere.

Nothing can be more miserable than being cold-wet-and-hungry. I have had my share and don’t wish it on anybody. If you can prepare for those three hardships, you are doing well. Insects, mosquitos, snakes, and other critters should be of concern as well. Down here, alligators have been seen in the neighborhood.

There is too much complacency. This is a good time for getting ready for the lean times. I like your idea about planting gardens and edible trees.

It’s our weekly solar storm the sky is falling post.

ArmageddonProof yep, a level 2 is not something that has not happened many times and even worse with no ill affect on our grid or whatever ? In fact we are entering a period of very low sun spot activity, assuming we can believe the supposed scientists ?

Today I believe very little to nothing from science or any government entity or any of the tech masters of the universe like Goog, FB, Twitter or any of those PRAVDA/MSM participants of the DEM/DSA ! PRAVDA/MSM is simply the propaganda arm of the deeps state and the DNC. And obvious fear porn plays into it as well for click bait.

What has happened is the control freaks of PRAVDA/MSM now use supposed science, like supposed global warming and all weather as a tool of propaganda. In the end it is all Trumps fault, right ? Does anybody actually believe we humans can affect the workings of the sun and therefore our actual weather outcomes here on this planet ? The simple truth is we can all be wiped out in the blink of an eye for many reasons that are totally put of our control and yes the sun is one of them. Or we could have another Carrington event or some such thing, we simply do not know ? Seems to me a nuke plant is far more important and likely to be concerned about because we have many here in USA that are the same exact design as FUKU. Some sitting directly on major EQ faults ? So just how smart are the scientists ? Beyond all that are humans destroying the oceans ?

The only thing that makes any sense at all is to focus on your own health, fitness training/skills, well being and mindset ! All else is a fools errand, bigly ! The simple truth so we all live under many illusions created for us.

I would counsel that all should be prepared at all times, since we cannot rely on the “authorities” to be accurate, or in cases of political matters, truthful. While CME’s are not a political matter, scientists have misread many things on their way to reporting them. On today of all days, it was not suspected by most that moslems would use aircraft as attack weapons, and fly them into buildings to cause mass murder. But the most powerful nation in the world with supposedly the best intelligence agencies was outwitted by some ragheads with box cutters. And there were clues all over the place about that one. One obvious one was that the moslems did just what they said they would do. Be prepared however you can for CME’s or EMP’s. To rely on the Govt. is to invite disaster.

Sean, agree 100% , but no need to freak either. If things come unglued, just defend yourself and carry out your plans A,B,C,D or whatever is needed.

Most people, are still consumed in the many illusions they live in and afraid of their own shadow.

The sun will fry out asses for certain, but off topic, not sure if you all have been keeping up with the rogue killer cop, MS 13 Look a like meth head criminal.

COPS ARE LITERALLY OUT OF CONTROL

Yawn, MS 13, possible methhead cop lookalike and possible bull dike cop Amber Gyger, claims that black man disobeyed demands told to him, after she barged into his apartment, shoots him twice in the chest. From what I heard, all hell is breaking loose in Dallas, and this could be the trigger that ignites civil war 2.

Take a look at this piece of shit thug MS13 look a like cop, and possible lesbian man hater who murdered that black guy, who worked for one of the biggest Risk management Insurance carrier. Not only did the cop lie to her own police department, other witness heard her yelling outside the victims door, let me in, let me, then he opened the door and asked her why, then they hear he shoot him twice, proving that she lied about seeing a dark silloutte in the corner, and claimed to have accidentally entered the wrong apartment. That officers have a special key, that can enter any apartment. How irresponsible.. So being home while black in now a new crime? Interesting

      Man slaughter charges my ass.

This bitch should not be in position of a fire arm and is not fit to wear the Uniform. How insulting to the good cops out there. Bad cops ruin the reputation of good cops everyday in this country.

      HCKS.

      • jackdaniels

Katy, you are assuming that there are good cops. It has been said (I don’t remember who)”If there were any good cops, the bad cops would be face-down in a ditch”.

      • Anonymous

Nobody saw any red flags with this cop? A lesson here is keep your door locked and dead bolted so you don’t wind up dead.

      • Comanche

The cop chick was probably just giving “pay back” to her Ex-boyfriend and saying she accidentally capped his ass, thinking he was an intruder in her crib…

seriously, these solar storms happen all the time. this is normal stuff not worth reporting on. coronal holes on the sun send solar winds at us when ever the face our direction. Normal and not serious. Gives nice aurea borealis in the far north but that is it.

    7. Traitor Hator

Some say a lined steel trash can stops cell phone signals. But a big EMP ? Maybe three slightly smaller separated , three layers of steel. Copper ,then aluminum screen is cheaper. I wonder if you have to go multilayered regardless ? Wrap your radio , charger, whatever, with aluminum foil, then paper then aluminum foil ,and again to get 3 layers separated. Microwave ovens stop microwaves from getting out , as, so getting in. Broken or not.

    8. Zork

Hahaha! Foolish puny Earthlings! Bow in your insignificance! Your fearsome neighbor is about to let you know who the boss is in this parsec.

      • Zarg

Yum! They’ll be fried to a crisp.

    9. HSaive

There is no solar emergency. The opening is a quire routine “coronal hole”…not a big scary solar flare with threat of EMP. The result of the coronal hole has been measured as a level 1 disruption with modest perturbations to earth’s surface.

    10. HSaive

Massive coronal holes are quite routine observations. Subscribe to youtuber, Suspicious 0bservers to learn more.

Anyone heard anything further about the black choppers securing 6-7 solar array telescopes? Something to do with FBI from what I heard. It would not surprise me if cover was being created for a man-made (deep state) attack from forces keen on diversion from widespread treason prosecution.

They’re talking about a massive solar minimum which would then most likely lead to famines.

      https://www.thenewamerican.com/tech/environment/item/28254-scientists-warn-of-sun-conditions-similar-to-the-little-ice-age

If you know any history, the solar min that caused the little ice age was very rough in places like England and the Scandanavian countries. They all but lost contact with colonies started in Iceland and in the New World in North America and passages that allowed the Vikings to get to America were covered with ice flows.

Crop yields plummeted. People froze to death in already cold regions as they were worse than normal winters.

Place like Kentucky where a gardener gets three seasons of growth ie Spring, Summer, and Fall which have ineffect two cold weather cabbage family crops or peas or spinach, might only have one season that will support crops.

That would cause food inflation most assuredly and obvious famine. As the USA produces a lot of food sold internationally, the entire world’s food prices would be affected.
