As more people seek safe, natural remedies for health concerns – and as more states legalize medical cannabis – interest in cannabidiol (commonly known as “CBD”) is growing. Yet another issue that CBD may help with is sleep disorders, ranging from insomnia to sleep apnea and more.

    Here’s how CBD works.

In case you don’t know much about CBD and how it works, here’s a brief overview.

CBD is one of over 100 naturally-occurring compounds called cannabinoids which are found in cannabis plants. Hemp and marijuana are both Cannabis sativa plants, but there are significant differences between them.

    • Cannabis is a genus of flowering plants in the family Cannabaceae.
    • Cannabis refers to a plant family that includes hemp and marijuana (and many other plants).
    • Hemp is a variety of cannabis that is used for many purposes and contains very low levels of THC. Hemp does not produce a “high.”
    • Marijuana is a variety of cannabis that contains high levels of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol, or “The High Causer”), the cannabinoid most known for its psychoactive properties

CBD is the same whether it is sourced from hemp or from marijuana.

Our bodies are hard-wired for CBD.

Cannabinoids are a diverse set of chemical compounds that bind to special receptors in the human body that make up what is known as the endocannabinoid system.

The endocannabinoid system is a biological system which plays many important roles in the human body. It is responsible for the physical and psychological effects of cannabis.

We recommend Organica Naturals CBD products (which are made from hemp) for their consistently high quality.

The list of conditions CBD has been shown to benefit is extensive and continues to grow as more research is conducted. To learn about promising research on the use of CBD for a few of them please click here: Chronic Pain, Arthritis, Anxiety, Depression, or Alzheimer’s? Science Says CBD May Help.

Both OTC and prescription sleep medications are risky.

Millions of people have chronic sleep difficulty, but most sleep medications are risky.

Desperate for a good night’s sleep and better daily functioning, many people turn to medications for help. Unfortunately, many “sleeping pills” can cause very serious side effects.

According to the Cleveland Clinic, possible side effects include oversleeping, being too drowsy to drive or perform other tasks the following day, allergic reactions, and facial swelling. In addition, a particularly disturbing side effect is possible:

With some prescription sleeping pills, doing potentially dangerous activities such as eating, walking, leaving your house, having sex, making phone calls, carrying on conversations, or driving while you are not fully awake. You may not even be aware of these activities as you are doing them in your sleep. (source)

Long-term use of sleeping pills can lead to dependence and addiction. Overuse can cause serious health consequences, including memory problems, mental and behavioral disorders, learning problems, and worse insomnia (beyond the initial baseline) once use has stopped.

    Can’t sleep? CBD may help.

If you are among the millions of people who experience sleep difficulty, CBD may be just the thing to help you stop tossing and turning.

growing body of research suggests CBD has powerful anti-anxiety properties and antidepressant-like effects and may reduce inflammation and pain, so if any of those things are interfering with your sleep, CBD may help.

A 2017 research review reported that studies on cannabis and insomnia suggest that “CBD may have therapeutic potential for the treatment of insomnia”, and that it “may hold promise for REM sleep behavior disorder and excessive daytime sleepiness.”

Other studies have found that CBD may increase overall sleep amounts. It has been shown to reduce insomnia in people who suffer from chronic pain. In smaller doses, CBD stimulates alertness and reduces daytime sleepiness, which is important for daytime performance and for the strength and consistency of the sleep-wake cycle.

CBD is promising for many types of sleep-related problems.

According to a recent report published by Project CBD, “CBD and other plant cannabinoids show promise for treating insomnia, sleep apnea, narcolepsy, and other sleep-related disorders.”

Here are some highlights from that report:

Our ability to be awake, fall asleep, stay asleep and wake up feeling rested is part of an internal biological process regulated by circadian rhythms and the endocannabinoid system.

As the primary homeostatic regulator of human physiology, the ECS plays a major role in the sleep-wake cycle and other circadian processes.

Italian scientist Vicenzo DiMarzo summarized the broad regulatory function of the endocannabinoid system in the phrase “Eat, sleep, relax, protect and forget.” (source)

What is particularly fascinating about CBD is that it can be alerting or sedating depending on dosage. Project CBD explains:

The association between low-dose cannabidiol and increased wakefulness underscores CBD’s potential as a treatment for narcolepsy and other variants of excessive daytime sleepiness.

Curiously, CBD can help people fall asleep as well as stay awake. An insomnia study indicated that the administration of 160 mgs of CBD decreased nighttime sleep interruptions and increased total sleep time, suggesting that high-dose CBD therapy can improve the quality and duration of sleep. (source)

According to a report from The Sleep Doctor, CBD may help reduce REM behavior disorder in people with Parkinson’s disease:

REM behavior disorder is a condition that causes people to act out physically during dreaming and REM sleep. Typically, during REM, the body is largely paralyzed, a state known as REM atonia. This immobilization keeps sleepers from reacting physically to their dreams. In REM behavior disorder, this paralysis doesn’t occur, leaving people free to move—which can lead to disruptive sleep and to injuring themselves or their sleeping partners. Cannabis may also work to reduce pain and improve sleep quality in people with Parkinson’s disease. (source)

A study published in 2018 investigated the effects of CBD and other cannabis compounds on insomnia. Researchers collected data from more than 400 volunteers using a digital app, which allowed them to analyze the effects of CBD and other cannabinoids in people’s natural sleep environments. They found CBD significantly reduced insomnia symptoms.

How much CBD should be taken for sleep?

There is no standard dosage for CBD, and it can be effective therapeutically at a wide range of doses. Because CBD binds to so many different receptors, it is difficult to pinpoint an exact dosage for every person and every wellness concern.

A range of doses from 10 mg to 600 mg and higher amounts has been studied in scientific research, for sleep problems, anxiety, depression, stress, and other conditions.

Studies have shown low doses of CBD can mildly increase wakefulness and higher doses (160 mgs of CBD, in one of the studies referenced above) have been shown to improve the quality and duration of sleep. Many people report that taking a CBD-rich product a few hours before going to bed makes getting a good night’s sleep a lot easier.

It is important to keep in mind that CBD dosing truly is individual. For that reason, starting with a low dosage will allow you to slowly adjust until you feel that your sleep quality has improved. Because CBD is safe, generally well tolerated, and not psychoactive like THC, high doses are sometimes necessary for best results.

Unlike prescription and over-the-counter sleep medications, CBD has not been shown to be habit-forming or physically addictive.

CBD is a very safe substance and is well-tolerated. However, it can interfere with certain medications. Please consult with your healthcare provider if you are taking prescription drugs and would like to take CBD.

      1. I don’t have much trouble sleeping, but if I did, revelations of this type would keep me up. True? Who knows, but if so, Trump had me fooled with his non-interventionist campaign promises and is just another neocon swamper.

Page 136 of Andrew McCabe’s new book where he was in an oval office meeting with the president in 2017:

“Then the president talked about Venezuela. That’s the country we should be going to war with, he said. They have all that oil and they’re right on our back door.”

So. It’s not about socialism and humanitarian relief. It’s been planned for years to take the oil. It’s just as I have been saying. All wars are resource wars.

        • Don’t want to kiss any R on the mouth….

          • Well, like I said, I don’t know if it’s true or not. However, with the way Trump, Bolton, and Abrams are threatening Venezuela, I’m inclined to think it is something he could have said.

        • You mean you`re going to believe a lying democrat? What a fool!

      3. Jesus recommends Marijuana over hemp for better experience.

      4. Yup, It’s not about socialism and humanitarian relief, rather, it’s about Power and Control. I was going to look for a slot to post about how the poster on this website who goes by the name of, ‘Durango Kid’ is an absolute coward for not posting his real name and his credentials to back up what he is saying in support of the Power Elite and their system, but you kind of fleshed it out here, the people who want to put the boot on your neck and who refuse to see how the power structure really is, like to hide in the shadows.

      5. BENADRYL® Allergy (diphenhydramine) Tablets are often used as sleep aids because they can cause marked drowsiness (alcohol, sedatives, and tranquilizers may increase drowsiness).

I use this to transition to one of the most important prepper YouTube videos I have ever seen. It is based upon a recent study conducted by the DOD and FDA.

      6. If you have troube sleeping, drink a warm glass of milk wth honey before bedtime. If that fails, heat an 1/8 cup of almond oil and rub that in your hair. Between the two, you will fall asleep.

Heck, maybe all you need is some romantic intimacy from your spouse.

Guys generally need it to be cool in the bedroom with fresh air to get a good night’s sleep. Being a little cold helps.

        • 3Xy1d39V3Gw
1.5 hours before bedtime, make sword cuts using an inexpensive white oak bokken (but obviously you canuse a katana). It’s great exercise and a decent way to practice swordsmanship. I promise you that you will sleep as it’s exhausting.

        • When it’s cold and you can’t sleep, just get nice and cold either sitting at the kitchen table or going outside with minimal garb. You want to get cold so t-shirt n night pants or whatever inside, a little heavier outside. Get as cold as you can until you can’t stand it then run into bed. Works for me every time.

If it’s hot, 1-2 piss warm beers. Works pretty well.

        • When little ones can’t sleep, have your wife spray a little drop of her perfume on their pillow. They are conforted by the scent and fall fast asleep. It’s plain old common sense.

Our summer camp counselors would play soft music like Enya, who is a Celtic vocalist, and the kids would go right to sleep. Out like a light. It worked like a charm.

If you have a colicky baby who takes juice, a mild 1/3 portion can be chamomile tea, which has been used for hundreds of years as a very mild sedative. He or she will calm down and the poor mother can take a much needed nap.

      7. “Cannabinoids are a diverse set of chemical compounds that bind to special receptors in the human body that make up what is known as the endocannabinoid system.”
What you call the biological system that likes opiates and Endorphins so much? Your nervous system.
Any drug is dangerous, use them with great caution.
While I was in the military I learned how to sleep anywhere,
how to fall asleep quickly, and how to stay awake.
Sleep to some extent is a learned skill.
        Practice make perfect.

        .

        • Me too. I can sleep anywhere. All those deployments taught how to get some zzzz’s

      8. Make sure to drink your Ovaltine….

      9. My solution for sleep problems is simple and doesn’t cost a dime. I have an old clock radio at my bedside and I tune in to National Public Radio when I have trouble sleeping, LOL. It WORKS. Commie propaganda always helps me sleep, LOL.

      10. A deficiency of calcium and magnesium can cause insomnia. That is why milk at bedtime is often prescribed. In order for calcium to do it’s job, magnesium is required. Modern supplements of calcium are paired with magnesium. Soaking in a bath with magnesium is helpful. Cheese midnight snacks aid sleep. Many vegtables have calcium.

Thick dark drapes block sunlight during the daytime if you work the midnight shift. Blue light from computers, night lights, and street lights interferes with sleep.

Arise at dawn and retire before 10:00pm. Get in a few hours before midnight and nature rewards you. Eight hours of sleep is ideal, from 10:00pm to 6:00am. Of course not everyone can, and not everyone cares to live that way.

Eat dinner at 6:00pm. Retire from your daily routine by 9:00pm. Give yourself an hour to prepare for sleep, read, and/or engage in amorous relationships. CBD? You may be able to get by without it.

        .

      11. “Because CBD binds to so many different receptors, it is difficult to pinpoint an exact dosage for every person and every wellness concern.”

You’re intentionally trying to put yourself to sleep.

Why’s there a moral dilemma, about whether it’s narcotic or a non-narcotic hemp product.

In the olden days, you were allowed to boy hard, street drugs, over-the-counter; this was not a traditional, moral panic.

They worried about the eradication efforts, affecting their water rights. You don’t have any, now.

      12. Opium, heroine, bullet to the head all aid in sleeping too.

Stop smoking your heads turned to mush!

Enya or John Michael Talbot are vocalists who sign in a calming manner as well.

      14. Taize is a very meditative Christian choral music that can be sung by anyone. Christians use to “pray the hours” at least four times a day but up to seven. You calmly approach the ELOHIM in prayer for 15-30 minutes, reflecting on their magnificence, beauty, sharing what is on your heart, praying for others, asking forgiveness, letting go of old sins, renewing your faith, making an obligation like fasting as an outward sign of your faith, etc.

        RuPcxLjVxtg
It is very healing and calming.

Some people try to “pray without ceasing” by using a breath prayer that is constantly on their mind. The most common form:

        Jesus,
        Son of the Living GOD,
        Have mercy on me
        A sinner.

And they say this hundreds or thousands of times a day just under their breath. That started in the Russian orthodox demonination among Christian mystics.

This way, all throughout the day as you do chores, you are constantly praying. Some people use a Bible verse so it gets embedded in your soul.

      15. ht tps://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canonical_hours

The practice stems from the ancient Hebrew tradition in Psalm 119:164 of praying seven times a day.

So since Christianity began and spread into The Roman Catholic, Anglican, and Orthodox faith, even in the Dark Ages, believers prayed seven times a day…not just for 45 minutes to an hour on Sunday. Every day was spent in prayer and Christian song.

So even protestants are now renewing the old historic practice. It’s something you can do quietly in any place without anyone knowing what you are doing, and hence you always feel the abiding presence of the TRINITY (ELOHIM).

What can happen is your life is so rushed that as you try to relax to fall asleep, is that in the stillness…all your worries come to mind. This is why regular conversation with GOD (YAHWEH) then releases these worries all the time, so they do not build up. Prayer is just having an intentional conversation that is sacred. It is validating the reality of Jesus Christ, not as a distant historical figure, but a constant available savior, redeemer, ally, friend, and brother.

        • That’s called vain repetition, but people repeat far worse things than Bible and prayer, imo. You can curse over everything you do, or you can bless over it.

          • Well, Hoss…then the Lord’s Prayer is vain repetition as is the 23rd Psalm!

We will have to agree to disagree.

I know where you are going as evangelicals despise the liturgical prayerbooks. But they are sacred prose and poetry at times.

            • Every hymn in every denomination has a refrain. Is that vain repetition???

            • You say it again and again and again?

That would still be better than dirty movie and music video movie lines. I think of things that might be written on a T-shirt.

              • m said, “Every hymn in every denomination has a refrain. Is that vain repetition???”

How many times, before you get the desired effect?

                • The desired effect is tranquility and joy. And there’s no reason to stop.

      16. Want the best sleep and a life of no muscular pain?

        Eat a 95+% vegan diet,
obtain a BMI of less than 24,
have sex as often as you can,
moderate exercise of at least 40 minutes daily,
no drugs, no alcohol, not even an aspirin,
don’t eat anything containing processed flour or processed corn,
keep your net carbs below 150g daily.

But common sense doesn’t sell seed banks or fear porn websites. With a healthy population would wipe out 1/7 of the US economy wasted on gluttony and heath care for the fat bastards.

Concentrate on eating to get at least 50g fiber, and slightly above 100% RDA of all the vitamins and minerals.

It is that simple, but yet I am surrounded by 90% of the adult population being fat lazy entitlement bastards too drunk watching their favorite celeb/sports man-crushes, as if any of their and their celeb-hero’s existence even matters one iota.

        • Human beings are NOT herbivores. Neither our teeth or stomach is suited for a vegan diet. We are omnivores.

The average vegan buys exotic foods that are not raised domestically which ends up causing major economic issues for villagers in 3rd world countries. It is just about the least enlightened way of living.

In history, our ancestors ate meat and fish, but based upon the seasons and preservation of these, as well as the maturity of livestock. They did not have groceries and that has ruined the American diet. It resulted in detachment of the cost of eating meat as butchering an animal was no longer necessary.

But then we are not meant to live in large cities either. Weare not meant to work for a paycheck but to raise crops and herds.

        • b said, “Eat a 95+% vegan diet”

You feed these things to the animal, and then act as though the animal is afflicted with a hundred diseases.
