Dave says he and his wife came up with a plan for escape after doing quite a bit a research, concluding that it is extremely difficult to disappear in modern society.
“There’s so much information out there on the Internet, websites, Facebook, emails, phone calls. If the State wants to come and get you, you’re going to have to basically go where you’ve never gone before, never talked about it, and disappear. And really, hard to have contact with people because of the cell phone programs and the way they can spider and catch you by – you know, you might never have even called this person, but you have a buddy that called that person. They’re going to track all that down.”
“We need a committee, an escape committee, you could call it a fugitive committee to start figuring out – if you have to hide someone, like the Underground Railroad that hid blacks during the Civil War to get them out of certain areas – we as a group of preppers in this community need to have a plan.”
At the heart of the issue is the pervasiveness of data.
Ultimately, the Southern Prepper turned the show down, despite really wanting to be part of the challenge, and the desire to bring positive attention to the skills and politics behind prepping.
“You might say: Why didn’t you do it, Dave? The reason is that, this is pretty elaborate. They’re going to have to build a profile on me and my wife. So they’re going to have access to everything, everything I’ve ever done in my life. Just like the federal government. So everyone that’s emailed me potentially could be exposed to CBS and the new show. And I could not do that. For myself I couldn’t do it, and I couldn’t ask anyone else to put up with what I was doing. Because people email me in confidence, and I could never give that confidence away. So we had to decline.
The show, while only putting together a simulation, would actually be tapping his data and records to build a profile. Even second or third degree connections to a person can give away more than is prudent about like-minded individuals in prepping and patriot communities.
The premise, while thought provoking and fun (in the context of a reality show), serves as a potent warning about the potentials of modern data mining that threaten to keep us ALL under wraps.
Even if you have gone to great pains to stay off the grid, spend cash and maintain your privacy, those connected to you could reveal enough about you to put you back on the map – as a potentially suspicious individual who lives behind a cloak in the age of total tyrannical transparency, where the technology almost sees all.

A guy I knew was on the run from the cops for 25 years. Some sort of assault charge.I didnt know it and either did anyone else. But he didnt drive. Had a little business as a handyman and just hired the local 18 year old kids to drive him around. Cops never found him. He had just moved to the next street over and rented a room for all the time. He finally turned himself in. Cops never caught him.
Handyman is nice – almost always paid in cash and can go anywhere. Lack of cash (or other non-trackable income) is the biggest obstacle for doing this. That is why the government wants electronic money. The other big obstacle is not contacting anyone you knew – but that may not be a great obstacle.
One other ‘gotcha’ to watch for – don’t buy $10,000 worth of prepaid Visa cards from your local store. They may not trace directly to you, but they will know your origin and it could be a pattern if a lot of spending from Kansas issued prepaid Visa cards show up in a small Oregon town.
That’s the thing… there are lots of folks who have managed to effectively disappear for decades. I remember a story about a dude who escaped a white-collar charge by going on the lam to Phoenix, AZ. He lived there for like 20 years unnoticed… until he got stupid and ran for office. A local reporter finally uncovered it all when an interview had ‘facts’ in it that didn’t add up. If the dude had just kept a low profile, he would have likely been just fine for the rest of his life.
Nowadays though, it would be a bit harder – your friend could do it because with his lifestyle, he needed no DL, no SSN that he had to cough up, and had no other need for any of the almost-impossible-to-fake information.
Because of modern life and the almost necessity of such info, why bother to run? I mean, unless you got friends in Central America or suchlike (and preferably in a country with no extradition treaty), there’s no real point to doing so…

I have a lot of respect and love for the Amish people and the way of the Anabaptists who were discriminated against and persecuted throughout Europe. They found refuge here in America and were generally accepted. I visited an Amish community in northern Indiana with my children and we had a wonderful time. Thank you for your insights. We will all definitely need your knowledge and understanding when the grid is down and the economy collapses. We are all in this together folks. He did not state it – directly, but it is indirectly inferred. In Lk 22:37 he tells them when they go out to spread the gospel that they are now to take a sword (their equivalent of a firearm). And, if they do not have one they were directed to go to the extreme of selling their outer cloak if needed to fund the purchase of one. For the importance and uses of their cloak you may research this. It was an extremely valuable possession for them.
Also we see Jesus encouraging a man to be ‘fully armed’ (NASB) to protect his possessions, his household, and himself (Lk 11:22). It is not to be wielded offensively, but he has given us every right to wield it defensively.

However, I have also adopted the attitude of Gen. George Patton: “no sob ever won a war by dying for his country, you win a war by making the other sob die for his”…. Hey, if the Muslims are so willing to die for what they believe, and I’m willing to accommodate them – what’s the problem?
Even with all the modern technology the military forces can bring to bare against the American civilians, history has shown TIME AND TIME again, that guerilla warfare tactics are the most effective. Take one shot and disappear… make it count… time and time again.
Some will say: “that’s not honorable.” I say stick-it. The battle slogan I embrace is this: “if you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck”.
Also, another point to consider is this – if your family is old enough and trained enough, the best way to possibly insure their safety is for every single one to go their own way… and trust that the “God appointed angels” (Psalm 91) will keep them safe “unto that day when Christ returns…”

This show “Hunted” operates on a phony premise that when these so-called hunted people are found… they will meekly surrender, smiling and go joyfully skipping off to the craft services trailer for organic burritos cooked by the production company’s personal chefs.

In fact if martial law or a tyranny situation would arise–somewhere between 3% and 8% of this country (FREEFOR–Free Force) would stand up to tyranny (10,000,000 to 19,000,000)… and these numbers completely dwarf the number that THUGFOR (Thug-Force) could muster (2 million).
Martial law and tyranny would be a short lived scenario.
I honestly hope to heaven that at least 8% do stand up. After seeing martial law during the Boston Marathon Bombing and how no one stood up was disheartening. No, matter. Regardless of how others react (or fail to) my family and I are prepared, to quote a scriptue; “As for me and my house we shall serve the Lord.”

I just finished reading Matthew Bracken’s trilogy, “Enemies Foreign and Domestic.” Impressive. If you have not read his latest article on Western Rifle Shooter, you should. Compares the Muslim invasion to the Tet Offensive. Long article but worth reading and passing forward to interested parties.
Running in real life would involve larceny. This is something they really will stay away from in the show, but that would be reality.. A stolen license plate or breaking in to a vacation house or camper would be a natural human action to take. College campuses are a great place to hide, at any age. And you can actually eat pretty well in a college cafeteria/food court setting because people generally leave their trays with unfinished food on the tables. Not that I would recommend that as a way of life, but all of these things are something to think about BEFORE you need to do it. One thing every prepper should have is a Coach shirt, preferably for a commonly used mascot team. I had an old sweatshirt that I dug out of lost and found one day after an exercise class when the weather outside had turned cold. It said “property of _____ nursing department” on it although we were far from that hospital. I realized after wearing it that people responded to the shirt favorably as well as to our real (at the time) coach shirts. It is amazing how willing people are to help you with phone calls… rides… when they think you are civically responsible. You really would have to use common sense knowing how to use that- like ” my wife took my phone by accident this morning… may I use your phone to make a text?” One thing, blind hitchiking is one of the most dangerous things you can do… man or woman. It is better to fish for rides from sports venues and places where people have their guard down and are moving in groups.

If you are tracked by dogs, set false trails to give you more time, find a ride and get out of the area. Don’t go where relatives/friends think you will go, and change clothes often- from someone who already wore the clothes.

Tests show pepper or hot pepper does not work on dogs. Going in water and dripping off molecules from you body makes your trail easier. Making a false trail may give you more time for the delay before they pick up the right trail. The only thing I know that has confused the dogs for a while is changing clothes (and shoes/socks) several people have already worn, and throw your own old clothes in a river. Dogs will take to the river to follow those old clothes with one strong human scent rather than multiple human scents mixed with a hint of your scent. What you need to do is get distance between you and the dogs, and get away in a vehicle as your best bet.

Got my ham license this month. There is a free downloadable manual at Barnes and noble and Amazon. I paid $4 for an app that repeatedly quizzed me. I only took my technician exam. I was not aware you can take all three exams the same day for $15. Based on reviews from a prepped site linked from this page I got the bao feng bf-f8hp. $50 but has more watts if needed. Got the repeaters programmed and you can download the law enforcement/open military channels to scan. Something to think about.

I think this show is designed to teach TPTB any tricks they may have overlooked. While it’s extremely difficult to disappear, it’s not impossible, in spite of all the technological advances. I just hope those with that knowledge are smart enough not to give out those secrets to win a game.
Nothing’s impossible, but the way I see it, you would have to live like a hermit, totally self-sufficient, so extremely remote, probably in a cave, that no one would then be interested in finding you anyway!

Good point. It may be ‘fun’ to evade for a few weeks, but ultimately you are measuring your current lifestyle against the lifestyle you will have while ‘on the run’. The ‘run’ lifestyle is not too pretty even for just individuals. Assuming the government is looking for ‘you’ and is not merely doing a ’round everyone up’ – then the government knows about your BOL so that is not safe.

Sticking to the theme of this post, I don’t think people have any idea how hard it would truly be to go on the run and not be caught. There are places in this country that you could go out into the woods and live undetected, but you would still have to avoid contact with anyone you came across. The one thing all of the TV reality shows have in common is you know they are going to end after a short time and you can go home. Now imagine leaving everything and everybody you care about and never having contact with them again. Never really participating in regular daily routines, because the more you do (like driving) the more likely you are to get caught. In today’s world of technology, if you are truly on the run and the government is looking for you, anything you do could result in you being caught. There would be no car, no driver license, no hunting or fishing license, no regular cell phone, no real job, no bank accounts and no real friends. You could trust no one. This is why most all convicts eventually get caught, even after 20 plus years. They screw up and make one small mistake that draws attention to themselves.

How can we follow the mandates of Romans chapter 13 if the highest ruling authority has removed the One True God from all its basic founding principals and replaced it with false gods, such as abortion, homosexuality, same-sex marriage and the most vile of of religious cults – Islam?
