Prepping For War? Army Lifts Ban On Mentally Ill And Drug Abusers To Meet Recruiting Goals

Is the United States Army preparing for a war? It certainly feels that way after they recently lifted the ban on joining by the mentally ill, cutters, and drug abusers in order to meet the recruitment quotas.

Facing extremely low recruitment levels, the U.S. Army quietly (meaning they hoped no one would notice) lifted its ban on allowing people with a history of mental illness, self-mutilation and drug abuse to serve in the military. The ban was lifted despite warnings from the industry about the risks involved. According to Fox News, the new rules green-light recruits who have bipolar disorder, depression, and issues with cutting (a process of self-harm in which a person takes a knife or razor to his or her own skin) along with those who bite, hit or bruise themselves intentionally. They also allow those with a history of drug abuse to sign up.

“I am shocked,” Craig Bryan, executive director of the National Center for Veterans Studies at The University of Utah, told Fox News. “This contradicts everything we have been working toward for the past 10-to-15 years.” Bryan says there is strong evidence to indicate self-injury is a “stepping stone to suicide” and is “the single strongest predictor of suicidal behavior.” The Army already has the highest rate of suicide when compared to all other branches of the military. The change in policy reverses an eight-year ban on the waivers following a spike of suicides.

Which begs the question: what exactly are they recruiting all these people for?

The decision to lift restrictions comes as the military looks like it will miss its goal of recruiting 80,000 new soldiers through September of 2018. This new policy was signed off in August but they never announced it, according to USA Today, which first reported on the change.

In order to hit last year’s goal of 69,000 recruits, the Army also accepted men and women who did poorly on aptitude tests, increased the number of waivers for pot use, and offered hundreds of millions of dollars in bonuses. In the fiscal year 2017, the Army paid out $424 million in bonuses, up from $284 million in 2016. In 2014, that figure was $8.2 million. According to USA Today, some of the recruits qualified for bonuses of $40,000.

The Army claims that people are overreacting and that these waivers are being “misinterpreted.” The change in waiver procedures, which means requests can be reviewed and approved by the U.S. Army Recruiting Command, or in the case of the National Guard, by the State Adjutant General, has been “widely misinterpreted,” according to Army Deputy Cheif of Staff Lt. Gen. Thomas C. Seamands. “It’s also important to note that the conditions themselves have been unfairly characterized,” he added. “For example, a child who received behavioral counseling at age 10 would be forever banned from military service were it not for the ability to make a waiver request. We’re not prepared to close the door on such individuals who are otherwise medically, mentally and physically qualified for military service,” Seamands said. “We think this is the right thing for our Army, and the selfless young men and women who wish to serve.

Dr. Joel Dvoskin, a clinical psychologist and assistant professor in the University of Arizona’s Department of Psychiatry, told Fox News he believes lifting the ban is a step in the right direction. “The label of mental illness is meaningless,” he said. “There are a ton of people who have a history of something – some kind of emotional trouble – and they are fine. There is no reason in the world they couldn’t serve in the military.” He added, “Stereotypes are pretty evil all the way around. Because of the stigma (of mental illness), we stereotype them.”

Others can see that this may be a much bigger deal than the Army is letting on. “It is a red flag,” Elspeth Ritchie, a psychiatrist who retired from the Army in 2010, said. “The question is, how much of a red flag is it?”

      1. Heck, why not? The military is everything gay and transgender now anyway! And some wonder why we can’t beat goat herders in Afghanistan! They’re really lowering the bar these days, and it’s going to take a toll.

        • Overseas “War”? no.
Domestic insurgency and martial law? yes.

Low IQ psychopaths make great brownshirts.

There was a time when being in the military honestly meant working to uphold the Constitution. That time is now over, and the few “good” ones left are ageing out or being purged. This is their replacement.

          • NEC-Wrangler, you may be right about them being used for martial law. If any of them point a weapon at me, they better be prepared to die. Same goes if I catch them trying to harm any Americans. The military has changed so much since Vietnam that I can’t recognize them as legitimate anymore.

      2. “We think this is the right thing for our Army, and the selfless young men and women who wish to serve.” This sounds like potential recruiting of people willing to fire on Americans if ordered and getting paid for it. To serve the beast.

        • Yep. Thats exactly what this is.

      3. I mean why not eh? everyone else in our government is mentally ill, and if you’ve been paying attention they all seem to be drug addicts too .. pedophiles , cokeheads, crackheads..etc

        • Every once in a while I hear the “klop” when a piece breaks away and hits the fan…

Gonna need heavy duty wipers for this one!!!

Nothing like having ptsd before you even go in…

Maybe recruit MS-13 for the special forces???

The officer ranks over the last 15-20 years have been gutted …

“Yes” men who toe the PTB party line have been installed at the crucial “mid level” ranks…

The senior ranks have seen a volley of early retirements and demotions only to be replaced by those who are “more pliant” to the needs of our ruling class…

This should really work out well???

Like my brother always says when confronted with stupidity-“Good luck with that…”

        • They started letting in mentally ill when they let the queers and trannys in.

      4. Coming from a family with many veterans – including my husband, father, father-in-law and three brother-in-laws.

        THIS IS A MISTAKE!!

        What could possibly go wrong?

      5. I had never heard the full story behind this…

The Whiskey Rebellion: How Brand New America Tore Up The Bill of Rights

“223 years ago today, “The Dreadful Night” occurred in Western Pennsylvania, after an uprising called The Whiskey Rebellion.”

        • Second President John Adams signed the Alien and Sedition Act into law in 1798. This act banned the publishing of scandalous or malicious writings against the government. I would think that a Founding Father had a good handle upon the intent of the First Amendment.

The ink wasn’t dry on the Bill Of Rights and they were already attacking it.

      6. Fudge packers, trannies, gang bangers, and now the mentally ill. This is not social engineering. This is intentional destruction for the purpose of intentional destruction.

        • Since we’ve lost all wars since the Korean war, this will be a given we will never win another. The Harbinger of judgement (Isa 9:10) began when the towers fell on 9/ll. America is over and done, Divine judgement, the anvil had dropped over the US and the EU, etc. No turning back, get house in order never trust in politicians (Trump was supposed to stop trans freaks going in the military) they lie, bribe and extort and take bribes from lobby groups. Enjoy family and what time is left.

        • Him, it’s sad but true.

        • You nailed it, Him. I’m not at all surprised (but i am quite sad) at this. There’s no other way to look at it other than an intentional program of undermining a previously honorable military.

          So upsetting ?

          Grunty

      7. These political wars that have been started don’t help recruiting. Get the hell out of the Middle East and only use troops if necessary. I was in the reserves but i wouldn’t recommend a young person to enlist now. Too many dying or getting legs blown off for no good reason. Not to mention the military is too pc now and the wave of liberal bullshit and so many kids not having sense of respect for the country. It’s not good having so many flag burners in this country. But i also don’t see it getting any better. Yes I’m a glass half empty person.

        • 1wile e.: Military recruiting is a WPA agenda to get bums off the streets and the homeless, unemployed put to work as cannon fodder and off welfare, simple as that. Bottom feeders can join up anytime.

      8. Can you say My Lai Massacre?

      9. If they took the dregs of society back in the 1980’s ( I witnessed it ), why would today be
any different? Back then it was convicted felons, gangbangers, and everything else.
        Never underestimate desperate recruiters.

      10. A drop in the standards for army recruits? Cynically, this might imply a war with the lowest IQ opponents: Middle Easterners, Somalians, etc.

Or worse, the army just needs cannon fodder.

      11. What a fucking disgrace. I have ZERO faith in this Gov’t and military anymore, NONE at all. Keep prepping, training, obtaining ammo, guns, food, etc, etc, etc…Jesus H Christ people.

      12. Combine these lower restrictions with the trans welcoming, and the bills like the “draft our daughters” act, they are definitely trying to boost up the meat bag count. They don’t just want half the population pie they want the whole thing :s

      13. Shoot that is how Russia got rid of some of these undesirables.

      14. I guarantee that in the future they will offer US entry / citizenship for immigrants who join the military to serve in combat arms. There are quite a few that think this is a good idea, that they should serve to obtain citizenship. One question. If the day ever comes when US military personnel are ordered to shoot American citizens are you more comfortable with Billy Bob from Kentucky or Eqawalkai Babazqr from some shithole you can’t find on a map with that M4 in hand? Second question; Who would TPTB desire behind that trigger?

      15. When will they be allowing 90 year olds, or for that matter, my CAT, to join?

        • They would even let several my alcoholic neighbors to join ages 60’s thru 91 total losers. They better not touch my cat tho’.

      16. A couple of ways to look at this…. These are cannon fodder for WWIII. A way of ridding the country of dirtbags. Nothing worse than give some shit’um military training- this can’t end well for the average US citizen…. I agree with some of the posts above regarding their use in Martial Law and gun confiscation raids…

      17. Kevin2, I can guarantee that ANY foreigner in a US military uniform would be only too happy to pull that trigger on Americans even if he or she doesn’t advertise it. The trick is to pull YOUR trigger on THEM before they can do ANYTHING.

      18. This is for the USA, not overseas.

      19. When I served in the 80s pretty well everybody I was with was either university educated or was on a scholarship to go to university. There were a few who were brain dead and violent but most were very smart and decent people. Also amazingly beautiful women with great, optimistic personalities. No tattoes and weird ‘daddy’ stories of sex abuse etc.

But look at what we have today: a youth population that is so screwed up, so ‘diverse’, so infested with crazy religious faiths (Islam), and so damaged in a hundred different ways (drugs, sex abuse, single mommies and welfare, obese, lazy, no ability to focus, etc.).

I think the military is the last option for these people and it is better to get them in uniform than just leave them on the streets. There is going to be a lot of dirty fighting to be done in North Korea and Iran (both mountain countries) and so we will need the bodies to get it done. Casualty rates are going to be way high and like nothing that has been experienced in our life times. Think along WWII and Vietnam levels. This screwed up generation can at least do a good thing for humanity and lay down their worthless, opioid-addicted, tattoed lives for something good: bringing freedom and liberty to Iran and North Korea.

      20. The “Event Horizon” approaches.
