Mass Shooting Myth — U.S. Homicide Rate Hits 51-year Low as Gun Ownership Increased 141%
In the wake of the Orlando nightclub massacre, politicians have attempted to use the tragedy as means of garnering public support for increased gun control measures. Four pieces of knee-jerk gun control legislation were defeated in Congress yesterday, but the debate surrounding gun rights continues unabated.
The new narrative is that “mass shootings,” defined by the FBI as 3 or more people killed in one incident, are at epidemic levels and thus require society to increase restrictions on gun ownership as a means of saving lives and lowering the U.S. homicide rate.
However, this narrative flies in the face of reality as the homicide rate in the U.S. is actually at a 51-year low, according to FBI data. The homicide rate in the U.S. for 2014, the most recent year available, was 4.5 per 100,000. The 2014 total is part of a long downward trend and is the lowest homicide rate recorded since 1963 when the rate was 4.6 per 100,000. The last time the homicide rate in the U.S. was lower than it is now was in 1957 when the total homicide rate was 4.0 per 100,000.
Surprisingly, most Americans are completely unaware of this information, as the media and politicians in the U.S. consistently work to create a circus-like atmosphere surrounding firearms as a means of controlling the fear-based narrative of a public need for additional gun restrictions.
Contrary to what the public has been led to believe, as the homicide rate in the U.S. has fallen to a 51-year low, gun ownership has increased drastically.
According to a report by the Mises Institute:
Over a recent 20 year period, the number of new guns in the US that were either manufactured in the US or imported into the US increased 141 percent from 6.6 million new guns in 1994 to 16 million in 2013. That means a gross total of 132 million new guns were added into the US population over that time period.
However one wants to rationalize this information there is one overarching theme – increased access to firearms has not led to a more violent society in the U.S. – and according to the FBI’s data, has actually correlated with a markedly less violent society as indicated by the lowest homicide rate in the past 50 years.
Since the data is so convincingly clear, gun control advocates have now resorted to defining “mass shootings” as a special type of murder, and using the emotion of tragedies like Orlando, as an excuse for further regulate firearms in hopes that people’s knee-jerk reactions will overcome data and logic.
“Yes, homicide rates have been going down,” they admit, “but mass shootings are now an epidemic!”
This argument fails to acknowledge how absurd it is to attempt to imply that homicides are going up because of mass shootings when there are 49 percent fewer homicides compared to twenty years ago.
This leads us to an interesting question: If the actual goal is to decrease homicides in the U.S., then why would we attempt to abolish the conditions that have strongly correlated with decreasing homicide rates (increased gun ownership) in an attempt to rid a specific variety of homicide that accounts for a very small percentage of the overall homicides in the U.S.?
Regardless of Obama’s claims that “no one wants to take your guns,” there is most certainly an elite-driven agenda that is attempting to slowly regulate guns out of American public society. The push to further regulate guns isn’t simply about decreasing homicides, as the data clearly reveals an ongoing trend of decreasing homicide rates – which begs the question: If the motive isn’t to decrease homicides, then what is the actual intent of pushing for increased gun control measures?

IN Florida, the only info given to the FBI on NICS, is that it is either a “Long Gun” or a “Hand Gun,” NO serial numbers are given to the FBI, or info on which model number, or brand name or anything etc. So a long gun could be a 12g Shotgun or a .50 Cal Barrett.
They can estimate in gun sales and taxes collected as to how many and what kind of guns are sold per dealer. Or with a Court signed warrant to the Gun Dealer for additional info about a sale purchase.
This Liberal Hillary BS about any body can go into a gun shop and walk out with an assault type rife is BS. In FL only Concealed carry permit holder can walk out the same day with a gun, but still they have to have a NICS Backgroud check and the carry permit speeds up the 3 Business day waiting period.
I bought a long gun before I had a permit and had to wait 5 days, due to one day of the 3 business days was Thanksgiving Holiday, and 2 weekend days created a 5 day wait. Frustrating, waiting for a gun I already paid for, and just BS delays. Now being a Carry permit holder, its cash and carry the same day, but still a FBI NICS check is still required.

Here in crazy fascist CA a Dealer Record Of Sale and a 4473 gun form both require the information: Long Gun or handgun,type of long gun, fingerprint, signatures, serial numbers, a 10 day wait before pickup, 30 day wait between handgun purchases, along with ammo licensing pending, re-registration of anything considered an “assault weapon”, restrictions on magazine capacity of 10 rounds, a possible ban on anything centerfire with a detachable magazine, and a ban on pre-ban 30 round magazines. They also want to know if the buyer is Hispanic or Latino or not, and what brand of Hispanic or Latino (white or otherwise), mandatory CA approved lock required…………the list goes on and on.
All the LEO’s that I talk to all say the same thing, “we will not enforce anything that goes contrary against the constitutional right to keep and bear arms, even if it means handing in our badges”.

Back in the 1950’s there were no EMT’s or paramedics. Most ambulances were just pretty station wagons. You were likely to be transported to the hospital in a squad car or paddy wagon or a friends car. The hospitals probably didn’t have trauma units back then. Medical techniques have improved a lot over the years. Most of what I’ve listed here was true until about 1975. As I remember. The demographics today are consistent with more violence. The shooting victims just have a better chance of survival today. But you still ain’t getting my guns.

The homicide rate is down for many reasons. Gun ownership is a deterrent. A black man in office gives hope to young people of color. Three strikes law keeps dangerous repeat offenders behind bars. Softened maryjuana laws provide a calming tranquility for hot heads. Flouride in drinking water makes everyone more docile and less likely to engage in any activity. The gyms and yoga enthusiasm is a sure way to reduce domestic violence as endorphins from physical activity are natural and leave one feeling good.
If I were to purchase a gun, why would I register it. If someone showed up on my doorstep unannounced and my life was endangered, if I was forced to kill, do you think I would call the cops and go through the bullshit system? Probably not. My garden is doing quite well?.

Observer…good point about the improved medical care. It has improved drastically since ’50. Counterpoint…back in ’50s the state of the art weapon was a six shooter, a bolt action deer rifle and maybe a pump shotgun. Yes…DO NOT COMPLY. I lost my second amendment right when my ex-wife filed a restraining order on me. Of course I am not violent, nor did I assault her, and nor was there an arrest for domestic violence; because it never happened. But in the State of Arizona, like many other states, you are NOT allowed to be in possession of a firearm while under a restraining order, which she obtained easily by going to court and just filing some paperwork. So I was denied self defense and the 2nd amendment. This is how the bastards will take your guns. Not by confiscation, but by basically making it illegal to possess a firearm thru countless mandates, regulations, and laws. In other words, we’re not going to come and take your guns, BUT…don’t you dare use a firearm under any circumstances, or you’ll go to prison. This bill to use the no fly list as a criteria for NIC will be disasterous for gun owners.
The moment you are ever denied a NIC clearance to purchase you are required by law to give up all firearms. It’s a felony the keep them. Different states have different regulations on how you can dispose of them.
In some states if you don’t get a lawyer and get off the no fly list and reverse the NIC check failure you will find you become banned for life. It’s not going to be cheap.
I’m thinking the government could be watching you research firearms on line and slip you onto the list in time to block your purchase and require disposal of all your existing firearms. This kind of arbitrary justice is going to haunt us. If we get another psycho president like Obama, you know this is going to be abused.

With the increase of weapons possession among citizens and the decrease in crime I feel compelled to head for the gun store and do my duty to further decrease crime. Another rifle? Interesting how those who constantly call for gun control live in a deluded bubble of gross stupidity. At times over my 30 years dealing with the criminal element I witnessed so many incidences of people that carried or had weapons at home living for another day after being subjected to the actions of a scumbag. These people were able to protect themselves as their God given rights allowed them to do. I also remember some of the most gutless cowards who of course were demonrats pissing on themselves as they were scared when their group was confronted with a scumbag pointing a weapon at them and relieving them of all of their valuables. But like true brain dead shit for brains even after having to lay on the ground and not knowing if they would be heading to slab city, they still refused to acknowledge that they had right to defend themselves. Talk about useless sheep, they were definite bottom feeders. A weapon is a tool, it does not have legs, a brain nor the ability to up and determine when and where it will be used. Since Cain killed Abel violent crime has been in this world. The only way to respond is to be fully armed at all times whether the so called powers to be allow it or not. Just an example of when it may be needed, after retiring I happened to be in a well known convenience store one evening when I noticed a car full of pavement apes enter the driveway, cut off the lights and drive to the end of the parking lot. One individual entered wearing a heavy trench coat, now it was about 85 degrees outside (yes in the southwest in summer) so kinda suspicious. All he did at first was note where everyone in the store was at. Me being the vicious SOB that I am just smiled when he looked my way, he did see something that caused him to turn around and run out of the store. Point of the little story is that you never know where and when something will happen that can change you life forever if you are not prepared. Funny thing. I come from a non-gun owning family. Yet, all my siblings, as well as myself, are now gun owners, and strong 2nd Amendment supporters.
Apparently the fascist left seems to be losing its war on reality and truth (cf. the faux global warming scam).
Speaking of our government and specifically the BS happening in the House today; Obi Wan Kenobi said it best:

There are several other factors, such as improved medical care and – most important of all, the phasing out of leaded gasoline which began in 1973 (see “America’s Criminal Element: Lead” for more details).
Still, the increase in the number of guns has NOT lead to greater violence, which should cause the helplessness caucus to question what they are doing – but of course it hasn’t.
Meanwhile, I expect traditional firearms to be obsolete within a decade or two – but current trends by which ordinary citizens are learning how to make their own firearms at home could kickstart a new on-demand manufacturing industry that would be very useful to have.
All this being said, non-violence is the way forward

What is most dangerous in our country is not found in weapons, floods, hurricanes, tornados, earthquakes, volcanoes, gangs or guns, wildfires, accidents, or terrorists.
Taking the leftist stance, they should be banning doctors!
