Just a few weeks ago the honorable Congresswoman from San Francisco, Nancy Pelosi, made the stunning claim that health insurance in America would be cheaper than ever before. “Many of the initiatives that he passed are what are coming to bear now, including the Affordable Care Act,” she said at a recent press conference about legislation championed by the President. “The Affordable Care Act is bringing the cost of health care in our country down in both the public and private sector.”
Of course, days later we found out what the future of “affordable” health care and lower costs actually meant, when the IRS admitted that prices would top $20,000 per year for the average American family.
It seems that these are the ramifications for passing a sweeping overhaul of the U.S. health care industry without having first read the bill to find out what was in it.
Now that we know government mandated ObamaCare will actually cost Americans at all income levels significantly more than was promised by the President and Congressional democrats, Nancy Pelosi is back peddling on her statements, claiming that she and the bill’s supporters never said there’d be lower premiums.
Well, some people don’t have health insurance and they’ll certainly have their health insurance premiums go up [laughs] because they don’t have any health insurance now, so they don’t have any premiums now.
But for anyone that that is a challenge, there are subsidies in the exchanges.
And, it’s also about what you get for your money. In other words, people will be getting no lifetime or annual limits on their coverage, no discrimination because of pre-existing medical conditions… it has a whole array of quality that is in the legislation.
But if you don’t have health insurance and you don’t qualify for a subsidy… and you’re mandated to have health insurance, you won’t have an increase.
We’re very sensitive to what it means to young people, especially to young singles. And, umm, there are policies that people can get.
I don’t remember saying that everybody in the country will have a lower premium, because everybody in the country doesn’t have health insurance so how could it be lower.
But the fact is, the value of what you get for the cost that you pay, is a reduction in cost to you.
…for everybody it is going to be a liberation, a freedom.
…and if you’re a small business. What this means for small business. It is… it is…umm… it’s uh… it’s a solution for the American people. It lowers cost.
Nancy Pelosi is absolutely right.
Obamacare, which will be enforced at the barrel of a gun, is freedom!
It’s a liberation… of your money from your wallet, to be spent on Nancy’s mile high booze-it-up plane junkets and subsidies for her district that will enrich her colleague Diane Feinstein’s personal net worth.

I’ve read and heard especially on talk radio that the fine is really non enforceable, i.e. that can’t lock you up or garnish your wages. My landlord just so happens to be an IRS agent and a really nice person on top of that so I can ask her when the time comes.
I did ask her about the penalty for non compliance and she said the agents were not aware of how much it would cost the person who disobeyed Obamacare and wanted to pay the tax for not purchasing healthcare.

A heads up was given to all providers to have atleast a years operating cash on hand because most claims are expected to be coded wrong because this system is more advanced. E…Actually, there are no criminal penalties for nonpayment of the ACA penalty. There are also no property liens applied for nonpayment. However, the IRS can keep any refunds of tax you are due to satisfy nonpayment. If you plan on non compliance, you should change your W-4 so you have no refund.
The $20,000 example given is for a family that has an income of $120,000. Their penalty for not participating would be $200 a month. In my view, this example is not typical of most of the posters here and is meant to get a hysterical reaction. I don’t support the ACA or the criminal corrupt government…but then again, I already have an insurance plan that sucks.
I think you are on to something here. However, when I think long term I am wondering if the IRS can “get you” when you die by hitting your estate with the accumulated non payments of penalties, interest, and assorted other charges? If so, might the answer be a revocable trust?

I followed Mac’s link back through several blogs to get to the original IRS doc and it said no liens would be attached for penalties. So, I guess you can take their word for it… or not. My grandfather didn’t leave an “estate.” He told me he didn’t want anyone fighting over what he left, so he spent hell out of it. I helped him by taking him on a long trip when he was 89, and he paid all the expenses. When it was all over, most of his children were in the hole a little bit from paying the funeral expense.
So the answer might be that you don’t leave an estate for the IRS to charge.

Howdy, Central TX Mom, and I totally agree. On June 1, my company changed our coverage from Humana to Blue Cross/Blue Shield; just waiting to see how that turns out. Obamacare becomes effective January 1, 2014. If your company was able to afford this renewal good for you. When your group plan comes up for renewal next year expect your rates to go through the roof and the company plan to terminate.

She is such a lier, health care is so expensive, I have a freaking policy which is the only kind my company offers and I pay and pay and pay hundreds and hundreds of dollars to be covered, but when I need insurance, they pay nothing because I have such a freakin huge deductable, I can not afford to see my doc ever, it cost me 150 bucks for 5 minutes of her time. A family member had to go the hospital for chest pains, and I had to pay about over 5,000 bucks out of my pocket which I did not have, insurance did not cover. This nut job and obama are clueless, they are robbers of the american middle class.

Such attacks have become commonplace in Israel, but it isn’t Jewish soldiers beating Palestinian civilians in the West Bank. The attacks have nothing to do with militant settlers or an autonomous Palestine, although these conflicts are always at the back of people’s minds.
For decades, Jews and Palestinians have been fighting over the same piece of land. Some of them even share the same citizenship. Three quarters of Israel’s 8 million people are Jews, and 1.8 million are Israeli Arabs. However, their paths rarely cross in everyday life. Israel’s Arabs are not required to serve in the military, and many of them live in primarily Arab towns and neighborhoods, with their children attending Arab schools. They earn less on average and are not as well educated as Israeli Jews. Officially, they have the same rights as Jewish citizens, but in reality they are often the targets of discrimination.
