The Gun Bill That Is Going Through Congress Could Significantly Increase The Number Of Americans Banned From Buying Guns

    By Michael Snyder

When news that a “concealed-carry reciprocity law” had been passed by the U.S. House of Representatives, gun owners all over the nation rejoiced. But what most people didn’t realize is that there had been a last minute change to the bill that could substantially increase the number of Americans that are banned from buying guns. This poison pill completely ruins the bill, and it must be voted down. What we need is a clean “concealed-carry reciprocity bill” that does not include “Fix-NICS” in it.

Let’s start at the beginning. Last week, gun owners were elated when the House passed a bill that would enable them “to legally carry concealed weapons across state lines”

Republicans rammed a bill through the House on Wednesday that would make it easier for gun owners to legally carry concealed weapons across state lines, the first significant action on guns in Congress since mass shootings in Nevada and Texas killed more than 80 people.

The House approved the bill, 231-198, largely along party lines. Six Democrats voted yes, while 14 Republicans voted no.

The measure would allow gun owners with a state-issued concealed-carry permit to carry a handgun in any state that allows concealed weapons. It now goes to the Senate.

It would be easy to assume that since virtually every single Republican voted for this bill that it must be a good thing.

But it turns out that a change was inserted into the bill at the last moment that many lawmakers never read. According to Fox News, the bill “contained an 11th-hour change to help states and agencies enter such data as criminal and domestic-violence convictions into the National Instant Criminal Background Check System for gun purchases”.

A few member of the House immediately figured out what was going on and decided to vote against the bill.  One of them was U.S. Rep. Louie Gohmert

Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) explained on Wednesday that he could not support national reciprocity because House Leadership added the gun control expansions of “Fix-NICS” to it.

“Fix-NICS” is a measure Sens. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), Chris Murphy (D-CT), Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), and John Cornyn (R-TX) support. It responds to the Air Force’s failure to report Devin Kelley’s criminal history by expanding the number of people who will be barred from gun possession going forward.

So exactly how many people could be “barred from gun possession going forward”?

Well, according to Gun Owners Of America, even people with “unpaid traffic tickets” could be banned from owning guns under this bill…

The goal of the Cornyn-Feinstein-Murphy-Schumer bill is to force every single potential NICS name to be sent to the FBI’s NICS system.

It was prompted by reports that the Air Force did not send the name of the Sutherland Springs shooter to NICS — even though he certainly could have gotten a firearm in a wide variety of ways, even if he had been in NICS, and even though his carnage was stopped by the real solution to violence … a good guy with a gun.

The problem is that, because of this isolated horror story, the Cornyn bill could add the names of millions of additional law-abiding Americans to NICS.

You already know of the 257,000 veterans who have lost their rights because of a bad experience in Iraq.

You already know that 95% of NICS denials are “false positives.”

And you probably also know that “Fix NICS” would require that the rolls of Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, CHIP, and ObamaCare be trolled for recipients with PTSD, ADHD, or Alzheimer’s — that is, people who have had guardians appointed.

What you may not know is that the SECOND LARGEST CATEGORY of prohibited persons is “fugitives from justice” — and that a good portion of these are Americans who have UNPAID TRAFFIC TICKETS.

Needless to say, I would have voted against this bill, and as a member of Congress I will never compromise on the 2nd Amendment even a single inch. If you believe in what we are trying to do, I hope that you will help us to win next May.

Even though Donald Trump is in the White House, the enemies of the 2nd Amendment are still trying to sneak gun control measures through Congress, and we need leaders in Washington that will tirelessly defend our rights.

      1. Never trust a gun bill supported by a democrat and especially not that list of democrats.

        • The second amendment is the only law we need – all other laws dealing with guns are unconstitutional and therefore illegal! These good-intentioned gun laws are nothing but eyewash and a distraction from what really needs to be done!

      2. MOLON LABE
        III%

        • The NRA would love this legislation for two reasons. it takes rights and makes them into privileges and they could pretend to fight it and ask for more money

          • Actually there are several states right now that are woefully denied 2nd Amendment rights.I’m a former subject of The Peoples Republic Of NJ. I’ll take off not paying a ticket for carry in all 50 states. Personally I pay my bills.

            • i bet you would, NRA lover

              • You must be on the wrong page, IDIOT commenters like you need to go spew your CRAP elsewhere, you won’t be changing anyones mind here! The NRA stands between YOU and the END of America, get a life!

                • FWB, good points. After all, uses the name of a diaper-wearing cow worshiper as his moniker.

            • I just dont get tickets!

              • Me either

                • I can carry in 37 states thanks to the NRA. Yes I adore the organization. Seen them in action behind the scenes.

              • It doesn’t matter that you don’t get tickets. It starts slowly. First the ticket people, then later on maybe, hey, you earn less than $30,000 a year….too poor to own a gun. Or You have children in the house, so you can’t own a gun. Or you are too OLD to have a gun. Or…you’re not a hunter, so you don’t NEED a gun. It starts small. Oh, poor people who get food stamps are too poor to own a gun….and on and on.

          • STILL spewing CRAP? What a tool!

        • That’s right. Come and take the damn things and see what happens.

          • Menzo, Braveheart says the same thing. I say it’s better to scrap that bill and start over then to have that ‘Fix NICS’ BS in it. As far as traffic tickets go, anytime I get one I pay it ASAP and get it done and over with. My bills get paid regardless.

        • Nail
          AMEN!!!!
          Sgt.

        • Nail,
          Hawaii passed this recently.
          All gun purchasers have to
          enroll in the FBI RAPBACK.
          system.
          ht tps://www.americas1stfreedom.org/articles/2016/6/14/hiding-in-hawaii-rap-back-program-revealed-to-be-gun-registration-scheme/

I will probably be moving my legal state of residence back to WA state. I’ll continue to “visit” my wife year round at our home in Hawaii, she will stay a Hawaii resident. At least my vote will finally count for something, I’ll have a CCW license, and the hunting is better, and they have no state income tax. If the Hudson bill passes I’ll be able to legally conceal carry in Hawaii, despite what what my county police chief wants.
I have deep ties to WA state(A physical address, business license, credit union accounts, et al) so it is easy for me to legally pull this off.
As everyone knows I never violate any Constitutional Federal, state, or local laws.

          • Ill deal for now, but realisticly at some point will make better sense to leave, maybe, who knows, one thing i have learned in my life, is that there is a power greater than myself that has my plan all worked out, when i let go things just work out.

      3. No one convicted (or defaulted into conviction – unpaid Traffic Tickets)of a misdemeanor should ever lose any of their Constitutional Rights except temporarily.

You can be incarcerated for up to 1 year for certain misdemeanors. Obviously you lose most of your Constitutional Rights during that period.

However, unpaid Traffic tickets fall into a questionable area of not even being a conviction.

Some jurisdictions have laws that call for PERMANENT loss of 2A Rights upon conviction of Misdemeanor Domestic Violence.

Un-Constitutional on the face of it. I wish someone would challenge this and get some $ backing to do it.

If the challenger were self-funded (Go Fund Me etc.) I certainly would help out.

NO FELONY – NO RIGHTS LOSS!

Even felons can get a lot of their Rights restored in several States.

        <bb

        • what do you mean temporarily, are you an NRA member?. they are know to be fools.

          • The NRA is the difference between Canada, Australia and the USA for guns.

          • Mr Ghandi:

You apparently missed that second and third sentence.

I am sorry to have to break this down for you, but when you are incarcerated for a misdemeanor conviction they put you behind bars and you can’t actually exercise all of your Constitutional Rights during your time there, now can you ?

            <bb

            • Oh I forgot to completely connect all the dots.

The time you spend incarcerated is less than 1 year. That one year (max) period is called ‘temporary’ compared to what we hope is a long ‘rest of your life.’

              <bb

          • The ONLY fool here is called gandhi and he is a PIECE of SH*T, GO AWAY ASSW*PE!

      4. Oh, we cannot let dangerous terrorist types with unpaid parking tickets have firearms. What next? Are we going to allow people who have been ticketed with growing dangerous food in their front yard access to firearms? Sigh…..

      5. Great argument ” bb in GA “. The leftists actually want to disarm everyone and this underhanded stealth method of incrementally eroding our God-given rights is the path they have chosen.

      6. Any move they make now is to screw us…

Neither party is there to support me…

        • Spot on Vet, they are straining to hold power, most people are questioning DC and their legitimacy

        • the NRA wants you to believe thatif you have unpaid subscriptions to the American Hunter you will lose your gun rights. hahaha second ammendment does not mention guns, sons.

          • You are correct it states “Arms” which guns (And muskets)are considered in that category. You can’t possibly be that moronic.

          • Get a grip gandhi.

          • Gandhi, what are you smoking? I might want to try some. [SARCASM]

      7. Cornyn is one of my Senators. He is only conservative at election time. He is another like McCain. Conservative during election year, RINO the other 5 years. I’ve voted against him in the last 2 primaries, but it does no good. He is too ingrained and has too much money.

        • Old Salt ain’t it funny how all these people will holler for term limits and then come Primary Time they will run down and vote for the same incumbent! Trekker Out

        • Agreed!! Cornyn is one of my senators also. At election time he does try to come off as conservative but his true colord come out the day after the election. As Texans, we must unite to get rid of him in the next election. Just hope our other senator doesn’t sell us out like Cornyn has, but I’m beginning to think he will.

      8. Clowns belong in a circus. Instead of making stupid rules for everybody else.

      9. Too many clowns at all levels allowed to make too many rules. I refuse to have clowns rule over me.

        • Anonymous, good points. Clowns also make good targets with those crazy costumes they wear, LOL.

        • You hit that one square, DC seems to be a 3.5 ring circuis these days, im freakin over it, not going to work to support this crap any more, stopped 3 years ago and its been fine so screw em.Cant get blood out o a turnip

      10. We cannot trust ANY of them!

      11. If you renounce U.S. Citizen status and declare your true political status none of these so called laws have any affect on you. All men and women born on the land of any of the sovereign states are not U.S. Citizens unless they chose to be. If you do not work for the federal government in D.C. or you are on active duty in the military or you were born in one of the territories such as Guam, Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, or in the District of Columbia itself then you are an American state national. The so called laws of this incorporated government in D.C. have no jurisdiction over you.

        • Step back from the crack pipe. Renounce your citizen ship quickly. Get a free plane ticket to hell hole country of your choice. America does not need spineless cowards. We need MEN and WOMEN that will stand up to evil corruption. Give me liberty or give me death is not a cliche it is a way of life. Cowards die a thousands deaths. I regret i have but one life to give to my creator and country. I regret your life is such a pathetic example of cowardice.

          • You have almost right. ” Give liberty or I will give you death” I intend to live until it is just muscle spasms pressing the firing device. just saynnn

        • Thats all well and good but it didnt stop the feds from killing my friends at Ruby Ridge did it?

          • I was working up there when the feds were trying to trap the Weavers. We stayed at the deep creek inn just a few miles from the road to Ruby Ridge. The “Feds” grounded our Helicopter from flying anywhere near Ruby Ridge under threat of jail or worse. They were real pricks. If we would have known how it turned out, we would have helped them. The sniper that shot “Vicki Weaver” should have been put in prison. That was murder, plain and simple no matter how the Fed’s spin the story. When I was a sniper in the Marines, you identified your target 100% before firing, and she was even holding the baby!! Our Gov. is asking for it. We have awakened to all their lies, graft, corruption, insider trading, and just totally screwing the USA over for their own personal gain and we are sick of it.

      12. A gun grab by any other name… IS STILL A GUN GRAB!

I wonder how many more amendments are snuck into law, before the libtard Demon-crates feel they have enough legal grounds for a gun grab proper, sparking the next civil war?

      13. This Gov’t is comprised of nothing but deviants, liars and clowns! WE ALL have a God given right to defend ourselves and our loved ones. Piss on the red-tape garbage.

      14. If you get a ticket….just pay it and you won’t be black listed or better yet just don’t speed. Problem solved! Just sayin’.

      15. The “Fix-NICS” does not add any new categories of crimes for which someone may be banned from owning a firearm. What it does is compel reporting of already existing crime categories so people like the church shooter will be flagged in the future.

      16. Let’s talk, sit around a drum circle, these are bought
and paid for anti American scum take your bill and
        Shove it up your ass.
There’s only one law constitutional law that’s it
period! study history everyone that gave up arms
        we’re slaughted.
Let’s turn them in three million armed men and women
go to Washington show up and turn them in better
make a bill banning hemp rope real soon scum.
        X

      17. Any regulation of arms ownership should have started a second revolution. You missed your chance.

      18. DRW, the AF was compelled to enter that a–holes name, but as long as there are humans doing it,there will be human error.I just dont like the bill, period. Who conceals and who does not is up to the states to decide.

      19. I just hate when some “last minute” change is added to a bill. It’s never good, generally overlooked, and then your local Congress Critter claims they didn’t know/vote for it.

Shouldn’t there be a rule saying that any change made beyond a period of time for reading should be made known in some manner? There really shouldn’t be any last minute changes but that’s not too likely.

Seems like most last minute changes criminalize most the population in some way and always chip away at our Constitutional rights.

      20. According to a gun rights group, the Calif Rifle and Pistol Association, email, it’s a MYTH about the parking ticket threat.

TRUTH: Some have expressed concern that parking tickets, domestic violence records and pre-validation of records would expand current federal law. In order to be included in NICS for a traffic violation, it would have to rise to the level of a bench warrant being issued and the person fleeing the state to avoid such a warrant—not a simple parking violation.

The domestic violence records are only for those that are determined as felonies, misdemeanor crimes of domestic violence, and domestic violence protective orders that meet the procedural requirements of federal law (found in the NICS Improvement Amendment Act of 2007, section 102 (b)(1)(C)).

Pre-validation is a means for agencies to verify the information being sent to NICS. The pre-validation is a codification of the current FBI regulations that validating the accuracy of the records provided, therefore there is no expansion of federal law as all of these concerns are already covered under current law.

        • The Progressives agenda is to disarm American’s who disagree with their way of thinking.
We have enough Gun Control laws on the books already.
If they were enforced there would be no call for more, however they are selectively enforced.
The Progressives want to have an Australian type of gun control in America. How many of you want that ??
If any of the Progressives really believe that disarming America will make her safer than in a showing of good faith they can give up their ARMED body guards,
I doubt if any will be willing to go without armed bodyguards. If not that their real agenda is to disarm us the common Americans who they are afraid of.
I just wonder why they are afraid of us ??

          • The proper word is COMMUNIST. They are Communist Progressives, and there’s nothing progressive about them. Unless we are progressing towards slavery. It is the Communist Agenda to take all the guns away. We are screwed if that happens. Oh, and i heard on the radio today that the Left now wants all stores to take off their bullet proof windows cuz it’s discrimination! And then i heard they want to ban the song Jingle Bells cuz it’s racist!! OMG , how i H*TE these people!!!!

      21. The other change added to the bill at the last second was a 5% congressional pay raise. He, he, he!

      22. I think the gubment should ban guns, gun ownership, manufacture, all of it. Gather them up, starting with the federal, state, county, and local police. Pass laws that give free education, birth control, hell… Free everything. Then we can kick back and watch all the liberal dommie freaks who’ve been yammering around about wanting this shit their pants when tye monster they created starts devouring them. Then laugh in their face when they run to us to fight to get it all back.

        • Is it true that in Britain the cops are not allowed to carry guns? Dumb fks.

      23. Along with your permit to carry be sure your “regulated Militia” identification can be provided as well.
