Editor’s Note: It has been reported that of the 50 people who died in the Orlando massacre, about half of them were killed by their attacker inside of a bathroom. The problem is that most people never consider the possibility that they’ll ever be faced with a deadly threat. To their detriment, they never personally war game such a scenario. While running is an option, it may not be possible when all hell breaks loose. In the following article from The Market Ticker, author Karl Denninger outlines the threat, your options, and what you absolutely must do if you want to survive.
You MUST Change Your Attitude

This is not going to be easy for you to read folks.
But if you do read it all the way through, and then act on it, it may save your life.
The events in Orlando make clear a few points. Let me quickly review, although my other articles on this topic have laid out the case in far more detail, and they speak to the political acts you must demand right damned now and follow through on.
I know you won’t, because at the core we no longer have the “right stuff” as Americans. We won’t call a general strike and mean it until the Second Amendment’s 4 little words are restored to their clear, English meaning. As a result you’re going to remain severely disadvantaged to a degree you don’t have to be but until and unless your, and a lot of other people’s, attitudes change in this regard that’s the world you live in so suck it up bucko.
No, I’m speaking of your personal view and what you internalize. You see, when something really awful happens you don’t generally get to think. Your “reptile brain” takes over and it is what you internalize that comes out.
Here it is, in short: If confronted with overwhelming and superior force by an assailant who appears to be intent on killing you the only logical position you can adopt and the view you must adopt is that you are dead right there, right now.
Is attempting to flee in such a situation practical? Maybe, if you can actually flee. But “to flee” means getting well clear (beyond quick-action firearm range) and do so using cover and/or concealment so you cannot be assaulted during the process. Note that for a pistol this is probably 25 or so yards and for a rifle more like 100. That’s 300 feet of distance you must be able to open between you and the gunman without being shot and you must have cover, concealment or both because you will have to turn your back on him to flee at an effective speed. Further, you must know that there are no barriers (like a bolted or blocked door!) that will not only stop your progress but advertise yourself to the gunman. Running to a bathroom, which is a one-exit roach motel and what a huge number of people actually did, will almost-certainly simply set you up to be murdered like chickens in a coop with a hole big enough for the fox to get in!
Second, the radio call to the cops from dispatch has been published. The cops were told to take cover and not storm the building immediately despite knowing there was a man with a gun inside the building actively shooting people — and they did exactly that, waiting three hours while people who had been shot were bleeding out on the floor.
READ THIS CAREFULLY FOLKS AND DO SO REPEATEDLY UNTIL IT SINKS IN: The cops, with overwhelming force that they demand the right to possess and use at their whim while at the same time they refuse to allow you to have and possess defensive firepower on your person in the very same situation and place, cowered outside in fear and let the patrons who had been shot and were being shot die.
Again: You must internalize the view that if confronted with such a situation you are already dead and you, and only you, have any possibility of changing that outcome.
The reason for this is simple: If you are already dead then any act you undertake can only improve the outcome. It cannot make it worse, because the worst possible outcome has already happened.
You must accept and internalize the fact that the cops will not save you; they will, however, dutifully inventory your dead body 12 hours later. Their first and foremost concern is going home safe at the end of their shift, to “protect and serve” is just a slogan on the side of their car like the slogans on a politician’s campaign sign.
Folks, given the number of people shot this man reloaded at least twice. This means there were at least two opportunities for the people present to attack him in some fashion; bum rush the guy, throw a glass or bottle at him, throw a bar stool, chair or table, anything.
There were at least two short periods of time when he ran out of ammunition and had to swap magazines during which he had at best a club but no bullets!
I am not blaming the victims here. Unless you’ve faced what you had reason to believe was your imminent demise you simply do not know how you will react. Unfortunately most people haven’t put any thought into this situation at all, which means they haven’t even planted the seed in their head that must be nurtured and grown so that if this situation arises they have at least some rational shot at turning the tide.
We used to, as Americans, face this reality on a regular basis. We had a large percentage of our population that were drafted and sent to war from time to time and faced bullets whizzing by their heads for months or years, with many of their friends falling to the ones that found their mark. We had a frontier where you faced snakes, Indians (interested in your scalp as you were, from their point of view, invading their land!) and simple starvation or running out of water, and more than a few succumbed to one of the above. Disease felled even more, regularly. There was no such thing as a “safe space” nor the idiot “progressives” demanding and putting forward same as “rights”; that is utter crap yet it has massively contributed to the “oh my God hide in the bathroom!” mentality.
Simply put you must individually perform this exercise, starting right now and repeating it as often as necessary until it becomes a core part of who you are. You must be prepared on a mental basis to adopt the “I’m dead” belief and position in mind, body and soul if confronted with such a situation. Until and unless we, the people on a mass basis demand that everyone have their right to keep and bear defensive arms be respected everywhere, with the possible exception where active, armed government guards are present to temporarily take the duty (e.g. a courthouse), you must understand that nobody else — not the cops, not the government, not the FBI, nobody — is going to be able to help. Further, unless you’re willing to break the law and risk going to prison you will be unarmed in any place such as a nightclub because your right to self-defense has been disrespected and you have refused to insist that this state of affairs be changed.
Nonetheless whether you’re armed or not your posture must be, if such a situation arises, I am dead.
Simply put, this must be the position you adopt.
Because if it is, when that jackass shows up if he doesn’t spend one of his first magazine’s rounds on you there will be a short period of time, just a few seconds, where you have the ability to disrupt his attack and you must seize that moment and attempt to do exactly that.
It is the only act that will meaningfully improve your odds of survival and if you have adopted this position it will be what your reptilian mind autonomously responds with because you can only make the situation better since the worst possible outcome has already happened.

Hello to you and all. Many places have given classes on active shooter drills.
Remember ” Get out, Hide out, or Take out ”
In my case I only have the last choice if my family is with me. Since I have a son in a wheel chair I thought about that fact long ago.
You have to think about anything around you that can be used as a weapon, a barricade, or a place to hide. How about busting out windows. How about breaking the wall and making an exit. When in a restaurant sit with your back to the wall and your face towards the door.
Be observant at all times. Don’t be texting or playing with cell phones. So many today make that mistake. If you must take out my suggestion is go for the throat. Push the attackers gun to the side away from you at all times. Become the meanest person on the planet. Anything goes.
For most on here we are generally armed at all times. There are exceptions for me. Work does not allow fire arms in the building. I do have a permit to keep them in my vehicle. All other times I am armed except for church and I have a fire arm in the vehicle there. I believe we are about to see a time where you will arm yourself at church too.
Things have gotten serious the past two days. Stay alert and think about anything that you may need.
Put up speakers concealed in the attic or something or up near the ceiling and small.
Connect to a microphone and a switchboard in whatever your safe room is.
Instant distraction. Make them face the wrong way. Make them look in the wrong place, run from the wrong thing, maybe run in general if you’re lucky.
Also do a full cam set up in your house, on the inside. I did that (for other reasons than self defense… it was needed as a caregiver) but my god it would work wonders for self defense. Holy crap I can see. In pitch blackness.

I am replying to the subject in general. You have only one option if you and those around you are to survive: Running and hiding, praying are not viable choices. Prayer, if you have been answered in similar situations in the past- Good!- then pray. Otherwise, do not waste your time. If 50 were killed, 50 wounded, then we might assume that 50 were not harmed at all. Why can’t 50 people, men and/or women take out a single gunman? Because they do not think, period, or they do not think they can. Two, frail, small laddies can take out a single gunman of almost any size. 1st: do not be afraid- your not going to die- you are going to survive and succeed and save those around you -that is your mind set-period!!! Do not stray from that mind-set. Start, do not stop for any reason-what ever it takes, throwing, swinging, biting and scratching- what ever is your genre- do it quickly and continue in a rage until the job is done. Now, multiply that rage times 50 – what do you have- saved lives and a warning to all who would consider the same- we are Americans- we do not surrender or fail. Put this into perspective. The Main Stream Media, Government and certainly the anti gun groups are hyping this tragic mass killing as something to fear to the point of disarming action. Its being broadcast 24/7 to achieve this goal. The reality is don’t focus on this too much while driving because you chance of dying in a car accident is much greater.
Interestingly there are approximately 3.2 million AR15s in the US. Given half an opportunity the government would confiscate every one of them as they are implying that their owners pose a threat. Rifles of all types at last tally were used in 248 murders in 2014 with semi auto rifles a sub percentage of that. There is no problem blaming the mass of gun owners but woe to anyone that desires to limit immigration to people with Islamic Fundamental sympathies.
Be aware of your surroundings but keep this in perspective as the hype is meant to elicit a political concession not inform or save you.

That is exactly what they did in California. Specifically with certain varieties of the SKS rifle. First they said “Register them and you can keep them”. Later they said, “Well, we’ve changed our minds. Either turn them in or sell them out of state……or else.” The “or else” would be to be charged with a felony if you are found in possession. Of course, anyone who registered their rifle had already let them know where the weapon was located.
To date and to my knowledge, there have been no mass confiscations of these weapons. But mark my words, get caught with one in your possession and you’ll be charged with a felony.
What needs to happen now is that we need to make it abundantly clear to the tyrants that any law they attempt to pass will be met with massive active resistance. Perhaps one thing that could be done is a general strike and acts of civil disobedience.

I don’t know how you people can believe this crock and bull story! I knew it was phony as soon as I saw the “news”. How the heck can a sole gunman round up and hold hostage 300 people? If you were in a mix of 300 people and a gunman came along, and you were not armed, would you stnd there, pathetically while he rounded you’ll up and eventually shot and/or injured 100 people? How come he was never rushed by all these people? How could the cops spot him and kill him amongst all the people he “captured”. and what were his plans for all these hostages? I understand your point, and on face value, agree with it. However, remember what happened with the victims of the Holocaust. They were in a very similar situation. Virtually all of them knew that they were going to die….and yet with few exceptions, no resistance or attempts to overpower the guards were ever made. For the most part, they quietly submitted to their fate. I’m sure that there is some psychological explanation for this, but I don’t know what it is.
I think the author of the article is correct. Unless a person has a predetermined course of action ingrained in their psyche, the natural response to a lethal threat is to act the way a rabbit reacts to the presence of a predator……it freezes. In many cases, it never even attempts to flee. Fear can cause just such paralysis.

I’m attracted to gunfire like moth to a flame. If I heard gunfire in a building I don’t think I could get myself to exit. I don’t think my legs would run away from the scene.
Frankly, I just don’t know what happens to me. Its not like I’m superman or anything. Its as if, in the face of danger, I have absolutely no fear. Its almost like it calms me. I don’t know what has caused me to be this way. I’ve never been faced with a gunman shooting people but I’ve been in a couple accidents and I’ve witnessed some traumatic events and its like the adrenaline does something strange to my brain.
From being in the middle of terrifying (to most people) storms to auto accidents to robberies and crime its like when the adrenaline hits my brain it switches off the fear.

It’s almost like, ‘instant clarity’ when something happens. Your senses seem to be enhanced. You are drawn to it because of curiosity. The lack of fear may be due to the adrenaline being administered in controlled amounts.
When the event is over, and everything is somewhat back-to-normal, you may experience some fear and slight to heavy withdrawal symptoms of the adrenaline, such as fatigue, headache, irritability, etc.
If alone, we tend to investigate (…’Drawn to the Flame’…). If with others, we tend to protect (…’Escape & Evade’ or ‘Protect the Castle’…)

Example: I was sitting in a hamburger joint with two of my friends a few years ago. One friend choked on a fry. I mean could not breath, stuck in his throat kind of choked. He banged on the table. I remember the look on his face. Pure unadulterated terror. My other friend was absolutely terrified. Me? Nah. I quickly said, “Everybody relax. I got this. Ben, don’t struggle. You’re gonna be fine.” I moved behind him, did an easy hymlick. Didn’t work. I did it again harder. I still remember seeing the fry riccochet off the plate and bounce off the window and hit the floor.
2 minutes after it was over both of those guys were like, “THAT WAS AMAZING! HOW CAN YOU DO THAT?” I became just a little shaky after it was all over, but when the chips were down, I did what needed to be done without hesitation and without fear and not a single thought of terror or confusion.
Am I one of those guys that will run into a burning building and drag people out without hesitation? I think I am. I can see myself in a mass shooting. I can see myself getting riddled with bullets right before I break the guys neck and shove his gun sideways up an important exit then collapsing later from blood loss as they’re picking bullets out of me.
Don’t congratulate me. Don’t envy me. Its nothing I did. Its nothing I’ve earned. Its just how I’m wired.

Orlando was not the largest mass murder in the U.S., as our feckless leftist media erroneously reported.
THE LARGEST MASS SHOOTING IN US HISTORY HAPPENED December 29,1890. When 297 Sioux Indians at Wounded Knee Creek on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota were murdered by federal agents & members of the 7th Cavalry who had come to confiscate their firearms “for their own safety and protection”. The slaughter began after the majority of the Sioux had peacefully turned in their firearms. The Calvary began shooting, and managed to wipe out the entire camp. 200 of the 297 victims were women and children.
Wounded Knee was among the first federally backed gun confiscation attempts in United States history. It ended in the senseless murder of 297 people.
The Second Amendment, the right of the people to take up arms in defense of themselves, their families, and property in the face of invading armies or an oppressive government. The Second Amendment was written by people who fled oppressive and tyrannical regimes in Europe, and it refers to the right of American citizens to be armed for defensive purposes, should such tyranny arise in the United States.

Regarding toughening up the population, I have always supported military service for everyone for a number of reasons. It is the best way to create resilient citizens: there isn’t a single thing that does it as well as the military does (they kind of wrote the book on resilience in the face of horror).
Yet, we have more and more calls for turning people into simpering wimps crying out for ‘safe spaces’ that will never exist.
People need to be exposed at a young age to the realities of the world. Not playing video games and watching gore on YouTube but being put into challenging situations first hand. Basically, two years of military service or two years overseas or working in a hospital or care home. No outs. We need better people in the population.

Sarge, good advice, but I would mention you have to look at your front sight through your rear sight. Same rule applies for handgun, rifle, and shotgun. If you have a scope on your rifle or shotgun, that’s even better.
bh…after you have been shooting for too many years… an average of 300 rounds per month…you no longer see the rear sight, you know exactly where it is.

Buy more guns and practice shooting. Take a course in martial arts and/or boxing. Learn how to both use a knife for protection and how to protect yourself from an assault with a knife. Always be aware of your surroundings.
Know where the nearest exit is, and make sure you have a path to get there.

If the shootings happened at closing around 2 am, why did the police wait hours before attempting to enter the nightclub, allowing those shot to bleed out. Were they afraid of possible Aids infected blood? This event and the law enforcement actions seemed to have been pre scripted to me.

Something I am trying to learn, with some success, is knife throwing. I used to throw darts on many leagues back in the day, and recently decided to see if I could still hit what I aim at, with something heavier than a dart. I am pleased that my hand – eye coordination is still on the “mark” and I come within a few inches from the center of an average dart board at a distance of 6 ft. Silent, deadly, and unexpected. I like that.

I understand the accept death philosophy as a part of the normal SF training. But, since the word soul is included here, and since if you believe in such it is eternal and never perishes,then why in the world would you ever adopt the ‘I’m already dead’ philosophy?
Why would you not think the exact polar opposite of that; the ‘since my soul is immortal and just goes around and around the karmic wheel, from visible tangible body, to invisible energy being, and back to a body again, then there is NEVER anything to fear, since the worst that can happen to me is I just go back home for a while?

I have a concealed carry permit and shooter’s insurance and I carry every time I leave the house. I do not choose to go to crowded entertainment events such as concerts and parades, especially those places where the crowds are consuming alcohol. Those kinds of events are natural targets for terrorists or drunken brawls/riots. I do not give my business to any civilian/commercial venue that posts a “no firearms” sign at its front door — they don’t deserve my patronage. I make sure I limit my time inside banks, post offices, public libraries, court houses or any other building where fire arms are always prohibited but where I need to conduct business (my armed husband waits nearby and guards my firearm until I am back outside to re-arm). That said, anyone who brandishes what looks like a firearm in my presence and expresses intent to rob, take hostages, kill for Allah, or any other intent to cause mayhem is going to draw my immediate fire. I don’t care if he is “just kidding.” I will aim center mass and fire as many shots as it takes to put him down and then finish him off with a round to the head just in case he’s wearing body armor. I’ll take my chances in court afterward.
