Storm Shows Americans Are Totally Unprepared: “I have no food, I have no cash, so I’m trying to forage for something”

As the biggest storm in five years took aim at California this week cities across the state distributed sandbags, cancelled school and warned residents to prepare for power outages. And though the storm didn’t really live up to the media hype, some people did take the warnings to heart and made last minute trips to the grocery store to stock up on foodstuffs and other supplies just so they wouldn’t have to go out in the rain.

But not everyone was prepared. One San Francisco resident in particular highlights just how susceptible America is to disasters and what to expect in the event of a widespread emergency.

“I thought we were going to watch tv all day, but now the power’s out,” Beth Ludwig said. Her mom added that the kids had never experienced a power outage before.

Georgia Virgili was one of the hundreds of thousands in the Bay Area who lost most of the conveniences of modern life.

“I didn’t have power,” Virgili said. “I couldn’t get my car out of the garage, I have no food, I have no cash, so I’m trying to forage for something.” (CBS)

The storm that swept California over the last 48 hours wasn’t really that severe. Moreover, the public had nearly three days of advanced warning that it was coming. Yet, even this was apparently not enough to convince people to make even the most basic of preparations.

Mr. Virgili was totally unprepared, as are about 99% of Americans based on recent preparedness surveys conducted by The Discovery Channel.

As many as three million Americans now fall into the category dubbed ‘preppers’ – people who are making detailed plans for the end of the world as we know it.

The preppers are an ever-growing group of survivalists who take extreme measures to prepare for a major catastrophic event.

Given the various threats faced by humanity, including scenarios like an economic collapse. a rogue attack targeting our power grid or massive natural disasters, one can only imagine what it will look like should the system as a whole experience a sustained large-scale disaster.

To give you an idea, here are a couple of pictures taken in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy in 2012. Within 72 hours the system began to break down as transportation systems in large metro areas came to a standstill. The only supplies available were being distributed by the National Guard and availability was so thin that FEMA had to place emergency orders for more food. There was no clean water, no gas, and grocery stores had been cleaned out to the point that people resorted to digging through the trash just to find a meal:

Luckily, the emergency was similar to what we saw in California, so it didn’t come as a surprise to government officials, who had already mobilized the National Guard with distribution areas for Meals Ready To Eat and filtered water:

    72hours-2

Time and again we see the same story play out during disasters. During winter storms grocery store shelves have been cleaned out. After the Haitian earthquake tens of thousands were left without medical aid and armed gangs looted and killed anything they could. And who could forget Hurricane Katrina, where the government failed so miserably with their emergency response that it took them three days just to get clean water to those stuck in the Super Dome.

Now consider what would happen if something like this went on for days or weeks. What about months?

A recently released Congressional report suggests that a worst-case scenario grid down power outage lasting one year would leave 9 out of 10 Americans dead. This is an extreme example, of course, but certainly a plausible one and it emphasizes just how serious and horrific it will be for those who are not prepared.

That nearly 99% of Americans have made absolutely no plans to insulate themselves from disasters and emergencies is shocking, but to be expected. Most people are under the impression that all of those billions of dollars being spent by the Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Emergency Management Agency are for supplies that will be distributed to the general population should disaster strike. The government will help, but their capacity in an extreme emergency will be very limited. Former Secretary of DHS Janet Napolitano has warned that their response teams will likely be overwhelmed and she has recommended that people have at least a two week supply of food and water. But that warning has fallen on deaf ears, as evidenced by the “tragic” stories we hear in the aftermath of disasters on a regular basis.

America as a whole is not prepared.

If the worst happens we can fully expect a complete breakdown of our civilized society within 72 hours. What’s astonishing is that much of what is to come could be prevented if every individual took responsibility for themselves and put together a basic preparedness plan that included some emergency provisions like a 30 day food supply, water reserves, medical supplies and a personal defense plan.

      1. But don’t the little people know, the Government will save them, lololololol.

        • “That nearly 99% of Americans have made absolutely no plans to insulate themselves from disasters and emergencies is shocking, but to be expected.

          Normalcy Bias.

I understand Normalcy Bias, but it’s when non-preppers laugh at, scoff, mock, and ridicule preppers, then I get a little irritated.

          • Relax You and I know what feeder goldfish are for; It’s just as well the goldfish don’t know

            • ROFLMAO 🙂

It comes as no surprise to me that the links to this paragraph will direct the reader to the website Mac’s wife has. More shameless advertising with NO disclosure by Mac.

                • plenty of rats in the states to live off of…i’m sure there’s plenty of recipes available on google that americans have perfected throughout the years.

            • @Paranoid: Simultaneously the funniest, saddest, and most pragmatic post I’ve ever read here. Hats off O7

          • I don’t get mad I just smile and prep more… as does my team….. Power was out for seven hours on my hill…. well…. not at my house …. but I did shut down the outside lights…. no sense advertising or gloating…. he he he ….

            • Good call man!

          • FS – “Normalcy Bias” is a funny thing.
Around here , its twenty minutes to anything closely resembling a grocery store on a sunny day .
So my normal would be to always have plenty of backup supplies , and i did this long before i learned what a prepper was.
My road blows shut with snow 8 times a year and the snow plow hits me last. So when i here these stories of folks out of supplies the same day of an event , i am always suprised. I just dont get it.
But hey , I aint judging lifestyes , just sayin.

          • This Guy~ “I didn’t have power,” Virgili said. “I couldn’t get my car out of the garage, I have no food, I have no cash, so I’m trying to forage for something.” (CBS)

People are so Helpless, and stupid. You know that Release Pull Rope handle on the Garage Door by the Motor. Pull itand it releases the door from the Motor Pully system. then just raise the garage door. Just goes to show you how dependent and helpless people will do. ZERO COPING SKILLS.

These Kind of Idiots will be the ones that will pay you $100 for a Case of Bottled Water in an Emergency. $50 for a couple of gallons of Gas. Stock up preppers and get ready to make some big money. Or trade for Silver or Gold.

One of the best short flicks ever for Preppers or the unprepared. Twilight Zone “The Shelter” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zm6cMdePtMA

            • You said it correctly. Basically, people are just stupid. They have been dumbed down by modern society, to obey orders, and trust the government to do everything for them. Basically, everything that goes against common sense.
There is a reason they call them sheeple.

              • This is only one of many reasons why I prep. I ALWAYS have NO LESS than a 6-month supply of food and water in my home regardless of what happens. I always have medical supplies, camping equipment, games and books to help pass the time, etc. Also have the means of protecting home and preps. Howdy-doody hit the nail on the head with his comments. Sad, but true. This especially in commiefornia. No surprises there.

                • I’m in big box retail. Deal with the entitled and helpless on a daily basis.

                  You are the slave:
The 400 pound queen, her ancestors built the pyramids and flew their aircraft around them, rides up on her motorized throne (which we provided)and demands you hand down that pack of light bulbs because she can’t get up to reach them. Howdaphuch did she waddle in to the store in the first place?

I can’t find this! (Open your eyes and look.)

Why are you out of this!? (Ahh, cuz other people bought it all. Or stole it.)

What am I supposed to do!!!???? (Roll over and die, PLEASE.)

Sheeit. It’s gonna get messy. You have no idea how many assholes are out there with a right to everything and anything they want. And what’s queenie gonna do when the battery in the store’s electric cart dies. She will too I guess. Man, is she gonna stink.

                  • Sales associate, I sympathize with your plight. good luck.

                  • LOL. OUTSTANDING; sales associate. Sadly ; all too true. Its going to get ugly quick. I work in customer service; and I deal with the gulliable; stupid; clueless; misinformed; dumb downed azz hats on an almost daily basis. Some days I sincerely feel like punching someone for being so effing dumb.

              • I read that during the hurricane Sandy event, the American Red Cross had something like 80 empty trucks driving around to be ‘visable’.

                • YEP , It wasnt all trucks , but every car , van or truck that had red cross decal was on the road.

          • I THINKG OUR GOOSE IS COOKED

            • Anonymous: Is that a goose cooked at your house, if so, I’m coming over with the gravy ’cause I’m getting hungry. Oh, you mean that figurative one, yeah, they’re all screwed.

          • Even without ‘prepping’, I’ve always tried to maintain about two weeks of food in the cupboards. Might not be good eating, or balanced meals, but calories for a couple of weeks. Tide you through a tight month or a mini-financial setback in the days when I had no real savings and a small paycheck. Always had some spare fuel for the camp and mountain stoves, and some wood stacked up for heat.

          • How many of that 99% refused to admit to prepping as they should?

            • Yup. Real preppers are familiar with Opsec.

        • MAMA SAY’S stupid is as stupid does. Live like an idiot, die like an idiot. People have been warned for years complete with real disasters and still choose to sit back and be part of the I need entertainment commitee. They get everything they deserve, let them eat garbage. It’s way past the point of trying to wake them up, I don’t even try anymore. Pathetic zombies and theyre stupid pointless lives of consume more, get the latest crap phone, etc. Good riddance I say. 🙂

          • WELL , Come on now , Not everyone can be born with all the brains and good looks like those of us here at SHTF !
            Go easy on em .

            • Now, wait a second…this folks DID have plenty of warning that this storm was coming, and they chose not to believe the warnings. Let this be a wake up call for people to prepare. How many wake-up calls do adults really need?
These are the same people who thrive on “reality TV” so, they are the weakest links in the human chain.
              Let the Herd be thinned.

              • Meh…i prefer the stupid to continue to ignore the warnings to let darwin play. Less live zombies and sheeple to swarm supplies and come banging on your door. Reminds me of thr recent movie: Goodbye World, if you can look at everyone in that film and place them in different degrees of sheeple…its quite entertaining.

                • @ Oathkeeper… how did stockton fare in the storm? Plenty of overtime for the street/sewer crews?

              • Maybe Darwin wasn’t TOTALLY off base after all.

              • To be fair to the television watching drones, the media faces do have a tendency to overhype every rainstorm as a major catastrophic event. There probably a level of warning fatigue at play as well.

            • So true! Loved the comment, thanks.

          • HOMEMADE SHNAPPS RECIPE…

Mix 3 pounds of sugar per gallon of water (heated but not boiling), cool to about 95 degrees, add turbo yeast (available from hillbilly stills.com) stir for 1 minute.
Siphon into large sterilized glass container or food grade bucket with a lid. Attach an airlock (cheap at midwestsupplies.com) Keep it at as close to 80 degrees as possible for 1 week. Mix 1 tablespoon of bentonite clay per gallon into enough hot water to disslove it and add proportionatly to your sugar/water mix and stir for 1 minute and reattach lid and airlock. After 2 days siphon the mix into sterile glass jugs (avoiding the sediment on the bottom) taste some of the mix, if it has any sweetness, reattach the airlock to the jug and give it a couple more days. When the sweetness is gone siphon the mix into a sterile glass container and loosly cap it. Heat the jug(s) in the oven to 130 degrees (no more and no less) to kill the yeast. Add flavoring extract to taste and sugar to taste and stir. Let sit for a day and siphon into sterile glass bottles with about 2 inches of headspace and cap. This should be around 20% alcohol (40 proof). The cooler the fermenting temp. the longer it will take to ferment. This is a cheap and easy way to make your own booze for your end of the world party 🙂

            • Genius, Thumbs up, thanks for the recipe. I make wine and my fancy airlock it a dollar air hose tube for fish tanks running from my ferment bucket into a small glass jar half full of water, not pretty but hey it works. Lol!

              • I used that system for a long time too lol. It works, just be sure the hose going into the fermentor has a good seal 🙂

            • Simmer half a dozen juniper berries in a pint of distilled water.
              Add a pint of everclear
              You got “bathtub” gin .

              • Hammer, thats if you got some everclear. Make your own with JRS’s recipe and the additional info that is in moderation for whatever reason.

            • To raise the proof of your schnapps, before you bottle it, when finished put it back in food grade bucket and put in deep freeze. Every day scoop off ice with ladle until no more ice freezes.

This is for information only as the Revenuers frown on anyone actually doing this.

              • JRS, damn man we have to trade names now! What a great idea! Use a slightly funnel shaped container (5 gal. bucket) and freeze the alcobase before flavoring. I figure that filling a 5 gal, bucket to about 1/2 to 1/4 inch from the top then freeze it. Hell you could just set it outside in winter and as it freezes the water expands and lifts the ice just above the bucket to where you can grab it and slowly take the whole block out and chuck it. Pour the alcohol in the bottom in a jug and repeat the steps! When yer jug is full just pour it slowly through a medium sizes funnel with a screen in the bottom and rinsed activated charcoal about 3/4 of the way up. My head is goin nuts with the possibilities of WINTERSHINE lol. What a brewers dream! No BS with distilling or bad batches just pure alcoheaven lol. Flavor and or sweeten the shine and yer in bizness. Thanks so much for the idea YOU are a genius! In case any of you want to try this make sure you clarify the mash a couple times with bentonite to get rid of the particle crap first. I have to go and mentaly masterbate with this idea lol. Oh and put JRS in my hall of fame 🙂

            • Genius;
It’s reasons like this that I read this site.

              GR

              • Go to the store and watch for Pineapples that are to ripe for normal sale, you can get them cheap, or peaches. Throw them in the mix, oranges are also good. You will like the result.

          • agreed genius,
ol’ Georgia virgili in above horror couldn’t open his garage door with out power. really.. couldn’t figure out what that big red pull chord and handle hanging from the door was for. jeeezzz. talk about couldn’t find their way out of a wet paper bag.
that’s the kind of mentality we’re talking about here. would it really do any kind of good for these dim-wits to prepare, probably not. should you waste your time anymore trying to warn them, probably not.

          • Exactly Right Genius, Now is the time for OPSEC, Shhhhhhhh…. if you try to encourage people to prep now, you are advertising that you do. Either people got it a few years back or they didn’t. There were just too many signs, and stupid shows out there like Doomsday Preppers. Any person with a Pulse heard about it.

So now, after most of them are dead you can go scavenge all their Stuff for FREE out there, that they no longer need. It will be a Bonanza!!

I finished building my 2 Security Gates and Tall Privacy Fence today, and added the Lock latches. Also Painted a shed today, and Put a New Tin roof on it for $150 last week. Its a $900 Shed if I were to replace it. Just like New again, with a fully new wood floor. More storage for Yard tools etc. People, you need to have skills and tools to build what you need. Do NOT Depend on Anyone but yourself. Be self-sufficient and smart. Prep Heavy!! Friday Stock Market DOW Down 315 Pts today, and Oil down $3+ in $57 Range. The Collapse Tidal Wave is coming!!

            • WWTI, great minds think alike 😉

          • It’s sad to have to agree with what you say. But you are totally right. They get what they deserve.

          • Genius, spot on. I have to agree. I wish the thumbs feature was back so I could give you 1000 green thumbs for this post. No cure for stupidity, especially commiefornia.

          • Genius: People are going to die and it’s very sad. Things will be the worst in cities. Part of prepping means getting away from cities. Most people in this country are unable to move away to where it’s safer.

I don’t like cities or city people, but I do care and I feel sorry for the nightmare that’s about to visit them.

        • No phone
          No lights
          No motor cars
          Not a single luxury….

          • Bet y’all couldn’t read that without mentally stretching out the last syllable of luxury. And I bet you thought ‘like Robinson C’rusoe’ next, didn’t you?
I know, it’s a curse. Like “Cat scratch fever” dun dun dun. Can’t be helped. We’re genetically programmed that way…

            • No pool, no pets……

              • Ninety-nine percent unprepared…….that of course leave us, the one percent. Dems a lot of bullets we gonna need before the government gears up and starts handing shit out from the back of military trucks.

                • Soon as the truck comes, I wanna get me some of them Mutated Radiated Edibles. The cake is delicious!

                  • MRE….Meal, Rejected, by Ethiopians, One Each.

                  • Don’t count on a truck delivery, I will hijack it before it ever gets to you lol 😀

                    • Seriously!

                • …assuming the roads are clear from debris and the Mutants can actually walk to get their Free Cheese-N-Stuff.

                • When the trucks show up, they may not be delivering. Just say’n.
                  A guy can hope tho.

                • I know they say theres always that one guy, but one percent?

              • No cigarettes, no sleep, no light, no sound….
Nothing to eat, no books to read.

              • SmokinOkie and PO’d Patriot, I recognize those lines from “King Of The Road” by Roger Miller. It fits the commiefornia situation to a T.

        • But all this is something we DIDN’T already knw?

          Aussie

        • Every peoples are responsable for himself and they’re familly……so instead buying crap buy food and prepare! !!!! And brace for impact !!!!!!

      2. I suspect that if any state would have the greatest percentage of least prepared people it would be “La La land” narley, surfs up dude California. What they get out of the publics mouth in videos when asked questions on the street makes one believe that culturally thats a different nation. The least prepared of the least prepared would probably be San Francisco.

What you got is the offspring of Jeff Spacoli of “Fast Times At Ridgemont High”.

        • Yea like the lady who couldn’t get her car out of the garage. Maybe she can hang herself from the red handle pull rope(for use when the powers out) on the garage door opener.

          • Damn…you beat me to it. That was exactly what I was thinking…..LOL

            • Me too.

              • yup, me too!

                GR

                • It’s Commiefornia. what did you expect?

          • For the morbidly obese scooter zombies, the rope may not be strong enough. They should reinforce the rope with a libtard bumper sticker: I ♥ Obamacare, Obama 2012, Single Payer Health care NOW, Impeach Bush, Mother for Peace, ad nauseum. There are plenty of these trashy stickers in Mexifornia!

            • I have 1000 pound test nylon.

        • The National Guard couldn’t get the San Francisco-ites to take the MREs and water until they told the locals that these were Apple iMREs and Starbuck’s pre-coffee.

          • Classic!

        • …I’m in California….and since The US DoD made me wait a full year after my retirement to start paying my pension…I found myself standing in food lines because I couldn’t work with my epilepsy…and yet they refused to pay the pension…until it “went through channels”!!! Now…I have at least a years worth of supplies…canned food, rice, beans, spam, chicken, tuna, water, water filtration…generator….stored gasoline….and self protection….medical gear…radios (ham & marine)…. batteries, flashlights…solar lights…etc. etc… However…since Obama signed his little executive order limiting the amount you can store to 3 days worth of supplies….I keep a low profile…appear to look poor… and stay out of people’s way…until the time comes to defend myself and property.

          • Sorry to hear you got stiffed! Thankfully, however, Michelle-Marie Antoinette Obama hasn’t had to cut back on one iota of her uber-luxe vacations, you’ll be glad to hear.

Rumour has it next month she is renting out Lichtenstein for just her and 800 of her socialist cronies. The unwashed masses of Lichtenstein residents can just vacate their homes prior to her arrival.

            Now, do you feel better?

          • RJ, sorry to hear about what the feds did to you but glad to see you prepped. Obama can stuff any and all EOs he signs. don’t mean shit to me. good luck.

          • What’s this about limiting supplies to 3 days worth?

          • So you had an epiphany after retirement that the govt. you served so well didn’t give one shit about you? DOD huh? Well, thanks for saving us from those make believe terrists on 911! Good your up on your preps, you will need them after your glorious service to the NWO masters! Karma is a bitch muthufukka, you will get some guaranteed!

            • Oh and another thing DOD shill, no one here with half a brain posts what they have. You have no idea moron. So go get some other forum to post your fishing trip on. My wife even thinks your a shill. Or a legitimate retard. As I say, the govt. employ’s the least intelligent of the herd.

          • Hats off brother, I get tired of all of the stories from the other end of the spectrum- people who make 75k a year and claim they can’t afford to prep.

        • @ Kevin2

Yep….It’s another Planet out there in Commiefornia…

I have always said that California is like a box of Nature Cereal..

” What ain’t Fruits Or Nuts is Flakes !!! ”

It seems to me that more people are becoming more Stupid by the day..If that is Possible….Damn, I have heard some Super Stupid Statements lately…..I don’t want to play with those people any longer !!!

      3. Kevin2 “California a different nation”? I thought it was a different planet!

      4. So what have I been saying. Some people can’t be helped, there’re too far gone, too close to becoming real zombies. If they had read this excellant site, took the advice and purchased some of the survival products then, their chances of making it through hard times would be better. They could have read Yankee Anti Zombie Survival Manual from Amazon for free if member, and learned the 101rules never to break. But no! The Americans say “stupid is as stupid does,” and because most don’t understand good advice they are up the creek because TSHTF. If you are drowning and somebody throws you a rope, will you grab it? Not in America. That’s how far gone the people are in this neck of the woods.

        • I think they call this thinning out the gene pool.

          • Its Culling of the Weak Helpless Gene pool. Like Smokers, Self-inflicted Stupid People killing themselves before they can collect Social Security. I should buy and hand out free cigarettes just to encourage more stupid people to smoke. It will leave more social security money for me and smart people. My cousin just died at 59 Yrs Old, and I thought about all that Social Security Money he paid in over his lifetime and now he never got to collect a dime. Poof Gone!! Nobody can collect it now. He was a smoker, I know in his early years. Haven’t seen him in decades, out of state. That’s one way to keep Social Security Solvent, Get rid of all the old people about to collect. lol

            • WWTI, hers a link for you lol (rollyourown.com) smoke em if you got em 🙂

So are we going to become smoke free preppers?
How about no fat preppers. No old age preppers. No Beer or soda preppers.

        • LJ: Do you mean I, myself, actually have to grab out and reach that life line MYSELF? Won’t the government do it for me? It’s not fair that I have to reach out for a lifeline, and it isn’t fair that I am drowning because I refused to turn off DWTS when that 300 foot tsunami was approaching.

          • 🙂

      5. Sometimes the best way to learn is the hard way. I have no sympathy for these people. They have been told countless times and they still hide their heads in the sand.

        • For many People, when they run out of toilet paper and go to the store, and none is on the shelves either, the Light Bulb Pops in their head. I shudda prepped. Then fight over the last case of water like Black Friday over big screen TV’s.

          • WWTI, I bet they would blow bubbles in the same toilet for a roll lol. Too stupid to figure out there are other sources ha ha ha.

      6. Here in New Hampshire we experienced the fourth worst power outage in the state’s history over Thanksgiving Weekend. Nearly 1/5 of the population was without power, including myself(20 hours). Night temperatures one night got down into the single digits. It was GREAT, then the power came back on and burned out my Comcast modem and we had no phone or internet for a week. Unformunately we got a new modem and the telemarketers have found us again. Plenty of gasoline on hand and the generator worked as planned, plenty of food and water, I was even delivering water jugs to my neighbor. We heat with wood, so nothing different there. We have had a lot of rain this week, so I’ve decided the next investment needs to be a battery powered sump pump, so I don’t have to run the generator just for the sump pump.

        • I was glad our power stayed on during that storm, but I made darned sure to figure out some good turkey recipes that could be cooked on the stove if the power DID go out in the middle of us cooking our bird. Turkey croquettes, turkey tetrazzini and turkey soup were my preference. FYI, if you put a raw turkey into water to cook it up as a soup, it tastes very much like chicken soup. It doesn’t taste at all like turkey soup made from a bird that has already been roasted.

          • We take the legs and wings off, quarter up the rest and throw it into the pot. I like to roast a whole clove of garlic on the wood stove, add some sage and oregano and white pepper, then add it to the pot next.

Give it an hour or two and throw some potatoes, green onions and carrots in there with it. Finish it with some hot buttered biscuits and some iced tea.

            Yum Yum…

        • Glad to hear some people are prepared. Kinda restores my faith that not everyone is clueless.

      7. How can a sane person not have 24 hours of food?

        • We were not talking about sane people, the article was about Californians…

          • True. 🙂

        • A way to raise extra Money for prepping is to list all your stupid stuff you don’t use on Craigs List. I have an item I’m selling today, for $45 that these people are driving an hour and a half away, to come and get it, and paying me cashola. The biggest item I sold this year was $1750 Cash for a Marble statue, that I only paid $1000 for 13 yrs ago. My neighbor’s house that was foreclosed on, and they left a bike with a bent wheel in the curb trash. I picked it up straitened the wheel out, sold it on Craig’s List for $35. lol Yeah call me a garbage picker. lol

          • Nuthin’ wrong with that.

        • I know a girl who lives in Philly (downtown) that fits that description. She is within walking distance to her work and everyday on the way home she will walk to the market to pick up what she needs for dinner.

Her fridge has the odds and ends but no real food.

      8. FEMA Region 9 is ripe for voluntary Martial Law. Soon they will have ballot iniatives and womb to the tomb legislation they will not resist…and don’t forget California Del Norte(Washington State)….what makes this laughable is soon socialize engineering will run out of other peoples money…then they will learn best through pain..but the test already concluded…and a “F” on their report card.

      9. No lights? No electronic music or entertainment? No tv, no radio? Nothing to drink except from a bottle? Where I’m from we call that a party. Or a hoe-down. Or a typical Saturday night at the okie compound (otherwise known as ‘that weed-patch masquerading as a farm out on route nine).
What’s the matter with those bay area folks? Just drag out the banjo, crack open a fresh jar of shine and mellow out.
Oh, wait. This is the Bay Area. Okay then, tap the ipad, download some Montovani, pop the cork on a bottle of ‘Chateau de buick Riveria ’98, and go contemplate your navel. Same results….

        • Don’t knock Mantovani. I have almost all of his albums. They’re good for helping me to sleep.

          • Right you are, Archivist. I don’t have any of his stuff, but have caught a bit of it on youtube. Beautiful orchestral arrangements indeed. Not many people with that kind of talent making music today, regardless of what kind.

            • Listening to Mantovani now..truly a fascinating talent

              • Smokin;
Sounds like a plan, I’ll be over tomorrow night for the festivities. I keep forgetting … do I make a left or a right at the burned out VW?

        • I said goodbye to Firefox the same time their fascist thought police said goodbye to Brandon Eich for exercising his rights of conscience against the homonazi brownshirts. I use Opera most of the time anyway, have for year.

      11. NOTICE; all San Fransico storm victims.
Head for Nancy Pelosi’s house, she’ll be so concerned.

        • Careful of Nancy Pelosi. She packs a handgun, of course she wants everyone else disarmed.

She can call up millitary transport in any disaster, she’s safe, and tax payers paid for royalty level prepping!

      12. If the collapse happened today I wouldn’t have to leave my property for anything except to dump poop and garbage at 3 A.M.

        • Same here, i wouldnt have to go anywhere for a loooooong time,

          • Working from home the last 14 Yrs, some weeks I never had to leave my house for anything. Maybe go get some stamps? Which I could actually have had them delivered If I wanted. lol The High Gas prices the last 5 years, had ZERO to NO impact on my expenses. I was way ahead of that transportation expense curve. Work Smart people, not hard. Working hard, just gets ya tired. I enjoy physical work though, working around the yard is good fresh air and sunshine therapy.

      13. As a Canadian living in southern Alberta.we’ve come to distrust our local federal and provincial governments. We’ve seen our share of cold hot floods heat waves and lets not forget CFB Suffield one of the largest military bases in north America only 20 miles from my house. I used to work out there as a truck driver hauling crude oil. I got a little lost one day and wound up in a restricted zone. There was a mock town right in the middle of nowhere. I came to realize what i was seeing was a training area for suburban lock down. Bullet holes in everything tank tracks leading in and out of the area. Not sure I want that help.

        • After living in BC, I also lived in Edmonton (now in the US). You guys taking it hard with the oil price drop these days?

          • No were enjoying cheap gasoline natural gas for now. The city I live in owns its own gas wells. As a result they have a monopoly on natural gas.

      14. I married a Ma. liberal and I can guarantee they don’t get it. They expect the clown in the White House to come riding into town on a white charger and solve all their problems. I don’t waste my time talking about prepping with any of them..Mountain Man

        • “He give us phone!”

      15. And they say WE are the crazy ones!

        • Are you referring to Canadians?

        • Look again at the picture at the top of the article. Only in California would the newspaper headline read:
“Old Growth Forest Decimated! Innocent 200 Yr Old Maple Attacked By Gas Guzzling SUV!

      16. So, how crazy and insane are PREPPERS now?? I’ve volunteered and assisted in many disaster (man made and acts of GOD) plain and simple, you need to be prepared for the unthinkable!! My favorite saying is: “prepare for the worst, hope (pray) for the best”!! This is GOD’s WARNING!! He is trying tell us something!! He’s saying, BE READY!!

        • Truth Seeker? So God talks to you and warns you? lol If God was looking out for you, none of this would be happening to you in the first place. Right?….. Maybe your Fantasy Guy in the Sky has No control of anything, and its all a fantasy feel good Massage therapy for the weak to indulge themselves in what could be by happenstance. NO God is going to Save you ever from anything. If You want to believe in something, Believe in yourself and study up and take personal responsibility for yourself.

          • WWTI,
Last year in November a tornado came through my neighborhood and did a lot of damage. Other nearby towns received extensive damage and still haven’t finished rebuilding. Nothing happened to my property except the electricity was out for 3 days. I had a generator. The Jesus you say doesn’t exist was certainly
watching out for me and my family that day.

          • We are all just trying to get through life, it is difficult. If someone needs a crutch, who are you to spew that demeaning, demoralizing statement you made, why would you care anyway? This site is about preparedness, and that is all he was saying, you on the other hand were attacking him for his belief, are you a terrorist jihadi? Then why attack him like you did? About his religion? Really? I Believe this is the first comment i have ever made on this site, and i look at it everyday. But i needed to defend this guy, why such hostility against someone who mentions God? Just a hateful thing to say. I have nothing against you, just pointing out hateful speech, and i don’t think that is the normal banter of this site,

        • Truth seeker, I know the feeling. People used to call me dense for prepping. Now who are the dense ones?

      17. The government has already run out of other peoples money to steal & redistribute. So now instead of reducing services they add debt and raise taxes higher. For the most part those elected do what the majority of the people want. The people don’t want fiscal responsibility. The majority want the government to do everything for them. I know some folks that really think they are prepared. they grew a big garden and raised some animals. and they harvested it and canned it all in glass jars. they proudly show everyone the pantry filled with shelves stuff full of canned food. they even canned meat. They haven’t a generator or hand well pump, no freezer. no wood stove. no outhouse. they heat with lP and cook with electric. I didn’t tell them anything. however a earthquake or tornado will break all those glass jars. if they have to bug out those glass jars will be heavy and likely to break. they proudly show it to everyone so those folks will now likely come for it. my extra meat is a small amount is frozen the rest is cured salted & smoked or made into jerky. The best prep is Self Reliance & Know How. Learn those two things and everything else is just icing on the cake.

        • Old guy, YEP!

      18. The Weather Channel has the audacity to do the local forecast ‘on the eights’. That’s when the bay area tv stations give the lotto numbers. So, of course, nobody knew this was coming. Californians are busy people. ESPECIALLY bay area Californians. They don’t have time to keep up with mundane stuff like weather.
Now, if a warning had been given on one of those free apps it would’ve been a different story.

Which supports my theory that naked fat white guys rule the world. Think about it- Yitzak Rabin? Naked fat white guy! Dick Cheney? Naked fat white guy! Ted Kennedy? Strom Thurmond? Oprah Winfrey? The list is endless.
Hell, even Obama is half white (the left half I think). And wait til he gets out of office and starts the retired life. The way Michelle eats, you think he’s gonna be able to stay on a diet? The pounds will come. Presto- he’s a naked fat white guy!
Michael Jackson became white. I bet if he’d lived, he’d have put on some weight too. Speaking of musicians, even Barry White falls into the NFWG category. Folks, this isn’t just a nutty conspiracy theory! They really are EVERYWHERE!

The reason BIG GREEN MONEY and the leftist media is all over this is because if you control energy, you control EVERYTHING it touches, which is… well… everything.

Now you know what is behind the scam. And global warming IS a scam

      25. I’m curious to know what everyday folks such as yourselves think about what if anything Canada’s roll will be in the coming collapse? Our country follows American political trend.

        • We hope the prairies will still grow grain, while we sort out our problems down here.

Our economies are so meshed together, when ours goes down, so will yours. You’ll have the benefit of a largely heterogeneous population and internal demand. We will have to deal with ours.

          • Interesting opinion any others? We really don’t hear alot about it. There isn’t a whole bunch of information about what might befall Canada. I’m not blind I see the changes here our small city just acquired a militarized APC complete with. 50 Cal swivel mount. Yes we here intend to stand for what’s right. As for the grain gmo companies have been buying up and desecrated the family farm. So your bread may taste funny till we clear them bastards out as Canadians were really hoping for the best planning for the worst and we all know its coming.

      26. this storm was deliberately geoengineered – weather control created by the u.s. air force… as they are obviously no longer shielding the west coast via geoengineering from fukushima’s eastward radiation pollution fallout.

gotta wonder just how much fukushima radiation saturation those pacific storms brought to commie kalifornication.

the storm brought more than just needed water, it brought a deluge of 4 days of fukushima radiated rain water, their public water supply, lakes, streams, ponds, pools, reservoirs, definitely all register as radiation contaminated and glow in the dark now.

And it will only get more concentrated with radiation from this point on.

so enjoy the gift of rain california as it does come with a heavy price to all those who drink , bathe , grow food , cook , and recreate with it.

            POINT #2

The once “Golden State” is literally being fried by what can only be considered an all out weather warfare assault. Our own governments ongoing climate engineering programs are wreaking havoc on American populations. The constant aerosolizing of the atmosphere is radically reducing precipitation over California as well as totally disrupting the storm track upstream from the State. Rain that should have fallen in the West is increasingly coming down in deluges further east, welcome to geoengineering. The map below is stark confirmation of the factors already mentioned.

CHINO VALLEY, Ariz. — Marie Snow and her friend Cori Gunnels knew they stumbled across something sinister, one November day, this year, when they saw what appeared to be 50 to 60-foot long “raindrops”, “solid” in nature, falling from the sky in clusters, after three military aircraft, including a C-130, flew overhead, minutes prior, at an altitude of an estimated 5,000-8,000 ft.

Using critical thinking skills, Snow and Gunnels, patriots and local residents, decided to collect samples of the fibrous material which was deployed from the three military planes earlier that day, saving the samples for testing. In fact, the fibers looked so ominous that Snow even opted not to touch them with her “bare hands” and collected them on “white pieces of paper”.

        Sgt.

      29. Even for those not subscribing to ‘Prepper’ philosophies, wouldn’t common sense say have food and water for a week or so, flashlights, and first aid / medicines for a couple of weeks. Depending on where you are in the country there are snow storms, tornados, hurricanes, just big storms like this one, any of which could put the electricity out for hours, days, even weeks.

      30. ““I thought we were going to watch tv all day, but now the power’s out,” Beth Ludwig said. Her mom added that the kids had never experienced a power outage before.”

Ummm… should I take it that this means if there is a CME or EMP, they might just possibly not be prepared?

Oh well, if not, they can just duck over to the nearest “Yes we can/Yes we have no bananas” chant-in location and get all their needs taken care of… or not. In fact, maybe vile ole Zeke Emanuel will just up that “die at 75” recommendation to “die now.” On the plus side, I hear Solyent Green DOES taste better than Lima beans.

      31. First it’s the Welfare crowd who expect constant handouts and do not know how to take care of themselves.

Then it’s the iGeneration who are so used to swiping their hand-held devices, everything is done for them almost by magic, they don’t actually DO anything. It’s the Delete and Backspace mentality where mistakes and bad things can be fixed quickly and are just as quickly forgotten. They live in cyberspace, their brains eventually turn to mush due to non-use, so nothing much sinks in. Plus, this “connected” generation is too busy texting to bother wanting to know what’s happening in the real world.

All this results in reaction instead of proaction, so they rush out at the last minute or during a storm to buy essentials that they should have had on hand and that they could have bought earlier on sale instead of at now inflated prices. It boggles my mind.

      32. Maybe you could suggest ways to learn about such things such as how to open garage door without electric, instead of mocking people!

      33. San Francisco? i guess the latest fashion trends consume all of their disposable funds so they have nothing left for frivolous things like water, food, and emergency lighting. Don’t those fashionable threads look good in the dark.

      34. One of the many advantages of living in the NC mountains is almost everyone is a prepper as a normal lifestyle. The exception are those who have been enticed to be on the government dole (mostly young folks).
Since stores are a good distance and older folks still garden and can food most have a good store of food in the pantry.
Power outages happen due to falling trees in storms and we don’t get power for several days because most are not on “main” power feeds. Generators are common here. Almost all homes have fireplaces and wood is plentiful.
I would like to take credit for being really smart and future seeing, but the truth is we moved here for the beauty and wholesomeness…it took a few years for the light bulb to come on we lived in a area where people have been self sufficient for hundreds of years and we adopted their lifestyle. Heck, the Foxfire books where written about/by the people here. The school that the books originated from (Rabun Gap–Nacoochee School) is five miles from our place.
Sometimes you have blind luck…we did.

        • Everybody should have a set of the Foxfire books.

      35. I was driving a truck when Katrina came ashore on New Orleans, I got stuck on the Highway. I saw the people leaving and tried doing the same. It went to total chaos. It was like the walking dead show. I saw people killing each other. No media was around and I saw military type people shooting at black people and anybody that looked like they had a phone or camera was shot to death. I escaped through a wooded area along with a family and two young children who were orphaned by their parents being slaughtered. It was a nightmare. We went two weeks running through the swamps and eating anything the two hunters killed for food. It is a big coverup by the media and the government about what really happened in Louisiana. They killed many people of colour and those that were of low means. The poor were slaughtered like animals by the government. I saw this happening and could not believe what I was seeing. They did not disperse the people around the nation the way they say on the media. Some did just to make it on the news for the medias sake. Ask anybody who knows anybody out there, if they have kept in touch with family members. They don’t even know if they made it out alive or where they went. This is the biggest conspiracy in the USA that I can think of. I was there and I witnessed the wholesale slaughter of American citizens. Our government used this event to implement and try out all their tactics on the poor. Too many secrets from the media let’s me know not to trust the media or the government. So many bodies in the mass graves in the swamps. God help America to see what they are planning for the rest of us! It is my honest to God experience. The children were kept by one of the ladies in our group who escaped. We ended up in Texas in a small town, thanks to a Highway patrol officer who knew what was happening he quietly escorted us into central North Texas, we all went our separate way from there. We kept silent because we knew this is our burden to carry and not be outspoken about it. It could mean not just our lives, but the lives of the two children that were with us. I know more people are on the internet more outspoken about this. But I have kept silent for my family sake and that of the children that were with us. I am not on drugs, I do not drink. This is the truth. I wish more people would come out and speak about what they saw. I know that there is at least a platoon of men that went into it, who helped us escape one night we were under heavy fire. They helped us escape. These were men who knew somehow what the government had planned and had gone into this area to help rescue people. These looked like military men of some kind, only obviously they were good guys who were on their way into this mess, while we were just people trying to escape. Thanks to these young brave men. I remember one whose name was Eric, he said he was an ex-marine. He was a Hispanic. They gave us food and told us which way to go through the forest. God help us all what is happening and most are so blinded! It is happening in front of our very eyes!

      36. You don’t have to “believe” the “hype”. Just read the paper — Katrina, Sandy, the polar vortex, forest fires. The list goes on. Open your eyes.

      37. “The preppers are an ever-growing group of survivalists who take extreme measures to prepare for a major catastrophic event.”

I don’t consider having something to eat, drink and being able to stay warm extreme measures. I consider those prudent investments by someone who doesn’t want to rely on the government to take care of them.

      38. From elitist brats to scourging rats within 72 hours. I LIKE IT! Time to pay the check, Oprah fans . No sympathy for the devil.
