In many articles, I have stressed the precept “Don’t stop the training!” I still stand by it; however, there are times when as a prepper, a survivalist, a constitutional patriot, or whatever label you wish to apply to yourself…you may feel “burned out,” or lackadaisical. We are having a tremendous amount of people feeling this way since the Presidential elections of 2016. Many are questioning what need is there to prepare for the end of the world or a collapse?

That is an excellent question, yet it is best answered thusly [to paraphrase “Upgrayedd”]: Is the election of President Trump a guarantee that a collapse or a SHTF scenario will no longer happen? The answer is that it is not a guarantee of such. There are plenty of different things happening around the world. North Korea was written off as a threat in the minds of many at the time of the summit meetings, only to be revealing its fangs once again. Russia (every Hollywood film is painting them as the “bogeyman”) is still an issue, as are China and Iran. Ebola is breaking out in the Congo, and the economies of the world are on shaky ground. All the more reason to continue to train and prepare: but how do we deal with burnout?

5 Ways to Deal With Prepper Burn-Out

The answer is simple here and rendered in one word: Balance.

It is not an oversimplification. It is a word that means several different actions in different categories of preparation. Let’s cover a few of them and explore the concept.

    1. Physical Training: Overtraining here can be (potentially) almost self-explanatory, but it is more involved than it appears on the surface. When you work out a muscle group, there are two types of physical recoveries that are taking place after the workout is done: local and systemic. Local involves the muscles themselves, now in a catabolic state that needs the replenishment of nutrients such as proteins and vitamins, and actual rest from physical activity. Systemic involves the organs, such as the liver, heart, kidneys, lungs, and so forth. These, too, need recovery from the toxins produced during the course of the workout. They do not experience the same growth as muscle tissue, yet the demands placed upon them are even more to compensate physically for what you’ve “done” to yourself with a workout. Whether you’re a strength-trainer with weights or an endurance-trainer with marathons and long-distance marches, you need to give your body time to replenish and compensate after the exercise.
    2. Cross-Training:  You may have as your forte and profession the skills of a mechanic, and at the end of the day (or society), that is your main skill and interest. To give your mind a rest and also to explore other areas? You may wish to train in other skills. How about acquiring the skills of a welder? You could even pick up some training on heavy equipment or driving certain types of vehicles.  These would complement your main profession. Or find something to study that is totally different. You can never learn too much, and every skill you pick up is good for you down the road.
    3. Supplies:  Are there ever really enough? No, there are not. Your budget and time constraints, however, may say otherwise, at least temporarily. Then do something different with the existing supplies to improve them…such as store them in a special order or with a new inventory system. Take factors such as time, temperature, humidity, and dates gathered, and fine-tune your warehouse or disaster larders.
    4. Family Time: Give your mind a hiatus by having days where you’re not focused on anything but having a good time and enjoying each other’s company, whether out to dinner, or having a dinner/movie night at home, or activities with your church or any organization you may belong to. Having “normal” (a better word is unstressed) family time is just as important as preparing them for the next disaster to come up.
    5. Activities with Dual Purposes:  Make a project that will have more than one use or benefit, with one being a “Happy Hallmark Family” purpose, and the other a backup for a disaster…a “secondary” purpose. An in-ground swimming pool is a great example of this. Think of all that you guys could do with the pool in your backyard…the barbecues, the family gatherings, and such. Think also of the training that you can do: swimming is excellent for physical training. Disaster wise? Think of the in-ground reservoir you’ve built in the event of an emergency. In this case, one stone gets three birds, right?

Underlying to all of this is your mind. You must continually replenish this most valuable (and finite) resource: through proper diet, through exercise, and through meditation. You must also give your mind a hiatus from too much activity. Be aware, but do not be troubled, alarmed, or worried. Handle things in a controlled fashion and work on mental discipline and concentration to be able to take care of things as they arise.

There is a time for all things, and as such, also a time not for all things. Know when to draw the line on excess, and maintain balance in your life. You can do all of this without relenting or letting up on your prepper posture or being able to shift into action at any given time. Be as the lion: strong and prepared, resting on the grass, yet mindful of the cubs…ready to spring to their defense when danger threatens. Your preparations are an investment, and make sure you take some of that larder before you pack it away…and have a nice dinner with a portion of it with your family. Balance in all areas, and readiness when the time comes. Look to the lion, and look out for one another.  JJ out!

        • WOMEN MAKE UP BULLSHIT STORIES TO GET ATTENTION

TAKE A LOOK OUT THE WINDOW

WOMEN TODAY ARE SO FAT LAZY SLUTTY CYNICAL AND UNATTRACTIVE I DONT KNOW WHY ANYBODY IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WOULD WANT THEM TO GREASE HIS SHAFT

WE NEED TO THROW WOMEN THE HELL OUT OF OUR SOCIETY AND LET THEM FEND FOR THEMSELVES. BET THEY GET FUCKING HUMBLED SHIT QUICK.

      1. How to deal with prepper burnout?

        1. Make a list of what you spent on something like tools, and then note every time you used it to save money.

This is very helpful to justify whether buying it has a reasonable chance of being used. However you can just about never justify that awesome sword or rifle you want. Dang it.

        2. Exercise to get fit and improvr endurance and then note how your blood pressure fell, how many sick days you have, and rate your mood every day.

Chances are your health will improve enormously and save money. Being sick or injured is extremely expensive now. Did you know that just writing down your mood, tends to lift your mood? Because you then think, “Today is not that bad. It’s really a 5.0 on a scale of one to ten, so just fair to middlin’.

        3. Practice cooking with your supplies.
Don’t buy food that nobody likes or eats. Don’t waste your hard earned cash. Learn to mix it up. People love delicious food and improves the quality of their lives and overall morale. You reap happiness or at least contentment. Dessert and meat quality are the most important for boosting morale.

        4. Learn a new skill by volunteering when a buddy needs help.

If you need to learn carentry, welding, electrical, or whatever, it’s expensive to attend trade school, buy books and supplies, and then be absent from the house.

But by volunteering, you learn practical elements from your buddy of various “crafts” (the old school word) and improve your friendship. And whatever mistakes are made …happen on his project, not yours. Learn from your mistakes. Chances are you will take notes and realize the importance of a plan. A lot of expense is on poor planning or using the wrong dang tool.

        5. Learn some nontraditional crafts that your wife does for the family.

Everybody should wear many hats in a prepper family. Then if someone is sick, then somebody else can do it. And you can volunteer to do things she normally does. That will impress her. Teach your daughter some skills she doubts she needs to know. Later she will thank you even if it’s when she is sad and divorced.

        • Only the weak sniveling sissy’s burn out. Never give up you schleps.. You need to be prepping more now than ever, right now today as the full onslaught of collapse is about to be unleashed, as we head into these Midterm elections in Nov, the deep state is getting very desperate, so watch out for the false flags near you mostly in densely populated areas, for them to push their agendas. Avoid the cities like the plague and head out into the country for some solitude exercise and fresh air. I will be biking about 30 miles in the morning and kayaking about 5 miles on Sunday AM. Go early and beat the heat. Carry your side arm daily, and have access to extra magazines. As we head into the fall time, day light will be getting shorter, so get your Night vision, IR Game Cameras set up, to capture the creatures moving in the night. Time date stamped photos, so the criminals will have no alibi for when and where they were. Get extra batteries to run them. No trespassing signs up, motion detectors, and get yourself a few rolls of barbed wire. In a collapse these items will become instantly valuable and scarce. Buy plenty of No Trespassing signs, to keep on hand. Shoot anybody that trespasses without permission and have your holes pre-dug for a quick disposal. There is no 2nd place trophy in a shoot out.

Ivy League Study: Illegal Population is 22 Million, Double Estb. Estimate

              Breitbart
              September 22, 2018

The population of illegal migrants is roughly 22 million, or twice the establishment estimate of 11 million, say three professors from Yale University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

The shocking estimate will force establishment politicians and pro-migration advocates to recalculate the estimated impact of the huge illegal population on wages and salaries, on crime rates, welfare consumption, rental and real-estate prices, productivity rates, and the distribution of job-creating investment funds to coastal vs. heartland states.

The higher illegal population estimate helps explain why Americans’ wages and salaries have risen so little amid apparently record-low unemployment rates, and it also undercuts companies’ loud demands for yet more immigration of foreign workers, consumers, and renters.

The population estimate also raises the political and economic stakes of any amnesty legislation. In 2014, public opposition blocked the bipartisan, establishment, media-boosted Gang of Eight bill, which claimed to offer an amnesty to just 11 million migrants. Currently, advocates for a ‘Dream Act’ amnesty claim it will provide green cards to roughly 3 million sons and daughters of illegal immigrants.

TRUMP: MAGA!!! And Build the Wall and Kick the illegal invader scum out.

          • Instead of riding around in your fancy biking britches … Maybe you could be wacking down a few of those mighty oaks so we don’t have to hear you whine like a scalded schoolgirl when the next Harvey hits.

            • Are you talking to me Bill McGrill. Well in fact I did take down about a 40″ Big oak tree today that was somewhat rotted and 2 of the 2 bain brances already fell and we cleaned up for $800 a few months back, and today we went and took down the other about 70 Ft remaining branch hanging over another neighbors shed. We trimmed up the big limb as high as we coulf get to with a ladder tied a rope onto it then to a Van, then I made a nice front V cut in the front, then 2 deep plunge cuts in the middle of the trunk, then jammed 2 wedged in each side plunge cut, then cut the back strap and my pulled with his van on the tree limb. I fell absolutely perfect not hitting anything, and we cut it up and piled it up. Made $1000 Cash today doing that difficult oak tree take down. The neighbor was so impressed, he had me look at his similar tree, That sucker is at least 4 Ft in diameter. I quoted $1200 just to take it down, and if he wants it hauled away. $1800 total. And I was not wearing my Biking britches, but I am in shape and work like a tree pro. We still have lots of trees down from Hurricane Irma a year ago this month.

      2. Make it a way of life. Raise Quail. It’s healthy and therapeutic.

      3. I’ve been doubling my prepping efforts since the Insane Clown’s regime has taken power. Fanatical Republicans will collapse the economy, just like last time (2008), or start another war, just like last time (2002).
Now is the time to redouble your efforts, while there is still time, before Dumpf destroys the country.

      4. I told you so, I told you all SO.. ALL of this CELL PHONE UPDATE is BS!! Dump your Apple phones and get Android, and Never do any UPDATES Ever on your cell phones or laptops. It is sneaking hacking packets into your cell phone and you are sending all of your recorded clicks and meta data on your phone to the host when you do an UPDATE.

You see an UPDATE message, Just hit clear. And if you are using WiFI, it will automatically update so turn off ALL, GPS Slave tracking and WiFi OFF nd disable GOOGLE Administrator on your phones and never use GMAIL or Google programs.

IPhone IOS 12 Update Sneaks In Secret Trust Rating Scoring Algorithm

        09-21-2018 • ht tps://www.technocracy.news, by SEAN KEACH

Apple is now assigning trust ratings to iPhone users, based on your phone call and email habits.

The new ratings were added as part of the latest iOS 12 update, which rolled out to users on Monday, September 17.

Apple’s new system was revealed after the company updated its iTunes policy page on the official website.

According to the iPhone maker, Apple builds a score based on the number calls and emails you send and receive – to help spot fraudulent transactions made using your device.

**BULLSHIT, it is logging every one of your calls, and Who is giving your cell phone number out to spammers. They will steer trust factor calls to you that are Apple approved, so they can further their business monopoly.

      5. It is raining in Texas. But still 80 degrees.

It will be cold soon. Silk undergarments make winter much more comfortable. Christmas will be here before you know it. Prepping gifts like silk under garments go well with perfume, lavender oil and/or a box of variety essential oils. Workout equipment such as a punching bag makes for a great present for the whole family. Titanium pots don’t transfer taste from the pot. Cast iron pots are a must have. A propane burner allows you to cook without electricity. They only cost about twenty-five dollars. Get extra propane canisters for them. They are a great practical present. Scarfs, skull cap, and gloves are also a great present. If you are not sure what size someone is, a scarf is your best choice. Do you have a wood stove or fire place. Got wood? Spray with borax to keep termites away. A music instrument is an investment in your families future well being. Get your kids away from virtual reality. A family that plays together, stays together.

        _

        • Try classical music. You might develop an appreciation for the finer things in life.

Stock up on wine and good booze whether or not you drink. Costco has a nice variety at reasonable prices.

Have your butcher debone two or three turkeys. Make bone broth. See videos on the web for doing it yourself. Using string, put stuffing and spices then roll up the boneless turkey and use the string to tie the roll. Roast the turkeys. Wrap with freezer paper or vacuum seal. Freeze. Reheat and serve during holidays.

Dark chocolate is healthy. Refrigerate or freeze chocolate candy. Nuts are an important food. Buy in bulk and freeze. Brazil nuts (for selenium) at nuts dot com. Pecans (to prevent enlarged prostate). Walnuts for your brain and mood (serotonin & omega 3). Hazel nuts, almonds (magnesium), pistachios (low calorie), macadamia (high calorie), other. Also stock seeds and they too can be frozen to extend shelf life.

          _

        • B of CA is correct. I highly suggest buying 2 of these 2 Burner Propane stoves I listed below, and keep one as a backup. 1 is none and 2 is one. I’ve been using these 2 burner stoves now for outside kitchen cooking for several years off the grid. Approx $20-$30 each if you do the web research.

You will also need to buy the gas hose line adapters to connect to a #15 Lb propane BBQ grill size Propane tank. The small gas canisters may be nice for weekend camping, but cost you a small fortune for long term off the grid cooking situation. I also have 6x 15Lb Propane filled tanks as backups. When I have 2 empties, I go refill the 2 empties, rotate and stack them away. Propane last for decades. I use about 1x 15 Lb tank in 5 months for cooking and water boiling for daily coffee and hot water for dishwashing. If you use a BBQ grill for cooking, these 15Lb tanks may only last a month maybe. So I recommend this low cost efficient stove below. When it rusts out throw it away and use the next one.

*Koblenz 2-Burner Propane stove. Life span about 2 years, that I keep outdoors and under a covered roof on my porch deck. Cheap efficient and gets the job done. Skip that Coleman pump stove and costly fuels. Propane is the king.

Cookware: Get a water steam pot kettle for boiling water and for making coffee. I use ceramic lined cooking pans and lids for easy wipe clean up, and I also use cast iron occasional for cooking or on an open camp fire. In a full grid down, if you don’t have multiple ways to cook food, you are going to go hungry quick. Get prepared now today. Tomorrow may be too late.

          • Here is a Test for all your acclaimed Preppers: How about put your Prepping Skills together and give it a real actionable dry run.

On some given weekend, Flip your Grid tied house fuse box breaker to Off, Turn off your grid tied water connection Off, put down your cell phones, and start living life, to see how you do in a sudden survival mode. Practice makes perfect. This is where you get out all of your preps out of its original packaging (lol) and see how good you are a making a camp fire and or even starting a fire with your feral rod sticks. See how you adapt to no water and how no showers are avaiable, no toilet flushing, no dish washing water is available. See how you will cook food, and preserve the remaining fridge and freezer foods before they all spoil on you.

For every prepper item tool I buy, I always like to field test it, in a real situation out on some long bike ride. How easy is that hammock to put up for a temporary shelter? How does that fuel starting squares light up, to cook a Mountain House meal using boing water in a canteen cup? You will quickly discover all the flaws in your survival plan. What works, what doesn’t work and what items are just heavy space wasters in your bug out bag. Get out there and do some camping under the stars even on your own back yard. See if your sleeping bag is adequate? Summer and Winter. How will you adapt to bugs and mosquitos, and if you have mosquito netting to protect your shelter so you can get a decent nights sleep or in a tent. Start out doing this for 48 to 72 hours, then go longer like a week or a month.

I’ve been living fully off the Grid now for 3.5 years to see if I can actually maintain a normal life style free from the grid and try to be as self sustaining as possible. I camped for 2.5 months, before I acquired a more permanent shed cottage building and 1200 Watts of solar panels ad system for electricity, but I acquired this in peaceful times. Try to acquire all of this in a grid down collapse, and go try to buy some solar panels after SHTF. Many people will physically collapse just from the stress and frustration of being over whelmed thinking they were prepared and in reality, they had no idea how to really survive, cause they never did any field testing of gear, or went stealth camping with no utilities.

I highly suggest that you need to buy a port-a-pottie Lug a Lou toilet seat, for each and every person in your family and a 5 gallon bucket to attach the lid to, and several sanitary wipes containers to keep the seat clean. If every person has their own, make they responsible for their own. That will eliminate many arguments, that someone else did not clean it for the next person’s use. I found the standard plastic grocery bags fit on the 5 gallon bucket pretty well and use about 4 to 5 layers, so what isn’t caught in the first bag, the 2 bag catches. Go to Walmarts right at the entrance door and grab all the recycled plastic bags you can for free now of out their recycle box, and stack them away. Some have holes, but this is why you layer the bags. Pee separate from poop. Then have a 40 gallon plastic trash can and tight lid to dispose of the single waste bags of waste and line that can with a heavy duty black construction bag. Then when that is nearly full go dig a hole and dispose of the months waste. Got a shovel to do this? If you are in a rock area do you have a pick axe? What plan do you have now in place to dispose of your stomach waste? I bet 90% of you acclaimed preppers have no plan for toilet waste back ups.

You can read these Author Arm chair preppers articles, but if you want real advice, seek out those who are living it, not just writing about it, with No experience, just illusionary how too’s to sell click bait products.

Go fish and see how uneasy it may be to catch fish to eat. Then clean it without any water and cook it over an open fire for shits and giggles. Survival is a full time job. You will have no time for Fraudbook BS or cell phone nonsense. When the grid collapses and it will. How prepared are you really to survive for an extended period of time?

            • TSB,
Your challenge is a good one.
How many of us could meet your challenge?
I can, but I’m “special” and have most all
the stuff this site proposes as necessities.
I don’t do gas masks, suits and such.
I do prepare for when things go wrong.

      6. 6. For no reason at all, unselfishly help another human being.
The great mystery of life is “why are we here?”. We’re here to establish relationships: with GOD, through romance and lovers, with friends, with children by being parents, etc.

Nothing else matters. You can’t take wealth with you. Fame comes and goes and sometimes turns on you and makes you imfamous. Education only helps you acquire wealth, not happiness. And uneducated morons will run a business and make far more than people with the equivalent of PhDs.

A prepper should spontaneously use their ancestral skills to benefit those positive souls who are hardworking folks who benefit the community but get little recognition. This is also networking and ultimately helps the prepper. Little kindnesses heal the world and do not go unnoticed…but you may not reap rewards for decades.

A prepper should encourage neighbors, strangers, family, and friends using their ancestral skills. When they see these skills are not antiquated but are useful and have value, others will learn them.

A prepper should teach others if they have those skills, are patient, insightful, tolerant, and wise. Otherwise ancestral skills will fade and become forgotten. Canning came close to dying out. So did blacksmithing.

        7. Learn massage techniques

Did you know that the original physicians in America were osteopaths. They still exist and are called DOs instead of MDs. They do everything a MD does and prescribe medicines BUT they also know osteopathic manipulation techniques. And these actually follow the most ancient traditions of using massage as medicine.

Good health is restored by loosening the tightness in muscles, joints, ligaments, and bones. Back pain makes people’s moods to sour. Lymph is able to return and stagnate blood in the legs returns to circulation. This bolsters the immune system.

Imagine the well being and contentment to your wife if you gave her a thirty minute massage every other day. I guarantee it spices up your romance as that is how ladies are wired. They feel taken care of. They feel restored and content. We could probably banish depression in a month by doing this.

      7. To punctuate time, with a start and stop, is an example of structured thinking and some would say a religious commandment. (#4).

        • Real Preppers are burned out by useless fear porn articles like this one that have nothing to to with Americans prepparedness. Ebola in the Congo or a Nat Fly in Nigeria that has a flu virus, or planet X may destroy earth in a million years or athors like this who assume that preppers are burned out and writes fake phony articles that Russia is attacking America. All BS. Im burned out on lying scumbag authors who think they are experts. With Fake names, fake info, fake military credrntials aka stolen valor. All BS.

          • Agree. Prepper burnout comes when you start trying to prepare for too many possibilities, but you never actually finish preparing for any of them. Thus you always have something else to buy or something else that needs to be done. You never feel done, and that means burnout.

Just go back to basics and review your 3 days without power preps, then your 7 days after a disaster without help preps, then your 30 days in case of pandemic or social unrest preps. These are all do-ables and cover multiple scenarios.

If you feel burned out after that, don’t start your solar powered hydroponic greenhouse fertilized by water from your tilapia tank project.

          • Also BS articles from that fake Venezuelan going by the name Jose Martinez writing boohoo sob stories then asking for money. Don’t fall for that scam.

      8. Terrorists attack military parade in Iran. The terrorists were the MEK. Their largest base is in eastern Iraq. It is guarded and protected by US troops. The terrs are armed and funded by the US. So much for the war on terror. US troops under the command of Globalist politicians in Washington, I should point out.

        • Just saw on Fox where a marine is in military prison because he killed an ISIS fighter? Since when do we shackle our Devil Dogs??

      9. Excellent post, JJ, and something that always comes round. Balance relieves stress, and makes for a well rounded man or woman or child. As the Bible says, Wisdom is justified by her children. T

        • Children have nothing to do with wisdom.

1st Rule of Parenting: Never negotiate with Terrorists.

I may stop prepping when every commie liberal scum Cheww is removed from America, dead or alive. Thats America’s greatest threat and enemy to our freedoms liberty and culture.

      10. You know the country is in mixed straits,no time to back off of training nor stacking. The coming election may put you back to packing and stacking. Lets not back off…it isn’t comfortable yet.

      11. And further more, I’ve always said that there are at least 20 million illegals in this country. The politicians and the MSM have been saying there are only 11 million. But they’ve been saying the same number for several years, as if no one else broke into our country during those several years! Well, now Yale and M.I.T. have concluded an in depth survey and have determined that at least 22 million illegals are here. At least the debate can include a better number now. It affects the cost and also crime stats. At least 20% of all Federal prisoners are illegals. And contrary to public opinion, they are getting social services.

        • Illegals are getting social services, not prisoners. Needed to clear that up.

        • Last year, Ann Coulter bravely stated on a Mexican news channel that since 127.5 million Mexicans are officially in their population, that her data supported the FACT that 12 million illegals were Mexican and thus how could any nation effectively absorb ten percent of an entire nation?

Now consider this study! It’s shocking buried data the leftists do not want the American people to know.

Kick them out NOW. Nations routinely eject illegal aliens as they are breaking immigration law.

        • 7% of US Congressional Representatives are Dual Citizens. WTF? Ameruca has been hijacked bigtime.

      12. For me, to constantly prepare for SHTF is stressful and pulls resources from daily life. What would be more stressful would be to be convinced that SHTF is coming and to do nothing. Better to have something and not need it than to need something and not have it.

      13. Best thing you can do is to organise with a mix of people, preferably with many females in the ages of 16 up to 25. Not only, with some discipline can you get them to do the chores, but you can also have a busy and fun atmosphere that will make your preparations exciting. Give them t-shirts, divide them into teams, and every month invite some ‘bucks’ from nearby to come to a dance, but the price of admission is a quarter of their preps. You soon will be the richest prepper and you will have something that commands a premium price.

        • Funny Frank, but it won’t be some Amish barn hoe down when the shit hits the fan. The young bucks will steal your stuff and rape those young gals you invited over to do your chores. Prolly try and rape you too if you try this shit.

        • Frank:

Sounds like you have a deathwish. You’re going to end up getting shot. Just as there is no law to stop you from living out your fantasies, others in this Country have their own fantasies. Some people would like nothing better than killing pimps. I knew a cop that beat up every pimp who he encountered inside his vacinity. All the other cops did the same thing. Child molesters and pimps are on Santa’s list of bad boys. Most people are disgusted by pornographers, pimps, and child rapists.
