Yes, this is a true story. I was completely shocked when I learned about this too, and this just underscores the importance of repealing the individual mandate immediately. Shortly after taking office, President Trump issued an executive order which was intended to move the IRS away from enforcing Obamacare’s individual mandate, but now the IRS has found a way around that executive order. According to the official AARP website, the IRS has announced that it will not process any tax returns from individuals that are not willing to disclose whether they currently have health insurance or not…

The Internal Revenue Service won’t process individual tax returns in 2018 unless taxpayers indicate whether they have health insurance coverage or an exemption.

The move, announced last month, reverses course from this year, when the IRS said it would not require filers to indicate on 1040 tax forms whether they had health insurance. Filers were still required to have medical insurance or pay a penalty, but the IRS accepted and processed returns even if taxpayers didn’t indicate coverage status.

So what this means is that you will not get your refund until you tell the IRS if you have health insurance.

And if you don’t have health insurance and you don’t qualify for an exemption, you could be hit with a very painful financial penalty.

Of course purchasing health insurance in some parts of the country is enough of a penalty as it is. For example, I recently wrote about a family of four in Virginia that is now facing the prospect of paying $3,000 a month for health insurance.

Talk about being between a rock and a hard place.

And it also turns out that the IRS is going back and sending threatening letters to those that didn’t indicate if they were covered or not on previous tax returns. Here is more from the AARP

IRS spokesman Bruce Friedland said it followed a review of IRS procedures.

“The IRS has determined that ‎it is more burdensome for taxpayers to allow them to file an incomplete tax return and then have to manage follow-up letters and potentially amend their return,’’ Friedland said. “Identifying omissions and requiring taxpayers to provide health coverage information at the point of filing makes it easier for the taxpayer to successfully file a tax return and minimizes related refund delays.”

In September, the IRS started sending letters to about 130,000 taxpayers who didn’t address the health care requirement on 2014 and 2015 tax returns.

So if you left that section of your tax return blank in previous years, you should be expecting a letter in the mail very soon.

At this point, many of you that are reading this article are probably starting to get very angry. After all, didn’t President Trump sign an executive order earlier this year that was going to end enforcement of the individual mandate?

Unfortunately, that was not the case at all. In fact, Politico is reporting that the Trump administration “is still dutifully enforcing Obamacare’s individual mandate”…

The Trump administration is still dutifully enforcing Obamacare’s individual mandate, despite early signals it might undermine the unpopular linchpin of the health care law.

Weeks after the close of tax season, the IRS continues to process penalties from potentially millions of taxpayers who refused to purchase health insurance last year.

That’s even though hours after taking office on Jan. 20, President Donald Trump issued a vaguely worded executive order instructing federal agencies to waive or defer parts of Obamacare that would “impose a fiscal burden” on states, individuals or health care providers.

    Enough is enough.

Obamacare should have been repealed on the very first day of the Trump administration, but unfortunately the RINOs in Congress are going to keep blocking any effort to do that. Elections really matter, and in 2018 we need to kick out the RINOs and put in new leaders that are fully committed to a 100% repeal of Obamacare.

We also need to do something about the IRS.  They have always been a rogue agency, but now they have gotten completely and totally out of control. I am running for Congress in Idaho’s first congressional district, and I believe that we should completely shut down the IRS.

The status quo is simply not acceptable. Obamacare is financially crippling families all across America, and we should be absolutely disgusted that Congress has not found a solution to this problem even though they have had almost an entire year to get something done.

      1. ??heres therir forms

        • What I cannot figure is why the Republicans are so stupid. The best way to have killed Obama care would have been simply to do nothing, and let it kill itself.

          • Use some of the hardship exemption loopholes as they still exist too to avoid paying the fine.

            • …as a side note I hope obama burns in hell.

              • Menzo, I love how we get on the same page, LOL. That’s what Obola and all the other libturds have coming to them.

                • It sure is, BH

                • i was paying several hundred a month a couple years ago (would be a LOT more now i bet), and finally decided to go to the VA, and they actually are doing a GREAT job on ME. i really haven’t had much of an issue, except for the NINE effen hours i spent in the ER just to get the ball rolling….i went back a few months later at 815AM, and not ONE single person in there…i had gone at 1030 the first time….PLAN your visits, if possible, LOL

        • Guess it’s time to tell the IRS to go pound sand. I wonder how hard it is to get ahold of a legal death certificate and just remove myself from the census.

      2. mmmm? I wonder what would happen if medicare, and medicaid disappeared.

Sounds like a NWO thing to me ?

      3. Health insurance schemes (scams) are a joke. They lump together everyone, the healthy and the sick, and charge them the same for the insurance, give or take a few hundred dollars. Fundamentally, the system should be based on health, not health insurance. This means people who are healthy should be rewarded and encouraged to stay that way, those who are unwell through bad diets and lack of excercise should be penalized and bear the brunt of the costs of the health insurance, and those who are sick through no fault of their own (genetic disorders, accidents, environmental factors etc.) should have their bill picked up by the corporations of America.

This would turn the system around and make it a true health system and one where the incentives are there to stay healthy and not cost the system much. The obese, lazy, and disgusting people should pay the bulk of the costs for insurance.

        • Modern medicine for the most part is a scam. The only things it is really good for is treating traumatic injuries. Everything else is more or else to rake in money for Big Pharma, the insurance companies, and hospital executives.

          • Totally agree (I work in this area). They can do amazing things if you have been shot three times, set on fire and have a leg broken, but they will only harm your health with all their BS drugs and procedures. And the stress from dealing with their bureacracies and high costs will eat away at your mental health, directly destroying your physical health (not to mention being exposed to opportunistic infections in the hospital; even more so now the hospitals are filling up with third world dirt with tropical diseases).

My advice? Stay away from hospitals and doctors as much as possible. Have back pain? They will over-prescribe some opioids for you, getting you hopelessly addicted. They will prescribe a lake of stupid pills with very bad negative side effects for every ailment you can think of. Talk to doctors off work and they will tell you to stay away from them.

      4. This will mainly effect those “good” filers, that do file a return.

Most of the people that don’t , don’t care cause the refund is so small anyway (by paying as little in during the year as possible) , or don’t claim any income.

        .

        • I always thought the IRS is supposed to process tax returns regardless of circumstances.

          • So if you use enough exemptions on your W2 you could end up on the good side of this. Don’t indicate health insurance, you’ve filed and they haven’t processed anything. Sounds like a potential win to me.

      5. Snyder is right about the IRS being a rogue agency and needs to be shut down.

      6. this was their plan from the start… GOTCHAAA!!!

        This obama care is bullshite!!
It is broken!!! It does not work!!

And that IS NOT MY OPINION, that is Blue Cross Blue Shields opinion!

In my area Blue Cross Blue shield IS NOT offering plans in the government plan this year… they say it is not profitable for them to continue.

I would like to know how the government can force me to buy insurance but WILL NOT FORCE INSURANCE COMPANIES TO OFFER INSURANCE!!

The rule should be if Blue Cross Blue Shield will no longer offer a plan within the obama care plan, then they can no longer operate in this area!!

THIS WHOLE THING IS BS!!! AND IF THE IRS DOES NOT WANT TO PROCESS MY TAX FORMS WHEN I DO NOT SIGN UP THEN FINE!!! BUT I WILL BE DAMNED IF I WILL PAY ANY PENALTIES FOR THIS HORSECRAP!!

which is their plan… to make things this unfair… to make me this angry… they are forcing a… what ever happens. It is their plan.

        • Obamacare was designed to collapse the insurance industry. The end result would be putting everybody on Medicare.

They WANT a single payor system.

Then they will have total control. Let the death squads begin.

There was a nice article written by a German woman who lived through the times of the Nazis. She commented that the elderly and infirm were euthanized “for the good of the treasury” because it cost too much to treat them.

      7. Can you imagine if millions did not check the box? The IRS would be so overloaded it would FAIL. I do not pay any tax until the 15th at 1159 pm. Just claim exempt on your W4. They will still get the SS tax but not the federal. Only downside is that you have to have the will power to put away what you think you might need to pay on the 15th over the year.

      8. Tens of millions of Americans can not afford to get sick or pay the outrageous costs if they do get sick. This healthcare system is a bad joke set up to gouge citizens while actually providing little healthcare. Here, take these pills guinea pig.

        • Now you see why people go to mexico for medical treatment.

      9. Read Dave Champions Book entitled, “Income Tax: Shattering the myths”…. MOST AMERICANS NEVER EVEN OWED INCOME TAX. And this penalty is applied at the filing of a Tax Return.

My question is, why don’t people actually care that the Income Tax is an excise tax and never had anything to do with the average american. Read the book… it will tell all about the income tax in excruciating detail…

This whole thing would be a moot point if everyone knew the truth of the income tax!

      10. Simple! There is a big list of exemptions. I qualify for one of them. You do too.

      11. If there’s any way possible people need to just drop health coverage if it’s hurting them financially. I’m fortunately in good health and have coverage. But if my premium takes a huge jump I’ll drop coverage altogether. The IRS claims we have to have health coverage but most of the companies now refuse to provide coverage and they’re not being penalized. Somehow the IRS claims they can penalize individuals but the insurance companies are exempt from providing coverage and being penalized? I challenge them to try to penalize me; that won’t end well for them.

      12. One problem are the twenty somethings who do not have health insurance because they think they wont need it. Then they O.D. on drugs and sent to the hospital. They have no coverage,so guess who pays the bills?

      13. Easy fix, just make sure you never get a refund. I haven’t had a refund since the early 1990’s. I always have to pay. I’ll bet that they will cash my check as usual with great celerity. If I could get a few million people to join me, I would not pay at all. Then lets see what the IRS can do.
I save all year to pay my taxes and I have insurance, but it would be nice to jamb up the IRS so bad that they break.

      14. Really?

I guess America will just have to start claiming maximum W-2 deductions and not filing their fucking taxes when they OWE money at the end of the year.

Molon Labe, asshole’s in the IRS.

      15. Try throwing out the asses running the IRS. They should have been gone after Trump came in. There are too many entrenched in the organization.

      16. I don’t remember there being any question about health insurance on my 2014 or 2015 tax forms. I haven’t gotten any letters either.

I don’t get refunds. That’s giving the government interest-free use of your money.

      17. Archivist, I just checked my 2016 forms and found it in there. But I’ve never gotten any letters either.

      18. Gotta love the AARP. They sold out their customers so they could get Obamacare passed and in order to enrich themselves by selling supplemental policies.

      19. Just another reason to run a zero ledger with the IRS
Or as close to that as you can

Or even better , make it so you owe them at the end of the year

Than tell them , you ain’t getting my money til you fuck off this BS Heath care crap , or not
Just go Galt on the IRS
        Or fake yer death lol
