For avid readers of SHTFplan.com (and we know there are millions thousands of you), you’ll recall that well known financial blogger Mike ‘Mish’ Shedlock strongly disagreed with Peter Schiff’s investment advice and performance back in January of 2009. This lead to a heated battle between Schiff and Shedlock on the internet and even in mainstream media outlets. So, for some, it may be surprising to read Mish’s most recent blog post about Peter Schiff’s run for Congress in 2010.
It’s time to put a stop to this madness. The only way to do that is to throw the bums out. If you want more government intrusion, corporate bailouts, and fascism, then vote for Chris Dodd.
If you want sound money, less government intrusion, and an end to corporate bailouts and fascism, please Support Peter Schiff. It’s as simple as that.
Mish is very clear that he doesn’t necessarily subscribe to some of Mr. Schiff’s theories on economics and investment, but he understands that we need people like Peter Schiff in Congress. Mr. Schiff’s father, Irwin Schiff, is an outspoken libertarian who is currently in prison for tax crimes after losing a battle in United States Tax courts where he argued that tax collection was unconstitutional. While it can be argued that Irwin Schiff was wrong, and obviously the courts didn’t buy it, the fact that Irwin Schiff stood his ground and faced prison rather than surrendering his beliefs is admirable. If nothing else, this is proof positive that Peter Schiff grew up in a household and school of thought unlike most in America, and this may be exactly what this country needs.
Schiff is definitely not your typical red or blue Koolaid drinker, though he is running as a Republican for his Congressional seat against incumbent Chris Dodd, who should be somewhat worried about his job. Schiff worked as an advisor to Ron Paul during the 2008 Presidential election and has a strong grass roots campaign already working for him.
