There is a euphoria being enjoyed by many in the investment world and in economic circles centered around the notion that the world has recovered from the financial crisis of 2008. Stock markets in the United States have risen to all time highs. Mainstream financial experts imply this is a key indicator of economic growth, improved consumer confidence, and a return to boom times.
But not everyone agrees. Swiss market veteran Egon Von Greyerz suggests that exactly the opposite is the case, noting that the underlying economic fundamentals all over the world are indicative of massive problems from the United States to China.
In an interview with King World News Von Greyerz highlights his reasoning, citing numerous data points that paint a completely different picture from the one being shown to the majority of the world’s citizens.
It surprised me to see how many of those top economists and fund managers were totally bullish on the global economy based on their view of growth in the United States.
I also went to a conference for ultra-high net worth individuals in Singapore, and I noticed very little fear or concern about the risks in the world today.
So this is a very dangerous time with the people who control the investment markets having very little regard for the risks and the dangers that the world is currently facing.

We have discussed the massive risks which are present in the system and they are more ubiquitous now than ever — Japan, EU, UK, US, China, and geopolitical risks. The financial system has the same problems today as it had in 2008, but the money printing over the last few years has achieved a calm and complacency that will lead to massive shocks in the world financial system in coming years.

A lot of the economic indicators in the U.S. are very weak. Retail sales are plunging, bank profits are falling, home sales are falling fast, both existing and new homes, and 56 percent of Americans have sub-prime credit today.

Global debt is now around $275 trillion, or 385 percent of world GDP. That’s $38,000 of debt for each and every person in the world. Even the average American is one paycheck from bankruptcy. So how does anyone ever believe that any of this debt could ever be repaid? Well, it won’t be, that’s absolutely guaranteed.
All this will lead to unprecedented money printing and hyperinflation. Thereafter we are likely to see a deflationary collapse of the financial system. We will certainly be looking at a very different world in coming years.

Of course, those headlines were never reported. I went to each earnings report and gathered the info that should have been reported by the CNBC bimbos and hacks. Anything you heard surely had a Wall Street spin attached, like the standard BETTER THAN EXPECTED.
Those are the facts.
Last week well known contrarian economist John Williams made two dire predictions. First, the government’s Q1 economic growth numbers would be revised downward and actually show that the economy shrank for the first three months of the year. This has now been confirmed with official revisions showing negative one percent growth.
Second, Williams predicts that come July 30 the second quarter will verify that the United States has entered another recession, which is officially defined as two consecutive negative growth quarters.
Once these data are released it will confirm what we’ve been warning about for many months – that there is and has been no economic recovery. The U.S. (as well as China and Europe) are about to hit the next wave of this broader depression.
There is, as Williams noted, no way of saving the system at this point, echoing Von Greyerz’s assessment that we will soon be living in an unrecognizable world.
It won’t all happen overnight, but a collapse is all but assured at this point.
Those who have made the effort to get informed and taken steps to prepare for the inevitable calamity that is to come will fare much better than the 99% percent of Americans who will be totally blindsided when life as we have come to know it comes to an abrupt halt.

Manipulating or otherwise cherry picking data to get the result wanted has been done for decades. About two decades ago the Food & Fuel inputs were removed from the CPI (Consumer Price Index) Inflation calculation. As they say “trash in = trash out”.
The economy is faltering now. Just wait until next year. The EPA is FORCING MANY COAL FIRED ELECTRICAL PLANTS TO CLOSE. Homes and businesses will have much higher electricity rates.

These new EPA regulations against coal are a GREAT idea. It means that the power MONOPOLY in your neck of the woods will have to buy alternative energy from the grid: your grid, your energy as they transition to alt energy sources.
Who is the power monopoly? The local power company that has been raising your energy costs every year to line the pockets of their executives. It is the major coal companies and investors like Buffet and his Lionel train network.
I have spoken about the energy REVOLUTION WE are in right now. Solar and wind will be ubiquitous. Several firms will give you solar energy cheaper than your current cost of power from the local power company. Investigate.
If you can add your own solar and wind as part of your preps, adding to it every year, so that you own your energy, it will be the best investment you can make in a world of zero FED fund rates.
Energy storage is around the corner. make it your corner too! Control the means of production. Control the cost of your energy. Engage! 🙂

K2: Try Solar City. They are located in Tempe Arizona but I am sure they have distributors all over the nation. This is part of the new energy revolution that is happening. Panels have increased in efficiency while mass production has lowered the cost.
Several enterprising solar cell makers like Solar City (the largest) have seen the opportunity to install solar on your property for free or at least no upfront cost to you.
Meanwhile they will peddle the excess back to the local power company, while charging you less than retail. The long term fixed costs for solar are set for 20 years, while retail rates increase very year. Check the fine print but there are real savings to be had by the individual property owner, even while solar city makes a profit.
I think federal subsidies in the not too distant future will end, but solar city would not develop a business model where they couldn’t turn a profit. My understanding is that the homeowner can achieve a 12% savings over current electricity costs.
As always, prices and terms may vary but it is worth a look. Read the fine print. With new energy storage solutions evolving as we speak, there will be a place for wholesalers, and savings for homeowners.
In every crisis there is opportunity. The threat (crisis) is to the local power monopoly. The benefit (opportunity) is to the end user.
Make change work for you. This development is not about the Carbon Exchanges originally proposed by O’Bummer. This is a true energy revolution. Embrace it.:-)

Imagine the health cost savings and elimination of “black lung disease” among former miners.
Aggregate GDP will rise or mitigate these losses as these installations employ tens if not hundreds of thousands of jobs. Engineers, wood workers, garment workers, chemical workers and the employees of a host of industries had to adapt to off shoring.
Why not miners to solar energy?
Clean energy is good for everyone except big coal, big power, and big investors. The more control that Americans have over their energy sources and costs, the more independent they become. These changes are to be implemented over a long time frame. These miners would be replaced by robotic machines anyway, which are safer and more efficient.
Solar and wind can do for the single family homeowner, what the Internet did for democracy. Anything that empowers the [people is a good thing. Embrace it Adapt! 🙂

Solar, wind, and tidal. Imagine water turbines in the Yellow River; or along the coast. Wind turbines in North and Western China or from sea breezes in the South.

Solar is only practical in about one fifth of the country. The Southwest and California South of Sacramento. As for wind it is a waste. DK likes to think he is smart but he is anything but. Just like the so called miracle of ethanol which actually takes more energy to make than it delivers and results in burning food. The only real breakthrough that will matter will be some kind of safe fusion either cold or regular. Natural gas will be the best solution as long as it is available.
John W; Natural gas is a good interim energy solution as are others (not ethanol). It only takes a square about fifty miles wide in the Southwest to power the energy needs of the entire United States at current solar panel efficiency ratios.
Wind blows all the time everywhere. Energy storage has been the problem for solar and wind. That problem has been eliminated now and new factories are under construction to build CHEAP capacitors using common elements.

I am now feeding my chickens corn that I sealed in buckets from 2009. Grind it with a corn grinder I bought. They eat it and give me eggs 🙂
The price of that corn has doubled since 2009. If five gallon buckets seem to be too large for storing rice, beans, corn, elbow macaroni,,,,,consider using one gallon mylar bags and oxygen inhibitors.
Also note: Cheese packets from mac & cheese, and spice packets from beans will go bad over time, so don’t waste your mylar on those.

This whole situation, at least where I live, is somewhat surreal. I always hear how people are losing their jobs, careers, and/or businesses, but rarely see it myself. Is it the news? Is it the editing? Is it the politics?
I have this feeling of dread that we are about to hit bottom, but most things around me tell me otherwise. I see TV house buying shows where the people cannot wait to spend their max budgets. Why?!?! I see people at the shops and car dealers doing the same. I don’t get it and probably never will.
So many are trying to be entertained and playing “keep up with the Joneses” that it saddens me. If you don’t keep up with them, there must be something wrong? Anyone understand that attitude? My brother once told me that most people never really get out of the “high school” mindset. They just age physically. I fear he is right.
What we are seeing today, both in real life and in the MSM isn’t how things are really shaping up. It sure is a damn shame that the people have been turned into “sheeple” by design. When the SHTF comes along, the sheeple will vote us all into servitude whether it is legal or not.

Just a little heads up. My best buds was diagnosed with both hairy cell and lymphatic leukemia plus non Hodgkins lymphoma. His chemo put them all in remission quite easily. Hopefully you will have the same results although hairy cell generally comes back after a period of time. Leukemia is actually one of the more treatable cancers to have. Good luck to you.

Gardening like crazy. Seems like we won’t get peaches this year after the winter that wouldn’t quit. Here’s for hoping the beans do well.
Ate our last quart of peaches last month and figured we wouldnt get any this year.
Same w/ apricots but theyre iffy anyway. Strawberries and rhubarb are ripe now and going strong. We take what we get and put it to good use. The wife put up more than a dozen pints of strawberry jam already and theres enough left still to ripen for more jam and frozen berries put up in Foodsaver bags. Tomorrow its rhubarb butter for our biscuits and toast. She cans that in half pints. If someone don’t know, rhubarb butter is like applebutter, at least to us it is (not as dark). Elderberries and the blackberries are growing and well get enough elderberries for jam and some syrup if the birds dont get em first.
Got most of the summer garden in now. Growing a few tomatoes just to keep the seeds going. Got the first planting of beans in. Growing some beans just to dry for seed for next year. Flowers are all blooming now and lasting longer than normal prob. from cooler temps. Went crazy w/ the basil this year and grew a dozen plants. Well make pesto butter balls to freeze for winter use.
Lots of yard sales in these parts. Better to buy direct than pay full price at a store. Seems to me we might keep the money w/ the people and helps drag down the gdp a little more to jump start this propped up mess.
I will tell you folks, if you think stockpiling seeds and thinking you will all the sudden start growing a garden, you will be in shock, and most likely starve. A garden is just one more layer of your food production. This year, I built 2 raised gardens, bought cow poop soil, mixed it in, and enclosed them with chicken wire, even on the top so birds stay out. Well the cucumbers and tomatoes are growing strong, Zero pepper plants from the seeds I planted. Not sure what happened there. Broccoli about 10 Inches tall, So far radishes thin as a toothpick after 2 months, and peas, grew to 2 ft tall and for some reason the bottoms are wilting. Beans are looking good and now flowering. I water everything daily. The watermelon plants grew to 6 inches tall and stopped growing in the pods, and the onions and carrots look weak, but I will be patient. I also planted potatoes and they appear to be going strong. Looks like I made a mistake and planted some tomato plants within a chicken wire barrier, and the bees must be afraid to go through the chicken wire to pollinate the flowers cause the plants are 3+ feet tall, bloomed, and not a single tomatoes is growing whatsoever on those plants inside the wire. Outside the enclosed chicken wire they are free growing they are doing great. No animal critter seem to be attacking them, so I will from now on always plat tomatoes plants in the open. So it is good this year, I may have made some mistakes, and will be more productive next year, of what grows and what does not and how and where to plant what vegetable. You need all the tools, like a shovel, rake, hoe, water hose, string and stakes, and start building up your compost pile. And always good to tend to your garden and pull weeds. It does not look like I have any bug problems at all. That’s pretty good for Florida. My 100 Pineapple plants do well every year and are ripe in late July- Aug. Good to make the mistakes now under reasonable conditions, and not in an all out SHTF Situation. Every day work on your preps folks.
You’re exactly right. Not everyone can throw in some seeds and poof, out come veggies. Did you start your peppers in dirt or some kind of starting soil. Try regular dirt, they will not germinate in peat moss. Peppers take a long time to germinate, up to 4 months, and like warm temps.
Also, if certain plants aren’t doing well, check what is growing next to them. Download a companion planting chart and check it out.

Peppers are very difficult to grow from seed. Unlike tomatoes that grow like weeds peppers are very picky and then slow to gain size. Do not let small plants set fruit. Snip them off and wait until the plant gets large.

Oh please how do you make Rhubarb Butter? I have a ton of Rhubarb this year and that sounds like a really good idea and a little different. Thanks in advance.

Rhubarb Butter
6 cups of rhubarb chunks, cut in 1 inch pieces
1/2 cup water
2-3 cups sugar (depends on your taste)
1-2 teaspoons cinnamon, ground
Gather up the rhubarb stalks and cut them into 1 inch pieces and toss into a stainless pot or large pan. Add water. Cover and cook very slowly until rhubarb is very soft. (Like apple butter, this could be cooked in a crock pot.)
Once the rhubarb chunks are soft, mash the rhubarb to a spreadable consistency. If you want, you can process in a food mill. We just use a potato masher.
Once you have a puree, add in sugar and cinnamon. Stir well. Now cook the rhubarb mixture until the water begins to evaporate and the mixture thickens. Cook to the consistency you would like (for us, we like it nice and thick).
If you want to preserve your rhubarb butter, ladle it into prepared jars. We use half pints and get about 4 half pints per batch. Follow the standard directions for water bath canning and process half pints for 10 minutes.
Hope you like it as much as we do. We just finished making ours and the house smells good. This job sure beats going into work.

The whole world is built on a debt bubble – we (Aussie too) borrowed to fund our lifestyle thinking the economic growth would never end. “Growth” is dependent on the consumer buying “stuff” – take away the money to buy the “stuff” and the economy hits the skids. Both our countries cant keep up the level of welfare – but if we cut it back TPTB will get voted out. That wont happen because a politicians only concern is getting re-elected and to hell with the consequences.

Medicare denied in home care to my grandparents who are in their nineties. All they wanted was a little help each day getting dressed and cooking meals and running errands. Grandma can walk but is a fall risk and grandpa can’t walk and is almost deaf and can’t see much. The cuts are starting. And they are cutting where it hurts most.

I planted a row of Homestead tomato plants yesterday. They are determinate, meaning they should have a lot of tomatoes all at once. My wife wants to can tomatoes since we use so many.
Sadly I had to leave NE NC 2 yrs ago. Chowan, Camden, Pasquotank counties have superb farm land, and something those out west sure wish they had: plenty of water/rain.

The biggest issue in my mind is the dollar’s loss of reserve currency status. Obama is forcing Russia to find ways to trade outside the dollar. They’re working with China and the other BRICS do just that. Also, Russia is working on energy agreements with NATO members like Germany to have payments in euros instead of dollars. When the rest of the world abandons the dollar, trillions of dollars will hit the US economy. Jim Willie expects a couple of 35% dollar devaluations to occur. Other people like John Williams expect the dollar to go to zero. I expect that too due to all the money printing by the Fed.
John Williams also predicts panic selling of the dollar by the end of the second quarter of 2014, meaning by June 30th. He originally predicted hyperinflation by the end of this decade but kept moving his prediction closer. Even if panic selling of the dollar doesn’t start by June 30th I still think that the amount of time we have left is very short.

If “it” is a slowish meltdown there are some who will see the end game with clarity and who might belatedly start preparing and who may still prove useful after the reset. But if it goes belly up in a big hurry no one – I repeat NO ONE will be getting or taking anything from me, my 2 kids and one grandkid and reducing our chances of survival. The problem I have when I try to talk to my friends about having “a little extra” is that they say they will just come to my house… I tell them not to bother because I only have enough for my family for a couple of weeks.
Why the hell would I feed their families when I have been stocking for years and planting fruit trees and gardening while they have been off taking vacations to Hawaii and everywhere else across the nation. Fuck em. I hope I won’t have to tell them that one day.

True story—Half of my blood relatives are worse than the damn zombies. I’ve got a brother who is a thief, a drugged-up felon who thinks it’s okay to take whatever he wants, by force if necessary. I hold no illusions about that fact. I have no doubts that he’d come for me if he could.
He is the reason why not one of my family knows where I am, and haven’t for years. I have literally disowned them. I’ve come to realize that I’m much safer on my own.
Imagine me mottling my way clear of a sea of zombies, only to be strong-armed by my own brother…it ain’t gonna happen. I keep track of “bro” so I know whether he’s in prison or out on the loose, but I never try to contact him.
Maybe that’s why I like it here on SHTF. You guys are closer to “family” than mine ever has been. But don’t feel bad for me—this has made me harder and more determined, and because of that, I’ll have a good shot at making it out the other side.

Here in FL house sales have increased a little, still a lot of forclosures, unemployment is around 6.3% fast food and other service related positions are the norm. Employers know they are in control and lord it over you. People are becoming more and more rude, especially when driving, prices keep going up, tomorrow the third, prices will be up at 3%, it just keeps going, going, going . . . .
I think that after the elections this year if the republicans manage to get elected(by design) all bets are off and QE will be stopped and it will all come crashing down.

Worked 3-11 on 05/31/14 most of the bars in town had less than two or three cars there. I was told business was down over 40%. The restaurant my wife works at part time said carry outs are down 50% and business is off around 25%. Things are a lot worse than we think. I guess that is why we are preppers!

I too am tired of waiting for the collapse but we do know it’s coming. So….what we have been doing is gathering as many supplies as we can afford with the time we have left. Our garden is small since we are urban city dwellers but we do have something. Yes, silver is being mashed down so now is the time to unload those worthless FIAT dollars and get real, tangible money. I can afford little these days but I did manage to acquire five ounces of silver yesterday.
I just got back from a trip to the local shopping mall and saw very little traffic. Many of the stores here have gone out of business but the restaurants are booming. Our daughter works at a nearby restaurant and people cannot wait to get in in the mornings and pile up outside the doors before opening time. It makes no sense to me but it is what it is. Keep prepping as much as possible while there is still time.

I’m just sitting here watching the birds and squirrels in my back yard waiting for the chicken to be done in the oven…and you know what? Life is good! It really is! The news sucks now more than ever but life is beautiful as I watch the evening sunshine shine through my maple leaves. It’s surreal the glowing light through the leaves, bright and clean. The wind breezes through them and makes that soft, low shuffling sound while the birds sing their last for the evening while pecking out their last meal.
Chicken recipe:
1 cut up chicken
4TB butter
3 cloves of garlic sliced or crushed
1 can of chicken broth or 16 oz. of homemade broth
salt/pepper
sprinkle of oregano (fresh from your garden or dried)
Place chicken in pan with garlic under it. Drizzle with butter, oregano and salt/pepper. Bake at 450 degrees for 25 minutes. Add broth and turn down oven to 300 degrees and bake for another 30minutes. Use broth from fresh baked chicken to make rice. (replace water for rice with chicken broth). Simple and delicious.
Side note: Make sure to have a “cold one” (your choice, I like beer) while waiting.
