I personally didn’t see a smirk. I saw a very nervous smile by a teen that an adult had invaded his personal space after the people that adult was with yelled threatening insults like “go back to Europe”. This man was armed, the teen had no way of knowing it the next swing of the drumstick might not hit him in the head. Still he stood his ground as he had every right to do, against a grown man, threatening him, who’s permit had expired and was supposed to be gone.
Phillips showed himself a coward, to threaten kids, rather than confront the Black shouting insults, and he knew he wouldn’t walk away from that confrontation.
All in all pathetic.
When I was a young man, I stopped to help an elderly black lady who was having car trouble. Within minutes of fixing it, a black guy also saw her having trouble, and stopped to help. He made me nervous and he had done absolutely nothing wrong. He was just like me. So after fixing the problem, I got in my car and said a quick prayer apologizing to GOD for acting that way.
The very next morning, I had car trouble, and guess who stopped to help me? The same black guy. I felt so awful and grateful at the same time. Afterwards, I said another short prayer to GOD promising I would never make such an error again. I learned my lesson.
