A few weeks ago the Congressional Budget Office, which is responsible for the accounting and reporting associated with federal legislation and regulations, estimated that the Affordable Care Act would raise national budget deficits by $1 trillion and lead to the destruction of some 2.5 million jobs.
But the new health insurance mandates and the pressure they will put on America’s businesses aren’t the only challenges facing an already dwindling labor force.
Earlier this month President Obama raised the minimum wage for federal workers through an Executive Orders that will take effect on January 1, 2015. He promised to push through a similar mandate for the private sector. However, just because minimum wage workers in America will see a roughly $3 increase in their hourly pay doesn’t necessarily mean that they’ll be better off than today.
According to the CBO, the wage hike is going to do exactly the opposite of its intended purpose. Not only can we expect businesses to almost immediately raise prices on the goods and services they offer in order to offset the wage hikes, but it will end up costing the American economy even more jobs in the long run.
Once fully implemented in the second half of 2016, the $10.10 option would reduce total employment by about 500,000 workers, or 0.3 percent, CBO projects. As with any such estimates, however, the actual losses could be smaller or larger; in CBO’s assessment, there is about a two-thirds chance that the effect would be in the range between a very slight reduction in employment and a reduction in employment of 1.0 million workers.

It’s not just about the job losses, however. The report also discusses how the wage increase itself will put many Americans who are currently making $7.25 an hour above the federal poverty threshold. This sounds great on paper, but given that prices for just about everything will inevitably rise, those people will be paying more for essential goods and services. Moreover, anyone whose income jumps above that poverty threshold will likely lose many of the government benefits they receive for being below the poverty line. They’ll see their health care costs go up because they will be making more money and they’ll also lose full or partial access to food stamps, rental assistance and other social services.
Increasing the minimum wage would have two principal effects on low-wage workers. Most of them would receive higher pay that would increase their family’s income, and some of those families would see their income rise above the federal poverty threshold.
But some jobs for low-wage workers would probably be eliminated, the income of most workers who became jobless would fall substantially, and the share of low-wage workers who were employed would probably fall slightly.
While a recent poll suggests that the majority of Americans support a minimum wage hike, they more than likely haven’t gotten the whole story. In fact, the Obama administration’s response to the CBO’s report was to totally downplay the warnings.
In a blog post at WhiteHouse.gov, the White House Council of Economic Advisers cited Seven Nobel Prize Winners, eight former Presidents of the American Economic Association and over 600 other economists to support their claims that the wage hike would actually result in more job creation. They base this assessment on new “academic literature” which suggests that there will be no negative impact and that there will probably no job losses at all:
The bulk of academic studies, have concluded that the effects on employment of minimum wage increases in the range now under consideration are likely to be small to nonexistent.
While most people would love to believe that simply forcing employers to pay people more money will fix the problem and increase the wealth of individual Americans, it’s notable that White House economic advisers and experts promoted the economic benefits of the Affordable Care Act in similar fashion.
The American people were told that they could keep their existing health care plans, that their rates would go down, and that all of their medical needs, including pre-existing conditions and specialty drug requirements, would be met.
Just months after the launch of the so-called Obamacare initiative, however, Americans are beginning to see the big picture. Rates have tripled, insurance plans for millions have been cancelled, children dependent on life saving care no longer have coverage for their pre-existing conditions, and the system itself may well detonate due to unmanageable costs before year’s end.
The same experts who told Americans that the Affordable Care Act would improve economic conditions and health care are now citing the very same economic panels to convince us that a wage increase will be beneficial to economic progress and income equality.

One way or another, if you are a taxpayer, you are going to pay. There is no free lunch because there is no profit in “FREE” unless of course you are talking about FREE TRADE, and that profit goes right to the bottom line of the One Percent and their offshore accounts.

Better yet, just print up the money to pay for it and have the Fed buy the debt and hold it to infinity.
That’s why this whole issue is theater designed to distract people from the fact that the nation is totally dependent on debt and credit to function.
Only when the U.S. dollar loses reserve currency status will this change.
That could take many years given that the dollar is backed by the U.S. military and an arsenal of threats.
It will happen eventually though, but I doubt I’ll live to see it.

Russian Ships Carrying Soldiers Said To Be En Route To Sevastopol
“Those tracking the developments in the Ukraine, and specifically the Russian response to this weekend’s coup, will be interested to note that according to the Russian flot.com website, the large landing ship Nikolai Filchenkov, previously known for its participation in the Syrian naval arms build up, is expected to arrive in the Crimean port of Sevastopol carrying 200 armed soldiers, sent from the nearby Black Sea town of Temryuk.”
“This appears to not be an isolated move as the naval build up seems to be escalating. In a concurrent release, Izvestia Kiev reported that out of Kubinka, four ships carrying special forces, are being relocated to Anapa. From there, in four hours, they will depart fo Sevastopol at a speed of 10-15 knots, citing “Izvestia in Ukraine” as a source. According to the source, the redeployment is “qualitative, not quantitative” and that the Ukraine is following these developments.”

@ eppe. I think you’re right, there is no good outlook for this. Even if Ukraine broke into two countries, east and west, it would leave Russia without those Carpathian mountain ranges to help safeguard its western borders to invasion. Ukraine must stay Russian friendly and never try to join NATO. In all fairness, the U.S. would be in the same position if Mexico or Canada fell to China or Russia. The Rocky mountains helps protect the interior and eastern sections of the U.S. from an invasion from the west.
I was listening to all this rhetoric how it is the duty of the U.S. to go and defend Ukraine and not let what happened to Georgia happen to the Ukraine. These people just think that Russia is ready to surrender their country and will back down. A country that is capable of destroying the U.S. many times over, or with just one properly placed EMP nuke send most electronics into the scrap heap. I wish that some of these news sites would use a bit of common sense. Of course that is why they call it the MSM, mass idiocy. I should be ashamed of myself for watching it. By the way the Carpathians are only about 500 miles long, but that is 500 miles that Russia does not have to beef up their defenses like they do on flat ground. Even with all the modern technology, the topography of the land and sea still plays an imortant role in war and geopolitics. If I see anything else I will try to post it. No one is going to invade Russia. The US Army and the rest od the defense is going to be drastically cut. There are only two divisions combat ready. We would be lucky to resist the new National Police force that will be appearing next year.
@ eppe. I was looking at Russia and saying to myself where is Russia vulnerable to a NATO invasion. Finland never joined NATO for the reason that this would immediately provoke Russia. Estonia borders Russia with mostly swamps and two large lakes that is not accessable with any type of heavy military. Lativa has about a 100 mile border that is a problem, but knows that allowing a NATO invading force from the Baltic Sea would mean the frying of the entire country. Like Estonia, difficult to get heavy armed forces into the country.
A small point of entry from Poland through Lithuania would be met with massive Russian forces at Kaliningrad, a Russian enclave that has been beefed up in the past few years with an enormous amount of missiles and other military hardware. Belarus is completely pro Russia. So an invasion through Poland would have to come through the northwest section of the Ukraine. Yes the country that Russia must never allow to fall to the west.
Looking down at an invasion through the Black Sea region you see again, Ukraine. Also though Georgia, that Russia invaded 6 years ago and took care of in hours. NATO forces through Turkey would have to get rhrough Georgia to get to Russia. The Caucasus mountain range protects Russia through Armenia or Azerbaijan. Only other invasion route to Russia from the south is Iran which is buddy, buddy with Russia. Any invasion through Afghanistan area would have to go through some of the tallest mountains around.
Russia has protected itself and to lose the Ukraine would open itself to being attacked from a land invasion from the west, the Black Sea, and on top of this lose the military jumping off points of the Black Sea for their navy. The Black Sea is really the ONLY warm water port to the outside oceans that it has. The Caspian Sea is of course land locked. Ukraine also is one of the points at which natural gas goes to Europe.
This is why Russia would HAVE to send troops into the Ukraine before allowing it to go the west. Russia would have to take over the country and make it part of the CIS or whatever they call it now to guarantee its own future as a nation. This is how incredibly stupid it is for any of these butthead newscasters or members of congress to even suggest that the west should defend the Ukraine against Russia. Interesting isn’t it?
@ John W. It is not whether someone is actually going to be invaded or not, it is the legitimate fear that it is going to happen. Russia has been invaded many times and fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. If the U.S. was not so a threat to Russia then why does the U.S. maintain such a massive military presence in Europe? Look at all the air bases that the U.S. has that encircle Russia and China. Those military cutbacks are only 10-20%. The U.S. still will retain a huge attack drone force for example that is much cheaper to operate than living people.
A country can still be destroyed such as Russia through being boxed in militarily and economically. The Ukraine is an essential breadbasket of food, natural resources especially minerals, and is a point in which much commerce is shipped to European countries from Russia. Besides all this, the Black Sea. This is why U.S. backed Georgia with over a billion dollars in U.S. military was destroyed in hours 6 years ago. Russia is paranoid for good reasons. Just look at how the U.S. is meddling in the China and Japan dispute over those natural gas and oil rich islands. It is all geopolitical for Russia.

No one had a problem when the low skilled manufacturing labor was GOOFed, hell you could get a good deal on a toaster from Walmart. Now that GOOF has moved up the food chain, unemployed highly educated white collar professionals are now having to shop at Walmart. How’s that good deal on a toaster look now, how’s that new education in learning how to live like the people who’s life you were willing to ruin for a good deal on a toaster. What I am about to tell you is something you’ve probably never heard or will ever read in history books.
I believe that I am an eyewitness to history. I cannot tell you that Hitler took Austria by tanks and guns; it would distort history. We elected him by a landslide – 98% of the vote. I’ve never read that in any American publications. Everyone thinks that Hitler just rolled in with his tanks and took Austria by force.
In 1938, Austria was in deep Depression. Nearly one-third of our workforce was unemployed. We had 25% inflation and 25% bank loan interest rates.
Farmers and business people were declaring bankruptcy daily. Young people were going from house to house begging for food. Not that they didn’t want to work; there simply weren’t any jobs. My mother was a Christian woman and believed in helping people in need. Every day we cooked a big kettle of soup and baked bread to feed those poor, hungry people – about 30 daily.
The Communist Party and the National Socialist Party were fighting each other. Blocks and blocks of cities like Vienna, Linz, and Graz were destroyed. The people became desperate and petitioned the government to let them decide what kind of government they wanted.
We looked to our neighbor on the north, Germany, where Hitler had been in power since 1933. We had been told that they didn’t have unemployment or crime, and they had a high standard of living. Nothing was ever said about persecution of any group — Jewish or otherwise.
We were led to believe that everyone was happy. We wanted the same way of life in Austria. We were promised that a vote for Hitler would mean the end of unemployment and help for the family. Hitler also said that businesses would be assisted, and farmers would get their farms back. Ninety-eight percent of the population voted to annex Austria to Germany and have Hitler for our ruler.
We were overjoyed, and for three days we danced in the streets and had candlelight parades. The new government opened up big field kitchens and everyone was fed.
After the election, German officials were appointed, and like a miracle, we suddenly had law and order. Three or four weeks later, everyone was employed. The government made sure that a lot of work was created through the Public Work Service.
Hitler decided we should have equal rights for women. Before this, it was a custom that married Austrian women did not work outside the home. An able-bodied husband would be looked down on if he couldn’t support his family. Many women in the teaching profession were elated that they could retain the jobs they previously had been required to give up for marriage.
Hitler Targets Education – Eliminates Religious Instruction for Children:
Our education was nationalized. I attended a very good public school. The population was predominantly Catholic, so we had religion in our schools. The day we elected Hitler (March 13, 1938), I walked into my schoolroom to find the crucifix replaced by Hitler’s picture hanging next to a Nazi flag. Our teacher, a very devout woman, stood up and told the class we wouldn’t pray or have religion anymore. Instead, we sang Deutschland, Deutschland, Uber Alles, and had physical education.
Sunday became National Youth Day with compulsory attendance. Parents were not pleased about the sudden change in curriculum. They were told that if they did not send us, they would receive a stiff letter of warning the first time. The second time they would be fined the equivalent of $300, and the third time they would be subject to jail.
The first two hours consisted of political indoctrination. The rest of the day we had sports. As time went along, we loved it. Oh, we had so much fun and got our sports equipment free. We would go home and gleefully tell our parents about the wonderful time we had.
My mother was very unhappy. When the next term started, she took me out of public school and put me in a convent. I told her she couldn’t do that and she told me that someday when I grew up, I would be grateful. There was a very good curriculum, but hardly any fun – no sports, and no political indoctrination. I hated it at first but felt I could tolerate it.
Every once in a while, on holidays, I went home. I would go back to my old friends and ask what was going on and what they were doing. Their loose lifestyle was very alarming to me. They lived without religion. By that time unwed mothers were glorified for having a baby for Hitler. It seemed strange to me that our society changed so suddenly. As time went along, I realized what a great deed my mother did so that I wasn’t exposed to that kind of humanistic philosophy.
Equal Rights Hits Home:
In 1939, the war started and a food bank was established. All food was rationed and could only be purchased using food stamps. At the same time, a full-employment law was passed which meant if you didn’t work, you didn’t get a ration card, and if you didn’t have a card, you starved to death. Women who stayed home to raise their families didn’t have any marketable skills and often had to take jobs more suited for men.
Soon after this, the draft was implemented. It was compulsory for young people, male and female, to give one year to the labor corps. During the day, the girls worked on the farms, and at night they returned to their barracks for military training just like the boys. They were trained to be anti-aircraft gunners and participated in the signal corps. After the labor corps, they were not discharged but were used in the front lines.
When I go back to Austria to visit my family and friends, most of these women are emotional cripples because they just were not equipped to handle the horrors of combat. Three months before I turned 18, I was severely injured in an air raid attack. I nearly had a leg amputated, so I was spared having to go into the labor corps and into military service.
Hitler Restructured the Family Through Daycare:
When the mothers had to go out into the work force, the government immediately established child care centers. You could take your children ages 4 weeks to school age and leave them there around-the-clock, 7 days a week, under the total care of the government.
The state raised a whole generation of children. There were no motherly women to take care of the children, just people highly trained in child psychology. By this time, no one talked about equal rights. We knew we had been had.
Health Care and Small Business Suffer Under Government Controls:
Before Hitler, we had very good medical care. Many American doctors trained at the University of Vienna. After Hitler, health care was socialized, free for everyone. Doctors were salaried by the government. The problem was, since it was free, the people were going to the doctors for everything. When the good doctor arrived at his office at 8 a.m., 40 people were already waiting and, at the same time, the hospitals were full.
If you needed elective surgery, you had to wait a year or two for your turn. There was no money for research as it was poured into socialized medicine. Research at the medical schools literally stopped, so the best doctors left Austria and emigrated to other countries.
As for healthcare, our tax rates went up to 80% of our income. Newlyweds immediately received a $1,000 loan from the government to establish a household. We had big programs for families. All day care and education were free. High schools were taken over by the government and college tuition was subsidized. Everyone was entitled to free handouts, such as food stamps, clothing, and housing.
We had another agency designed to monitor business. My brother-in-law owned a restaurant that had square tables. Government officials told him he had to replace them with round tables because people might bump themselves on the corners. Then they said he had to have additional bathroom facilities. It was just a small dairy business with a snack bar. He couldn’t meet all the demands. Soon, he went out of business. If the government owned the large businesses and not many small ones existed, it could be in control.
We had consumer protection. We were told how to shop and what to buy. Free enterprise was essentially abolished. We had a planning agency specially designed for farmers. The agents would go to the farms, count the live-stock, then tell the farmers what to produce, and how to produce it.
Mercy Killings, Redefined:
In 1944, I was a student teacher in a small village in the Alps . The villagers were surrounded by mountain passes which, in the winter, were closed off with snow, causing people to be isolated. So people intermarried and offspring were sometimes retarded. When I arrived, I was told there were 15 mentally retarded adults, but they were all useful and did good manual work. I knew one, named Vincent, very well. He was a janitor of the school. One day I looked out the window and saw Vincent and others getting into a van. I asked my superior where they were going. She said to an institution where the State Health Department would teach them a trade, and to read and write. The families were required to sign papers with a little clause that they could not visit for 6 months. They were told visits would interfere with the program and might cause homesickness.
As time passed, letters started to dribble back saying these people died a natural, merciful death. The villagers were not fooled. We suspected what was happening. Those people left in excellent physical health and all died within 6 months. We called this euthanasia.
The Final Steps – Gun Laws:
Next came gun registration. People were getting injured by guns. Hitler said that the real way to catch criminals (we still had a few) was by matching serial numbers on guns. Most citizens were law abiding and dutifully marched to the police station to register their firearms. Not long after-wards, the police said that it was best for everyone to turn in their guns. The authorities already knew who had them, so it was futile not to comply voluntarily.
No more freedom of speech. Anyone who said something against the government was taken away. We knew many people who were arrested, not only Jews, but also priests and ministers who spoke up.
Totalitarianism didn’t come quickly, it took 5 years from 1938 until 1943, to realize full dictatorship in Austria . Had it happened overnight, my countrymen would have fought to the last breath. Instead, we had creeping gradualism. Now, our only weapons were broom handles. The whole idea sounds almost unbelievable that the state, little by little eroded our freedom.
After World War II, Russian troops occupied Austria. Women were raped, preteen to elderly. The press never wrote about this either. When the Soviets left in 1955, they took everything that they could, dismantling whole factories in the process. They sawed down whole orchards of fruit, and what they couldn’t destroy, they burned. We called it The Burned Earth.
Most of the population barricaded themselves in their houses. Women hid in their cellars for 6 weeks as the troops mobilized. Those who couldn’t, paid the price. There is a monument in Vienna today, dedicated to those women who were massacred by the Russians. This is an eye witness account.
It’s true… Those of us who sailed past the Statue of Liberty came to a country of unbelievable freedom and opportunity.

That’s a furby you are seeing down under. If you listen closely during interviews you can hear it prattling away.
Minimum wage is absolutely not supposed to support a household. It is supposed to be the workforce baseline of skill and/or production. With experience and time, one’s skills/production increases as does their wage. If an employee’s skill or production doesn’t increase, they are typically stagnant and or let go.
The problem with those who automatically agree with raising the minimum wage, especially at an increase of near 50%, (7 something to over 10) is that they never tell you how the employers out there will come up with those funds to cover it. Employers will either let go of employees, raise prices, or close down.
It is suspicious that the president spoke as he did about the minimum wage but then only had it affect the Federal employees; and a sliver of them at that, (contract employees). He makes my above point by only doing this for a very small portion of the workforce.
And one last perspective, I don’t look at any minimum wage as simply a raise. I see it as my current wages that I have worked, scratched/clawed, sacrificed, and sweated for as losing that much more value against the minimum baseline of talent/production.
Maybe he’s just trying to secure LOYALTY, to make sure when he hands them contractors their rifles and kevlar, that they’ll perform as expected.

2. These are the only people he can raise the pay rate for without congressional legislation. And we all know that isn’t happening. In addition, it can only apply to new contracts so it’s going to take a while for it to fully kick in.
3. The minimum wage would be about $10.68/hr today if it had kept pace with inflation. It would be greater than $20/hr if it had kept pace with productivity gains.
4. If you want economic stimulus and an increase in aggregate demand these are exactly the people who you want to have more money. They are so far below the ‘marginal propensity to save’ line that they are guaranteed to spend every additional dollar they receive. And well all (should) know that every dollar spent in the economy has a multiplier effect.
The only minimum wage people on the Federal payroll are non-appropriated funds people. Everyone else makes well over minimum.

Every time I hear about some politician going on about the working class needs help, I get sick to my stomach. The politicians are causing the problems. Here I’m going to take 10% of your total net worth and income this year from a stealth tax (inflation) but I’ll give you a few extra dollars to make up the difference.

This is one of the reasons that Puerto Rico has had such a difficult time to statehood, two of the most radical liberal new senators added to the 100 to make it 102 if PR became the 51st state. Also adding PR would mean that the House of Representatives would have 7 of the most liberal new members until the new census would divide everything back down to 435. Puerto Rico is the same size as Oklahoma that also has 7. It would also mean 7 more electoral votes in the column of the Democratic president, almost as sure as the 3 from DC. Guam and the Virgin Islands are too small for states as the population from the Virgin Islands is 1/5 of Wyoming the least populated state.
It’s not six states, it’s six sub-states within the state with each sub-state having it’s own governance. It’s just another way of creating another layer of taxation. I would bet that none of the California State taxes would go away but each sub-state would need revenue and it would have to come from it’s constituency. Sort of like a city and county tax.

I did it by applying myself and not listening to the ‘experts’ that said I’d never go anywhere without college. My absolute minimum wage is $55 per hour. And that’s salary, too, not a contract. If I can do it, why the hell can’t anybody else? I’m no rocket scientist — wtf?!

I realize this is only for government workers. However people get all starry-eyed when they hear the minimum wage is going up, as if that will create more customers to pay for it. Retailers who are already on the edge will have to actually cut employees’ hours, resulting in either the same take-home pay or even less; or in rare cases the employee will receive more or the same money for working fewer hours, but to compensate for this the employer will now have to work longer hours for less money. Prices will also rise to pay for the increase in the minimum wage. Low wages and low prices go together; high wages and high prices go together – nothing else works. You can’t pay out more while taking in less or the same amount of money and still keep your head above water. I was in retail years ago and the rise in the minimum wage was one reason I sold my shop. Wow, $3 per hour is a huge increase to have to pay out, this will be a disaster for small retailers like I was.

Living at minimum wage does suck, I’ll grant you that, but it is possible with hard work, diligence, the right attitude, etc. to move up from it and cut your own niche. Your life is what YOU make it, not someone else.

You obviously never took economics. I’ve experienced 30 years of”union” labor. Every time I received a raise,prices went up to the consumer and hours went down for the workers. More work was piled on to make up for the wage increase. We tread water for all those years,we never really got ahead at all and retirement doesn’t come close to dealing with present inflation nor does Social Security. That is what will happen to those that will get a 3 dollar raise. People will buy less and in trun workers will earn less and pay more taxes. Lose lose for everybody. Where did the govt. get the expertise to determine who should get a raise? The market should determine it not some idiot in Washington who has no idea what they are doing.

In the late 1970s labor was blamed for inflation while the true culprit was the over creation fiat currency (both actual post 1971 and and “in effect” pre 1971 when the gold standard was not truly followed in substance).
If the minimum wage stays the same prices are still going to rise significantly.

The only way to get a healthy big increase in wages is when there are far more jobs than workers. Leave it to Robin Williams to come up with the perfect plan … what we need now is for our UN Ambassador to stand up and repeat this message.
I see a lot of people yelling for peace but I have not heard of a plan for peace. So, here’s one plan.
1. The US will apologize to the world for our “interference” in their affairs, past &present. You know, Hitler, Mussolini, Tojo, Noriega, Milosovich and the rest of those ‘good ole boys, ‘We will never “interfere” again.
2. We will withdraw our troops from all over the world, starting with Germany, South Korea and the Philippines. They don’t want us there. We would station troops at our borders. No one sneaking through holes in the fence.
3. All illegal aliens have 90 days to get their affairs together and leave. We’ll give them a free trip home. After 90 days the remainder will be gathered up and deported immediately, regardless of who or where they are. France would welcome them.
4. All future visitors will be thoroughly checked and limited to 90 days unless given a special permit. No one from a terrorist nation would be allowed in. If you don’t like it there, change it yourself and don’t hide here. Asylum would never be available to anyone. We don’t need any more cab drivers or 7-11 cashiers.
5. No “students” over age 21. The older ! ones are the bombers. If they don’t attend classes, they get a “D” (for “deport”) and it’s back home baby.
6. The US will make a strong effort to become self-sufficient energy wise. This will include developing non-polluting sources of energy but will require a temporary drilling of oil in the Alaskan wilderness. The caribou will have to cope for a while.
7. Offer Saudi Arabia and other oil producing countries $10 a barrel for their oil. If they don’t like it, we go some place else. They can go somewhere else to sell their production. (About a week of the wells filling up the storage sites would be enough.)
8. If there is a famine or other natural catastrophe in the world, we will not “interfere.” They can pray to Allah or whomever, for seeds, ! rain, cement or whatever they need. Besides most of what we give them is stolen or given to the army. The people who need it most get very little, if anything.
9. Ship the UN Headquarters to an isolated island some place. We don’t need the spies and fair weather friends here. Besides, the building would make a good homeless shelter or lockup for illegal aliens.
10. All Americans must go to charm and beauty school. That way, no one can call us “Ugly Americans” any longer. The Language we speak is ENGLISH…..learn it…or LEAVE…

At least some of the power elite are economically literate. The families who have “home offices” (from which they manage their family’s hundreds of millions of $$ in investments or business interests) that are qualitatively different from yours, in some cases staffed by full-time JDs, CPAs etc. have to have some smarts just out of self defense. To know if the “hired hands” are telling them the straight story. Which isn’t to say some PE scion are so dumb they need help tying their shoes.
My point is, raising the minimum wage, making millions of low-productivity workers unemployable, IS part of their plan.
With most of our land forces deployed, where is Oshitstain going to get the myriads of potential brown shirts to kick in our doors and staff those FEMA vacation resorts?
The “reserve army of the unemployed’ has always existed. Usually, the power elite makes some effort, if only when the cameras are on, to act as though they are gunning for full employment.
A large fraction of the chronic minimum wage cohort are youth, college kids making lattes who have no plans to make that a career. But for right now, it pays some tuition and provides some spending money. Or wives of the well-employed who will happily be retail help somewhere just to get out of the house while the mister practices law or whatever.
Those in charge WANT those myriad minimum income folk to be unemployable. Where will they go? The most docile, the most obedient of them will be the brown shirts who will be engaging us when the time comes. They don’t have the options the power elite kids have. They don’t have the choice of starbucks or the bond trading desk at JP Morgan.
Plus it prevents the formation of the next generation middle class. If they can’t get a foot in the door, and earn their way up, they can’t accumulate the wealth-producing assets that traditionally has given the middle class the luxury of thinking for itself while proudly resisting being suck ups to the government.
Short answer is, they want us all unemployed, homeless and hungry. Because it makes us dependent on the tyrant. Because their ultimate goal is our extermination.

I’m going to throw a story out there, just because I feel like posting up something positive in this thread. It comes from somebody I know personally and it’s happening RIGHT NOW:
A woman living in my area who came from another country. Bad childhood, bad ex husband. One child. No resources. If I said she signed up for welfare, food stamps and Medicaid you would not be surprised. But she didn’t.
Somehow, somewhere along the way, she recognized that those things are a government TRAP. They help in the short term but hold you back later. She refuses to take government assistance of any kind. I and a few business associates and friends of mine do what we can to give her a hand UP, not a handOUT. Found her a cheap apartment, bought her a dress to go to job interviews. Pennies to us, but resources she needs if she’s going to have a run at this.
Few weeks later she’s got a job paying $8/hr. walking distance from her apartment (and someplace to look after her little girl while she’s working).
Few months later she tells us “I found a better job”. $16/hr. Beat out 12 oher people to get it. DOUBLE the pay! But short driving distance, not walking distance. She’s borrowing a car temporarily, but says she’s got enough saved up to pay for a cheap used car, does anyone have one to sell? Again, NOT a hand-out. She wants to pay a fair price. My mother-in-law is ready to trade in her 17 year old Pontiac so she offers it up for $1000. Sold. Now she’s got her own wheels.
I can’t tell you any more of the story because that’s where things are as of 5 hours ago. How will it turn out? Couldn’t tell you. But what I CAN tell you is that she has made a lot of friends who respect what she’s trying to do WITHOUT taking a government hand-out. She’s done more with the small help we’ve given her than probably tens of throusands of dollars of welfare could ever accomplish.
Americans have been down-and-out before. But I’ve never seen so many Americans who are so…. hopeless. Like their spirit has been broken or something. Watch a single mother from another country with NOTHING plugging forward and gaining some measure of success is, I think, one of the little things that reminds me that not all is lost.

I disagree with the premise that hiking the minimum wage is doing the exact opposite of what is intended by causing mass layoffs… I think that’s exactly what our current Glorious Leader wants. If it’s bad for the country, he is for it. If it hurts all the people he pretends to support, then he will do it. The man is a liar and a purposeful deceiver. No one is this incompetent. No one is this unaware of how a free economy works and self regulates with supply and demand. He is utterly lawless and holds everything he claims to value in deep contempt. So they raise the minimum wage, that’s fine. Next the retailers raise their prices to cover the higher wages. So basically it puts them back where they started. The minimum wage earners are still below the real poverty line. The trick is, the government won’t recognize that poverty line so they can so they can take those people off the subsidies and save more money for themselves.
I live in a mountain valley, where businesses are folding because the owners cannot make payroll as things stand. One worked 14 hour days, running a small diner with his wife. They could not afford any employee at minimum wage, and still went under. There are many homeless former construction workers in the area, with no employment at any wage. Raising minimum wage in a depression is typical Communist central-planning, intended to fail. When will Obama send SEALS into the Cayman Islands, and seize all bank records? That should lead to a few trillion in taxes, and breathe life into the economy with a tax-credit to every citizen.
