In what can only be considered additional blows to the United States consumer, the Trump administration has now added tariffs to some products coming from the European Union. Cheese, olive oil, scotch, wine, and coffee have all been targeted by the government.
The World Trade Organization has authorized the Trump administration to impose duties on the EU after deciding that the EU failed to completely end illegal loan subsidy programs for Airbus. The EU argues it has taken meaningful steps to comply and expects the WTO to validate that in a separate ruling, according to a report by Politico. However, Trump already has tariffs plans for $7.5 billion worth of European aircraft, agricultural and industrial goods that will go into effect later this month.
“For years, Europe has been providing massive subsidies to Airbus that have seriously injured the U.S. aerospace industry and our workers,” U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer said in a statement. “We expect to enter into negotiations with the European Union aimed at resolving this issue in a way that will benefit American workers.”
“It was a big win for the United States,” Trump said during a joint press conference with Finnish President Sauli Niinistö, who was in Washington for bilateral talks. Other countries still believe Trump is violating international trade rules. Under the new ruling, the Trump administration can now impose tariffs up to 100%.
The decision is the highest penalty ever granted by a WTO arbitrator. American officials said the United States would use the authority to impose a 10 percent tariff on Airbus aircraft and a 25 percent duty on various European agricultural and industrial goods effective October 18. –Politico
The EU plans to retaliate hitting dairy farmers the hardest. Cheese and other dairy products will likely be the target of retaliatory tariffs on U.S. goods.
Reacting to the announcement, Airbus CEO Guillaume Faury said U.S. tariffs “would have a negative impact on not only the U.S. airlines but also U.S. jobs, suppliers, and air travelers.”
For its part, the mainstream media doesn’t seem nearly as concerned about the effects of these tariffs as they were over those placed on Chinese goods. But tariffs are still a tax, and still force the cost of goods higher, meaning the American consumer is about to take one more hit.
Nowadays, they say that something is made in America, and show you the actual factory, staffed by demographic replacements, to say nothing of the production standards, or whether it is for-profit, in a free market. At least, you get the statism.
These gourmet foods are not necessarily made by indigenous Europeans, and they don’t necessarily make it any better than you.

Yes they do. Actually the EU has by far the best food safety standards in the world. A million times better than ours which is in a state of chaos (anyone can put anything they want into your food w/o consequence) because the agencies like the FDA and USDA simply do not care about food safety complaints and never do anything about it. Compare that to the EU where they pretty much test everything on their own without food safety complaints even having to be filed. If you eat food from this country you take your own health and well being in your hands.
Leftards spray unwanted poisons and tamper with foods, in both regions. I would suggest for anyone repeatedly accused of being a Trump supporter to test your soil, and get serious about security, wherever food is kept and handled.

Protected brands of produce are not exceptional, assuming that the grower was conscientious — and not subjected to sabotage.
Where arsonists had burned other than the normal farm waste, there was some concern about flavor.
Also, the oil and wine have been the subject of scandals in recent years.
I would like to believe that cultural conservatives can’t do that to themselves.
But, artisinal producers are not necessarily for-profit. Some state actor is receiving corporate welfare for a sort-of historical reenactment.
Again, not necessarily produced indigenous Europeans, yet the product has some protected origins status, like a national treasure. Their people don’t.

All of these items except coffee are produced IN the USA. American Coffee companies grow coffee in South America and Africa. American consumers will not suffer AT ALL !!!

If the tariff causes the prices to fall for exported dairy products. then the USA consumers will be benefited.
To benefit the aerospace industry. Like those workers don’t already enjoy very high pay and benefits unlike the majority of workday slobs in America who struggle to keep a roof over their heads and food on the table. More and bigger war machinery protects the worldwide tyranny imposed on once free prospering Americans turned into low wage peons.
Yeah for ten minutes. Aerospace has been the single most layoff prone industry I can remember since the late 80’s.

I’m very well acquainted with the aerospace industry.
They really don’t pay all that well, considering the Skill set you need to work there and the cyclic nature of the job.
I had many job offers that would have nearly doubled my salary at the time. One offer I turned down would have made me into a multi millionaire ( hindsight is perfect). I turned them down for personal reasons.
My brother got laid off and it was 5 years before he was recalled, so over a 30 year period only 25 years of fairly good pay, add in a few lengthy strikes and you get the idea.
Most guys in the industry live on overtime.
If you are union you’ll get overtime pay . If you are non-union you still have to put in those hours so you’d better negotiate your salary accordingly.
Most my years in the industry I generally worked 25 -30% overtime, had many 60 hour weeks, and more than a few at 84
(that’s 7 days 12 hours at work). Many, many of my co-workers and family had marriages that ended in divorce due to the large amount of time devoted to work.
Want to get rich? become a Politician, Lawyer, Doctor, Dentist,
et al. Don’t work in Aerospace.
I’ve never been in a union, but I’ve gotten overtime pay at every job I’ve ever worked, factories, a law firm, even convenience stores.

We have three domestic products of comparable quality and one foreign one also of about the same quality.
That would be D1, D2, and D3 plus F1
All the Ds are retailing between $100 and $125 while F1 comes in at $85.
Presumably anyone shopping price would buy F1 at $85.
Now Mr. Trump comes along and slaps a $30 tariff on F1. The US Government collects that money from the importing company (I assume).
So at this point somebod(ies) in the F1 distribution network has to make a decision. How much of the $30 cost increase to them is going to be reflected ultimately in the retail price ?
Let’s assume they pass along all of it so F1 now retails for $115.
The Government has collected $30 per unit in Tariffs (Taxes) and I, as a consumer, now have 4 comparable quality products to choose from – 3 domestic and 1 foreign just like before.
But I also now pay more that product since the retail price is now comparable and higher for all my choices.
So in the short run the Tariff has made me spend more for no gain.
So the F1 manufacturer may move their production from China to Viet Nam to try and recover some of their margin, No ?
They surely aren’t going to necessarily move production to Kansas as their first choice now are they ?
So how do WE all benefit from the Tariffs again ?

We don’t benefit from tariffs. Everyone loses. Some might lose more than others.
Companies are already shifting production to other Asian countries. This idea that those jobs are coming back is a dream.
At the end of the day, corporations are going to drive for the lowest production cost because the American consumer wants the lowest price. Walmart and now Amazon have been and are two of the strongest companies because they offer what Americans want, low cost items.

Olive trees are now also grown in Texas, Georgia, Florida, Arizona, Oregon, Alabama, and Hawaii (on the island of Maui).
One of only two states in the United States of America able to grow coffee plants commercially is Hawaii, the other being California. However, it is not the only coffee grown on U.S. soil; for example, Puerto Rico has had a coffee industry for some time, although it is not a state but a U.S. territory.

Much of the store bought olive oil is fake anyway, it’s blends of rape seed oil and palm oil etc, buyers beware. There are sites that name the best real and worst fake brands of olive oil. Olive oil normally has a one year shelf life, but anyone who wants to stockpile a couple years worth can just keep it in a freezer, and restart the expiration clock when you defrost it. Same goes for butter, vacuum seal, and freeze it for an extended shelf life
There are some good recipes to make mozzarella cheese from powdered milk and some sticks of butter, on YouTube. Look them up and write the recipe in your prepper cook book. If you store up powdered milk for the SHTF, now you know what to do with any that is soon to expire, just make homemade cheese, and then replenish your powdered milk supply.
Prepping can be yummy, and supplies bought in quantity on sale can save you money while you eat like a king.
