A Florida Sheriff’s video, which urges civilians to arm themselves and prepare for war, is quickly making the rounds on social media. But he has a point when one listens logically. He warns that when a mass murderer strikes, the government won’t immediately be there to save you; it’ll be your job to save yourself.
Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey posted the controversial video message on Facebook Wednesday, two days after a deadly workplace shooting in nearby Orlando claimed the lives of five people. The Florida sheriff urged citizens to arm themselves in self-defense saying “this is war.”
He doesn’t mean war in the sense that nukes will be flying, but the war against mass homicides and sociopaths who only seek the destruction of human life. “What’s next is to fully understand that this is war, and you better be prepared to wage war to protect you, your family, and those around you if attacked,” he said. Ivey stressed that attackers rely on people running, hiding, and waiting for help, rather than fighting back. And they will use guns, knives, bombs, and even trucks to kill innocents. “What they don’t count on is being attacked themselves, having to become defensive to save their own lives,” Ivey argued.
Become the first line of defense to prevent the loss of life, and protect yourselves and others. That was the underlying message the sheriff sought to convey.

Ivey’s video is irritating anti-gun lobbyists and politicians who seem content with letting people die with a minimal chance of survival. Ivey encouraged people to take self-defense classes and urged those with concealed weapons permits to carry their guns with them at all times. “No matter who you are or what your position is on guns, there’s no denying the fact that the only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun or a knife is an armed and well-prepared citizen or law enforcement officer,” Ivey said. Ivey is simply stating the obvious. Yet, he’s being called “controversial.”
Ivey’s being accused of “fear mongering” and riling up vigilantes for refusing to tow the line. As those in government, police included, continue to lean toward more gun control, (for everyone but themselves, of course) it’s becoming obvious that those in charge want us to suffer at the whims of the sociopathic mass murderers. Leonard Papania, the police chief in Gulfport, Mississippi, spoke out against weakening gun regulations to the New York Times, saying, “Do you want every incident on your street to escalate to acts of gun violence?”
Gun control is a sensitive issue for most, as the logical in society understand that gun ownership doesn’t make one a mass murdering homicidal maniac or terrorist. But the emotional side of people inhibits their brain from understanding that a gun can be used in self-defense, and may even prevent the loss of innocent life. When guns become outlawed, only outlaws will have guns. An old saying, but one the hoplophobes seem to continue to forget.

What’s the difference between a sheriff and a police chief? A sheriff is elected, a police chief is not. In this article, a sheriff is telling his constituents to protect themselves, a police chief from Mississippi is whining because he doesn’t believe people should be armed. Although he didn’t say it outright, that’s exactly what he’s getting at. The difference is power and control. The sheriff’s power goes as far as the citizens who elect him. The police chief doesn’t answer to citizens, he exercises power and control over them. If citizens are allowed to carry, which they are but most don’t, and exercise that right that police chief feels powerless because he doesn’t have as much perceived control. Think about it like this, if an entire towns citizens, say 20,000 people, decided to start carrying weapons, do you think those cops would keep treating them as shitty as they do? I know there’s good cops blah blah blah but way too many cops are on the power trip just because they have a badge and a gun, and are pretty much protected in most everything they do, including killing people under very questionable circumstances. Its unrealistic to have a rife on your person and be 360 degree on guard during your every day activities. It is realistic not to be bunched up and look for barriers, natural and intentional that limit or prevent ingress of a vehicle at speed. I have a friend who’s wife insists that he not be armed in church. He just bought a smaller more concealable pistol. Gun free zones, non carry states, masses of people, bottlenecks in egress are all to be looked at reproachfully. In every hotel I stay in I count the doors to the staircase exit and make a mental note if its to the right or left of my room. In event of a fire with lots of smoke its no time to figure our how to get the hell out of there. In the end, concentrating on this .00001% chance while driving by drunks and nit wits is illogical.
A hotel floor map is on your hotel room door by the peephole. And shows what room you are in with a red X and where the exits are. I believe that is Federal fire code law. Situational awareness folks, you would already know this.

I was at Home Depot picking up parts (no one else had them – right now) and at the checkout a foreign guy walks up to the lady that is looking over the self checkouts. His accent was closer to Christopher Lambert’s, sounding like a ton of accents and he’s olive complexion. He’s walking up holding a propane tank saying he found it outside, while the woman is saying take it outside ( a little forcibly and a little shocked – I think she initially thought the worst). I initially thought the worst but realized he’d have to be a great actor to seem as clueless and wanting to be as honestly helpful as he appeared. Flying tackle averted.

Several times having a firearm that I legally carry has prevented harm to myself and my family. Just a casual moving of my coat showing my firearm in my belt stopped things at the start.
