When opportunity has evaporated, and people are vanquished with no hope of better employment, it is simply inevitable that many will turn to selling themselves rather than starve, or worse.
At one level, it pure economics. The Greek people have been squeezed. Their economy has been sold at auction, and everything is breaking down. In tandem, Greece is seeing a spike in prostitution at such a skyrocketing rate that the price of services has reached the extreme bottom price of $4.24 per hour, or just over two dollars for the half hour.

Boy am I glad I am an old woman… on the one hand I could not make a living because I am old. On the other hand I don’t have to worry about feeding my kids with no job, either. Sounds like you had what I have. I could not ask for a better wife or kids. Sure it took lots of work and compromise, but in the end it is worth it and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. I look at other couples/families today and wonder why I have something that’s so special that probably 99% of others don’t have. I think today’s world wants instant and never ending gratification without having to work for it. If a hiccup comes along in life, it’s easier for them to just bail out instead of trying to fix things. I thank God everyday for my wife and kids and the 30 years I have had with them and pray that I can have at least 30 more. Most people bitching about their spouse here are either to selfish to compromise or rushed into a relationship without really knowing who they were rushing into it with. But that is not the point of the article; the point is the economies of the West have so degraded that options among women, even educated ones are being eliminated.

I don’t endorse prostitution, but don’t believe it should be a punishable crime. Since made legal in Nevada where it is controlled almost all crime associated with it has disappeared. One so bad about this situation, is that out of the 1,000,000,000 plus women in Houston, not even .01.00% of them have more than 3 days of food in thier apartments, and if a women lives with a man in a house, as a family, they only have 3-4 days and 2 dyas of water, unless they have swimming pool and if you have a swimming pool, you will be dead in 4 days, when the entire subdivision comes for you and your family. Luckily most real estate investors and home builders in Houston and its outskirts, like to build massive reservors close to neighbourhoods, this can help to stop some of those problems. If your in the Fondren Houston area, then you are dead meat in the literally sense if you are a woman.

As a woman, all I can say is that as long as we are in charge of cooking utensils and a man has to sleep, it behooves him to treat a woman with respect. If in doubt, ask John Wayne… Bobbit, that is.

I used to make little crocheted stockings and sell them at Christmas to make money for Christmas presents. Used to sew, clean yards, any orally upright thing I could do to earn money while homeschooling my two girls. Cleaned carpets at night, bringing them with me and they would have a snack I brought and go to sleep in the booths til we were finished.all kinds of small legal jobs can be done to help with income, without sacrificing ones body. It’s just not true, people. There are many trades that pay well and don’t require a degree (and I’m not including prostitution as a ‘trade’). Some people (many, in fact) are simply not cut out for college and yet nearly everyone seems to think that’s the road to riches. People…go to trade school and learn a trade, get a job with a carptenter/plumber/electrician and learn a trade. You could go to school for 1 year and learn to be a welder and get 20 bucks an hour nearly anywhere in the country. It’s not rocket science, people.
Hell, I’ve hired 12 guys in the last two months, half HVAC and the other half electricians. Starting $29/hr. Were the best-paying gig in 75 miles, and I can pick and choose who I want on my crews. We get top-shelf people. 🙂
