The aftermath of powerful earthquakes in Venezuela has resulted in the deaths of dozens and injuries to hundreds of people. The earthquakes struck Venezuela’s northern Caribbean coast on Wednesday, causing widespread destruction in Caracas and several other regions.

Many of the deaths and injuries occurred in La Guaira, Carabobo, and parts of the capital, as those were the hardest-hit areas. Rescue teams are continuing to search through the rubble for survivors as aftershocks continue to shake the region.

According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the epicenter was located off Venezuela’s northern coast near the city of Morón. The earthquakes were felt across much of the country, as well as in neighboring Colombia and several Caribbean islands. More than 20 aftershocks have been recorded, prompting authorities to warn residents to remain vigilant.

The government has declared a nationwide state of emergency, deploying the armed forces, civil defense units, and emergency services, according to a report by RT. Schools, public transport and some airports have been temporarily closed, while power, water and communications have been disrupted in several parts of the country. Simon Bolivar International Airport remains closed because of damage, while metro and rail services in Caracas are suspended.

SOCIALISM: Venezuela’s Inflation Rate Could Hit ONE MILLION PERCENT

Back in January, the US kidnapped Venezuela’s ruler, Nicolas Maduro, and his wife, igniting widespread condemnation. The US said that “regime change” was necessary in Venezuela after Washington’s war mongers committed war crimes by striking civilian boats accused of “narco terrorism” without evidence.

Those paying attention saw the conflict for what it was: a ploy to take Venezuela’s oil.

Since there’s been limited success with this plan, is that part of the reason the US struck Iran in late February, igniting another war? It is difficult to say, but since we won’t be told the truth, we’ll have to piece things together on our own.

What will be interesting is whether the US will willingly help Venezuela after the earthquakes. Trump insisted earlier this week that he was “getting along great” with Venezuela’s acting president, Delcy Rodriguez, even though she demanded Maduro’s release from captivity.
