The latest Quinnipiac University poll found that only 32 percent of all registered voters support how president Donald Trump has handled his second term in office. Several factors are influencing the low approval rating, including the high fuel prices caused by the war with Iran.

Accoridng to the poll, 58 percent of respondents disapproved, and 10 percent did not offer an opinion on his job performance.

According to a report by The Hill, Trump’s approval rating marks a new low for Trump’s presidency in the center’s polling. A CNN survey conducted within the same period reported an approval rating of 34 percent for the president.

By and large, the GOP still supports Trump. At the time of polling in July, 66 percent of respondents surveyed approved of Trump’s job performance, while only 12 percent of Republicans disapproved. The results are a notable difference from the university’s June 24 poll, in which 85 percent of Republicans expressed confidence in the president.

A White House spokesperson told The Hill, “No other President in history has accomplished more for the American people than President Trump, who is working tirelessly to create jobs, cool inflation, increase housing affordability, and more. The President has already made historic progress not only in America but around the world, and this is just the beginning as his agenda continues taking effect.”

This isn’t exactly a balm for those suffering under the weight of rising fuel prices and grocery store inflation that seems to be running away at this point. People care less about the words of politicians, and are seeing the destruction of their livelihoods.

More than half, 54 percent, of respondents said that the US is not winning the war, compared to the 36 percent who said they believe the country is winning. Eleven percent had “no opinion” on the matter. Additionally, 66 percent said the conflict has not been worth the benefits.

Horrifyingly, 67 percent of Republicans say that the war with Iran has been worth fighting.  It looks like party lines are here to stay. People choose a side and toss morality aside in order to keep in line with their political party.

To be fair, the Quinnipiac University poll pn;y surveyed 963 self-described registered voters across the country. Polling took place from July 23-27 with a margin of error of 4.1 percentage points.
