If you’re worried about a nuclear blast, tsunami, earthquake or other disaster, then Robert Vicino might be able to help:

Where would you go in the event of a catastrophe? For $50,000, one man says he will guarantee your family’s security in the event of a nuclear blast, tsunami, earthquake or other disaster.

“That whole upper structure can be blown away, debris could fall in here — doesn’t matter, [it] won’t get inside,” said Robert Vicino, a San Diego inventor and real estate entrepreneur.

Vicino’s master plan is to build a self-contained shelter to be a safe haven in the case of a catastrophe.

Vicino is the man behind Vivos and his vision is a nationwide network of underground shelters for survival.

“There will be double layers and razor wire. This will be an impenetrable compound when we’re done,” Vicino said while giving me a tour of the site at an undisclosed location in the middle of the desert, halfway between Los Angeles and Las Vegas.

Vicino plans to offer a solution that he calls the ultimate life insurance policy. He says his complex will sustain life in the event of an Armageddon-like disaster, such as a nuclear blast, natural disaster, chemical and biological attacks or even the predicted end of the world according to the Mayans — 2012. It is a scenario that has often been played out on the big screen and chronicled in newsmagazines.

      1. One tiny problem:  If TSHTF, how will his “customers” get to this site?

Unless you live walking distance to his properties, your money will be better spent elsewhere.

      2. TO SPEND ALOT OF TIME,$ AND ENERGY ON AN “EVERY MAN FOR HIMSELF ” DOOMESDAY SCENARIO IS FUTILE. YOULL BE DEAD OR BEGGING FOR A DICTATORIAL GOVERNMENT TO TAKE CONTROL. GO TO VEGAS AND BET EVERYTHING YOU OWN ON RED

      3. Comments…..I know a number of hard core preppers from the 90’s on.  The one prepper from the 80’s is dead and several of the 90’s ones died a few years ago and their heirs took the gold and silver and  threw out or donated the  food, etc. to  charities or food banks. I hope they kept the guns and ammo.  Being retired, and some friends older,  we now prep little, (we’re “burned out”)  and if the worst happens we’ll do the best we can with what little we have.  If an EMP attack happens (back to the 19th century) life won’t be worth living anyway.

      4. I am in the wrong business….what a “scam”, he takes everyones money now, and when/if nothing happens he will buy back their shares for pennies on the dollar. Meanwhile he has set himself up for with a  free bunker, in the unlikely event of a 2012 doomsday scenario,  almost to himself as very few of his customers will have the time to get there.

      5. TO EVERYONE — WHAT  IS A REALISTIC SHTF CAUSE? TEOTWAWKI CAUSE?

      6. SHTF:
-Major earthquake with resulting infrastructure damage lasting months or a year.
        -Major hurricane with same results.
        -Rodney King style riots
-major flooding with same infrastructure damage
-small asteriod impact (atomic bomb level damage)

        TEOTWAWKI
-Yellowstone super volcano (caldera) goes off and wipes out United States
-Solar flare generates EMP and wipes out power grid on North American continent for years
-Collapse of American dollar and economic system.  Resulting total breakdown of society into clan type groups, widespread fighting for resources
-Large scale asteroid impact (millions of atomic bombs) create new ice age over the whole planet for thousands of years, most species on Earth die out (including us)
-Aliens arrive and disinfect Earth to use for their own ends.

      7. CAN WE FOCUS ON TYPES OF ECONOMIC/ POLITICAL CAUSES AS THIS SITE  DOES HAVE A HEADLINE QUOTE FROM MISES AND MAJORITY OF LINKS TO ECONOMISTS. MANMADE OR GOVERNMENT CAUSED DISASTERS/CONSPIRACY O.K. ..ASTEROIDS AND ALIENS? COME ON! NATURAL DISASTERS  WILL ALWAYS OCCUR LETS LEAVE AL GORE SCIENCE SOMEWHERE  ELSE. STAY FOCUSED PEOPLE

      8. I didn’t quote Al Gore……

      9. For myself, I do not sit around worrying about THE trigger which will destroy life as we know it. Try replacing the word “prepper” with the words ‘common sense’ and that is a just description of me. I live in the right spot, I am continually striving for self sufficiency on as many levels as possible, I no longer feed the beast, and I am wide awake to the extreme probability that we are in for some very hard times. I fail to see how a person could get burned out on breathing clean mountain air, eating home grown fruits/veggies/meats, spending quality time with family, establishing deeper relationships with God, nature, neighbors, and seeking validation from these sources as well as yourself for a change rather than the filthy ass world and the trappings thereof. Knowing that you are capable of handling most any reasonable situation which may come about brings confidence and piece of mind. Sitting around waiting for the FEDs to “come get me” , or some other grand kickoff event merely leads to fear, paranoia, isolation, and may well serve to be self fulfilling prophecy. I do see how that particular outlook taken to it’s logical conclusion could get old in a hurry. America is a big country, the world covers a lot of ground…….we are already IN process here, the trigger has already been pulled, the event is upon us. The final undoing will be humanities total lack of humanity when the shit begins to hit the fan in any meaningful fashion. When the money runs out the blood will run too, mark my words.

      11. Laura, I knew some people in the 70’s and 80’s who bought auto insurance and homeowners insurance. They never once had an auto accident nor did their house burn down. Were they wrong to have purchased the insurance? The peace of mind  that came from their insurance purchases was worth it, at least to them. When they passed on, their heirs received zero for their auto and homeowners insurance. Looking back, it was a watse of money to purchase insurance all those years and not use it . At the time of the purchase, it relieved them of the stress of making a mistake or having some “bad luck”. To be prepared is another form of insurance and when you are gone, your heirs can will have  some value for the money spent.

      12. If things get bad simply look up your local Democrats for food, money, gasoline or whatever else you need.

They like to give our tax money away so shouldn’t mind giving up all the things they need to keep themselves and their families alive in a time of national crisis.

If they have what you need then ask for it and make sure they provide it.      Daddy Obama will take care of them and so they can provide you whatever they have stolen from the American public the last 17 months of Obama’s administration.

      13. Jaream- bro, I think your caps-lock button is stuck

      14. @ sanity…my sentiments exactly!!! Couldn’t have said it better!

      15. At least the democrats would pass out supplies to ordinary people that needed them, at least until their incompetence caused the supply to run out.  The republicans on the other hand, took our money in even larger chunks for eight years, and used it to enrich themselves and build fortified compounds in third world countries.  That way, when the house of cards they built comes down, the bushes and cheneys can flee and leave us to our fate.

      16. Thanks grannyb, evidently the system thought it deserving of a double. LOL  If one truly wishes to know what they may be up against in the future, and to what degree humanity has fallen, go ask some of the neighbors what they intend to do in a time of perpetual crisis. (ask in a generic, half interested, what if sense so as to maintain opsec) A few of mine have actually stated that they “have enough bullets to get more bullets”.  Now I have a better understanding of what I need to prepare for.  This underlying mindset is a major contributing factor inwhy we find ourselves here today; both individually and as a nation………and why it shall not end good at all.

      17. Unfortunately, your right SJ.

      18. SPECIFICITY  SEEMS TO BE LACKING OTHER THAN JOHNNY V . ALL THIS VAGUE CONVERSATION OF SHTF.SANITY SAYS DONT WORRY ABOUT TRIGGER , BUT, IT HAS ALREADY BEEN PULLED, HUH?   VAGUE  RAMBLING, BLAH ,BLAH, BLAH . I WAS HOPING FOR SOME INTELLIGENT ECONOMIC INSIGHT

      19. The secret to survival is the secret of real estate: location, location, location. Unfortunately, this guy has chosen a spot that will be about 5,000 feet underwater after the crash, flash, and splash (pole shift).

In California get above 5,000 feet.

      20. If the country had more people like sanityjones we would not even be thinking about TSHTF. Everyone would work hard to provide for themselves and there families and not give second thought to helping others what a fantasy. But I think we all know in the real world that more people would rather sucker you out of $50,000 for space in a bunker you will probably never make it to or they would kill you to take your stuff. The shit hit the fan years ago and no body survived. The nation of old America was sold to the owners of new America right now new America is going though economic sanctions all will comply or you will probably be considered OBAMABUSH terrorists.

      21. Oh god, now its a pole shift…at at 4:02 or 4:03 on 4/25 right?  Time to give it a rest.

      22. So, what do you think the future topography will look like?  Are the Canadian/Alaskan mountain ranges safe?

      23. YES THEY ARE SAFE AND YOU WILL BE SERVED KOOL AID

      24. Jonny V:   Nome will be at the “top” of the world after the shift. The waters will move from the southwest to the northeast, worldwide, during the “splash”. The central lowland interior of Canada will be underwater as the cap melts fom the “flash”. Try the east side of the Canadian Rockies with some elevation. Should be a good survival spot for Rambo.

NE Canada will rise, with Greenland and Scandinava. The Highlands of Scotland will be safe. Fairbanks Alaska will be a safe place also, but chilly. Parts of Arizona will be safe. New Mountains will be formed in the lower Rockies of New Mexico and Texas.

South Africa will be history, except for its highest points. Include Hawaii, most of Japan, and various island nations in that list. New mountains will rise out of the sea southwest of Chile and Agentina.

I do not yet know about Seattle.

      25. IS THIS WHATS IN STORE ON MONDAY ? I THOUGHT YOU WERE ONLY GIVING CLUES . DOES THIS MEAN I DONT HAVE TO WATCH MY CARBS ANY MORE?

      26. Jaream: Read between the lines and there is a host of economic information here. But hey! I like your suggestion to go to Vegas and put it all on RED!

        RED is my favorite!

      27. SPECIFICITY  SEEMS TO BE LACKING…….

        We are screwed.

I WAS HOPING FOR SOME INTELLIGENT ECONOMIC INSIGHT….

It was the economy, politicians, greed, bankers, dipshits, depravity, lust, envy, etc what screwed us.

If you must have a specific worry then by all means pick out one or two of the dozen or so possible bogeymen under the bed, grab a blanky and head to the closet to suck your thumb. The fact is that the wheels have come off the cart, the show is over, BLAH, BLAH, BLAH as you so intelligently put it, and we are screwed. You have two choices……one I have listed above. The second would be to stop, look and listen. Disengage from the system, make simple calculated decisions which maximize your potential to weather the coming storm, and stop worrying about the coming thing which will send us all off in grand fashion. The system is the cause,  the system is what is screwed, the system is the event as it collapses under it’s own weight. If it will make you feel better to have a scapegoat/trigger, (something to blame), as you watch the system implode………just pick something. I doubt anyone will bother to correct you should you be mistaken. It simply will not matter.

      28. IF I WERE TO PLAY YOUR GAME , AND I GUES S IAM BY SAYING ARNOLD WILL TELL US THEY ARE BANKRUPT

      29. Jaream: The 24th is a regional event with national consequences, global ramifications, and metaphysical implications for us all. The above post was my specific suggestion for Jonny V’s quest for a low key, off the beaten path, wilderness retreat.

Threw in some tidbits for the international community online here.

      30. SANITY- I’M NOT LOOKING TO BLAME, IKNOW THE CAUSES OF THE MESS WERE IN , I AGREE WITH YOUR LIST ,DONT FORGET TO ADD BABY BOOMER GENERATION TO IT. WHAT WILL KNOCK THE WHEEL OFF THE CART WERE ON? TREASURY YIELDS ARE STILL LOW, NO PROBLEM SELLING OUR DEBT,HOPEFULLY DEMS WILL LOSE POWER IN THE FALL , EURO SUCKS RIGHT NOW , WERE STILL RESERVE CURRENCY, THER ARE ?S OF CHINAS ECONOMIC STABILITY, OUR ECONOMY IS THE LARGEST. INFLATION?- NOT WITH HIGH UNEMPLOYMENT, VELOCITY OF MONEY IS SLOW,CASH IS KING RIGHT NOW.HOW DOES THE WORLD DECOUPLE FROM THE DOLLAR? SO , ANY INSIGHT TO WHAT YOU CALL A TRIGGER  WOULD BE INTERESTING

      31. SANITY -I’VE BEEN DONE WORRYING IN EARLY 09. I’M READY . I JUST WANT TO KNOW WHEN THIS TAKES PLACE , A”TRIGGER”  MAY HELP WITH THIS IMPOSSIBLE QUESTION.

      32. SOMETHING IN MY GUT TELLS ME THIS MONDAY

      33. Well Z, good to know that my evacuation plan is more or less intact, and that there will be refreshments when I finally get there.  Have you seen a map lately?  Nome is damn near the top of the world right now……As far as Seattle goes, one would have to head into the Cascades to get above 5000 feet or so in a hurry.  About a 1-2 hour drive.  The problem is that the highways go down to one lane (US 2) or 2 lanes (I90) pretty quick.  If there was a lot of traffic, like any regular weekend right now, you’d be looking at long lines trying to go east.

I think that the “low key off the beaten path” idea is a good one.  I would much rather take my chances with my fishing rods and rifles than try to battle a bunch of idiot cops and bikers over some canned crap with no real nutritional value anyway.  The more time I spend away from people, the happier I am.  I hope that at least 100 million people die in whatever disaster comes along.  Hell, why hold back?, I hope it’s a BILLION.  There are way too many people on this rock, and all these dumbasses just keep spewing out more kids.

      34. Oh, and I’m not into caves either, too easy to get buried alive.  I’m in construction, and have been studying log building techniques for three years now.  Pretty sure I can put something together for myself.  Look for a show called “Alone in the Wilderness” on PBS.  Good primer of the required skills, although by no means thorough………..

      35. Jaream, I think perhaps you are asking for a one size fits all answer to this riddle. I do not believe that there will be a singular event or trigger which, like a switch, turns humanity into a free for all fight to the finish. As much as we have been made to conform in this country, we are all still very much individuals, and as such we react to pressures (real or imagined) quite differently. What makes one man snap and go postal on a Sunday afternoon, while another man takes the same event or something worse in stride and keeps on truckin’ is beyond understanding. The human psyche is capable of  withstanding far more grief, turmoil, despair, and madness than most of us will ever know, yet so fragile at times as to nearly perish under the weight of the slightest perceived discomfort or inconvenience. One thing I do know for certain is the fact that we have become so soft and so spoiled, undisciplined, expectant/demanding of our comforts and securities that when it is finally understood that Bernanke and Co. really do mean that we need to get used to a lower standard of living, along with less services, this is when the weakest links of society will begin to disintegrate.  In other words……once the money is gone, and everything that goes with it, society will destroy itself. The trigger is within each and every one of us. How we react to the stimuli will determine the outcome of this great experiment.

      36. ELOQUENTLY SAID

      37. zukaduh said “The 24th is a regional event with national consequences, global ramifications, and metaphysical implications for us all.”

Ok, its official, Zukadu needs to go back to Xanadu!

This has gone from mildly amusing to new age-a-mania ridiculous.  I now have more respect for the V man than zuk, and that ain’t saying much. Unless of course, they are one in the same, which has been my theory for months now. And if they are, then I have a new theory, can you say SYBIL?

      38. Jonny V:   Seen a map lately? I am a map! Take a globe and rotate it so that the Nome Penn is pointing North. Example: rotate the 3 about 90 degrees. See what I mean?

Understand the problem with caves, but its a good place to store your gear and yourself during the “Flash” in 2012. Build a cabin after the Flash. All caves are not created equal, but I have a really good one in the Central Highlands of AZ, carved out of solid rock. Could live there indefinitely.

If you like mountains, Durango Colorado is a good place. Or Angelfire New Mexico. Lots of water. Lots of game. Get out of the subduction zone. That can’t be a good place as the changes unfold.

        Semper Fi

      39. Hey Jonny V, you forgot the following:

        SHTF:
        – Bernanke shaves his stache and the markets drop 2000 points
        – Geithner breaks into Fort Knox to pay his back taxes and discovers there is nothing there but shiny plastic gold pirate coins from kids happy meals toys

        TEOTWAWKI:
        – A plague of genetically modified locusts devour the planet’s trees and Bernanke runs out of paper with which to print money
        – Cramer gets at least half his stock picks right in a week

        and the finale…
        – Obama says that he has solved the world’s financial woes (better get out of Dodge on that one)

      40. I’ll be sure to add these to the list so as to update my list of triggers for possible emergency move to my bug-out location.  Thanks for the help!

      41. Jonny V: I checked your link ……………. there’s no map! 🙂 How is everybody going to find it?

      42. They don’t give you a map until AFTER you pay your deposit and secure your spot in the fishing lodge!!    🙂

      43. 50K? multiple discounts?

      44. Less than 50k actually, and that makes fly fishing for steelhead an economical choice as far as teotwawki goes.  Plus, women don’t like standing in 45 degree water for hours on end getting rained and snowed on.  That means that I don’t have to listen to her crabbin and howling.  All the guides will gladly bring along some Crown Royal too.  Why in the hell would anyone want to go in some hole in the ground?  Confront the end like a man, on your own terms, that’s what I say!!!   🙂

      45. Wait, you’re saying if I fly fish for hours at a time in the snow, rain, cold or pretty much any other weather my wife won’t bother me?

I could have used this information 10 years ago.

Better late than never. I am heading down to Bass Pro Shop to learn more about this new, very important survival technique.

Thanks Johnny! This is a life saver – in more ways than one!
