In order to silence protests suggesting President Obama is not a natural born citizen of the United States, and thus unable to serve as the Commander In Chief, the President’s staff released a Certification of Live Birth as evidence of his eligibility. As we outlined in a previous article, there are millions of Americans who aren’t convinced, and they want more proof:

Though a Certification of Live Birth has been made available to the public by numerous sources including this link at the LA Times, there is a dispute as to whether or not this document proves that the President was born in the USA. The question regarding the document is not in its legitimacy, it is in the fact that in 1961, anyone, regardless of where they were born, could obtain such a certificate in Hawaii if they were a resident and requested a certification from the Hawaii Medical Examiner’s office. The document does not necessarily prove his birth in Hawaii, because it does not include a hospital or the name of the doctor who delivered him, which from our understanding, is a requirement on Birth Certificate, as opposed to a Certification of Live Birth.

The new governor of Hawaii wants to put an end to the debate. According to the New York Times newly elected Hawaiian Governor Neil Abercrombie is looking for ways to release proof of Mr. Obama’s natural born status:

Gov. Neil Abercrombie of Hawaii, who befriended President Obama’s parents when they were university students here, has been in office for less than three weeks. But he is so incensed over “birthers” — the conspiracy theorists who assert that Mr. Obama was born in Kenya and was thus not eligible to become president — that he is seeking ways to change state policy to allow him to release additional proof that the president was born in Honolulu in 1961.

“It’s an insult to his mother and to his father, and I knew his mother and father; they were my friends, and I have an emotional interest in that,” Governor Abercrombie said in a telephone interview late Thursday. “It’s an emotional insult. It is disrespectful to the president; it is disrespectful to the office.”

The governor, a Democrat and former congressman, said he has initiated conversations with the state’s attorney general and the chief of its Health Department about how he can release more explicit documentation of Mr. Obama’s birth on Aug. 4, 1961, at Kapiolani Maternity and Gynecological Hospital. He said he has done so of his own accord, without consulting the White House, which declined to comment.

The Governor did not make mention of exactly what documentation would be used to finally prove the President’s natural born status.

[Note that the very term “natural born” is also in dispute, with some arguments suggesting that any child born on U.S. soil, regardless of the nationality of their parents is a natural born citizen, while others argue that both, the father, mother and child must be born on U.S. soil to qualify. The President has reportedly spent upwards of $2 million dollars defending law suits questioning his eligibility status. Had he wanted to release these records to the public he would already have done so.

The questions surrounding the President’s Certificate of Live Birth, his refusal to release the original birth certificate,the millions spent on defending against law suites, and other inconsistencies surrounding the President’s history (like his college visit to Pakistan when US passport holders weren’t allowed to enter the country suggesting Obama would have had to have traveled as a citizen of another country, as well as suggestions by Michelle Obama and President Obama’s own grandmother that he was born in Kenya) continue to add fuel to the fire.

Perhaps the Governor could do us all a favor and finally put this to rest.

The “birthers,” as those seeking eligibility evidence have been called, would likely be satisfied with the release of an actual certified copy of Barrack H. Obama’s Birth Certificate, not his Certification of Live Birth.

It boils down to this: Either release the birth certificate, or there will always be Americans who question the President’s eligibility status. It’s that simple.
