Maybe mainstream Americans are cutting back on spending, but the same does not hold true for our elected representatives, especially Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi:

It reads like a dream order for a wild frat party: Maker’s Mark whiskey, Courvoisier cognac, Johnny Walker Red scotch, Grey Goose vodka, E&J brandy, Bailey’s Irish Crème, Bacardi Light rum, Jim Beam whiskey, Beefeater gin, Dewars scotch, Bombay Sapphire gin, Jack Daniels whiskey … and Corona beer.

But that single receipt makes up just part of the more than $101,000 taxpayers paid for “in-flight services” – including food and liquor, for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s trips on Air Force jets over the last two years. That’s almost $1,000 per week.

“Speaker Pelosi has a history of wasting taxpayer funds with her boorish demands for military travel,” Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton said today. “And these documents suggest the Speaker’s congressional delegations are more about partying than anything else.”

Perhaps it is time that the people of the states that send these politicians to Washington D.C. start covering the expenses of their representatives.

As disgusted and outraged as Americans from the other 49 states may be, there is no action they can take in order to curb the spending of a Senator or House Rep from another state. Forcing states to cover the expenses of their elected officials on the federal level will bring more accountability to the officials themselves.

If Californians are happy with Nancy Pelosi spending $2.1 million chartering military jets, $1000 a week on booze and filter mignon, or $4000 a day in Copenhagen, then they should be willing to pay for this with tax increases on property and goods within their own state.

We are not singling out Californians here, because clearly this is not limited to just one state. Representatives all over the country are doing the same thing, and they need to be held to account by the people who elected them.
