Ron Paul speaks on the House floor in Mayof 2009.

Excerpts from Ron Paul’s Current Conditions or Just a Bad Dream:

    (Video follows excerpts)

“Could it all be a bad dream, or a nightmare? Is it my imagination, or have we lost our minds? It’s surreal; it’s just not believable. A grand absurdity; a great deception, a delusion of momentous proportions; based on preposterous notions; and on ideas whose time should never have come; simplicity grossly distorted and complicated; insanity passed off as logic; grandiose schemes built on falsehoods with the morality of Ponzi and Madoff; evil described as virtue; ignorance pawned off as wisdom; destruction and impoverishment in the name of humanitarianism; violence, the tool of change; preventive wars used as the road to peace; tolerance delivered by government guns; reactionary views in the guise of progress; an empire replacing the Republic; slavery sold as liberty; excellence and virtue traded for mediocracy; socialism to save capitalism; a government out of control, unrestrained by the Constitution, the rule of law, or morality; bickering over petty politics as we collapse into chaos; the philosophy that destroys us is not even defined.

We have broken from reality–a psychotic Nation.”

    ———

“Of course, it could all be a bad dream, a nightmare, and that I’m seriously mistaken, overreacting, and that my worries are unfounded. I hope so. But just in case, we ought to prepare ourselves for revolutionary changes in the not-too-distant future.”

Whether you are a democrat, republican, or currently without party, you’ve got to admit that this man is a true statesman. One of maybe a handful that are left in America. One who actually cares more about the people than he does himself.

Honestly, I can’t think of any others off the top of my head, so comments are welcomed.

      1. I got the shivers. You are good people Mac, I hope Ron Paul succeeds. But after reading comments on various main stream media……I see that we are a minority. Thank goodness you do not have trolls on your site so far, it keeps me level and not upset. Keep it up dude…you are valued!!!

      2. The problem is too many people don’t want to face the truth !  I have tried to have conversations with some folks and all I get is : ” aw I don’t want to talk about that crap “  or  “  I don’t know anything about that . “  Until Mr. & Mrs. America want to get their colective heads out of the sand we will continue to slip deeper into the abyss . God help us all!!

      3. Man, I really wish I would have written him in on the ballot…

This is going to end very, very badly.

      4. This piece from Ron Paul really got me to thinking…. I listened to it a couple times and re-read a few times and I have come to the conclusion — and I know this may sound sappy — that Ron Paul actually feels pain about what he sees America becoming. He is a committed Constitutionalist, and he sees the Constitution and everything America stands for being torn apart. While Paul is an overall happy and seemingly fun-loving person, I think deep down, his heart cries for America and the idea that it was founded on, and the fact that the idea is being trampled on.

These are not just empty words. This man believes every word he says — unlike many of our politicians, who speak the party line or say what their special interests or talking points tell them to say.

This man is an original and a one-of-a-kind.

It’s sad that some consider him “too far right” or a little “wacky.”

I consider 99% of politicians a little wacky. This guy knows what he stands for and is not afraid to tell us.

He would never sell his soul, or America’s soul, just to get TV time, higher poll numbers or a special deal in the private sector when he leaves office.

Here are SHTF Plan, I think we (all of us that contribute and read) have a little bit of Ron Paul inside — we ache for the America that we grew up reading about — The America our founding fathers tried to create — and we see the dream slipping away, slowly but surely.

That’s why Paul’s words in this speech really resonate with me.

        —-
        On a lighter note…

Penna, thanks for the great comment — we do what we can here at SHTF. We just want to bring the news to readers’ attention, and slip in our commentary for good measure. I honestly don’t mind trolls — they can make the conversation fun and exciting! heh

Airborne — so true, so true…. Most people don’t want to talk about it, especially if they see evidence that is contrary to their position. Simply contemplating the possibility that things are not exactly as they see it can be very scary for most people. Nonetheless, reality will set in whether they want to stick their heads in the sand or not.

      5. Well said, Mac.

Paul is the real deal.  He’s not even a politician as far as I am concerned.  He’s just a man trying to help.

This is going to sound weird, but he reminds me of Cassandra from Greek mythology.

      6. I had to jump to Wikipedia for a brief history lesson on Cassandra… I read the stories, but I was never very motivated in english class, so I needed a quick refresher…

This almost decscribes Ron Paul to a T (except for the fact he is a HE and not a SHE):

“She is a figure both of the epic tradition and of tragedy, where her combination of deep understanding and powerlessness exemplify the tragic condition of humankind.”

Let’s hope Ron Paul is wrong — I’m sure he hopes he is. But like you said Rick — It seems that all the signs point to this ending very, very badly.

      7. Sometimes great things have to die or be taken away from us in order that we realize the truth of what we had… freedom is a catchphrase to most Americans.  The streets once gold are now lead. Regardless, a kernel of its greatness will always live on.

      8. “We have forgotten what made America good, great and prosperous.”

“We should prepare ourselves for revolutionary changes in the near future.”

In the presidential primary, even after this guy dropped out, I voted for him. The name was still on the ballot and I was literally drawn to him as if by some unseen force. The fixing of Americas ills is only two elections away. So is the complete destruction of it.

If we give the republicrats and democans a severe beating this fall by getting the numbers of (R) and (D) seats to be equal and then elect this man, Ron Paul as president in 2012 most of the problems we currently have would go away. Poof! Gone. You want hope an change? You want jobs? You want clean energy? You want a cleaner environment? In one year, Ron Paul leading a congress of the people could put us right back up to the top. The liberals would scream bloody murder because they’ve had this country for so long, lying their to power and lying to keep it that they would probaly leave the country. Hmm! Not a bad strategy.

Lets just fix this stuff. Back to the Constitution!

      9. @SR

After Octavian defeated Anthony and Cleopatra at the Battle of Actium it was not at all clear to the Roman citizens of the great republic that the Roman Empire was about to begin, and would continue for centuries.

Marching into Rome after the Battle of Actium, Octavian and Marcus Agrippa were elected as dual consuls by the Senate. Years of civil war had left Rome in a state of near lawlessness, but the Republic was not prepared to accept the control of Octavian as adespot.

In exactly the same way, Obama is not the first Emperor of the American Empire. But given the fact that he is so unpopular, he will most likely be followed by a ‘strong leader’ of some kind.

The next President of the US will most likely be the first Emperor in all but name, just as Vladimir Putin is the Tsar of Russia in all but name. Tsar, incidentally, meant ‘Caesar’.

Chalmers Johnson reckons the chances of saving the US from the transition to Empire are getting smaller and smaller.

Ron Paul is like the voice of Cicero in the Senate during the last days of the Roman Republic.

      10. This website is like a breath of fresh air … full of thoughtful, intelligent and insightful commentary.  It makes me feel hope, as though I am not alone and there are others out there that “get it”.

How do we get more people to “get it”.  I struggle with this all the time.   I do my best to educate, inform and point people to places where they can research and educate themselves … but normally it all falls on deaf and disinterested ears.

What will it take for Americans to break free of the main stream media conditioning.  Will it really take complete collapse of the system?  Why are so many people disinterested and blissfully uninformed?

The analogy of Ron Paul to Cassandra, “She is a figure both of the epic tradition and of tragedy, where her combination of deep understanding and powerlessness exemplify the tragic condition of humankind.”, makes me sad … for it rings far too true with all that is happening.

      11. The only time in many years when I voted *for* a candidate (and not just against his opponent) was in the 2008  presidential primaries when Ron Paul was on the ballot.  He is the only honest man in congress.
