The following analysis and commentary have been contributed by Karl Denninger and The Market Ticker. The result is ugly: the value of everything—including gold—falls, and even personal safety is at risk in a world where there is limited money even for essentials like food and fuel.
It’s not difficult to see this coming, if you bother to look.
There is no rule of law any more if you’re a government employee — or one of those protected by same.
Let’s put together just a partial list:
- Health care. Monopoly and/or cartel behavior of any sort is supposed to be illegal under 15 USC (Sherman and Clayton Acts) if market power exists. When you’re flat on your ass with a heart attack in process there is no market; ergo, it exists. Ditto when you were just stung by a scorpion, or when the so-called “treating facility” refuses to present you with a price before they have you on the operating table — and they told you that the operation was immediately necessary to save your health and/or life. That’s essentially all procedures except for elective, cosmetic ones — where there is actual competition and prices have fallen over time. All of this behavior, from charging $60,000 for two $100 vials of scorpion antivenom, charging someone $9,000 to bandage a finger or billing a routine $10-30 test at $10,000 is part and parcel of this, and in any unprotected line of business everyone involved would do 10 years of prison time and be fined $1 million each.
- Government agencies, such as the IRS and NSA. The number of times that have been documented in which perjury has been committed, a crime, (cough-Clapper-cough!) is too long to list. We now find out that in the IRS targeting investigation not only is there a backup of Lerner’s computer (as I originally asserted there had to be) but IRS lawyers admitted to the intentional destruction of the data on her BlackBerry after the investigation began. For you or I that would immediately result in an obstruction of justice felony charge leveled against everyone involved – including Lerner herself. Well, where is it?
- Education. Cartel behavior at its finest. You can find virtually any sort of knowledge and lectures on any topic you wish online nowdays. Yet without obtaining them at a price infinitely higher than those freely available, the exact same material I might add and often delivered by the exact same professors, your knowledge is deemed immaterial and worthless. This occurs due to cartel behavior between universities and businesses — again, something that should bring immediate prosecution under 15 USC. Well, where is it?
- Education again. Not content to try to force you to pay them something they also conspire to force you to pay more. Once you’re a captive sucker you get hammered on all sides; you are first told to file a FASFA in which your parents must disclose their assets and income, never mind that you’re an adult. Then, if you’re not poor, despite this being sold to you as being a means of obtaining “aid”, you are offered only loans, which are not aid at all. This particular cartel behavior includes the government as they will attempt to force you to file one even to claim things they say are earned, such as “Bright Futures” scholarships! Once you get to class it’s even worse; your son or daughter who paid the full price (and had to borrow the money and thus pay interest too!) is sitting next to a kid who paid little or nothing. How? Your son or daughter was effectively forced to buy his tuition! Communism at its finest, all at gunpoint.
- So-called “law enforcement.” Point a gun at another person when you are not legally permitted to shoot (e.g. to stop a forcible felony in process) and you are arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon (or aggravated assault in some jurisdictions.) The identical behavior was documented on video and still camera images all over Ferguson by the police; where are the indictments?
- Banks. Swindle someone out of $10,000 and it’s grand theft, extortion, fraud or any one of a dozen other crimes, all serious felonies. Hell, all you have to do is a pass a bad check in many jurisdictions to wind up on the wrong end of a felony indictment! It has been proved that myriad large banks sold securities to customers representing them as “good investments” when in fact their own internal emails document that their staff called them “vomit” (and other similar names) — that is, they knew they were worthless. Where are the indictments?
- The Federal Reserve. The Federal Reserve Act specifically charges the FOMC with regulating both money and credit so as to maintain stableprices, moderate long term interest rates and maximum employment. Maximum employment may be a loosely-defined goal as may “moderate” long-term interest rates but stable is not a fuzzy word. The Federal Reserve has willfully and intentionally violated this mandate serially since its inception. You have about 3-4% of your earnings power stolen every single year as a consequence. Where are the indictments?
- Ben Bernanke has admitted that (in his view) virtually all systemically important financial firms were on the edge of collapse in 2008. This, he cites, is justification for his extraordinary policy moves. There’s a problem — his mandate is to regulate said money and credit systems all the time, not just in a crisis. That filing is an admission that both he and the NY Fed failed to do so; that is, they failed to perform their statutory duty. Why aren’t both he and Tim Geithner in prison, seeing as he made this admission before a court in a sworn filing?
Here’s the problem with this sort of behavior and the protection of same: Civility in general only exists because you, I, and most of the rest of society willingly conform our behavior to the law.
There are not enough cops, no matter what sort of badge and uniform they wear, to enforce the law otherwise. If any material percentage of the population decides to behave as these people in their protected circumstances have and do the entirety of law and order collapses instantly.
Well, why is it that you permit the above to occur? Why did you allow it to develop? Why do you still allow it?
And how long will it before all of this theft and fraud renders you unable to keep your head above water?
Let me explain that for you: For most people you’re already unable.
Look at the stock market, as one example. There is more margin debt outstanding than cash in accounts as of today, and in fact this margin is worse than ever before in history (yes, even worse than in 2007.) In other words, but for the claimed paper value of said certificates the market is factually bankrupt right now on a gross, “every man” basis!
Almost 20% of the gross domestic product of this nation (that is, everything produced) is siphoned off by the health care “system” with its grift, extortion and abuse. That’s nearly one dollar in five! A look at other developed, first-world nations (e.g. Japan) discloses that we should be able to buy our health care for somewhere between 1/10th and 1/5th of what we pay today. Were that to be the case there would be no need for Medicare, Medicaid or health insurance — Obamacare or otherwise! Medicare is a great example; you’re responsible for 20% of the cost, by default, and you must pay a premium to the government. But if your care was anywhere from 1/5th to 1/10th of today’s price you would actually pay less than the co-pay and deductible you pay today and you wouldn’t pay any premium at all! In other words, even for the old guy or gal that currently is “on the dole” and allegedly “getting something” you’d be better off financially without Medicare were all of these acts to be prosecuted instead of protected! Whether you’re rich, poor, young or retired, this scam steals from you each and every day without delivering any more value than it would without the theft.
Take the scam out of education and the cost collapses. Now you could flip pizzas to pay for college as you could in the 1970s and early 80s before those schemes were instituted. Prosecute The Federal Reserve Board and Banks and the price of assets, including houses would collapse — probably by 75% or more. Not only does this mean you could buy a house for far less but for those who choose not to or who can’t rents would come down by 3/4 as well!
Why do you need Section 8 and other similar programs when your cost of housing is cut to a tiny fraction of what it is today?
You don’t!
If you believe that the cost of food hasn’t skyrocketed in the last five years you’re not paying attention. It has. Ditto for energy. Oh yes, those are “excluded” from “inflation” numbers, but you have to buy them anyway.
So what happens when you can’t make the income balance against the outflow? You borrow money in some form or fashion.
Yet that simply puts you further in the hole.
And that’s what’s been going since roughly 1980:
Of course borrowing against nothing, that is, creating credit with nothing behind it, looks good initially because it makes it appear you can keep buying things. Unfortunately that credit comes with both a requirement to repay it and interest; the latter is a huge problem because over time it compounds just as do earnings.
The usual chestnut is that borrowing stimulates production and is of net benefit. But the facts are that when borrowing accumulates faster than output that assertion is proved false; what is really going on is that people are borrowing to either consume or speculate. The former permanently destroys value and the latter leaves you exposed to instant insolvency since the alleged “price” of what you speculate on has been disconnected from its value and is now largely (or even entirely!) predicated only on what someone else will pay.
The majority opinion appears to be that as long as you can get your little piece of the grift, whether it be Medicare, Food Stamps, Section 8 or a rising stock market it’s all ok. Ask yourself — is that actually true or are you deluding yourself? Are you falling behind despite getting your little piece of the grift or are you getting ahead? What about your children? Are they able to get ahead? Is the same sort of investment you made 20 or 30 years ago credible as a means for them to obtain results similar or superior to what you obtained, or are they staring down a black hole of indebtedness while pulling coffees at Starbucks? How about that “new car”; nearly $40,000 today as a “median” price and loan terms extending toward eight years — when just a little while ago the normal term was four. How’s the job market in your area? More importantly than the number of jobs — how’s the pay and how does that compare against the increase in health care, food, fuel and insurance expenses you must pay every day just to remain solvent?
Think about it for a while.
Then once again contemplate this: For how long as you going to allow all of the above to continue? Will you allow it to continue right up until civility is lost entirely or will you demand that it stop and that those committing these acts face the same charges and penalties that you or I would for the same offenses?

tldr; But no question we are headed towards an epic fireworks show. You don’t need to be a genius, mathematician,financial expert. Experiencing horrible things that can happen in a war – death of parents and

1. Stockpiling helps. but you never no how long trouble will last, so locate
near renewable food sources.
2. Living near a well with a manual pump is like being in Eden.
3. After awhile, even gold can lose its luster. But there is no luxury in war
quite like toilet paper. Its surplus value is greater than gold’s.
4. If you had to go without one utility, lose electricity – it’s the easiest to
do without (unless you’re in a very nice climate with no need for heat.)
5. Canned foods are awesome, especially if their contents are tasty without
heating. One of the best things to stockpile is canned gravy – it makes a lot of
the dry unappetizing things you find to eat in war somewhat edible. Only needs
enough heat to “warm”, not to cook. It’s cheap too, especially if you buy it in
bulk.
6. Bring some books – escapist ones like romance or mysteries become more
valuable as the war continues. Sure, it’s great to have a lot of survival
guides, but you’ll figure most of that out on your own anyway – trust me, you’ll
have a lot of time on your hands.
7. The feeling that you’re human can fade pretty fast. I can’t tell you how many
people I knew who would have traded a much needed meal for just a little bit of
toothpaste, rouge, soap or cologne. Not much point in fighting if you have to
lose your humanity. These things are morale-builders like nothing else.

KyMom, Nice list, but if I may say, one item that you should stay away from and I still use it because my camp stove and lanterns are old and will only use “Coleman Fuel”. I tried to stock pile it once and those thin metal cans will rust out an leak your fuel away, also that stuff now cost almost 13 dollars a gallon at Wal-Mart. May be cheaper to buy new equipment. The “actual number of (Ebola) cases could already be two to four times higher than the reported 3,069. The death toll stands at 1,552.”

Spray those metal cans of fuel with a clear poly coating…
It will dramatically lengthen the shelf life.
I use this method on unopened cans of boat stove alcohol.
Once opened, you can transfer to plastic isopropyl alcohol containers that you saved. It’s what I’ve been doing for decades and it works.
J- Great tip ! Had numerous Coleman Fuel containers never opened that contents literally vanished. Will pick up poly TODAY !

Let dry completely…very important! 24hrs…minimum…
Then turn upside down… support with wooden block on opposite side of cap to make level…
Then give the bottom a double dose!
Paint preservation:
After opening and using ANY kind of paint or varnish…
Without taking deep breath…normal breathing…
Exhale into can JUST before putting the lid on it…
You push out most of the oxygen…
I have reopened cans after nearly a decade…no skin!

I just switched to propane and got a converter hose to use my 20 pound grill tanks. The little tanks are about 10 dollars for a 4 pack at Sams club. but i can get a 20 pound tank filled for 13.75 at BJ’s Wholesale. and i can run my Coleman items for a very long time on it. from Coleman stoves to heaters they all work great. Also propane is a very stable fuel source and burns cleaner than others. It does not have the power that gas has but it works well for cooking and heating. I don’t recommend it for generators. Gas is better for that its much more efficient. On the note of small engines and generators. I have been talking to a small engine mechanic and he recommended to me to treat all my gas with Seafoam. It keeps the needles in the carborators lubed up and not sticking. During Sandy he cleaned so many generators he smelled like gas for a month because people left bad gas in there generators.
You can get a filler attachment at harbor freight to fill 1lb from large tanks.

Don’t throw away that Coleman stove just yet. Coleman fuel or “white gas” as it used to be called, is nothing more than very low octane gasoline with no additives. We used to buy it right at the Sunoco station as a kid.
You can buy the lowest octane gas you can find and use it in your stove. It will still have a few additives in it but will work. You may find that you need to pull the generator every so often to clean it but that’s not hard to do.
JRS, I remember the white gas well, when I was a young teen my dad had a Skelly Station and sold white gas. Don’t guess white gas is still around, must have stopped making it when they removed lead from gas at the pump. So I can use the lowest octane gas in my old lanterns and cook stove? Short Story About The White Gas, My Dad had that Skelly station and had a trash barrel out back, and there was a old muffler with a piece of tail pipe on it, so I would get a cup of that gas and pour it in the tail pipe and drop a match down the pipe and it made a real cool flame thrower. So I did it one time and nothing happened and I leaned over to look down the pipe, guess what! Lost my eye lashes, eye brows and the hair off of the front of my head. Trekker Out. i remember loosing my eye lashes one time when i was younger ,i went to a party and got hammered ,then woke up the next day with no eye lashes ,well aparently i was lighting my cigerettes off a gas stove ,in RE: to the flame thrower ,we used to put alcohol in an old canteen ,shake it around and put a match at the top it would blow a nice blue flame and sound like a train whistle ,it was fun till my older brother dropped it and caught the bed on fire

I’ve been doing that for years with the old “pump-style” coleman stoves. My dad taught me to use unleaded gas and gently agitate the tank before you put it back on. I have NEVER once used the coleman fuel, in a coleman stove, in my entire life. I don’t think I’ve ever even bought a can of it.

Food cooking have plenty of wood,for lamps kerosene works fine and can fill fuel jugs with it,both items can/will attract attention so obviously use wisely.
Kerosene goes stale; you can’t stockpile it. Ditto gasoline. That’s why I got a Kelly Kettle.

Sharonsj, you made a smart move with the Kelly Kettle. I bought one last March and fell in love with it. All you need for fuel is pine needles, twigs, leaves; “nature’s fuel” you might say. When I first tried mine, I managed to boil a pot of water in only 3 minutes. That’s faster than my old Coleman propane stove will do. I bought the base camp model. I wouldn’t have anything else now.
Another on with a storm kettle – my Grand dad had one and used to send me collecting twigs and moss as a young child. If you are careful to ensure they don’t burn dry they can last a life time, mine is over a decade old and will be handed down to my son when my time comes.
Apart from the fuel aspect, I love the fact that they don’t go out in rain storms and the like. Use a bent wire coat hanger as a pot holder with your existing pots and pans to keep the costs of your purchase down.

That’s pretty much the way I see it. My grandparents taught me a lot about prepping. They went through the great depression and WWII and knew how to make things stretch and eat on little money.
All my life growing up, my grandparents had a closed off, locked up room and locker down in their basement. We were taught never to mess with it. Never understood why but just did was we were told.
Years later when my grandma passed to join my grandpa, we went down to the basement and busted the lock off. To my surprise we found hundreds of canned food, lanterns, oil, radios, flashlights with batteries in a makeshift faraday cage, blankets, and much more. In the locker we found grandpa’s guns.
We bought kerosene cooking stoves from St Paul Mercantile. You can buy kerosene at the pump at some farm supply stores. Here in NE Wisconsin it’s about $4.50 a gallon last time I checked. It’s more expensive than gasoline but much safer to work with.

For consideration – Kerosene stoves and fuel are safe and burn clean and fuel is easy to store, same for lamps that burn oil. A second hand 55 gallon drum would set you back about $10.
NB: My husband would sometimes put helicopter fuel in our diesel car (supposedly similar to kerosene) Not sure if you can use in stoves, can anyone comment on that aspect.

Expat… get a plastic 55 gal drum and run the downspout of your roof into it… near the top, on a side, cut a hole in it big enough to run a drain out of so that when the drum is near full the new rain will have a place to flow out of. And make sure you get a lid for it… mosquito’s. Also, when you want flushable water you can just dip it out but under the lid is a little spider heaven. I’m in Ohio and here it’s Black Widow spider territory. Not hard to deal with when you know it’s gonna be a problem. Dedicated gloves is what I used.
As per fuel… I used to work as a mechanic at an airport and we had old fuel trucks for gassing the planes that constantly needed worked on… consequently we had a lot of “jet fuel” that was considered “contaminated” and unsafe for use. We sold it back then for $5 a 55 gal drum and people used it in kerosene heaters all over. It just burns a little cleaner and a little hotter.
Propane is great… I used it on an old RV stove I brought into my kitchen and ran a hose through the wall so I could have a stove and an oven. But propane is relatively expensive compared to wood and kerosene and sunlight. So it is actually a luxury… and when TSHTF luxury’s go first. Cooking on a woodstove is a reality. Cooking with a microwave for 2 minutes requires less gas in the gen than cooking on a propane stove for the same meal. Always wanted to try one of these gasifiers… here’s a video. JohnR, thanks for the info on fuel. You’ll notice I didn’t say “Jet Fuel”as I wasn’t sure if the same fuel was used in jets as in helicopters.
Anyway, it’s just another source for people to consider.
As for the plastic drum on the roof – grew up with a little different easier concept – A tank, probably 500 gals raised about 12′ on a platform, so water flowed down to the house when needed. The barrels (metal,no plastic available when & where I was) were covered with muslin to keep out mosquitoes and was used for garden, animals and washing – yes in a tub with a wash board, a rude awakening for some.
These are some of the hard realities that will have to be endured and there are those for whom it’s far fetched.
The first thing to go in an economic collapse are services like electricity,water, gas; not to mention shortages of necessities due to curtailed supply chain.
“Just in time” will be a fleeting memory.
I’m lucky my food comes from 5-15 at the most miles away, all fresh, non-GMO & organic, grows all year, enough fresh water to supply my city for 300 years and little to no heat needed in the homes. For this I had to give up all the luxuries and go back to basics.
To survive this calamity people will need to start learning how their grand parents or great grand parents lived. Or ask the people of Bosnia, Argentina and of course Zimbabwe how they live day to day, then multiply it by 10. Good luck all.
I did 3 years off grid in Ohio. The above list is pretty good but I didn’t see a microwave stove in there… if you’ve got a generator, it only takes 2 minutes of running it to have boiling water or hot food. Another is a coffee press… nothing quite like quick, good coffee. I stocked up on rechargeable batteries and battery chargers. I ran my gen about 20 minutes a day to recharge the water system in the house (well pump) and during those 20 minutes I also charged batteries as well… and quite a few of them, all sizes. The limit is based on the size of the gen and how many battery chargers you can plug into it at the same time. Also, a couple of auto battery chargers (non-computer style) charging a couple of batteries (preferably truck or boat but car will do) helps too especially if you can get some of the new 12volt led light bulbs. In the winter I did the woodstove thing… get a log splitter. A stack of, oh around 8″ to 10″ rocks. Put the rocks on the stove so they heat up, at night wrap them in towels and throw them in the bed with you… they’ll hold heat for hours and hours. I also had the $199 Harbor Freight solar panel set and in Ohio… it would charge up my laptop (great for watching movies in the DVD player)(I used battery operated external speakers) and my cell phone… which I also used as my internet gateway. And just one more thing I can think of right off the bat… bug killer! You most definitely want some kind of bug killer… and handi wipes. When you can’t get to a shower, you can use handi wipes. And another.. a garden hose, filled with water and laying in the sun will give you hot water… the longer the hose, the more water. I snaked about 100′ of it on the roof in loops and it was enough to give me a real quicky warm shower, while the suns up.

Whodunit, but MOST of the people at the top, wno have a big income– are parasites!!! that’s what I’ve observed, anyhow, in my own little sphere of friends, acquaintances, and co-workers: the ONLY ones doing well (almost without exception) are the psychopaths, who steal even from their own mother!

I’ve noticed, in my own little sphere, that the crooks (those who steal from others and/or are engaged in illegal activities) have done quite well for themselves the last few years– stealing and lieing as they go. But those of us who are not so materialistic– who do not steal and lie, who strive to do the right thing– we are barely surviving!!
One other thing I’d like to mention… there’s a ton of old RV’s out there and in them they have a lot of items that can be used for living off grid… like… a refrigerator that works off either 110v elec., 12v elec., and propane! They also have 12v light fixtures in them, propane mini furnaces, 12 v fans and many still have the old Onan Generators in them which are great and dependable and rebuild-able generators. And, let’s not forget the propane mini stove/ovens. They usually also have 12v to 110v inverters in them, but the new ones use so much less electricity to convert the 12 to the 110 that it’s better to just get one of the newer ones.
The fridge’s are repairable IF (notice the big IF) the ammonia parts are still good. Otherwise they cost too much to fix. A quick test is to open the door and smell… if you smell ammonia then you don’t want it.
And it’s hard to beat bleach for a cheap cleanser /disinfectant.
In wells, I used to pour about a third of a bottle (gal) into the well every month or so to kill the bacteria in the water (if your well smells bad, then it needs disinfecting). Don’t drink the water afterwards for a couple of days and don’t over bleach. I once took the advice of a County employee who said to put 2 1/2 bottles (gal.) in the well to disinfect… showers were brutal for a week and my pubic hair got so brittle they almost broke! If you need drinking water immediately, fill a pitcher or a pan and leave it sit out for at least a couple of hours… the bleach will dissipate off. When you can’t smell it then it’s safe to try it… but taste it first and if it tastes like bleach leave it sit longer until it doesn’t. Swimming pool strength is swallow-able… remember swimming pools and the smell and taste?

I fear that as Americans who have grown up in the late 20th & early 21st century, it’s unfathomable to not have electricity – which means – no lights, fridge, electronics, water in some cases – electric pumps and more.
We need to start thinking early 20th century lifestyle and prepare in that mode.
I can’t begin to tell you how many people I talk to who thinks when/if SHTF that they can still go to Starbucks every morning because – “IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN HERE”

Theology isn’t Jesus. Theology is our current “church”. I quit going years ago. It was a poor excuse for what Jesus has to say. The petty infighting and lack of grace was beyond my ability to deal with. I am a messy Christian that’s for sure. Gods Grace is all I have going for me.

Granny, I have to agree about the churches. I grew up in the Southern Baptist church so I can speak with some authority on this subject. I first started seeing these things in church as a teenager back in the 70s so I dropped out of church before finishing high school. Never stepped into another church since then. I call them “501c3 whorehouses”.
Baptist? Well, there you go. Find a good historic church. One that uses a liturgy….Orthodox, Reformed Anglican (think C.S. Lewis), Lutheran, etc…I almost want to stab myself in the eye when my ‘baptist’ friends talk ‘Jesus’. They cheapen it and dumb it down just like the public school system. Honestly, I. couldn’t. take. it. anymore. So, we left. It is hilarious when an old friend visits us at our ‘new’ church (REC) because, GASP!, we KNEEL, like the Catholics!!! Shudder the thought of kneeling to pray! How….could we? Like we fell from grace or something. No, we were just tired of the whole way it was ‘done’ with little if any real meaning or understanding. Also, SICK of having our kids told to go to a different church than mom or dad. GOOD GRIEF!!! Like the high schoolers or ‘mommies’ teaching ‘Sunday School’ have some theology degree and are better suited to teaching our children.

Yeah. This is a HAUTE button for me. I never knew true worship and peace as I have in the last few years in a church that uses a real liturgy and The Book of Common Prayer throughout the service, a service that really speaks to the fact that our God is no commoner. I love His mystery. I never thought I would understand this whole, not understanding.

THAT was a defining moment in my life,
the burden that was lifted from my shoulders, the guilt that had been preached to me gone, the realization that I had a relationship with God all along and that the only one who went away was me, I keep that conscious contact in my daily life and all is well.

That depends on your situation and how prepared you are to handle an attacking mob. When faced with an angry mob alone, my objective is not to sacrifice myself in the first wave trying to boldly singlehandedly stop the attacking mob with my Colt .45. That is stupid by any comparison. When faced with a mob you have two choices, stand your ground and die, or withdraw, save your weapons, ammunition, and resources until such time an effective resistance can be formed to counter the mob.

Ballistically it is equal to 7.62×39 , use the new soft tipped rounds ( hornaday) made for tube magazine loading it greatly improves accuracy. There is not a lot to go wrong with a Winchester 98 or Marlin 336. Ideal close quarter brush gun in the right hands .(use a lyman rear peep site ) And no magazines to loose. ( it’s the cats ass in 45-70! There was a SOG guy in Nam that used one for bunker shooting in 444 marlin google , Mad Dog Shriver)
Match that up with a S&W model 27 in 357 and you are good for low profile back country survival.

What is a “brush gun” I’ve heard that term before and it was in reference to my 30-30.

What it means is a 30-30 is not necessarily meant to be a long range gun, and the 30-30 rifle works well in the short range shooting, and punching through the Brush to the target. When I Deer Hunted up in Wisconsin, we did a lot of team driving through the swamps. trying to kick deer out to those people standing on point on the edges. I loved to get right into the swamp water up to my knees, with hip boots on, breaking ice, fighting the thickets in the bogs, collecting burrs, cause I know that is where the deer are all hiding. And yes I carried a 30-30 and shot some nice deer less than 15 yards away in the Brush of the swamp and marshes. I have a lot of fond memories deer hunting with my father. I was pretty good at stalking through the woods barely making any sound and would jump deer all the time. And my 30-30 Brush Rifle rewarded me many times.
Can be the actual model name of a rifle but usually a gun folks would use in brush/woods to hunt deer ect.,usually close range shots (say 150 max yards roughly)instead of saying long range elk/mountain goat,a rifle that is not too heavy or long to carry in said conditions all day while hunting if necc.,that is what brush gun means to me anyhow.In the end I guess it means any gun someone would use in woods they are comfortable with for hunting.

I’m with the author absent the section 8 no longer needed if housing prices go down. The obvious outcome would be the opposite. Housing drives a large part of the economy and the fact housing is gamed doesn’t support the arguement. Section 8 participants pay a none or a small percentage of the rent. Two things would happen. Insofar as the FAFSA is concerned, you are correct that it requires disclosure of your parent’s assets. However, this requirement does go away once you turn 25. The cost of college today is truly obscene. I’m an adult returning to finish a degree I started way too long ago and for the one class I needed to complete my general education requirements it cost me $500 ! That’s for a basic, 3 credit hour course that essentially teaches you to use MS Office. I’m terrified of what it will cost me when I transfer to the state university system. I do qualify for grants($1500/yr, if memory serves), but at these prices they won’t go nearly far enough. Worse still, I found out that if you take out student loans you have six months after graduation before you are required to start paying. However, if you start paying before that, while still in school, you forfeit the deferment. So the only real choice you have is to let the interest accrue while seeking your degree. Think you can just save the money in the bank and pay off a big lump sum when you get past that six month mark? Think again. If you put any real money away then you lose your grants the next time you do the FAFSA (due once a year). So, you are discouraged from working while in school and essentially a debt slave when you get out. My sister is significantly younger than me and is finishing her degree right now. Her student loan debt is larger than my mortgage. I hope to avoid that fate, but it will still put me in $10-20k worth of debt by the time I am done if I defer 100% of the cost. Fortunately though, the engineering degree I am seeking will pay that off fairly quickly since I am used to living on little and using barter and trade to get a lot of things done. Plus, I am very skilled when it comes to fixing and repurposing things that most of society throws away.
I think the idea of student loans is to in-debt the loanee in such a way that they will forever be a debt slave to the government. It’s another way for government to exercise power and control over you.
With a private loan you could file bankruptcy, not so with a government loan. They have given it the same protection from bankruptcy as they have a tax debt.

Today a college degree is worth less than a high school diploma was in the 1960,s. College degrees are a common as tree leaves. There are not enough jobs. You would be prudent to spend that college money on preps. The promised pot of gold at the end of the education rainbow is a big lie.
Maybe, but I want to live too. For me, living every day like it’s the end of the world is like a living death. I still have hopes and dreams and one of them has always been to study engineering. Even if it in debts me for the rest of my life I will enjoy the learning process. As it is now, I work in food service and have one of the last full time jobs left in my field. Corporate policy is that once I leave, I will be replaced with two part time workers. All of the other companies of my kind have already eliminated all of the full time positions for people doing my kind of work due to Obamacare. Without furthering my education I know that eventually I will be out of options. One good slip up and I am out a job and unable to replace it with another of commensurate income. I am not in bad health, but am old enough that I have back problems and can’t do intense physical labor, so most trades are out of the question. Besides, I am not a good fit with the sort of people who do that kind of work, so my life is miserable and lonely.
I know two brothers who where engineers. The worked for a big company in Milwaukee Wis for several decadeds. Their jobs where outsourced to India Via the internet. They are now driving semi truck. Could not find a engineering job anyplace. Its a world wide labor market. Not to dash your dreams but you need to face the facts the whole world is in decline. There are fewer & fewer good jobs every day. Do this pretend you already have that degree. Send out reseumes. See if there are jobs. Those who tout Educatoin Education!!!. Those proponets are in the education business they must constantly recruit students to enable their parasitic lifestyle. So they lie about the good high paying careers you can achieve by paying through the nose for a worthless scrap of paper. get your education in the field of Know How & self reliance. Two buisnesses you can make a go of and start cheaper than what college cost . One is commercial & residental heat & air. And another is Auto upholstery. Neither one requires hard physical labor. You will have plenty of work and set your own wages.
Truck driving is my fallback plan. I have a friend who is an owner/operator that I could team up with if need be. However, I think I would rather avoid that fate as I see it as a miserable existence. I’ll do it if I have to, but to me it’s the same as suicide as it will mean that I finally have forfeited my hopes and dreams and am just waiting to be put in a coffin under six feet of earth.
I drove truck off & on for 40 years. It paid the bills fed housed & clothed my family. It wasn’t so terrible. I actually enjoyed most of it. When I was in my forties I was a Heavy Hauler I moved the big over weight over with & over length loads and up & down the steep mountain grades. It was a job very few could do. It took skill & a proper mental attitude. Out of the weather in a heated and later years a air cond cab. I pretty much came & went as I wanted as long as my boss made money & the job was done on time. I have a pletoria of stories every trip was a potential adventure. I think Getting stuck in a rut of You must have a certain item or career is self defeating. You in my opinion have a flawed core concept.
I talked to a friend of mine recently, he stated the changes in his neighborhood lately have become apparent and quick. I don’t know if the changes were happening before he got fired from his job, or that now he has more time to observe. but drug dealers across the street, and prostitutes don’t spring up over night in most general areas. it usually takes time for that seed to take root.
he mentioned ‘white flight’ in the conversation, something he was trying to avoid for himself and family, but now he is having doubts about his decision.

At what price will the oil be affordable to the world economies? We are already seeing near zero growth world wide because the people cannot afford the price of oil. They cut back on discretionary purchases and save their money for utilities, heat and gas to get to work.
When spending on discretionary is cut, real people lose real jobs and they also cut their spending. Then you have what we have now…demand destruction and a downward spiral in the economy.
The Central banks can print all the money they want and keep their rates at zero percent but when there is no net energy return or profit in extracting the oil, it will stay in the ground.

All of the doctors offices I go to here, the local hospital, and other health care providers in my area have all been bought out by one big corporation. They own hospitals and health care providers all over Virginia also. If there’s only one hospital in town, there’s no competition. It is a monopoly.
The mailman here won’t get fired. Even the other mailmen nicknamed him “DAD” (dumb as dirt). He delivers mail to the incorrect addresses almost every day. That’s a crime right there.

Aaah. Another person who thinks totally free market capitalism is pure sunshine and lollipops. Yes, the market may well adjust it again at some time in the future, but that does little to help those who need immediate care. If you were just in a car accident, you can’t well shop around for someone to stop the bleeding at a lower cost now can you? No, you are forced to use whatever hospital you are brought to (at a cost of $50 per mile for an ambulance staffed by $10/hr EMTs) lest you die. Thus, they have you by the balls and you must pay their price. Included in that price is the cost of everyone the hospital must treat by law that cannot afford to pay and doesn’t care about damage to their credit or being sued. It also includes the cost of malpractice insurance for the hospital and everyone involved in your treatment. Thus, the system is screwed until all of these dynamics can be taken care of. Obamacare tried to take care of it by forcing the uninsured to buy insurance, but guess what? After a year of that misery the uninsured rate is about the same as it was before-16%. Only now that 16% (of which I am one) are forced to pay a fine for not being able to afford coverage, further reducing the financial resources at their disposal to pay for care. A better solution would have been single payer but then that’s a bad idea too. It would have insured everyone but done nothing meaningful to control costs. At best it would be limited care and at worst eugenics.
Things are more the way they are now than they have ever been before.
If you don’t learn from your past you are doomed to repeat it……doesn’t matter your views, we are in for a huge awakening. Sadly, most are still sleeping and happy to be oblivious to what’s happening. As long as they are happy they don’t care.

This is true: anyone who is in the military or works in security/secret services already knows this. Denninger says the average person borrows to either consume or speculate. I don’t believe anybody borrows money (other than the already rich) to speculate. But we do end up putting things we need on a credit card. If my car breaks down and I need $350 to fix it and I don’t have the money–but I need to fix the car so I won’t be stranded or left without a way to get to work– I’m going to use a credit card and go into debt. I will be able to pay off that $350 over time.
Denninger says a lot of things, but it’s from the perspective of an angry rich guy who makes his money from the stock market. When I pointed out that the global financial network gets rich off the misery and sometimes death of the less fortunate, I was banned from his website. After all, I was telling people NOT to buy stocks, which would cut into Denninger’s profits.
I still say people need to buy tangible assets, like property, jewelry–anything that you can use to live. Stock certificates are not real life.

We spoke with a 72 year old white guy yesterday. Until we told him a month ago that whites in America only made up a little over 50% of the US population, he was shocked. He had no idea that there had been a change in the US demographics downward from 90%. Hispanics are the second largest demographic in the US, but if you watch television, you won’t see very many Hispanics there. Why? It appears TPTB don’t want to wake up the general public. A sleeping victim is an easy victim.
… but you DO see a far greater proportion of blacks represented that their 13% share of the population demographic. Not that I’m racist. Just a word to the wise. Use a rocket stove for cooking your meals and heating water. It uses a 10th of the wood approximately that most wood fired stoves or fires use. Also a rocket stove mass heater will keep you warm all night long with only a handful of kindling. You tube is full of videos on this stuff and they are as inexpensive or costly as you want. Hope this sinks in!!!
I saw a FEMA big rig turning off Military Highway near Greenbrier in Norfolk/Chesapeake, VA late this afternoon. The trailer was old and gray all over with no markings. The cab was white and had “FEMA Disaster Relief” on the door.
That is the “camp bus”,just practicing the route for picking up campers now so they can set the schedules and folks not left waiting at end of the drive.A poster here keeps bringing up what they think are plastic coffins,as I have said before,these are just giant cake molds so there is plenty of “Welcome to camp fema cake”when the campers arrive.

I’m prepping to go without a generator. I don’t have the means to store gas until the end of the world, and I feel that running a generator and having gas storage could make me more of a target. I dug out and prepared a root cellar and will be using this to keep things cool. I’m going to prepare two hidden places underground to keep my food too. Take everything out of boxes so they don’t have bar codes or anything on them and store them in something else.
We’ve been buying candles for the past two years, batteries, and oil lanterns. Now we’re making our own giant candles to handle living with no electricity.
Been putting together our own means to generate heat as well with the pot/foil/tealight candle method. We tested it last winter and it works very well.
I have a bug out strategy, but we prefer to take our stand here where we live.
