Who’s Responsible For The Latest Attack on America’s Power Grid?

grid-attack-2

Last Wednesday, a small power station in Nogales, Arizona was the site of a mysterious bomb attack that left no injuries, nor any witnesses. The assailant(s) broke into the facility sometime between 4pm Tuesday and 8 am Wednesday, and planted a small incendiary device on the valve of a 50,000 gallon diesel tank. The device managed to burn the surface of the steel, but failed to ignite the fuel inside the container. If they had succeeded it could have disrupted power for 30,000 people.

The FBI is currently investigating the attack, but have no leads as far as we know. There were no signs of vandalism that are often left behind by environmental terrorists, who would normally be suspected in an electrical grid attack. The FBI is currently looking into several other incidents that were reported earlier this year:

“On Thursday, law-enforcement officials said the FBI was looking at past suspicious incidents in the area, citing one near Sahuarita, north of Nogales. In that incident, someone was reported to be trying to cut power lines, law-enforcement officials said.

On Feb. 9, target shooters near a substation in that area were seen on security cameras, causing alarm. Police and the utility’s security officers traveled to the site to ask the shooters to move along, but they were gone when police arrived, Salkowski said.”

This incendiary attack has officials worried after a similar incident was reported at a power substation in San Jose earlier this year. The attack was initially considered to be a case of vandalism until more details were exposed to the public, nearly 10 months after the fact.

Rather than a bomb, the San Jose attack turned out to be a frighteningly coordinated shooting. It’s estimated that 6 individuals approached the facility late at night armed with AK-47′s, and opened fire, but not before sneaking onto the property and disabling the alarm system. The attackers managed to disrupt a total of 10 transformers, and escaped just before police arrived. Investigators would later find more evidence of just how professional the attack was:

“After walking the site with PG&E officials and FBI agents, Mr. Wellinghoff said, the military experts told him it looked like a professional job. In addition to fingerprint-free shell casings, they pointed out small piles of rocks, which they said could have been left by an advance scout to tell the attackers where to get the best shots.”

On the surface, this recent attack doesn’t appear to have as much in common with the shooting in San Jose. The suspects didn’t use firearms and they failed to disrupt the facility as much as the San Jose incident. The facility they attacked was merely a backup power producer for peak hours, not a major substation. What they do have in common is a little more startling though.

Both attacks reveal the possibility of scouting and probing the property before the attack, in this case armed individuals were seen in the area several months before, and it was reported that someone was trying to cut power lines nearby in a separate case. Both attacks involved assailants infiltrating the facility after hours and despite the coordination of the attacks, neither succeeded in disrupting the power supply in any meaningful way. And of course both incidents involved cheap and relatively low tech weapons to destroy this expensive equipment. Neither incident left the traditional calling signs of a terrorist group.

Let’s play devils advocate for a moment, and assume the possibility that both attacks were perpetrated by the same organization (and given the multiple individuals involved in the San Jose attacks, it is definitely an organization of some kind). The coordination and lack publicity from any terrorist groups seems to imply, at least in my mind, that this is state sponsored. If they were sponsored by some foreign state, they certainly had the means to do way more damage and disrupt the power supply in a big way. So Why didn’t they?

I suspect these attacks are probing missions. While the American power grid is incredibly vulnerable, it is still massively complicated. If someone were attempting to bring it down, they need to know its ins and outs, and they need know where it is most vulnerable. They need to know how difficult it is to bypass the security of these facilities. They need to develop a map of all of our power plants, substations, power lines etc. Heck, they may even pull off minor attacks of little consequence, just so the news may give them more information on the facility.

Since this organization appears to be fairly low budget, they have to figure out how they can destroy the grid with the fewest number of attacks. There certainly exists a handful of locations that if disrupted, could eliminate the power supply for millions of Americans, if not everyone in the country. These perpetrators are not yet ready to pull off such an operation. They need to see what happens, on the small scale at first, when certain parts of the grid are damaged or disabled.

I’ll admit, I could be making a few leaps with these conclusions, and I’m no stranger to paranoia. There isn’t nearly enough evidence to prove these attacks are related. But if I’m wrong, that means there may be several unrelated groups interested in destroying our power supply. If you ask me, that might be even more worrisome.

I’d love to hear from anyone with more expertise than myself, such as power company employees, military, police etc. Share your thoughts in the comments below.

    Spool up canned religious rants…

    • Would you prefer a free range Religious rant? That canned stuff gets old.

Oh, by the way your post is basically asking for it, so you must want the ranting. Is it so you can feel better about yourself?

“Free range religjous rant!” I like that! I always buy the free range chicken eggs because I find the expression comical. Tonight is Monday morning for me; I am in a good mood and feel like poking the trolls with a pointed stick.

Actually, I am past the whole religion thing, the arguments are kind of pointless to me, like debating which color is the best or which sports team is the greatest. Undoubtedly there are many evil people who happen to be jews, but in my experience there is no monopoly on evil. Just look at what is happening in Iraq, Nigeria, and Kenya if you doubt that. I just happened to be the first to post a comment, and the temptation was too great to resist!

According to one post, her former name was Michael before he transitioned into a female, or is it a “she male”..We must have DNA proof! This is grounds for impeachment folks if this is true.

“Indain Summer-Apocalypse rehearsed” from Daily Impact:

This is a shape of things to come: intolerable heat persisting for unprecedented lengths of time; failure of the electric grid when it’s needed most; hundreds of deaths from the searing heat; unreasoning violence spreading across the county like fire.

India had it all last week, and the relief brought by the (late) onset of monsoon rains may be scant and temporary. This is the specter of climate change made real, made explicit, in the present tense. And still the world acts as if it’s the other guy’s end of the boat that’s burning, no worries here.

In Delhi last week the temperature reached at least 113 degrees Fahrenheit for six days in succession. On June 11th the high there was 118. The heat caused demand for electricity that exceeded 11,000 megawatts on a system whose top capacity is 8,000 megawatts.

Rolling blackouts, imposed to try to save the grid, along with blackouts caused by equipment failures, shut down air conditioners, fans and water pumps just when they were most needed. In cities such as Delhi, the heat turned the air toxic. Levels of ground-level ozone, a product of the sun’s heat acting on auto emissions, more than doubled.

Desperate people began to sleep outside, even on cots in city streets, to escape their stifling homes. But as the heat wave became the longest on record, with temperatures rising faster during the day and staying higher through the night, desperation turned to anger (with a little help from the opposition party that just lost an election to a new prime minister who promised to provide reliable electricity. He’s been in office for three weeks).

Rioters began to clash with police, burn power substations, trash electric-utility-company offices and take power workers hostage.

It was hard to follow the rioters’ logic, but impossible to mistake their desperation.

Relief began to arrive this week in the form of a late and probably weak monsoon — rains that are moving across the entire country and should persist until September. Meteorologists are worried that in this El Nino year, the rains may be well below normal, and say there is a one in three chance of drought. In addition to affecting the food supply, that would be another blow to the country’s power supply, nearly half of which is hydropower.

Meanwhile India has been accelerating its coal imports to try to keep up with demand, which has been increased as a result of burning coal.

India is showing us what is going to happen. Is anybody taking notes?

FROM COLLAPSENET.COM: “the Most Destructive Presidents in American History: GWBush and BHObama”

Powers once granted are almost impossible to take back.

After 13.5 years, there is more than enough evidence for reasonable people to conclude that the presidencies of George W. Bush and Barack H. Obama are easily the most destructive in U.S. history.

When historians speak of failed presidencies or weak presidencies, they are typically referring to presidencies characterized by uneven leadership, petty corruption by self-serving cronies or in extreme cases such as the Nixon presidency, abuses of executive power.

But weak or failed presidencies are not destructive to the rule of law and the foundations of the nation. The failed president leaves office and the basic structure of the nation continues: the rule of law, the balance of powers and a free-market economy.

A destructive president weakens or corrupts these core structures in favor of executive-branch powers, and passes these unconstitutional powers to the next executive for further expansion.

The Bush and Obama presidencies have effectively dismantled the rule of law and the Constitution by invoking essentially unlimited executive powers in the name of “national security:” we the citizens of the U.S. can now be accused of violating secret laws, be indicted in secret, tried in secret and sentenced to life in prison based on evidence fabricated in secret, i.e. declaring unclassified documents classified after the fact to incriminate and imprison whistleblowers.

How is this any different from totalitarian fascist regimes?

This is absolutely contrary to basic civil liberties defined by the Constitution. Who benefits from this destruction of fundamental civil liberties? (Always start by asking cui bono–to whose benefit?)

The Big Lie is that this destruction of the foundations of the rule of law and civil liberties is for our own good: if the President and the National Security State don’t grab all these powers and deprive you of your constitutional rights, bad guys will destroy the nation.

This is of course the same old tired justification used by dictators and despots everywhere, and it is always a lie. The truth that must be hidden is that this wholesale expansion of executive powers at the expense of civil liberties, democracy, the rule of law and the balance of powers benefits the executive branch.

Every abuse of the law is now declared legal by executive order. Anyone questioning the legality of extra-legal abuses of power is told “this is legal because it was authorized by the President.” In other words, executive power is now unquestioned and cannot be challenged.

For a variety of unsavory reasons, the Supreme Court has enabled this expansion of essentially unlimited executive power. Congress has also rubber-stamped it as part of The Global War on Terror (GWOT), the unlimited war that justifies unlimited executive powers, unlimited secrecy and unlimited expansion of the National Security State, the Deep State that is impervious to changes in electoral government.

Presidents Bush and Obama have directed this expansion of the National Security State because it greatly enhances the power of the Presidency. This is how we get a president who is delighted to discover that he’s good at killing people remotely with drone strikes…”

Read the whole article. The author is dead-on correct, and it makes me fear what monster will be coming next to the Oval Office. Anyone other than Elizabeth Warren will just make the power grab even worse, consolidate more unconstitutional powers, and, in all likelihood given the great resource crashes to come, use those powers in very unpalatable ways.

I share Jim Kunstler’s fear of a “corn-pone Hitler” wrapped in the American flag…and so should you. – Wes

There are a hell of a lot more of these jackasses that want to give pain to others because they are deeply in agony for whatever reason. You just didn’t see this a generation or two ago where lone wolf type of imbeciles went out to terrorize people just for the fun of it. Another sign of the way the society is decaying very rapidly. This did not sound like some dry run either because it failed. Sounds like someone too stupid to figure out much.

How many events can you name offhand where a single perp said something to somebody beforehand about what they intended: pretty much all of them…but SIX non-military Americans staying quiet? It doesn’t happen. We are a nation of blabbers.

AND does anybody actually personally know FIVE other people with an AK-47?

In regards to the other event, how was the break-in not registered on some level immediately and investigated thoroughly in this day and age of constant monitoring?

        • DMONIC says:

I have to point something out- you ALL are missing the fact that *they* are saying the attack was carried out by people with AK-47’s. HOW the hell do *they* know they used AK-47’s? The last time I checked, AK’s arent the ONLY weapon that uses a 7.62…. Hell, even AR’s come in a 7.62 now. Along with Sigs, SKS, HK’s, etc etc.

Inside job. We are being destroyed from within.

          • twodog says:

It doesn’t take a crime lab tech, all you have to do is look at the shell casings. An AR-10 uses a 7.62×51 round and the AK-47 uses a 7.62×39. While both use 7.62 projectile the AR has a bigger casing than the AK.

The fact that they couldn’t do something as simple as burning through steel implies to me… no testing of the incendiary device. Which implies someone who would get caught if they tried to test it in their back yard or whatever. Which implies a random lunatic.

I’m thinking these attacks are to determine things like average response time, how the media will react, whether or not other power stations will step up security, etc. The list of possible suspects is rather long, considering the porous nature of our southern border. A few years ago, I heard rumors of Iranian Revolutionary Guard command os having infiltrated via Mexico. Is this them? Who knows? It could be cartels, another foreign power, or even an offshoot of the old Project Gladio. It could just be some crazy people who think Mad Max is a great way of living. By the time we discover who, and their motive, it will probably no longer be our immediate concern, if you get my drift. Keep prepping, brothers, because it ain’t going to get better without getting a whole lot worse first!

  3. The Moon is a Harsh Mistress says:

On a more serious note, if war with the federal government were to occur, the best chance for resistance to succeed would be for patriot groups to take down the power grid by any means available. High tech weapons require fuel and electricity to stay operational and the best way to level the playing field is to take down the infrastructure that supplies these to the NSA and its enforcement agencies. Tanks cannot move without fuel, and fuel cannot be moved without electricity to run the pumps that move it. We can only hope the security remains lax at these installations should their destruction be required.

    • islander says:

sorry bub but a real army will be well equipped and wont need the local infrastructure to operate however the locals will

      • The Moon is a Harsh Mistress says:

Sorry, but I beg to differ. Our real army couldn’t subjugate 30 million Arabs while using all the latest high tech our modern industrialized society could build. We had our asses handed to us and the only thing that kept it from being a disaster was buying off the guys attacking us and paying them not to plant IEDs and lob mortars into our FOBs.

Yes, a modern army brings with it what it needs to fight, but it is still subject to this annoying little thing called logistics. Modern armies have tooth to tail ratios that are abysmal, and drawing off more trigger pullers to protect vulnerable supply lines and energy resources only makes it worse. They have fixed vulnerabilities that HAVE to be defended at all costs, while an insurgency can strike anywhere and melt away at will. A single Taliban attack upon a line of fuel trucks at the Pakistan/Afghan border brought the forces in country to a single week of supply. Can you imagine the disaster that would have resulted if our military had no fuel to get helicopters into the air to resupply remote FOBs or provide air cover against mass attacks?

People need to stop being pessimists and realize that our oppressors are not invincible. There is no way that 3 million can control 300 million, especially when there is a good chance that a large portion of those soldiers will desert or refuse to fire on fellow Americans. Our greatest enemies will be militarized police who are already used to seeing us as enemies, and food shortages/famines, and disease.

        • Tucker says:

          I hope you’re right.

And, you are most certainly ‘right’ about the failure of our high tech military to subdue and control the 25 or 30 million Arabs in Iraq, or the population of Afghanistan for that matter.

Let’s just hope that the spirit of resistance is as strong inside White men here in Amerikwa as it was in 1776, and as strong as it was in the South in 1860.

          • MadMarkie says:

            @ Tucker –

I kind of wonder just how many of the government’s ‘hired-goons/thugs’ are going to be willing to leave their families behind while they engage in operations against their fellow citizens? It has been my experience that bought and paid for fighters are never usually much more than “place-holders”. They are there just as long as the wages are getting paid and the duty isn’t very hard to too dangerous. We are seeing just how well a bunch of “place-holders” are doing right now over there in Iraq; in spite of the bazillions of dollars worth of OUR TAXPAYER BOUGHT AND PAID FOR military equipment left behind and the EQUALLY EXPENSIVE training on how to use said military equipment.

The nincompoop in charge has caused, once again, one of our deep-water carriers to be put into harm’s way there in the ‘bath-tub’ that we call the Persian Gulf. I sure hope that we don’t do anything to REALLY piss-off those nasty Iranians with all of their expensive Chinese made anti-ship missile systems. Aren’t they the ‘peaceful’ folks that are building a full-scale replica of a US Carrier so that their armed forces can get some realistic experience attacking one? Go figure!

The next 30 days in the history of the world are going to be very interesting. So many opportunities for catastrophic errors available to so many nitwits in so many different locations. How can we possibly loose???

            God Bless & good luck.

        • @The Moon is a harsh Mistress, BI, Southron, et al

What I’m taking away from this story is that we should all re-double our efforts to make ourselves as energy (and resource) independent as possible, by any means necessary. I’m an all of the above kind of guy, meaning that I think whatever solution any of us uses is a good thing. And it doesn’t have to be a big thing right away, or its somehow “no darned good”…. for example, I live in South Carolina, and I’m hankering to get a solar power setup. Thing is, we just bought our house, and there were tons of things that needed doing first, so right now, money for a big project is not there. That doesn’t prevent us from growing gardens, stockpiling propane, cooking outside over a fire ring, etc etc. Heck, the 5 dollar worth of clotheslines has saved us money and helped us get just a little more off the grid already: just think how much power is sucked up by your dryer. Here’s another thought: get rid of your carpets and get laminates or hardwoods. If you have dogs like we do, NOT having to run the vacuum 100 times a week is also a blow struck for our independence. Wood floors can be swept by hand

Keep at it, bit by bit: you’d be surprised how fast those bits add up 🙂

          • Archivist says:

Get you a small solar setup so you can charge batteries for radios, flashlights, laptops, etc. That doesn’t cost so much, and you can keep it hidden away until you really need it. And you can keep the electronics in a Faraday cage in case of EMP.

            • Nathan Cline says:

I have a 68W solar cell, 8 amp charge controller with a car battery, and a nice 2500W modified sine inverter; nothing big and fancy, but good enough to do a lot of work. Last year I also bought an ancient Lister CS diesel engine and an old Katolight generator head, and used it to build a genset. The engine runs at 820 RPM (nice and quiet), will start the heaviest of loads with ease and supply 3500+ watts all day long, will burn just about any fuel, and starts reliably day in and day out. Did I mention it’s also EMP proof?

30% of the people in today’s Military, don’t even have a high school diploma. The standards for recruiting over the last 20 yrs, have been dropped down for anyone with a pulse who is gullible and willing follow orders. The US Military has failed over and over at Nuke Missile Sites for dry run testing. Its a mess. And these people have filtered to the top now, and who making current decisions. They are on the take with the MICM – Military Industrial Complex Mafia where as every decision made includes a strategic pocket of Cashola. This chick I know who works at a VA hospital, said 50%of the patients are Hispanic, and 25% more are Black. And many of the Hispanics don’t even speak English. So that’s who is protecting America Folks.

        • Confederate says:

The Obama rules of engagement would not allow the military to carry out the war the way it should have been carried out. Just like LBJ in Vietnam, politics, not superior fire power was the deciding factor in the “stalemate” of Vietnam as well as Iraq.

        • There is a certain truth to this idea that the supply line is critical to the function of a modern army. Back in the 70s the army was changing over to more modern trucks and I heard retired military mechanics discussing why this could be bad in a war. The old trucks had been built without any “modern” parts so that if the truck broke down out in the field it could be pieced together with whatever the crew could find. They used all kinds of stuff to get those trucks moving and finish the mission. Modern trucks can not do this. They require more and specialized part to run. So if the truck goes down in the field it is done.

      • Gonetoolong says:

The hand that feeds said real army (I mean to say the US tax system being the hand here) can shut down this army in short order. We simply say no mas. No more taxes going in and no more sales to the military by private companies. Sure there would be a temper tantrum to start with by the military, but it would be short lived IF the people of the US stood their ground. Now whether our citizens have the balls to do this, I don’t know.

        • WhoWuddaThinkIt says:

      • The Moon is a Harsh Mistress says:

Yes, the backups will buy them some time. But when you are talking about an insurgency lasting years or even a decade, the time those backups will buy is irrelevent. The Achilles Heel of the modern police state remains fuel and electricity. Do you have any idea how much fuel a modern main battle tank uses in an hour of operation? Or a C-130 gunship for that matter? Or the train of logistics that is required to provide that C-130 with it’s cannon shells, stretching all the way back to the mines and refineries that dug the ore out of the ground and smelted it into copper and tin and brass and lead; the fuel required to run the power plants and factories and power the trucks and trains that bring the munitions to the battle, and at every step along the way, the people necessary to make it all happen, all with their own logistical needs?

It is for this reason that the feds are doing everything they can to stock up munitions and weapons because they know once the shooting starts there will be no more resupply. Who keeps all those wars going around the world and provides the weapons and ammo? We do! When we are at war with ourselves though, the complexity of our modern weaponry and interdependance on the interactions of many diverse parts of society to keep the production lines going will ensure that there will be no new weapons produced. The electrical grid is a key player in all of this, and attacking it will force resources to be diverted to defending it, and hasten the collapse of the infrastructure that the police state relies upon to carry out it’s subjugation.

To win will require attack and not just passive resistance. Some would say that our way of fighting must spare noncombatants and maintain the moral high ground, like our forces in Iraq and Afghanistan. Others, such as the VietCong, instead chose to view the objective of victory as paramount, and used whatever means necessary to accomplish that objective, regardless of cost. I leave it to the reader to decide which is more important; victory, or not having blood on one’s hands.

      @Dave,
I’m a retired Christian Pastor. Church history tells us that the Jews have never really help out Christians unless it was to their own benefit. In fact from the time Christ began The Church, Jews have often gone out their way to harm Christians. This is History/Fact.

Holy Scripture tells us that Christ is the only way to Salvation (God) and ANYONE who denies Christ is “anti-Christ. A-N-Y-O-N-E-!

Therefore, from a Biblical point of view, there is no difference between a Muslim, Hindu, or Jew, as all of these “regions” denies Christ.

We are saved by Faith, not by race, blood, tribe, class, the amount of money we have, or the amount of “good works” we do. FAITH ALONE!

Organized Jewry: destroyers of Western civilization
“You have not begun to appreciate the real depth of our guilt. We are intruders. We are disturbers. We are subverters. We have taken your natural world, your ideals, your destiny, and played havoc with them.”
    – Marcus Eli Ravage, Jewish author, quote from January 1928 issue of Century Magazine

“We Jews, we, the destroyers, will remain the destroyers for ever. Nothing that you will do will meet our needs and demands. We will for ever destroy because we need a world of our own, a God-world, which it is not in your nature to build.”
    – Maurice Samuels, Jewish author, quote from You Gentiles

  16. betrthemichgander says:

Through their control of the media and Hollywood, their influence in popular culture and the arts, various intellectual and “social justice” movements including cultural Marxism, feminism, and radical homosexuality, the promotion of pornography and sexual degeneracy, and advocacy of mass immigration and “multiculturalism” in Western European and European-derived countries (the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand), organized Jewry has certainly targeted tradition Western civilization for destruction.

These destabilization techniques represent a Jewish plot to culturally, spiritually, politically, and economically corrupt, pollute, and destroy European culture primarily, and all decent, honorable indigenous cultures generally.

Organized international Jewry must be viewed as a hostile elite determined to destroy Western civilization.

  17. robthebob says:

WHEN RAND PAUL danced at a Jewish Yeshiva in Israel last year, his die-hard followers excused it as being a courtesy to his hosts.

But with Rand Paul’s recent wooing of Jews at a conference of rabbis where he romanced his “Stand With Israel Act 2014″ to cut funding to the Palestinian Authority unless it recognizes Israel as a Jewish state, many die-hards are leaving the fold.

Evidently, Rand Paul needs the Jews more than he needs a libertarian allegiance. Why?

Why should a racial group that makes up less than 2% of the US population incite Rand Paul to forsake his father’s long-standing antipathy to supporting any foreign nation?

As regards Israel, Ron Paul denounced legislation affirming Israel as a “Jewish” state:

“The US-Israel Enhanced Security Cooperation Act states that it’s the policy of America to affirm Israel as a Jewish state.

Poles apart from his father, little Rand has no problem with trampling on the Constitution when it comes to groveling before the Jews.

How else will his presidential ambitions be realized? It’s the Jewish vote that counts…NOT the Goyim vote of 98.2% of the US population.

And that’s how Jewmerica works in spite of the Jew-lovers who fear offending the Jews.

With money and media at Jewry’s command, America is owned by the Jews. And that’s a shame. That’s a crying shame.

I’m well aware of what goes on and I want uninterrupted electrical power. If some anti government types desiring a self imposed revolution think that harming the public in any way would endear them to the body politic are sadly mistaken.

In the old west stealing a horse was punishable by hanging because of its need for survival. Electricity holds the same position for many with special needs. My Dad is 92 and in poor health. Electricity is not a luxury but rather a necessity for him; so many others of all ages are in the same position.

    • The Moon is a Harsh Mistress says:

In a world of 7 billion + population and finite resources, electricity will soon be a luxury enjoyed only by the wealthy and connected. Most of the world is still devoid of electricity or only has access for several hours a day. We will revert to a world with electricity being far less common and not used for trivial purposes such as illumination. This will happen not due to patriots fighting government forces, but exhausted resources. And this remains true regardless of whatever else happens. I do not mean to sound callous, but if one is dependent on electricity for their daily survival they should be making haste to get an alternative source of electricity in place because this society’s time is almost up.

      • Gonetoolong says:

Your so full of it. I have a generator and am good for at least 4 days. (sarc off).

      • Kevin2 says:

Improvements in the efficiency of power generation coupled with technological advances in finding energy will make electricity available in the developed nations. A power generating plant was once limited at 30% thermal efficiency; its now surpassed 55% in new facilities. The automobile engine has about doubled in thermal efficiency in the last 30 years. This translates to twice as much travel on the same amount of fuel. Coupled with a lighter, safer and more long lasting vehicle MPG has increased 250%. When wages even as low as they presently age are factored in compared to pre 1973 your transportation costs are in relative value no more expensive.

        I disagree with your prediction.

        • Kevin2…While efficiency does make better use of resources, it has been shown to be a black hole whereby any gains in efficiency are soon used up by others.

The continual upward trend in usage of ALL resources shows this to be true.

We do, after all, live on a planet with limited accessible resources.

We will never run out simply because it will cost more in energy to get them than the energy they provide. “EROEI”. At that point they stay in the ground.

If there is some “new” technology they better put it to use soon. Fracking is not a new technology. It has been known for decades. It only shows that they are scraping the bottom of the barrel when they use these methods. Same goes for steam washing tar off sand.

          • Kevin2 says:

“Fracking is not a new technology.”

But horizontal drilling is which when mated to fracking makes it economically possible. Actually the oil recovered is abundant enough to be transported by rail from the central west to the east coast for refining. Poland is ripe for fracking as it was a coal producer and NG tends to be abundant in such strata.

Fracking has dropped the price on natural gas by 70% and they’re just scratching the surface. The potential world wide could in and of itself make the oil peg moot as huge imports of energy are no longer needed. You can’t force nations to use the US dollar to buy energy if they have no need for that energy. No doubt this byproduct of it has TPTB concerned as their master plan involved controlling energy resources and requiring nations to us the USD to purchase them.

The lights will stay on for a long time.

            • sixpack says:

“TPTB concerned as their master plan involved controlling energy resources and requiring nations to us the USD to purchase them.”

Perhaps that’s what TPTB’s mad dash to get their tentacles on LNG is all about?

  23. Survival Skvez says:

The electrical grid is a bit like the road network.

If you destroy a few key junctions you could inconvenience a lot of people, maybe even cut off a city or a town but a small group can’t ‘destroy the grid’. Most of the country won’t be directly affected.

Of course you don’t need to destroy the *whole* grid if your plan is to initiate a call for martial law or spread panic through the sheeple.

    • The Moon is a Harsh Mistress says:

That is a good analogy; however, the grid isn’t as redundant as a highway system do to all the pieces that support it which are interdependant. For example, if several large transformers in remote locations were destroyed, or those that support pipeline pumping stations, the resulting shutdown could affect the movement of liquid fuels. If this were to occur for long enough, stores would empty of food, JIT logistics chains would grind to a halt, trucks would be idled for lack of fuel, and the resulting chaos would ensure that the powet stayed off as critical personnel flee or are killed by the resulting violence. The Pentagon has wargamed this; by their own admission if the grid went down for any length of time cascading failures would result in 9 out of every 10 Americans perishing within a year.

      • hillaryhappy says:

I wonder about these. Logically, there were no people trying to terrorize the American people because humans are intelligent animals and could figure out a much better plan. Clearly, whacking a few essential rails would shut down alot and is fairly cheap and easy to do. Similarly with the water supply for major cities in dry states. So, logically, we cannot surmise anyone has ever tried to terrorize the American people. Thank God. The core of the American people remain respectful and caring towards all other people; and, I think for that reason are never targeted. TPTB? not so much. and may feel threatened globally.

    • Adamantium says:

Not exactly true…Knocking out a power plant for one section of the grid would create additional load for other stations that do not have the electrical capacity to host the electrical needs of the xxx000 customers the downed plant generated for. And if it’s targeting things like the electrical junction and transformation substations…Then these plants are still creating electricity that has no where to go…Eventually leading the possibility of overloading each transformer along its path as well. Specific well targeted locations on the grid could be disastrous.

    • hillaryhappy says:

Good video but author is young and naive. His assumption the activities are being done on the best intentions is very naive. TPTB have and had no interest in the best intentions. The quote saying the starvation of 500,000 children is “worth it” for her political goals tells all.

        “George Washington’s Vision”

This afternoon, as I was sitting at this table engaged in preparing a dispatch, something seemed to disturb me. Looking up, I beheld standing opposite me a singularly beautiful female. So astonished was I, for I had given strict orders not to be disturbed, that it was some moments before I found language to inquire the cause of her presence. A second, a third and even a fourth time did I repeat my question, but received no answer from my mysterious visitor except a slight raising of her eyes.

By this time I felt strange sensations spreading through me. I would have risen but the riveted gaze of the being before me rendered volition impossible. I assayed once more to address her, but my tongue had become useless, as though it had become paralyzed.

A new influence, mysterious, potent, irresistible, took possession of me. All I could do was to gaze steadily, vacantly at my unknown visitor. Gradually the surrounding atmosphere seemed as if it had become filled with sensations, and luminous. Everything about me seemed to rarefy, the mysterious visitor herself becoming more airy and yet more distinct to my sight than before. I now began to feel as one dying, or rather to experience the sensations which I have sometimes imagined accompany dissolution. I did not think, I did not reason, I did not move; all were alike impossible. I was only conscious of gazing fixedly, vacantly at my companion.

Presently I heard a voice saying, “Son of the Republic, look and learn,” while at the same time my visitor extended her arm eastwardly, I now beheld a heavy white vapor at some distance rising fold upon fold. This gradually dissipated, and I looked upon a stranger scene. Before me lay spread out in one vast plain all the countries of the world — Europe, Asia, Africa and America. I saw rolling and tossing between Europe and America the billows of the Atlantic, and between Asia and America lay the Pacific.

“Son of the Republic,” said the same mysterious voice as before, “look and learn.” At that moment I beheld a dark, shadowy being, like an angel, standing or rather floating in mid-air, between Europe and America. Dipping water out of the ocean in the hollow of each hand, he sprinkled some upon America with his right hand, while with his left hand he cast some on Europe. Immediately a cloud raised from these countries, and joined in mid-ocean. For a while it remained stationary, and then moved slowly westward, until it enveloped America in its murky folds. Sharp flashes of lightning gleamed through it at intervals, and I heard the smothered groans and cries of the American people.

A second time the angel dipped water from the ocean, and sprinkled it out as before. The dark cloud was then drawn back to the ocean, in whose heaving billows in sank from view. A third time I heard the mysterious voice saying, “Son of the Republic, look and learn,” I cast my eyes upon America and beheld villages and towns and cities springing up one after another until the whole land from the Atlantic to the Pacific was dotted with them.

Again, I heard the mysterious voice say, “Son of the Republic, the end of the century cometh, look and learn.” At this the dark shadowy angel turned his face southward, and from Africa I saw an ill omened specter approach our land. It flitted slowly over every town and city of the latter. The inhabitants presently set themselves in battle array against each other. As I continued looking I saw a bright angel, on whose brow rested a crown of light, on which was traced the word “Union,” bearing the American flag which he placed between the divided nation, and said, “Remember ye are brethren.” Instantly, the inhabitants, casting from them their weapons became friends once more, and united around the National Standard.

“And again I heard the mysterious voice saying “Son of the Republic, look and learn.” At this the dark, shadowy angel placed a trumpet to his mouth, and blew three distinct blasts; and taking water from the ocean, he sprinkled it upon Europe, Asia and Africa. Then my eyes beheld a fearful scene: From each of these countries arose thick, black clouds that were soon joined into one. Throughout this mass there gleamed a dark red light by which I saw hordes of armed men, who, moving with the cloud, marched by land and sailed by sea to America. Our country was enveloped in this volume of cloud, and I saw these vast armies devastate the whole county and burn the villages, towns and cities that I beheld springing up. As my ears listened to the thundering of the cannon, clashing of sword, and the shouts and cries of millions in mortal combat, I heard again the mysterious voice saying, “Son of the Republic, look and learn” When the voice had ceased, the dark shadowy angel placed his trumpet once more to his mouth, and blew a long and fearful blast. “Instantly a light as of a thousand suns shone down from above me, and pierced and broke into fragments the dark cloud which enveloped America. At the same moment the angel upon whose head still shone the word Union, and who bore our national flag in one hand and a sword in the other, descended from the heavens attended by legions of white spirits. These immediately joined the inhabitants of America, who I perceived were will nigh overcome, but who immediately taking courage again, closed up their broken ranks and renewed the battle.

Again, amid the fearful noise of the conflict, I heard the mysterious voice saying, “Son of the Republic, look and learn.” As the voice ceased, the shadowy angel for the last time dipped water from the ocean and sprinkled it upon America. Instantly the dark cloud rolled back, together with the armies it had brought, leaving the inhabitants of the land victorious!

Then once more I beheld the villages, towns and cities springing up where I had seen them before, while the bright angel, planting the azure standard he had brought in the midst of them, cried with a loud voice: “While the stars remain, and the heavens send down dew upon the earth, so long shall the Union last.” And taking from his brow the crown on which blazoned the word “Union,” he placed it upon the Standard while the people, kneeling down, said, “Amen.”

The scene instantly began to fade and dissolve, and I at last saw nothing but the rising, curling vapor I at first beheld. This also disappearing, I found myself once more gazing upon the mysterious visitor, who, in the same voice I had heard before, said, “Son of the Republic, what you have seen is thus interpreted: Three great perils will come upon the Republic. The most fearful is the third, but in this greatest conflict the whole world united shall not prevail against her. Let every child of the Republic learn to live for his God, his land and the Union.” With these words the vision vanished, and I started from my seat and felt that I had seen a vision wherein had been shown to me the birth, progress, and destiny of the United States.

  29. JohnFornaro says:

I think the article was pretty good.

    1. I doubt, as of the moment, that there is a group coordinating the attacks.

    2. People can act independently to achieve the same goals, such as power disruption. There is insufficient publicly available information on the two attacks, and it would be a mistake for law enforcement to connect them without reason, because it would impede their abiity to solve the crime.

    3. Jackasses and wannabees could also have attempted the attack. Again, there is insufficient info.

    4. Another plausible theory would be the false flag one, where attacks with minimal actual damage are used to justify the industry saising rates in order to pay for a new, higher level of security. The first attack, with the AK-47’s doesn’t seem to fit this bill, but the second one could. The false flag premise would fail, as I see it, since there is little to be gained from that approach.

    5. The author was fairly obvious in stating his bias towards paranoia, and seemed to be quite aware that he was only tentatively offering his analysis, without a grandiose headline of imminent and widespread doom.

    6. There also could be a home grown terrorist-ish cell which has targeted the power grid. Not enough attacks and publicly available info to tell.

    7. The analysis was pretty darn good, particularly:

7a. “I suspect these attacks are probing missions.”

7b. “If someone were attempting to bring [the grid] down, they need to know its ins and outs, and they need know where it is most vulnerable. They need to know how difficult it is to bypass the security of these facilities. They need to develop a map of all of our power plants, substations, power lines etc. Heck, they may even pull off minor attacks of little consequence, just so the news may give them more information on the facility.”

7c. “They have to figure out how they can destroy the grid with the fewest number of attacks.”

7d. “They need to see what happens, on the small scale at first, when certain parts of the grid are damaged or disabled.”

    8. Alas, we can only hope that domestic LE and DHS have not been politicized to the point of failure, and that they can protect the grid without falsely requiring the First Amendment to be negated. See Ms. Clinton’s overt attack on 1A here:

  30. JohnFornaro says:

  31. Shane Vandrell says:

Unrelated or not this is a crazy story. Makes me wonder when and where the next attack will be.

  32. Today
I swung my front door wide open and placed my Remington 30.06
    right in the doorway. I
left 6 shells beside it, then left it alone and went about
    my business.
    While
I was gone, the mailman delivered my mail, the neighbor boy
    across the street mowed
    the yard, a girl
walked her dog down the street, and quite a few cars stopped
    at the stop
sign near the front of our house.

    After
about an hour, I checked on the gun. It was still
sitting there, right where I had leftit.
It hadn’t moved itself outside. It certainly hadn’t
killed anyone, even with the numerous
    opportunities
it had been presented to do so.

    In
fact, it hadn’t even loaded itself. Well you can
imagine my surprise, with all the media hype
    about how
dangerous guns are and how they kill people.

    Either
the media is wrong or I’m in possession of the
    laziest gun in the world.

    Well,
I’m off to check on my spoons. I hear
    they’re making people fat.

    The
    United States is 3rd in
    Murders throughout the World.

    But
if you take out Chicago, Detroit,
    Washington DC and New
    Orleans, the United States is
    4thfrom
    the bottom for murders. These
4 Cities also have the toughest Gun Control Laws in the
    United States. ALL
    4 are controlled by Democrats.

    It
would be absurd to draw any conclusions from this data
    – right? But
it leads me to draw the conclusion that Democrats must be
    killing people.

    • Poon Tang says:

Actually, the democrats ARE killing people. They are engaging in a policy not unlike “fast and furious”. In Chicago, they refuse to lock up gang members and convicted felons for unlawful use of a firearm. They avoid felony charges as often as possible. Why? Because the democrats want the violence. Why? When the gun crime becomes so horrific, then they can enact draconian gun laws. That was also the purpose of fast and furious. The democrats are killing people.

    • Shane Vandrell says:

VRF: I read your post, Seriously funny. Thanks I needed a good laugh! Could not agree more with what you have written.

  33. Nick-Dog says:

I agree with the assertion that these are probing attacks, trial runs and intelligence gathering missions to see what happens and what works. There is no indication that this is state sponsored, one way or the other, not that it is out of the realm of possibility. Like the author, I see these attempts as related and am concerned that one day, these disturbances will no longer look like probing actions.

  34. John Langdon says:

Taking down the power grid is not difficult at all. I’ve worked in the power industry for over thirty years and can tell you you don’t have to destroy any substations or power plants to take the grid down. The country is cris-crossed with hundreds of high voltage lines carrying 345,000 Volts A.C. and we even have some 500,000 volt D.C. lines running through the country. Anyone with half a brain knows the power lines can easily be brought down and not one of them is “guarded” per se since they are usually in the middle of nowhere. Their locations are not secret since they are in the open and any terrorist could plan an attack with other terrorists across the country to do massive damage. It would take weeks if not months to bring power back to the country and in the meantime our economy would fail and riots would be everywhere.
Since these attacks are on substations and power generating facilities it smacks of government false flag attacks which get massive media attention so everyone thinks a homegrown rebel did it and people start watching each other and turning each other in for anything they can think of. The Sheeple will gladly trade freedom for false security which is what the government wants.
Then…the biggest attack (false flag attack) occurs dropping the grid on the Eastern half of the U.S. and the government blames it on the Tea Party and NRA and viola’! The government gets to pass a law demanding every American TURN IN YOUR GUNS OR GO TO PRISON! Wait and see…something BIG is about to happen in this country and Obama’s Goon Army (D.H.S.) will be used to crush the American People.

  35. WhoWuddaThunkIt says:

The American People are getting sick and tired of being harassed by the Government’s fear mongering and fleecing, whereas if we following and fall into this same trap over and over, we become their slaves, as we give up our freedoms, and relinquish our security to the fear mongers who promise to keep us safe. This next election and every election for decades going forward, we need to VOTE OUT both Democrats and Republicans. Any third party candidate has to be better than these embedded criminals running the show now. Eric Canter is the start, now lets get rid of the rest. Ready FLUSH!!!

  36. George Washington says:

I think that your theory is spot on. The attack will be a false flag most likely blamed on right wing terrorists (Patriots). The American will quickly turn against the Patriot movement when they lose power for an extended period of time. I think that it will not be nation wide, rather a smaller region. Imagine if they could disrupt Arizona, Texas, and several southern states before the 2016 elections.

  37. Socrates says:

These power grids attacks could be connected…or could just be whackos trying to start something. Or stop something. Either way, let’s consider the real implications of a national power grid down scenario.

-Nuclear Power reactors (over 104 of them in the US) require cooling water. Assuming dual 3.5 meter inlet pipes, that equates to 3.5×106L/min of cooling water drawn from the ocean, river or other body of water.

-Most, if not ALL Nuclear power plants have only 15-30 days of onsite diesel fuel reserve to run the backup generators. That is not enough to keep the spent fuel pools cooled for long. So national power grid down scenario is really, really bad.

-Hospitals are required to have onsite backup emergency generators as well, but face the same issues as the nuke plants-limited fuel reserves. A lot of people *will* die if the hospitals cannot keep power on, plain ans simple.

-Water, fuel and energy transport all require energy to keep things flowing. Shut off the energy and pumped water flow stops. Lift stations for sewers are no different and you will have sewage backed up everywhere.
Without water flow, people *will* die, plain and simple.

-No power means no ATMS, Banks or stores. Hell, clerks cannot even do simple addition and subtraction now without calculators or computers.

-Former DHS head Janet Napolitano stated the chances of the U.S. grid going down were at 100%. Not 20 or 30 or 60. 100% That’s a pretty bold statement.

The big takeaway word from the grid going down is- death, and lot’s of it. Now that you know some of the more grim facts you will be facing, one has to ask- Who wants us all dead? Hmmm…

    • Kevin2 says:

“-Most, if not ALL Nuclear power plants have only 15-30 days of onsite diesel fuel reserve to run the backup generators. That is not enough to keep the spent fuel pools cooled for long. So national power grid down scenario is really, really bad.”

Most actually every oil refinery I know of has an internal power plant that is at least sufficient to run the facility providing electricity, steam and compressed air. In the horrific event of no power those utilities will get diesel one way or another. To quote Apollo 13, ” a meltdown is not an option”.

      • Jack Hammer says:

Actually all nuclear power plants are required to have three main Diesel generators on site with enough fuel to run all three for a minimum of 30 days at full load. The third generator was added after Fukishima and more fuel storage is now required on site.

        • Kevin2 says:

Fukishima’s Achilles heel was not having a direct coupled cooling water pump powered a diesel omitting the generator that can be (and was) shorted out. A nuclear power plant has sufficient residual heat to generate enough steam to supply turbines to power cooling water pumps once again omitting the electrical generator entirely.

Triple completely independent redundancy is the key.

    • sixpack says:

One would think that if scientists were so damned smart, they’d have figured out how to make a power plant power itself, once it got started, eliminating the need for external power and “backup generators.”

    • Jack Hammer says:

The nuke plants have Diesel in storage to last for thirty days running three main Diesel generators under full load. The fuel pool cooling motors are very small electrical loads. The motors are usually only 5 H.P. motors running at 1750 RPM or so. There are two motors in the original fuel pool cooling system and in the last few years all nuke plants have added a secondary fuel pool cooling system with two more small H.P. electric motors as backup. This was due to Fukishima. The fuel pool is the least of our worries. The reactor itself is the problem. If all power is lost the reactor coolant pumps and freshwater cooling systems must be operated to cool the reactor plant water. This can usually be accomplished in just a few days after the reactor is shut down. Running these systems and the fuel pool cooling system for thirty days is very simple since all of these together is not much load, not even for one Diesel generator. The problem arises when the plant operators decide to run more major systems for comfort such as air conditioning throughout the plant on the Diesel generators. Some of these must be run to keep the interior of the plant cool which houses the electronics that run the plant and of course to keep the Control Room cool. Only time will tell if we have to face over 100 nuclear reactors melting down in the U.S. I think it will happen so make sure you know where all the nuke plants are and stay away from them. Get a Geiger counter to monitor radiation levels. It’s going to get nasty out there soon.

Having retired from a fossil fuel power plant within an oil refinery and having talked with like employed nuclear power plant operators I was a tad jealous of their redundancy and NRC oversight.

I live a few months a year within the evacuation zone of a nuclear power plant and never was concerned about its safety. The Japanese plant had their back up generator shorted out with sea water which effectively left them , “dead in the water”.

  38. slingshot says:

These operations against the power plants may not be only to place hardship on the people.

How about a secondary target. Something that is guarded with electric protection. Or the need to move something in complete darkness.

No, War Does Not Help The Economy

    http://www.activistpost.com/2014/06/no-war-does-not-help-economy.html

“The idea that the Great Depression was finally brought to an end by the onset of WWII has been a staple of history textbooks, documentaries and various war propaganda for decades. This myth continues to be perpetuated to the present day.

The idea that war is good for the economy is, needless to say, a fallacious argument which itself is based on incorrect economic data.”

…Speaking of water not flowing due to no power…how about a country that imports MORE fresh water than the U.S. does oil? When the lights go out it won’t be pretty.

FUBAR II: China Must Import More Water Than The US Imports Oil
    (from ZeroHedge site)

But I’ve identified a far greater problem for China… one that few people are talking about. And frankly I’m not sure they can fix it.

We discussed earlier that China does not have the capacity to feed itself. By the estimates of one state official, the country’s agricultural imports require more land to grow than the entire land mass of California.

The reasons are simple. For one, China doesn’t have enough fertile land in production to support its population’s growing food demand.

Theoretically this is fixable. With a bit of time, patience, and technology, barren soil can be rehabilitated In other words, China doesn’t have enough enough productive land capacity to support its population.

But the far greater issue is China’s massive freshwater deficiency.

    • Kevin2 says:

Vietnam was called, “The rice bowl of Asia” and they now have oil in the South China Sea. If China gets hungry enough they will eat Vietnam and fill their tank in the process.

Traditionally Vietnam and China were enemies but our misguided support of France retaining their Indo-China colonies post WWII pushed these enemies together which was sufficient to fuel the domino theory. We set up the domino game board then use it to justify our military involvement.

I wonder if the thought of leaving nations alone ever crossed our minds?

    official response ???

    don’t worry
    be happy

“Yet agency spokeswoman Fadela Chaib insisted the far higher number of cases did not mean the virus was spreading faster.

“There is no sudden rise,” she said in an email to AFP, pointing out that the increase could be explained by the heightened vigilance in the region and the confirmation of previously suspected cases.”

    remember
it is not governments job to tell the truth
    it’s to maintain calm

and human behavior isn’t helping slow the spread
“MSF said earlier this month that the sick were often reluctant to go to hospital and family members in some cases have removed their sick loved ones from isolation facilities and taken them back to their villages.

The practice of moving the dead to be buried in other villages also poses a risk, while West African authorities have been struggling to stop mourners from touching bodies during traditional funeral rituals.”

  54. There is one other possibility you guys have not talked of. There are a number people, myself included, that think our power grid is too vulnerable. What if some of them shot up that one sub station to bring awareness of our vulnerabilities to the news and force the gov and power companies to increase security.

Also the Ak-47 is not the only weapon that shoots 7.62X39. You can get a Ar-15 in that round. And the SKS shoots it.

  55. jrcobbstr says:

I think the San Jose attack was done by IBEW thugs. They knew the vault (underground) location, how to open it, and what fiber optic cable to cut and how do do it in such a way it could not be spliced, but a whole new cable installed. (lots of union labor needed). Also they targeted the cooling system shooting holes in the mineral oil lines, again something an electrician would know. (and a ton of union labor to replace). I would bet they used SKS carbins instead of AK47s, same .762 round but more accurate and common and more useful for sport like hunting. I would look into any labor disputes that were going on at the time. Was work slow? How many people on the books?

  57. silvercountry says:

The NWO can not have a all digital currency if you do not have a functioning power grid. So by attacking the power grid is attacking at the heart of the NWO Plans.

  58. The incidents match the gray terror ‘oeverture’ proposed by Russian strategists, as covered on Hawk’s broadcasts.

Missions aren’t strict recon, but instill fear into both us and loyal elements of government. The disloyal NWO PTB want an everlasting ‘threat level orange’ adrenaline high to make everyone ready to shoot anything that moves, for coming martial law. Out of chaos, order. Peace is the enemy of putsch.

Since DHS/USMil has invited Russian shock troops onto domestic soil, and even training on US bases and Forest Service lands, the NWO putsch crew is just as happy to have ‘grey terror’ since none real exists. If ‘jihadi Joes’ had ever wanted to take down the grid, they could have done it decades ago with little effort.

Guns were used for agitprop. Bullets are the dumbest way to take down an electrical plant.

Any crossbow, slingshot, or even baseball bat will do. You attach a bare conducting cable to the projectile, other end to earth ground, like the metal fence. Launch it over the aerial power cables, simple as that. The lines will short.

You could make a nice electrical fire. Throw some very dry or oil-primed tinder hay bales into the substation before launch. Falling sparks will light the place up.

I could mention cheap multicopter drones and even cheaper, but massively devastating, fuel-air ignition concepts, but you get the idea. The purpose of these incidents is fear to justify ‘papers please’ and gun control.

If the PTB wished to protect the grid, they could have been doing that ages ago with redundancy, standby systems, airgaps, hardening, etc. The grid is meant to stay fragile until the PTB take it down on purpose and blame an enemy du jour. The PTB will be in redundant-backup DUMBs with airgapped power not tied to our grid.
