Having a ready food supply already stocked will keep the mind focused on creating a safety plan and preparing rather than losing precious time at the store and the gas stations getting provisions and supplies.

Gathering a three-day food supply is useful for the home, as well as, for 72-hour kits.  Begin by listing all family members (pets included) and keeping in mind any special health needs (allergies, diabetes, etc)  for the members.  Plan meals to meet a 1500-2000 calorie diet that is high in nutrients.  Having a ready food supply already stocked will keep the mind focused on creating a safety plan and preparing rather than losing precious time at the store and the gas stations getting provisions and supplies.

Some suggested food supply items are:

  • Canned fruits, vegetables and meats
  • Canned meals
  • Dry mixes
  • Trail mix
  • Whole grain cereals
  • Beans
  • Canned soups and broths
  • Dried soup mixes (including bouillon cubes)
  • Boxed juices and milks.
  • Crackers
  • Peanut butter
  • Jellies
  • Beef jerky or dried/smoked meats
  • Granola or granola bars
  • Energy bars
  • Instant pudding
  • Hard candy
  • Instant rice and potatoes
  • Pastas
  • Instant oatmeal
  • dry milk
  • Infant formula or baby foods
  • Powdered drink mixes
  • Ready to eat meals (such as MRE’s)
  • Freeze dried foods
  • Vitamins
  • Flour
  • Sugar
  • Popcorn
  • Food for pets

Important Notes to Consider:

  • Water, infant formula, and canned foods are usually the first items to go.  People buy the same foods, so if there is a mass rush and everyone is buying the same foods, there will not be enough for everyone.
  • It is important to note that water is one of the most important items to have on hand.  Without water, some foods cannot be prepared. Moreover, it is essential to have water on hand for drinking and sanitation purposes.  Have water in food-grade containers so they last longer.  Some preparedness sites suggest having at least two quarts of water a day, but that amount seems too small and does not take into account that issues arise and more water may be needed.  When preparing a water supply plan on using 1 gallon of water per day per member of the household.  If water supplies is a concern, avoid certain foods and drinks that are high in salt, over-processed foods or caffeinated beverages.  These foods tend to make the body crave more water due to the high salt content.
  • Having ready to eat foods, staple foods, and specialty foods stocked such as hard candy or cookies creates a sense of normalcy and lifts morale.

Across the ages, in every survival story, a disaster of some sort plays a prominent role. Sometimes the part is played by the government, sometimes it is played by Mother Nature, and other times, the role is taken on by a random mishap. If we have learned one thing studying the history of disasters, it is this: those who are prepared have a better chance at survival than those who are not.

Good start list for new preppers with kids.
and you were in a situation where you could
not cook other than boiling water.
Looks like something you’d normally keep
in your family kitchen( except MRE) if you
had kids and went shopping on payday.

    • Nailbanger says:

      Hey Rellik
      You all squared away?
First one should just bring rain, second one who knows, we could actually use some rain,
It will be entertaining to see all the unprepared whning that government response is too slow.
      Personally im cool with Barny

      • Ketchupondemand says:

You two are well prepared for anything.
Hoping for the best for you and yours.
Hurricanes are a fact of life, huh?
        Regards from the isle!

      • rellik says:

Squared away as usual, I just wish my solar project was further along. Only just got my powered post hole digger. But if I have to, I’ll lay panels on pallets, out on the ground and wire enough the run the house, Freezers, and Reefers.
I will top off the generators , perishable food, and cars on Wednesday. Hurricane Erick isn’t supposed to hit till Friday, and Flossie four days later. It looks like Flossie is aimed straight at Mauna Loa, be interesting to see how that works.
        Rain water will be welcome.
It has been so dry lately all our blue berries died.
I’m going to re-install my irrigation stuff.
        I know you are ready.
        Batten down the hatches!

        • Mountain Trekker says:

Just wondering, when did they start calling them hurricanes in the Pacific. Seems like back in the olden days they always called them Typhoons in the Pacific and Hurricanes in the Atlantic. Seems like I just started hearing them called Hurricanes in the Pacific the last few years. Guess I’m just not keeping up with the times. Anyway Stay Safe and Keep Your Powder Dry. Trekker Out

      Reason for so few views?

Are people RedListed being round up?
      Are Mexican cartels murdering Americans?
You should all know by now how violent the government is. Especially when there are 200 of them and one of you. They just love murdering anyone who dares to even question their made up nonsense edicts/”laws”. No conversation. No addressing grievances. No discussion. The government just forms up in mass, and then murders.

Police and Government are VIOLENT murderous criminal organizations. Their violence is unending.

I have experienced their violence personally. Watched them murder unarmed Americans in Jail custody. The men were murdered by government jailers. Body parts, vital organs, harvested for black market. They also filtered illegal aliens through the facility. My assumption is that dead Americans ID was distributed to these illegals. They were each given stack of info, computer print out 3″ thick. Targets?

After my horrific experience I began research. Called friends in high places for answers. “Was told to leave it alone. Above my pay grade. Enjoy my retirement. Stay out of it.”

I researched. I also shoot my mouth off to anyone who will listen about what I witnessed. No one seems to care. So my asumption is that the death camp, murders, organ harvest, asset harvesting. And what looks like a fielding of a military element, fielded by illegals. Are all sanctioned activities by Deep State.

Look up organization called La Raza.
Look at how large quantities of a deadly drug called Fentenoyl has been imported into USA by Mexican cartels. Very dangerous drug. Are they trying to wipe out Americans?

In Dallas Texas they caught a man who murdered close to 30 elderly people. That is just what authorities know about. Of course he was an illegal. He murdered for profit as home health care..

I believe Mexican cartels are doing same type of thing. Americans are being murdered. Assets confiscated. It is being covered up.

Preppers would logically be targeted by a Tyrant NWO Communist/Deep State organization embeded within US government. Is that why so few views on shtfplan?

      Think about it.
You have the FBI trying to take down an Elected president.
You have California trying to keep a sitting President off the ballot with made up new “laws”.
You have politicians refusing border security. Hundreds of thousands of illegals filtering into USA.

Is there a quite war targeting Patriotic Americans?
Are people being disappeared like what happened in Argentina?

Just store dog food and water, it’s good enough for your dog so it’s good enough for you right? I guess I had better store more hamburger and steak and chicken and unprocessed turkey dogs and asparagus and broccoli and rice and coconut oil and vitamin treats so my dog can continue his normal diet. If you really loved your dog you would feed him like you do.

    • Genius says:

      Or feed them this shit:
On the other hand, generic by-product meals do not identify the source of the meat. Instead, they use vague and non-specific names like…

      Meat meal
      Meat and bone meal
      Meat by-product meal
      Animal by-product meal
What’s more, generic meat meals can also contain…

      Road kill
      Dead zoo animals
      Dead on arrival poultry
      Diseased and dying livestock
Euthanized pets from animal shelters and vet offices including tumors etc.

Good boy Fido, have some gruel!

        Raw Material:

The dead animals and slaughterhouses waste which rendering plants recycle includes:

Slaughterhouses waste such as heads and hooves from cattle, sheep, pigs and horses, blood, bones, etc.

Thousands of euthanised cats and dogs from veterinarians and animal shelters

Dead animals such as skunks, rats, and raccoons

Carcasses of pets, livestock, poultry waste

        Supermarket rejects

Along with the above material, the rendering plants unavoidably process toxic wastes as indicated below.

        Toxic Waste:

The following menu of unwanted ingredients often accompany with dead animals and other raw material:

        Pesticides via poisoned livestock

Euthanasia drugs that were given to pets

Some dead animals have flea collars containing organophosphate insecticides

Fish oil laced with bootleg DDT

Insecticide Dursban in the form of cattle insecticide patch

Other chemicals leaked from antibiotics in livestock

Heavy metals from pet ID tag, surgical pins and needles
        Plastic from:
Styrofoam trays from packed unsold supermarket meats, chicken and fish
        Cattle ID tags

        Plastic insecticide patches

Green plastic bags containing dead pets from veterinarians

Skyrocketing labor costs are one of the economic factors forcing the corporate flesh-peddlers to cheat. It is far too costly for plant personnel to cut off flea collars or unwrap spoiled T-bone steaks. Every week, millions of packages of plastic-wrapped meat go through the rendering process and become one of the unwanted ingredients in animal feed.

        Recycling Process:

The rendering plant floor is piled high with ‘raw product’ all waiting to be processed. In the 90-degree heat, the piles of dead animals seem to have a life of their own as millions of maggots swarm over the carcasses.

First the raw material is cut into small pieces and then transported to another auger for fine shredding. It is then cooked at 280 degrees for one hour. This process melts the meat away from bones in the hot ‘soup.’ This continuous batch cooking process goes on non-stop for 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

During this cooking process, the soup produces fat of yellow grease or tallow (animal fat) that rises to the top and is skimmed off. The cooked meat and bone are sent to a hammermill press, which squeezes out the remaining moisture and pulverizes the product into a gritty powder. Shaker screens remove excess hair and large bone chips. Now the following three products are produced:

        Recycled meat
        Yellow grease (animal fat)
        Bone meal
Since these foods are exclusively used to feed animals, most state agency spot check and test for truth in labeling such as: does the percentage of protein, phosphorous and calcium match the rendering plant’s claims; do the percentages meet state requirements? However, testing for pesticides and other toxins in animal feeds is not done or is done incomplete.

If you feed your animals this shit you should be killed!

        • Genius says:

This crap is in YOUR food too! By proxy….

          Recycled Products and Usage:

Every day, hundreds of rendering plants across the United States truck millions of tons of this ‘food enhancer’ to dairy industry, poultry ranches, cattle feed-lots, hog farms, fish-feed plants, and pet-food manufacturers. This food enhancer is mixed with other ingredients to feed the billions of animals.

Rendering plants have different specialties. Some product-label names are: meat meal, meat by-products, poultry meal, poultry by-products, fishmeal, fish oil, yellow grease, tallow, beef fat and chicken fat.

A 1991 USDA report states that approximately 7.9 billion pounds of meat, bone meal, blood meal, and feather meal was produced by rendering plants in 1983. Of that amount:

12 percent was used in dairy and beef cattle feed
34 percent was used in pet food

34 percent was used in poultry feed

20 percent was used in pig food

Scientific American cites a dramatic rise in the use of animal protein in commercial dairy feed since 1987.

I have 5 dogs to feed.
      They eat very well.
We feed them very good dog food and
they get our human food left overs.
One dog, Niger, even eats broccoli
      and loves old Pizza.
      Nothing goes to waste here.
It costs a lot of money to feed them.
But it costs FAR more to pay Vet bills
for sick dogs. Niger got some weird infection
Vet didn’t have a clue what
is was. Cost over $1000 to get him healed up.
He is was a 7 year old dog at the time.
I take care of all my animals.
The dogs also kill and eat rats, baby pigs,
and mongoose if they can catch them.

If you’re doing any jerky in a dehydrator once finished, you can shave some of those pieces with your knife and make a nice broth. Or add some potatoes or cattail roots to the pot to thicken.

  7. Clown World says:

Most people are too apathetic, goes the mantra.

But, any working, consumerist household should already have a three day food supply.

I just mountainbiked, uphill, to a landmark, where all of benches were removed, to prevent hobos. Hardly tetowaki. A place to sit and a glass of cold water would have been very nice. Naysayers don’t seem to appreciate what is the purpose of fattening food; it keeps you from wasting.

I think that strength and patience have their limits, and we should be glad, if we are still able to participate like normal people.

  8. Mr_Yesterday says:

3 days? Didn’t you mean 3 years? If at any point in your life, you only have 3 days of food on hand, you’re doing it wrong.
