Prepping: Foods to Buy For The Upcoming Economic Depression

As Tess Pennington says in her best selling preparedness book The Prepper’s Blueprint: “If we have learned one thing studying the history of disasters, it is this: those who are prepared have a better chance at survival than those who are not.”  The time to prepare financially for an economic depression was last year, but there are a few food preps you can get now to reduce spending over the next six months.

Storing at least six months’ worth of foods can go far in beginning a preparedness program on your own.  Keep in mind, you should consider your climate and environment (meaning you may be able to garden, or you may have a short season.)  You should also think of items you can add to barter with.  Think about what you could trade someone else for foods you may not have thought of or foods you can store and trade for other useful items.  In the event of another Great Depression, you will need to be able to barter if you have no money.

5 Foods You Can Be Stockpiling All The Time To Enhance Your Food Inventory

10 Items To Help You Start Your Emergency Food Storage

After all, people cannot eat gold or cash, so having items on hand that could be useful to many will help you get through. I have been storing the largest bottles of olive oil I can find.  I know there’s a small chance I’ll use it all, but when the prices are good, I’ve been stocking up. Here are a few other items myself, and other preppers suggest you store:

Canned Goods – Just start getting as much of these as possible. Store vegetables and fruits as well as beans and soups. You should also have some kind of canned meat, such as chicken, tuna, or spam.

Peanut Butter – A great source of energy, peanut butter is chock-full of healthy fats and protein. Unless the jar indicates otherwise, you don’t have to refrigerate after opening.

Rice – this is kind of a no-brainer, but it’s an easy filler for meals.

Dry beans – much like rice, this can be a great filler.

Wheat – using wheat will enable you to make bread, which can be filling during an emergency.

Make sure you have a can opener, and continually add to your food supply.  You will also want to know how to safely collect water and filer it.

Survival Water Filter DIY – What to do in an Emergency!

I personally, like the Life Straws, but others prefer the Sawyer water filter. Make sure you have something to filer water in your bug out bag.  It may be necessary to leave your preps in order to survive, and you’ll want to make sure you can drink water safely without getting sick first and foremost.

Forgetting Something? 5 Overlooked Bug Out Bag Items

Across the ages, in every survival story, a disaster of some sort plays a prominent role. Sometimes the part is played by the government, sometimes it is played by Mother Nature, and other times, the role is taken on by a random mishap. If we have learned one thing studying the history of disasters, it is this: those who are prepared have a better chance at survival than those who are not. A crisis rarely stops with a triggering event. The aftermath can spiral, having the capacity to cripple our normal ways of life. Because of this, it’s important to have a well-rounded approach to our preparedness efforts. Due to the overwhelming nature of preparedness, we have created the Prepper’s Blueprint to help get you and your family ready for life’s unexpected emergencies. To make a more comprehensive, easy-to-follow program, The Prepper’s Blueprint has been simplified and divided up in a way to help you make sense of all the preparedness concepts and supply lists provided. We have divided the chapters into layers of preparedness.

    Yes. Good advice. Get prepared.

Paper oil at negative 37 dollars a barrel. Petrol dollar turning into petrol penny.

Mad Max soon. Right now, slightly annoyed Max.

  3. Heads up! As you probably know, there was a panic situation of people buying guns and ammo during the lock down. Keep in mind that this is a presidential election year. And the Dems will be touting their gun control platform. Campaign season has already started. So there may be more ammo hoarding during the summer. Some states have closed all gun stores. Some states have left them open. I was in a local gun store in Illinois today. The owner of the store claims that the Governor has limited gun sales to only guns for safety and security. He will not sell you a hunting firearm! WTF?! No skeet shotguns! I have never heard anything that ridiculous in my life.

It’s time not only to stock up on supplies but also to start growing your own food and medicine if you can find any seeds left at this point.

I had to laugh when hearing that Nancy Pelosi posted a video of herself showing her cornavirus shutdown survival strategy, standing in front of two refrigerators, and openning one filled with a stash of chocolate. It is funny in the most sinister possible way, while people are losing jobs, can’t afford food, and a law maker responsible for this shut down and precipitating economic calamity, starts showing what I imagine is probably high end imoorted luxury chocolate.

It must have been a classic Marie Antoinette moment! It is just brazen disregard. I wish that I could have seen it! My youtube doesn’t work.

How do you like The Jew World Order so far America?! The world under lockdown, prohibited from working, forced borowing, forced forclosures on businesses and homes, increased survellance, talk of forced vaccination?!

This is the time to become anti-semetic before it is too late!

There is no reason not to be if you are not jewish! Hile Bill Gates! Hile Zuckerberg! Hile Bezos! Hile Mnuchin! Hile Jeremy Powell! Hile Jared Kushner! Hile Eric Schmidt! Hile Lea Gabrielle!

    It needed to be said!

If you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen! Look at what you’ve done! Destroyed Liberty and the Economy! Not to mention all of the wars! Expect to be blamed forever!

    You’ve earned it!

I’m not sure if those who left comments read the article. And I’m not sure this article isn’t just another reprint of a prior post. The reality for a person(s) preparing for the impending depression is to start by taking an inventory of what you need to survive and start buying whatever is available. Instead of trotting out the age old list of rice, beans and peanut butter you need to explain how to use those staples to create meals that are not only nutritious, but enjoyable to eat. Just because rice and beans go together doesn’t mean that it makes a good meal every day for long periods of time. Take wheat off of your list. Unless you have a way of turning it into flour it will mean wasting money on a food you can’t eat. Buy any other grains you can to replace rice and wheat. You should have included pastas, also getting harder to find, but another way to alter your menu. Canned food is a must, it’s easy and edible. However, due to the last 2 months of panic buying it is becoming a dwindling source of food. We are approaching a disaster without having gotten over the previous disaster and this requires a different strategy. I wish this article had more “meat” to it and less links to other worn out articles. Yes, prep. Get whatever you can for as long as you can as often as you can until you can’t. Shortages will get worse and hoarding is not a bad thing to do. Try to do something productive so you aren’t just another victim with their hand out expecting the government to fill it. If you can start a garden, start it. Do some research on line about sprouting and square foot gardens. Think about a green house to extend your growing season. An approach to the depression requires more commitment and effort or their will be even more desperate people doing desperate things during those desperate times.

Look up Grandpappy’s Recipe Book on Amazon, Ready Guy. It’s the answer to the question you just posed.

  10. 2 rocks can smash enough wheat berries to make a loaf of bread. A fishing yo-yo with 20lb test line, a treble hook, some corn = meat for your rice and beans. Big Rat Traps + peanut butter = squirrel stew for your rice and beans. Critter Cage = critters for your rice and beans. LARD = makes everything taste better. 22LR + groundhog (vegetarian btw) tastes ok with rice and beans. All American pressure cooker cans beef/chicken/pork/hamburger and jelly (from my easy to propagate grape vines for my peanut butter) in large quantities. Minnow net across a creek overnight nets protein. Trotline does too. 6Mil plastic black kills grass, clear for your greenhouses. 4Mil not worth $. Some folks are new and need the beans, rice, PB basics. Ease up and teach others from your experiences. I do mine.
