New Zealand Gun Control FAILS As “Kiwis” Ignore The New Bans

New Zealanders have decided to ignore the gun bans imposed on them by the government in the wake of the mass shooting at Christchurch. They have effectively nullified the law banning semi-automatic firearms and shotguns by completely ignoring it.

Politicians are left scratching their heads and wondering why New Zealanders won’t comply with their authoritarian edicts.  The so-called “gun reform” was expected to rid the vast New Zealand countryside of most semi-automatic firearms, magazines over a specified limit, and shotguns. New Zealand’s political chatelaine, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, had an almost unanimous parliamentary vote to institute the gun buy-back, though as Liberty Nation Legal Affairs Editor Scott Cosenza asserts, “Buy-back is really a misnomer because the government never owned those guns in the first place.”

Two months ago, Reuters breathlessly reported, “New Zealand police expect tens of thousands of firearms to be surrendered by a guns buy-back scheme.” Law enforcement authorities averred that “it could be more.” Pregnant with the expectation that gun owners would trade their firearms for cash, the political class is nonplussed by the results.

Only 530 guns have thus far been turned in to the authorities. -Liberty Nation

As for how many now illegal guns are still in the hands of the Kiwis, that’s unknown. Because those guns outlawed have never been registered with authorities, it’s impossible to get an accurate count and impossible to know where any of them are. The government has shot itself in the foot because the numbers that are available, show that New Zealand is quite heavily armed per capita. There are an estimated 1.2-1.5 million guns in a country of approximately 4.7 million people. To put it another way, the land of the Kiwi is about as big as Colorado with the population of Louisiana. New York City, for example, is home to about 8.6 million (2017 estimate), almost double the size of the New Zealand population.

Not only will those citizens who choose to suffer the indignity of being stripped of their guns lose their basic human right to self-defense, but they will also be taxed for the privilege. Cost estimates to the taxpayers by New Zealand lawmakers went as high as $500 million to $1 billion to pay for the confiscation scheme. But the truth is, authorities have no idea what it will ultimately cost. Should citizens keep up their non-compliance, then not very much, according to Liberty Nation. This would make for a Kiwi win which would allow them to keep their guns and money.

But the “authorities” have invented stiff punishments for such a rebellion: Those who refuse to surrender their prohibited firearms could be sentenced to a five-years in jail.  But how do they find out who has those guns and go about kidnapping those who disobeyed their orders?

Perhaps simply ignoring the new regulations may be effective, and law enforcement will find it impractical to round up the firearms of otherwise law-abiding citizens. Whether it becomes an exercise in futility for the government, a quest for a bigger bang for their buck by the people, or merely a quiet sidestep of hastily approved laws, Second Amendment supporters in America would be wise to take note.

It could just be that these laid-back Kiwis are poised to teach us a lesson in how to resist the oppressive and ham-handed fist of a tyrannical government. –Liberty Nation

“When someone looks out at the world and sees all manner of suffering and injustice, stretching back for thousands of years and continuing today, he invariably blames such problems on someone else’s hatred, greed, or stupidity. Rarely will someone consider the possibility that his own belief system is the cause of the pain and suffering he sees around him. But in most cases, it is. The root cause of most of society’s ills–the main source of man’s inhumanity to man–is neither malice nor negligence, but a mere superstition–an unquestioned assumption which has been accepted on faith by nearly everyone, of all ages, races, religions, education and income levels.” –Larken Rose, The Most Dangerous Superstition book description

Given that WW 2 was fought on their doorstep against the Japanese and the Chinese has designs on ” Down Under” I really can’t blame the People of New Zealand .

Too bad I lost all of my firearms in a tragic boating accident

  2. The Deplorable Renegade says:

I take my hat off to the Kiwis and wish them the best. ALL of us gun owners need to pay close attention to what is taking place in NZ. There will be valuable lessons to learn from this. I won’t be giving up anything under any circumstances.

  3. The Deplorable Renegade says:

GO KIWIS GO! My best wishes to you. All of us gun owners in the US need to pay attention and learn lessons from this. I’m not giving up anything under any circumstances.

      ….What HE said!

Thank God we’re finally seeing the citizens of some other nation willing to give thier IDIOT government the middle digit for legislating utter CRAP.

      Go Kiwi’s!!!

  4. The Deplorable Renegade says:

Notice the term ‘illegal guns’ used in the article? There’s NO such concept in my book.

“Rarely will someone consider the possibility that his own belief system is the cause of the pain and suffering he sees around him”.
This is one of my core axioms.
This is also why I despise the Democrat party.
I’m going to share this post everywhere I can.

  6. “Those who refuse to surrender their prohibited firearms could be sentenced to a five-years in jail. But how do they find out who has those guns and go about kidnapping those who disobeyed their orders?
They won’t have to….everytime a firearm is used (in self-defense, target practice, hunting, etc…), the owner will be charged with possession of an illegal weapon, and go to jail.!!!
The rest won’t matter because there not being “used”.

You make a good hard example out of some guy with a wife and three kids by throwing him in jail for five years and taking his kids away from him and ruining the whole family financially. Most everyone else will fall in line after that. For those that don’t an armed police raid where the dog, the wife, and a couple of the kids get shot will convince the public that anyone with a gun is a dangerous nutter.

Americans own 300 million firearms and over 1 billion rounds of ammunition. Seriously, if we were the problem, you’d know it. – meme

  8. The Deplorable Renegade says:

Rellik, I hate the Dems for the same reason. It’s all the reason anyone needs. There needs to be a purge in this land.

  9. The Deplorable Renegade says:

Rellik, BTW the Dems and all their socialistic crap are the root cause of all of our problems.

    • rellik says:

      TDR,
It isn’t just Democrats with the problem,
“Rarely will someone consider the possibility that his own belief system is the cause of the pain and suffering he sees around him”, but all of us. I’ve always been trained to question not only someone else’s decisions or beliefs, but that of my own. Classical Greek philosophy.
That’s what Universities are supposed to teach.
I still own a copy of “Cry the beloved country”,
      and Peter Singers “practical ethics”.
I earned my degree at a really obnoxiously liberal
      Christian University.
You have to pick your schools carefully, if
you want an education and not an indoctrination.

  10. The Deplorable Renegade says:

Rellik, good points. My education comes from my REAL LIFE EXPERIENCE. No college was ever necessary or even desirable. Even in the 70s when I was a young scrapper they were steadily going commie. There’s nothing but commie indoctrination at colleges and universities these days. What is education these days? Someone tell me.

    • rellik says:

      TDR,
Understood, but to be some kinds of engineer, doctor,
,or chemist, et al you need some formal education.
Do you want a doctor to do OJT on your
appendix? or a general contractor to build a
1,000 foot tall building without an understanding of loads
on a structure or my favorite, airplanes.
Quite simply is we can do everything by trial and error,
but maybe a few years in school may save a lot of failures.

  11. The Boers (white farmers of South Africa) have run away to New Zealand. They are truly refugees, there to escape violence.

The people of New Zealand are not stupid.

    .

  12. Glad to hear. Politicians are the same wherever you go. Ignore them and you’ll be fine.

    • Anonymous says:

So, do you ignore their blue lights in your rear-view mirror? If not, then they’ll easily get you. Are you ready and able to ignore them? Their existence says “no” you’re not.

  13. The same will happen here. Ignore their “color of law” rules if you wish. Me, got rid of all my stuff and, even if I had kept anything, wouldn’t advertise it on the webs or threaten people with violence. Cuz, ya know, that only puts a target on your back. Sometime they will come at three in the morning with overwhelming force to destroy your life. They are targeting and listing all the keyboard warriors in their data bases. I know, I know…yer a tough guy. You’ll take some with ya. Will you be a hero? No, you’ll just be dead. Pick your battles carefully. Be the grey man. Keep your plans local and face to face…not over the airwaves…for now.

    • Mrbud says:

Western governments are becoming weaker by the day, and are being overrun by mongrel hordes storming borders. I doubt there will ever be an attempt to confiscate firearms, especially in the US.

    • AegisOne says:

You’re acting like resistance is futile. People espousing doctrine like that are cowards. And they are wrong.

It’s a very simple numbers game.

First, in any average county in the USA there will be FAR more gun owners than law enforcement officers.

Law enforcement will have only one to maybe two days of being able to conduct raids before it becomes common knowledge that raids are coming. After those two days, the SWAT teams no longer have the element of surprise. The people will know they’re coming for them, and they can set up ambushes. The surviving family members of those killed by law enforcement in the initial raids will rally and form a resistance, attacking SWAT teams on flanking maneuvers and by sniper fire as they try to conduct continuing operations.

You doubt this AT ALL, then you havnt paid attention to blow back in the Middle East. People who would have NEVER picked up a gun to fight tge government or join an insurrection, are suddenly the first to grab a weapon when their son or daughter or wife or brother is killed by a tyrannical act by a government police state action.

Yes they will have overwhelming force, but if even just one officer is killed or seriously wounded for every two raids they go out on, they will VERY quickly run out of officers. But LONG before that time comes, they’ll suffer massive loss of officers by them simply refusing to participate in raids as they see friends/coworkers dying or paralyzed for life, and they start thinking they could be next, and their wives and kids start begging them not to go to work, and they realize they are raiding and killing not just Americans, but cops and military too. Their “own” kind. They’ll realize they are on those lists too.

You’ll have cops defecting and joining civilian rebellion movements.

Resistance and brutal conflict for two months tops, hundreds of civilians with families and no criminal histories dead at the feet of cops who have to see the children crying and the wives screaming trying to reach their murdered father/husband, along with dozens of cops, and I guarantee you that cops nationwide will stand down or quit en masse.

Go on, challenge my position and tell me I’m wrong. Former San Francisco Bay Area cop here, SWAT trained. I went on to do counter terrorism work after 9/11, and I’m a fugitive recovery agent. I would walk, at the absolute latest, by the second raid, but probably before the first ever went down. Most cops I knew would likewise stand down, but most would probably participate in 5 or 6 raids before really realizing what they were actually doing and walking out.

Seriously, if the gun owners of America fight back, it’s two
Months maximum the government will hold on before the horrific and consistent murders of Americans is too much to bear, the media is forced to cover thousands murdered in their homes in front of children, and the cops will simply refuse to follow orders. If they don’t do it for all the reasons already stated, they’ll do it for another reason.

That reason? Because by two months in, law enforcement will be facing a different warfare tactic designed to sap numbers and willingness to fight. The civilians who’ve had family
Members killed, will begin targeting, NOT the officers themselves, but the families of the officers when they leave to go to work. How many cops are going to keep fighting when everyday they go to do raids, one of their co-workers entire family gets wiped out and house burned to the ground, and everyday they know it could be their family next? What are they gonna do when their tech gets jammed (every HAM radio guy knows how to jam cop comms). Which forces cops to meet at specific locations, which are susceptible to sniper fire. How many cops gonna keep showing up to work when one takes a headshot getting out of their car as they arrive for work? Just one, every day. Can’t triangulate a single shot fast enough.

No, you’re stupid if you think armed Americans won’t win this one. It doesn’t matter how much overwhelming force they have in a single raid. It’s a numbers game. And you’re looking at the small numbers, not the overall picture and reality! And I’d honestly be amazed if it actually makes it two months before all the cops give up and the government is forced to rescind the orders and declare an amnesty. Not only because if the resistance they’re getting and the stand down by law enforcement, but also from the international stage. Just how long, and how many THOUSANDS of bodies, will the world stage tolerate before declaring the government actions a humanitarian crisis and war crimes against its own people? Even if they agree with gun confiscation, on the international stage, can you see the public outcry against thousands being by their own government?

You gotta wake up and see the big picture here.

      • Capt Barty says:

“And how we burned in the camps later, thinking: What would things have been like if every Security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family? Or if, during periods of mass arrests, as for example in Leningrad, when they arrested a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat there in their lairs, paling with terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand?… The Organs would very quickly have suffered a shortage of officers and transport and, notwithstanding all of Stalin’s thirst, the cursed machine would have ground to a halt! If…if…We didn’t love freedom enough. And even more – we had no awareness of the real situation…. We purely and simply deserved everything that happened afterward.”
― Aleksandr I. Solzhenitsyn , The Gulag Archipelago

        • AegisOne says:

That’s a favorite quote of mine, and “The Gulag Archipelago” is sitting on my bookshelf as we speak.

My wife is a Soviet and Hungarian history expert, and she has done some writing of her own and won awards for it. The point though, is that she taught me a lot I didn’t know and never learned in school / university about communism/socialism. She gave that book to me.

The quote is real, and stands true. Regardless of what people say about “overwhelming force” or government military and technological superiority. If it was that simple, and black and white, as argued by people in that camp, then the Vietnam war and the Russian’s conflict in Afghanistan and numerous other conflicts wouldn’t have turned out as they did.

Military might and numbers, advanced technology, top of the line imaging, satellites, drones, tanks, artillery, body armor, and some of the most tactically proficient military personnel on the planet… and we still can’t stop people sitting in caves, riding horses and armed with rifles over 60 years old… or people wearing black pajamas with POS guns only accurate at close range with bamboo traps. That’s reality. Regardless of whether you want to argue logistic or operational command interference in those situations, those things are factors that will be in play here too. Probably more so since it would be our own soil set to a backdrop of our own cities and citizens.

Conventional warfare in a conventional setting, yeah, those factors stomp ass and win. But fighting a guerrilla force that wearing no distinguishing gear, blends in with the civilian population, has the support of the civilian population, is constantly fed intel by insiders and 5th column people, who knows the terrain in a way invading forces never could, and who’ve had a lifetime raised on weapons and hunting..? Even better though, mate those traits up with people who have actually been trained by our own military and law enforcement and who are intimately familiar with our training, tactics, weaponry and operational capabilities. There’s a LOT of current and former military and law enforcement who would fight back against any kind of government action against the second amendment and door to door confiscation and raids.

          No.

          It’s entirely different here.

We will not find Americans in camps saying the words of Aleksandr after the fact.

What we will find, however, is our government in a state of shock, repeating a quote often attributed to a Japanese Naval commander in World War 2. “You cannot invade the mainland United States. There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass.” Our own government will realize its mistake in launching an invasion against its own. This humanitarian and political conflict could actually lead to the fracturing of the USA, asbatglelines become drawn, with conservative states headed by conservative governors deploy their states National Guard to defend their citizens from federal tyranny in the aftermath of stand downs following a bloody conflict, and when the feds see the turning of the tide and conservative territory coalitions turning in it, I can foresee an attempt to federally deploy troops on the streets to force their confiscation desires. This war game goes bad fast from here. With Democrats likely pushing for a federal police state and the continued push to confiscate guns including authorizing deployment of troops against American citizens to pick up where law enforcement refused to go. This will in turn also fracture our armed services, with large defections. I believe most will go along with it, at least at first. But you’ll have large groups of American troops with USA weaponry and gear and armor fighting back. Which leads to American soldiers not wanting to fire on American soldiers. Which leads to more defections. Which leads to a sense of losing control by feds, and a move to bring UN soldiers in (AKA foreign soldiers with no allegiance to Americans in any capacity and who would fight and kill indiscriminately and who come from countries already indoctrinated in the belief govt rule is supreme and citizens should not be armed). This move will further the divide in America and cause further fracturing of the states and dissolution of the USA as we currently know it.

The democrats and RINOs will overplay their hands and cause the destruction of this country, ultimately losing power and not getting their way in the end. But we will have thousands dead in the meantime.

That’s my best guess (many details shortened or left out to keep this quick) for what will happen if these idiots ever actually try to go for mass confiscation, based on my conversations with and knowledge of, police, medical, fire, military, and local politicians, combined with psychology and observations of behavior.

I only hope people are not stupid enough to kick this off. We aren’t Russians. Or Hungarians. Or Germans. Or Italians. We’re heavily armed and trained, with a knowledge of history of not only our country and its foundation in rebellion, but of what has happened to other countries in the past when they chose to submit instead of fight back. Especially with gun confiscation and what has historically happened afterward.

I don’t want a war. I have a son who I want to have a good life and not ever know violence. I’m not instigating, or wishing for it. I’m not daydreaming of some grand battle. Quite the opposite actually. I’m just smart enough to read the situation and see the factors in play that so many people just dismiss blindly, and simply take it for what it is without trying to make it fit some paradigm I want it to be.

      • No, if you advertise your supplies and talk about killing people online, you will be at the top of their list and you will still be dead. Notice, I didn’t say no resistance. I said pick your battles and be the grey man and do it locally face to face, not electronically. Of course, you’re a costumed clown and probably have an IQ of 50 (that’s who they like to hire), so I wouldn’t expect you to have much reading comprehension.
        Most likely a provocateur.

  14. Navy Vet says:

As an example of just how unenforceable these registration and/or confiscation laws are, one needs to look no further than NY, CT and NJ. Last I remember and I’m too lazy to look it up, although how reliable the numbers are is questionable since they’re published by .gov and reported primarily in the lackey press, estimated compliance with registration laws was <10% in each state. I also do not recall any published reports of any one being prosecuted for unregistered firearms in any of those states, except for that unfortunate woman from PA arrested in NJ.

  15. Pro Gun American says:

I’m very happy to hear the Kiwis are taking a stand against a tyrannical government. Surrendering your firearms is the same as surrendering your freedom and eventually your life.

What is with these mile long “comments”?

  16. Anonymous says:

That would all suppose mass coordination among the people–something that would portend another tyranny to replace the one being defended against. The cops already take down individual gun-owners, one-by-one and the people munch their cud and regurgitate the mainstream media’s propaganda that the gun-owner the cops attacked was “a criminal” and “deserved to be killed by the cops”….

  17. First off, never mind all the discussion about this tragedy being a “false flag” operation. Whether it is or not is irrelevant…what’s relevant is that so many take such a notion seriously, and the NZ Government’s knee-jerk reaction to demand that LAW-ABIDING Kiwis turned their firearms in does nothing but lend the “false flag’ idea credence.

Second, even down in the Southern Hemisphere, folks understand the concept that armed response to a robber and/or sociopath is often necessary in SECONDS, when the police MAY respond, if at all, in MANY minutes, if not HOURS. And as we found with the Parkland high school tragedy, even when an LEO is on the scene, at times he’s feckless and ineffective. Criminals and psychopaths don’t fear the police at all, they fear armed CITIZENS.
