The world’s leading news aggregator always stays on top of the most important stories in the world. With over a billion monthly visitors to his web site at DrudgeReport.com, it’s why thousands of media organizations follow his every post. Though seemingly a private person, there is no doubt that Matt Drudge has the inside scoop on many goings on in Washington and around the country. With contacts in high places, it stands to reason that the man behind the largest news source on the planet might get a heads up about key developments every so often.

Yesterday, after having completely wiped his social media Twitter account clean recently, Matt Drudge posted his first message in months.

It’s a simple message and very much to the point, but for those following the news of failing Ebola containment protocols it’s terrifying.

“self-quarantine”

Maybe Matt Drudge has gotten word of something that we’re not yet aware of just yet.

Or, perhaps, like any concerned citizen watching the Centers for Disease control botch the handling of Ebola, he sees the writing on the wall. The virus, as has been the case in Africa, will continue to spread.

Given what we know of the last 48 hours, the virus made it’s way from Dallas to Ohio and back when the second person to contract Ebola in America, Amber Vinson, boarded a commercial passenger plane while symptomatic. She was approved to fly after contacting the CDC and telling them she had a low-grade fever and had been a nurse treating Patient Zero Thomas Duncan.

There’s no telling how many people Vinson or Nina Pham (Patient #2) came into contact with while they were infected or where those people are now.

Given these latest developments, Matt Drudge may be right on target with his recommendation to self-quarantine.

But is it time to do that now?

Tess Pennington, author of The Prepper’s Blueprint, addresses this in her latest guide: When Should I Go Into a Full Pandemic Lockdown Mode And Self Quarantine?

Before you dismiss this as just another over-sensationalized attempt at fear mongering, understand this: Ebola has a 70% mortality rate and there is no cure.

Let’s be absolutely clear – this is not a common cold or flu. If you get Ebola, odds are you will die.

Pennington outlines several events and warning signs that should trigger your personal lockdown plan. She also goes on to provide details on what you’ll need to survive an extended quarantine in your own home.

For people who have never considered the possibility of a pandemic or large-scale emergency, it sounds simple enough. Lock the doors. No one goes in, no one goes out.

But unless you’ve planned for a pandemic in advance you can expect to run out of essential supplies like food pretty quickly. Moreover, have you considered what you’ll do if utility workers stop showing up for work and the power or water treatment plants stop functioning? What about sanitation – where will you put all that waste, especially if the sewage system goes down along with other utilities?

For those with country retreats or survival “bug outs” and the means to go off-grid, the solution is easy. For those living in cities, working full-time jobs, and kids at school it becomes a daunting task.

Nonetheless, Drudge is right. What happens if this virus continues to spiral out of control and the medical system can no longer handle it? Despite our purportedly advanced health care infrastructure, what if we go the way of West Africa? What if the CDC can’t stop it?

Then, self quarantine becomes the only viable means of prevention.

You absolutely cannot depend on the government to protect you this time. If Ebola spreads, your ability to prevent infection and survive will come down to one factor: YOU.

Are you ready for this possibility?

            THE WHITE HOUSE,
            October 16, 2014.
            – – – – – – –

ORDERING THE SELECTED RESERVE AND CERTAIN INDIVIDUAL READY RESERVE MEMBERS OF THE ARMED FORCES TO ACTIVE DUTY

By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, including sections 121 and 12304 of title 10, United States Code, I hereby determine that it is necessary to augment the active Armed Forces of the United States for the effective conduct of Operation United Assistance, which is providing support to civilian-led humanitarian assistance and consequence management support related to the Ebola virus disease outbreak in West Africa. In furtherance of this operation, under the stated authority, I hereby authorize the Secretary of Defense, and the Secretary of Homeland Security with respect to the Coast Guard when it is not operating as a service in the Navy, under their respective jurisdictions, to order to active duty any units, and any individual members not assigned to a unit organized to serve as a unit of the Selected Reserve, or any member in the Individual Ready Reserve mobilization category and designated as essential under regulations prescribed by the Secretary concerned, and to terminate the service of those units and members ordered to active duty.

This order is not intended to, and does not, create any right or benefit, substantive or procedural, enforceable at law or in equity by any party against the United States, its departments, agencies, or entities, its officers, employees, or agents, or any other person.

it’s a handy way to get rid of the right wing gun carrying vets.
My son works at a grocery store and has seen people wearing N95 masks in public. If you don’t have some you may too late. Get them now if you can.

              • Pavo Nurmi says:

N95 are not sufficient. only N100 RESPIRATORS will work

              • the renegade braveheart says:

Ed, are you against private gun ownership? If so, you’re in the wrong place.

              • buttcrackofdoom says:

@pavo…on the contrary, while n95 masks may not be as good as n100, you will be vastly more protected than if you wear NOTHING! I BELIEVE that the BIGGEST benefit of having that mask on is you won’t be putting ANYTHING in your mouth. open a door with virus on it and 5 minutes later, you stick your finger in your nose, or pick your teeth, or scrape a piece of fuzz off your tongue….or……if wearing a mask of ANY kind you are prevented/reminded not to put anything in your mouth or nose until you remove the mask to eat or drink, at which time you would WASH hands thoroughly! so yes, those n95 masks will be effective.

              • ANYONE ELSE OUT THERE STARTING TO NOTICE THE CATCH PHRASE IN PRINT AND AUDIO OF “OUT OF AN ABUNDANCE OF CAUTION”

                ????

              • Buttcrack, a n95 mask does not form a complete and tight seal to your face, so ebola and other airborne or droplet borne particles can get in. Nor does it provide eye protection, which is a route of infection for many germs and viruses. This is how over 400 plus healthcare workers caught ebola with over 200 dying from it. The 95 mask removes 95% of 1-5 micron particles. The 100 mask removes 99.7% of particles 1-5 microns in size. Since you only need to catch 5-7 Ebola virus particles to get ebola. Get a full face respirator with p100 filters.

              • NewVegasBadger says:

@Ed, with all due respect, would you kindly pull your head out of your ass, sir. It is the LEFT wing gun nuts that you ought to worry about. It is the Che’s of the world who openly admit that the love and enjoy murdering people solely because some one disagrees with them. Your average NRA member will NOT state he wants to kill you. But I have read of several well know Lefties how have stated that they would murder if they could get away with it.
For the record, I do believe in the right to carry a gun. I do believe it is evil to wish for the death of anyone, just because you don’t like their opinions. Per the commandment from God: You shall NOT commit murder! That is what we vets would call a direct order. Sir I do hope you will reconsider your position on wishing for the death via Ebola of “right wing gun carrying vets”. What you are wishing for is evil. Please repent of that.

Sure, Barack. You can count on me. Hold the plane, I’m almost there.

            • Actually you need P95/P100 masks/respirators as they catch aerosol particles. N95/N100 masks do not. Don’t take the chance and think it can’t be transmitted via aerosol (coughing, vomiting, flushing toilets, etc). Additionally, R-rated masks are for oil based particles like diesel fumes.

Yes the “Ultimate Bug-In” If you were to study the habits of one of the Richest Men on the planet, Warren Buffet, he uses a common theme for his success, and what he looks for, when purchasing “Under valued companies” and that is the trait of “DURABLE COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE.” Meaning that this company prospective has captured a market share with products that nobody can steal on a whim, such as a cut and paste Joke which has no durable competitive advantage. And what Buffet likes to create to protect that Product is a “Moat.” Just like the old Castles that had Moats built around them to protect the castle from breaches or penetration. We in our daily lives can create “MOATS” also. We can build them around our homes, our preps and also our relationships, so that no matter what, nobody is going to come in on a whim and be a home wrecker. It is almost a militaristic approach of how to protect yourself, like a computers firewall, multiple layers of protection. One thing Warren Buffet laughs at, as many other investors flock to, is technology companies or stocks. And Buffet shy’s away from them, and here is why, as he has said in the past. Tech Corporations will spend hundreds of Millions on R&D (research and development), and even more to roll out a product, and with in a short period, a simple competitor can produce a product out of his own garage that can be better than this large corporation’s product. Which will reflect that this large corporation has NO DURABLE COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE for their products. Take computer monitors for example where billions of them lay in waste in dumps in third world countries. So how can this “MOAT theory” relate to us as preppers? With layers of protection, individual protection of our intellectual property, face masks to defend against Ebola, stocking up on food so we don’t have to wander off to the Public Grocery store every few days, exposing our most valuable assets, and that is US or our families. So build a “MOAT” around everything you wish to protect. You can check these terms I listed above on any internet search with Warren Buffet’s name. That is his theory of success. And I would agree.

Here’s what’s weird. The Bakken went into full development mid 2000’s after a half century of dormancy to serve as NWO oil/energy supply once the M.E. sources were out of bounds due to their planned ‘Arab Spring’. thousands of Ebola country West African nationals are now up there working. Yet not a single case of Ebola.
My guess is 2 places there wont be any outbreak- there and Israel.
            Hmmm…

          • Winston Smith says:

Is it just me or has anyone else noticed that bottled water seems to be in short supply? I went last night to the local Wal Mart and all of the lower priced, store brand gallons of drinking water were sold out. This is not usually the case and makes me happy that I had started to stock up on it back when everyone still thought I was nuts for worrying about ebola. Now all I gotta do is figure out an inexpensive way to purify swimming pool water and rain water and I should be set.

            • TruthIsAll says:

A Sawyer mini water filter supposedly lasts for 100,000 gallons for $20. That would certainly be effective for personal drinking use. Otherwise you might as well get a RO filter. The ones for hydroponics are cheaper, but pretty much do the same thing for much cheaper than the house units.

There’s some debate whether or not you need minerals from water. I’m on the side that disagrees with that. You get most of your minerals from food.

            • Warchild Dammit! says:

Ferguson area Walmarts pull ammo from their shelves as tension builds – On Wednesday afternoon, the empty shelves at Maplewood looked like there had been a mass purchase of ammunition. But according to an employee, it was locked up in the back.

              • Winston Smith says:

I have access to about 10,000 gallons of water in my back yard pool and will probably be augmenting it either with rain water barrels or by redirecting the gutters from my roof into it (and through some sort of settlement tank to keep the amount of aggregate from the shingles to an absolute minimum). The thing I worry about is excessive chlorine content once I finally get it up and running again. Then again, if electrical power is lost it will no longer be chlorinated and filtered, so I will stock up on pool shock (I need it anyways). I also stocked up on drinking water in clear plastic bottles and plan to use them to leave water out in the sun to kill bacteria and viruses (as a first measure in water purification).

“Hate,” you say? THIS is hate:

God created them [goyim] in the form of men for the glory of Israel… for the sole end of ministering unto them [the Jews] day and night. Nor can they ever be relieved of this service. It is becoming to the son of a king [an Israelite] that animals in their natural form and animals in the form of human beings should minister unto him. Midrash Talpioth 225a

“…’living soul’ designates Israel because they are children of the Almighty, and their souls, which are holy, come from Him. From whence come the souls of other peoples? R[abbi] Eleazar said: ‘They obtain souls from those sides of the left which convey impurity, and therefore they are all impure and defile those who have contact with them.’…’living soul’ refers to Israel, who have holy living souls from above, and ‘cattle and creeping things and beasts of the earth,’ to the other peoples who are not ‘living soul,” but who are as we have said.” Bereshith 47a

“Gentile souls are of a completely different and inferior order. They are totally evil, with no redeeming qualities whatsoever… their material abundance derives from supernal refuse. Indeed, they themselves derive from refuse, which is why they are more numerous than the Jews…” Abraham Foxbrunner. Habad: The Hasidism of Schneur Zalman of Lyady. Northvale NJ: Jason Aronson Inc., 1983. Pp. 108-109.

Because Gentiles are not human, Gentiles are owed no debt of morality or decency – not honesty [Baba Kamma 113a], not property [Baba Mezia 24a], not even life! — “Kill even the best of the gentiles”…

Chabad’s rabbis discuss Maimonides’ advice on killing Gentiles:
“…although our Sages declared, ‘Kill even the best of the gentiles,’ and that, as mentioned above, the Rambam [Maimonides] states in Hilchot Melachim 8:10 that any gentile who does not accept the seven universal laws commanded to Noah and his descendants should be slain. These directives, however. can be interpreted to apply only in a time of war or in a time when the Jews have control over the gentiles.”

And their genocidal precepts are not merely theoretical.

“Chosen People” (Gavril Princeps and most of his co-assassins) started World War ONE—25 million died.

“Chosen People” (the 1933 Declaration of War of World Jewry against Germany) started World War TWO—60 to 80 million died.

“Chosen People” created (Rabbi Moses Hess and his disciple, son of a rabbi Marx), financed (Rosenwald, Kuhn, Loeb, Schiff, etc.), propagandized (Ehrenburg, Mikhoels, Khaldei, etc.) exported (Kun, Eisner, Zimanas, Rozanski, Pijade, Rakosi, Olszewsi, etc.), and mostly ran (Lenin, Trotsky, Zinoviev, Sverdlov, Litvinov, Andropov, etc.) Communism, their secret police (Beria, Yagoda, Bronstein, Yurovsky, Pauker, Slutsky, Gay, Speigelglas, Babel, etc.), and gulags (the Kaganovich family, Berman, Frenkel, Firin, Rappoport, Kogan, Zhuk, etc.)—60 million murdered in the USSR; if you blame Hess and Marx for Mao, add another 75 million dead.

The synagogue of Satan is responsible, directly and indirectly, for the murder of nearly a QUARTER BILLION PEOPLE in the 20th century.

How many will you let them kill in the 21st century?

We would need a hundred thousand cases of Ebola in the US, for it to be as deadly as riding in an automobile.

The secondary Ebola transmissions appear at this point to be due to ignorance and poor training. Even if Obama continues to make poor choices seemingly to bring Ebola to the US on purpose. The medical community will learn what they need to, to survive.

Never the less I don’t want to discourage anyone from being prepared. In fact use this potential disaster as an excuse. Start by working up a three months supply of stored food, improve your homes security, work out plans for various disaster scenarios relevant to your location.

        • Plan twice, prep once says:

Replying to self. Since I posted this I have read that someone from Liberia flying to NY Kennedy international airport reportedly died mid-flight after projectile vomiting profusely.

Airline officials assured reporters that the passenger didn’t have Ebola!

Yeah I think a trip to the big box bulk store to round out my supplies is in order.

I will stock up on all supplies. I just finished an inventory of supplies in my basement, and double checked expiration dates on existing supplies.

By the way a criticle food stuff for people recovering from severe diarrhea and vomiting is rice. Any mother knows the process of transitioning a baby to solid food. After WW2 many in the death camps died simply because the US military lacked the proper foods to give people whose digestive systems have collapsed.

I looked at those waterproof to the shoulder gloves that they sell at Harbor Freight. A bit pricey but hmm I may go back. I did pick up a couple boxes of super heavy duty 9mil Nitrile Gloves.

            • Plan twice, prep once says:

Their is truth in your words grasshopper!

I started prepping seriously because of Y2K, that disaster did not materialize, but I used those supplies soon after when a once in a hundred year storm wiped out our water supply, electricity for a day and phone and Internet for a week.

I replenished and improved supplies, which came in handy when we had the region shut down for three days because of three feet of snow.

I replenished and improved supplies, which came in real handy when the hurricane killed power for ten days and shut down grocery stores for three weeks.

The disasters I’ve seen have served to help me tune my preparations. So yeah don’t let a disaster go to waste, learn from them. The difference between me and Rham is I don’t use disaster to institute underhanded and illegal policy etc that ultimately hurt and abuse people!

The person was actually from Nigeria, they did die after vomiting profusely on a flight that arrived at NY Kennedy airport.

Turns out they did not have Ebola after a visual inspection by the CDC, blood samples yet to confirm this.

In my remark I never said they had Ebola, but it was a potential Ebola moment.

My remark was intended to say that yes it would be a freaking disaster if someone with active Ebola lost it mid flight over the Atlantic. There might be dozens of people infected in moments.

The shear terror of getting the most minor drop of vomit on you because you simply sat near someone who was sick. Terrifying!

My brother took the published early visible symptoms of Ebola and fed them into a web medical diagnosis guide. The site returned the names of 70 different possible diseases that could produce Ebola like symptoms. Right now the big key is asking a patient if they’ve been to East Africa. Ok what if you were just on a plane from Europe, or had been to Dallas. The minute Ebola gets any kind of foothold in the Us or elsewhere, that East Africa connection, is no longer key.

        • Dean GULberry says:

I know some nurses. It won’t take 100K cases for them to stop showing up for work. One patient effectively closed down the ER at THP. Who is going to go there for any other type of medical care, even after the first nurse has now been moved?

      • Plan twice, prep once says:

We would need a hundred thousand cases of Ebola in the US, for it to be as deadly as riding in an automobile.

The secondary Ebola transmissions appear at this point to be due to ignorance and poor training. Even if Obama continues to make poor choices seemingly to bring Ebola to the US on purpose. The medical community will learn what they need to, to survive.

Never the less I don’t want to discourage anyone from being prepared. In fact use this potential disaster as an excuse. Start by working up a three months supply of stored food, improve your homes security, work out plans for various disaster scenarios relevant to your location.

Yes, it is 70% now, as of the latest numbers. Keep in mind the numbers have been and continue to be manipulated.

            • I don’t doubt they are being manipulated at all. But the numbers were around 4000 some odd dead with over 8600 confirmed cases…..now that was two days ago. But still, I don’t think that it has jumped all the way up to 70% in a few days. AND if the numbers are manipulated…..we really have no idea what % the mortality rate is….right?

            • Mieszko I says:

              BJ,

8600 is cases You do not die instantly from Ebola so therefore the number of deaths will lag behind the number of cases

            • ready down under says:

BJ – the deaths are 4,500, infections at about 9,600 in round figures to make it easy. But mortality doesn’t work that way – the deaths are an absolute but of the infections there are a lot who have only recently been diagnosed and (to put morbidly but I cant think of any polite way to say it) “haven’t been sick long and havent had time to die yet”.

The mortality rate in Africa for common folk is 70-80%
For medical professionals it is 57%

Why the difference. The medical centers likely hoard special supplies for their own. They have better food and follow up care. What could a medical professional have access to that common folk don’t? Things like whole blood transfusions, coagulants, IV drips to stay hydrated, O2.

We watched as just one Ebola patient shut down an entire large hospital in Dallas. This is very serious, the are accepting no new patients. Locals who get sick or injured must go elsewhere!

Understand that after WW2 people liberated from the Nazi death camps continued to die because their digestive systems had collapsed. They couldn’t process food and the food that US soldiers had to give them actually made it worse.

Think of the difficult process of switching a baby to solid food. For a prepper supply do you have lots of rice and a Pedialite equivalent to supplement electrolytes?

      • Walt Kowalski says:

        @Old Guy….

Of course I realize that some people just refuse to look at the math. But….I’m going to tell you to anyway.

Whether you want to admit it or not, yes…Ebola IS spreading at an exponential rate. Just because it has not made its way to Calcutta does not mean that its spread is NOT exponential.

Why don’t you pull your head out of your backside and look at the numbers….and also do a little reading on how an exponential function works. Or do you have terminal cranial/rectal inversion as well?

Normally, I’d be a little more patient. But there has been ample discussion of this, with posted links along with the data to prove it.

Your response to this is the classic, “Well…I haven’t seen it, so it isn’t happening.” Your line of thinking goes along with the CDC’s and the other government apparatchiks. Their motto could be, “We don’t know what we don’t know.”

      • fishandmud says:

@ Nathan Cline : I don’t agree. The pandemic is auto deaths. How many every day, hour , or minute ? I don’t pretend to know the numbers, but how many people in africa have died because of ebola in the last 365 days? Now, how many in the USA? Now, how many people have died of aids, cancer, auto accidents, ran over by a train, dog bites, etc, etc, etc? None of those are pandemics, are they ? A couple thousand at most have died in the last year, right ? How many gang related deaths in the last year? I am not saying that it is not a big deal, but, the numbers really need to go up to become a pandemic, don’t they?

On another note, if you are going to bug in, why do you need a protective suit? Why have a sick room just in case? If your hole family is living together, and all of a sudden somebody gets sick, don’t it stand to reason that if this is a pandemic that it would be too late for everybody else in the house. And what do you mean, don’t go back into the sick room until you have it professionally sterilized? What are you gonna do, call the FEMA cleaners? Some of the Tess article seems to contradict itself, IMO. Am I prepared to bug in, YES, but I am kinda thinking that this is a serious false flag event. They are damn sure trying like hell to push it in here.

Ebola is very susceptible to UV-C light. These lights are inexpensive. Amazon lists many different types and most are under $50. It would be reasonable to place clothing, bedding, and other items under these lights to disinfect them. However, the light only works on surfaces directly exposed to the light.

I did a quick literature review and did not find a lot of information about exposure of humans to UV-C but what I have found indicates that it might cause eye problems and skin rashes. It is unclear if it can cause skin cancer- many sources do not think so. I would be careful around it although I have heard that these lights are used for people exiting Level 4 disease research areas and I do not recall hearing about any problems in these units.

I think it is one of the least expensive, easiest to use disinfectants that is currently available.

Let’s see here… one case in the US becomes three. That is one person infecting two and that sounds like the start of an exponential rate to me. Am I scared right now? No. However it’s hard to say it’s overblown just yet because it is not under control and until it is it is impossible to say exactly what it will do. Like many other things to prep for, it has a small risk of becoming a worst case scenario but it still bears watching.

        • Merree says:

I agree with you and Kowalski. The last week in September we had one patient, Duncan. Now we have two- the two nurses. There are other possible new cases that are being mentioned but not confirmed so the number of cases could already be higher.

We do not know how this will progress but it is not impossible that there will be four cases in another two weeks. This is exponential growth. If it continues in this fashion, there will be more than 100 cases at the start of next year. The mortality appears lower here in the US but time will tell if this is an outlier or if it will hold. This would still be a small number of cases- it would take five or six months of unchecked growth to start reaching the big numbers. I think that drastic control actions would be put in place if it moves in that direction.

The case in Dallas confirms one of my big concerns. Staff in hospitals and clinics do not know how to properly quarantine patients. Throughout my career, I have seen the lack of attention to proper preventive measures. People are careless (which is why infections notoriously spread within hospitals) and very little is done to train the staff and reinforce the need for proper protection. I expect we will see more of this as we see more cases in the US.

The question is: Is this a Sandy Hook false flag or a Spanish Flu population reduction with $$ benefits for CDC and big pharma.

The scarey thing is not the ebola, it is the response of the US government and the CDC which clearly is not interested in protecting the people or preventing the spread so WHAT are they doing? What is their angle? I believe this will be used to further remove our rights like the 9/11 Patriot Act. That makes their actions are not incompetent they are treasonous.

      • WhoWuddaThunkIt says:

Notice how all the Obama Admins False Flags self-implode after they unfold. Fast n Furious, Malaysian Flight shot down in Ukraine and filled with rotting corpses, Sandy Hook/no deaths and crisis actors getting free houses a year earlier for only a $1 dollar. Boston Marathon Bombing, Restocking ISIS with military gear, Illegal Immigrants, and now Eboli. He just needs to stop for a while. Who needs enemies? Look at whet this is costing us.

@ WWTI : I don’t understand how so many people know their government is screwing with them, multible false flag events, say DON’T BELIVE THE LIBERAL MEDIA, and then the media says watch out for this false flag event ( oh I’m sorry, I meant watch out for the 2 ebola deaths, it’s a pandemic ).

Everybody reading these articals on Ebola, the pandemic, what a problem we are having, check this out. While writing this shortnote, I googled deaths in america per day. Results were as follows : 1 every 14 seconds, 6,171 every day, 187,714 every month, and 2,252,571 per year. I still say we should prepare just in case, but 2 deaths or even 10,000 in a few months, that is less than the national average by a shit load. Just in case somebody is havindg a problem, that is six thousand one hundred seventy-one per DAY. Which part of it is the pandemic? Come on people, wake up!!!!!!! Don’t let them suck you in. The election is coming. Their is something huge going on somewhere and it aint ebola.

There is not enough information out there to justify a cavalier attitude; best to err on the side of extreme safety.

There isn’t even a road going into it because all the roads in these woods (some of them made in the early-mid 1800s) have been unmaintained for decades, and have grown up so bad you can’t even tell where they were in places. There is plenty of fresh water, game, etc. The only downside is, somebody else owns the land, and I’m not 100% sure they don’t visit it on occasion. But what choice do I have though? I can’t stay in this damn trailer park, and I don’t want to be where ANY government agency knows where to find me, considering my name is probably on just about every list there is. 11. TEST says:

Frantic Oblamer – on the golf course for the past three months – is now using his TV shills to frantically try to blame Ebola on conservatives “cutting health care.” In fact, that’s all he has done the past six years, is golf and blame others. STILL no outbound travel ban (or at least 21 day quarantine before leaving) from W. Africa, EV-68 virus coming across the border, and leftists come up with this ad here (with discussion with the creator of this schlock with Hannity) https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=DM_msD0dw4w#t=4: If leftists have no problem with SIX children dead and a dozen paralyzed from EV-68 brought across the border by illegals, all so they can get their line jumpers in to vote left, why would they not stoop to using their own ineptitude on Ebola to blame anyone but themselves. The Washington Post fact checker took a look at the ad, its claims and determined it deserves four Pinocchios with a description of “absurd.” From the Post:

“This ad is simply a more extreme version of a new Democratic talking point — that GOP budget cuts have harmed the nation’s ability to handle the Ebola outbreak. It mixes statistics — the budget for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) “cut” $585 million (the ad offers no date range) — with disturbing images of the outbreak and various Republican leaders saying variations of the word “cut.” On many levels, this line of attack is absurd. Obama’s Republican predecessor oversaw big increases in public-health sector spending, and both Democrats and Republicans in recent years have broadly supported efforts to rein in federal spending. Sequestration resulted from a bipartisan agreement. In some years, Congress has allocated more money for NIH and CDC than the Obama administration requested. Meanwhile, contrary to the suggestion of the DCCC ad, there never was a specific vote on funding to prevent Ebola. There’s no doubt that spending has been cut, or at least failed to keep pace with inflation, but the fingerprints of both parties are on the knives..”

    • Smokey says:

The budget for the CDC is over $6 billion this year, and was only $2 billion in 2001.

There were no cuts in CDC budgets for disease control.

The Dems are lying through their teeth on this one, and using a crisis for political gain.

In 3 weeks, we get to vote a bunch of them out of office, in our towns and cities, counties, states, and federal congressional elections. Make it hurt ! Vote them out at every level of office in every location.

    • The Old Coach says:

Yeah, CDC sending a sole source contract to Ron Perelman’s now-bankrupt front company for an Ebola drug that didn’t even exist, while freezing out the company that makes ZMAPP, yeah, that was all the Republicans’ fault.

Re: ‘UN proposing a 70% tax on tobacco’

Tobacco does have medicinal uses. It can and has been used effectively in a homemade recipe to “de-worm” horses and other cattle.

Tobacco is also being used in producing an Ebola treatment.

Odd, that we are facing the threat of a worldwide Ebola outbreak, and yet, the U.N. would propose making the tax so high to DISCOURAGE folks from growing it.

Drug given to American Ebola patients is produced in Kentucky using TOBACCO PLANTS
“The drug being credited with potentially saving the lives of two American missionaries (Dr. Kent Brantly and Nancy Writebol) infected with the deadly Ebola virus was produced in Owensboro.

The serum wasn’t manufactured but grown — in a greenhouse full of genetically modified tobacco plants.”

“MB-003 or ZMapp, a cocktail of antibodies that has proven to be the most effective treatment so far in fighting off the Ebola virus.

In a study published last year, scientists at the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases reported that 43 percent of infected nonhuman primates recovered after receiving the treatment intravenously 104 to 120 hours after infection — after symptoms developed.”

I’ve been mulling over this scenario recently. Even though I live in bush Alaska where you’d think I’d be plenty isolated from large population problems like infectious disease, people fly in and out of here to Anchorage and beyond a couple of flights a day. Sing with me: It’s a small world after all….

At what point *does* one go into self-quarantine? I ponder this because my household policy is to go into lock down self-quarantine should the situation warrant. I just haven’t figured out my line in the sand for activating that plan. I think if it gets to where we are seeing multiple incidents across the US and especially if Seattle sees infected individuals, I’ll be staying home for a while.

    Off-Grid Worming Recipe for Horses
(Most of these items you can grow yourself.)

    Use a mixture of…
    40% sunflower and pumpkin seeds
30% tobacco leaves (or loose pipe tobacco from the store)
the rest parsley flakes and garlic.

Fill up a gallon ice cream bucket and you can worm over 20 horses with it.

According to research, intestinal worms release from the stomach and intestinal lining during the full moon to breed. The rough texture of the mixture scrapes the worms away and right out of the horses.

It is much cheaper than conventional worming. Also, the horse manure (garden fertilizer) is NOT contaminated by the chemicals in the tube wormer. Horse manure tainted with worming medication is also tainted and will kill the good worms in the soil once the manure is on the ground.”

Ivermectin products in the manure will continue to kill beneficial stuff in your soil for 28 days post worming. Daily feed through wormer like strongid will eventually sterilize your whole place. Panacure or safeguard does the least damage to your soil.

      • KY Mom says:

        Warchild,

D.E. works very well as a de-wormer in humans, cats and dogs. Whenever administering, always mix the D.E. in food with moisture.

Horse owners I know believe Diatomaceous earth may be dangerous to horses and other livestock if they inhale the dust.

So, they use other natural methods (such as the recipe above) with their livestock – horses, cows and goats.

Also, when applying D.E. in the garden, use a face mask – so you don’t breathe in the dust.

Note: Mixing a teaspoon of D.E. in a bowl of oatmeal a couple times a week can help people lower their cholesterol too.

          Hello KY,

I beleve that you are correct on the ‘inhalation’ issue. There are a few other things – known – that when inhaled are severely toxic to the respiratory tract of many mammals, including the powdered shell of many hrtd-shelled species of mollusks. Actually perfectly poisonous, in fact, as are several forms of ‘periwinkles’ (I THINK that is the one I remember…). Hawaiin’s have known that for centuries.

I spoke with my personal physician yesterday (Wed 10/15). I’ve known him for a number of years and he shared that he’d recently purchased a three-month supply of food preps for his family.

In our conversation, he said he believes that the U.S. has about 2 to 3 weeks to get a handle on Ebola. If not, he advised that we should be prepared to hunker down for 3 months.

This guy is legitimate and would be considered one of the brightest people in any room. He really isn’t a long term “prepper.” He’s just a newbie. But recent events have made him a believer. As the saying goes, better to be prepared and not need it…

    • Smokey says:

He’s being prudent, which is wise.

3 weeks for control and another 3 months of semi-quarantine is probably about right, can’t be far off the mark.

If we see a dozen cases next week or the week after, look very hard for concrete steps being taken to control it, like forced quarantine, WHO protocols, flight stoppages, entry denials, things like that. Absent that, it’s going to get worse.

    • Anonymous says:

According to one website, the UN said if we don’t have Ebola under control by Dec (2 months)… a pandemic, I believe he implied (out of control situation= pandemic)

If this thing gets bad, that might be a good thing to have about.

Also downloaded a good sharp version of the “biohazard” symbol to be printed and laminated for the outside of my house. I figure that with the current hysteria, most intruders will think “Ebola” and go elsewhere.

    • The Old Coach says:

I’ve read some evaluations of those scanner wands that showed that they don’t work too well. It takes half an hour or more of UV exposure to kill viruses on hard surfaces, longer on fabrics.

    • Y'all Beware! says:

UV light works but you must know that it works over time and UV intensity. So you need to know the UV intensity of the light and how long to expose the surface for a particular pathogen.

Ultraviolet light (UV) with wavelength shorter than 300 nanometers is extremely effective in killing microorganisms. The most effective sterilizing range of UV is within the C bandwidth (UVC – 253.7nm). This range – between 200nm and 280nm – is called germicidal UV bandwidth or UVC.

Germicidal ultraviolet lamps emit radiant energy at 253.7nm (C-Band ultraviolet or UVC) wavelength. The UVC energy photo-chemically reacts with the DNA and RNA of microorganisms – viruses, bacteria, mold and spores – sterilizing them.

Y’all Beware! No more tech stuff for now.

Whether this Ebola threat is real or a hoax, the end result might be the same, which is total panic and economic collapse. I find it very curious, that this situation developed right before the start of the so called “Flu Season”.

If I am correct, the symptoms of the Flu, and early onset Ebola are identical. Which means, anyone exhibiting these symptoms might potentially be a carrier of Ebola. Once the panic kicks in, the emergency rooms will be flooded, with no way of telling who is actually infected, this will collapse the US medical system, leading to further panic. At that point, it doesn’t matter whether the threat is real, as the collapse of the economy will follow. You can also forget about any elections, as people will refuse to congregate with others , for obvious reasons.

  33. White Fox says:

We also don’t know how many more people at Texas Presbyterian are infected.

Besides bleach, sunlight also destroys ebola. Stand in direct sunlight for an hour or longer after several bleach showers. Avoid splashing or aerosols during decon, especially if there are any helpers who should also be in hazmat. Put up tarps or thick plastic sheeting in and around the shower area, no gaps. Though sun can be hard to get with winter coming and for some that live in certain climates. If not sunlight, then germicidal ultraviolet lights (UVC) strung up in a special isolated area or room.

A two to three month stockpile of food and water (assume 1 gallon per day for each person) is the absolute minimum to have for sheltering in place during a pandemic. In addition to that, entertainment, for preservation of sanity during prolonged confinement.

    • prepper2morow says:

I disagree with the one gallon per person. Reason is to shelter in place for 200 days at two people is 400 gallons of water. I myself would find it difficult to store 400 gallons. SO my plan is 400 16 oz bottles of water and baby wipes or boiled lake water for cleaning. We store 40 cases of sams club purified water. 40 bottles each case = 200 days (32 oz per person per day) with not much sweating that should do. we also have 5,000 baby wipes for body cleaning on a daily basis. We rotate the water (two year shelf life)at about two cases per week. We also store 35 gallons in 7 gallon containers for our dog. Sams club 40 bottle cases are about $3.90 a case less than 10 cents a bottle. Also easier to throw cases of water in the truck if we need to go than 55 gallon drums.

logic tells me this is a scam.Just like Al gores glowbull warming myth. the trouble with many is you have a negative gloom & doom core concept. You hunt and try and make everything fit into the parameters of a preconceived final outcome. I stated it before there are folks who want every black person gone from Africa. they want them all extinct. Why? because they want the land and the wealth that can be gleaned from it. So they made a new strain of Ebola that specificly targrets blacks. Its nothing new. Under manifest destiny we gave the native americans blankets with small pox. The small pox was very effective in killing Indians. However small pox also killed other races just not nearly as many.. Those other races where considered colleratal damage. This is nothing new. Its two fold plan kill the blacks and sell the antidote to make big money. So what if innocent people die they don’t care. The USA bombs countries and kills innocents quite often. And its part of Agenda 21 to reduce population. bring on the red thumbs.

    • SheepDawg says:

“Under manifest destiny we gave the native americans blankets with small pox” –

Seriously, name names but don’t lump me or any other American in with that ‘we did that’ nonsense. All that I can find referring to small pox blankets comes down to one individual, Lord Jeffrey Amherst as the person who most likely committed that act. Not the entire country, nor was this a policy or doctrine. Again, please cite your references to this tripe, liberal fallacy used to demonize Americans writ large. Source documents for your blanket accusations please (pun intended).

      • The Old Coach says:

Agreed. No legit historian I have read has ever been able to show that Europeans deliberately infected American aborigines with smallpox. (I’ve never heard of Lord Amherst, however.) But nobody had to do it deliberately – smallpox moves quite nicely on its’ own. Smallpox was endemic in European populations, and had been for centuries. Select any 1000 men under 30 years old, and you’d find one or two infectious carriers.

BTW the American aborigines had already had their revenge. There was no syphilis in Europe until Columbus’ men brought it back.

Be thinking about typhus, too. If sanitation breaks down in a city, typhus is never far behind.

        • Mr Rodgers says:

          Evening Coach,

Oh Yes, the native poplation deintely did get it’ revenge via Syphilis…a disease that sevral yeas ago wa determined to be almost ‘innocuous’ to them…endemic, yet predominatly asymptomatic. The irony there is rather rich, isn’t it?

Per the polio issue, point in fact , the bulk o that came inadvertantly – as you sate – as the BIA (Bureau of Indian Affairs) sent urplus – ‘used’ blankets carrying the virus in amongst the tribes. The efect wa devstating yes, but no one has ever detremined that is was intentional…there is a LOT of mis-information going around in the ‘younger generations’ to be sure.

similarly, most are not aware of how the bulk of the African slaves came here. The regnant belief ‘on the street’ is that ‘slavering RAVID slabers’ ransacked billade wholesale in Africa, then trnsported them here for eternal bondage. Nothing could be farther from the truth. The ship Captains logs from hundreds of those trips werre histircaly analyzed just some few years ago and “Lo and Behold”, the tale told is overwhelmingly one of those simply going to relatively large citis, to slaveomarkets and BUYING thier westbound cargoes…by the boat-load.

History is a funny thing, ain’t it? sometimes the victors even FORGET it…and those who do not KNOW thier history….well, we know what happens to those.

Enjoy the weekend!…the ones to come may not be quite so ‘relaxed’….in few more weeks. ;(

          • The Old Coach says:

Looked up that Lord Amherst reference. True, he did at least advocate giving the abos infected blankets. So I’ve been under a misapprehension all these years.

For the casual reader, this happened during what we call the French and Indian War, in the 1760s, prior to our Revolution. The British Parliament blanched at the cost, and decided to screw it out of our hides, without so much as a by-your-leave, which was one major causative factor for our Revolution.

I grew up hearing about the French and Indian War, since it over-ran my home town at one point. A factor contributing to Europeans’ hatred of the north american aborigines was their fondness for torture, which in many cases make ISIS look like a troop of boy scouts. The tribes were not the peaceful, natural people that the modern liberal would have you believe. They were constantly at war with one another, in the most brutal fashion imaginable.

      • Old Guy says:

anyone who doesn’t believe that back in the 1800,s the starvation & killing of the native americans wasn’t on purpose is a denialist. Research the battle of wounded knee. We killed the buffalo to starve the plains tribes. Kit Carson whos wife was native American helped the srmy kill the buffalo and cut down the pinion pines (to elemenate the pinion nuts) in orderto starve his own wifes people into submidssion. The US army shot thousands of horses to starve gernomino,s tribe. We simply ran the NEZ Pierce from their land,s . The Nez Pierce had never broke any treaty or killed white men. Now Of course everything when boiled down to it is simply a matter of opinion. My opinion is the Indians where given smallpox blankets on purpose. Yours is it was accidental. The Indians died in droves just the same. White men took the land just the same.

I have been considering this very thing.. and thank God, I am more than ready to lock down and not have to leave my place for anything except the direst of personal emergencies for several years… yes, several years.

BUT, that being said, during my thoughts on this very thing.. something was bugging me. Currently, far more than 25000 people die every year from the flu. The last I heard less than 5000 people world wide had died of Ebola…perhaps this is no longer correct, but I don’t seem to be hearing numbers anymore.. just panic stricken news-people and politicians. Makes me really wonder.. gee.. Ebola is not new.. they’ve had it in Africa for well over 10 years.. far less people have been killed by this thing than die annually in the US from the flu.. this thing just isn’t passing the smell test.. I think I’ll hold off locking the gate for a little while longer.

This thing is looking to much like a pandemic.. and I’m glad… but it makes me really wonder just why all the powers that be are getting their panties all in a wad over it.. perhaps it will turn out really bad.. but something seems rotten here to me.

    • oUCH says:

Im more afraid of catching the flu from that gathering than EBOLA.

    • Anonymous says:

OUCH, LOOK UP EXPONENTIAL GROWTH AND WONDER NO MORE ABOUT EBOLA…

OR, you can look at it this way…

These people were trying explain exponential growth and how it doubles constantly (using the example of a petri dish with viruses or whatever)…

At first, it doesn’t seem that bad (the doubling effect). 1 virus, then 2 viruses, then 4 viruses, then 8, etc…

But when the petri dish is half full of viruses and the next doubling effect takes effect, how much of the petri dish would contain viruses? the answer, of course, is the dish would be completely full… so it went from being half full to the next doubling= a full dish. So one minute things don’t seem that bad, then suddenly, all hell breaks loose.

      • Anonymous says:

And… they are saying that the number of Ebola cases in Liberia, etc, is doubling every 3 weeks… and the numbers of deaths from it is also doubling every 3 weeks… and the CDC is saying that by January, there will be 1.4 million cases of it if they don’t somehow get this thing under control. And it seems (from what the UN says) that the virus is winning the battle.

Why was it not so bad before? (yes, its been in existence since the 70’s)… because back then, the virus ran out of victims– they all died off and so did the virus… because it happened in small villages… this time the outbreak took place in large city… and now the virus has the potential of a world-wide snack, if we don’t stop it… somehow.

        • oUCH says:

Anon.. I understand exponential growth.. point is, I ain’t seen it so far. They’ve had it there over 10 years with some of the most impoverished conditions and extremely poor if any medical care.. you’d think it would have reached pandemic status already on it’s home turf.. but unless I’ve missed some big numbers update.. it has not. As I pointed out earlier.. well over 25K people die in the US per year of the flu.. yet, no one panics and declares a pandemic. Could it turn into one with the stunning buffoonery going on in our Gov. handling of this ? Could be.. hope not.. but could be.

          • oUCH says:

And you may well have a point regarding the die off of precious victims and it’s outbreak in major cities.. I’ll give it some more thought..

          • Merree says:

Past outbreaks of Ebola occurred in areas that were able to self quarantine and stop the spread of disease. That has not happened this time around because it hit more dense populations and those populations did not act to contain the disease. Proper measures are still not in place in many areas in Africa.

Influenza has killed more people that Ebola. That’s why there is a big campaign every fall to get people vaccinated. Some government officials become almost rabid about flu vaccines.

There are many causes of death that are more common than Ebola. At least for the moment. There are more deadly diseases around too. We have one or two rabies deaths per year in the US. It is 100% fatal. But there is very little media attention.

Part of the problem is our society thrives on crisis and this is the current focus. It gives the news outlets something easy to report and takes attention away from economic woes as an election is approaching.

Lockheed Martin Claims Fusion Breakthrough That Could Change World Forever

Lockheed Martin, the aerospace and defense conglomerate based in Bethesda, Md., is claiming to have made a major breakthrough in nuclear fusion, which could lead to development of reactors small enough to fit on the back of a truck within a decade.

In the simplest terms, nuclear fission breaks a single atom into two whereas nuclear fusion combines two atoms into one.

Fusion, the holy grail of nuclear power, creates three to four times as much energy as fission. More importantly, fusion’s key advantage over fission is that it does not produce cancer-causing radioactive waste.

Tom McGuire, who heads the project, told Reuters that his team had been working on fusion energy at Lockheed’s Skunk Works program for the past four years, but decided to go public with the news now to recruit additional partners in industry and government to support their work.

Last year, while speaking at Google’s Solve for X program, Charles Chase , a research scientist at Skunk Works, described Lockheed’s effort to build a trailer-sized fusion power plant that turns cheap and plentiful hydrogen (deuterium and tritium) into helium plus enough energy to power a small city.

“It’s safe, it’s clean, and Lockheed is promising an operational unit by 2017 with assembly line production to follow, enabling everything from unlimited fresh water to engines that take spacecraft to Mars in one month instead of six,” Evan Ackerman wrote in a post about Chase’s Google talk on Dvice.

The key breakthrough involves using a “magnetic bottle” to contain the vast amount of heat, which rises into the hundreds of millions of degrees, created by the nuclear reaction. Containing and controlling the staggering levels of heat and pressure involved has hampered countless previous efforts to use fusion for generating electricity. The challenges associated with controlling the heat and pressure created by nuclear fusion has been especially difficult at smaller scales, which makes Lockheed’s claimed breakthrough all the more impressive.

“By containing this reaction, we can release [the heat] in a controlled fashion to create energy we can use,” Lockheed said in a statement. “The heat energy created using this compact fusion reactor will drive turbine generators by replacing the combustion chambers with simple heat exchangers. In turn, the turbines will then generate electricity or the propulsive power for a number of applications.”

Lockheed said in a statement that it would build a pilot fusion reactor in the next year.

If it works, the world will be a different place.

But in the meantime the emphasis should remain on the word “if.”

    • Smokey says:

We’ll see if they can do it, definitely a world-changer if it’s workable.

Let me be the first to point out that the envirofascists will have a big problem with unlimited energy, since it would mean we wouldn’t have to live in 1903 and wear hempen clothing or ride bicycles 20 miles a day.

They won’t give a rat about fossil fuels, coal, dams, methane, CO2, or any of that, it’s about controlling people.

My God man, the heat! How???

But if this works, we’re pretty much done. This is not just the Holy Grail of nuclear energy, it’s the Holy Grail PERIOD.

      • Mr Rodgers says:

        Good Evening Guy,

“My God man, the heat! How???”

Yep, been wondering that myself. I saw this article last night and wondered that for some time. The classic ‘Tokamac’ as s toroidial containment places some rather severe limts on just how small the chamber can be. If the contained, confined plasma occupys the (near) center of the ciruclar cross-section of the cavity then in something that is “the size of a large truck” (quoting the artilce here), then you likely have something like 6-15 Million C temperature gas only – Oh say – 18 inches from the containment walls? Yes?

Same here..’How the Hell dey do dat?!” Stephens law applies here (obviously so the power output varies as the forth power of the temperature…the fourth power of 10 M celcius gas? Whoa, “how dey do dat’ indeed.

I met Ron Hulse (Nobel prize Laureate) once when I was a “phys under” and at that point he was working on containment issues; that was after they had found the optical counterparts to the pulsars, that earned him that prize)…it WAS fsacinating to listen to him describing what they were finding out. I do stay abreast of this particular endeavor rather well and – -just maybe here – they are over-estimating their abilities in this matter…for exactly the reason you noted! Still, “someday my dream will come….”

Limitless and free to all, ‘a DREAM’ indeed.

Bot a Tokamak? Interesting, I did see something up a few month ago, about a configuration that had ‘mug handles’ on it…proximately spherical in bulk, but I didn’t hear anything about it afterwards, neither thought it was at that level of development.

To be SURE…IF fuion could be attaines in a relatively compact package, Shew-we…the entire GAME changes instantly, forever more. We can only hope that that cold GET to the population broadly – and NOT be detoured by ‘vested interest’ – where we could make use of it generally. OTOH, if that were detoured, it would give someone an entirely new paradigm from which to operate; that might NOT benfit US at all…could – very well – be the other way around. Oh well, we can always HOPE. LEFT another message elsewhere hereabouts for you, commmented on your ‘polio’ post.

            Well, Adios Friends.

        • Archivist says:

I thought the magnetic bottle idea was thought up decades ago. I seem to remember reading about it in Omni or Scientific American. We still don’t have fusion energy on any scale, yet Lockheed is going to make miniature fusion reactors? It’s like going straight from Vannevar Bush’s idea of the memex to internet on smartphones in one step. Why haven’t they built full-size reactors yet? Or have I missed something?

          • Socrates says:

            @Archivist

            Yep…you missed it alright. 😉

Actually they, as in the U.S. Gov., have been using small scale ‘Cold-Fusion type’ reactors to power small vehicles and such for a number of years now. Don’t even ask me how I know. I’m kind of surprised at the Lockheed announcement myself.

I do wonder if this will be the ‘changing of the guard’ so to speak, in relation to our hydro carbon based fuels world. The Oil prices lately have been getting punished, surprise? Timing IS everything. The age of Aquarius IS supposed to be the ‘Age of Enlightenment’ is it not?

          • Mr Rodgers says:

            Ahh! A!

            Evening Friend!

The fusion problem is ‘sticky’ to say the least! In order to bild a Tokamak that doesn’t exceed the thermal stress that the walls of the physical containment can tolerate, the SIZE of the containment must go UP quite a ways; roughly boxcar size. There are some novel, new configurations that have come out just recently, but to my knowledge none are developed to any degree yet.

One that I heard about roughly a month or two ago, was really an ‘oddball’; almost a tokamak within a tokamak. In that, the basic idea was to circulate the plasma a s pure fluid – not axially within the unit but on a path that takes it around the circumference of the minor diameter of that. The design postulated would NOT lebd itself to anything compact…far from it since thier idea was to get the ‘fluid going and then to initiate a reaction ina void in the dead-center of a SPHERICAL containment that duplicates ‘magnetic’ tokamac within it.

I beleive that the notion was that the circulating gas would both act as a shield (limited), a thermal transfer medium and if done right, an inertial confinement/reaction prompter, all simultaneously. Yeah, this si one og those things that are really hard to convey simply in words..it did seemed to have some few merits for all that.

Mercy, me be TIRED today!…so I be headin on to sleepy-land. Adios Friend, enjoy thw weekend!

•*OBAMA ISSUES EXECUTIVE ORDER FOR ARMED FORCES IN WEST AFRICA
•*OBAMA TO ACTIVATE INDIVIDUAL READY RESERVE FOR EBOLA

What is The Individual Ready Reserve? (via Wikipedia)

The Individual Ready Reserve (IRR)is a category of the Ready Reserve of the Reserve Component of the Armed Forces of the United States composed of former active duty or reserve military personnel and is authorized under 10 U.S.C. ch. 1005.

For soldiers in the National Guard of the United States, its counterpart is the Inactive National Guard (ING). As of 22 June 2004, the IRR had approximately 112,000 members (does not include all service IRR populations) composed of enlisted personnel and officers, with more than 200 Military Occupational Specialties are represented, including combat arms, combat support, and combat service support.

KIRBY: Afternoon, everybody. I’m proud to welcome into the briefing room General David Rodriguez, commander of Africa Command. He’s here to give you an update on U.S. contributions to the effort against Ebola — U.S. military contributions to the effort against Ebola in West Africa. And with that, sir, I’ll turn it over to you.

QUESTION: Just a clarification on that, please. Will they be in contact with individuals or just specimens?

GENERAL DAVID M. RODRIGUEZ (USA), COMMANDER, U.S. AFRICA COMMAND: They come in contact with the individuals and they do that. And they’re — like I said, it’s a — it’s a very, very high standard that these people have operated in all their lives, and this is their primary skill. This is not a — you know, just medical guys trained to do this. This is what they do for a living.

    As USA Today reports,

President Obama has issued an executive order calling up ready reserve troops to combat the Ebola crisis in Africa.

Obama notified Congress of his order Thursday. It reads: “I hereby determine that it is necessary to augment the active Armed Forces of the United States for the effective conduct of Operation United Assistance, which is providing support to civilian-led humanitarian assistance and consequence management support related to the Ebola virus disease outbreak in West Africa.”

The Pentagon said it had no immediate plans to send reservists to Africa, saying that the order simply allows the military to begin utilizing reserve/guard forces in our overall response in Northern Africa.

It “doesn’t mean that we are deploying these forces, but it gives us the option to do so if we need to,” said Air Force Lt. Col. Thomas Crosson, a Pentagon spokesman.

The White House said it didn’t know exactly how many reserve troops would eventually be required.

    • Old Guy says:

Great Britain – We are sending ground forces into West Africa to combat the deadly virus, ‘ebola’, and we are sending humanitarian aid to combat the terrorist organisation, ‘ISIS’.

How we ever won two world wars I’ll never know.

      • Kulafarmer says:

Most likely pure dumb luck from the crap Ive been reading over the years,,

      • lonelonemum says:

old guy google the ebola panic at lewisham hospital last weekend.

with exports like piers morgan, and simon cowell as well as our political leadership it’s getting embarrassing to be a Brit.

Thank God the working classes are still made of sterner stuff.

    • Kulafarmer says:

I sure hope these ready reserve folks think that one through real hard, if he takes as good care of them as he does the rest of the vets and others, they are in for a horrible death,, they should storm DC instead, screw that NiTWH, I didnt used to be prejiduce, now I am, selectively, folks like Ben Carson, or the Guy who is on DWTS who used to be Carlton on the Fresh Prince,, or Eddie Murphy, they are all good,,, but the dip shit in the WH and the idiots who loot and burn and rape and murder,,, they can all go back to the trees because they are no better than a bunch of freakin baboons,, Im sure we got plenty of idiot white trash that can go with em,

  42. aljamo says:

I don’t know what the hell is going on with this Ebola mess, and I don’t know what to believe from any source. It does seem intentional if the threat is real and a cover for other deeds quickly approaching. The only thing I am 100 percent sure of is that I won’t be taking any mandated shot ordered by anybody. I have VA appointments coming up and I’m skipping those too until the all clear is given.

    • Navy Vet says:

al … I’ve been thinking about that my self. I’ve got one coming up next month which I’m not to concerned about and another should be due in February, about the time this thing is predicted to be going full retard. Problem is, if I don’t keep the Feb. appt. I probably won’t be able to get my cholesterol med renewed. I guess if there are no reported cases in the area by then, I’ll probably be OK.

Now before all of you great contributors start recommending alternative, non-pharma remedies for cholesterol, I’ve tried them all over the last 20 years. The only thing that works for me is prescription meds. I’m not saying that non-pharma remedies don’t work, they just don’t work for me.

      • Mr. Anonymous says:

Those meds will screw up your liver at some point. Fix one problem, cause another.

        • Ghost Rider says:

          Navy;
Not going to suggest any alternative meds for the cholesterol… just relaying what my doc told me. Her words “stop taking meds for cholesterol”.

I eat very well, no drugs, stay away (for the most part) from all the junk out there. And my cholesterol is elevated. My Dr says my body just produces more cholesterol than “normal” people.

She showed me a statistic (sorry I have no link) but basically it showed that even with all these people taking meds for cholesterol that the number of heart issues continues to remain the same.

There should be a significant improvement if taking meds to lower it actually did anything.

          just my .02

          GR

          • aljamo says:

I’ve read so much about the cholesterol drugs being pushed by the medical establishment on the internet. Their consensus is that they are not needed and do more damage than good for patients diagnosed with high cholesterol. My VA doc has been pushing them on me for years, I refuse to take them and tell him it’s because of all the negative info I’ve read. They, like regular doctors outside the VA, are big pharma pill pushers also. Where is the healthcare? Cannabis, a proven beneficial natural plant with thousands of medicinal and other uses is a crime in the South U.S. , while pills with deadly side effects are pushed by the organized criminals, dare I say doctors. WTF!

        • eppe's elephant dung says:

I got this name cause I used to run with a neighborhood gang. And this is what they called me. Kind a cute eh?

      • Sgt. Dale says:

        Vet:
sir If I have a problem I’m going to do the same thing my twin did. Red wine 4oz a night and fish oil every night for about 5 months. It returned to normal in 5 months and is just a little above average now. Now is only doing it 3 times a week.
        Sgt.

      • Hmmmm.... says:

Amen, Ghost Rider, and your doctor is very smart.
My husband gets the statins and we just pile them on a shelf. VA docs just don’t know how to take a NO.
I researched statins and every year or two, the acceptable level for cholesterol is raised.
        Big Pharma anyone??

My husband can live with high cholesterol, if even he has a level that is high, but he can NOT live with liver failure.

Ghost Rider and others, look into lecithin. We take it daily. No side effects.

  43. Anon says:

Many of us are arch-conservatives and have been preppers for years. We’re frustrated by folks disregarding ancestral skills that are vital importance. That frustration is coming out now, and while I understand it, and even empathize with it, let’s try to work the problem and help people.

Believe it or not, some young people do see how seriously screwed up the USA is right now. They’re living at home with their parents and grandparents, unable to find meaningful work, sometimes even when they have a college or graduate degree.

Some of them are of the typical age to get married, some even older and would be purchasing a starter home had they been born 20 years prior.

As such, some of them are starting to wake up. They’re already eating less expensive food, are unhappy with the current administration, see the loss of civil liberties, and when things like the US Constitution is not allowed to be handed out on college campuses, well that wakes young people up.

Now we have a limited but very scary contagion. We know that it was a problem in West Africa. We know that the main way of reducing the infection was by closing borders. At the same time, we have wide open southern borders, and it’s been theorized that the reason that enterovirus 68 is now in so many states, and caused so many to be infected, and killed a few children, is due to that phenomena.

I realize that the federal government could use this to impose martial law, curtail even more of our precious liberties, and make things even worse. We have to be as wise as serpents and as innocent as doves. Matthew 10:16.

Somehow we must find a balance between preparedness, help to wake up the younger generation, try to pass on ancestral skills, be cautious about contagion, and protect our civil liberties at the same time! It’s a daunting process.

We can fight each other, or we can thoughtfully discuss what’s going on, discern what it all means, share creative practical ideas, pose solutions, and work together to save lives.

The main reason I became a prepper when I was a newly married young man, eons ago now, is that a very hard working, honest prepper talked to me patiently. Had he yelled at me, told me I was stupid, disparaged my background, then I would have tuned him out.

Instead, he was wise and patient and encouraged me when I read about prepping, shared his successes, tried to help me see how far we had fallen from what the Founding Fathers desired.

Can’t we all say similar stories? Didn’t someone mentor you too? Aren’t there wise parents, older friends, professors, pastors, etc who helped to wake you up.

Please don’t run off the new folks who have come here, scared and looking for answers with hateful posts. What will that accomplish but make the younger generation even less likely to adopt prepping and fall even more into the tyranny of our current political process.

    • slingshot says:

The young people today, are dumber than a box of Ball Peen Hammers.

Look, there are very few asking questions so that leaves me to believe it is fine for them. Until the hammer drops.

      Let them drink, Star Bucks.

      • Scavenger says:

I work with mostly young people. They don’t actually even have opinions about anything that’s going on around them, partly because they just don’t know it’s happening. One day I decided to see if I could get a rise out of one female worker, and told her I heard the Kim Kardashian was in a car accident in LA. She turned casually toward me and said…”didn’t happen, I would have gotten an alert”.

Either way now is the time to prepare, not tomorrow but today.

  45. Sgt. Dale says:

Now if only all the turds in DC would Self Quarantine. The world would be a better place.
I guess it is to late to stop all the flights from them in west Africa. Obullshit has already let them in.
The Obullshit administration should be held Criminally responsible.
You don’t see Russia having this problem (yet) or China (yet). How will they handle it?
Any more news on the person in Germany and Spain?
    Sgt.

    • Mr Rodgers says:

      Good Evening Sergeat Dale,

You mention something that I have been thinking about no small bit.

“You don’t see Russia having this problem (yet) or China (yet). How will they handle it?”

I suppose that Russia would be able to control that fairly quickly, as a matter of average poplation density, relatively advanced medical ability and semi-authritarian government. On the other hand, China qualifies on almost of those points as well…except for one; the population density. There, that is likely a hundred times as high (think here of the towns and vilages, cities, etc) as what it is in Russia; Russia is VAST indeed, with a total poplation as I lats saw it of around 175 million people. China…1.1 Billion on a landmass appproximately 1/8 of that of Russia. That might end up a bit diifferent were it to get LOOSE, there.

The one that actually is worse than either of those – IMHO – is India…which – on average! – is backwards to the point of pathetic, as well having almost 1.3 Billion souls thereat…in an even smaller amount of land, thence ultra-HIGH population density. BI and I repeatedly – here discussed the ramifications of THAT happening…Whoa! So very ‘NOT GOOD’, the understaement of the millenium.

Were any significantly infectuous pathogen to get looe there it would spread like wildfire – literally – and thier medical resources wold be uterly inneffective relative to the SIZE of their population. Think we are problematic here with respect to Ebola? Not even close to what they have if that – or anything equivalently bad – gets loose THERE. In truth, I always thought that the tandem of all the relevent factors which exists in India makes it THE place where a totality Human-wiping ELE grade plague would ‘naturally’ begin…but ‘opinions DO vary’……

Enjoy your weekend to come Friend.

      • Frank Thoughts says:

This is true: in terms of capability to respond, Russia would be fine and get on top of it. China would also get on top of it, and have excellent procedures to deal with epidemics. They have shown an ability to act quickly and quarantine when necessary. India, on the other hand, is so lacking in basic hygiene and sanitation, has a government that barely functions, and so it would fail to get on top of an epidemic.

A photographer once went around the world to photograph government officials in different countries. In Russia, it was a man with a computer behind a tidy desk with some cups of tea and bottles of juice; in China, it was a man with the latest lap top computer in a tidy and well-organized office; in India, it was a fat woman in a sari in a filthy, dusty room with newspapers piled to the ceiling, no computer and just laughing and not taking her job seriously. It says it all.

        • Sgt. Dale says:

          Rodgers & Frank
          Thanks for your response.
I agree 100% with the Russia and China argument, as to them being able to handle the problem. I do see China having a little bit more of a problem because of the density of the people and there locations.
The Chi-Coms don’t really care about their people and would quarantine whole cities and shoot anyone that tried to get out. Russia on the other hand would more than likely pack them up and send them to Siberia. Either way problem solved.
India know that is just too scary to think about. If it gets to India all bets are off. There is no way that I can see to contain it there. That whole region is screwed! China, Thailand, Burma, Viet Nam, Pakistan (Pakistan have 80% of the polio cases in the world). They would never be able to handle Ebola.
Those nations in that area has almost 1/2 of the worlds population.
It would take all of the worlds pharmaceutical complies together working 24/7 on a vaccine to just get a small handle on this and then there would more than likely have at least a 35-50% fatality rate at the peak of the outbreak. You are talking about losing around 1.5 Billion people. I just wonder if Heave has enough room for all of them souls?
Please stay safe, and Pray if it your thing, It’s mine.
          A.S.M.S.
          Sgt.

          • Frank Thoughts says:

I think there would be some sort of divine justice if Ebola goes wild in India. The country just spent millions on putting a probe around Mars (not Uranus), but does not provide clean water and sanitation to its people – the majority still crap outside and on the street. Now imagine that crap being Ebola feces. I think it is a test: which countries have integrity and care about their people, and which countries could not care less about their people. Just as happened in Europe, the price of this negligence is death.

Fewer people in these countries would take the pressure off of resources and habitats, which are being destroyed at a record rate.

  56. The Old Coach says:

Eppe seems to be out of jokes, and somebody has to keep WWTI pissed off, so here goes:

On a construction project in the old USSR they had a guard at the exit gate. Every Friday after work an old man would come to the gate with a wheelbarrow full of straw. The guard would probe the straw with his bayonet, take the straw out and put it all back, anything he could think of. Never found a thing.

A few years later the same guard and the old man met in the Gulag, and the guard says “I know you were stealing something! Maybe now you can tell me what it was.” The old man quietly says “wheelbarrows”.

  57. TEST says:

The below is from a city official in the Minneapolis metro area. I have an email in to him, asking if I can release his name and more specific details, but here is what I can release for now.

If you saw the frantic LYING by some Obama apologist on Hannity, trying to blame the Ebola mess on Republican budget cuts – see https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=DM_msD0dw4w#t=4 you get a drift of how bad this is for them. The truth is that budgets were NOT cut, but where growth was slowed, it was a bipartisan effort, signed off on by Obama. And much of the funding goes to things such as why do fruit flies attract one other, why do monkeys throw their poop, etc. The money WAS NOT used for critical Ebola studies anyway! Worse, about airport closures, the reality is that, as Dr. Ben Carson said tonight, inbound flights to Liberia could continue, and you just have a personnel quarantined for 21 days on return to make sure folks are not ill. Simple junior high epidemiology. Liberia is then helped, we are safe. However, Obama – on the golf course for the past three months, while Ebola was starting its Nero-like burn, then doing his latest 3 Stooges imitation the past month (e.g., Nurses Union said they had NO protocols in place for this), you realize this is like Katrina, only caused by stupidity and arrogance (besides, crises must wait for the 18th hole to complete before one can interrupt the Dear Leader). We very well MAY have only minor problems – that is unknown at this point. However, the key issue is, EVEN IF IT TURNS OUT TO BE MORE MINOR, THIS SHOULD NEVER HAVE COME TO THIS POINT UNLESS THERE WAS JUST UTTER INCOMPETENCE BY OBAMA AND HIS KEYSTONE KOPS. Six kids have already died from the Obama’s illegal line jumpers bringing the EV68 virus across, with a dozen paralyzed. Now this.

Here is the email from the city official. This just was emailed the eve of 10/16. If I personally ran any of my projects like this, I would have already been fired a month or two ago. Just staggering. Asterisks are mine, where I replaced information that I am waiting to hear if I can release.
    =——————————————

    Friends,

I don’t want to come off as an alarmist, but I came from a fire steering committee meeting tonight where we discussed Ebola. My first concerns were for our police and firefighters, being first responders, how they were protected and trained.

Here is what I found out:
    • The CDC is not working with first responders. Our city has been trying to get information from the CDC, nothing.
    • The protocols we are using are those of the last flu outbreak. Sorry, this is different. Two confirmed cases in Dallas, and schools are shut down.
    • *********** is a north suburb of Minneapolis and has over 30,000 Liberians, the most outside of west Africa. Highest concentration outside of Liberia.
    • The ************* fire chief estimated Ebola cases to be in the Twin Cities in two weeks.
    • MSP (Minneapolis) Airport continues to be open to visitors from infected countries.
    • Thanks Obama for not closing the airports. Now we know what all the ammo the Dept of Health was buying is for.

  63. Frank Thoughts says:

The problem right now is this: lawyers and businessmen are making the decisions on how to respond, not experts who really know how to contain epidemics. Lawyers look at the rights of the individual and say “you cannot prevent a person from traveling where ever they want or when ever.” The businessman says “the global economy is weak, we need to keep flying so the traveling salesmen can keep doing business with West Africa.”

It is a short-termist view because it ignores the immense damage that will be done to the global economy when this gets out of control. Just as with HIV/AIDS, it will be unnecessarily spread around the world, infecting people who need not be infected and costing a fortune in medical costs to tackle.

Sadly, there is a strain of thought that is nasty and jealous. It does not like the idea that one part of the world should pay the price for their healthcare and social failures. They like to spread around the pain and the cost to everyone: a warped internationalism. We see the same with the idea of destroying developed countries in order to ‘help’ underdeveloped countries. Win-lose rather than win-win.

  64. Old Guy says:

Frank. Its redistribution. You take from those who have more than their fair share and give it to those who have much less. We had to much wealth and jobs ect. So it was resdistributed. they had too much ebola and ge had none so it was brought here. those central American places has more than their fair share of children so we got them and their sickenesses redistributes all over the USA. Its all being done on purpose.

She just laughed, some are waking up and getting it, and some never will. My question is how people cannot feel it in the air, folks we will not last to the 2016 elections; Hell we may not last to the 2014 ones. I’m going to pick up more stuff again today. 68. Mr Rodgers says:

    Good Morning Everyone,

Seismic activity is quite low through the last 24 hours, there is little there to report. Solar is another matter.

For more than a day, we have seen activity along the eastern limb that is intriguing, multiple M-class events, from a region stil ‘in-shade’ beind it from a region – as yet – not visible. Last night that region began rotating into view and it is – apparently – both large and formidable as the current visible magnetic complexity of that region is already visivly very HIGH, possibly extremely so. As such, then I will say here that we MAY yet see a “significant” Solar event in the next several days to come, before the effective end of this Solar cycle which is likely approaching us now as the current Sun spot distribution is so strongly favoring the regions near to the solar equator; a sure, hitorical sign that this cycle is now nearing it’s end.

In other news, NOAA has given it’s long term winter forecast for precipitation; and California is NOT expected to receive much more of that than it has been getting of late…where then will all those people go when it all runs down out there; I wonder.

Markets are up in Europe rather well, especially the German market, the Far East is mixed, with the Nikkei getting pounded again last night and our futures here at home ahow a very bullish day coming. All that is going on, that we see lately suggest that the ‘wild swings’ that we have seen recently WILL intensify as the market fundamentals continue to deteriorate beneath the water-line. Especially as elements of the Fed have once again indicated that they WILL extend thier POMO operations beyond recent guidance, thereby further inmpoverishing – regular – American citzens across the board…unless you are “,0001%” of course

Well, that’s all for the day I think, Folks …have a good one! Adios Friends.

Giving Ebola sufferers blood transfusions from previous survivors of the disease may cure them, according to researchers in Africa.

There’s not much point in surviving Ebola just to die of AIDS, though.

I want to expose the lies of Eppe’s former dog. The truth is that other dog ran away on his own. I have known him for years and he was a very bad dog. He was a leg humping, ass sniffing, child biting rabit animal. Eppe was nothing but good to him and the stupid mutt ran away for no reason. Eppe has never beaten me and is the best owner ever…and I love his jokes ( actually I write the material) but i digress. I hope the dog catcher picks up this extreamly bad dog before he bites anyone else in the ass.

And the African “We’re going to come and live in your country whether you like it or not” virus of the 1970’s.

Those folks went nuts! They decided I was too much of a radical for them? I half way expected to have a cross burned in my yard.

It’s important to have a water filter, and there’s lots of information on purchasing them. However at some point post-collapse, you’re going to need something else.

When wells are created in 3rd world countries, then since it’s a major problem with them being polluted, the well digging team will carefully work with them on their sanitation. You sure don’t want fecal matter seeping into the well, right?

But regardless of that, contamination is always a problem, because no matter what you do, a careless person, or the next village or farm over, can result in water run-off that will pollute your well with agricultural chemicals (fertilizers or pesticides and these can’t be filtered or distilled easily) and/or fecal matter from being applied to the soil, livestock, or human waste.

    So what can you do?

What’s being done now is a biological method that destroys harmful bacteria in combination with a slow sand filter (the traditional method). This takes time to work so that helpful bacteria cultures into the sand layers and so you can’t begin using it right away (takes about a month). Here’s some free open source information about it. It’s the most likely water filter you will build post-collapse and is not expensive and you can probably easily source the hardware and the building materials.
    http://www.cawst.org/en/resources/biosand-filter

This kind of filter removes 97% of the harmful pathogens. It’s a proven way to improve hygiene. The biggest improvement to public health in the 20th Century was the ability to have a safe water supply.

If things get bad due to some serious problem, then no doubt you’d have to consider where to build a well for your new tribe, how to manage waste disposal (composting, repurposing, and perhaps incineration), burials and sacred space, and filtering the water.

If not, then there are many waterbourne pathogens viruses, bacteria, and larger parasites. As a tribal leader or as an important member of the infrastructure team, you’d need to make clean water a priority.

That also means maintaining it, and security of it as that could harm the tribe.

Hopefully you’d never have to use this information, but if you understood the principles, then this would greatly help you protect your family and grow your tribe over time.

    • Anon says:

To improve the taste of your biosand filtered water, the traditional way is by making your own charcoal from hardwoods (or coconut husks as they are ideal but very limited in America), and then passing the filtered water over it.

Commerical charcoal brickets are made by an entirely different process and must not be used for this purpose.

Charcoal is basically made by controlled combustion in which the hardwood is starved of oxygen and so forms that charred wood. Some rocket stoves naturally make biochar so you could use that method of making your charcoal.

Charcoal will be an important barter item post-collapse. Not only is it used as a way to purify water, but as an agent to remove toxic substances from the body, but also for producing metals.

If a fella understood how to make biosand filters and charcoal, then they’d have a very good marketable skill that every small tribe will need, right?

I’ll leave you to search for that. Several preppers have described the process. Doing it larger scale as an annual chore would probably be what your tribe would do in a post-collapse situation. That’s usually done by buring the smoldering wood, and taking turns watching it so it doesn’t flare up, but stays at a controlled smoldering burn to produce it. The charcoal makers often had a special one legged bench to sit upon so that if they fell asleep, they’d fall over and awaken (a practical thing that might be made for anyone on watch duty).

  76. Old Guy says:

Now this is no joke. There is only one way to rid the planet of EBOLA. Bomb the places in Africa where its originating at. Turn every living thing there into a crispy critter. As Barney Fife would say nip it in the bud. Im pretty sure that would do the job. Gengis Kahn when he went through a place his army left a scorched earth behind them. Maybe he was purifying the land? For many years the hill folks in the Ozarks burnt off the entire countryside every spring. They knew the benefits out weighed the harm. It killed the ticks & chiggers cut down on diseases and reduced the litter so when a wild fire did happen it wouldn’t be out of control. Then there where laws passed and the forestry quickly put out every fire. Guess what that allowed a insect called a Borer to infest the forest. The oak trees and some other species are dying across the Ozarks by the thousands. Now the forestry is doing controlled burns.

  79. The Prophet says:

The government can’t handle a few Ebola cases. What are they going to do when it becomes 500 or 5000? It’s already getting out of control. The hospitals are NOT equipped to handle this. The schools will shut down. All large gatherings will be discontinued. No sporting events in person. The economy will collapse. Finally, a reason to get rid of the social engineers. Free at last! Thank God, free at last!

    1. Obama signing the Exec Order allowing him to task the National Guard to Africa is a real wake up call.
They would be hard wired into any martial law plans, they have strong local ties, and now they will be in Africa.

    2. The fact Obama knows his refusal to impose a common sense air Quarantine on red hot ebola zones is devastating Dems in the election, yet he doesn’t care, suggests the election may not matter, or may not happen.

    3. Other countries with an ebola quarantine, will, logically now have to quarantine USA air flights as America become ebola hot because Obama refused to quarantine Africa.

    4. Get a map, plan how you would quarantine your town. Look for roads you would shut off and for escape routes. If ebola goes red, being confined to a FEMA camp will be a death sentence.
