One California lawmaker is seeking to have the state ban all vehicles powered by fossil fuels by the year 2040.  Should the bill succeed in becoming a law, the state of California would not allow residents to register any vehicle that emits carbon dioxide.

According to Bloomberg, California Assemblymember Phil Ting, a Democrat who is chairman of the chamber’s budget committee, said he plans to introduce a bill that, starting in 2040, would allow the state’s motor vehicles department to register only “clean” vehicles that emit no carbon dioxide, such as battery-electric or hydrogen fuel-cell cars.

“Until you set a deadline, nothing gets done,” Ting, who represents much of San Francisco, said in a phone interview Tuesday. “It’s responsible for us to set a deadline 23 years in advance.” This is not the first time California has considered a ban on the internal combustion engine vehicle either. The topic has been discussed at the California Air Resources Board (CARB), the state’s overly powerful air quality regulator, after Governor Jerry Brown showed interest in similar moves by other countries, including communist China.

“I’ve gotten messages from the governor asking, ‘Why haven’t we done something already?’” CARB Chairman Mary Nichols said in September, referring to communist China’s planned phase-out of fossil-fuel vehicle sales. “The governor has certainly indicated an interest in why China can do this and not California.” Perhaps because Chian is a communist country run by an all-powerful government.  By all means, the lawmakers now seek to make California more like China.

Using buzzwords like “climate change” the tyrants in the Golden State will be able to enact any law they see fit in an attempt to control those who live in the state.

Ting said he’ll introduce the bill when lawmakers return to Sacramento next month for the upcoming legislative session. If adopted, it would eliminate a huge chunk of carbon emissions from the transportation sector (now the top source of the” greenhouse gas” in the U.S.) as part of the state’s quest to slash emissions by 80 percent from 1990 levels by 2050.

For every action there is an opposite reaction. I predict a BOOM in car registrations in Arizona, Nevada, and Oregon in 2041 !!! 🙂

  2. buttcrackofdoom says:

off topic, but i found a great article from scouting about “surviving the cold 2″(That’s what i’m calling it). i know a LOT About staying warm, but i learned a couple things here.

  3. Hippy Lover says:

I guess California should build some coal plants, since that’s where the electricity will come from to power their cars.

Zero emissions? NO! Zero LOCAL emissions. Plenty of emissions at the generation source.

Wind and Solar will not provide the demand required for an electric California.

  4. buttcrackofdoom says:

wonder where they will find all that lectricity? hunh?

  5. Stuart says:

Electric cars run on coal and the batteries are incredibly toxic to produce. Californian stupidity knows no bounds.

    • rellik says:

“Californian stupidity knows no bounds.” Is more correctly stated as Democrats stupidity knows no bounds.

      • Genius says:

relik, I looked up those batteries your looking for. Damn man, 2700 bux for a 12 volt 300ah battery? Thats the price of a 1680ah bank using lead batteries.

        • rellik says:

          Genius,
          LiFePo4 batteries have
10,000+ cycle life at 100% depth of discharge.
          10 year warranty period.
The price per Watt is far cheaper than FLA’s
          all things considered.
Yes that is some sticker shock.
but I can do more with two 3.4 kW PiFePo4
than I can with sixteen L16 FLA batteries
because of L16 depth of discharge limitations
          and effect on cycle life.
          If you have different ideas
          I’d like to hear it.

          • Genius says:

            This is what I read…

A Bioenno Power battery allows for extraction of >80-90% of the rated capacity, whereas an SLA battery only allows for 50% of the rated capacity
A Bioenno Power product has a service life of 2000+ charge cycles at 5-10+ years with a shelf life that far exceeds the service life of many other batteries

So that site says 2k cycles. About the same as a good L-16. Just wondered about that. It still seems way more pricey per watt than fla batteries My FLA batteries will last 10 years easy at 50% DOD. If you were to go to an electric forklift battery you could expect 20 years.

            • rellik says:

              Genius,
              Thanks!
              I was looking at simpliphipower.com
24 VDC 3.4 kW LFP batteries.
The Bioenno is a lot cheaper, I’ll
              keep looking into it.
I seriously considered Forklift batteries, but
the logistics of that is difficult in my
              rural location.
I know you are a solar guy, but here we have a
lot of people that live off grid and
they all curse their FLA batteries.
because the DOD is a killer.
What brand is your FLA’s to get
10 years service at a daily 50% DOD?
              Thanks!

              • Genius says:

                US Battery XC-HC L-16. I don’t go to 50% daily, usually 30-40% I also use a desulphator, The BLS 24/12 model.

                • Genius says:

If they curse their fla’s I would bet you they are TROJAN brand, they are the WORST!

                • Genius says:

One thing about fls batteries is when you add water (must be distilled) be sure to shake them up good. When they sit for a long time unmoved the electrolyte seperates, called stratification. You can extend the life of them also by using a desulphator and only equalizing them every 6 months or more. Equalizing burns some lead off the plates everytime you do it, a desulphator helps dissolve the lead sulphate crystals back into the solution. US Battery is far superior and cheaper than most brands too. EVERY trojan bank I have seen has failed prematurely 100%.

                • rellik says:

                  Genius,
                  Thanks!
Rolls and US battery were on my short list till I came across
                  simpliphipower.com 24 VDC 3.4 kW LFP batteries.
Simpliphipower is carried locally as is Outback and Trojan.
Trojans used to be among the best, but you are right they should be
                  avoided at all costs.
To get to your DOD, I’ll need 12 L16 FLA batteries, I always leave a pretty good error budget, I used to design Airplane stuff.
Shipping is the killer, Nobody here carries the
                  good FLA brands.
Pretty crappy when my choices for batteries depends on shipping costs, and banana republic business rules. Price of living in paradise I guess.
Thanks for your inputs, no doubt fellow SHTF guys enjoy the info.
It’s more interesting than End of days porn.

                • Genius says:

relik, your welcome anytime. One thing you might try is talk to your local battery dealer and see if they can get them for you. Heck maybe you can talk them into dumping trojan (some places here have because they are so shitty) and selling US Battery. The batteries I mentioned here have a 6 week waiting period because they have become so popular. GOOD LUCK!

  6. Jim in Va. says:

Perhaps California will have separated from the union by then. then California can do whatever they want. Feel that……is that the big earthquake we’ve been expecting?

  7. Heartless says:

Let’s just ban Democrats and have them move to China. They think it so wonderful there, it’d sure be cheaper and a better solution to just give them all boat fare and get them the heck out of our country.

  8. Mo in Alabama says:

DON’T WAIT! Do it now and lead the rest of us by example.
    Bwahaha!

  9. TEST says:

Thats ok… cuz I plan to ban all leftist fascists by 2020, so they won’t be around.

    Next question!

  10. Beaumont says:

“Until you set a deadline, nothing gets done,” said Münchhausen, when pulling himself and his horse out of the mud, by his bootstraps.

According to one theory of management, time dilates and contracts, to fit a deadline (affecting the laws of relativity.)

I would sincerely like for the commissars to show us an example of a closed loop system, in which renewables are used to make more of themselves, in a self-regenerating way.

But, in practice, the new energy will be derivative of menial, human labor and personal sacrifices of creature comforts.

Ultimately, nothing new will be created, ex nihilo, except in your religious faith.

  11. madtxn says:

the train to nowhere will transport everyone. nothing to worry about.

  12. Michigan Wolverine says:

maybe we will get lucky and they will ban Democrats before 2040

    • TheGuy says:

What they need to ban is voting rights for anyone that has not held full time employment for less than 4 years.

You know where these dillweeds get their voting base from. Colleges.

And those nimrods are voting not on the basis of “preserve what I have”, they’re voting on the basis of “give me shit I never earned”.

  13. TheGuy says:

I wish this place would secede and get it over with.

You know what I tried figuring out how many solar panels it would take to charge a Chevy Bolt to 100% capacity nightly. Like 120 mile commute per day which around here is quite common.

    The answer?

Between 20 and 25 full size.

    PFFFFFFFF!

RIGHT SURE MAN! Like anyone has that much roof “just kicking around”.

    Idiot.

These things do not have the energy density dipshit.

Try a goddamned thermodynamics textbook. All you are accomplishing is putting a middleman (the battery) in between the coal fired generating plant and the car wheels.

Middlemen always take a “cut”. This time it’s in energy.

    Douche.

  14. Braveheart1776 says:

This country won’t make it to 2040, let alone Cali. As long as fossil fuels are available, I’ll stick with the good ol’ internal combustion engine, thank you.

  15. Kay123 says:

West Californication will probably split off from United States by way of a
gigantic earthquake by 2050. Don’t build any bridges!!!

Ting sounds like a Chinaman who wants his roads cleared for his own
“China-Man-Wagon. And since cars are forbidden in China cities, maybe
    he wants his own country.
They are buying property, shipping ports, banks, businesses, land,
etc., etc., like crazy and have been for the last 50 years.
(Soon they will be the majority.)

  16. Sgt. Dale says:

    California Two words. BITE ME!!!!!
    Sgt.

  17. Braveheart1776 says:

Ting needs to return to his homeland. America doesn’t want to be like china.

  18. Hunter says:

soon the liberals will get their asses body slammed and their shit will be over.

  19. The theory of global warming is easy to sell in a state that is plagued by droughts and massive fires. They haven’t enough water to support the needs of the population, industry and agriculture. Add this to a bunch of crazy celebrities and potheads and you have California culture. There are good, sane people in California and we have to keep this in mind. Also, keep in mind that these good, sane people probably ended up in California by getting lost trying to get somewhere else (just kidding, kind of).

  20. Press 9 for English says:

What! Now CA wants to be China. That’s gonna piss Mexico off.

  21. Curious says:

I find it interesting that they are banning any vehicle that emits carbon dioxide. As I pump my now necessary up the hills of San Francisco, what am I exhaling?
