California’s Energy Crisis: Blackouts and $5 Gasoline

Unprecedented blackouts and continually rising gasoline prices are highlighting California’s energy crisis. While the price of gasoline soars, millions of Californians have just suffered a blackout induced by the state’s largest utility, PG&E, just so it isn’t blamed for starting more fires.

PG&E is already bankrupt and being sued by people in the state of California for starting wildfires, such as the Camp Fire. Now, to prevent more lawsuits and further financial devastation, the company has shut off power to millions of Californians all while the cost of a gallon of gasoline reaches crisis levels.  California gas prices reached the highest level in the state since 2015, some Los Angeles area gas stations are charging more than $5 a gallon, according to Yahoo.

The gas price spike started last month after Saudi Arabia oil production facilities were attacked, and accelerated after three Los Angeles-area refineries slowed or halted production due to maintenance issues and no imported gasoline was available to make up for the shortfall, according to Jeffrey Spring, the Automobile Club of Southern California’s corporate communications manager.-Yahoo

There is some speculation that gasoline will be more than $6 per gallon in California soon, hitting consumers hard right in their wallets.

America’s most “environmentally-conscious” state also got a harsh lesson in electrical engineering. Many of the tens of thousands of people hit by this week’s blackout learned the hard way that solar installations don’t keep the lights on during a power outage. That is “because most panels are designed to supply power to the grid, not directly to houses. During the heat of the day, solar systems generate more juice than a home can handle. However, they don’t produce power at all at night. So systems are tied into the grid, and the vast majority aren’t working this week as PG&E cut power to much of Northern California to prevent wildfires,” reported Bloomberg.

Those Californians who still have “uncool” internal combustion engines are in luck; they just may have to pay nearly $6 per gallon soon to fill up.

When idiots (Demonrats) manage your state, these are the types of repercussions you can expect. The “sane” states should beware, the same idiots want to take over your state also.

Thank God our family moved from that hellhole (CA) when we retired.

  3. John Connor says:

California IS a Communist country! They recently expanded their Red Flag law to take away a citizen’s guns for FIVE F*CKING YEARS!

civil war is on her way, the fuse is lit

Wow, things just keep getting better and better in cali [SARCASM]. Gas is $2.40 per gallon in my part of north GA today. I still wouldn’t give up my old Dodge 4WD for anything in the world.

  5. rellik says:

Hard to believe that gas prices in CA exceed those in the most remote islands of Hawaii!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The big difference between Venezuela and CA is there are a lot of people in CA that own guns, understand that the large cities don’t produce anything, and need the rural areas to provide food, water, and power to the city “states” that run that state.
Glad I escaped CA in 1979.

  6. Mad Dog says:

Don’t think of it as an energy crisis. Think of it as being beta testers for the “Green New Deal.”

They say my internal combustion engine is ‘uncool’? F#$% them. I’ll take internal combustion any day over the hybrid junk that’s being made these days. I can’t even stand cars for that matter.

The cost of burying the power lines is just about the same as the cost of supporting California’s illegal immigrants for just ONE YEAR. In other words, Californians could have buried the lines for no additional cost simply by keeping the illegals out and not paying ridiculous benefits for these criminals. Of course the government never told the citizens this little fact. The Marxist government of that state and the loony leftists that elected and support them are 100% responsible for the wildfires and loss of life that could have been avoided by burying the lines.

I recently returned from a trip to California, and while there, rode a tour bus with a guide and one of the things that he said ( as a joke ) is that the california voters want a new state tree, ” the eucalyptus tree “. He then said the voters can now say ” U clip us again” tree. He wasn’t laughing very hard when he said that.

  12. The goal has always been to get gas close to $10 per gallon. These are just convenient excuses to help smooth the road.

California doesn’t get its gas from the Middle East. So that should never be a factor.

The level of rage on the freeway is insane. Everyone is pissed all the time. I have seen arguments and fights on the road. This is in a normal time with no earthquake or tsunami or riots. I’m glad I have. BOL In Bonner’s Ferry and enough gas to get there in my 4×4. I’m making my money and leaving this [email protected] state that gone down since the 80s.

California’s are a cancer and need to lay in their own scwaller. We don’t need them metasticizing across America!

  15. Anonymous says:

After years of democrat boondoggles and wasted money trying to save the planet and the trees, we find that all they did was give us the prime conditions for wildfires and the destruction of private property.. during that time it took 2-3 studies and 15 regulations who knows how many inspectors who never had a clue to arrive at the fact that the trees have to be cut back from the power lines or they can spark fires oh yeah and several fires started by said powerlines by said trees.
