    Mainstream financial analysts want us to believe that gold’s unprecedented rise throughout the last decade is almost over – that it is just another bubble soon to pop. Central banks, state-sponsored economists and many well respected high dollar investors have all tried to convince us that there is no more upside for precious metals, often arguing that the 5,000 year-old relics are but worthless metals – not money.

    The interesting thing is they’ve been saying that repeatedly, since before the financial crisis was ever recognized. Yet, gold has continued to rise unabated.

    In the following Future Money Trends interview, well respected investment analyst Jay Taylor of MiningStocks.com discusses this powerful trend in gold, the government manipulation of the financial and economic system, the importance of diversifying your wealth, why precious metals are a good investment, some ideas for investors, and the signs you’ll see when gold does finally become a “bubble.”

    A lot of the establishment would have us believe gold is already in a bubble.

    But if you look at the supply of gold above ground relative to the amount of money that’s been created, it’s money and it’s the bond market that’s in a bubble.

    Yes, I suppose that one day that could happen.

    I remember 1980, when gold went from $35 a few years earlier to $850.

    I remember that time there was panic buying of gold by people in the streets of New York City. They were lined up around the block… to buy gold and Krugerrands at that time.

    I don’t see anything like that now.

    If I walk down the streets of New York and ask people, “do you think you should have five or ten  percent of your portfolio in gold,” most people would say, “No, no way. That’s ridiculous. It doesn’t pay you any interest. Why would you own the stupid stuff?”

    So, I think we’re a long way away from that bubble.

    I think people in the rest of the world and don’t trust their politicians to the extent that Americans do, are buying gold.

    Certainly the Chinese are…

    I suppose that we could see a bubble at some time.

    I suppose that, as we saw in 1980, there will be huge amounts of people that finally lose confidence and throw in the towel on the policy makers.

    And, then there will be a rush to gold like we’ve  never seen before.

    And when people start to insist on delivery of their gold… for the huge amounts of paper that’s out there in the futures markets… And if those people on the buy side want to take delivery… the price is going to go to the moon. I really believe that.

    As an asset of last resort, precious metals like gold and silver have always been worth something. With the fiscal and monetary policies currently under implementation around the world, along with literally trillions of dollars in unserviceable debt, it wouldn’t take much to set off a panic buying spree in gold.

    In the last 30 days, since the Newtown school shootings, panic buying has left gun stores across the country with nothing on their shelves and back-orders of six months or more. Tens of thousands of Americans have been lining up outside of firearms shops and gun shows, grabbing up anything they can get their hands on.

    That’s what it looks like when the entire consciousness of a nation suddenly shifts.

    That’s what it looks like when hundreds of millions of dollars of capital are rapidly reallocated.

    One day in the not too distant future, the people of this country and around the world are going to come to the realization that our governments, central banks and state-sponsored financial institutions have been playing a shell game – that it’s all been one grand manipulation.

    Confidence in our government’s ability to manage this crisis will be lost.

    When that happens, as Jay Taylor notes, “there will be a rush to gold like we’ve  never seen before.” Precious metals dealers and coin shops all over the globe will sell out of inventory.

    As we’ve seen with popular assault rifles, ammunition and accessories recently, this shift of capital will lead to almost immediate price increases, and subsequently more public interest and panic buying.

    There will be a bubble in gold – perhaps one of the biggest asset bubbles we’ve ever seen.

    But we’re not there yet.

    When you see lines of anxious shoppers waiting around the block to get in to your local bullion exchange and when stocks in exploration and mining companies jump hundreds of percentage points in just a few weeks time, then you’ll know we’ve reached bubble levels.

    If you haven’t acquired some gold and silver assets by then, it’ll be too late.

      Gold is way out of my reach but silver is within my price range, a small amount each month builds up over time.

      • We do what we can Burt — physical assets are the way to go. Whether it’s silver, fractional gold, food buckets, or other supplies (for some reason I have been on a recent kick to buy nails and screws at the hardware store every time i go in — and when money allots, I try to get a quality handtool like a hammer, axe, shovel, etc. – all American Made whenever possible!)

        There are so many different ways to ‘diversify’ one’s assets.

        For many of us, it’s get what you can each week.

        Others, perhaps with retirement accounts, have to look at other ways to protect their assets… Physical is great, of course, but when we’re talking about people with funds in 401K or IRA accounts, they’ve got a whole different set of strategies that must be employed.

          I get to screws in two weeks, got a few hundred but certainly need more. WD40 and duct tape this week, para cord and a couple more thermos flasks next week. I split up my purchases so I am not left with 500 of one item and nothing of another. It wouldn’t suit everyone doing it that way butit works for me.

          I’m not sure if its of use but for 3 weeks now a local manufacturing jewellers has been the cheapest place to buy silver. No it’s not in nice rounds but its hall marked and very cheap, a troy ounce of the little clasps that do up necklaces is 2/3 of the price of a troy ounce round. From a bullion merchant. Might be worth a look at such places in the States.

            I do wonder though – if there is a bubble in gold prices, then it would make more sense to stick with silver and wait for the bubble to pop on gold, no?

              I think that when people talk about investing in gold it also infers silver – whichever you can afford. They are both going through the roof when the hyperinflationary period hits. An ounce of gold takes a pretty big investment at $1600+, an ounce of silver is much easier for us little people at $30+. Precious Metals are a way to preserve your “wealth” so that after the SHTF you will have something to restart your life with, buy some land/stock, pay workers etc. There is some speculation from the gold bugs that the prices of PMs in the future will be around $5000 for gold and $1000 for silver. It will never be worth nothing (like your IRA is going to be after the government confiscates it). It is easy to start buying at a coin shop, just get yourself a few pre-1962 dimes etc, small investment and you can build on it.

              OQ… I have been wrestling with that very question. I like gold and it likely is under-priced but silver seems even more under-priced. My current strategy is to buy silver as I can and hold it until the gold / silver ratio drops from its current 55:1 down to 30:1 or maybe even less. Whether it will do this or not I cannot say but if it does I will then trade some silver for gold and try to make it do double duty that way. It would be good to own both but gold is just too expensive to be buying much of it these days and the premium per oz. on fractional gold is pretty discouraging as well.

                You all should start doing a little research/homework on freegold… FOFOA.Blogspot.com is a terrific place to start. Why don’t central banks save in silver? Why are all central banks, countries, and citizens in India, China, and other Asian countries currently buying gold… not silver. Gold will outperform silver by leaps and bounds… do not put all your money in silver, you will be the one left holding the bag… Gold is ONLY for savings that isn’t needed in everyday life and AFTER you already have enough food and gear to weather most storms. Currency Wars by James Rickards is another great book. Gold is nowhere near a bubble and when it has been revalued for all the money that has increased in the system, it will be many times its current value. And if the paper price of gold plumments… HOLD ON TO YOUR GOLD!!! Because the revaluation is underway! I cannot recommend this enough… many will sell and miss out… Good luck to all!

                  If the world you all are imagining ever comes to be (run away inflation and the end of “fiat currency”, your gold will be worthless too. The OT thing that will be worth anything are good leg, guns and ammunition. I’m not proposing you stock up on guns and ammo, I’m just pointing out the redicousness of all these arguments…

          I’m with you there Mac…..I’ve been buying coated nails, construction adhesive and xtra lumber. I’ve also purchased numerous quality American hammers, axes, mattocks, planes, sledges and the like for when times require only hand tools…..I’m also constructing a specialty hand-tool work bench so I can fall back on carpentry/furniture building when that is necessary. I try to buy nickels when I can, silver when I can and continue to work my long-term food storage as funds allow……just glad to have planned ahead for my lead storage and delivery.

          Hi Mac. I remember one “garage sale” last summer in a town devastated by people who have been moving out over decades. Like a ghost town but I go there with my kids and we stay at some log cabins on a lake. We discovered a yard sale, something like “Help Riley Go to Hollywood”.

          Apparently a local girl had won some type of contest and qualified to go perform in front of some Disney schmuck. The family had a garage full of carpentry tools that their deceased grandfather had left them. Old levels, T-squares, wrenches, saws, everything. Selling these great old tools for like $0.50 or $2.00 each.

          I was pretty sad to imagine what the dead guy must be thinking if he saw that, but I bought up a lot of for under $20. What a waste of tools, to participate in the sheeple disney culture.

            Not to worry, Ranch. I am sure that Gramps is looking down and smiling because the tools that meant so much to him have found their way into strong hands that make good use of them again.

            Finding those tools sounds to me as if it was meant to be. The family wasn’t using them and they were probably slowly rusting away to complete uselessness. Far better for them to be used for their intended purpose, being cared for, and getting useful work done.

            I have a hammer that was owned and used by my grand father. It is the only thing of his that I have and that makes it special to me even if it is just an everyday hammer. My hand seems to find it every time I need a hammer, even though there are 2-3 others on the rack near it.

          This is off-topic but needs to be addressed ……the IRS has yet again changed the date of filing…..I am one who claims zero during the year so I can get a few bucks back and not have to pay…..this year you were able to file on Jan 4th and then the irs stated that they would begin accepting returns on Jan 14 and then they stated that it would be Jan 22 and now it is Jan 30……the couple hundred bucks I get back is not the point I wish to make here….but the very horrible fact is that this is just how bad this economy is….and soon to fail completely. Yet those secure in the government have not addressed this….rather, senate leaders are encouraging obama to skirt the Constitution completely and raise the debt ceiling by his order….IF, in fact, our gov’t cannot honor the miniscule tax refunds of it’s citizens then total financial collapse is rapidly approaching…..I see nothing from either side to convince me that any feasible solution is forthcoming, therefore I must conclude that all are in colusion for the oncoming global collapse which, most likely, will occur.

          I too have begun acquiring good quality hand tools of ALL kinds. US made tools are NOT the best. The best come from Europe, but are mostly not available anymore. Try to avoid buying anything made in Asia. Tools last forever if taken care of. They are a good barter item as everyone will need them eventually. Not as compact as gold or silver, but within reach of everyone with a few dollars left at the end of the month. Nails and screws are very good, small trade items. I live in the Philippines so I am stocking up on stainless steel nails and brass screws. I pick up a pack or two every time I go into a hardware store here.

          Don’t buy cheap. I was a carpenter for years and learned the ‘cheap tool’ lesson the hard way. A good tool lasts a lifetime, a cheap tool fails in the middle of the project you need it for. If you spend hours/days/weeks/months/years making something you need and you want it to last for decades or more, use brass screws. Yes, they cost more, but what is your time worth? Do you want it to fail in the middle of your need of it?

          Gold/silver are nice, but necessary items are also. A pound of nails for a chicken? Maybe. ^_^

          Be assured, while I’ve long owned some precious metal coins, I know of no one else personally—absolutely nobody!—who does, despite my pleas to them to buy. Family, friends and acquaintances, they all simply refuse to get involved.

          And forget about preaching the mining stocks to them, they’re even more out of favor. Somebody’s going to be on the right side of history and somebody’s going to be chasing it. I’ll take my chances with the precious metal eagles and buffaloes.

          I am very, very suspicious of the whole idea of moving IRA or 401K dollars into gold or silver that has to be stored somewhere else and then the dealer who talked you into that lunacy promises to send you a picture of what he claims is your gold, and he promises you he will keep an eye on for you.

          Oh, and he also promises to send you a piece of paper that will be your ‘certificate’ of ownership.

          Can there be any bigger and more easier to recognize scam than that?

          Mac, just posted on ZeroHedge: Bundesbank is going to start repatriating it’s gold reserves back to Germany. All of what they have stored in Paris, and about half of what they have stored in the NY federal Reserve.

        Don’t sweat it Burt…silver will be just as good. Folks must begin to think about living local…wshtf most living will be within 30 miles of your home. Most of us have handle the local thing already. People that do not barter currently will figure it out quickly or will stand little chance of getting what they need.

        A small amount does add up…there will be a return to real value in money and an appreciation for that value.

        Silver has been treated like crap…yet the most enslaving and socalled important items REQUIRE IT.

        I am in my 50′s, my prediction is that gold and silver will be equal value in my lifetime. Put a gold 1 oz coin next to a 1 oz silver coin…only difference to me is what we have been told about each and the color.

        It takes the same labor, energy, tech, etc to get it out of the earth and into coin form…silver maybe more because as I said it is treated like crap.

        Keep stacking best that we can.

            If equality was the goal for the whole planet, why do some just get handed fiat to buy real things and why do the rest of us have to work for it, pay for others first and then ourselves last.

            as one who works for it, who has spent alot of time in the outdoors alone in challenging places and who has come in contact/dealt with alot of people…I’ll take what God and the earth deals to me every damn time.

            You will be amazed at how many places you will have to spend your silver in the future…and how much you will be able to buy.

          Just Google Eric Sprott and silver. You will see that the physical supply of silver in the world is dwindling….it gets used up in manufacturing never to be recovered. The paper silver market on the Comex trades 100x daily the total actual physical silver available for delivery. As soon as all the futures traders start demanding delivery of the metal at the expiration of their contracts, and Comex cannot deliver…there will be a massive de-coupling of the paper price and the price to buy physical metal. Whatever you do…do not invest in funds like SLV, and expect to make a killing…..they are a fraud. If you don’t have it in your hand…you don’t own it IMHO.

        @ Burt the Brit. You know one way of picking up silver at below the market rate is scrap silver and silver dinnerware at garage sales. People often don’t know the market price and just want to clean out their attics, and will sell some silver forks, spoons, knives, etc. for much lower than what it is worth. Some people will not even realize that it is silver and just sell it. Jewerly is also something that sometimes pops up. Estate sales are really good for this, because many times the family just wants to unload everything at any price.

        • The people who got burnt on gold in the 80s were the ones who bought at panic prices and had took out a second mortgage (which used to be an ODD thing) to buy. They now scoff at the idea of owning gold and have tught their kids the same attitude. These are the same types buying guns during the panic, and will be the panicked ones trying to buy food and other essentials.

          We are living in Charlton Heston’s upside down world, only in our case, it is considered madness to want to look out for your most basic needs for more than a few days.

          Amazing how the “panic buyer” crowd consider themselves always the smatrest person in the room, even after they are proven wrong time and again.

            Good point bob. it makes you wonder if you should be buying .223 ammo now or wait till it drops again. who knows. I think the market will catch backup and prices will drop a bit and pmags will be available again after a few months. Maybe not.

            Exactly right, Bob. It is the panic buyers who are the real boneheads in life. Hurricane Sandy was only the latest example of this. The Weather Service warned the entire East coast that this storm was coming, that it would be a terribly dangerous storm, and that everyone who could should evac to higher ground further inland. But did most people listen to this sensible warning? Noooo, of course not. They fiddled and piddled, not doing much at all, until the VERY last minute. Then, they got off the couch, raced to the local stores, and cleaned off all the shelves. We see this same stupid behavior time and time again when it is MUCH simpler and WAY smarter to simply have what we need on hand, so that when problems come up we are ready for whatever they dish out. We can spend our time FAR more productively, such as by boarding up our windows, checking our supplies, testing battery powered equipment, checking out our generator, calling family members to see if they are OK, ready for the storm, or need to be brought to our place and not left on their own.

            Of course, the Gov isn’t helping a lot. FEMA says that we all should have 2 weeks of food and water supplies, candles, flash lights, batteries, extra blankets, medical supplies, some way to heat food and boil water, and a decent battery powered radio for such emergencies. Then, DHS comes along and labels everyone who has this gear as a “potential” terrorist. WTF? The right and left hands of the Gov really ought to be introduced to each other at some point and preferably BEFORE the next big storm, earthquake, tsunami, or whatever comes along.

        Burt, if you don’t have much to invest why not invest in Nickles. This seems like a 2 edged sword. First, we now have a run on ammo, which takes brass, which I believe is made of 70% copper and 30% zinc, don’t hold me to these figures, but if I’m wrong, someone will correct me. And we have the public buying ammo by the millions of rounds and the government buying it by the millions of rounds so somewhere along the line with the use of all this brass, copper prices have to soar. Now I believe Nickles are 70% copper and 30% nickle. So the beauty of buying Nickles is they only cost a Nickle and will always be worth at least a Nickle. So if you’ve got ANY money in a savings account it’s only drawing 1/10 of 1% so why let the bank hold any of your money at that rate. If you had a 100,000 in the bank you would only make a little over $100 interest in a year. Is that crazy or what. Sure someone could steal them, so hide them well, but if your house burns I doubt it would hurt them very much. Silver probably is a better investment, but not if it’s in a bubble. Just looking at this from a safe financial investment. Now I do have question for the readers. If hyper inflation should hit America, does anyone know anything about investing in foriegn currency. Such as the Swiss Franc, which has always been a stable currency. Could be one way to protect one worthless piece of paper with another, just a thought. Trekker Out. Semper Paratus!

        I made a comment here about six months ago that guns and ammo might be worth their weight in gold in the future and buying them would be wise. Especially any that can be bought without leaving a paper/digital, trail/link back to you.

        I still believe that will hold true until some sort of new bs law is implemented; you know the ones like the senator(dem.) from CT that wants background checks for everyone purchasing ammo of any kind.

        Stock up now on any components for re-loading, whether you are into reloading or not, because someone nearby will have a reloader and you can replace spent ammo in a barter/etc. deal. We have been trying to get as much as we can afford, especially powder, since it comes with a haz-mat fee when ordering by mail and when the local gun stores are out, it is so damn expensive with the shipping/etc. fees.

        Will gold/silver bubble out this year? Who really knows. I’d rather have guns and ammo stockpiled/hidden for a SHTF plan than a handful of metal that may or may not buy me food/security. If martial law were invoked and TPTB took dominion over all pm’s and guns/ammo, which would you be able to use/sell/barter with? I’m just sayin’. That scenario may still be down the road a few years, BUT; what if? What if the world is thrown into the chaos of a Middle Eastern war that kills billions? How long would it take TPTB to capitalize on the events and pass more laws to control more of our lives like they have done over the past 12 years? It could happen while the sheeple are sleeping.

        Most of the sheeple are asleep with the enemy already.

        I am sympathetic to the sentiment, Harley, but US dollars do have value… for now. I know this because people will still give me the things that I want and need in exchange for these dollars. Yes, I use them to buy silver too, so they MUST have value or no one would be willing to trade me silver for these notes. That said, we both know that a time is coming when this may not be the case.

        My son and I went to a gun-show a few months ago. We walked around, looked at a lot of nice stuff on the over 1,000 tables that were set up and doing business. At one of them, a fellow had a whole bunch of Zimbabwe bank notes for sale… the real nice ones that say $100,000,000,000,000 on them. Hell, with ten of those, a fellow could be a quadrillionaire! Of course, he still could not buy anything with all that paper. He wanted $8 apiece for these notes, so we declined. That made me wonder what he would have done, had I pulled out an ASE, dropped it onto his table, and asked “How many of these notes can I get for this?”. I can just imagine his eyes bugging out as he mumbled “all of them”. lol

        I came across a site yesterday, and didn’t bookmark it and do not recall the name, but it was an online firearms/ammo dealer. They had a big notice at the home page saying that they had suspended sales of everything, “whether the product is in stock or not.” Cheaper Than Dirt is still supplying, but is out of stock for most of its inventory. AR mags, for instance, only had 4 products in stock out of 226 listed.

        Re: PM’s, it is good to always remember that the historic ratio in valuation between gold and silver is 1:16. In 1980, that was the ratio, after declining from 1:40 in 1975. Then it took off after ’80 and the Hunt Bros. deal, and shot up to 75-80 just before the crash in late ’08.       Personally, I would own silver, palladium, or platinum before gold. All 3 have much much more industrial demand than Gold. Also, all 3 are cheaper than gold. Platinum is especially under valued since their is much more gold than platinum. Rhodium is another metal to consider but the market for it is not as large. Gold and silver historically has had around a 16 to 1 ratio. Since Gold is around $1700 and ounce, that should put silver over the $100 an ounce mark. Brass and lead will also be in high demand.

      I think percentage rise in silver will outshine gold in the long run. Most of the gold ever mined is still around in some form….most of the silver ever mined is scattered to the winds. Above ground supply of silver is less than above ground supply of gold at this time.

      China has announced they intend to get REALLY serious about solar power….upping their previous stated goals to 40 gigawatts in just a few years. A gigawatt of solar panels uses 3.2 million ounces of silver. (about 1/10gram per watt) Multiply that times 40, just for China. Throw in another 50-100 gigawatts for the rest of the world, and we’re talking some SERIOUS consumption of silver just in the solar area.

Investing in silver may be feasible if done the way BI suggested. I will look into that.         The biggest problem with booze is that it is not that hard to make. Without the Feds crawling all over the local boys with stills, there will be PLENTY of booze after the SHTF. It is likely that we will have more than we can drink, so will be running cars and other machines on it too. Lots of places in the US can raise sugar beets, corn, or potatoes. All can be made into alcohol suitable for drinking. Maybe these aren’t Jack Daniels or Smirnoff but they sure work the same.

      Think of precious metals in these different “lights”:

      It’s a store of wealth that persists in the event of a EMP attack, naturally occuring CME, or hacker attack that wipes out all electronic blips.

      If reckless fiscal policy causes the US dollar to lose much or all of its value, PMs hold their value.

      If TSHTF, after the crisis stabilizes somewhat, PMs can be used for barter for large purchases like farms and houses, assuming most people will lose all confidence in federal reserve notes.

      If preppers, doomsday survivalists, conspiracy theorists, chicken littles, etc, all turn out to be wrong, PMs are a good investment even in so-called “normal” times.

      I agree with JM Denver’s statement that you should take care of the basics first before turning your hard earned money into PMs. Other than that, I’ve never heard an argument advocating against PMs that makes any real sense.

I’d like to challenge thwe SHTF to go to the local wal-marts in your area and ask whats going on, then post it back here on Mac’s site..         Good list. Now add fishing equipment, small manufactured goods like needles and thread, matches, fish hooks, etc. and a good bow and some arrows to the list. A bow is a great weapon for those skilled in its use… relatively silent, deadly within about 40-50 yards, and a good hunting tool as well. Arrows are cheap and last a long time if we don’t lose them or break them on a tree or a rock. Of course, with some practice, it is possible to make new ones.

You can sometimes pick up beautiful, antique, 18kt pieces. Possibly from estates being liquidated. I do this for my wife. She is happy that she receives some bling. I am happy because I am spending money on something that gains in value. Also, you don’t have the capital gains concerns that you may have with bullion.

      Gold will only drop when the government acts responsibly. I’m not betting that will happen any time soon.

          I think you’re mistaken. Oh, they may “call it in” or “declare it not money” but they’ll never come and confiscate it. Talk about a shooting war? If they start confiscating high value property and people will go nuts on them.

          Gold is protected just like arms and requires just compensation and due process. So, again, if they do something like that, its treason and will be like stepping on a land mine. This is why they try and devalue gold and silver. Its the only way they can take it from you without repercussions. …and I LOVE IT! Everytime they push it down, I buy more.

          The reason so many things are coming to a head is because they are running out of influence. The internet is creating an informed people. Because so much commerce is initiated by the internet, they can’t shut it down or the economy will collapse. People would not put up with that either. The fact is, they’ve backed themselves into a corner. They will, eventually, attempt to take the guns, but, not while the internet is up because they know, nothing will lift the American Patriot’s Soul like the images of bullet ridden bodies of gun confiscators.           There are so many things right now that will turn on the “turbo sausage grinder” and suck in the feds that they are having to back off. Say the wrong thing or do the wrong thing and the blood will run in the streets.

          Most know now that “Sandy Hoax” was nothing more than a staged event. Not all the players are known but we know there is are a lot of lies coming from top level people.

          It looks like Aurora was similar.

          When they finally stop manipulating gold and silver it means they have lost almost all of their influence. This is when the direct looting will take place. Proxy looting now. Direct looting when they lack the influence of their proxy “power”. This is why they need to have us disarmed. Its hard to break into peoples’ houses and demand their gold, food and other property if there is a threat of getting shot.

          Before you loot the bank, you have to disarm the guards. But, they are running out of time. Their influence is fading. People are realizing they’re being screwed by the system and duped by the dollar. As the statist forces’ influence fades, they will become more and more desperate to steal your stuff. They may even try it before they try to take the guns, realizing that one is about as bad as the other. They really don’t want the guns. They simply don’t want to get shot as they steal your retirement funds, your gold and your real estate.

          The simple fact of the matter is that they cannot lawfully restrict arms just as they cannot lawfully confiscate your gold. If you know anything about law and you haven’t been brainwashed by your respective law school you know that the right to keep and bear arms cannot lawfully be infringed on and that ANY regulation attempted is infringement. Your right to own, shoot and carry any arms anywhere is virtually unlimited. I’m not saying the gun rights subversives honor it, I’m saying they don’t but they do not have the lawful right to restrict either your carrying (bearing) or your having (keeping). They imply they can. Well, that “can” because they have a monopoly of unlawful force at their disposal. They don’t have the law on their side but they do have more men to follow their orders. That may be coming to an end as well as their financial manipulative ability.

          Every gun restriction ever written as “law” is nothing but manure marks on paper worthy of wiping your backside. The right to keep and bear arms is UNLIMITED in every way in so much as it does not infringe on the rights of others. Thats the way it is and that is the way it is intended.

          I have told you before, government is the most dangerous thing. In this case, there is nothing that unlawfully infringes as much as government.

          The gun rights subverting seditionists will pay someday, probably in blood. I just pray I’m here to see and or assist in their demise.

          Most people did not have much gold back in 1933, so FDR’s calling in the gold was primarily directed at the banks. They DID have a lot of gold. They had pulled it out of the economy and were holding it in an effort to milk assets from those who owned it at fire-sale prices. They have done this many times in the past and it has always worked.

          Also, Executive Order 6102 was announced 30 days before it was to be implemented, so the rich had plenty of time to stash their gold in other countries… like Switzerland, Mexico, England, and Canada. There were no rules against taking assets out of the country back then or IRS reporting requirements either. Lots of privately held gold fled the country during those 30 days.

        Barn Cat….I wouldnt bank on the fact that gold couldnt collapse. It days of old, gold was used as currency and as a ‘back-up’ to currency. Today, money is stored in petro-dollars.

        Gold is mostly bought and sold on the ETF markets. The paper traders are dictating the price. We really dont know the ‘true’ value of gold because the day traders are using it like a casino. It is easier to make money on gold as ETFs than physical, because physical is hard to trade.

        Mainly, China and India are buying physical gold. They are doing this as a hedge of a World Financial economic collapse.

        If we have hyperinflation in USA, then gold could go to $10,000 an ounce. But what good is it if the currency (dollar) isnt any good? It would be like buying gold today with confederate money. The best time to sell gold is when the economy is good, not bad.

        Thus, if you buy gold, remember you will need to store it for a better day. Gold does have risks, and people need to know those risks.

            Rick, that is basically what I said above. If buying gold or silver before an economic collapse people need to realize that you will be ‘storing’ the PM and not really using it.

            You won’t be cashing them in during hyperinflation, so they really are a PM that you are storing for a better currency or economy.

            I have bought silver. The only reason is so that I could either use it later, or give it to my kids.

            I was responding to the assumption that gold, or silver, are safe havens. In past they were. Today the speculators have driven this market as they have with all other markets. Gold prices are driven by the paper day traders. The value can go up or down on their ‘feelings’ of the moment.

            Thus, physical metals you buy and then store somewhere and then tell no-one where it is at, except maybe spouse.

            How do you know that copper isnt the PM sleeper?

            Gold is fine. People should invest in physical PMs. I prefer silver because it is more convienient and somewhat easier to get. They are proven inflation fighters during recessions and depressions.

          @ Ugly. I saw your comment on the last article about that you were suffering from hemorrhoids the past few days. From the temperature out that you said was -14F it sounds like you might be dehydrated. The colder the air temperature is the less water vapor can be held in the air. When you try to warm up your home with air that filters in from the outside, the relative humidity drops to Sahara Desert levels or lower. A real good humidifier will help with the air moisture. Drinking lots of water is an absolute. As we age we lose the thrist instinct, so many people must force themselves to drink water.

          Waste material that is dry and hard will tear up tissues. Fiber of course aids in the waste removal a lot. Avoid white flour products as this makes the situation a lot worse. Remember how they use to make Playdoy with white flour? Most people don’t get enough fiber and it ranges from at least 25 grams up to 50 grams per day or more depending on your individual body. Many cereals are loaded with fiber. Fruits is good also. Junk foods avoid like the plague.

          In many health books they advice on using Witch Hazel to ease the pain. The main issue with any health aliment is to cure the underlining cause, and truly water, each day and enough of it is so important for waste removal that doesn’t cause problems. One item that helps heal skin and tissue is Vitamin A, the beta carotene variety. The other Vitamin A from like fish oil can be toxic to the liver with high doses. When the problem that caused this is resolved, your body should begin healing itself. Trust me on this one, make sure you get enough water each day. Health people say at least eight 8oz. glasses a day, more if the air is really dry.

            @Be Informed–Thanks for advice. I thought it was hemmorrhoids, but it was only itchy ass syndrone. I took extra long bath and it went away.

            What I think happened is I went for a jog in -15F at 9:00 AM. I was bundled up well and looked like a human marshmellow on the greenbelt. I had on double layers. When I was finished I was surprised by the ice that had formed inbetween the layers. It was a mistake, so treadmill until cold spell goes away. Suppose to be back to normal by this Thursday or Friday.

            But this has me thinking. Today, some scientists feel that sunspots are affecting global warming. In the 1970s, they said they could be causing a ‘mini’ ice age. I am beginning to think there is a better correlation of increased sunspot activity and cold spells on earth. This winter blast reached clear to Los Angeles I hear. It was like 42F in LA.

            Just as soon as these sunspots started to go crazy, we hit sub zero temperatures in Eastern Idaho. Hamer was an -34F this morning. Idaho Falls about -18F. Blackfoot and Pocatello vary between -6F to -13F.

            I hope SHTF does not happen this week, because I am not bugging out anywhere.

      Markets are made up of people with diverse opinions.

      Some people don’t care which direction gold goes because they deal in it and make profit from the spread, buying at wholesale and selling at retail, hedging possible inventory losses.

      Some people buy gold just as insurance, and disregard the possible loss because they regard a loss as the “insurance premium”. But you can’t buy too much or you might wind up being insurance premium poor. You don’t buy unlimited amounts of life insurance; just enough to help your survivors get past your death. Figure out what loss you are insuring against (how big is that loss), and make sure you are only insuring against that loss.

      So that leaves speculators in gold (and silver) who expect to make money buy buying low and selling high (or the opposite in a bear market). Speculating is not for the average person because most people don’t have the skill to determine when the price is high and when it is low. Most people don’t have the discipline to follow a rational plan, instead getting emotionally involved in their decisions.

      So if you are not a dealer and not a rational speculator, then expect to lose because you are only buying insurance and paying a premium.

      If you want the advice of a speculator, stay out of gold and silver in 2013 because they likely are in a bear market and you could incur significant losses owning them. If you want to speculate look at the stock market with the expectation that it will double by the end of 2013, but plan on selling out at year end.

        Is is many years since last I read that….your posting it here is timely, to say the least. Mr Henry’s words are as relevant today as when he spoke them. For long years we have suffered the abuses of those who ‘know best’ and the train of abuses conitnues to mount month by month; The Patriot Act and of late the shenanigans with the NDAA and now the venomous attacks against gun owners …where does it end? Again, thank you for this reminder.

      A college student needed to do a paper for his masters degree project and he wanted to do something in relation to animal behavior. He thought about the statement that if you give a million monkeys a million typewriters, and in a million years they would come up with the complete works of Shakespeare.
      Not having the money for a million typewriters, access to a million monkeys, or million years of time to test this theory the lad came up with another test of animal intelligence.
      Having about six thousand dollars to work with he went to the dollar general store and bought 535 ten dollar pocket calculators, two 500 sheet packs of paper and 535 number two lead pencils.
      He then proceeded to convince zoo keepers to let him pass out this material out to monkeys in their zoos. One calculator, one sheet of paper, one pencil, to each monkey
      30 days later the student came back and gathered up the scraps of paper to see what the monkeys came up with.
      It seems the monkeys played with the calculators, and than tried to write on paper the numbers they saw on them. After the student arranged the crude numbers in rows and columns, and then totaled them up it seems the results were a complete and balanced budget for the government of the United States!!

      Dad took great pride in bringing back 12 squab during a work day. He did it many times and we ate well in the big city (Glasgow Scotland). Instead of buying chicken and beef we ate pigeons back in the 50’s. The money saved helped us to move from Scotland to Canada.

      Living in Poland, Dad had a good feeling of what to do, as Stalin and Hitler were good teachers.

      He saw greater opportunities in Canada without “Pricks in Power” as in Europe.

      He made every effort to get away from government and in so doing, taught us well in the woods.

      Advance that thinking to now, and pigeons will be on the table for many in the near future.

      Over the past five years, have been buying a little PMs every month, but not at he expense of other useful items, like tools, food preps, non hybrid seeds, knives, axes, saws, quality clothing, and ammo. As to ammo, been buying every month for the past couple of years. It all adds up, and now have a plentiful supply. As for firearms, I keep it simple. Main home defense gun is Mossberg 500 .12 gauge. Pistols are stainless steel revolvers, .38 special and .357 magnum. Rifle is Henry Big Boy .357, the “assault” rifle of the Old West. Pretty common and readily available ammo, and pretty trouble free basic firearms that have already given me years of trouble free service. No need to get fancy. My kids are the AR-15 aficionados, and great shots besides. But when their fancy sticks jam, or they run out of ammo, I’ll be here to back them up with my old fashioned stuff.

      As to clothing, only quality will do. And do not forget basic sewing and boot repair supplies.

      Went to my local gun/ camping supply store today to pick up some USA wool socks and bought several pair. Although I have some nice USA made Pendleton shirts, was about ready to buy a couple of Woolrich shirts, only to find out they are now made in China. Damn! So passed on that, angry that yet another American company went cheap and sold out its employees.

      Quit shopping Walmart many years ago. Take just one look at the downtowns of every small town in America, and you see the utter destruction Walmart wreaked on small business in America. I am hoping they do permanently bar the sales of ammo, and it sufficiently pisses enough people off so that a boycott begins and we do some economic damage to the monster. I encourage all of you here to make every effort to buy only USA made stuff. Most home grown stuff is of superior quality and costs more. But hey! Cheap is as cheap does.

      Back to my local gun store. Still crowded with first time purchasers, buying up any thing, Even junk stuff, and there was little left. No ammo hardly left. A freaking, unbelievable frenzy, and doubtless a taste of things to come.

      Did buy some extra gun cleaning supplies. Already have a lot of that, but good barter items down the road.

      So will we see the same frenzy for for gold and silver in months to come? The central bank paper traders may keep the lid on to awhile, but the lid will eventually blow off and the frenzy and panic will push prices to unbelievably high levels. Of course, this bubble, like all bubbles, will pop. But for those of us who got in early, so what?

      For any of you new to prepping, don’t panic. No telling when bad times will hit. Just get started with the basics…water….food….medicine…..self defense. You also don’t need to break the bank. Just get a little very month. And if you are low on funds, go through your attic, your garage, your storage unit, and get rid of all your worthless junk at a yard sale or at a flea market to raise some cash. And one last piece of advice. Get in shape! Get off the junk food and soda. Start taking some walks at the very least. And if you have kids, knock off the TV and video games, and spend some time with them playing cards or in outdoor activities. Most importantly, get right with your Maker!

      There were reportedly 2.8-million NICS checks in Dec alone. Figure an average of $500 per firearm transaction (a lot of these were pricey “evil black guns”) for a total of $1.4-billion. Figure another $150-mil for magazines and $500-mil for ammo. Moreover, the NICS checks don’t account for all firearms transactions; various analysts note that not only were the Dec checks abnormally high, but they were also an abnormally high percentage of the total transactions – figure 50%. Now extrapolate for a continued buying binge through this date in January.

      Bottom line: It looks to me like the total firearms related capital reallocation from Sandy Hook to date is somewhere between $2- and $5-billion. As a “bottoms up” market phenomenon, the magnitude and speed of this shift is unprecedented in our lifetimes. It certainly underscores the comments in the article about what could happen to gold when a comparable public epiphany occurs.

    70. Gold price is bieng fixed. The central banks agreed to not let the free market dictate supply and demand, but since 1999 the CBGA dictates the supply. So the price is artificially inflated now since the supply is artificially lowered.
