The U.S. power grid appears to have been hit with multiple power outages affecting San Francisco, New York and Los Angeles.

Officials report that business, traffic and day-to-day life has come to a standstill in San Francisco, reportedly the worst hit of the three major cities currently experiencing outages.

Power companies in all three regions have yet to elaborate on the cause, though a fire at a substation was the original reason given by San Francisco officials.

A series of subsequent power outages in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and New York City left commuters stranded and traffic backed up on Friday morning. Although the outages occurred around the same time, there is as of yet no evidence that they were connected by anything more than coincidence.

The first outage occurred at around 7:20 a.m. in New York, when the power went down at the 7th Avenue and 53rd Street subway station, which sent a shockwave of significant delays out from the hub and into the rest of the subway system. By 11:30 a.m. the city’s MTA confirmed that generators were running again in the station, although the New York subways were set to run delayed into the afternoon.

Later in the morning, power outages were reported in Los Angeles International Airport, as well as in several other areas around the city.

The San Francisco Fire Department was responding to more than 100 calls for service in the Financial District and beyond, including 20 elevators with people stuck inside, but reported no immediate injuries. Everywhere, sirens blared as engines maneuvered along streets jammed with traffic.

Traffic lights were out at scores of intersections, and cars were backing up on downtown streets as drivers grew frustrated and honked at each other.

The cause of the outage has not yet been made clear, though given the current geo-political climate it is not out of the question to suggest a cyber attack could be to blame. It has also been suggested that the current outages could be the result of a secretive nuclear/EMP drill by the federal government.

As we have previously reported, the entire national power grid has been mapped by adversaries of the United States and it is believed that sleep trojans or malware may exist within the computer systems that maintain the grid.

In a 2016 report it was noted that our entire way of life has been left vulnerable to saboteurs who could cause cascading blackouts across the United States for days or weeks at a time:

It isn’t just EMPs and natural disaster that poses a threat to the grid, but there is also the potential for attacks on individual power substations in the vast network of decentralized and largely unguarded power grid chain. A U.S. government study established that there would be “major, extended blackouts if more than three key substations were destroyed.”

Whether by criminals, looters, terrorists, gangs or pranksters, it would take very little to bring down the present system, and there is currently very little the system can do to protect against this wide open threat.

Whether the current outages are the result of a targeted infrastructure cyber attack or simply a coincidence, most Americans think the impossible can’t happen, as The Prepper’s Blueprint author Tess Pennington highlights, a grid-down scenario won’t just be a minor inconvenience if it goes on for more than a day or two:

Consider, for a moment, how drastically your life would change without the continuous flow of energy the grid delivers. While manageable during a short-term disaster, losing access to the following critical elements of our just-in-time society would wreak havoc on the system.

    • Challenges or shut downs of business commerce
    • Breakdown of our basic infrastructure: communications, mass transportation, supply chains
    • Inability to access money via atm machines
    • Payroll service interruptions
    • Interruptions in public facilities – schools, workplaces may close, and public gatherings.
    • Inability to have access to clean drinking water

It is for this reason that we have long encouraged Americans to prepare for this potentially devastating scenario by considering emergency food reserves, clean water reserves and even home defense strategies in the event of a widespread outage.

The majority of Americans have about 3 days worth of food in their pantry.

Imagine for a moment what Day 4 might look like in any major city that goes dark.

This exclusive clip from American Blackout shows what an extended outage might look like:

Prepare for the worst, because this is one scenario you do not want to face.

      1. Gotham Shield Drill dry run. They know what’s coming and the crooks are not prepared. Even the sheeple, the best they can do is honk at each other. Really pathetic, no one seems to have learned anything, to say the least.

Prep, and keep prepping. This will be a long haul when it hits.

                  • Can someone please tell me what are some manufactures of solar panels of good quality and approx number of panels/wattage to keep the necessities running in my home. I know nothing about solar and fuel/propane will be hard to acquire at some point. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

                    • Jackknife:

I don’t remember names, but living in Northern California a few years ago, there were representatives from a solar company which offered free installation of solar panels if you owned your house and you could show proof that your monthly bill was over $150.00.

I talked with a private company, (Patterson, Peterson, I don’t recall). This private company explained that this other group was connected to the power companies. That you never really own the solar system on your house.

In any case, I think you should think twice before choosing.

I don’t have them, but the Tesla shingles look like regular shingles on a roof. For op-sec and for resale potential, I think looking into these would be pretty smart.

Sorry I can’t be of any real assistance. Good luck.

My Response to that: That’s a sales Gimmick, as Nothing is Free, the Installation costs are built into the Price as one number. Do you really think people work for free installing solar for the fun of it. lol

                    • Hi Jacknife
                      I hope all is well.
I can help you for sure. I’ve been designing and installing systems in Canada for about 10 years. Got most of my training in the US of A actually.
The size of the system depends on exactly what it is that you want to run.
You will need to do a load analysis. It’s pretty straight forward actually.
If you want to run a 7W LED light for 2-3 hours a day you would take the 7W and multiply by the 3hours to get 21Wh. (Watt hours). We want to do this for all the lighting, appliances, electronics.
If the water pump draws 7A and is 120V AC that’s 840W. If it runs four times a day for 2 minutes that’s a total of eight minutes which is 0.133 hours. The 840W x the 0.133 hours is 112Wh. You just do this calculation for all the loads then get me a total. I will tun some calculations and let you know the size of the battery bank required. Everything else is sized from that.
You can’t run high resistive loads suck as the heating elements in a hot water tank or an electric stove or heating element on a clothes dryer. Other than that, toaster, microwave,tv newer fridge etc are no problem.
                      Hope that helps.

                    • Hi again,

If you don’t want to get to specific on sizing you ca. You can get a basic system that will run lights and some electronics and ration the power. You will need a charge controller. I would get an OutBack FM60 if you have the money. It will allow you to add more modules later if needed and it’s a reliable and easy controller to program. Get four six volt deep cycle batteries. The size you are looking for is L16. They should be around 350 to 450Ah (amp hours) in capacity. Depends on the brand and model. You will connect the 4 in series to get you 24V. If you would prefer a 12V system connect two in series then the other two in series(positive of one to the negative of the other is series) then parallel the two strings of batteries. That will keep the voltage at 12V. You should get a Magnum MS inverter or something similar. Outback FX inverters are god as well but only 120V output. The magnum has 120/240VAC output. The New Outback Radian is nice but pretty expensive and more than you likely need. For solar modules go with 3 (if you can afford 3) 250W modules. Brand is not really super important when it comes to modules. Don’t by no name but there are a lot of options. Solarwolrd are great. LG, Silfab, Panasonic, Trina Solar, Canadian Solar etc. Mono or poly are both fine.
                      Thanks
                      SolarGuy out

                    • I put a Zantrex 4500 watt inverter being fed by 2250 watts of Yingli panels. It has been up for 7 years now and it works seamlessly.
I set it up as a 48 volt system with 6 volt batteries in series. I have the banks wired in parallel to raise the ampacity.
You need to calculate your electrical loads and go from there.
My well, the fridge and the furnace blower are all on the inverter and it can be fed by the grid, the solar panels or a diesel generator. It switches between all of these automatically.

Don’t ever think it will be cost effective though. It costs a LOT up front but you have peace of mind some degree at least.

                      Good luck!

                    • I use Renogy panels. They have starter kits with everything you need except the batteries. I get deep cycle batteries at my local tractor supply and heavy gauge cables to connect them at Amazon. Power outages are just an inconvenience now.

                    • Thanks to all who replied, there’s a lot of good info here, at least to start from.

                    • BE VERY VERY CAREFUL with those companies!
There was one that came to our home after we saw an ad stating this same stuff, in Northern Cali…it all seemed great, but in the end THEY OWN it, not you and THEY provide the system, installation, etc…you RENT the power and the pieces from them.
I thought it was a good idea, but hubby said its a scam…
So ya, Id need way more info before I went that route….
They were called VIVINT.solar…the odd thing was? for a company, they had gmail accounts….as an IT person that struck me as totally weird.
Id think you’d be better off getting a good reputable company to help you out and then start small (if you cant afford the systems) and build on it.
Even if you just bite the bullet and buy a good solar generator that can run your freezers and well pumps (which is what we are doing) you’d be better off then most people.

One of the largest issues with loosing the grids, especially if your in the cities, or even suburbs, is WATER and SEWER! 99.999% of cities and suburbs use power to get your water to you and take your sewer away..(unless your rural and have well and septic)….
So with that within a day or so you’d loose your water pressure…then the crap will really hit the fan!
Since most people dont truly realize that a wide scale power outage will affect more than their lights, TVs and iPADs!
If you cant get water, or flush your toilets because the sewer treatment plants are backed up, how long do you think it will take for people to freak out? LOL I’d bet an even 3 days before people realize life as they knew it is whacked out and changed for the worst!

              • To all you NewBees looking for Solar and how much you will need and costs. Go get a copy of your electric bill, and add up the total amount of kWh – Kilo Watt Hours you use per year. Then go to this website a plug this info in the calculator. Link: http://www.freecleansolar.com/Solar-Calculator-s/4097.htm

                1. kWh per year. lets say 18500
                2. Use the Solar Hour map, I use 5 Solar hours for Florida for that number.
                3. Then put in 100% to erase your electric bill
                4. Hit calculate. That will tell you the amount of KW DC amount of panels you will need. Of course this is for a perfect direct south facing direction.
                5. Then for Grid Tie, Estimate cost per watt, Grid tie put in about $2.50 per Watt.
                6. Then hit calculate, and that gives you a rough estimate for how much a Grid Tied solar system you will need and will cost you.

Off Grid systems times that amount by about 8 to 10 times because adding a Battery backup is the largest expense of a full off the grid solar system.

              • Indeed. Been watching space weather, big coronal facing us right now.

Something I’ve been doing is downloading entire websites for offline reading in case internet goes down. Great program for all platforms including Linux is kiwix to download the entire Wikipedia. Can download whole websites with httrack and others. Prepper sites, gardening, etc all good choices. Download to an external hard drive, wrap in aluminum foil, and if you have an old laptop running Linux stored in a Faraday cage, you’ve got access to critical and quite possibly life saving information.

              • Solar flares may have caused these outages as well. But we will likely never know what happened for sure because all the info/data is not really known and most likely would not be acknowledged if it were known.

            • I wrote this before, and will one more time. I had dinner with a man I have known years – a European with a Ph.D in the computer field. He was in the US recently working with infrastructure cybersecurity. Of course, he couldn’t tell me details, but when I asked about infrastructure, particularly grid, hacking, he said that it was very clear they have penetrated our infrastructure. I didn’t ask to what extent – 5%, 50%, 95% – but the sense I got was that it was the larger number.

I then asked about the threat to taking down the grid. He said that most of the hackers that he was aware of wanted MONEY, so that would be counterproductive. Rather, they preferred the ransomware route. Also, taking down a system would bring full attention of the govt, whereas now they are too small to put limited resources to.

But here is the question: if THEY can get in, how long until the N. Koreans, Iranians, etc. get in too? Maybe one of their geeks, maybe they buy code – either way, they are in. Will the then do something? No, as that would invite reprisals. BUT… if we threaten their national security, then what? THAT, mes amis, is the million dollar question. You have a nutcase like Kim, or Islamfascists like Iran, who are going down and know it. So, what will **then** hold them back from unleashing everything they’ve got??

Then there is the Carrington Event and CMEs. We were just a few weeks “behind” in our orbit a few years ago, or otherwise we would have hit a massive CME, and I would be writing this in pencil, perhaps, right now.

Preparedness is wise. Hopefully nothing will happen, but better to have your insurance up to date.

        • I remember watching that blackout video and thinking to myself that the second person I would have run off in that situation was the punk-ass snowflake teenager that set himself in opposition to the father. As I recall, he was actually just a family acquaintance…..boyfriend or something of the daughter or something like that (I could be mistaken about the relationship). Regardless……he was a security risk and threat to the whole family. It would have taken me about 5 seconds to run his ass off.

      2. HERE IS A MAP THAT SHOWS HOW MANY BLACKOUT CAUSED BY SQUIREELS

        http://cybersquirrel1.com/

        • Had a squirrel blow the breaker on the transformer that fed my house once. I called the power company and reported it. A gum chewing clerk goes how the hell do you know the cause, do you know our systems?

I said because the squirrel is still smoking! She laughted, and said truck dispatched.

          • Yep. Heat went out last year. When I pulled the cover off the compressor unit outside, a huge crispy lizard was fried across the capacitor terminals.

            • Crispy lizard ? sounds delicious ?

            • Yup, smoking is especially bad for squirrels!

It was kind of cool, I was looking out the window as I tied my tie for work. Oops, did I date myself?

There were two male squirrels competing for one female. They were racing around the tree, telephone pole and transformer. I saw the blue arc and one squirrel went down. The other squirrels blinked for a few seconds and the other male took out after the female. Lil fukkers.

              • The squirrels where I live would have had sex with the dead squirrel.

          • Saw that at Mom’s house once while visiting. Bright flash, loud pop, and an overcooked squirrel on the driveway.

            • Were these squirrels hired by Iran or N. Korea, maybe?

      3. UH-OH… ITS STARTED…

I have a map I kept for the longest time in my little, black SHTF booklet… It shows the graph of the decline of oil/gas in the US. At first there is the gradual decline and then finally a sharp decline marked, “power outages”… just before the steep decline and then the “apocalyse” (leveling off phase)… no food, total chaos, etc. Its written by the IEO or somethng–the Internation Energy something-or-other.

HCKS is correct on that topic.

          • MS-13 is a very real emerging gang/guerilla threat. Central American gang with military skills, motivation, and disdain for the US…

            • In a widespread crisis, being deported will be the least of MS-13s concerns. After a few raids, they’ll be hunted down and given a stern warning. They make themselves easy to spot with their affinity for facial art.

            • If they start tagging walls in your area, get ready for trouble. Get the neighbors together
              and form your own crew.

          • Anon…there is a reason this is not done.
            1) the politicians and their friends couldn’t get high
            2) this nation runs on illegal drugs one way or another
Take drugs away and this nation collapses in 1..2..3..

            • Anonymous, those points you make would solve 99% of our problems.
JJ, take drugs away and buy stock in liquor companies. Get rich quick.

            • The CIA’s black budget runs on opium sales from Afghanistan. The CIA is the worlds largest drug dealer.

Its written by the IEO or somethng–the Internation Energy something-or-other

      6. Oops…! Used wrong name in first one

        • This is a coordinated attack by the squirrel population…

          Get the MOAB’s ready.

          • Yes the squirrels. No power, no grid, no internet, no way to do back ground checks, so no gun for you, no way to get squirrels. Smart

            • I thought I smelled fried rodent.

            • Gandhi, squirrels can be taken out with a BB or pellet gun. Quieter than a .22LR.

            • Gandhi – lol!

              • Squirrel = banker

          • Too funny MAC! Truly laughed out loud on that!

          • They were panicking when told there might be someone coming after their nuts.

          • A squirrel flicked his tail at me this morning. I should’ve seen it was a veiled threat….

            • Are you sure it was his tail?

          • The Squirrels by Alfred Hitchcock

            • And Jackrabbits…

            • Grandee,
LOL. One of my most favorite movies is The Birds.

          • Damn Rocky conspiring with Boris and Natasha.

        • We’ve had the little buggers take down the power in our neighborhood several times.

They get in the transformers somehow and “ZAP!!” Fried squirrel and no power.

      7. Of course, the IEA would not put, “chaos–no food”, etc… they just put “other energy sources” for the sharp declines– and little dotted lines– indicating they intend to find other energy sources for the non-existent oil periods

      8. Can’t say I feel a darn bit sorry for the city ants. Scurrying about headless…..

        • Please, we need to pack up all our preps and FedEx them to the big cities!

      9. I ASSUME THIS IS WHY THE WARS WITH OIL-RICH COUNTRIES FOR THE LAST SEVERAL YEARS… As Bush said as soon as he took office (just before the 9/11 false flag attack)…”the American way of life is non-negotiable.”

        • We’re an oil rich country.

With recent finds and new technologies one of the most oil rich in the world.

      10. Well I couldn’t pick any better places for the power to poop out. I don’t give a hoot. Actually its good for them to do without. Maybe they will learn how to cope better when the grid goes down permanently? Having adversity and overcoming your troubles makes you stronger. I for the first time in many years feel a bit optimistic. Im really liking the Double T team of Tillerson & Trump. T &T are not asking permssion from the UN Congress or anyone. They are problem solving with a bang. What good is having things like MOABS if you don’t use them? Loose Cannon Trump best president ever! Harry Truman would be proud of him!

        • well, they SAID to unplug the power for a weekend to see what it would be like during a EMP…..so i guess they will KNOW now what it would be like…..poor poor simps.

            • That is one big buttery cracker!

            • Thats pretty easy,,, im going to try it, maybe use cookie cutters and roll it out
              ??????

        • Are you serious? More war for nothing other than greed, and the potential mass extinction of people? Trump is controlled by the same people. “Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.”- The Who.
By the way. I voted for him and was really wrong. I should have never abandoned my pro-freedom, libertarian principles.

          • Wouldnt matter, its all just a show, if voting really mattered they wouldnt let us do it,

          • Liberty76,
            1. Please go to the White House web site and look at the already record number of Executive Orders Pres Trump has issued before yo say DJT is doing nothing for Americans. I think you’ll be surprised. You can read the text of those orders. POTUS is getting a lot done in his first 100 days contrary to what the globalist press says.
            2. So far there are no new wars the US has entered period. Obama left US Foreign policy in shambles and much of the world at war. DJT is dealing with dozens of regional wars Obama ether promoted or flat out started. I’m not sure why people expect him to approach the worlds nuttiest nations with kid gloves. When you go to buy a car with a dealer cost of $35k, do you just offer $45k because you want to be nice to the Dealer? No you are going to go in with a tougher stance. And yes I’ve been tossed out of car dealers for being to annoying and belligerent, but I get my car in the end, and I get it cheap.
            3. I’m tired of hearing people fret and cower because of what POTUS Trump MIGHT do. That line stinks of CNN/MSNBC Fake news. When I see people post about what Trump “MIGHT DO”, I smell a progressive/globalist shill, or at least someone who watches too much “Fake-News-R-US”.

            • PTPO: couldn’t agree more. Glad I’m not the only one out thinking this.

            • he DOES sound a bit like a troll, doesn’t he…

              • I never met a good salesman that wasn’t obnoxious.

DJT has been selling real estate and development services all his life. He’s been successful.

I’m most impressed by his ability to deal with Asians and Arabs, both notoriously tough at negotiating. It’s been a long time since we had a president who was even close to Trumps abilities.

        • I DO agree with Tillerson’s statement to NATO “allies” that USA paying the freight for NATO is unsustainable.
Ditch NATO and buddy up with Russia and China. Western Europe is lost. They “suspect” the attack in France ‘may’ have been terrorism. A lot of the rapees in Europe “work” in “refugee centers” or have taken “refugees” into their own homes. Hard to feel sorry for some idiot who thought it would be a good idea to bring some turd world nigger home.

        • Yes, read those and agree with these assessments by Hodges. I hate it for our children because they have no future thanks to many greedy and evil scum. I’ll fight and probably die for my family. But I’m gonna try like hell to not die.

          • “No bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making some other poor dumb bastard die for his country.” General George S. Patton

            • Nobody ever won a war. Take the Native American for example: the men hunted and fished all day while the women weaved and did the chores. They paid no taxes(still don’t) and paid no rent to bankers. We should have joined them not extinct them? Oh well, they suck too.

            • Killing the enemy is certainly implied.

              • Amerikans don’t kill the enemy, we put them on welfare.

      11. San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, Three Democrat cities. What thinking person really gives a sh it. I have family near two of the affected cites and I know they are totally unprepared for extended disruptions of services. They think I’m crazy, at least I know they won’t be driving to visit me and asking for food and water.

      12. “Traffic lights were out at scores of intersections, and cars were backing up on downtown streets as drivers grew frustrated and honked at each other.”

We don’t have that problem here when the electricity goes out. Everyone defaults to stop sign rules at intersections and traffic keeps on, just a little slower. If a busy intersection gets congested, the cars in back u-turn and go to other streets.

        I’m glad I don’t live in a big city.

        • Same here. People are usually patient and cautious. That’s one of the reasons I love living )ere

      13. I’m not surprised. For some stupid reason libtards have been broadcasting how vulnerable our power grid is for years. Guess we are lucky that terrorists aren’t very good at picking up clues right? SSG U.S. Army (RET)

      14. Was kinda amused when reading the article from one paper in San Francisco which mentioned even the Starbucks shops were closed. Except for NYC and the West Coast, I think that would be the least of peoples’ worries.

        • Yea, how do ya like that, power is out and the worst thing on peoples minds is that they cant get their double decaf soy caramel chai latte

          • when they finally DO open the doors at starbucks, it’s gonna look like black-eye-day at walmart, i bet!

      15. What does an islamic terrorist squirrel scream just before he attacks? Does it really carry suicide bombs hidden in large nuts? Inquiring minds want to know. Only truthful media fake news media outlets can answer the questions. Hopefully, the fanatical squirrels will scramble up the pants legs of some socialist protestors.

        • Squeek squeeker squeekbar

          • I nearly peed myself.

          • hahaha very good. 🙂

            • alluh WHO at the snack-bar?

      16. A really bad thing is that states aren’t prepared to handle a situation like this. Cities are raising their prices on utilities right now, like water. Corruption and wasteful spending by cities have been going on for the past 10 years. They have no money for extra help. So they soak the people. You will be on your own.

      17. To hell with these commie cities and states. I am in rural CA up a very high mountain. These refugee liberals come near my ranch they will be looking at the end of a couple of 306s at 1000 yards.

        • ???

      18. Light out I didn’t notice. All my Solar lights kicked in and I’m living the LIFE!!! LOL

        Sgt.

      19. Lets see. Who will they blame for this. Fake news and false flag. Two of the biggest
catch-phrases out there now. Did you see they want to apprehend Assange like more
than before. All that vault 7 stuff really opened a big can of wormies. How dare he
release all of that dirt. I say good for him. Cant keep the sheeple in the dark forever.

        • Not a good point or position for DT to take on Assange. He is hero not a criminal. DT will lose a tremendous amount of support if he goes down this road. I sent DT a letter and may start a petition to free Assange ! Realize this is all coming from people like Dana Perrino who is a serious RINO status quo shill. Of course they want to shut up Asssange because he is exposing them for the criminals that they are just like BHO and crew.

          • I’m convinced that going after Assange is another chess-move, like bombing Syria was. Trump knows full well that if it weren’t for Wikileaks releasing all the Pizzagate emails, he might not have won. But if he embraces Wikileaks publicly, he’ll be accused of (among other things) ties to the Russians all over again. After all, the Russians leaked all that DNC stuff, right? Sigh.

I can only assume that Assange knows what’s going on. Not to tell him would not only be sadistic, but it would also guarantee that Wikileaks would fight back with the biggest guns they can find. Let’s see how strenuous a fight Wikileaks puts up against this–that should be a good tip-off.

      20. Left coast and Nueva Yorca. Sucks to be them.

        • Ya, we usually bust out the candles and the Scrabble board when the lights go out,,, actually kinda nice,

          • 9 months from now the midwives have to be ready. Undercover acrobatics.

      21. I do hope that those stuck due to family/jobs ect. in those regions got a nice prep wake up and saw that they has their act together as best as reasonable, rather not be there but do understand some folks kinda stuck. Those that prepare I wish the best of luck as I do to the rest of us it all breaks down.

While prepped longer term expect I will last a week at most, feel the dark side will unfortunately not fail me in witnessing and no matter the odds fighting atrocities, good way to die quick but a good way to die if fate makes that choice.

Oh Sarge, for cripes sake, the power goes out turn off the damn lights, will attract vermin like a light attracts moths(Moths cool unlike human vermin),just what you need after careful observation of your area!

      22. Couldn’t have happened to nicer cities..who left out Chicago and Detroit? Good wake up call. We’ll see how many heed the warning. Seems to be too much of a coincidence to have happened at the same time.

        • In Detroit they’re shocked when the power is ON for more than a few hours at a time.

          • DBC haha yep, in Detroit if the welfare check is not big enough to cover the cost of beer and drugs, the power bill doesn’t get paid.

        • I agree. I don’t believe in coincidences.

      23. The only power outage that I saw on network news was San Francisco and they blamed it on a fire at a substation. Generally, nine months after a power outage, there is an explosion of births. I have a feeling that San Francisco won’t have that problem.

        • Yeah they’ll just have an explosion of AIDS.

      24. I have big city relatives that have not a clue about how delicate the situation is now. These
are highly educated, wealthy people that would not even conceive the notion of
preparing for anything. I’m sure they look down on my low social status and yet I am
light years ahead of them in terms of basic preps. The notion of keeping any extra food or
supplies handy is alien to them. When the restaurants close, they starve. They think that
firearms are for lunatics and the police will protect everybody. They are so educated, they are stupid. I suppose if you live at or near Ground Zero, the point of prepping is moot. I try
to inform one of them about things that can happen. He tells me there is a lot of fear
mongering going on. It basically goes in one ear and out the other. I gave up trying to
understand them many years ago. They do not see the the signs that are evident.

        • Dont worry, your good, im in the same situation, tons of snooty relatives, all look down their nose at me, just dont really care as when shit gets ugly they will all be screwed,

          • So you tell them..God warned Noah; He didn’t build the damn Ark though!! 🙂

            • It would go right over most of their heads. Wouldnt even register what i was talking about.
Easier to smile and go anywhere but where they are.

          • I have had it with snooty realatives. They look down on me and insult me because I am a blue collar worker. I can’t wait to hear ?? them whine.

      25. Training.
        Then an after action report.
Analyses of what worked and what didn’t.
        Modify,correct and run another exercise?
Once all bugs worked out. Participants trained, then
        execution?

      26. An electric substation fire causes a temporary power failure in a Leftist city and everyone seems to think it signals the start of Armageddon or something.

I tend to think it is more the result of decades of neglect by the Democrats in charge who prefer fighting for pervert rights and minority preference hiring quotas to hiring competent people to maintain the electrical systems and giving them the resources to do it.

        • COULD be a dry run/test, but most likely simple neglect. When it causes cascading failures, “At this point, what difference does it make?”
Power companies are ill-equipped to handle extensive failures.
Like in every other industry, some manager got brownie points for “being innovative” and cutting costs by eliminating inventory. Kind of like lightening the cruise ship’s load by throwing out the life vests.

      27. …A government-staged false flag to be blamed on anyone whom government wants to denigrate and get the masses to bleat against.

        • But i don’t think it’s a coincidence not with three cities at about the same time. A test? By the gov or other? Gee, i’m getting more candles Saturday. Just remember to ration the candles. ONE candle in each room not 4 or 5 like you see in the stupid movies. And i would use one candle and carry it from room to room if alone. If someone in another room then still use one candle. Sit near it…cuz no matter how many candles ya have sooner or later will be all gone. So make em last as long as possible.

          • I think in the short term, flashlights and batteries are better. Candles can be a fire hazard.
Candles also advertise the fact that someone is inside the house because after all, they
illuminate. In a crazy situation where there is chaos, you want to use noise and light
discipline. In other words, don’t give some crazy shooter a target. If you are going to be
walking around in the house after dark, lay out any items you might need in designated areas ( like on a table or dresser ). Or if you are up and reading or doing something, you might want to do it in a room with no windows or a walk in closet. Or a basement with
blacked out windows, etc. Combat veterans will tell you that an enemy can zero in on
the cherry of a cigarette in the darkness. That is where noise and light discipline become
a big factor in terms of life and death.

          • Ok but candles can be toxic.

          • Put a mirror behind it to make the light go further.

      28. The grid is weak due to a lack of maintenance and upgrade funding. Deregulation of the generation end cut significant funds used to maintain the grid (distribution). There was a lot of fat in the system 40 years ago when PURPA started. Little by little they reduced it to muscle and bone.

The above like the one pound box of pasta that is now 13.5 ounces or cutting gym class to save money are just a couple examples of the endless trickery used to maintain the illusion without the substance. We’re all collectively seeing the “rubber meeting the road” simultaneously on just about everything.

        • I guess it’s time to stock up on more candles and matches. I am a Prepper in the far North of MI., U.P., but there is always something that escapes my mind, even though I read so many strategies…. dang it. I also write a Christian based Blog geared to helping other disabled combat Veterans: TOM’S JOURNAL. Email: [email protected] I just bought some more shotgun shells, today. I value all the comments, here.
Disabled Vietnam Veteran: 68-70. Jesus is Lord.

          • Thank you for serving Brother,
Any stratagy is better than none!

        • Kinda like how that section of freeway collapsed supposedly from a fire, i bet we start seeing stuff failing here and there,
In our state, on Oahu in Honolulu, the sewer and water systems are so outdated and decrepid that they are starting to have whole sections go bad all at once, new construction and hundreds of thousands of people all on the same systems and they were insufficient and falling apart 10 years ago, most of the freeways have huge chunks of concrete popping off of overpasses and elevated causeways because the rebar is rusting out, its not pretty, the keep putting bandaids on that crap, one of these days something is going to happen and Waikiki will be floating with raw sewage for weeks, they already had a force main fail and had to put in a temporary that floats in the Alawai, disgusting….

          • Where Mom lives they still use civil war-era sewer mains. The city of Cincinnati still has a few wooden water mains in use.

          • YEAH, and tourists wonder why Aloha has decreased from years ago.

        • Speaking about pasta it reminds me of the ramon noodles i had the other day. I couldn’t find any, so opened up a box that was from the yr 2000! Yep 17 yrs. The packet was no good. Threw it away., but the noodles were fine. Cooked up into a little soup added butter, garlic , pepper & salt and it tasted fine. Still got a few more boxes that hold a bunch. So looks like ramon will last a long time. I know it’s not good stuff cuz it’s fried in oil, but when you are starving it will fill the belly and good with salt and some garlic or pepper.

          • I like the chicken flavored ramen but the msg in the seasoning packet really makes me go if you know what I mean. I might have to find a substitute chicken base without msg. I found
out that if you add sone canned, sliced carrots and some Mrs. Dash its pretty good. There
must be a million ramen recipes out there. Good thing about Ramen is its dirt cheap and you can really stock up on that stuff. Even if it does expire , you won’t be out too much money because it doesn’t cost much anyways.

          • Cook it up then stir fry it with veggies

            • I was gonna suggest using dehydrated veggies…I have dried green peppers, onions, tomatoes, cabbage, green peas–just for my steamed noodles…Asian style and I make homemade sweet and sour sauce and have the 4 ingredients stocked for that:
brown sugar, ketchup, soy sauce, and vinegar

      29. Could they cause a temporary EMP situation by hitting a bunch of switches? Most at first would think it a major power outage or done by terrorist Suspects? The stores would be empty in 3 days ? Gas stations ? Waiting till the power came on till they run out of food, Then going house to house. They will congregate at water source. When too week to walk . Then die there and have to be moved and buried by people too week to walk. Every lake, stream will be surrounded by rotting bodies. The water will become contaminated. Flies will spread disease Any open cut . Trying to find clean water. Going to a well or water hole and getting out alive. Or not followed home. Then when their goals are realized they hit the switches and everything slowly starts up again. With nearly empty welfare rolls, zero unemployment, no traffic jams, no waiting in line . Easy cheap tickets to anything front row, cheap houses you just take any you want, cars too, So 2 months for the die off , another 2 to get things going again? 4 months of food and water.? 120 days a gallon per day? 2 or 3 50 gallon drums of water per person? Used 50 gallon drums are free everywhere. You can roll them around. In the backyard under a tarp? 3 days without water and your dead?

        • Meh ?

      30. Sure loving the 7 k Grid tie with battery back up and the Lister Geny right now….

      31. In regards to power outages…
I have a first hand experience with this during a visit to Hawaii in December 2008.
I had been talked into flying over to visit during the holidays. 24 hours after wheels down, the entire island lost power.
It was not quite dark yet, as the sun was just going down. I was just leaving a area near downtown called (I believe) magic island. Nice waterfront park area with paved walkways all around it. As I am sitting at the red light waiting to leave, looking at the downtown skyline, one by one you could watch the lights go out across the skyline. No streets lights, no traffic signals, and streets filled with vehicles. The only places that had power were the places with generators, and there were very few. I had to make my way half way across the island of Oahu in this mess. Managed to make my location where I was staying, and nobody had any information as to what was going on, and of course nobody had eaten yet. After a few hours of WTF is going on, a local radio station came back on the air ( car radio) to inform us of a power generation failure, and power company was waiting for replacement parts to be flown in from the mainland. We were without power until sometime mid morning. Kind of spooky when it all happened! – I was there, won’t be caught in that situation again EVER! I will be prepared.

        • I live on Maui, common misconception amongst peeps is that if the power is out they will just use cash to buy stuff,,,, WRONG! All the stores POS systems are grid tied and only grid tied so none of the stores can sell anything when the power drops out, generators in most stores are only to run security lights and systems and refrigeration

      32. I work for the largest electrical utility in North America. I know what caused this: routing. Power is purchased by electrical companies that do not have the resources to produce all they need. So they buy excess power from utilities that do. That power is then routed over those huge high voltage power lines to whatever utility needs it. We can litteraly roite power from one coast to the other. In this case multiple issies occured with the computer networks that run the stations. Cisco recently released a hardware update that was defective. Many pieces of networking hardware are failing, this is impacting control over power routing, among many other smaller utility functions for any company using thier hardware. This has been going on for 2 weeks while companys scramble to replace the now defective hardware. That is right, the update can’t be removed and Cisco claims new hardware is the solution. Suspicious? Expect a surge in Cisco stock.

Increase demand due to weather is what brought issue to the forefront.

The issue has ZERO to do with cyber attacks. Anyone who says it does, is a liar. But you won’t hear that either.

        • Yea, is sorta like when i get an email and text from AT&T saying im elligible for an upgrade on my phone and then within a week the phone starts acting up,,,
Next time im dumping it and getting a dumb phone,,,

      33. Instead of candles buy a few .97 cent solar driveway lights at Walmart. I had a few that I used for over a year. If you pay attention to keeping them pointed at the sun they will provide a couple lumens all night. Last 5 upc code 10028. Just remove the unit from the stake. Unreal quality and usefulness for the price.

        • Thats all fine and well until little pranksters come by at night and pluck them out the grass.

      34. The sun is the source of life, light, and heat. Through photosynthesis plants grow. Early humans worshipped the sun. Monotheism grew out of the religion of these sun worshippers in Egypt and other places around the world. The chalice of gold used to perform ceremony of communion, as well as the Pope’s robes bear the symbolic image of the sun.

Early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise. The natural clock dictates that human beings rise with the sun.

As Preppers we should be well acquainted with changes in solar activity.
Perhaps Mac could include regular updates, if not daily. Also, the sale of solar telescopes could provide additional income. And perhaps spark a new fad. Healthier than night stargazing. And because the sun is a star, learning about it as a family at picnics or backyard barbecues is an education without the negativity. Just a suggestion. As a solar physicist, you get paid to keep track of solar changes. Not a bad gig. Better than pushing drugs. But, if you insist, double as an M.D.

Not so sure about the wealthy, and lately been questioning the other two as well, especially the wise,
Been thinking all it does is make me tired

          • “To bed, to bed,” said Sleepy Head.

            “Let’s wait awhile,” said Slow.

“Put on the pot,” said Greedy Gut. “We’ll eat before we go.”

      35. In ordinary times, when the lights go out at night- go to bed early. Take a shot of whiskey or Benadryl and enjoy the dark. When the lights go out on a permanent or semipermanent basis, inventory your food and protection and have someone stay up at night.

      36. Personally, I would rather know and inform as many folks as I could this war on the people you cannot taste, feel or smell.

Grid failures likely to continue the next 3 days, not cyber attacks.

We had a mid-sized solar storm event at the time.

No one has a handle on where induced currents will flow and when, but the grid is not hardened well against large low frequency currents in neutrals. You hope a breaker blows before a three phase transformer the size of your garage fries.

Standard circuit breakers depend 120 per second current reversals to extinguish arcing. Low frequency and DC require special, expensive designs not compatible with 10 oz ‘pound’ bags of coffee 😐

      39. Hello,
Not sure about the outage in NY but the California two were possibly caused by a geomagnetic storm that hit there yesterday. Another larger one on the way.
I mentioned this before here a few times. Watch the 2-3 minute video every day on suspicious observers dot org. The o in observers is a zero “0”. This guy is brilliant. They made a disaster prediction app as solar activity such as flares, filaments and coronal hopes cause earthquakes. He has years of data to back it up.
Also Jacknife I replied to your post above on solar PV.
        Solar Guy out…

      40. Any suggestions on if there is a way to power a cell phone, kindle, or other very small appliance with solar or hand crank? I’m thinking a small unit with solar power strip to take in sun by day that also has a plug in, instead of plugging the charger into the wall… Or something that has a hand crank that gains energy, that also has a plug in so the energy can be given out?

      41. Any trying to convince me that power outages in 3 major cities on separate coasts is nothing but a coincidence is wasting their breath & my time.

Either a drill or a test run. That simple.

      42. Fellow Americans,
For various reasons I am now out of the US and intend to stay out.
However, I builit a very nice survivalist home at 8000′ in the Rocky Moutains. It is totally self sufficient. Has back up generators, solar panels, its own deep well and 2000 gal tank in the mountain. Has a cellar for putting away food. Has a 3 bdrm home and 1 bdrm apartment separate form each other.
It is 1.5 miles from the closes Hwy and 2 miles from the closest neighbor. It is fenced with 9′ 11 gauge chainlink steel fence. It sits on the side of a mountain overlooking a valley. There are deer, elk, wolf, bear, bobcat, mountain lion and other wildlife. Closest Walmart is about 50 miles away. It is indeed a beautiful place 8.3 acres, built as a survival retreat. I am selling very reasonable because I no longer live in the US.

      43. Everyone here knows our grid is vulnerable to STOP for MANY reasons.

Therefore, EACH American (of course including everyone here!) would be wise to everyday carry [EDC] a small AA or AAA powered flashlight: the Fenix E01, the Lumintop Tool, or the Nitecore Tube which is rechargeable. Each should be available on Amazon.

Make sure you have more than several high quality L.E.D. flashlights (check out NEBO’s Little Lucy and Little Larry) as well as packs and packs and packs of AA and AAA batteries.

I’m expecting and preparing for the evil powers that be to cut off our power.

        Are you?

      44. I live in the Fingerlake section of upstate N.Y. 2nd week in March we had a wind warning, gusts up to 81 mph. That was on a Monday, starting around 9:45 a.m. My home lost power for 5 hours, 2:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Daylight lasted until 5 p.m. The immediate next day, our area had a snow storm warning. Lots of snow, I forgot the final tally, and more wind. We were in a 3 day and night State of Emergency, no unnecessary driving on the roads , especially the big 18 Wheeler rigs. Day 4 was more of the same, stay home. Gov. Cuomo was pissed off at RGE for’being unprepared ‘ for this type of weather emergency situation. I holed up in my 1122 sq.ft. townhouse /condo, glad I replaced all my 1989 windows and had them tinted with a quality lum ar tinting. I was able to stay warm , safe, comfortable, sleep and eat without any problems or going stir crazy. – It was a good drill. I don’t live on acres of land with pristine water and wildlife, but it was doable. Single female, no kids or pets. Maybe someday I would move to a better bug out location, but I hate the cold and snow.

      45. I have lots of high quality LED flashlights, keep a small one in my purse, many packs of AA and AAA batteries, food, water, the preps you all have, and I have learned much from reading this site. Thank you.

        • UNY, you are MY kind of Prepper!!!

(I’d ask you to marry me but I’d get us in big time trouble, hehe.)

          🙂

      46. Hard to believe solar storms only affected LA and San Fran and nothing in between!

      47. Trump Administration Begins Quiet Preparations For Government Shutdown

“Until this week, shutdown threat seemed very low as Congressional GOP leadership, appropriators hammered out spending agreements, were on same page as Democrats. That went sideways when White House pushed more confrontational approach on ObamaCare, immigration.”

“With the Senate reconvening on Monday and the House of Representatives on Tuesday after a two-week recess, lawmakers will have only four days to pass a spending package to keep the government open beyond April 28, when funding expires for numerous federal programs.”

“…the government will shut down midnight on April 28 if Congress cannot agree on a spending bill. As reported over the past week, the measure hit various snags over Trump’s demands to include funding for Trump’s border wall and a debate over money for an ObamaCare insurer subsidy program, both programs which virtually assure the spending bill will not pass.

As a result, the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) has begun to coordinate with government agencies to plan for a possible shutdown. “While we do not expect a lapse, prudence and common sense require routine assessments will be made,” OMB Director Mick Mulvaney said in a statement.”
