The ‘Bloody Nose’ Strategy: The US Weighs Military Action Against North Korea

Amid reports that some of the iciness between North Korea and the United States could be thawing comes another that states the United States is weighing military action against North Korea. The strategy, known as the “bloody nose,” would attempt to strike the rogue regime without starting an all-out war.

According to The Wall Street Journal, as just one sign of how fraught the situation remains, simply consider this: U.S. officials are quietly debating whether it’s possible to mount a limited military strike against North Korean sites without igniting an all-out war on the Korean Peninsula. This action is called the “bloody nose” strategy. Meaning the US doesn’t want to destroy North Korea, but they do want to bust the country up a little.

For example, instead of reacting to all of North Korea’s missile tests with words only, the US would react to some nuclear or missile test with a targeted strike against a North Korean facility to “bloody Pyongyang’s nose” and illustrate the high price the regime could pay for its behavior. The hope would be to make that point without inciting a full-bore reprisal by North Korea.

Of course, that’s a very risky maneuver especially considering the rhetoric on both sides. Should the US decide to attempt a bloody nose attack, it would be done with a desire to simply humiliate, but only slightly damage the North Korean regime.

Even with concerns over a war hanging in the air, North Korea said it will send a delegation to the Winter Olympics this year in Pyeongchang, South Korea. North Korea said during talks with the South it would send a group of athletes, high-ranking officials, and a cheer squad to the Winter Games.

Trump last weekend said he would like to see North Korea get involved in the upcoming Winter Olympics.

Or THE ENDING OF DOCTOR STRANGE LOVE

WE WILL MEET AGAIN DO NOT KNOW WHERE DO NOT KNOW WHEN.

After the Olympic games N. Korea could pull something to create a false flag here. Will we get are butt whipped again like in ’53 Korean war when Truman surrendered by firing Gen. MacArthur? With the sissified military in charge today, no doubt.

      • Kevin2 says:

MacArthur was nuts. As best I can see highly overrated too. He dropped the ball in the Philippines having done nothing with a day of warning thus losing his air power in the process. Trapping your troops on the Bataan peninsula instead of dispersing them; bad move. The Army’s overall performance in the pacific was lagging. Creating the modern Japanese government was his crowning achievement. Inchon was the best plan of his military career. Going into NK was idiotic. Dispelling China as a military force with capacity naive. Advocating the use of nuclear weapons to compensate for his lack of judgement in facing “The bottomless pit of Asian manpower” was madness.

        • The Deplorable Braveheart says:

Kevin2, you’re absolutely right about MacArthur. He was the same scumbag along with Dwight D. ‘Ike’ Eisenhower, George Patton, and Omar N. Bradley who were responsible for the debacle with the “Bonus Army” in DC in 1932 when they made a criminal and unjustifiable attack on those WW1 veterans and their families who were only asking the govt. for some help due to the Great Depression. I lost a relative in that attack. I had another relative who was stationed in the Phillipines under MacArthur’s command when the Japanese attacked. He and some other troops at the time of the surrender simply gathered up all the weapons, ammo, and other supplies they could get into a truck and went into the jungle to carry out guerrilla warfare against the Japs. One day he and his unit attacked a Japanese patrol camped near a jungle trail and killed them all in a fierce firefight. He took a pair of binoculars from the dead Japanese commander of that patrol which I have sitting in a bookshelf at home. He gave them to me on his deathbed back in 2010. They’re in an all metal case. No one makes binoculars in metal cases anymore. They are Nikko, made in Tokyo, and have the number 570885 on them, probably a serial number. They are 7x49mm and still work like a charm to this day. After WW2, Nikko became NIKON. Those optics are one of my most prized possessions and I won’t give them up for anything. I have 2 pairs of newer Nikon optics that I swear by. Anyway back to MacArthur, he just had to learn the hard way about the folly of taking on the Chinese and their endless supply of manpower. The Chinese could make good on their losses. It was the exact opposite for us.

6 You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. 7 Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. 8 All these are the beginning of birth pains. 9 “Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. 10 At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, 11 and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. 12 Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, 13 but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved. 14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.
      -Matthew 24: 6-14

      Couldn’t seem more relevant.

Laura Ann, I’d still prefer for them to back off NK but I’m not holding my breath. It’s amazing that NK and SK are even talking. The neocons need to back off.

    5. Sgt. Dale says:

Nothing is going to happen with N.K. The PTB just needs us to fear or hate some one.

One day they will play this game and it will back fire. I just think it is today.
      Sgt.

      • Heartless says:

Sgt. & TBH – boy, you guys are so very right. In the book ‘1984’ – what used to be required reading in school – the need for a ‘forever war’, an image of an enemy leader was part of the system of control. All institutions from government, religion, education, financial use the tools of manipulation that is ingrained, embedded, a part of human make-up to control. From fear to the controlling of those things basic to human life. Reproduction and all matters of gender relationships, food – how, what, when we eat and drink, clothing and the assignment to morality or social levels/castes, …. you name it. All things we need to exist are attempted to be controlled; if not, are.

    6. the blame-e says:

This should be real interesting. I can just see the U.S. winding up to give Kim a black eye with their fist, and hit China squarely in the nose on the pull back.

China will wipe its bloody nose off on U.S. Treasuries.

A “black eye?” What could possibly go wrong?

    7. Kevin2 says:

This strategy looks like a replay of Rolling Thunder.

    8. Richard Hampshire says:

Why don’t we just make a “ connect the dots” drawing on some open field near Pyongyang, perhaps a bullseye or something. In order to demonstrate our weaponry accuracy. Might be sobering for them.

    9. Anonymous says:

Lightning does not strike halfway. If we have to commit, go for the knockout.
Blubber boy might survive a bloody nose. Then what?

    10. Dave says:

Here’s an idea. Let the leaders fight it out. After a few iterations there will be peace in the world.

But until then by all means kill a few million for one guy. NAZIs!

    11. ShannobAnonymous says:

I couldn’t agree more sir. These scriptures to come to mind with each passing day.

    12. swinging richard says:

Makes you wonder why the world puts up with KJU.

    13. Anonymous says:

When blubber boy recovers from his bloody nose, we get EMP’d.
The brilliant planners at the pentagram, I mean Pentagon, need to scrap that dumb plan.

    14. Frank Thoughts says:

This would be a failed approach for some simple reasons. The first is that NK has been preparing for this conflict since the 1950s. A ‘bloody nose’ strike would only signal to them it is ‘game on’ and they would then move to strike back from their pre-prepared positions.

NK would move the majority of their population underground and then would strike back through various means. This would hand the initiative to NK. They would then dictate the terms of the conflict because they would be able to make sure a heavy price is paid for the attack. The West has more to lose than NK does.

Much better to strike a deal with them and set up a gambling and resort haven in Pyongyang with a giant Trump hotel.

    15. littlerunninghorse says:

A surgical strike is risky if you miss. There are chemicals that are absorbed through the skin in low doses and over time kill the target and are untraceable Just get access to the AC system and its all over. Such are used by organized crime now days Also by CIA etc North Korea is ideal for a long drawn out war like before

    16. LowCountry Buckeye says:

Sometime I wonder if articles like this are used as “trial balloons” by the Gov’t to gauge the populace’s tolerance for war or an attack on NK. Bet your BOG someone in a federal agency is reading these responses and taking notes.

    17. Captn.Jack says:

The hacking war on ships continues,Chinese owned cargo ship sails across the bow of an Iranian tanker hundreds of miles off shore and his rammed by the tanker which blew up killing all 31 crew members aboard her. Tanker is still burning, report says it could burn for a month or sink.Report can be found at gCaptain. Wonder who is doing this.
