Surgical Robot Botches Surgery, Kills Man on Operating Table While Doctors Sipped Lattes

In the name of scientific “progress,” Newcastle’s Freeman Hospital in the United Kingdom recently tried to pioneer the use of a surgical robot that it tasked with repairing a patient’s damaged heart valve, only to have the machine go completely bonkers and ultimately kill the man on the operating table.

According to reports, this first-time-use robot not only physically assaulted a living medic while attempting to conduct its programmed surgery, but also implanted stitches into the patient’s heart in a manner that physicians present during the fiasco described as not being in “an organised fashion.”

A situation that can only be described as total chaos, with human surgeons, doctors, and nurses having to scream at each other in order to overcome the “tinny” sound coming from the robot as they were trying to control it, the attempted surgery ended up being nothing short of a complete failure. And in the end, retired music teacher and conductor, Stephen Pettitt, the guinea pig patient in this medical experiment, ultimately lost his life.

Lead surgeon admits that he was ill-prepared to operate the surgical robot, having skipped multiple training sessions

During a hearing that followed this catastrophe, lead surgeon Sukumaran Nair admitted that he lacked proper experience in controlling and using the surgical robot, stating that he was “running before he could walk.” In other words, it was truly a case of medical negligence and malpractice on steroids.

As later revealed by the U.K.’s Daily Mail Online, Nair not only missed a critical training session in Paris that would have taught him how to properly use the surgical robot, but he also wasn’t present for another training sessions that later took place at his own hospital, claiming that he was busy with another surgery at the time.

While supervisory experts were supposed to have been present for this surgery-gone-wrong, which should have prevented this type of nightmare from ever even occurring, they, too, were reportedly missing when things started to hit the fan.

According to Thasee Pillay, Nair’s assisting surgeon, these overseeing proctors had apparently “gone to the coffee shop” right in the middle of the procedure, which prevented them from being able to take the reins once it became clear that Pettitt’s life was at risk from the surgical robot going rogue. Pillay also stated that he had no idea that these overseers were planning on not staying throughout the entirety of the surgery.

“I had no idea of their timescale and that they were not staying for the duration,” he’s quoted as saying. “The proctors leaving was a crucial moment. The loss of that vital assistance was a major blow at a critical time.”

Overseeing proctors were sipping lattes while surgical robot punctured patient’s aortic septum, splashing blood all over robot camera

At one point during the botched surgery, the surgical robot actually punctured Pettitt’s intra aortic septum, resulting in so much blood being splattered on its camera that doctors could no longer see what the robot was doing.

Nair stated during the follow-up hearing that he couldn’t effectively communicate with Pillay via the robot’s microphone system as this was happening because the sound was largely inaudible.

“We were not far apart, but Mr. Nair’s voice comes through a microphone and it is tinny,” he stated. “The acoustics were not very good.”

“There were times when I raised my voice. One was when the sutures were not being placed in an organised fashion and were criss-crossed.”

After the surgical robot improperly installed the stitches, they had to be removed and replaced by the real-life doctors who were still present, extending the surgical time and further putting Pettitt’s life at risk.

Nair later admitted that he never even informed Pettitt that there was an increased risk of complications or death from this test procedure, which represents the first time that a surgical robot has ever been used to try to perform a mitral valve repair.

Socialized medicine at its finest, but the Dems want this for everyone in America.

  2. Anonymous says:

    Progress is not without casualties.

    Particularly in medicine.

Robot surgeons are a must if we are to contain future health care costs at all, it isn’t the individual results that count, it’s the overall outcomes vs cost that does.

  3. Stuart says:

Behold the beauty of the National Health Scheme and third-world surgeons.

  4. Deplorable Neal Jensen says:

What is staggering is the arrogance of the doctors…

Their latte were more important than the surgery? Where is the FOCUS and SERIOUSNESS of the situation..instead you callousness and pure mode for profit ease that the patient lives matter so little when the TRUST they have in these “professionals” is so sorely misplaced….

ONE THING THESE DOCTORS CANNOT FIX….THEY CANNOT BRING SOME ONE BACK FROM THE DEAD WHEN THE F* UP!!!

DNJ, damn good points. This article literally blew me away. It’s just one more example of what I’ve always said about robots; that the experiment with robots is doomed to failure. Someone definitely has grounds for a wrongful death lawsuit.

    sinecure (sīˈnĭ-kyo͝orˌ, sĭnˈĭ-)►

    n.
A position or office that requires little or no work but provides a salary.
    n.
Archaic An ecclesiastical benefice not attached to the spiritual duties of a parish.

Whatever supposed, academic rigors you have put the applicant through, however fairly you believe that the fake doctor was graded, I think, these kinds of jobs were expected to be turnkey — not a meritocracy. It wouldn’t matter how many pieces of paper and gold stars were on the wall.

“Nair (name of a Hindu caste) later admitted that he never even informed…”

This would be in the sheets of paper, traditionally attached to the foot of the hospital bed.

After insurance, have Nair and killbot generated more in subsidies or liabilities, for your hospital business?

Robot under the same name was apparently developed for the Def Dept, but expo’ed in China.

Hasn’t anybody ever heard of an Estop button? It is a standard everywhere in industry.

  9. Kevin2 says:

Remove the AMAs strangle hold on Medical School and you can increase the supply of physicians and with it lower the cost. US students unable to gain admittance to a US Medical School often receive their education overseas. They come back to the US, pass board certification and practice. My wife’s OBGYN went to Medical School in Mexico City and couldn’t speak Spanish. He is now the department head.

  10. Your IQ drops when you have heart surgery, and people get Chemo brain (brain damage) from Chemo-therapy.

Be smart. Keep yourself healthy, hydrated, well fed and active. Avoid doctors. They are good for a few things like setting bones or for trauma cases, but for regular care, there are better qualified naturopathic, herbalists, and even acupuncture.

The reason Health Care stinks is because of Rockefellers and Rothschilds who owns the medical schools.

Read Eustace Mullins, “Death By Injection”.

Somebody switched out the program for the procedure of the day for open heart surgery with the movie “Alien.” The robot was just trying desperately trying to get the alien baby out.

“This mission is just too important for me to allow you to jeopardize it.”

    Shit happens.

Besides, the “patient” died in his sleep.

Anonymous, would you feel the same way if you were the ‘necessary’ casualty?

What is the nature of your medical emergency?”

  14. Maranatha says:

Some moron always thinks technology is always the answer. Well human beings are not identical machines. Our anatomy is far more unique with anatomical variations. Sometimes the surgeons call in anatomists due to these variations.

It’s like stem cells. First they started regrowing bone in jaws…and that worked mraculously. Then they regrew a bladder…fine. They grew skin first on a matrix in sheets, then came up with a spray attachment that does a terrific job on burns.

Now they are upset because they were growing kidneys and what happened essentially was the stem cells lacked the guidance of various special triggers that modulate growth. They know very lttle but are thinking they are geniuses when actually they’re macabre Dr. Frankensteins. What happened was spontaneously the stem cells that were suppose to become a whole kidney became wildly out oif control and growing brain and muscle tissue.

Now what no medical consultant as yet has told them is this is a LOT LIKE A TERATOMA! That is a bizarre tumor that sometime is found where stem cells go haywire and you find within a mass of weird tissue like ocular, muscle, skin, bone, teeth, etc growing as cancer.

Imagine the first guinea pig who gets a grown kidney and if it spontaneously turned into a teratoma and kills the patient as it cannot modulate blood pressure through fluid balance. They think they are wise as Yahweh and can be creators…but create not functioning organs but a wild cancerous tumor.

  15. Maranatha says:

So by playing GOD by making organs, they reinvented cancerous teratomas.

    https://www.dailystar.co.uk/news/latest-news/742972/lab-grown-kidneys-brain-muscle-cells-kidney-disease

This is what a teratoma looks like. A rather famous pathologist told me it made him sick the first time he witnessed one as it seemed like an inside out version of a twin growing as a tumor inside someone.

Imagine if they transplanted a lab grown organ into your child and it went rogue and the organ turned into cancer.
